why did this even get notes

dont get me started on the 90s anime looked better post. the person who made that post has the personality of a wet towel and is just out to get as much notes and shit as possible because he needs constant validation on this site. or maybe im just bitter because he made a 100k post about “dont trust someone that is friends with someone who hurt you” over me when the most he could tell people i did to his pathetic ass was that i didnt say thank you after he took me out to eat after offering when he knew damn well that i did then played it off like he doesnt remember why we even stopped being friends and said i turned everyone against him when really people never liked him in the first place and i just stopped trying to force people all to get along with him and thats the real tea bitch.

are you a dinosaur or dragon person? are you a planets or stars person? are you a shiny or matte person?

Flashcards from a looong time ago! In terms of studying for tests, I usually just read over homework and notes the day before, as that’s good enough for me. But I’m taking AP Physics C so for this test I redid homework problems and did review sheets and even wrote these note cards! And I still bombed it. Sigh…why is it such a difficult class T.T

Also for you senior (12th grader) folks living in the US, March 30-31 aka doomsday approaches. Hope y’all get into nice colleges T.T

Some of these will not apply to many people so pls take them with a grain of salt. Also I’ve been collecting these pretty much for the two years I’ve been in college so it’s not a guide, they’re just… random I guess.

Making friends

Warning - specially tailored for super shy people aka me

  • There’s a thing called the ‘first week window of endless oportunities’. It’s when groups are still forming and everyone’s desperate to make friends. This is the time to put your best self forward (I’m not saying be fake, just a little extra friendly).
  • Leave. Your. Door. Open. Do it. Even if you have a roommate. Best way to make friends the first week.
  • Actually get out of your room. You’re not going to meet many people if you hole up in your room. If you have a tv room or people are watching a movie, I don’t care if you’re not interested in what they’re watching, go.
  • If you have the balls to go to the room nextdoor and introduce yourself then you probably can skip this section by all means do it!
  • But if you don’t, going from door to door asking for help with your laundry takes a lot less courage + you will learn how to do laundry. Asking to borrow something (pencil, hair tie, hair dryer) also works.
  • If you’re staying at a residence hall, ask to sit with people at lunch! Nobody is going to say no, i promise.
  • Similarly if you see someone alone, ask them to have lunch with you!
  • Also if you meet someone you get along with, as soon as you can, ask for their number ‘so you can go to the dinning hall together’.
  • Remember people’s names - it makes people feel like you actually care about them. I know it’s hard but make an effort. Also it just gets annoying when someone asks about your name for the fourth time. Use mnemonics if you have to.
  • Asking what someone’s major is and where they’re from is standard procedure when you meet them but it doesn’t make for an interesting conversation. Think of other questions!
  • Make sure to arrive about 10 min early to your classes. There’ll be very few people and so it’ll be easier to strike up a conversation (actually people will probably talk to you without you having to say anything which is g r e a t)
  • Say yes - as a rule of thumb, your social life should prevail over your academic life the first two weeks. This is the time where you’re not really pressed for time. Say yes to watching movies, say yes to going to lunch, say yes to going to campus events (and even to parties). Obviously don’t do anything that makes you really unconfortable but do try to step out of your comfort zone
  • Make friends with an upper-classman from your same major. Or at least be on speaking terms. Talk to them on Facebook, ask them about your major, just use any random idc excuse to introduce yourself, it doesn’t really matter how you do it.
  • Don’t go home every weekend, even if you live close by. You’ll miss out on the best of campus life and some of the most fun memories with your new friends.

Keeping your old friends

  • If you know you’re going home for the weekend, try to finish most of your assignments/studying and make time to hang out with your friends. Spending time with them is the best way to keep those friendships alive.
  • But! Don’t worry too much if you can’t come home or make time for your friends too often, you just have to make an effort to text them regularly. It will come naturally if it’s your best friend, but don’t forget to set a reminder to text other close friends at least once every two weeks.
  • You may think you don’t care now but you will once you come home for the summer.
  • If any of your friends are staying in your hometown for college, be ready for them to get another friend group. That doesn’t mean they’ve forgotten about you, but don’t be mad if they seem to have a lot more plans that don’t involve you. You can always ask to tag along some time and maybe even become friends with these people!
  • Some people you’ll just lose contact with. Don’t fret it.

Organization

  • Please print out or buy a calendar that has a whole page for each month. With boxes preferably *shameless plug*. You may think you have it all under control but there’s nothing like being able to see all your due dates, hang out plans and laundry days at a glance. (Also js but the pilot frixion are perfect to use on calendars because they’re erasable).
  • There’s so much space under your bed. UTILIZE IT.

13 Reasons Why

Thoughts on 13 Reasons Why characters and a rating of how much I dislike them from 1 being “my baby!!!!” to 10 being “FUCK THEM THEY CAN ROT”

Hannah Baker: Didn’t deserve everything she went through especially rape. She pushed some people away though and sometimes she was kind of idk how to word it but I didn’t like stuff about her at times. Either way she deserved so much better than what she got. Deserved to be happy with Clay. 2/10.

Clay Jensen: Will fight anyone for Hannah. He was so shy around her and didn’t know what to do whenever he was with her, he’s so precious. Sometimes there were some things he did that didn’t sit right with me but he definitely deserved a happy ending with Hannah Baker; they deserved to be happy and in love and ugh. Also… took like 4823707592 years to listen to the tapes? 2/10.

Tony Padilla: Gay POC which I love because we need more of them. I love him he was so patient with Clay and all he ever did was try and protect Hannah’s wishes. Glad he shared the tapes with Hannah’s parents because they deserved to know why she killed herself instead of being left in the dust wondering why. I was always so happy when he came on screen. CLAY LISTEN TO THE GODDAMN TAPES. 1/10.

Jeff Atkins: My pure cinnamon roll, didn’t deserve to die because of a stupid girl who couldn’t own up to her mistakes. I hate how nobody including his parents and except Clay never knew he wasn’t drunk that night he died. Just wanted Clay and Hannah together. Your fave is problematic: uses “unique” 7 times in an essay. -5435973495797/10. I love him forever, hes so great. Never did anything bad.

