who does that and doesn't say sorry

anonymous asked:

Went out with this girl last night, and everything was going amazing till she found out I was bi. She flipped complete shit, saying I'm a liar who just doesn't want to admit I'm a lesbian to keep my options open??? Then left me to foot the bill at the bar. Guess I'll wear a bi flag next time just so that it's clear from the get go

what the fuck why are people complete shits. This is what Bi erasure and the lack of LGBT+ education does. Creates unsafe atmospheres for Bi people in supposed safe spaces. Sorry you went through that. You’re too good for her and skirted a huge future problem anyway

You know what doesn't fit?

Oliver being sorry for a woman who used him and posed threat to his entire team on losing her job and yet…

We never seen Oliver be sorry on screen when Felicity lost her job as
-the IT girl
-his EA
-the VP
-the CEO

That just DOES NOT fit.

I’m not saying it’s a character development issue (because I’m sure he was sorry OFF SCREEN) - yet it seems like that when we’re not shown his reaction to something like this repeatedly on screen and then suddenly shown the same for a random female love interest with no impact on the plot whatsoever.

As I said, DOES NOT FIT.

Even when it doesn’t seem like it, Rose always listens to even the most trivial things the Doctor says.

  • it is easier than you would think, to love someone and doubt them
    • (it is harder too, but that is the way of love)
  • here is the trick with doubt: it is a creeping thing
    • she knows; she has known it all her life; she has lived with it and made it her own so that it makes its home within her, a clawing thing around her heart that speaks with her father’s voice, and she has never been able to wholly drown out its whispers
      • she wonders, sometimes, if her brother feels it too
        • (she thinks he must)
        • (she hopes he does, so that she will not be alone)
  • she does not mean it. (she does not mean many things, but they still are; she is no great warrior or mage to shape and change the world)
    • (that is what she does, that is what she is, but vex is not her, vex cannot be her, vex is––)
  • vex, she said once, I’m kinda getting mixed signals here
    • don’t worry about it, darling, vex replied, and gifted a smile and a wink, and while she crowed her joy to the heavens vex left, sought out solitude and certainty and found neither, sat with only the churning circle of her thoughts for company
      • (they are too similar, she thinks, round and round in circles, a mantra, and she presses her hand to her ears but still she thinks it, too similar too similar too similar)
    • vex sees all she is, and all she is not, and one is love and the other is please and the chasm of what is and what could be eats away at her
      • mixed signals is certainly one word for it
  • here is the paradox of doubt: you do not believe, and you are built of faith
    • prove me wrong, she pleads, and she waits, and she hopes. and she swallows her doubt until it chokes her, vines around words unvoiced, because she drowns already in her own hopelessness and vex cannot add to that, will not add to that
      • it is so hard, so damn hard, to be mired in the past and to strain towards the uncertain future
      • (it is harder to watch her do the same and not know how to help)
  • here is the gift of doubt: she succeeds, and it is the cracking stone, the parting clouds, the fading storm
    • doubt, you see, is opportunity: success is all the sweeter for the uncertainty
      • most gifts come with a price; vex knows this. but her heart is not such a terrible price to pay, is it? not when her touch is the sun, burning away the disease, coaxing it forth like a spring bloom
      • (vex has always loved the wilderness of the world. this is not so different)
  • I’m sorry, vex tell her afterwards, when the shame burns hot and low in her stomach and drives her to speak
    • (who would she be, without the tightness in her chest, without the shame and the uncertainty and the––)
    • you don’t need to be sorry, says keyleth, and she coaxes the heat away, and vex does not deserve this, cannot deserve this, will never deserve this
      • (keyleth has always been a wild thing. nature does not care about who deserves what)
    • she kisses like the sun too, bright and blinding, and she burns away the doubt until vex is filled through with sunlight
  • it is harder than you would think, to doubt someone and love them
    • (it is easier too, but that is the way of love)

Hey there! I don't know if someone has pointed this out yet, but why show 0,1 second of Sherlock's past drug habit in TAB and then never talk about it? Am I the only one who thinks it doesn't make sense? Ps: sorry for my English, and I love your blog! <3

Hey Nonny!

