Chapter 2

“He’s mine to hate and hurt and do with as I please, no one else’s,” You hear yourself hissing at Lady Evangeline, shoving your face forward and closing in on her personal space despite the frantic beating of her delicate fan to keep you at bay.

Her intimidated expression of growing fear (of you, you realize with a twisted satisfaction) is not what pulls you from your sudden flash of gripping fury.

It’s actually the silence beside you that shakes you free of it. Robb is silent. That never happens, Robb always has something to say in retaliation to literally any words that leave your mouth whether they pertain to him or not. You pull your face back only enough to swing your blazing gaze on Robb, whose expression holds the shape of an emotion you haven’t seen on him before.

So I’m going to attempt to answer the question I’ve been asking for the last day: “WHO IS SHE RANDY?”

Brief recap: At GDC, Gearbox presented a tech test demo to show how Unreal 4 will affect lighting, shadows, and the art style overall in Borderlands 3. It specifically addresses a lot of things in the art style that I’ve wanted to see addressed for a long time, and I’m really happy with the way the game is looking. In it, they used a “development resource” character model, one we’ve never seen before, whose face they deliberately obscure. Randy Pitchford specifically draws attention to this fact.

You can watch that here:

So… who is she, Randy?

Obviously the first answer is: “It’s just a development asset, no one in particular.” I’ve seen a lot of tech demos like this, and when the devs aren’t using characters from their upcoming game, they either use:

  • a character model from the last game (who this clearly isn’t)
  • a character designed briefly in a game’s CC (which Borderlands doesn’t have)
  • a silly-looking character specifically made for testing purposes/to be funny (which this isn’t)
  • a blank slate (either something you’d see as a default in a CC or something that’s missing textures, which, again, this isn’t)

So in all likelihood… this is a WIP design for a character in Borderlands 3. Judging by the pose, this is very likely to be a new Vault Hunter (I say this because Vault Hunters’ rest animations tend to look somewhat heroic, like this characters’, while NPCs’ rest poses look far less asymmetrical).

They show a gas station-looking thing in the trailer, which is rendered in the Borderlands art style, and Randy implies that they will likely be used in BL3′s game world. If those are going to make it into the game, why wouldn’t this character design that seems very well-made.

At the start of the video, I was fully expecting them to just re-use a character from BL2. I was expecting to see Axton or somebody. That would’ve been a pretty normal move, I mean devs do it all the time for these tech demos. But they didn’t.

So, now, here’s the second answer to this question: “She’s a new character, one of the new Vault Hunters in BL3.” I’d say there’s a good chance of that. I’m about 50/50 on this. I say there’s a good chance of this not being her final design, but as it stands, I think this most likely will be the new soldier-type class in BL3, akin to Roland, Axton, and Athena.

“But why hide her face?” Well, they don’t want to outright confirm that she’s a new character yet. Showing a character’s full design–especially the face–is a Big Move for developers. It’s VERY likely that her design isn’t done yet, not only in the armor, but in the face as well.

But still… the question remains, “why hide her face?”

Let’s take another look at her:

I see the choppy straw-blonde hair and immediately think, Janey Springs. But Janey isn’t a soldier, and this character doesn’t have Janey’s scars on her arms.

Second thought, then, is “Janey’s daughter,” which would make sense: This certainly looks like someone who would’ve been raised by Janey and Athena. But after the way BL2 ended… I don’t think they would do a timeskip that far into the future.

But what are Borderlands timeskips like?

There were, if I remember correctly, roughly five or six years between Borderlands 1 and Borderlands 2.

And who else do we know in Borderlands, specifically in Borderlands 2, who has choppy straw-blonde hair?

So, put on your tin-foil hats as we arrive at answer #3: “This is a grown-up Tiny Tina.”

Let’s say there’s another five or six year gap. Tina was 13 in Borderlands 2, that would make her 18 or 19 for Borderlands 3.

But, okay, I hear what you’re saying: “So she’s got similar hair, so what?” And, yeah. I agree.

But here’s the most damning piece of evidence:

Character artists like to assign parallels to character designs as they age, to show that they’re the same character despite how much has changed. It’s sometimes silly, but it works, and it helps keep the character feeling consistent. This soldier getup is a MASSIVE change from Tina’s BL2 design, I’ll give you that. However…

Their belts, for comparison:

It’s a silly, probably minor, probably meaningless thing. Tina had a pouch on the back of her waist with a knife stored in it, this character has a pouch on the back of her waist with a knife stored in it. That could be the world’s biggest coincidence.