Justin Foley: Didn’t deserve the home life he had BUT i really hated him for what he did to Hannah and the fact that he’s a rape enabler and a rape apologist like he literally let his best friend rape his unconscious girlfriend, covered up for him, and lied to her about it and then when she found out, he STILL was justifying what he and Bryce did by telling her that he didn’t tell anyone because Bryce does all this shit for him. KNEW that whatever happened at that party was fucking Jessica up but didn’t come forward until the very end. Claims he cared for her but you don’t do that shit to someone you claim you care about. Fuck him for that. 8/10.

Jessica Davis: She was so cool and nice in the beginning but then I hated how she got mad at Hannah and slapped her for the list instead of Alex, like really??? You think she asked to be on that list?? PLEASE. But after all that, she was still nice towards her and was never ill-mannered when it came to Hannah. Also, can we talk about how she didn’t deserve to be raped??? Justin Foley DEFINITELY didn’t deserve her. YOU GO GIRL. TELL HIM YOU NEVER WANT TO SEE HIM AGAIN. 5/10.

Alex Standall: He made some poor decisions making that list for a stupid reason and then letting Hannah pay the price. I somewhat like him though. I think he was a redeemable character and had a conscience (although it was too late, rip Hannah Baker) and felt that he needed to own up to it and tell the truth, was ready for whatever penalty he was gonna get. Was the only one (for a while) who thought what the others were trying to do was stupid. He definitely deserved better too, he didn’t deserve to shoot himself (or in other theories, didn’t deserve to be shot by Tyler). Please be okay…please be alive, baby. 4/10.

Courtney Crimsen: GIRL, BYE. I hate and will always hate her character so much. Her and Bryce should just rot. She was a rape apologist and only cared about herself. Like girl I get that coming out is hard, I haven’t even done it, but to fuck up Hannah’s life like that? Are you serious? Justified Bryce’s actions to hide her truth. And she fucked up Jessica’s life too, in my opinion. She tried so hard to convince herself (and others) that Hannah was lying, Bryce isn’t a rapist, and that Jessica was never raped just so she can stay in the fucking closet. Like there’s nothing wrong with being gay. And she has two gay dads for fucks sake. 10/10 would always hate her again.

Zach Dempsey: I think he genuinely liked Hannah but after all the shit Hannah had been through and the fact that his friends were his friends, I definitely see Hannah’s side of why she shot him down. I think he, himself, was lonely too but in different way; just because someone’s popular doesn’t mean they’re not lonely. Didn’t get compliments so he stole Hanah’s when she needed it most (I hate how he did that ugh like WHY…did you really need it?). Redeemable character, though. Also…HE KEPT HANNAH’S NOTE IN HIS WALLET!!! 5/10.

Tyler Down: Fuck him. A fucking creep. Like, he stalked people and took pictures of them when they were unaware (especially Hannah) and when she confronted him, HE FUCKING SENT THE PICTURE TO EVERYONE. Claims he “loved” Hannah but really?? FUCK HIM. Why did he even have so much guns? I’m pretty sure he’s planning a school shooting…fucking psychopath…”I can take care of myself” BOY BYE. And if he did shoot Alex, FUCK HIM EVEN MORE. 9/10.

Ryan Shaver: Didn’t respect Hannah’s wishes. Only cared about himself and poetry. Didn’t even care that Hannah didn’t want her shit to get out. I only liked him whenever he said Bryce is a rapist and that Courtney should just shut the fuck up and stop justifying Bryce’s actions. 8/10.

Marcus Cole: He cared more about himself and his reputation more than anyone. Thought he was the shit. Sexually assaulted Hannah then called her easy for refusing. 9/10.

Sheri: I liked her and she was genuinely nice but she crashed the stop sign and left a drunken Hannah at the scene and fled. Caused Jeff to die and I hate her for it. Though she reported it because she knew it was the right thing to do, it was already waaay too late. 6/10 because of Jeff.

Bryce: Rapist. Douchebag. Scum of the earth. He didn’t even think what he did was wrong. He raped two fucking girls and didn’t even feel remorse. He just thought every girl wanted him and that was that. I hate him so much, he can die. 102804802020x100000/10.

Mr. Porter: Could have tried better to stop Hannah from killing herself. She was set on suicide until she had doubts and needed just one person to help her and the one person she came to didn’t care enough to chase after her when she left his room that day. Worst. Guidance Counselor. Ever. 8/10.

Y’know, i still don’t know quite what the blood moon does, because although there are ideas thrown around….there hasn’t really been a clear answer on what it does exactly.

“It’s telling marco he’s supposed to be with star!!”

Well, no, because Marco and Jackie have kissed on multiple occasions and the moon only showed up once….and that was when Star was in danger.

“The Captain said it was “The Moon Of Lovers””

Yes, the random voice we don’t know the origins of said that, and until i understand who that was….i don’t really consider that a reliable source…

The Demons have this ball as a tradition, If anyone knows about how this works….it’s Tom and his people.

A random voice calling it that doesn’t mean it is, and as far as i know, it said that to make Marco wanna go in order to keep Star from getting back with Tom.

The demons there make it clear that it intertwines souls, but never quite states that it means the couple is destined for each other (Which is another cliche i hope this show diverts from).

It picks out a couple, yeah, but for what purpose? Intertwining their souls is crazy and all but i’m not exactly sure what that means per say? Or what exactly intertwining souls do?

This show never answers the questions i want XD

But anyway, if you were to say that it DOES mean that the couple is destined for each other….then uh..

What about Tom?

No, i’m serious, Tom was under the light for a few seconds and nobody has anything to say about this whatsoever?

He even acknowledges that he’s under the light BY LOOKING UP AT IT.

((Take note that star is suddenly far away from the light))

This scene is weird, because the light followed Marco and Star EVERYWHERE before…and stopped following when Tom showed up.

Why did it hold on Tom at all? Why not stop before he gets into the light?

And yeah yeah i know what you’re gonna say.. “Well, Tom doesn’t count because he didn’t dance under the light”

Well, that one demon announcer never actually said you had to dance under the light, you just had to be selected and under it.

Dancing is probably a tradition, but not a requirement.

And isn’t it a bit suspicious that Tom had to y’know…..oh so conveniently leave before the moon showed up, out of the Moon’s light range? And then when he IS in light range the Moon shines on him?