Well, I mean… there’s TLD, but you specifically say “past” drug habit, so, yeah, they STILL never go into WHY Sherlock took drugs ever in the first place… even in the episode that apparently talks about “what made Sherlock”, TFP, we’re never told explicitly why Sherlock took drugs… I’m not trying to lessen the severity of why anyone does anything, and literally anything could have been the trigger, but taking TFP at face value, Sherlock apparently had no clue about his best friend-or-maybe-a-dog-or-who-the-fuck-knows, no clue about his murderous 4 or 5-year-old sister, no clue about 12-year-old Mycroft apparently being able to hide all of that from him, and as a result he’s just… did drugs because of nothing? I mean… in TAB’s flashback he had a dog leash as his tourniquet, so I suspect the initial cause of the trauma was probably related to the dog or an event with the dog that he chose to forget and it all spiralled downhill from there. I just… don’t understand myself, Nonny. Bleh, the whole of S4 really… just… made no sense to the narrative.

Though, in HLV, he did state that he took drugs essentially because he was bored, so it could very well be just as simple as that – a mind as complex and fantastical as Sherlock’s certainly would have a hard time stopping or focusing without something to do, so yeah, drugs probably helped with that. I don’t really think it’s anything beyond that. They over-complicated his backstory into something really non-sensical in TFP.

Hey there! I just want to say I have a cousin who lives in LA and is a Klainer. She's not a CC believer but she's definitely doesn't believe in M/iarren either. She lives in LA and sees them at events and concerts. She said even then he ignores her completely. Her words "if D is her real bf then he's a really shitty bf. Ignores her all the time". How come others don't see this? She's NOT a CC'er. Yet, she does NOT see love there. Ppl see what they want to see.

That is the thing, if this were real, I would just feel sorry for both of them to be honest.  I have seen him walking miles in front of her, dismissing her, looking miserable, and ignoring her presence completely. It is my understanding that when the camera is off, there is no conversation beyond what is required. These are 2 people who truly cannot stand to be in each other’s presence and it is the opposite of healthy.

I think people see what they want because to accept that it is fake means they have been lied to for years and more, that D is not straight. So easier to ignore the huge glaring problems than admit there simply is not one ounce of love or respect between them.

I'm sorry if this was asked before (If so please ignore), but Does Hard mode Chara dislike themselves as much as Flavor Text Chara (I hope that's the right one), or is it like what we will see in this comic shows us why Flavor Text doesn't like them self? Like their general behavior and stuff? Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day!

The focus here is more on the world and the differences in it rather than who Chara is. I also dont like just straight up saying stuff and my Chara isn’t the type to spill like that so uh, we’ll see what happens haha?

I will say that this chara and ftc chara aren’t the same person because living in the underground messed with them a lot

This isn't directed at anyone is particular and I hope I don't come across as rude. I just don't understand why people who enjoy romance are always looked down on? It's like I'm being made to feel guilty for enjoying something I like. Just because I enjoy romance it doesn't I don't enjoy friendship & family themes . I still love the story between Hiccup/Toothless, Hiccup/Stoick, Hiccup/Valka. Me enjoying Hiccstrid does not cancel that out, it just means I enjoy all the franchise has to offer. :)

I love what you say: loving Hiccstrid and everything else means you enjoy everything the franchise has to offer!

No one should be looked down upon for enjoying romance, and I am sorry if you feel that anyone has inadvertently or intentionally directed some negative, anti-romantic perspective down upon you. I do not wish to evoke a sense of anti-romance myself (a huge Hiccstrid appreciation post was one of my first analyses on tumblr!). So I am very sorry if you feel as though you have been guilt-tripped or belittled by anyone because you enjoy romance and ships.

Romance is a beautiful, emotional, and fulfilling experience for so many people, and it is totally not something you should ever feel guilty about loving. Please go forth and continue to enjoy Hiccstrid and any other romantic relationships that you love in story! It’s pure and good! It’s legitimately pure and good! Like you, I am thankful for everything HTTYD has to offer: be it Hiccup and Astrid’s relationship, Hiccup and Toothless’ relationship, Stoick and Valka’s relationship, Hiccup and Snotlout’s relationship, or Ruffnut and Tuffnut’s relationship.

The reasons why I personally gravitate so much toward platonic and familial relationships is because society has a very focused idea that romance is The One And Only Way for someone to meet their happily ever after. Sometimes it feels like advertisements, movies, daily conversations, and everything else is directed toward the idea that romance and sex are the great ideal, the great end goal, of anyone wishing to feel happy. Romance becomes the central idea everywhere. If someone is not in a relationship, they are unwanted and alone - that’s the implication. Unfortunately this concept has caused major negative repercussions on many people I have met. I think it has outright damaged society: it has inhibited our ability to create lasting, connecting bonds with more than one person; it has fractured our ability to cherish friendships and hold them through the years, often acting as though they’re replaceable; it has got us mourning what we don’t have rather than feeling comfort in what we do have.

