On Being Inexperienced
I recently undertook the colossal task of reading through all of Paizo’s rulebooks, starting with the Core. Besides learning some of the more obscure rules and delving into the details of each class, I’ve learned something very important: I don’t know Pathfinder.
If you’ve ever felt stupid trying to figure out the mechanics of a character, gotten overwhelmed balancing an encounter, or felt unsure of your skill a GM, then hey, we have something in common! Let me be clear. I have picked up a colossal amount of information in a short amount of time, but I do not by any means consider myself an expert on Paizo’s game, or any of the systems I’ve played. But here’s the thing: You don’t have to be an expert on the rules to be a good PC or GM.
