You seem really upset over Supergirl tonight.

i am. i am a little upset. because they finally, finally, gave m'gann screentime that actually went somewhere. they finally gave m'gann the time of day, the time to explore her past and people from it, the time to realise that she has j'onn now and he cares about her. they gave her a storyline that was interesting and action packed and to be honest, it was fucking incredible, and then what? they shipped her back to mars. just like that. their only major woc character, literally written off to another planet.

i’m upset because of alex. because honestly what fresh hell? alex danvers loves her little sister more than life itself. she literally broke up with maggie two weeks ago because she was so torn up over not being around for kara, so she chose kara. and now? now what? she’s bailing on kara’s birthday, a day they’ve always celebrated, a day that so clearly means so much to them - kara especially. and i get it, i do, alex needs to have a life outside of kara, her life doesn’t have to just be protecting kara anymore because she has maggie and they’re happy, but for goodness sake this wasn’t just any normal day, it was kara’s earth birthday, and alex would never bail on that, especially not so easily and especially not after seeing how clearly upset it made kara. the danvers sisters are the heart and soul of this show and i’m upset because you wouldn’t know it if you just started with this episode.

i’m upset because this is supergirl. supergirl, not the mon-el show, and yet somehow even in an episode in which he didn’t have as much screen time as usual, he manages to take over. why does kara have to feel guilty about not having feelings for him? why does every guy kara tries to be friends with end up falling for her and she ends up the one suffering most? why, in that last danvers sisters scene, was alex encouraging kara to give him a chance? i’m sorry but alex danvers has never been entering any mon-el fan contests so why, in a scene that was supposed to be about fixing alex’s relationship with kara, did the conversation end up about him? why did kara have to be convinced she maybe might have feelings for him? and for the love of god that last scene, are you kidding me? kara sees him with another woman and gets jealous because oh whoop de do would you look at that she’s magically discovered feelings for him and now he’s with someone else. look at how not fucking surprised i am. i’ve only seen this on Literally Every Show Ever.

i’m upset because i got new scenes with my otp and i can’t enjoy them as much as i usually would because they just don’t feel right. maggie surprising alex with tickets to see a band she’s loved since college? maggie looking so god damn happy as she bounds up like a damn puppy to tell alex they got vip tickets? fucking fantastic, sign me up. maggie looking ridiculously at home in alex’s apartment? incredible. but i can’t enjoy it as much as i want to, because they came at the cost of alex and kara’s relationship and as much as i love sanvers, they’re not the relationship that makes supergirl. alex and kara are.

don’t get me wrong, i liked this ep. it was action packed and white martians are evil but pretty fucking cool and i am LIVING for all the m'gann we got, all the m'gann and j'onn we got. i am living for m'gann fighting as a green martian, and evil alex was fucking incredible (and hella hot) and vasquez finally returned from the cave in the desert, so don’t take this as me spewing hate left, right and centre because there was a lot about this episode that i really liked, i just. i’m a little upset that this show is supposed to be about supergirl and yet she’s being sidelined as a love interest for the token white guy, and all the other characters don’t seem to be winning any favouritism contests with the writers either.

(disclaimer: it’s 3.30am and i’m tired and cranky and i can’t be bothered to reread this so it might not be worded as best as i could possibly do to say what i’m trying to say but i just don’t care anymore pls don’t come at me)

Please remember that Skam was supposed to have 2 more seasons

I see a lot of people disliking that stuff from previous seasons get dragged into this season. But you have to remember that Skam was supposed to have 6 seasons, which means that there would have been 2 more seasons to give us answers.

I don’t think Julie or anyone else working on the show could ever anticipate how much impact this show would have. “Fans” have invaded the school and stalked actors, and the pressure on Julie must have been tremendous. I went to a lecture with one of the producers of the show and she said that not only did Julie write and direct every episode herself, she was also involved with almost every single detail in every episode (every song you hear is chosen by her).

This has been a labor of love for Julie, and I think she would have wanted to give the show 2 more seasons, but I understand why it all became too much for her and everyone else involved and why they felt they had to end it all now.

Ending the show 2 seasons before it was supposed to end, 2 seasons before the story was supposed to end, means they have to give the show’s most important storylines a proper ending - right here and right now. Like give Noorhelm a proper resolution. And give us insight into Even’s back story, and show us how it affects Evak.

Yes, it is Sana’s story, but it is also Julie’s last chance to tell us all about this world she has created and give the entire series a proper ending. Does Sana’s story suffer from this? And would it have been better if we would have gotten 2 more seasons to spread out these answers? Of course, but given how things are, I think Julie is doing the best with what she has been given.

I love Skam. I am grateful that we have been given this wonderful show and this wonderful world. And I am grateful to Julie Andem. (But I still hope we get a movie next year that gives us the russebuss experience.)

Here’s to 4 more episodes and a hopefully magical ending to a magical show. Alt er love.