I have seen many friends emotionally struggle, believing that they are completely alone, unloved, unworthy, and disgusting, because they are not in a romantic relationship. They are very cherished individuals who have loving family and friends beside them. Of course someone may desire that different type of romantic love outside of family and friends, and I can understand feeling despondent… but when society emphasizes romance so much that a person believes they are worthless without romance… that is when it is a problem.

For me, I specifically celebrate platonic and familial stories because it helps people get a more balanced understanding of the world of love: that love is more than kisses, that love can be deep and fulfilling no matter what the type of bond, that people are cherished by their friends and family, too. I think this is an extraordinarily important lesson that people need to learn to help their self-esteem and help their ability to create these sorts of relationships. In a society where romantic love is the saturated “happily ever after” that people are told about, it’s good for people to understand they are loved and cherished in more ways than one.

I have the extra desire to see more friendship and familial bonds because I am aroace, and those are the types of relationships I personally connect with the most both on screen and in real life.

But NONE of that makes romance evil, romance is not evil, and romance is not something to be scorned! Romance at its core is a beautiful and glorious loyalty; a cherishing, mutual desire to love another’s company; a unique interaction between a few individuals. Good stories with good romance are good lessons for us all, too. It is an extraordinary experience for many people to live, and it can be an extraordinary experience in story. You have every right to love romance in stories!

Because romance is a very precious thing!

Hiee~ Can i get a no.19 Gladio with a side of Female s/o who is a siren? who tries really hard not to lure men in with her song because she kinda doesn't want to eat him. does that make sense??

You can request nsfw???? Why didn’t you say so!! Its gladio x Siren anon here, if you wouldn’t mind making the request nsfw, sorry ^^’

“Well aren’t you a wolf in sheep’s clothes?”

It’s your instinct to sing, but you never really grew up that way.

You never grew up like the others, luring men and then killing them.

You just didn’t fly that way.

But yet, instinct won one day as you were out in the woods, trying your best to find a certain root for a stew your old neighbor was making.

You didn’t realize you were singing until you heard heavy footsteps coming your way.

As you turned around, there stood a large, built man carrying camping equipment on his shoulder and his amber eyes dazed. His chiseled face was tilted to the side like most of the other men that fall for your kind, and his eyes just seemed to spiral with compulsion.

As you stopped, he snapped out of it and shook the dark clouds from his mind, realizing where he was and finally noticing that someone was standing right in front of him.

Upon seeing feminine legs, he knew he could be outwards with his famous charm.

His lips curled into a handsome smirk and he looked up at your face, ready to flirt and pull out some of his classic moves.

“Are you lo-?”

That was until he got a look at your face morphing back to human.

He watched on in confusion as your eyes went from fully black to your “normal” color, your lips forming back to their natural color instead of a pale peach, and how your skin tinted back to a healthy color.

Sorry I hope it's okay if I rant to you. But when fandom says stuff like D sold his soul, I want to scream. People say he's bound by contracts, point out he doesn't want this, praise him when he 'rebels' then attack him when he has to deal w/ the worst of his obligations. Do people accuse C of selling his soul when he does PR that he doesn't want but has to do? People have sympathy for Ben, who WANTS to be w/ a person like M, but give D shit when he's clearly in agony?? It's makes me so upset.

Hi anon. You and I are on the same page. So always feel free to rant to me.

There is a tendency here to have an immediate reaction whenever D is out and promoting. Yet with C. There’s a different reaction. I think the idea is Darren made his bed so he’s wholly responsible and chris is such a wonderful supportive partner and is forced into the charades.

I don’t view it that way. At all. And I’ve repeated time and again. Chris chose to be here. Equal responsibility.

More. I really think people don’t understand this isn’t a choice but an obligation at this point. For me. I saw that picture tonight and wanted to weep. Darren looks so sad. Further. I worry for his emotional and physical well being. The caption made me want to scream. I feel like this is the last way he wants to spend his weekend.

But most think it’s a choice he’s making. It baffles me. And no matter how much I post. I can’t convince them differently.

To me. It’s pretty clear this is a required action leading to her exit. The bar has yet to open. This will continue until it does. And My theory of pay out is supported by the progress we’ve seen getting her to exit.

So while I hate it. All I can do is offer support from afar. And hope he walks away healthy and happy.