This character’s even missing Tina’s trademark bunny. It’s nowhere to be seen.

Like I said, I’m still 50/50 on it being a new character, but… hey, I dunno. The character design VERY LIKELY isn’t final. Things like the star on her shoulder armor might be temporary.

And, perhaps more than anything, it makes a hell of a lot of sense to me that Tina would want to grow up to dress like Roland.

Sometimes I think it’s weird that Zenyatta is as young as he is, cause he always seems so much more mature than you’d think a 20 year old would be, but then I see his emotes and

The master of the Malkin Estate falls in love with his valet on a rainy afternoon.

Sidney Crosby, fair-faced and kind, had revealed his love for snow and ice skating as he helped to dress Evgeni, and Evgeni had selfishly followed the curve of Sidney’s lips as he spoke of stories from his childhood, when he and his sister Taylor would get into all sorts of trouble with their wet boots leaving streaks all over the floorboards and rug. He loves rainy days, when Sidney would hold his umbrella as they go out on a walk, and once they are far enough out in the countryside, Evgeni would take the umbrella from Sidney and kiss his knuckles, saying, “My dear Sidney, please let me.” Evgeni wants to suck bruises on Sidney’s unmarred skin, a necklace of promises, but he holds himself back, if only barely. He learns that Sidney sends most of the money he makes back home to his parents and his sister, in the hopes that she can marry richly instead of becoming a governess, destined for loneliness and instability.

The things I do for Love

(A: English is not my first language. Sorry for some awkward sentences.)

I know there are many discussions about Game of Thrones’ theme of power. For me, it always seemed like there is another big theme: The theme of love and what people are willing to do in the name of love. There is a huge amount of characters who do terrible things or things that go against their morale / beliefs.

Let’s start at the beginning:
Jaime Lannister pushes Bran out of the window when the boy catches him and Cersei. He does that out of love: for his sister, but also for his children who would be in grave danger if the affair becomes public. He also says the symbolic phrase „The things I do for love“. It’s a horrible act, Jaime risks/wants the death of a little boy. Later in the books/show we learn that Jaime isn’t a cruel person after all, it goes against his morale.
His next act out of love: He, a member of the Kingsguard, killed King Aerys and got his iconic nickname. That totally goes against his beliefs since we learned that Jaime really wants to be a true knight. Later it is revealed that this was his most heroic act: The king wanted to kill thousands of people. Why was Jaime doing that? Surely to save that people but more out of love for his father whom the mad king threatened as well and ordered Jamie to kill.
(Jaime also lied to his brother about whose wife Tysha, saying she was a whore. To me, that’s out of love for Tyrion: Jaime thinks it would be more hurtful for him to know that a person who really loved him was raped by his father’s men. He risks Tyrions hate if he ever get to know the truth…)

Now to his sister, Cersei Lannister. We all know Cersei loves three things: Power, Jaime and, most of all, her children. But she also loved her mother and that’s why she hates Tyrion so much and treats him horrible since the moment of his birth: He was the reason for Joannas death.
To save her children, Cersei knows no boundaries: She seduces her cousin Lancel to kill her husband (even though she loves Jaime and only him, the mirror image of herself), she ignores Joffreys brutality even against herself (and one of her most defining traits is her pride) and she blows up the Sept of Balor. That’s truly an act of revenge, but also an act to get her son Tommen back who was „in the clutches of that Margaery-bitch“.

That leads to Tommen Baratheon/Lannister, the sweet boy that killed himself out of love for his wife Margaery.

His grandfather Tywin Lannister is motivated by love, too. He, a man that honors family (and often reminds me of the Tully’s „Family, Duty, Honor“ minus the honor-part) detests his son Tyrion due to the fact that his birth killed his beloved wife. I think he wouldn’t hate him at all if Joanna had survived (even though he is a dwarf, but that seemed to be secondary for Tywin). Also he willingly risked his position of power (one thing we know Tywin is after) by leaving King’s Landing when Aerys was lusting after Joanna.