But here’s the weirder thing, when did Star back up out of the light ? Tom JUST pushed Marco when he and star were still in the light.

Which means the light…left Star…and diverted to Tom..as he was pushing Marco.

WHY DIDN’T IT STAY ON STAR?? SHE HASN’T MOVED FROM HER SPOT!!!

Technically speaking Tom and Marco in this case, WERE the last ones under the light together…even if it was very brief.

Star and Marco may be bonded, but is anyone really doubting that Tom could also be bonded? Whether he was actually chosen, or that he forced himself into it?

If he’s bonded to anyone in that mess, it’s Marco, since the light left Star when Tom showed up…

But the prophecy at St. Olga’s!!

Yeah…its clearly about the bloodmoon bond…but take a close look at Marco’s symbol …

There’s an eye in the center of his symbol.

Why is there an EYE??!!

I would associate this with eclipsa or monsters except that this room has to do with the bloodmoon bond….so unless it has to do with Marco being evil or something.. (Which is a possibility)) , there isn’t much to associate it with.

But if this had to do with the bond… then would this be a sign that Tom was bound to Marco?

Not saying it has to be true but think about it…

What more of a clever twist it would be….if Tom had been bonded to Marco (And maybe technically Star) this entire time?

Good Cartoons tend to have pretty subtle hints and clever details hiding in plain sight, and between the eye, and Tom being oddly placed into the Moon’s light….I think they’re up to something…

So I saw this letter in TLD and noticed that the address on it was not 221 B Baker Street. So I looked at it.

S. Holmes

156 Montague St.

London

Okay. So I looked it up and clicked on google street view. Guess where.

That’s the street that Sherlock was imagining when imagining “““Faith Smith”““’s flat. I’d call that an Easter egg.

BUT WHY WAS HIS MAIL GOING THERE AND HOW DOES HE HAVE IT

DID I DO IT MOFTISS?? DID I FIND SOMETHING???

UPDATE: Just to be clear, this is only meant to be a fun find… not evidence of a certain ship or having anything to do with what people are calling queerbaiting.. and as a side note I wholeheartedly ship sherlolly. Seems some are even getting mad at me for not knowing that it was Sherlock’s old address, when that really doesn’t change much about what I said before and I don’t understand why it would inflict a negative response anyway. Again, just an Easter egg, most likely… if everyone could relax a little that would be great. All the best xx

UPDATE 2: Please stop reblogging this. It was just meant to be for fun, but it’s not fun anymore.

who you should fight: hwarang edition
  • sun woo: fight him at any given moment
  • ah ro: do not come close, she'll end you. 0/10 would recommend
  • sam maek jong: ok you can fight him and probably win but then you'll see his sad puppy eyes and realise you haven't actually won bc now you feel terrible??? stay away if you have a conscience
  • princess sook-myung: if you want to lose the fight and your pulse, go ahead and fight her
  • soo ho: absolutely. obliterate him or die trying. then now forever
  • ban ryu: he already has enough to deal with please spare him (side note you'd totally win)
  • soo yeon: i mean you could try if you're ready to get your head smashed in
  • hansung: honestly why would you hate yourself this bad do not touch this cinnamon roll
  • yeo wool: don't even think about it, he'll have you fucking exposed with all the shit you did from your 12 year-old phase to present and nobody is ready for that. ever

hello, it’s friday night and i have a reach for you:

mcdonald’s & coke, best buddies

mcdonald’s and coke have had a commercial partnership since 1955. i always knew that mcdonald’s only served coke (though never on a conscious level), and finally bothered to look up their connected history thanks to whatever theory this is trying to be. they’ve both been major players in brand globalization, and i think this is what the mcdonald’s sign in sana’s header is referring to.

i don’t think skam plays with product placement the way american shows do; they mention brands and shows and places the way real people would, prioritizing reality over indirect endorsements. so i thought it was…strange that we saw the mcdonald’s brand balloons featured so prominently. why these? why not plain balloons? and why did the logo get so much screen time?

but then people pointed out that this was a reference to the balloon boys’ connection to even, because of where he tried to go in 3x08.

i wanted to believe those two small references were meant to bind the two squads together, but i was also able to brush them off as coincidences. mcdonald’s is pop culture, so you cannot erase its existence from a show dedicated to depicting teenagers in that context.

but then we got another reference, shortly after even confirms his connection to the rest of the balloon squad in 4x03.

(side note: i am glad that mcdonald’s is not a negative memory for either isak or even, that it’s still part of their lives and isak is actually quite excited about it)

(okay was that a side note or foreshadowing…?)

anyway, i could leave it at that, a solid connection between even and the balloon squad. but then today’s clip of the pepsi max gang at sana’s, with their ridiculously prominent placement of the drink they are supposedly not named after anymore, reminded me of the coke vs. pepsi war that is also a pop culture cornerstone. and where have we seen coke? hei briskeby.

this could be a coincidence too, they’re just boys, casually drinking preferred beverages while they’re having fun recording their videos. but at this point i am way too sensitive to branding and the small hints that julie leaves for us to let it slide.

we’re seeing the tensions ramp up with pepsi max, but i’m hoping, on the coca-cola side, we’re going to see a reunion. mcdonalds & coke, best buddies. those balloons were the first bridge back to even, and no matter the rough times coming, we’ll see more clues that will bring them together. if i see the balloon squad eating mcdonald’s or even taking a swig of coke, then i just might actually die.

oh my god did i just try to write a corporate marketing headcanon

Multi-chapter fics need love

Attention everyone.

The more chapters a fic has, the MORE YOU NEED TO COMMENT.

I’m looking at all these fics with lots of kudos, lots of hits, lots of subscriptions I’m sure, and then *crickets* at an update. IF THERE ARE SAY 100 PEOPLE SUBSCRIBED, WHY ARE THERE ONLY TWO COMMENTS?? Let’s say only 10% of the people still read it. That’s ten comments that should be there.