I know I’m a lone voice. But there’s more here that think the same as us. They just aren’t as vocal. All offering support and hoping this ends soon.

On ben. No sympathy here. I do not understand that man. He seems cool. But clearly I’m missing something huge.

Sort of rambling. It’s 4:15 and I felt compelled to answer before going back to sleep.

Honestly confused here, sorry But why do people say shaladin is pedophilia? The only minor is pidge, the rest are in their late teens 17-19. Shiro is at the most 23. That doesn't seem like that big an age gap. Sorry again

i hope this answers your question!! (also, sorry it got long.)

sh//ro is about 24-25. jeremy shada confirmed lance is 16, and someone else (does anyone have a source on this one? i can’t remember who said it) said that h//nk, k//ith, and l//nce are all the same age. pidge is 14-15.

also - anyone under 18 is a minor. an adult dating a minor is pedophilia. it’s also really unhealthy (i was in a relationship with the same age difference as k/h/l and sh//ro, so i can say with personal experience it’s unhealthy and there are a lot of power imbalances there.)

i, as an 18 year old, am not mature enough to date someone who’s 25-26. my brain is not fully developed, while theirs is. even if i’m “mature for my age”, we’re not on the same level. two 18 year olds, or an 18 year old and a 19 year old (or maybe even a 20 year old, depending) could date, and be on the same level. but a 16 year old and a 25 year old wouldn’t have the same maturity, which would be a power imbalance. and if a 25 year old is attracted to a teenager, a minor, that’s technically pedophilia. whether it’s sexual or romantic attraction.

if sh//ro was, say, 18, maybe he could date one of the paladins, but there’s still an age difference, and he in no way could date p//dge. but sh//ro’s not 18, he’s an adult, he was an instructor at the academy based on his outfit…. which segues into my other point.

teachers/students is inherently abusive. i mentioned the power imbalance before - a teacher, regardless of gender, and a student, regardless of gender, shouldn’t be together. a teacher is supposed to teach and mentor. students should be looking up to their teachers, their mentors. sh//ro, being a mentor, being the leader of the group, shouldn’t date one of the paladins anyways because of that. i’m gonna link some articles, which you don’t have to read, but these are reasons why student/teacher relationships (whether romantic or sexual, but they’re usually sexual) are bad. here and here.

to quote the first one - “The last thing teenagers need to worry about, on top of social pressure, financial pressure, schoolwork, standardized tests, peer friendships and romance, and everything else that comes along with the tumultuous stage of adolescence, is being a source of romantic pleasure for their teachers.”

right now, with the paladins saving the world, they really don’t need more stress on top of saving the world. on top of praying they get home someday. on top of everything else.

to quote the second one - “It doesn’t matter that it was consenting. It doesn’t matter that it was fun, or sexy. It doesn’t matter what the circumstances were. There is no good reason for a professor to sleep with his student. Even if she, like I did, really wants it.“

(note: these are romantic and/or sexual relationships. a healthy, mentor-y relationship between a student and a teacher is healthy! and good for the student! they boost good behavior! which is why it shouldn’t become romantic or sexual.)

TL;DR: teacher/student relationships, adult/minor relationships… both are predatory, both have huge power imbalances, and both are wrong. and sh@ladin romanticizes both, even if they age up the paladins, even if they “view” them as adults, even if they “view” sh//ro was a teenager.

anonymous asked:

In your site you said that witchcraft doesn't involve satan at all? Then what does? Aren't all satanics witches etc.. since they all do witchcraft and curses etc? (Im really confused, I'm so sorry!)

Haha no, not at all. Satan is part of Christianity.

And like I said before Witchcraft is not a religious practice.

Now there are people from different religions that ALSO practice magic/witchcraft.

But that’s like saying you’re Jewish AND a metalworker. Or Christian AND a woodsman. So there are some who are from the religious practice of Satanism that also incorporate Witchcraft into their lives. But the two aren’t linked.

The idea that witches or pagans worship satan was begun during the Christian conversion of Northern Europe when the Priests were trying to denounce the old spiritual and religious practices of the local regions. The Catholics couldn’t separate the concept of magic from the Pre-Christian religious beliefs even though not everyone practiced. And so they took imagery of one of the prominent Forest Deities who sometimes appears as an antlered or hooved man, and made this the new image of Satan in their propaganda. Thus the story was started that Witches made pacts with Satan. Frankly, the concept is as ridiculous as suggesting that Muslims make pacts with Sauron or Shiva. Neither are beings they 1)believe in or 2) worship.