Tyrion Lannister is no exception in his family when it comes to love. He really loved Shae, so he wanted to send her away to ensure her safety (what totally goes against his own lust and distaste for responsibility). When she betrayed him he killed her (and hated himself for doing that). He killed his father, too. The man that wanted his death. For me that’s even more important since Tywin was the only parent Tyrion knew and so many of his actions were motivated by the need for his fathers acceptance. (Laugh at me but I think deep inside he really loved his father.)

Shae betrayed the man she loved when she thought he betrayed her (sending her away to be with Sansa). Her actions were out of hurt love.

Next is Robert Baratheon. It’s often said how much he loved Lyanna Stark (even though I think he only loved the image he had of her) and that’s the reason for his rash rebellion that killed thousands. But that love for Lyanna had even more consequences: he whispered her name in his wedding night what leads to Cersei hating him (she once told Ned that she could have loved Robert if he had not loved his dead sister) and never having a true born child. In my opinion, that poisons his relationship worth his children, too. I really can’t remember a scene with Robert showing affection for one of his „children“ (even Myrcella or Tommen who are so easy to love). They all remind him of Cersei, who simply isn’t Lyanna.

That leads to Lyanna Stark herself. Little is confirmed about the real reasons behind her leaving Winterfell with Rhaegar, but there are lots of speculations. I for one think that she wasn’t raped by him but really was in love with the prince and feared a marriage with Robert. That love led to Roberts Rebellion and the death of her father and (beloved) brother Brandon. And her own as well as Rhaegars.

Rhaegar Targaryen betrayed his wife and two children out of love for Lyanna, risking the whole kingdom (though I’m not sure if he really loved her or if she only was a part of the prophecy he obsessed about).

Eddard Stark, Mr. Honorable himself, lied to his best friend Robert and his wife Catelyn out of love for his sister Lyanna: He vowed to save her son with Rhaegar. Thereby he risked his own marriage (with the woman he later truly adored). He declared himself a cheater. He also lied to Jon about his mother and let the boy grow up with the shame of being a bastard, causing some sort of trauma.
Out of love for his daughter Sansa, Ned willingly swallows his honor (one of the things he values the most).

Catelyn Stark, a woman that values family and her children above all else, is horrible towards Jon Snow, an innocent child himself. That’s out of love for Ned, she thinks he loved the bastards mother more than herself. Maybe if Ned ever said Jon’s mother was never important to him, Cat could have treat Jon like one of her own children - or at least with some friendliness.
Out of love for her daughters, Cat betrays her son Robb by releasing Jaime Lannister, a man she truly detestes.

Edmure Tully surrendered Riverrun, his home, and risked the hate of his uncle and his men to save his son (a babe he’s never seen before, by a wife whose family murdered his). Putting family above duty and honor.

Their sister Lysa Arryn is another great/horrible example. Out of love for Petyr, she poisoned her husband and father of her son, leading to the events of A Game of Thrones. She also threatens her niece Sansa to the part of trying to kill her out of jealousy when she thinks that Petyr loves the girl.

Petyr Baelish is only motivated by one thing: the love for Catelyn Tully. As a young boy he dared to challenge Brandon Stark, knowing he could never win (and Petyr is normally all but irrational). He fakes love for Lysa, betrays Eddard and kills a substantial number of persons, all to get Catelyn. It is irrelevant how many people will suffer for his love. When he can’t have Cat anymore, he takes her young daughter Sansa as replacement.

Sansa Stark revealed her fathers plans out of „love“ for Joffrey. Out of love for her father, Sansa wrote a letter (forced by Cersei) to Robb and later she tries do kill Joffrey, risking her own death.
Sansa „betrays“ Jon as well, when she wrote that letter asking Littlefinger for help. That was out of love, too: Love for Jon whom she wants to protect in the upcoming battle he can’t win (and out of love for Rickon, but she doubts they will get their little brother back alive).

Arya Stark decides to become an assassin to avenge the death of her beloved father, mother and brothers. Nobody can tell me that this doesn’t goes against the morale of a young, prepubescent girl. (And Arya sends her beloved direwoblf Nymeria away to save her from Joffrey.)

Robb Stark risks all his family fights for and all he has learned out of love for Talisa/Jeyne Westerling. That leads to his own, his mothers, his direwolfs and most of his mens death (as well as the death of Talisa and their unborn child in the show) and the end of a war he probably could have won.