Too shy or worried or blah to comment? Here’s some copypastes for you:

  • I love this chapter so much.
  • I love reading this fic.
  • I think about this fic a lot.
  • It makes me happy when I see there is an update.
  • This story is so intense and well-written.
  • I’ve been following since the beginning and it’s better than I imagined.
  • I’ve fallen in love with your characterization.
  • *quote your favorite part* This is my favorite!
  • This fic made me think about a lot of things.
  • I’ve learned some things about myself reading this story.
  • This is my favorite fic of all time.
  • I reread this all the time.
  • *incoherent screaming*
  • This is absolutely delectable and I love it.

Use one! Use all! There are endless possibilities! Don’t feel pressured to write an essay. Just say that you are still here and you’re happy!

It would be preferable for you not to say

  • Can’t wait for the next chapter!

It’s ok when combined with other things, but if that’s all you say…..? We’re looking for love on the hard work we just posted

When you post your first chapter/oneshot, you worry: “Is anyone reading it? Does anyone like it? PLease someone, anyone!?” and you wait for people to come into your space.

When you post your Xth chapter, you already know that people are reading it, there’s already a crowd gathered. Even if it’s only a few people, you know that they are there. “Does no one like it? What’s going on? What happened? Everyone loved it before?? I thought?? Did I mess up?”

NOT COMMENTING ON A MULTI-CHAPTER FIC IS LIKE GOING TO THE THEATRE AND NOT CLAPPING BETWEEN SCENES. LIKE THERE IS NO APPLAUSE AT INTERMISSION.

Love your author. They need it.

Bound to Happen (Part 1), Lin-Manuel Miranda x Reader

Prompt: The chronicles of being Lin’s assistant to maybe something more.

Words: 1,373

Author’s Note: Title taken from a quote from Donna, that their relationship was ‘bound to happen sometime’. Heavily based off of West Wing, if you never watched it, sorry, but I hope you’re still able to enjoy this.

Warnings: Slow, slow, slow burn.

You knew you shouldn’t have gone out with the girls last night. The slightest breeze had you nearly doubled over in hungover induced pain. Still, Lin needed you.

The Richard Rogers Theater door slammed behind you, a long groan echoing from you and a few girls who had found home on the cold floor of the stage. Their cheeks were pressed against the cement in an attempt to ease their aching heads and bones with little relief.

Hey!” Karen stood at the other side of the stage, completely unaffected by the literal bottles of liquor she had consumed only hours ago. “Is Lin here yet?”

Her eyes were narrowed and her arms were crossed around her chest. She tried not to show it, but she was pissed.

“I’ll let him know you’re looking for him.” You offered, watching her hair swish as she sauntered off. If there was one person you certainly didn’t need on your bad side as your brain pounded for relief, it was Karen.

A glance at your watch confirmed the time and you knew Lin would be turning onto the block right about now. You hustled backstage, pouring coffee into a to-go cup along with the appropriate amount of sugar and milk.

Balancing coffee in your hand and a memo pad in another, you made your way back outside the theater. Shielding your eyes from the glaring morning sun, you watched as Lin skipped down the block in your direction.

“Karen’s looking for you.” You told him as soon as he was in earshot.

“Huh?” Was his intelligent response, readjusting the strap on his backpack.

“Karen is looking for you.”

“Usually ‘good morning’ is an approved greeting for this time of day.” He continued his trek past you.

Good morning.” You forced, head continuing to pound incessantly.

“What’s up?” He stopped at the door when you made no move to follow him.

“Karen is looking for you.” You repeated, eyes threatening. “I’m saying that Karen is looking for you.” Your eyes shined a threatening glance at the importance.

“Oh shit.” He sighed, wishing he hadn’t come in today, let alone be breathing in a world where he had pissed off Karen Olivo, “What did I do?”

You shrugged, offering him the cup of coffee.

“What’s this?”

Coffee,” You gestured to the little logo of a steaming cup on the side, “Says so right here.”

“No, why did you get me this? You never bring me coffee.” He finally decided to man up and swing the door open, taking a few hesitant steps into the theater. He glanced around. No Karen in sight.

His eyes shot to you when there was a lack of response. He watched for a moment as you busied yourself with your memo pad, crossing out paragraphs and starring important deadlines.

“Hey.” He nudged your side, gaining your attention, “How long have you worked for me?”

Technically I don’t work for you. I’m your assistant, but you don’t pay me, the theater does.” You eyes were back on your pad, “They certainly don’t pay me enough.” You mumbled, which Lin chose to ignore for this conversation.

“How long have you been my assistant?” He tried.

“Here? Two years.”

“How many times has Karen been upset with me?”

“How many days are in two years?” You tilted your head, attempting quick math in your head.

“Okay, so we can agree Karen is always mad at me. I don’t plan on dying today. At least, not at the hands of Karen Olivo.” He smiled, though you were still unconvinced considering the daggers Karen had glared just minutes ago.

Lin-Manuel Miranda!” Came her shriek, more than likely from across the theater. She was quite the belter.

“This might be my last meal.” Lin visibly deflated, taking a long sip of his coffee as you pushed him in the direction of where Karen had taken off. “When I die today, tell my story.” He shuffled off, leaving you with your list of tasks for the day and an ensemble of women staring at you from the floor of the theater.

“What?”

“Nothing.” Mandy smirked, mid stretch, “Nothing at all.”

You hustled off without a second thought to the looks each of the girls shared. Working with Lin for the years you had were rough and patchy. You went all the way back to college, to the very first drafts of In the Heights. Back when he couldn’t get half a dozen musicians to play his music, let alone fill a tiny theater with people who wanted to watch it.

When it was announced that he would be spearheading the student production with an actual band and an actual cast and an actual creative team, it also came with an opening for an unpaid internship. Needing quick experience to top off your resumes, you applied and were never allowed to look back.

Lin took a liking to you immediately and practically called dibs on you. You were by his side whenever you could be, and when you weren’t he was sneering at whoever took you away.

You never expected him to take you this far - to Broadway. Yet, as you bustled around the theater to make sure nothing would fall apart, you didn’t regret a single second you spent by his side.

Most days were spent doing everything under the sun and more. Setting up appointments, shifting through interview questions and making sure Lin didn’t run himself into the ground.

It was a tough job to say the least, but when you went home several hours after you were supposed to be off, you still had a smile on your face knowing you made someone’s day a bit easier.

