who inspired it

anonymous asked:

If London was a person, what would she be like?

I love this question.

To me, London is exciting, London wears what she wants, when she wants it. She accepts everyone regardless of who they are or what they look like, and she’s safe in the most adventurous of ways, and adventurous in the safest of ways. She makes you feel like you could do anything, without it being scary or overwhelming, and she doesn’t push you out of your comfort zone, but she makes you want to get out of it on your own. She’s the kind of person that stories are written about, who endless people get inspired by, and not in a cliche way - in her own, unique way. Everyone looks at her differently, if everyone wrote a story about her, every single one would be different but beautiful, and she means a great deal to a lot of people in a lot of different ways.

London is adventure, and she’s comfort, and she’s knowing that no matter what, there will be something good on the horizon always. She’s light in the darkness, hope when you feel lost. She’s drinks at nights in your favourite place. London is the kind of person everyone would want to be friends with, but no one resents.

She’d be lovely.

So like? These were drawn maybe less than a year apart??? And I’m?? So proud of myself??? I never thought my art would reach this point? I never thought I’d improve and I felt like my art was going no where?
I remember when I started actually trying to improve my art when I was about 13/14 and thinking I’d never be as good as the artists who were my inspirations at the time. But now I’m 16 and seeing how far I’ve gotten from when I was 15 is so nice??

catch me spending my entire day thinking about that anon who said im inspiring

on: attitudes towards magic

It’s difficult making a hero whose personality doesn’t infuriate you from tendencies to drop into bad writing but who is also not too generalized or ideal. Sometimes i feel Irelia can drop into this, so I went into the archive of TV tropes and pulled out a couple of characteristics that I think describe her well.

Irelia is a combination of a Lady of War and a Fettered individual. I try not to focus on the labels too specifically but basically I perceive her as a strong, elegant character that can fight very well, yet her source of strength comes from a strong devotion to her country and its notions of balance. (Contrast this to Akali, whose appearance of elegance is more tried to the secrecy of ninja archetypes and beliefs rooted in actual balance, a midpoint between ‘good’ and ‘evil’ rather than Irelia’s interpretation of balance equaling harmony and prosperity.) Irelia is an inspiring character who uses her strict adherence to ideals to encourage others rather than to limit them, which is important in allowing her to fulfill the role of a hero.

Still, keeping herself to a strict moral code makes things very limiting. Irelia will not take a life if she sees any other alternative - I think that quality explains itself in terms of exploitable opportunities. And while she says she loves Ionia most, she finds herself erring on the side of people close to her. If it meant between choosing her country or Karma, she’d probably choose Karma. Her relationship with Syndra, then, in some verses, can prove extremely disastrous.

Until now, her enemies are also almost unanimously self-proclaimed enemies of the state: Zed, Jhin, Syndra. But the existence of vastaya as those who seek to liberate magic can prove to be people that Irelia might oppose, yet the general public might not. Irelia follows the tradition of Ionia - restrain magic that you cannot understand, so she cooperates with institutes like the Glyphall that document lawful uses of magic. I can’t imagine the vastaya are pleased with this, since their magic is more naturally drawn from the land and thus ‘wilder’ than the magic most mages use.

But if you tried to convince irelia that primal magic isn’t bad, it can be used for so many useful things, she’d just shake her head and say: there’s a reason that the vastaya and the humans drew apart.

For years mental health professionals taught people that they could be psychologically healthy without social support, that ‘unless you love yourself, no one else will love you’ …The truth is, you cannot love yourself unless you have been loved and are loved. The capacity to love cannot be built in isolation.
—  Bruce D. Perry, The Boy Who Was Raised as a Dog
Be yourself. No, not the person that everyone expects you to be. No, not the one that you are pressured into being. But your TRUE self. Only you know who this individual is, so meet them, greet them, and stay close to them.