Ellaria Sand, a woman that loves her children and grew up in a country known for treating girls well (just like Oberyn said), killed Myrcella, an innocent girl, out of love for her dead lover.

Out of love for Bran, Summer willingly gives his own life.

Just like out of love for Drogo and her child, D*enerys is willing to end her own life by burning herself. She sees no sense in her life.

And don’t forget Jorah Mormont who turned slave trader do hold his beloved wife Lynesse Hightower and later gave up his only chance to return home due to his love for D*ny.

But there is a positive example, too:
Out of love for Gilly, Samwell Tarly, a real coward up to this point, figths and kills a White Wanderer. He also stands up against his own father, too. (All talk about the one and only, really true love in agot is that of Ned and Cat, but what about Sam and Gilly? They trust each other, they aren’t related or secretly lust after another person and never tried do kill the other. There is no angst between them. They are only two people deeply in love. A love that’s only threatened by Sams position as a member of the Night’s Watch, but that isn’t a real threat to them. For me, they are my one truly happy pairing at the time.)

I’m pretty sure there are tons of other examples, but that are the only ones I remember on the fly.

What does all of that mean for Jonsa?

I highly support the theory that Jon Snow will play D*enerys. And why will he do that, Mr. Honorable Jr. himself? Something that goes against his morale? (Something he hated himself for doing to Ygritte?)
Well, out of love: for the North, his people and his family. Nothing is more important to Jon than saving his people, especially Sansa. She was already once the reason to go against his beliefs: Jon pledges he would never fight again, only to do it for Sansa when she asks for it (and he reads that letter from Ramsay).

Well, that are only my thoughts and I would love to hear what you think about it. Maybe I’m totally delusional. ;)

Ace Valentine Story

About a year and a half ago, I was on Omegle (Yes, that site where they connect you with random strangers and let you chat) and I met this person who did an RP (roleplay, fandom, obviously) with me. It went pretty well, so we decided to start doing another, and we began doing it long-term, first on twitter dm, and then on tumblr. We started chatting a bit and I felt we had a sort of connection, which led to us becoming close friends.

After a while (not sure whether months or weeks,) they disappeared off tumblr for a few days and I had no idea what happened to them. When they returned a few day later, I found out that they had attempted suicide. I don’t want to say too much because I know they’re sensitive about this, but their life was really rough at that point, and they had depression and other issues and they were very, very alone in it all. Of course, being a human who understands the sanctity of life, I was concerned, and as any decent person would be, I didn’t want someone to take their own life. So, I tried my best to help them, to talk to them and convince them there was something worth living for.

It wasn’t easy. Dealing with a person going through depression and trying to help them when you’re on an entirely different continent isn’t easy. But they slowly opened up to me and I’m very proud of them for letting someone in in their situation. At some point along the way, I just kind of realized that I cared for them very much. Deeper than a friendship, but I had no idea what it was at that time. That was also around the time when I realized I was ace and I found out about my romantic orientation. But I didn’t realize my feelings for them for what they were yet.

It all kinda just came out one day (a fucking leap day, to be exact) when we were doing those ask things  on tumblr where you ask people who their tumblr crush is and stuff like that. Well, we asked each other the same thing, and… it turned out we were each other’s tumblr crushes. And when we talked about it a bit more, it turned out we actually liked each other, not just our blogs and stuff. And it hit me like a brick wall. So I did the logical next step and asked them to be my partner. Don’t ask me what compelled me to do it, I just felt like I wanted to, like it was the perfect time and that it made total sense. I mean, I liked them, they liked me, why the fuck not? So I asked. And they said yes.

We worked out the whole me-being-ace thing and they were really cool with it, and I really appreciate that. I feel very lucky that I could find someone who is accepting of who I am, and they are so much more than I could have ever asked for in a partner.

So… yeah. I fell in love online with someone whose real name I didn’t even know until we were actually in a relationship, whose face I’d hadn’t even seen until a short while before I’d asked them, someone I had met literally by chance.