Meeting up with Lin before the show was routine, although the air seemed a bit tense after his conversation with Karen. You didn’t push it, knowing that if he wanted you to know about it he would have blurted out every detail the second you walked through the door.

You sat on his dressing room chair as he adjusted his collar in the mirror, eyes heavy but determined. Your pen clicked against his desk.

“Stop that.” He told you, eyes not moving from the mirror before him.

You clicked your pen once more to test the waters. His eyes shot to you in a small glare and you pulled back, not wanting to push him before a performance.

“What do we have?” He asked, settling into his couch and fixing his gaze on you.

You reviewed his schedule, a heavy emphasis on the appearance the cast would be making on Lopez Tonight, the first late night show he had ever been on.

“I have a date that night so I’ll miss the performance, but I’ll be able to see you guys off from here.” You added, quickly moving on to the next item.

“A what?”

“A date. You should really try one sometime. I have at least a dozen names whenever you’re ready.”

Lin rolled his eyes as he pushed away the thought of you having a life outside the theater and why he hadn’t been informed of it. In particular, why he wasn’t a part of it.

“That’s fine.” He said, moving to search through his mini-fridge. “Did you get more-”

“Behind the raisin bread.” You muttered, shuffling through your notes, “And I didn’t ask for your permission. Nor do I need it.”

Uh huh.” He pushed aside the raisin bread, greeted with cups of applesauce. “I should vet this guy, what’s his social security number?”

“He’s a teacher, he’s a nice guy, and he’s taking me out to dinner.”

Lin stuck his tongue out at the positive description.

“You haven’t even met him and you’re tossing him in the trash. At least I give the losers you date a chance.”

“I don’t date los-”

Claire.” You quirked your eyebrow, challenging a comeback.

“Fair point.” He tossed the now empty cup of applesauce just as places were called. “I gotta work. Keep my life going while I’m out there, yeah?” He winked before disappearing, not to be seen again until intermission where he would scarf down whatever lunch you picked up for him.

He would surely be dead without you there.

vi . this month i realized one little thing. i have so so many mental schemes. and the majority of them are really bad for me and for my mental health and for my life in general. for example, when i wake up in the morning to go to school my brain decides that i have to feel stressed. and that i just can’t enjoy the morning. even if i don’t have any tests that day. when i realized it i started paying attention to what i feel and why, and decided that i wouldn’t have let my brain ruin every single morning! and it worked!!!

vii . at the end of the day write a done list. this has been one of the best thing for my happiness levels lately. list every single good thing that you did, even if it’s a small thing. and feel proud about it!!

viii . sometimes i just can’t get started with a specific task because i set goals that are too high and that scare me before i even start. if i tell myself that i’m going to revise all of my notes i can be sure that i won’t do it. but if i set the goal to revise for a limited space of time, or to just study some chapters, i don’t feel overwhelmed and eventually when i’m finished with the goal i have set, i’ll just keep on working!

ix . when i’m feeling really down or there’s something that bothers me, i know that the only thing i have to do is writing. i take out my journal and start scribbling what’s on my mind. i feel completely free and in touch with myself, to me writing is like a therapy. many times i got to understand a problem that i couldn’t solve… just by writing. sometimes dancing and singing to my favourite songs works as well. just try to find what’s an activity that has the power to calm you down or to make you see things more clearly, or something that can be an outburst for feelings you have been suppressing.

x . this month i learned that i. have. to. throw myself away and just do things. i have many ideas but i’m always too shy to do anything. but in these past weeks i tried really hard to escape the prison i have built for myself. i started interviewing some of my classmates and recording them as they talk, which is something that i wished to do for a long time. i made a group on a messaging app to talk about some more serious topics with them. i took all the courage i had and clearly expressed my feelings about some stuff to my best friend, and we are happier now. i went out of my comfort zone and experienced new things. even if i didn’t always feel perfectly comfortable, i tried to avoid panicking, and instead i took a deep breath and reminded myself that failing was always better than not doing anything at all!

xi . and last but not least, here is some of the music i’ve been listening to in january. enjoy!

agata

It was a bad idea. He knows it the moment he sees his face. All he needed were his freaking biology notes. He should have waited. He should have let Sana give them to him tomorrow. Screw the test. Who needs to keep a 6 anyway? But… now he’s here.
“Mikael.” He shakes his hand, and the hands of the other boys whose names he forgets the second they introduce himself.
“Isak,” he says, almost choking on his own name. Sana is studying them, her arms crossed, leaning against the doorway.
“So you are my sister’s biology partner? Is she doing well?” The question breaks the spell the previous man of Even’s life had on him.
“Sanasol? She’s doing alright.” Sana rolls her eyes at him.
“Please Isak, we’ve both been at a solid 6 for the past few months.” That’s true. He still can’t stop watching Mikael. Mikael who he would recognize between a million faces. What does he tell Even? Does he even tell Even?
“If you wait here I’ll go find your notes,” Sana says before she disappears.
“Do you have a strong throw?” one of the boys asks. Isak guesses his name might be Adam?
“Sure?”
“Want to play? All you need to do is get the ball through the hoop when the song goes Smoke Weed Every Day.”
“Okay.” Because what else is he going to say? He takes a stand and while the boys get hyped up around him he listens to the music. Every time one of them bumps into him it sends cold shivers down his spine. Were these guys Evens friends at Bakka? Why has he never talked about them?
The second he hears the word smoke he throws and somehow gets the ball in. The boys hoot.
“You’re better than Elias’ sister,” one of the boys notes with a grin.
“I got it in, too,” Sana says as she walks in.
“Yeah, but not at the right time, now did you?”
“Whatever Elias. I have your notes, Isak.” He gladly follows her to the front door.
“Are you okay?” she asks, giving him a puzzled look.
“Yes, yes. Thank you Sanasol.” He nearly rips the notes out of her hands and closes the front door behind him himself.
That was Mikael. He just met Mikael. What does he do now?

Some Maybe Not As Common Sicknarios

- we got in a fist fight and now have detention together and I’m only getting you tissues and offering my jacket because your sneezing and shivering is getting on my nerves. I am definitely not concerned

- we play in school band together and your normally long, stunning high trumpet notes sound short and choppy and WOW do you look sick

- I’m your manager at our job at the grocery store and I keep getting customer complaints of an employee coughing all over products in aisle 5. Why did you even come in today??