Why you should watch Rupaul’s Drag Race

1. The winners:

The show didn’t have a white winner till season 4. S E A S O N 4. It has the most diversity.

first season winner: Bebe Zahara Benet -Black, won because fierce af

Second Season Winner: Tyra Sanchez -Black, she won because well, honestly she deserved it in the end..

Third Season Winner: Raja Gemini -Asian, won because honestly, it was either her or Manila, and either one deserved it as much as the other. Raja stood out with her fashion sense, and just how she does drag, fierce af. Raja is amazing and will be one of the best drag queens you ever see.

Fourth Season Winner: Sharon Needles -White, won because she stood out, and was different then most type of drag. She deserved it. Plus fierce af, her style is spooky, and creepy, she isn’t all glamour, but she is her own type of glamour.

Fifth Season Winner: Jinkx Monsoon -White, had narcolepsy and didn’t let it stop her. She improved throughout the season and deserved to win 100% Sweet af person and fierce af.

Sixth Season Winner: Bianca Del Rio -Hispanic, also a different kind of drag, not all fishy, but comedy. She is a comedy queen. and an insult queen, again won because she stood out, and is the funniest winner so far. Underneath all that heavy makeup and insults, she’s the nicest person ever. Fierce af

Seventh Season Winner: Violet Chachki -White, she deserved it 100% The youngest winner yet, and the fiercest. Her fashion level is beyond high, probably up there with Raja tbh. She was a bitch till episode 5 then you saw her change and you just loved her. Fierce af, bdsm goddess. Smallest waist in rupaul drag race herstory.

2. Each season is fucking hilarious, and as the seasons go along, each one gets funnier.

season 2:

Season 3: which we had the heathers vs the boogers drama, which WAS HILARIOUS. all the big drama started in this season. Plus we get the best queens ever. The top 5, not one was white.

Season 4: Oh god this is one of the best seasons honey.

Then we had all stars: where the best of the best and fan favorites come back from past seasons (1-4) where they come back to compete for the crown again, unless you already won.

Season 5; ah, the season of back rolls

Season 6. The 2nd best season.

Season 7:

3. It literally brings families together.

4. The lip-syncs: every challenge, their is always a bottom 2, and one goes home I’m going to post the best lip-syncs

season 3: Manila vs Delta.

Do not take a wig off, UNLESS U HAVE ANOTHER ONE UNDERNEATH IT DARLING.

All stars: Jujubee vs Raven,

most emotional lip sync ever, I wouldn’t want to lipsync against my best fucking friend when we didn’t deserve to be there. like pls no

There was tons more. Just, those are some examples.

5. They don’t call it rupaul’s best friend race for nothing. It’s amazing how everyone is friends after filming or when the show airs, because there is alot of drama, and sometimes that can pull friends apart. they are basically oNE BIG FAMILY.

Why Victor and Yuri don’t need to be “100% canon”

As I watched the last episode of Yuri!!! On Ice I found myself somehow desperately wanting for Victor and Yuri to kiss again. It was almost like a rabid need (I actually recorded my reaction so there’s evidence). The show plays with this on purpose (particularly in the final episode), when it looks like they are going to kiss, but it ends up as a hug or something else.

If you want to put it plainly, Victor and Yuri — despite everything that happened — never get to that “100% canon” status. Some hearts will be broken. Some people will debate that it was just all queer baiting in the end.

But then I realized. We, as a culture in general, are obsessed with confirmation of relationships. Why does something need to be “100% canon?” We have grown into the bad habit to not believe a couple is really a couple unless they say “I love you” to each other (or have sex), as if those are the only words (or actions) that count when you love someone.

Media is over-saturated with “I love you’s,” and we have been conditioned to believe that this is the only way to confirm a romantic relationship.

But we don’t. We don’t need Victor and Yuri to say the words, “I love you.” We know they do.

They say it every single episode.

We see it in how their hearts break.

In the stand-alone wordless frames that say everything without speaking a word.

Their relationship shows every single moment in a traditional romance, without actually saying it verbatim.

First kiss.

Sleeping together.

Natural PDAs.

Getting engaged.

Yuri!!! On Ice doesn’t need Victor and Yuri to say “I love you.” We know.

Anyone can say the words “I love you.” Say it so much that they become habitual and empty. We grow into the belief that just saying the words makes everything perfect when it sometimes doesn’t.

More media should follow Yuri!!! On Ice’s example. To create a beautiful, meaningful, and heartfelt relationship without the need of the words “I love you.” Because in the end, love is expressed in the things we do, not the things we say.

Victor and Yuri love each other and no matter how you want to label it, it’s a fact no one can deny.

So what are Dean and Cas fighting about (again)?

What an… interesting promo CW chose to put out. Nothing about the plot, no action, past!Castiel, nothing. Just a snapshot of the cold war between Dean and Cas and poor Sammy stuck in the middle as usual.