And that’s the story of my online relationship with my partner @onmywaytofandomhell! Happy Valentine’s to all the aces out there!

ngl im tired of those posts where its like “all clan cats still kinda make fun of brightheart or something bc they think her scars are weird looking”

and like….while maybe a new apprentice whose never seen her before may be like “wow” about her face, i feel like??? brightheart is one of the warriors that all clans respect the most. they see that she’s blind and deaf on one side, with injuries that would cause some to retire bc of the severity of them, but she’s one of the best warriors in thunderclan

like brightheart. probably has the respect of almost all clan cats. no one makes fun of her bc the clans dont make fun of disabilities, those cats r strong and brightheart is a prime example of it. everyone probably asks her for tips and even shadowclan cats will move to make room for her at a gathering bc she’s just so cool and they think she’s so wise.

“I’m planning on going on a quest with your High Lord”.
“What kind of quest?”, she asked, clearly interested.
“The quest is to find someone. Someone whose power is greater than any of us. I think you can understand what I mean", I said to her as I held her stare.

Amren just kept looking at me. No sign of any emotion or expression to assure me of anything. Her face was complete stone.

“Who are you looking for?”, she asked in a hushed voice.

I didn’t say anything.
I just unhid the amulet I was wearing and showed it to her.
Her eyes went wide as she stared at my amulet. It was a golden circle that was hollowed out by a smaller circle, reminiscent of a solar eclipse, and in that smaller circle, there was a silver eye. The eye had a green emerald as an iris, and a piece of black diamond as the pupil.
Amren didn’t say a thing. She was speechless by the sight of the amulet.
I was too, the first time I laid my eyes on it.

“Amren?”, asked the High Lord, clearly confused by Amren’s stare and surprise.

She blinked and looked at me.

“Where did you-?”, she started to ask, but I interrupted her.
“The where and how is not relevant right now. The important thing here is what we can do with it. You know it can be done, but we have to do it now, before it’s too late”, I said, sounding maybe a little desperate, but we didn’t have time to loose.

Not when I was being hunted.
Amren clenched her jaw and looked at the amulet once more.
My neck felt exposed as I felt the gaze of all of them in the amulet.

“Did anyone saw you arrive?”, she asked.
“No one but your circle”, I answered.

We were all quiet for a while, and then:

“Amren?”, asked the High Lord once again, clearly a lot more confused by our vague conversation.

She stopped staring at the amulet and held the High Lord’s gaze.

“You can trust her, Rhysand. At least for now”, she said, still a bit shocked.
“But we don’t-”, Amren interrupted him.
“There is no time to waste. You have to get her to a safe location. It’s too dangerous to have her here”, she told him.

Rhysand looked at her. They had one of those silent conversations people who knew each other quite well had. I wondered what they were thinking…
Their silent conversation seemed to end, because the High Lord looked at me and, as he extended his hand towards me, said:

“Let’s go then”.

“Welcome to Velaris”, the High Lord of The Night Court told me as we winnowed to a city whose existence I’d only ever heard of three months ago.

It was beautiful.
So beautiful I could cry.
We had landed on a High rise tower from where we could admire the vast and beautiful city before us. There were gorgeous buildings whose architecture was something I’d never seen before. It was such an interesting and intricate architecture, with all those tiny details and ornamentations. There were houses, stores, restaurants, even bookstores. The streets were beautifully lightened as well, making it easier to appreciate the elegant pattern at night. People were walking on those streets, laughing with their children and just- just being happy.
It was a sight I hadn’t seen for a long while.
And the sky… Cauldron save me.
Had I’d been alone in that place, I would’ve been on my knees crying.
It was everything I’d dreamed my perfect city would look like.
There was even a rainbow road in the distance.
I truly felt like crying. I’d never seen such a bewitching city in all of my existence, and that was a big thing considering that I’d been to all of the other courts before Under The Mountain happened.
How did such a beautiful and perfect city even existed?

“Shall we?”, asked the High Lord, as he pointed to the entrance of the tower.

I nodded, wishing I had more time to admire this unbelievably perfect city.
He just stared at me and started walking inside.
I followed the High Lord inside. There was a long table in the exquisitely decorated room, which was clearly used for meetings or more intimate court matters. The High Lord’s inner circle took a seat, so I did too.
They stared at me, waiting for my explanation.
I stared back at each one of them, even at The Morrigan, whose presence startled me a bit. The Illyrian warriors looked at me with precaution, clearly they didn’t trust me at all, which was maybe a smart move on their part. Amren just nodded at me, waiting for me to say the words that were obvious for both of us, but not for the rest of them.