But if you actually read verses describing Satan in the Torah or the Bible, there is no such description. It came from trying to demonize the peaceful Deity of the Forest in Celtic and Welsh Religions.

I cannot answer your question because Witchcraft does not involve Satan. They’re completely independent of each other. One has nothing to do with the other. It would be like asking “what kind of cooking involves Satan?”

What if something you wanted doesn't work out? Whether it's a standardized test, a class, a career. Do you just keep moving on and settle for second best? Or does your second best eventually become your first? Do you come to terms with your failure? Or do you reminisce about them as you grow older? There are people who begin to succeed as they grow older, but I can't help but wonder, what if I already passed that time and it only heads downhill from now? I'm sorry about all of the questions...

Hello Sweetie, you don’t need to say sorry. Honestly, I can answer that question based from my own experience. It’s funny and amazing how you guys asked me the right questions. 😂 Well anyway, I’ve failed in a lot of my exams when I was studying. Seriously it was many times that I became used to it. Like I just laugh whenever I received the results of my exams. But I wasn’t the-only-one who failed anyway. ✌🏻 There were lots of us—in my class-who experienced that. And that’s not the point, what I am trying to say is that no matter how hard I tried to turn back time and change everything, I can’t. No matter how many times I think of all the answer and wishing I could retake the same test. So I could have a perfect score, I can’t. In the end, it’s all about your choices sweetie. I’m sorry, but I don’t believe that there’s a heart in this world that doesn’t dream of something. That doesn’t love anything. You just have to make the best choice. Because you know yourself better than anybody else. They don’t know what is going on in your mind. They don’t know what is inside your heart. They don’t know what choices you really have. It’s still ends up with you, sweetie. It’s your choice if you’re going to hate yourself for all of your mistakes, or you’ll make it as your steppingstones for a better future. Do the last sentence rings a bell? It’s so cliche, isn’t it? But it was true. If you’ll have the courage that will make you believe in whatever you can do. I hope you are doing fine now, Sweetie. I also hope the best for you. 😊💓

has selena just given up on acting? because i remember her saying that she doesn't get roles because of her looks so?? is she just completely finished because all she's been doing is music and the only films she does is kids movie shit like hotel transylvania

Selena doesn’t get roles because #1 she’s a flop in the acting word. You thought she flopped in the music industry? Compared to her acting sales she’s Justin in the music industry. #2 she can’t act. Not well anyway and directors who have hired Anne Hathaway and scarlet Johnson aren’t going to hire little miss Alex Russo. (Damn was that too harsh? Does Jackie have a purpose in the show aside from forcing a love triangle drama? If Star and Marco are a thing the she doesn't need tobexisy. If they aren't then she is just there to prevent them from getting together. She seems like a waste of time character who doesn't bring anything but forced drama. because of this I would prefer her go e from the story so we don't waste episodes on her

“Does Toffee have a purpose in the show aside from forcing the characters to have an antagonist?”

I’m sorry about the condescending answer, but I’ve been consistently seeing people saying in a derogatory way that Jackie is a plot device, and people getting offended by the idea of Jackie being a plot device. Why? Every element in a story can be reduced to being a plot device, it’s the basic structure of narrative, it’s not demeaning for said character. There can be good plot devices, and bad plot devices, and Jackie is a good one, if you ask me: she has been in the show since the beginning. and her role has always been “Marco’s crush”, it wasn’t something out of the blue. Also her involvement in the show had both direct effects (Marco had to face some of his fears and insecurities to ask her out, we got to see him speaking his mind…) and indirect ones (Star lost Glossaryck and and the book due to lack of focus generated by Jackie and Marco’s date, she finally managed to properly understand her feelings…), and they were all consistent with the show’s world, and the recurring elements in Star and Marco’s personalities, with what they needed the most to grow both in universe and narratively.
So please understand that I’m not trying to be rude, and obviously anyone can dislike Jackie just like anyone can dislike Pony Head or Gustav - tastes are tastes and the importance of a character doesn’t automatically make them universally liked, but I definitely don’t see Jackie as forced drama, or as forced anything.