Now, if I remember correctly, the last time Dean and Cas had a fight like this complete with silent treatment (and in front of Sam again, to boot) was 8x22. To recap quickly,

Dean tells Cas that he needs him in the crypt and Cas didn’t even acknowledge it before flitting off. He turns up again 8x21, asking for help. Naturally Dean is resentful, and the ‘You didn’t trust me?’ shows how deep Cas had hurt him. Look at it from Dean’s point of view- Cas never seems to trust him- with the tablet, during the entire deal with Crowley fiasco in season 6.

Dean’s whole personality revolves around taking care of the people he loves. He deals with severe abandonment issues- with Sam, with his dad, now with Cas. All of them leaving him behind. Dean has no doubt in his mind that Cas cares, that Cas will do anything for them, but Dean’s never been allowed to reciprocate. Cas simply won’t confide in him till it’s too late.

If Cas had stuck around the bunker, Dean would probably have caved. But he isn’t there (and I’m sure Cas never bothered to explain why he had left the bunker), thereby confirming Dean’s belief that Cas doesn’t need him.

Unfortunately, the angels fall, and when Cas does need him for the very first time, Dean’s forced to kick him out. And he’s clearly torn up with the guilt, considering he apologizes twice for the act, one time when Sam’s getting his head torn open, showing how much he’s been agonizing over it. But it didn’t end there- Dean gets the mark, kicks the shit out of Cas.

Cas says Yes to fucking Lucifer rather than fight along with Dean and Sam. And Dean doesn’t know what to say or feel, because he half feels he hasn’t really been there for Cas, and contrarily, the resentment that Cas doesn’t open up still exists.

After Sam’s rescued in 12x02, Dean lets himself hope again. His mom’s back, Sam’s physically alright, Cas is still there. He makes that elaborate breakfast, hoping he can actually get some time with the family again… Only Cas doesn’t even bother to stay for coffee. And leaves again, refusing Dean’s help quite brusquely.

And now, again. Cas makes a lovely dramatic speech about how much he cares in 12x09. Dean lets himself hope again…

And what I’m guessing is- Cas tries to leave on his own again to fix this. But Dean’s absolutely had it this time and they probably have an argument, Cas wanting to protecting Dean and Sam, Dean chafing at the lack of trust (again). I mean, look at this (gif credit to @codestielckles)-

Sam can’t bear the tension and wants to drown it out. Dean says NO. Dean, the one who tends to avoid difficult conversations by turning up the music. For the first time, Dean wants to talk.. and Cas is not budging. Until he does for Sam. Which leads to this-

Cas will respond to Sam, but not him. Of course he’s pissed.

Poor Sam though, he needs a dog and a vacation after dealing with this shit.

Hi, I'm starting a webcomic and my MC is black, she can reverse time. One day she comes to school with afro puffs and her white "friends" tell her that her hair is ugly so she rewinds time, change her hair, and tries to avoid wearing her natural hair out until the end of the story. My goal is to show that she does everything to be accepted by the girls and is insecure, but I don't want this to be off-putting. I'm black and I have dealt with this problem before and that's why I want to do it.

Handling Off-Putting Racism (From within the Group)

There’s little avoiding this not being off-putting. I’m not talking about the way the Black character’s reaction is written. If one had the chance to completely avoid ridicule from peers, most would take it, plus school makes it that much harder to stand up for oneself to avoid making ripples and being isolated.

The racism she faces that makes her insecure enough to need to change her hair (and time itself) is the unpleasant, sad, and frustrating thing about this, and it’s as off-putting as many other racial micro-aggression might be. That doesn’t make it off-limits. Certain subject matter gets uncomfortable, but that just makes it real.

As a Black writer you’re equipped to write this perspective, especially as you’ve had the lived experience you’re touching on (and I have too, in middle school, probably not so coincidentally).

I can’t tell you how to write the experience. I can’t even suggest that you have her overcome the insecurity that makes her submit to these girls’ opinions about her Blackness (not everyone grows to break free, though you saying she goes natural at the end of the story gives me hope!). I do suggest that the narrative confront the problems with the girls’ behavior and it isn’t normalized or accepted. Even if the MC’s perspective brushes it under the rug, not everyone else would. More on that, with links to several other similar topics, included in the post: On Writing Racist Characters.

In short, the situation is off-putting by nature of the micro-aggression, but in my opinion, it’s still okay to confront, especially as a Black author with the experience to add nuance to the story’s subject matter.

Google made me proud today.

A little while ago, I was on a mission to show a friend of mine the best doggo in the world, Chica. I began to type ‘mark fischbach chica’ and as Google tried to read my mind, as it always does, I froze and tears welled in my eyes.

‘mark fischbach changing the world’ now at this moment I was mid sentence on Skype so my friend started to panic slightly because of my sudden pause. When I finally found my voice again I explained what had caught me off guard. To which my friend replied, “Why did that hit you so hard? The guy does charity work right?”