“I’m sorry to tell you this, but this is not a quest for any of you to make”, I explained as they started to talk over each other.
“Why?”, asked The Morrigan.
“Why won’t you just tell us what you came here for?”, said the Illyrian warrior with the shadows.
“Rhysand, you can’t be serious”, said the other Illyrian warrior.

It shocked me at first how they addressed their High Lord, but I knew from the start that he was different from the rest, so I just stared at him. He was looking at Amren, who just nodded at him.

“Leave”, the High Lord ordered them.

They looked at him, confused, but followed his order and left.

“Don’t kill her just yet”, Amren told the High Lord.

Then she glanced at me one last time and left.
Suddenly the room felt deserted, bigger and more intimidating.
I was once more alone with the High Lord of The Night Court.

“So, this story of yours”, he said as he magically appeared two wine glasses again. One for him, one for me “what does it have to do with resurrecting… her?”.

He was seated across from me, which made me had a clear sight of his reactions.
He couldn’t even say her name. If that was painful to me, I couldn’t even imagine how painful it was for him. Except I already knew, because I had been inside his mind.
I just hoped he believed the story I was about to tell him.

diabolik lovers is the most heterosexual fandom ive ever been in

it’s such a huge leap from like every other fandom im in, like in the lo.ve live fandom if i made a post like “i think umi is straight” (i dont actually think that bc im not an idiot, clearly umi is gay) then ppl would be like “um what the fuck is this person talking about” u know??? this fandom is like the exact opposite, u headcanon a character as gay and u get 10 passive-aggressive anons and someone whose blog you’ve never seen before starts vaguing about u

the DL fandom is so hetero that some people have a hard time admitting that two male characters like each other platonically. someone told me n my friend that we were going to hell because we’re wlw. I HAVE to rub my little bisexual hands all over this fandom, for its own good

guys the blog @/eva- -noelle is reposting gifs from various gifmakers in the skam fandom. if you spot edits/gifs that you can recognise that are from various gifmakers whose posts you’ve seen before based on colouring/font use etc, please link them to it so that those posts which contain the reposted gifs/edits can be reported, because that blog is not giving credit at all, and instead are saying how “they’ve spent all afternoon making edits”, when in fact, all they’ve been doing is stealing them.

Imagine Joseph introducing you to his Church community

It’s your first bake-sale as a couple and you are nervous. You didn’t ask him whether he wanted to make things official beforehand, so you don’t know how to behave and that is driving you up the wall. Christie is walking alongside you as you carry the last tray of brownies to your table, then she’s running off, probably to go see her mother. Joseph and Mary separated on very good terms and they didn’t make a secret out of their divorce; people know. You sit down next to Joseph and lean back in your chair. There are a lot of people here today: Brian and Daisy, Craig and his twins, River securely strapped to his chest; many that don’t live in your cul-de-sac, but you are now able to recognise because you’ve seen them before.

Your first customer is a lady you have seen before, but whose name you don’t know. Joseph, however, does, and that doesn’t surprise you at all. He stands up and rounds the table, pulling the lady into a hug.
“Martha, how nice to see you again.”
“Hello Joseph! May I say, you look a lot better now that, you know.”

And he really does. His smile finally reaches his eyes. He looks younger, less stressed, like a weight has been lifted off his shoulders. The divorce was good for him; Mary too. You scan the area and find her standing in front of her table, sipping on grape juice. She toasts once she catches your eyes and you smile at her. Distracted like that, you barely catch that someone says your name. You turn your head.
Joseph gives you that breath-taking smile of his, the one that never fails to make you stare, and gestures towards you. “Have you met Y/N yet? He’s my boyfriend.”

You don’t know who looks more surprised: Martha or you. It wasn’t like you expected Joseph to repudiate you. You just thought he would introduce you as a friend, his neighbour, something neutral and easy. He winks at you and you blush. Martha congratulates him and asks you a few questions, before buying a handful of brownies and leaving. Joseph sits down next to you again and grins. You’re sure your face is red like a tomato by now.