• jily get paired up to raise one of those lil fake babies (and of course there are more boys to girls in the class and remus and sirius get paired up (and their baby probably ends up dead or dying by the time eight weeks are over))

• james and lily who aren’t really friends but are far from enemies. they kind of just exist, with small acknowledgements of each other but nothing much

• james hangs out with the rest of the marauders and lily sticks to mary and marlene and frank and alice although the latter two seem to be gone most of the time

• so they’re in health class one day and the teacher assigns them as partners and james is pretty happy (i mean I would be too if i were working with lily evans for an entire eight weeks)

• turns out that there are uneven numbers in the class and remus and sirius end up being paired up (their baby dies within a week because sirius leaves it on top of the urinal and forgets it)

• they decide that lily has it during the day and james has it at night, and they swap every week

• james and lily spend a lot of time together because of the baby (there’s a lot of midnight phone calls, mostly because they’re both v spiteful and in a ‘if I’m not getting a good night’s sleep, I will make sure that you’re not either even if we only live two doors down from each other’ kind of mindset)

• so there’s lots of afternoons in the dog park where they do their homework with the baby (which james christened ‘elvendork’ after james realised that the baby had no genitals.

• “you can’t just say that the baby is a girl or a boy, so to be safe lets name it elevndork because its a highly commendable name and also–unisex

• (the only thing the baby really had were unnervingly green eyes))

• “kind of like you, evans”

• they they go the the dog park with elvendork straight after school a lot and they’re in uniform and they get more than one dirty look from a member of the public who doesn’t realise that the baby isn’t real

• they’re kind of relaxed about it, james goes to lily’s house and they kind of just toss the baby at each other while eating and chatting

• james insists that he show lily that he is very capable of doing push ups with elvendork on his back. shirtless, of course

• lily just rolls her eyes

• they don’t go to james’s house (despite mrs potter doting on james, lily, and elvendork) because sirius lives with james and like hell they’re going to let sirius in a house with two of these things, like ffs who let him have one in the first place

• remus doesn’t really care for his baby either. he’s kind of ‘eh’ about the whole situation and he ends up rigging it so that it screams whenever elvendork comes within two metres of it (james is not impressed)

• (there’s probably one point in which james and lily almost kiss but elvendork starts crying and ruins the mood) (they don’t talk about this certain moment again)

• eventually eight weeks is up and they hand in their baby and get a surprisingly good mark

• remus and sirius hand theirs in but remus has fiddled with it again so all it does is swear in german

• james realises that he likes lily and catches up with her before the day ends

• “hey evans, even though elvendork is gone I thought that you might want to go to the dog park after school to do some homework?”

• and naturally, lily says yes

anonymous asked:

I don't mean to be rude or be a pessimist but honestly, there is no way that the MAJORITY of people in the world are going to go go vegan. At least not until next century (if the world even exists then.) Therefore, what is the point of me being vegan. I know you think that one person can make a difference by influencing and inspiring others but unless the majority of the world does something there will be no change. Sorry but one vegan doesn't equal happy planet. Its never going to happen.

Okay.

Usually I would ignore this kind of thing but I really actually do want to help you (and anyone else who thinks this way) understand how it works because this is really important.

I apologise if I sound or get rude/agitated explaining this, it’s just that I am very passionate about this and find defeatist attitudes quite frustrating.

Alright, first things first, (damn it, Iggy truly has ruined that for me forever) we/you cannot say for sure what will happen in terms of agriculture, animal factory farms, ethical views or environmental and equality laws in the future. We have no way of knowing that. I would agree that it is unlikely, at least in my time, that the entire world will transition to full veganism, for we are sadly either ignorant and unaware, or have been made aware but choose not to change, but I do think more and more will realise how important it is and make the switch. Even if only 90%, or 50%, or 10% of the world come to this realisation and change their ways - this is still far better than none. A small change is still significant, and so much better than no change at all.

What if I said I believed in environmentalism, but felt my actions would be too insignificant or unrewarded so decided to just leave my water running all the time? Or if I thought “well yeah, bigotry, sexism and racism suck, but that’s just the way things have always been, so I’m going to perpetuate and contribute to them because there’s no point trying to make a difference.” Just because social change seems difficult, a long way off perfecting, or even an isolated battle, does not mean you should abandon your beliefs and contribute to the problem.

The main issue with this pattern of thought is that EVERYBODY (or many people) seems to cling to it. They reason “I want the world to be different but I’m just one small person, what impact could I have on my own?” But imagine if everybody who had that thought, stood up or what they believed in. We’d all be standing together. I’m not pointing fingers here, I used to feel the same way - powerless. It wasn’t until doing more research for myself, strengthening my beliefs and understanding how important it is for our whole planet to make a shift to living this way that things really clicked.

Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you doare in harmony.