Years of watching Mark, all the skits, all the let’s plays, all the goofy stuff that falls in the mix as well, even if I didn’t necessarily like the video or find it particularly funny I always watched from beginning to end to show my support for his channel. Not because I was staring at his face [though he his a looker], not because of being his biggest fan [though I’m probably up there], not even just to have background noise [I like to actually watch the videos]. I would watch them in their entirety because maybe the money made from that time watching that particular video would enable him to do his next big event that would save people’s live by giving them the hope they had lost, fund another charity so its research could go on and maybe even find a cure, all of that and more.

Today I watched his PAX East panel, not in person sadly but live on twitch. At the end when it appeared he was going to break down and cry [all while I’m pointing and screaming at my TV for him not to cry over and over again because though I know he’s crying because his heart is full of joy and pride, it makes me tear up too, dang you Mark] His ending remarks both filled me with happiness and sadness.

Mind you now in the Skype call, showing pictures of Chica has fallen to the back burner [sorry Chica-bica] and I had began rambling about all the different charities Mark has helped raise awareness and money for, how his channel has become this massive community full of love and kindness and were only able to what it is today because no matter what video you click on of Marks, be it his oldest videos or one he posted a few hours ago, behind those dick jokes, infectious laugh, screams, two-finger defense strategies, and everything else; he’s still just a man who wants to change the world.

My exact words before the Skype call was ended with my friend saying I’m gonna go check out this guys videos [got you a new subscriber Mark! Woo!] were, “I froze when I saw that come up on the auto-complete search results because it’s amazing. I froze and damn near started crying my ****in eyes out because this man who one a daily basis calls himself a goof and acts exactly like a goof, is changing the world. Whether it’s meeting a sick child who is a fan of his videos, doing a live stream, going out and meeting his fans and doing skits that include them, answering questions at conventions, or just making people like me be able to smile from the comfort of my home and give me the strength to fight impulses that would be damaging. He preaches over and over again that to him we’re the heroes, hell he put it on the sleeves on his charity shirts, he’s too humble to admit that he is the hero or that he’s made his friends: Bob, Wade, Jack, Ethan, Tyler, etc. heroes as well for pushing for the goals with him and all coming up together with new and amazing ways to both entertain and improve the day to day life of everyone who will watch and listen.”

I sat here for a few minutes minutes, got my screen cap cut down to size, made sure it wasn’t too illegible. As I began to type my post, my Skype rang, it was my same fiend from before. I imagine the time lapse between end of call to now beginning of new call was maybe a total of two hours give or take.

I answer and all I hear are tears. I am instantly in [who do I need to kill] mode. After they calm down they explain they just searched for emotional play through’s. My mind immediately goes to ‘Presentable Liberty’, ‘That Dragon Cancer’, ‘Anxiety Attack’, among many others I could think of that could be labeled emotional.

After an awkward silence they asked, “What possessed this man, who has known such great tragedy and loss in his life to do everything he does for others.” I smiled, we were on video chat so they saw and then looked at me with confusion. “The answer to that one is easy, I think he’d agree. He’s seen difficulty, just like all of us, and THAT is why he continues to do it. He strives to make the burdens of this world less heavy on our shoulders, he raises money so that the sick can be mended and go home and play with their friends, he makes personal vlogs looking into each and every one of his fan’s eyes, tears brimming with whatever emotion he’s conveying so we all know he is there for us, he is proud of us, and he will never stop working to change the world.”

My friend nodded at me then told me they were gonna go rest on it, maybe watch a few more videos before laying down. I just made a terrible joke about FNAF [I will spare you the joke, trust me, it was bad] then the Skype call ended once more.

Now I’m left here with these thoughts in my head. Earlier I mentioned the PAX East stream, one of the things Mark said before leaving the stage was, “When we’re gone, you’re next.” Now this turned into jokes being made and all that because that’s what Mark and his friends do, they cut up and have a good time. It was the way he said it that stuck with me. Like he’s prepping all of us to take this bright, burning torch when he decides to step away from youtube as a career and that brings him almost to a blubbering mess because of all we’ve shown him we can do so far, I think he believes that whenever that time is. Whether it be a year from now, two years from now, or more; he knows that the community that he never dreamed he would have and be part of will continue to do what we do best, because we learned it from the one and only Markiplier.

Change the world.

The nephilim and Team Free Will: future and determinism

This is a post that started out as an analysis of the scenes where Kelly’s and Cas’ eyes glow golden with the power of the nephilim, and ended up a long longer than I planned. My argument is that the nephilim is the new agent of determinism in the show, and somehow I accidentally ended up drawing the conclusion of romantic Destiel. I never do it on purpose but it always happens. (It’s not a post about Destiel. It’s a post about free will and destiny. Go figure.)

Please read this, it took hours to write and I should be writing my thesis instead.