Every time a new person walks up to the table, he repeats his introductions. Every time, without a fail, he would smile so brightly he rivalled the sun. There is not a trace of hesitation, nothing that would hint at him being uncertain; if anything, he looks proud. The day goes by so quickly, you’re surprised to see everyone pack up and get ready to leave. You stand up and turn to follow their example, but you collide with a firm chest. Strong arms are wrapped around your waist and Joseph leans down to kiss your cheek. He’s still smiling like that.
“You looked surprised when I introduced you as my boyfriend.”
“I didn’t…” You trail off and avert your gaze.
He doesn’t need your explanation, it seems. Joseph kisses you again and gives your sides a gentle squeeze. “I want the whole world to know I love you, Y/N. The bake-sale seems like a good start for that.”
You laugh and wrap your arms around him in return, pulling him close against you. By tomorrow, the whole town would know about you two. Word travelled fast, especially in such a small and tightly-knit community like Maple Bay. You lean in for a kiss that only ends when Mary tells you to get a room.

Hello. I’m sorry this took a while, and for all the other prompts I haven’t gotten to yet! And that I can’t write anything besides these sad, weird, nonsense character studies. You deserve better, anon.

I want to tell you this story without having to confess anything.

He’s puzzled through it again and again, and still hasn’t come up with an answer. How to say “you’re different” or at least “Richard, I thought you would be different” without having to explain the way things have been in the past. How to say “I didn’t want to do something like that again” without wading back into the depths where he’d been in the first place.

The fake users, Richard knows about. But what of all the times before that? The secrets Richard doesn’t know yet. The way Jared’s own morality expands and contracts to match his surroundings. The parts of himself he thought he’d left behind when he left Hooli, and before that, and before that, and before that.

Malleability, he thinks, recalled from an old science textbook. The ability of a substance to deform under stress.

The truth is Jared will do - has done - nearly anything for attention. For scraps of affection. For the feeling of being needed, no matter how fleeting a fraud.

He wonders, sometimes, if Richard knows this. Richard can turn it on when he wants to. He knows exactly which buttons to push to make Jared feel guilty, and needed, and wanted, the way Jared likes to be told secrets, likes to feel important to someone, that sick and pathetic and pleasurable feeling, twisting him up inside.

Your faith made all this possible.

Everybody wins, Jared.

You still believe that, right?

He’s seen it in others’ eyes before: the uncle whose affection turned sinister, the would-be corporate mentors who always wanted something in return. It is a vicious, blinding-light sort of attention, so strong it could almost be mistaken for love. If he squinted, if he squinted. If he cared little enough about himself to consider it good enough.

“Richard,” he says, “I thought you would be different. I thought we would be different,” and Richard promises him for what feels like the hundredth time that they will be. Just like with Gavin Belson, he feels doomed to watch his heroes fall.

When Jared protests too much, when all other options feel exhausted, Richard will try to shut him up by kissing him, and Jared hates himself for how he still can’t help it. He hates himself for how well it works.

A new story for my Fairy Tail Tales collection.
This one features Mirajane, Cana and Freed in a modern-day bar setting ~ I hope you’ll enjoy it!

Author’s Note:

Somebody asked me to write more Mira x Freed (or at least I decided to take their question that way), so I picked a prompt at random and got this (the prompt is the title). It was supposed to be a one-shot. We’ll see.

Close Your Eyes and Hold Out Your Hands

“Close your eyes and hold out your hands.”

How many times had Mirajane said that to others? Countless times to her younger brother and sister (set aside the ache at the memory of losing Lisanna). Many times with friends and coworkers. It hadn’t occurred to her before, but she had almost always been the one giving the instructions. She eyed the green-haired man across the bar from her dubiously.

“I’m working right now, Freed,” she said hesitantly, not quite liking to tell him that she didn’t know what to make of him yet, which meant that she was reluctant to close her eyes. It was unlike her to be so hesitant with a patron once they had been coming into the bar for a few weeks. On the rare occasions that she really didn’t like somebody, the person would find the service poor and the company surly, and go off in search of a more convivial place to eat and drink.

“Ms. Alberona,” Freed said to the woman who was nursing a dark drink a couple of seats down, “will you watch me to ensure fair play?”

“Oh?” Cana Alberona looked up from contemplating liquor in front of her. She turned on her bar stool, crossing one well-shaped, muscular leg over the other and letting a sandal dangle from one foot. She’d seen the man called Freed—whose last name escaped her—before, but she hadn’t realized that he was interested in Mira. That was surprising. Cana kept a close eye on Mira and acted as the bar’s unofficial bouncer whenever Mira’s brother Elfman wasn’t around.