- we both teach swimming lessons and you come in sick. I watch you take a dive, only to not come up. Oh mY GOD YOU’RE DROWNING.

- we are singing with a choir at a chorus competition and you look really bad but we need your voice. I have to discreetly keep a hand around your waist to keep you from falling over as we sing

- you are my biggest track competitor. We are both neck and neck and the finish line is right in front of us when you suddenly collapse. I should take the opportunity to win but you look terrible! Have you been running while this sick the whole time!?

- I was really craving some pizza and you are my delivery boy and wOW YOU LOOK TERRIBLE. NO PLEASE COME IN. LET ME CALL YOUR EMPLOYER. HOW DID YOU EVEN DRIVE LIKE THAT??

- we walk our dogs at the same time everyday and I spot your dog running around without you. I grab your dog and find you passed out by a tree. ARE YOU OKAY??

Why you should buy: Nova 2016-2017

The Nova Corps, if you don’t know, were basically the intergalactic police force of old. Powered by their technologically advanced helmets and armor, the Corps are now nonexistent except for two Novas of Earth: Richard Rider and Sam Alexander. Marvel’s 2016 series Nova, by Jeff Loveness and Ramon Perez, is essentially a buddy cop series in space. Comedy, adventure, drama, family, friendship, romance, and more, Nova has something for everyone, and is (for me) one of the best ongoing comics hitting the shelves.

This comic really compliments Marvel’s more comedic yet heartwarming tone that they’re implementing in their cosmic/space adventure genre. If you like Guardians of the Galaxy in any form, Nova is definitely for you! Some other reasons to read Nova:

1. Captivating Characters and POC lead

Richard Rider was the original Nova, who died a hero by sacrificing his life for the galaxy, but mysteriously returned to life. Sam Alexander is a mixed Mexican teenager from Arizona who inherited his Nova helmet from his missing father, who was a part of the Nova Corps. While Sam’s character is more focussed in growing up, high school, and family, Richard’s is completely different, tackling issues of life, the difficulties of moving on, and trauma. The contrast between the Novas of new and old also add to why the comic is so diverse when it comes to genres, but instead of feeling convoluted, the narratives compliment each other extremely well. The bond that builds between Richard and Sam create a really interesting and fun dynamic that’s less of a typical mentor/mentee relationship then something much more complex and personal. They both learn from each other and grow through their friendship, which makes their character development intriguing and appealing.

The artist and co-writer, Ramon Perez, is also Latino, and he’s made it clear how much he loves Sam (lol), and is keen on depicting him and his family very visibly Not White. So you’re also supporting creators of color by buying this series!

(There’s also a talking Russian astronaut telepath dog, Cosmo, who’s a friend of the Novas and a very cute and hilarious addition to the cast)

2. Gorgeous Art/Colors

Ramon Perez’s art style is extremely dynamic and beautiful, and Ian Herring’s bright color palette full of pinks, purples, and blues create a visually stunning comic. Fight scenes are thrilling, and alien and enemy designs are completely lovely.

My favorite parts of the comic art-wise is of Richard and the demons that torment and infect him (no spoilers…) These depictions are mind-blowingly gorgeous and haunting. Not much else to say other then to take a look for yourself!

3. Its Pretty Fucking Funny/Endearing

Jeff Loveness is a Emmy and WGA nominated comedic writer for Jimmy Kimmel, The Onion, and more. His extremely well-crafted dialogue is full of humor and fun, and the comedy makes the characters even more charming. He also enjoys poking fun at the ridiculousness of the comic world:

(This scene has like 20,000 notes so why did none of ya’ll actually buy the comic)

I also love how the humor in Sam’s scenes make him a very endearing kid you really want to root for. Sam’s self-doubt and typical teenage insecurity is very relatable and always depicted in the best ways:

Unfortunately, despite all the good reviews and positive fan feedback, this comic is getting cancelled after 7 issues, which is a huge mistake on Marvel’s part. Nova really feels like its just starting on something big, and it was heartbreaking for me to hear about its cancellationI really wish I wrote this sooner (Loveness and Perez were so bummed out about it, I feel like I personally failed them) but I’ll still do anything to promote this comic as much as possible, the creators deserve that much. Its a very charming and entertaining series, and I love this hidden gem with all my heart! I hope this convinced you to read Nova!

Definitely check out if you like: Starlord, Guardians of the Galaxy, Power-Man and Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, Green Lanterns, and Blue Beetle. Tbh i’d even say space dramas like Voltron and Cowboy Bebop have a similar vibe.

If you enjoy the comic, please support these creators and sales by buying the comic instead of torrenting! Check out your nearest comic book store, or buy digital issues on Marvel.com or Comixology.com for #1-5!

Your Move

The nine times Simon and Baz prank each other and the one time they don’t

Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Epilogue

April 1

Simon

I find the letter at the foot of my bed when I wake up.

Simon,

I don’t know exactly how to say this

I’ve been sitting here staring at the blank page for ten minutes

Why did you have to be the Mage’s Heir?

I wish this didn’t have to be so hard to say

Crowley, this is ridiculous

We’ve lived together all this time and

Bet you thought I hated you

I don’t hate you

I can’t even explain what I

Why did we have to be enemies?

Fuck it.

I love you Simon Snow.

Baz

He finds me outside the dining hall, and when he storms towards me I see the letter in his hand. I brace myself.

Simon

“When did you even write this?” I begin.

Baz looks taken aback.  “What does that have to do with anything?”

“And why did you have to write it today?”

“It’s April Fool’s Day, Snow,” he tells me, “or did you forget already?”

“That’s just it,” I say, my voice getting louder. “Why would you write something like this on a day where it could be a prank?”

           “For exactly that reason.”

“Well, what am I supposed to think?”

He gives me a look.  “Think whatever you want, Snow,” he shrugs, “I’ve made my move, just focus on making yours.”

I glare up at him a second longer.  His eyes are gray and deep and almost sad.

His mouth is right there, and his lips look soft like his hair.

I wonder if he’s noticed where I’m looking.

Baz

I wonder if he’ll reach up…

Or if I’ll have to reach down…

Or if I’m even brave enough…

Simon

I’m not brave enough.