The starting point of my reflection is: is the nephilim exercising a form of mind control over Kelly and Cas? My answer is yes and no. I mean - in the substance, it’s something like that. But I think it comes from a different place than ‘mind control’, and has larger implications in the context of the show.

I’m sorry… but I will never understand how Zutara is deemed unhealthy, dark, and abusive. I refuse to believe that relationship would’ve been anything other than wholly understanding and loving - and I’ll show you why… with pictures.

At the end of season two and the beginning of season three, we see Zuko struggling with his view of right and wrong. He’s betrayed his uncle, he’s going home, he’s struggling with a whirlwind of emotion and when given the opportunity to open up, by a girl who’s known him his entire life, he readily takes it.

Mai: Aren’t you cold?
Zuko: I’ve got a lot of my mind. It’s been so long… over three years since I was home. I wonder what’s changed. I wonder how I’ve changed.

In any functioning, healthy relationship, you would expect this flood of feelings and thoughts to met with sympathy or input or at the very least… a hand on the shoulder and a comforting hug. Instead, Zuko is basically told to shut up, to put up, to push the feelings away because they aren’t important enough to be bothered with.

Now, you might come at me and say well, Mai really didn’t ask. She just wanted to know if he was cold and that’s fine. I give you this:

Under Ba Sing Se, Zuko interacts with Katara in a calm environment. This is the first time they are together and not fighting and they have a chance to talk. Katara, obviously, takes the opportunity to rant and rage about how terrible Zuko is and he quietly sits there and takes it. He only protests, peacefully stating that she knows nothing about him, when she’s finished her wild stream of thoughts, to which Katara responds as such:

Katara: I don’t? How dare you! You have no idea what this war has put me through. Me personally! The Fire Nation took my mother away from me.
Zuko, sympathetically: I’m sorry. That’s something we have in common.

Now, Zuko could’ve simply said I’m sorry. He could’ve stopped there. But he slips and lets a bit of information about his past hang in the air. In turn, this angry, hurt waterbender - who is raw and emotional after opening up to the enemy - could’ve easily told him to shut up. She would have every right to. He’s hurt her. He’s scared her and chased her all over the world.

But she doesn’t. She’s known him for five minutes, but she quickly turns around and let’s Zuko open up about his life, his scar, the things that bother him. And then she offers to fix one of the things that weighs him down!!!

And these are quiet, peaceful moments between these pairs. There’s no fighting or drama. If you really want to see how these relationships function, let’s look at periods when both parties are upset with the other.

For example, let’s assess two intense interactions between Mai and Zuko in the Boiling Rock and then, Katara and Zuko in the Southern Raiders.

In the Boiling Rock, Mai is angry with Zuko for leaving the Fire Nation, essentially dumping her in the process, and only explaining his motivations and plans through a letter. Now, I get why she says she deserved a face-to-face conversation, but why does she think she deserves one? She shut him down when he last expressed his conflicting decisions, so why does she think he would even feel comfortable explaining his choice to commit treason?

And look at his body language - they’re together again and there is a chance for her to let him express himself in the way she wants, but she’s belittled him. He’s made to feel small and worthless by someone he thought he could trust (hmmm sound familiar *cough* Ozai *cough*). Then that’s it. She decides whatever he’s said is enough and she’s through and she throws the letter at him, promptly storming out.

Then we have the Southern Raiders… Katara feeling the bitter sting of Zuko’s betrayal in Ba Sing Se is given a chance to get an explanation from him.

First of all, Zuko seeks her out. It’s obvious she’s pissed, but they are facing each other, having an eye-level conversation, and Zuko’s expression holds remorse and an earnest drive to fix the problem. Even in the intense, heated moment, Katara shows him a certain amount of respect. She takes him head on. She doesn’t belittle or negate him. She gives valid reasons why she’s upset and he listens and tries to fix it.

In a way, he does fix it - the best he can. Katara is heartbroken (much more than Mai is) and she let’s him take her on this journey with an unknown ending and trusts him with her decision - whatever it is. He doesn’t pressure her, he doesn’t push his thoughts or feelings on her. He let’s her be… until Katara decides she’s through and she forgives him. SHE FORGIVES HIM. She forgives the face of the enemy, the son of the man that terrorized her home, the countryman of the person who killed her mother. She forgives him and it’s like this fucking weight lifts off both of them.

Sure… you can come at me and say Oh, well Mai saved Zuko at the Boiling Rock… Okay fine, I’ll give you that.  It didn’t change anything between them. She came right back at the end of the series and threatened him again. Is she still so incapable of understanding his motivations? Can she not see what his decision brought about? Look around you, Mai! Zuko sacrificed everything and, in turn, saved the world. He wasn’t purposefully being hurtful and vindictive. He wasn’t trying to disappoint you. He was trying to bring about a better future and he fucking succeeded.

And I just want to post that image side-by-side with the image of Katara kneeling over him post-lightning scene. Katara watches Zuko - the future Fire Lord, the world’s last chance for a decent ruler in the Fire Nation - throw his life by the way side in favor of hers. He literally tossed aside everything they’d worked for and hoped for - he almost gave it all up to save her life.