“Ms. Strauss is concerned that I will do something inappropriate if she closes her eyes, I think.”

Cana snorted. “I’d like to see you try!”

“Would you?” The man gave her an appraising sort of look, and Cana felt a strange desire to shiver. That was ridiculous. Freed was a reasonably tall man, and looked very fit, but the neat, summer-weight jacket and too-new black jeans argued against the kind of power it would take to make even a dent on Magnolia’s reigning bare-knuckles champion (men and women). Cana’s eyes narrowed.

“Do you fight?” she asked peremptorily.

“Only when I must.” The man shrugged, dismissing the topic, and returned to his initial question. “I would like to give a small gift to Ms. Strauss, but rules are rules. I thought that if you were watching, Ms. Alberona, then Ms. Strauss would be more amenable to closing her eyes.”

“Are you serious?”

“About which part?”

“You know she’s nervous, but you want her to close her eyes anyway just because of some kids’ game? You know: ‘Open your hands and close your eyes and you will get a nice surprise!’ People learned not to play games with me a long time ago.”

Freed shook his head. “This isn’t a game.” He smiled at Mirajane, and Cana saw his expression soften, going from cool and impersonal to gentle and admiring. And yet, there was a weird feel to it that Cana couldn’t put her finger on. “Well, Ms. Strauss?” the man said quietly to Mira.

Mirajane had been following the rather odd conversation in silence, her usual forthright cheerfulness dimmed by the uneasy discomfort that seemed to come over her whenever the green-haired man was around. There was something about him that called to her, but she had no idea why. Called to her and made her nervous, for no discernable reason. Nevertheless, she had a job to do and she was damned if she’d let anyone make her twitchy like this in her own bar.

“Oh, sure. It’s not a problem, especially with Cana here.” Mira smiled, seeming to shrug off any apprehension she’d been feeling. “Besides, rules are rules and I like gifts!” She closed her eyes and reached her hands across the bar.

Behind the Mask

A/N: Look! I’m not dead! I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to get something out. Hopefully this makes up for it! This is set in the GTA V world, by the way.

Pairing: Ryan/Reader

Rating: NC-17

Words: 5,807 (whoa)

Warning: Smut, violence, some blood, injuries, and criminal activity.

It all started out with just a normal day. You woke up this morning, you ate your breakfast, you worked at your mechanic shop. However, a crew of men asking you to fix their cars for free isn’t exactly something you thought you’d be doing today.

okay you and moon are making me curious about this Critical Roll show. Any advice for someone whose never seen it before I do anything?

And to bear in mind that how it starts isn’t necessarily indicative of how it will eventually run. It’s a bit bumpy to start, as everyone tries to figure out how the hell to even do this thing. While all the people involved are performers in some way or another, they’re not used to bringing this private game public, and it takes them a little while to find their feet.

Also that, if you want to watch the whole thing, THIS IS A TIME COMMITMENT. Each episode clocks in around four hours (or more), and they’re sitting at about ninety episodes right now, I think. (The last I downloaded was Ep 88, and that was about six weeks ago.) Hubby and I have been watching since November? Maybe October. Not constantly, but with some fair amount of regularity, and we’re only right this second on Ep 65.

Not that you HAVE to watch them all, I’m sure. I can’t imagine there aren’t write-ups you can find online that will let you read summaries of episodes and save yourself a lot of time. But I’m me, and so I can’t do that. And I don’t even know that I’d recommend it. Watching the characters and storylines (and the players, as well) slowly change and develop and evolve (or not) is a huge part of what makes it so engrossing, I think.

Otherwise, I don’t think there’s anything you need to know! It’s a group of friends and voice actors playing D&D, modified from their personal two or three year old Pathfinder game with some homebrew rules and classes and stuff. If you don’t know D&D or other tabletop roleplaying game, there’s nothing you can’t pick up as you watch, I don’t think.

If you choose to watch Critical Role, let me know what you think! I’ve come to really love all the characters and am completely invested in their stories at this point. It’s easily one of my favourite things.

The first episode is here, linking to it on YouTube so you don’t get any possible spoilers on the Geek & Sundry page. The YouTube playlist of all the episodes is here.