I step back while I still can, before I’ve been staring at his mouth too long or before one of us closes the distance.

I wish I had some sort of parting phrase, something more eloquent than “fuck you”, but I don’t.

So I turn and walk away, feeling his eyes bore into my back, feeling that same magnetic tension I’d felt when I’d left him to cry away his own nightmares.

I wait until I’m around the corner before I start running.

Baz

Maybe a love letter is a lame April Fool’s Day prank, but when else am I supposed to tell him? When else would he take it with a grain of salt?

Except he didn’t take it with a grain of salt, even today.

I hope it makes him hate me.  I hope he burns it in front of me.  I hope he makes me burn it with my own fire.

I wish he would just break my heart and leave it at that.

Because the only thing worse than knowing he hates me is not knowing.

Simon

I could have kissed him.

           I wanted to kiss him.

           Why?

I’m outside when I run out of breath and I lean against an ivy-covered wall before pulling my phone out of my pocket and dialing Penny’s number.

           “Hello?”

           “Penny?”

           “Hey Simon, what’s up?”

I squeeze my eyes shut.  “You’ve got to help me.”

           “Why, what’s wrong?”

           “I…”

           “What?”

           “I almost kissed Baz.”

Penelope

I find Simon sitting on the ground against a wall, and the grass is wet but I join him anyway and wait for him to speak.

           “What’s wrong with me, Penny?”

I shoot him a look.  “Nothing’s wrong with you, Simon,” I assure him, “you’re just scared.”

           “Baz hates me.”

           I don’t answer.

           “And I hate him, right?”

“If you have to ask me, then you probably don’t.”

“But I must,” he insists, “I always have.”

           “Things change.”

           “Not this.”

“Where is this even coming from?” I ask.  He hands me a folded slip of paper.  A letter, and even though it’s not signed, it’s clear who wrote it.

“It was on my bed this morning.”

“You do realize this is probably a prank, right?”

“But that’s just it,” he sits forward urgently, “I can’t tell.”

“Simon,” I tell him firmly, “if he does feel this way, then what better day to tell you than on a day you might not realize it’s true?”

“But why wouldn’t he want me to realize?”

“Oh, I don’t know,” I scoff, “maybe because you’ve been mortal enemies your whole life and he’s supposed to kill you and it would be bad enough if he thought you hated him but even worse if you didn’t?”

He doesn’t respond, weighing the possibility in his mind.

           “Quick question.”

           “What?”

           “Who almost kissed whom?”

He shakes his head.  “I’m not really sure anymore.”

“Did you want to kiss him?”

It’s a long moment before he gives the slightest of nods.  “Why would I want that, Penny?”

I put a hand on his knee.  “Oh, Si,” I murmur sympathetically, “you know why.”

Baz

I only go to the room for a minute after lunch to grab a jacket, but when I get there, there’s a note on my bed.

Baz,

I love you too.

Simon

Of course I do.  How could I have doubted for a second that I did?

Baz

I avoid him for the rest of the day, spending most of it wandering the catacombs and when that gets boring, the Wavering Wood.  I climb to the top of the highest tree I can find and close my eyes, trying to remember how it felt yesterday.

I don’t know if I should be reading into the note or not, but that’s probably my own fault.  I did it to him, so he did it to me, all on the one day of the year dedicated to practical jokes.

Yet neither of us have actually said April Fool’s.

I wait as long as I can to return to our room for the night, and by then it’s dark already.  Simon doesn’t appear to have come up yet, but the window is open, so he must have been here since I found his note.

As I stare at the window, something dark and long swoops through the outside air lazily.

I venture closer, and it swings by again, but this time I see what it is.  A dragon’s tail.

Part of me wants to yank it hard and send him tumbling (his wings would save him anyway, no harm done), but I just poke my head out the window and find Simon on the roof, his tail dangling over the edge.

“What in Merlin’s name are you doing up there?”

“Turns out I like high places,” he replies without looking at me.  I should go back inside (I don’t have anything else to say), but the sky is clear tonight and the moon is hitting his curls in a new way and I could study them for hours.

“What are you looking at?” he asks when he catches me staring.

I shake myself out of my trance.  “Nothing,” I say, ducking to retreat back in.

           “You should come up.”

           “What?”

“Up here, it’s a great view.”

“I can see just fine from here, Snow.”

“Yeah, but…” he trails off, still gazing out over the grounds, “I wanted to talk to you about something.”

“You can come down if you want to talk to me.”

“Where’s the fun in that?”  He shoots me a shy smile like he’s not sure if it’s allowed. “Seriously, just get out here.”

I peer over the windowsill to the moat.  “I’ll fall.”

“No you won’t,” Simon scoffs, “I’ve seen you climb.”

           “And I fell.”

           “I’d catch you.”

He won’t look at me again but I can tell he’s not going to take no for an answer.

I look anywhere but down or at him as I scramble over the sill and up onto the roof, not taking the offered hand but not slapping it away either as I might have done yesterday.

One almost-kiss and you’d think the world was turned upside-down.

           Well, two almost-kisses.

I settle into place beside him, anchoring my feet so I won’t slide down the angled roof.  It’s really not the most comfortable position, and the night air is colder up here, but now that I’m here I can see what he was talking about.  The Wood is like a quilt draped over the land and the hills roll like waves into the distance.  “Not a bad view,” I concede.

           “Told you.”

“It would be a shame if I were to push you off the roof right now.”

           “You won’t.”

           “You sure?”

           “Yes.”

           “Why?”

           “You just won’t.”

I should, just to prove him wrong. Yesterday I might have.

           “Baz?”

           “Yes?”

“Why haven’t we teamed up before?”

I give a dark laugh.  “It might have something to do with being mortal enemies.”

           “Is that what we are?”

“Well, it’s no secret that the Old Families want me to kill you.”

           “So why haven’t you?”

           “Are you getting impatient, Snow?”

“You’ve had every opportunity, but even the times that you have legitimately tried, you’ve ended up saving me.”

“I’ll make a note to stop doing that.”

           “Please don’t.”

“I doubt we’d make a very good team, Snow,” I chuckle quietly.

He looks genuinely curious.  “Why not?”