Since I became more educated on matters of animal cruelty, animal products affecting health, the environment and global poverty, I did lots and lots of reading, viewing and seeking out information, and I set about to change my ways. That may be a very small act in the grand scheme of things, but alone I’m already diminishing the greenhouse gas emissions, amount of animals murdered, and most of all greatly reducing my chances of developing diabetes, osteoporosis, obesity and heart disease.

Moreover, since making that change and becoming more outspoken about what I learned, I’ve had over 100 people collectively contact me on here, via Instagram or Facebook to tell me that I influenced them to go plant-based too. So if you think one person can’t make a difference - that’s incorrect. Take this perspective:

“What if you worked at educating others about animal cruelty, pacifism, drugs or whatever your concern is, and each year just one other person accepted your philosophy? What if that person did likewise? And so on. After six years 32 would have adopted your philosophy. Another six years and the number would have passed 2000, or if we halve that to allow for those who lose commitment or die, 1000, all coming from what you started a decade or so earlier. That’s quite a difference!”

Now, for why all of this is so important.

The U.N. urged the world to move towards plant based living over 4 years ago, claiming that “a global shift towards a vegan diet is vital to saving the world from hunger, fuel poverty and the worst impacts of climate change.” The report also points out that as the world’s population approaches over 9 billion people by 2050, it will not be possible to sustain the per capita consumption of meat and dairy products that we are currently eating. We literally cannot go on living this way.

“Impacts from agriculture are expected to increase substantially due to population growth increasing consumption of animal products. Unlike fossil fuels, it is difficult to look for alternatives: people have to eat. A substantial reduction of impacts would only be possible with a substantial worldwide diet change, away from animal products.”

Professor Edgar Hertwich, the lead author of the report, said: “Animal products cause more damage than producing construction minerals such as sand or cement, plastics or metals. Biomass and crops for animals are as damaging as burning fossil fuels.” [x]

To quote this article, the U.N. is not alone in its analysis. A staggering 51 percent or more of global greenhouse-gas emissions are caused by animal agriculture, according to a report published by the Worldwatch Institute. Researchers at the University of Chicago concluded that switching from a standard American diet to a vegan diet is more effective in the fight against climate change than switching from a standard American car to a hybrid. And a German study conducted in 2008 concluded that a meat-eater’s diet is responsible for more than seven times as much greenhouse-gas emissions as a vegan’s diet is. The verdict is in: If you care about the environment, one of the single most effective things that you can do to save it is to adopt a vegan diet.

All it takes is one person.

One spark to ignite the flame.

Sixty years ago, maybe it seemed like not enough people believed in equality for POC for them to ever get the vote or be treated as humans. Then, in ‘55 and ‘63, Rosa Parks and Martin Luther King Jr. each stood up and fought for what they knew was right. At the time, they would have felt small, part of a minority, and fearful that no change would come, but they spoke up anyway, and inspired others in the process. The same goes for Ghandi, Nelson Mandela, Jane Goodall and Malala Yousafzai. Even Adolf Hitler. Though his motives and actions were horrendous, he was one person and he made a huge difference in the face of history, simply by following what he believed to be right and true. If you are strong in your views, have the passion and knowledge to educate others, huge changes can be made. (I think it’s clear that I am not defending or glorifying Hitler, the Nazi party or anything to do with WW2, but simply acknowledging the power one person has to change the world).

“Dietary changes could therefore not only create substantial benefits for human health and global land use, but can also play an important role in future climate change mitigation policies.” [x]

I’m not sure if you’re aware of the process of supply and demand, but it’s a pretty key one in this argument. Animal agribusiness does not exist on its own, it exists because consumers continue to pay for it. In purchasing meat/eggs/dairy/fur etc, you are directly supporting that industry not only morally, but financially. We vote with our dollar, so it either goes in favour of a product or against. Every time you buy a dead animal - be it to eat or to wear - you are letting the world know that you accept and actively support the practice. You are directly paying someone to kill that cow/baby chick/piglet/lamb/etc and helping them continue to do so. I know this may sound like confronting stuff, because we have developed a strong cognitive dissonance to protect our consciences, but it’s important we know and take a stand for what we believe.

