who are they to tell me to change

I’m not giving him the time of day. I’m interested in having conversations, Brooke, that will move people of all races forward in this country. I’m interested in having a conversation that will help us to admit the wrongs that were done in this country and how we move forward. I am not interested in trying to convince and change the mind of a bigot. Someone who will openly troll me and say things that are offensive, that he knows are not true.

I mean, it’s very frustrating and I’m tired of people telling me that black people are beneath a standard when we have to be twice as good all the time.  And that is why I said, I’m not interested in having a dialogue with someone like Joe who has demonstrated a propensity towards bigotry. And he did that on Twitter yesterday in 140 characters or less.

She said “Not today.”
She said “I shall not.”
She said “I have had it officially.”
She said “Don’t try me, try Jesus.”
She said “Go get a switch.”
She said “Look at these receipts.”
She said “Fuck yo couch.”
She said “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.”
She said “Bitch please.”
She said “I coulda had a V8.”
She said “Bye Felicia.”
She said “You got the wrong one to put you in the right place today sir.”
She said “If you feelin froggy, leap.”
She said “Bless your heart.”
She said “There’s the exit.”

Angela Rye is fed up and she is channeling all of us on today.  I feel so blessed.

“When I was younger, I’d always leave the house dressed like a man, but then I’d change my clothes. My mother told me the devil was in me. My father said that I was useless. They even took me to the doctor to find out what was going on. But my grandfather always supported me. He was more open-minded than my parents. I think it’s because he worked at a 24 hour restaurant and met all the people who came out at night. Even when I was a child, he’d see the clothes I wore, and he’d tell me: ‘If you were a girl, you’d be very beautiful.’ When I finally told him everything I was feeling, he said: ‘You’re a great person, and I’ll never be afraid of what’s going on with you.’”

Trans guys are allowed to and desire to be strictly masculine in their presentation.
Yes gender norms are total horse manure but I’m a guy who wants to present entirely masculine. Not just androgynous.
Stop telling trans people that ‘you of all people should understand that boys should wear dresses or makeup, too!’ I wanted to die when I wore dresses and I don’t think that’s changed. I don’t mind makeup but even still I don’t wear it in a way that society sees as typically feminine so leave me and other masculine trans guys alone!!!
If you’re a trans guy who doesn’t feel comfortable presenting typically feminine in any way this post is for you. I totally understand. You aren’t a bad person and you aren’t reinforcing negative gender stereotypes.

Mastering The Elements

Professor (Flitwick… probably): “Good afternoon class! Today we will be learning how to manipulate the elements. Before we begin, it is important to understand each element and how it relates to the others. Now who can tell me the 4 basic elements?”

Slytherin: “Water”

Hufflepuff: “Earth”

Gryffindor: “Fire”

Ravenclaw: “Air”

Professor: “Very good. Now…”

Gryffindor: “Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked.”

Ravenclaw: “Only the Avatar, master of all four elements, could stop them, but when the world needed him most, he vanished.”

*students: “what is happening?”*

Slytherin: “A hundred years passed and my brother and I discovered the new Avatar, an airbender named Aang.”

Hufflepuff: “And although his airbending skills are great, he has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone.”

The 4 students in unison: “But I believe Aang can save the world.”

*silence…*

Professor: “Well done! You are the first group of students to recite it perfectly. I liked how all of you said the last line together. 10 points to each house. Simply wonderful.”

Margherita Lucilla Siani - Overwatch OC: Overview

Ta-daaaa! This post has been stocked in my scraps for like… a decade! I’ve been changing things, names, dates so many times that I have issues myself to remember who and when. But we are finally here!

Some general, basic informations about my Overwatch Child, Margherita. It’s the first time ever I go this deep with an Original Character, so I really hope you like her! More infos, skins and backstory will come soon.

Fancy to tell me if you’d like to play as her? Ahah! I totally would!

I wrote more detailed explanations about her abilities, but I’m gonna hide the rest of the post since I talked too much. LOL

There is a real imbalance, from the very creation of the stories and who’s telling them, how, and why. Change has to happen with the writers, the studio, the marketers, the directors. That’s got to be diversified because there is a hunger for the expansion of the role of people of color in the center of narratives.

When people tell stories about how their parents beat them, it’s always interesting to see their face change because they expected me to say “me too lol” but I instead say “I’m really sorry. You didn’t deserve that”
Last time a co worker who also has West Indian parents was telling me in a joking way how he remembers being beaten with a belt because lied about his report card. As he was laughing it off and saying he deserved it, I just said “wow that’s awful hun. You didn’t deserve that.” And his whole face changed. Like it hadn’t occurred to him that it’s messed up that a part of remembering his childhood is remembering how badly it hurt to be beaten so badly at such a young age.
Another time I had a friend, non West Indian parents, who talked about how she made a mess on a dress that her parents got her. It was really expensive apparently and she spilled red juice on it. She talked about how she was ordered to take the dress of and was beaten with a belt too without any clothes on. And she was laughing and said “I was a bad ass kid lol” and I said “no hun you were just a kid”. And she looked at me and immediately stopped laughing and just sat there like “yea…I was just a kid. I don’t know why they did that to me”
My mom was raised in a household where she was beaten so badly….I just don’t understand how she is so loving now growing up in a home where she got so little love. They called it discipline, but once she became a social worker she began to see that it was abuse. That she grew up terrified of her parents, although they thought it was respect that my mom felt. It was fear.
We have to get comfortable challenging what is often seen as cultural norms. We have to be a generation of people who are not ashamed to say “I would never beat my child”.