“I think there has to be a certain level of trust in a team.”

           “I trust you.”

I raise an incredulous eyebrow at him.  “I sold you out to a goblin yesterday, and now you trust me?”

           “It seems that way.”

“Maybe that’s the reason we wouldn’t make a good team, because of your horrible decision-making skills.”

Simon just laughs.  “You weren’t actually trying to kill me, and besides, look how it turned out.”

My mind jumps straight to the almost-kiss at the top of the tree and I’m suddenly grateful for the darkness hiding my blush. “What do you mean?”

“You killing that goblin,” he practically gushes, “that was incredible!”

I shrug.  “Goblins are stupid, it wasn’t exactly difficult.”

“Exactly. Imagine if we’d teamed up years ago, the Insidious Humdrum would be long gone by now.”

“How boring our lives would be.”

“We wouldn’t have to be enemies.”

I look down at my legs.  “We’d still have to be enemies.”

           “We could be unlikely friends.”

           “No we couldn’t.”

He glances at me carefully.  “Maybe not,” he agrees after a pause.

Maybe he could be alright with friends, but I don’t know if I ever could.

Fuck the Families.  Fuck the Mage.  Fuck the roles we’ve been given and the parts we have to play.  Fuck it all.  I just want you, Simon Snow.

           “Baz?”

           “Hm?”

“Why did you have to write that letter today?”

I don’t know if I’m shivering from the cold or the question, or both.  “I’ve already told you why.”

“Why couldn’t you have written it tomorrow?”

I cast him a sideways glance.  “You know that April Fool’s Day isn’t the one designated day of the year that I’m able to lie to you, right?  Saying it any other day wouldn’t make it true.”

“If it were true,” he says slowly, “today would be the perfect day to say it without the risk of being taken seriously, right?”

           I shrug carefully.  “I suppose.”

           “Baz?”

           “What?”

He looks me right in the eye.  “Did you mean it?”

I hold his gaze.  “Why are you expecting the truth?”

           “Because I trust you.”

           “That’s right, I’d forgotten.”

           He waits expectantly.

“It doesn’t matter what I say,” I sigh, “you won’t believe me.”  It’s the grave I’ve dug myself.

           “Baz?”

I don’t answer, just meet his eyes.

“Did you ever consider,” he murmurs, “even for a moment, the possibility that your letter would mean something to me?”

           I don’t speak, I can’t.

“Or that maybe my note wasn’t a prank?”

I gulp.  “The thought crossed my mind, but it was too ridiculous to entertain.”

He shifts fractionally closer but I can already feel the energy start to crackle between us.  “It’s not that ridiculous.”

           “What are you saying?”

Simon’s eyes are dark like indigo, his hair framed by the moon behind him.  “I think…”

I can’t breathe as I wait for him to finish.

Simon

I don’t know if I can say it.  Writing it down is one thing, but saying it face-to-face, and this close…

Baz’s eyes are silver, illuminated by the moon behind me.

Baz

“Do you know why I woke you from the nightmares?” he says suddenly, and I want to slap him for changing the subject.  (And then kiss his cheek.)  (And then kiss his mouth.)

“Because I was keeping you from your beauty rest?”

“Because you were scared, and… it hurt me to see you hurting like that.”

He won’t look at me again, and I want to take his chin in my hand and make him meet my eye, but I stay still and wait.

“When you had the nightmares,” he eventually continues, “you didn’t just say no a lot.”

I already know where this is going.  “What else did I say?”

           “My name.  Simon.”

Figures.  “I was afraid of that,” I nod.

“Can I ask what you were dreaming about?”

It takes a long time for me to answer.  “I had to kill you.”

           “And did you?”

Just the thought brings tears to my eyes.

           “You don’t have to…”

“Yes.  I did.” He’s silent as I take a ragged breath. “That’s why it’s my worst nightmare. I know I’ve been told all my life that I have to kill you, but if it ever really came to it, I want to think that I’d be brave enough to refuse.  But in my nightmares, I always give in.  Sometimes you kill me at the same time, and then at least I know I won’t have to carry on living in a world without you…”

“After I woke you,” he says a minute later, his voice getting quieter and quieter, “I hated myself for what I’d done to you.  I wanted to comfort you, to hold you until you fell asleep again, but I was too afraid.  When I walked away, it was like someone was ripping a piece out of me, and then I hated myself even more.  I thought the feeling would go away, but it didn’t.”  He looks me in the eye, and he looks terrified.  “It still hasn’t.”

He’s only inches away.  There’s tears in his eyes to match mine.

“I think…” Simon moves even closer, “I think I meant what I wrote.”

My heart goes quiet, but I’ve never felt more alive.

“I know,” I whisper, “that I meant what I wrote.”

It’s taking everything in me right now not to fall against him.

I don’t miss his eyes as they flicker to my mouth and back up. When he speaks it’s less than a breath. “May I…”

“Please.”

He takes a handful of my shirt and pulls me down to him.

Simon

Baz tastes like citrus and wood smoke and I’m immediately lost in the scent.  His mouth is softer than I could have imagined and I want to be gentle, to move slowly, but I can’t stop myself from opening his mouth with mine.  I feel his sigh vibrate against my chin as I deepen the kiss and oh, it’s not enough.  I want to hear every sound he has, to explore every inch of him, to stay here forever discovering.  I know right now that I’ll never get enough.

Baz

Simon kisses me like he’s starving, like he can’t get enough, yet he’s gentle.  His mouth is slow and deep, and my hand is in his curls before I even know what I’m doing, angling his head and moving slow, like we have nothing but time.  The tears are spilling over from my eyes and I can feel the moisture of his own tears on his cheeks, but we’re both kissing through our grins, giddy and desperate for more.

Simon

Breaking away from him is like pulling the plug on life support, but he stays no more than a breath away.

“Are you shaking?” I whisper.

“It’s cold up here, Simon,” he murmurs back.  “Not everyone has an internal furnace like you apparently do.”

I grin and wrap my wings around the two of us.  “Call me that again.”

He presses a gentle kiss to my mouth.  “Simon,” he breathes, and I can’t stop myself from pulling him in again.

Baz keeps whispering my name between kisses, and I keep falling more and more in love with him.
