who love being a woman

Lame adaptations and sequels are always like, “how can Mina go back to her stifling Victorian marriage after her experience with the dark, seductive Dracula??”

Meanwhile, Mina marries her best friend, who she’s known since they were children, who she share common interests with, they build a home together, work as partners, make immense sacrifices for each other, support each other through their traumas.

Guys, a marriage isn’t stifling and restrictive just because two people… get along, I guess?

fave blacklist scenes as i remember them + soft red & lizzy

i don’t think straight people will ever truly understand why many of us gay people LOVE being gay and why we would not change ourselves for the world. even the most progressive straight people, deep down, they pity us. they think we’d probably rather be straight if we could. “progressive” people always make the argument that “being gay isn’t a choice, because who would ever choose to be gay??” guess what: i didn’t choose to be gay, but i would. they’ll never understand that once we’re able to accept ourselves and find a safe community, being gay feels amazing. i love being a woman who loves women. and it’s only because of them that i’ve ever had to even think about questioning that.

Honestly I am so upset that all they did with sugilite was make her destructive. Why couldn’t we have some of nicki’s personality, when her actual personality is so much closer to what amethyst/garnet as a fusion should have been?

For example, I would have loved to have seen sugilite be super bubble gum sweet to steven because of how much garnet and amethyst love and care about steven. Why would they possibly hurt him? Why would that make any sense at all, even for the direction that the show was going. the sardonyx arc still could have happened because of nicki’s show persona of just being a super strong iconic woman of color who loves being herself

That whole thing could have been that sugilite doesn’t fuse much because garnet and amethyst love each other so much and feel so much stronger together around pearl that they don’t want to unfuse. They love being sugilite because sugilite is a wonderful fusion to be. It didn’t have to be “they’re too volatile and destructive” when even malachite wasn’t that destructive.

Literally it is absolutely abhorrent that they made sugilite more destructive than malachite when it would have been so easy to have garnet or amethyst say something like “we don’t fuse often because we love our fusion too much, and we are more useful to the crystal gems as individuals” rather than shelf another black coded gem for being too “violent”

the thing about being a young woman is that they will take everything from you. and i mean everything. and they will make it about them. your makeup, your clothes, how much you eat. your attitude, your hairstyle, your gym routine. they will take your driving and your train stations and your video games. your sexuality as sexy, your gender identity as a fetish, your cooking. your tv shows and your high heels and every harmless thing.

if they cannot eat it, if it does not satisfy them, it will be an immediate shame. they cannot control how much you put food into your body, so it is seen as disgusting. your love of starbucks is your vapid need, your comfortable boots are symbols of your inherent stupidity. your fake nails, your body’s natural cycles, the hair on you. bath bombs, pink, the low singing of women talking about depression. your crazy, your hyper, your laughter, your loud, your excited, your passions. the things which are yours, that do not belong to them, that cannot be taken and devoured like flower petals, cannot be sucked dry until the wilt forms in you.

do not satisfy them. let them starve. let them shy from the sin of you, the unfettered sinfulness of loving taking up space.

Let’s talk about Whitney Houston the conduit.

When I say I want to be a conduit of opportunity, Whitney Elizabeth Houston is one of the gold standards to me of creating and opening doors for other performers.

This is the woman who declined performing the role of Cinderella as was originally offered, promoting Brandy for the role in her place. The woman who could have done another fire solo soundtrack for Waiting To Exhale, but brought on over fourteen additional artists to perform tracks (many of which became hits and quiet storm staples). As a filmmaker she produced The Princess Diaries films, the Sparkle remake, and - yes, hunty - Cheetah Girls 1&2. #strutlikeyoumeanit

In 1999 she helped Mary J. Blige’s explosion into the mainstream stratosphere by bringing her onstage as a special guest during Vh1 Divas Live ‘99 - still a record-breaking broadcast that is a large reason Mary became a household name outside of the hip hop and R&B audience. In the studio and on stages she would pass the mic to Monica, Kelly Price, Karen Clark Sheard, and others, an unabashed fan of vocals and technique.

This was a woman who loved being a woman, who loved being Black, and, despite mounting obstacles in her personal life, still promoted quality entertainers and produced quality content that showed positive images of other women and other Black people AND other Black women. Who can forget Raven-Symoné (back when we didn’t have the problems we do now) dropping and posing in heels and skintights while weighing more than her Cheetah peers and the film allowed her to be thought of as driven, desirable and accessible as a contemporary lead who was not Hollywood conventional - something we didn’t really get again until Annalise Keating showed up on our screens two years ago.

Too often she’s been reduced to her voice or her issues. Here’s to just another facet of an American Black Diamond. Here’s to Whitney the conduit. Black history is world history. Salute.

Nomi Marks is one of the most amazing persons we have on screen. Not only has she gone through a lot, she is the most brave woman you’ll ever meet! Born as a male in a woman body Nomi learned that family does  not always mean by blood.

She is strong, opinionated, kind and a beak of sunshine. Behind the keyboard she is incredible as a hacker. She’s not afraid of showing people who she is and not afraid of speaking her mind. She is trustworthy, incredibly supportive and above all a fantastic person.

I’m so glad I get to love girls girls are so good and to think that straight girls exist?? girls who aren’t completely in love with women??? unreal I’m so glad I get to love girls being a woman who loves other women is a blessing not everybody can live a life surrounded by women but us wlw can and isn’t that just a wonderful thought that we don’t need men for anything and can be with women for the rest of our lives

Do not fall in love with woman who reads, who feels too much, who writes. Do not fall in love with woman who is educated, charming, crazy. Do not fall in love with woman who thinks and who knows how to fly, who is sure of herself. Do not fall in love with woman who laughs or cries during making love, who knows how to transform her body into a soul and absolutely do not fall in love with woman who adores poetry (because those kind of women are the most dangerous ones). Avoid a woman who can contemplate about painting for hours and cannot live without music. Do not fall in love with woman who is interested in politics, who is a rebel and who feels tremendous horror when injustice is made. Do not fall in love with woman who does not watch television and whose face and body is not the only proof of her beauty. Do not fall in love with woman who is strong, brilliant, sarcastic. You will not like being in love with such woman, because whether she stays with you or not, whether she will love you or not, from that kind of woman there is no turning back.

I would like to be known as an intelligent woman, a courageous woman, a loving woman, a woman who teaches by being.

But I mean, god fucking bless Laura Bailey for being a woman who clearly loves the hell out of both romance and D&D and doesn’t see any reason why she can’t combine them, because she and her friends are telling themselves a story and she deserves just as much of her own favorite type of story in the mix as anyone else does. Because it’s a lovely, public confirmation that someone like me can belong in the D&D world just as much as anyone else, that D&D/RPGs are exactly whatever you want them to be, and that there’s no one right way to play this game or tell these stories. I am so often left to feel a little bit on the outside of SFF geek culture, because my primary literary loyalty is to the romance genre, and even those people in SFF who defend romance usually do so because it makes money, not because they see any value in the genre itself. And gaming is SUCH a toxic subculture in SFF for women who don’t pull the “I’m not like other girls” bullshit, so it’s really amazing to have this now-popular D&D show that’s letting romance be one of the major ongoing storylines, where it’s just one part of what’s happening with the female character in question - but yet, something she’s allowed to be excited and enthusiastic about without anyone in-game or on-screen shaming her for it.

I just have a lot of feelings about feeling welcome in SFF circles as a romance fan, and how much I love Laura for being utterly unapologetic for what she wants in this storyline. I adore her for it.