Mai - who’s relationship was sacrificed for the greater good - threatens Zuko. Katara - who’s last year has been spent training and building up to this final battle - doesn’t. She understands him. She gets him. She’s grateful for him.

From their very first, real interaction, Katara gets Zuko. She takes the time to learn about him and he takes the time to learn about her. It’s healthy. It’s conducive. And even if you don’t think it’s romantic, it’s certainly some next level friend shit.

If anything, it’s the first relationship shown here that’s unhealthy.

thoughts on ursula, representation, and fat positivity

the other day i was thinking about how few positive fat characters exist in fiction, particularly fat female characters. as a young fat girl growing up in the late 90s/early 00s, the only fat women i can remember having as role models in media were roseanne barr, queen latifah (particularly her role in chicago), and ursula from the little mermaid.

it’s ursula in particular i wanna talk about here, and why she means to much to me.

it’s true that fat characters, particularly fat women, are always villains/antagonists/negative characters. in this, ursula unfortunately follows suit. she’s a villain, she’s a bad person, she’s evil.

but she’s not evil BECAUSE she’s fat. and there are none (that i can remember) of the usual negative fat stereotypes: eats constantly, lazy, greedy, stupid, dirty/messy, desexualised. on the contrary, she’s active, and ambitious, uses sexual innuendo and is aware of sexual appeal (ie, telling ariel to use ~body language~ while moving suggestively). she’s loud and unapologetic, and never tries to shrink herself, she has an Iconic Disney Villain Song.

it only just occurred to me the other day another level to her that i feel explains further why i was so attached to her (in addition to her being a villain; i have always been attached to fictional villains, esp female villains). there’s a line in “poor unfortunate souls”: “…this one longing to be thinner, that one wants to get the girl, and do i help them? yes indeed.” this shows that ursula has the power to make herself thinner, and she doesn’t. she could make herself thin if she wanted to, and she chooses to be fat anyway.

she does have a thin, stereotypically pretty alter ego, vanessa, but being vanessa isn’t her goal. being vanessa is just a means to an end. she uses the vanessa character just to fuck with ariel.

so we’re shown that ursula 1) has the power to actually make herself thinner, and 2) has the power to appear and live as a thin woman for her life. she doesn’t do either.

the idea that a fat woman can live her life as she is, and not have to change into a thin women even if she could, is really really powerful messaging, especially for a young fat girl being programmed to hate herself and change herself into a thin person at all costs.

fat positive representation matters.

Tharja Rant

Okay, I see a lot of hate for Tharja (Some aimed directly at me) and I feel a need to explain why I like her and shes one of my favourite characters

I’ll start off with the most glaring issue, the stalking, Im not going to defend her stalking, but as its stated in her support with Gaius, she has the power to completely make Robin fall in love with her, but she chooses not out of respect and faith that if Robin was to love her, it would have to be legit romance, she would rather be alone than to actually force him to love her. Which is why I find it really cute when Robin does realise she actually cares for him and how shes a kinder person than what she first appears to be.

In many of her supports she shows that shes worried about how people think of her, about how she thinks some people thinks she will betray them, she doesn’t think people would actually want to just be friends with her so she shuts herself out, but slowly opens up to those she cares about, she goes out of her way to perform curses and hexes in order to help others out, including letting a ghost control her body which could even kill her in order for Gregor to talk to his brother

She has a strange desire to hide that shes done something nice for other people, even to request the people who knows to not tell others, and with her support with Virion clicks on that Tharja used him but only to assist others, to cook for the army and to build a bridge for children to use to cross a river.

Now about how shes dressed, and how shes a “Slut”, this is just what Dark Mages wear, its never really explained as to why, but Tharja doesn’t seem to mind, she states she doesn’t care all to much about appearances or sexual appeal to Vaike when he states that Robin has a hot body. And during the Summer Scramble she declares how she doesnt think anyone would like her body saying “Nobody would want to see ME in this” when putting on her swimsuit, and how shes always holding a tome to her chest to cover her boobs. I dont really see how this is her being a “slut”

And now for one of the things that bother me the most, people who say Tharja is abusive to Noire, and I want to point out people who say they Hate Tharja because shes a stalker yet they “Love Noire”, its clear that these people are just using Noire as tool to voice their hate for Tharja and that they dont know anything about Noire, since Noire herself has a stalker like crush.

Its stated, multiple times that Tharja loves Noire, and how protective she is of her, she will murder and actually did die to save her. She sees amazing potential in Noire when it comes to curses but she refuses to teach her that because they’res a chance that it could backfire and hurt Noire, as stated earlier with Gregor.