The demand (i.e. how many people want to purchase the product) directly influences the supply (i.e. how much of that product is made). On a smaller scale - look at your home life. Were you to stop eating animal products, your family would subsequently buy less. If you went to your auntie’s house, she might prepare one less meat dish. Similarly, visiting vegetarian and vegan eateries financially supports their organisations and allows them to further their ethical business. On a larger scale, look at your weekly shopping. Say your local grocer orders a certain amount of eggs each week. If you and a few other people decide you no longer want to support/purchase them, their demand decreases. There will come a point where the buying and re-selling of those eggs is no longer profitable as they are left with a surplus of unsold eggs, so they will order less in the future. There is then less demand to produce a certain amount (even if only on a small scale), and it works all the way back up to the factory farms and slaughterhouses.

I like this perspective too. “Suppose a particular vegan in no way affects supply, sets an example, or educates others. They are still doing the right thing. Imagine a scenario involving humans: Several thousand people across the world regularly pay to see live internet video of women being raped and tortured. Dave receives an email inviting him to view these events, but he chooses not to participate. You probably agree with me that Dave’s decision is morally obligatory — even though the women will still be exploited and none of the viewers will notice his absence”.

Care about our environment?

  • On average it takes 11 times more fossil fuel to make one calorie of animal protein as it does to make one calorie of plant protein. (American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, Vol. 78, No. 3, Pimentel & Pimentel, Sept. 2003)
  • In the U.S., livestock production is responsible for 55% of all soil erosion on cropped land and pastureland, 40% of which ends up in water resources.  (United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, “Livestock’s Long Shadow”, 2006, p. 73, Box 2.5)
  • It takes 5 times more water to yield 1000 kcal of meat as it does to yield 1000 kcal of fruits, vegetables or grains. (Malin Falkenmark & Johan Rockstrom, “Balancing Water for Humans and Nature”, 2004, p. 50)
  • You could save more water by not eating one pound of California beef than you would save by not showering for an entire year. (Based on 1 shower/day, 7 minutes/shower, using 2 gallons water/minute). (John Robbins, The Food Revolution, 2001, p. 237)

Despite currently having the resources to feed every mouth on our planet, billions of people are living in and dying of poverty each day. Rather than using plants from the Earth as our nourishment, we instead waste it by forcing it into the throats of animals to fatten them up, so that we can then kill them and eat them (along with all the other animals, flies, poop, hormones and junk inside their bodies)… rather than just eat the grains and vegetables ourselves. We are choosing to feed the animals rather than ourselves, and its making for a great imbalance worldwide.

“It takes up to 16 pounds of grain to produce just 1 pound of edible animal flesh. Making meat consumption a very inefficient use of grain and wasteful of our land. Continued growth in meat output is dependent on feeding grain to animals, creating competition for grain between affluent meat-eaters and the world’s poor.” - Worldwatch Institute

What about your health? We all hear those common phrases thrown around - “you need meat for protein” or “dairy for calcium”, but have you ever looked into the truth for yourself? Recent studies have shown meat and cheese may be as bad for you as smoking. Reducing or eliminating animal flesh and by products from your diet can also reduce or eliminate high mortality rate illnesses like diabetes, obesity, high blood pressure, some forms of cancer, and heart disease, as a plant based diet contains little to almost non existent bad cholesterol or unhealthy fats. We humans are the only animals that continue to drink milk after weening (kinda creepy if you think about it) and the only ones to drink the milk of another species (almost creepier, picture yourself standing under a big mama cow’s udder to get the milk for your cereal). Because that stuff is created in pregnancy for the sole purpose of feeding her baby calf, it isn’t designed for our consumption. As the cows are pumped full of hormones and chemicals, their milk is too. Despite what our parents and TV commercials have told us over the years, dairy actually depletes our bones of calcium and can result in osteoporosis. Here and here you can read my posts about why dairy is so harmful for us to consume, so if you think going plant-based wont make any difference - consider your own health!

Even if I hadn’t been able to provide any of this information and supporting evidence, would it matter? Surely if you believed animal cruelty or the killing of others was immoral, that should be enough grounds for you to not support it? By paying to have others killed, exploited, raped/artificially inseminated repeatedly without consent and so on, you are directly fuelling this industry - so you better agree with what they’re doing. Things like grinding baby chicks alive in a big blender, suffocating piglets,

There is never a bad time to start doing the right thing. Of course, the best time is now. The days you haven’t been vegan are gone, and you can’t have them back. Forget them. They belong to the past. Make today, tomorrow, and every day after the priority. They are yours”. [x]

Each of your consumer choices is a vote for the kind of world you want to see. Each of your choices in the past helped build the world of today, and each of your choices from this moment forward will help build the world of tomorrow.

The question is not “can you make a difference?” You already do, it’s just a matter of what kind.