In The Future Past DLC, Tharja makes a joke to Noire that she could have been resurrected from the dead, Noire is so happy to she her mother and she begs to never lose her mother again, Tharja then feels guilty about a joke that struck the wrong cord, apologises to her and informs her that shes not her mother but from a different world, she doesnt have a lot of time but wants to make sure that anyone who attempted to cause harm to her suffers, Noire starts crying tears of joy and Tharja doesnt understand how to deal with that and announces that shes going to start fighting to defend Noire, Noire says “This is just like old times”, which is saying that shes always been protective of Noire

As for the cursing Tharja did to Noire, I believe, with all the other things taken into consideration from her other supports and conversations with Noire, I believe that Tharja was cursing her in order to make Noire stronger, so that Noire could survive, since Tharja knew she wouldn’t be able to protect her forever. Its stated that Noire never used a bow in her life, yet when she needed to she was an expert with it, Tharja has been improving her capabilities, but the one thing Tharja couldnt bring herself to change is Noires personality, her timidness would get in the way to much, but Tharja doesnt want to force her to be different, which is why she created Noires Talisman, something Noire has control over to help also improve herself when she needs it

She loves Noire but just is afraid to show it, she doesn’t understand how to raise a child and just does what she knows, Tharja herself  was also cursed as a child so this is normal to her. In the end it states that Noire sticks around so she can stay with her mother and have more time together and to assist in raising the current timeline Noire, which is one of the most touching things in my opinion.

Its all this, that you have to take from multiple supports and consideration is why I love Tharja, she feels like an actual person, she has her own desires, fears, worries and her own personality starts to form with all this. And yet people just say shes a whore based on what she wears.

Tharja and Robin is my OTP, and I love them both so much

Hi, Saori! I see you blog a lot about Sterek and I was wondering if you read fanfiction too? If yes, can you rec me some fics to read? If not, can you recommend a blog that you think recs good fics? I find your taste in Larry fics similar to mine and I was hoping you can do the same with Sterek as well. Thank you!

Oh boy, honestly I have no idea what to say, I’m just glad that not everybody’s fed up with my Sterek spams (probably a lot of people are but oh well) :D

First things first, you should check out @theofficialstereklibrary @wheredidhiseyebrowsgo @underappreciatedsterek @acountrygirlsfun @christinesficrecs @eternalsterekrecs and if you like Larry too then @nottooldforthisship recces  awesome stuff all the time, (her sterek fic rec tag is a blessing) (my fic rec page is kind of a mess, but you can find some there too)

As of my recs, I usually don’t do it cuz I’m always anxious I’ll rec something the other doesn’t like, but since you asked so nicely here are some of my faves:

The Undisclosed (109k) - For once the pack doesn’t panic when a new hunter arrives. The gleefully sadistic man has labelled himself a collector of all things rare in the supernatural world and wants one of the rarest creatures; a werefox. Content that the pack is safe, the wolves focus on why their human member is acting so strange, ignoring the fact that Stiles only started once learning who the man wanted…

I’ve read this like, how many times? Way too many to be healthy? Seems accurate. And I’m totally not re-reading it again, nope.

Baking My Way Into Your Heart (179k) - Derek is an uptight college student, all work and no play. His carefully scheduled life is thrown kilter when his regular barista is replaced with someone new.

This fic changed my life tbh.

As Luck Would Have It (I’m already smitten) (188k, WIP) - When Stiles meets his Dom for the first time, it’s nothing like the cutesy, lovey-dovey Subflicks he used to drag Scott to when they were thirteen. There’s no burst of sunshine when they collide, no sudden swell of violins when their eyes meet; only a really big dent in the front of his Jeep and a seriously pissed off Alpha glaring at him from the sidewalk.

When I see the e-mail I shut down and don’t even look up until I finished reading the update. It’s by far the most exciting fic I’ve read, and I read A LOT.

Do Not Go Gentle (108k, WIP) - Derek Hale, Beacon Hills Alpha, is thrown into a dark cell which already contains another captive.   Someone quite young.   Someone who’s clearly been badly treated.  Someone who cannot speak and who has a cruel collar around his neck.Derek is both a Dom and an Alpha.  What do you think he’ll do?

Same with this. Mondays can’t come fast enough. Dark, but worth it for me.

Home (160k, WIP) - January seventh. Seven days since the start of 2015, and seven days since his father’s death. The bastard, he thinks bitterly. The past year Derek Hale had made it blatantly obvious that he hated his scrawny guts, taking every given opportunity to shove him up against a wall, growl threats in his ears and roll his eyes whenever he stepped into the room, muttering some snide comment about how spastic or idiotic he was.So why did he fucking volunteer to take him in?

You can’t even imagine what this fic does to me. It’s everything.

Calling Mona's fate now

The writers have intentionally not made Mona a part of the group over these years, despite having proven herself time and time again, because they’re building up to Mona’s fate: she will die as a hero, to prove to the liars that she truly was on their side. Their reaction won’t be “OMG Mona, you were our best friend, we’re so sad” because that’s a lie. Their reaction will be “why did we keep pushing her away? I’m sad that it had to come to this for us to realise you’re not our enemy anymore”. Big difference.

Mona’s quote last episode about always being rejected within the group after having literally bled for them, really told me that they’ve been building towards this for ages. She does keep proving herself, and in the real world, I think she’d be forgiven by now. But the writers are making the liars not forgive and accept Mona because they want this to be the tragic ending to the show: Mona’s death. That’s about as sad as it’ll get, given the fairytale happy ending we’re about to get with the liars and their own stories.

I can even picture a nice cinematic shot of the graves of all three A’s lined up next to each other (why next to each other? Because Marlene). Mona, Charlotte and AD (who I think will die). And the liars’ standing over their graves. And then Spencer will drop a quote about SOMEWHAT forgiving all of them, because each of them had a very real, personal agenda. Maybe not forgiving, but understanding. The girls won the game - they’re all alive standing over all of the past A’s graves. But the show can end with a sense of understanding towards them. Marlene has said that this AD story will make us feel sad again because the best villains are the most human and down to earth villains.

alright im so done with all your pointless, shitty hate.

@revolutionarygays

so, vriska and terezis romantic love for each other is the engine that powers homestuck. that might be a *slight* overstatement but not by much - vriska only starts engaging with the beta session in an attempt to outdo terezi, and these engagements ultimately make her responsible for johns god tiering, the creation of bec noir, and, most significantly, jades narcolepsy - which means vriska is responsible for jade spending most of her childhood on prospit - which is how jade got so many of her prognostic visions from skaias clouds, as well as the knowledge that sburb was coming in the first place. and jade was the one who convinced rose to play, and rose in turn convinced john and dave to play. thanks, vriska! of course outdoing terezi is not vriskas SOLE motivation (vriska is traumatized, she WANTS to be a hero, and she sets all these dangerous events in motion so that she can be the one to save the day - vriska knows shes done terrible things and her redemption needs to be on an even greater scale) but it is what kickstarts her involvement

theres also some disagreement over whether theyre flushed or pale, and i would argue that it doesnt…. really matter? by the end of homestuck quadrants have been established as alternias version of compulsory heterosexuality - its an extremely rigid culturally-reinforced system of relationships that doesnt actually reflect the way most trolls experience attraction or romance. and its also great that not only does homestuck depict characters struggling with Fantasy Homophobia, but shows them by the end overcoming *actual* homophobia by entering gay relationships. its unfortunately very common in fantasy to show characters struggling with A Metaphor For Homophobia but, like, theyre still straight at the end. (this was exactly why i didnt like the fantastic beasts movie) so it feels good, feels natural to see terezi, a girl who keeps entering into relationships with men that are unfulfilling at best (dave) and outright abusive and damaging at worst (gamzee) out of a feeling of obligation to her societys norms, ultimately find fulfillment in a relationship with a girl who she always had powerful, moving feelings for, but couldnt be her girlfriend because those feelings didnt *fit* with the form that alternia dictated relationships should take. its Fantasy Alien Gay but its also Literal Human Gay

[Femslash February]: Matching Outfits

does anyone remember those times in like middle/high school where wearing the same outfit as someone else was considered social suicide? :P

The moment Alya walked into the school building, she felt a hand curl around her arm and yank her into a custodial closet. Not quite the start to her morning that she had expected.

She was a little disoriented as a mop toppled onto her head, and it wasn’t until Nino clicked on the light hanging above their heads that she saw Adrien advance on her, grab her tightly by the shoulders, and speak in a grave tone. “Where is Marinette?”

She lifted a brow. “…um, home? She’s awake, but she shows up like five minutes before class since she lives right there.”

“Yeah, yeah, I know she’s awake,” Adrien dismissed. “Listen Alya, this is very important. I need you to call Marinette right now and tell her to change outfits immediately.”

Alya’s eyes darted towards Nino, but he was leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, looking like he was witnessing a serious interrogation with literal lives at stake. She stared back at Adrien, who was still fervently awaiting her reply. She huffed. “Okay, what the fuck is going on?”

“Alya, babe, tell Mari to change,” Nino said simply. “Apparently we’re attempting to avoid the end of the world, and it’ll make no sense for the two of us to call her and tell her this.”

“What does Marinette’s outfit have to do with the end of the world. Why are we….what the hell, guys?!”

Adrien lifted his finger in front of her face, pulled out his cellphone, scrolled through Instagram, and flipped the screen towards her. “Please observe Exhibit A.”

It was a picture of Marinette that she posted to Instagram this morning. Black knee high boots. White skirt. Black turtleneck. Pretty basic for a school outfit, nothing out of the ordinary. “Yeah, she takes morning selfies and puts then on Instagram all the time, what’s your point?”

Adrien sighed pitifully, switched screens, and showed her his phone again. Exhibit B.”

Alya squinted at the photo for a moment, and then her eyes widened in horror. “Oh shit…”