Oh, it’s not your job? It is now.

This is a long story.

Intro and Backstory

My dad was a mechanic for 20+ years, and for as long as I can remember, I drove him nuts because I would go around the house with a screw driver he left out and take everything apart because I wanted to see how it work. As I grew older I developed an affinity towards computers and electronics, which led me to be “that kid” in High School who changed his grades, crashed the school districts servers, and used the NETSEND command with great success. I would spend my weekends either with my grandparents and uncle working on science projects or dragging my dad outside to help me fix my car (which consisted of him telling me that he would help once I got it taken apart). Those “figure it out” lessons were the probably the greatest gift he could’ve given me growing up.

I joined the US Army in 2004 and went into communications or “commo” for short (25U) where I managed to go from PVT (E1) when I joined to SGT (E5) by the time I returned from my deployment in 2006. After returning home, I was subsequently transferred from a Light Infantry Unit (walking everywhere) to a Mechanized Infantry Unit (Riding in an armored vehicle everywhere) and placed in charge of the Battalion Commo Shop as the current person running the commo shop was scheduled to retire in a few months and I was the only other NCO. This is where things got interesting and my Commo vs. Mechanics ProRevenge story starts…

Commo vs. Mechanics

Wait til you find someone that looks at you the way I look at her. Wait for someone who takes photo shoots with you. Wait for someone who tells you how in love with you they are. Wait for someone that’s gonna love everything about you, including all your flaws. Wait for someone who accepts you for who you are and doesn’t want you to change. Wait for your soulmate, don’t settle for less than you deserve.

My two cents on the first ‘you’

Alright so I have been thinking about the thing and I have concluded that I think that “is the first you singular or plural” is pretty much a particularly fruitful way to approach the scene. Hear me out.

Who is Cas referring to up to this moment? The three of them. After saying “you’re my family” he turns specifically to Mary and nods, like he’s telling her “yes, you too”. So far, “you” means “Dean, Sam, and Mary”.

Why would he suddenly shift from a “you” that means “Dean, Sam, and Mary” to a “you” that means something different? He’s making a speech and it makes no sense for him to change who he’s addressing to with no indication he’s doing so. I think his addressee is the same - the three of them.

If the speech ended here, if he said the thing about not wanting to see them die now, the scene would be Cas tells Dean, Sam and Mary that he loves them. Period. Dean wouldn’t stand out particularly - yes, the camera cuts to him immediately and the direction of Cas’ eyes and everything, but Cas’ words themselves wouldn’t give you reasons to think that there’s something in them that hints at specific feelings he has for Dean.

But…!

Cas feels the need to clarify what he meant with that “you”. Which would be absolutely unnecessary and make no sense unless you assume that Cas loves Dean in a way that differs from his feelings for Sam and Mary.

He’s been talking to his family, to the three of them, why would he feel the need to clarify that he means the three of them?

Because there is a chance that they might have assumed he was referring to Dean. There is a chance that Sam and Mary would think he was talking to Dean only, not to them. Because everyone in that room knows that Cas’ feelings for Dean are not the same as Cas’ feelings for Sam and Mary, so Cas is saying “I am expressing my love for all of you”.

Sam’s face here could either mean (or mean a mixture of both, more likely) “oh, you mean you love me too” or “oh you love Dean so much and it’s so obvious I thought you were only talking about him”. Kinda.

Basically Cas says I love you. And by you I don’t just mean Dean which I know each of us knows I love because literally every pebble outside knows that because the entire universe knows, in fact it’s so obvious you’re probably thinking that’s what I meant with ‘I love you’ right, so what I’m saying is that I mean that I care deeply about all of you because you all are my family and you all have been important to me and made me into the person I am now.

Basically the point is that everything he’s said before the “I love all of you” can be interpreted in two different ways - i.e. applied to Dean only (and it gets certain connotations) or applied to the three of them (and it gets different connotations). And the fact that Cas clarifies it, means that he’s aware of that possible dualism and he’s aware that everyone in the room is aware of it.

And if Perez is making the characters acknowledge that dualism (i.e Cas’ feelings for Dean being different than Cas’ feelings for the others), it means that that dualism is real.

Basically the scene isn’t telling us the nature of Cas’ feelings for Dean. That needs to happen still. It’s a little sign telling us that they’re different than Cas’ feelings for Sam or Mary.

In 11x23 Cas made a pained face when Dean told him that he was their brother. That’s what we’re exploring right now: is it possible to use the same label for Cas’ and Dean’s relationship as for Cas’ and Sam’s relationship? It’s pretty much what Robbie Thompson foreshadowed at with the line “what about Sastiel” - in the context of the episode it was a joke, but nothing is just a joke from a meta point of view it means, what’s the difference between ‘Dean and Cas’ and ‘Sam and Cas’?

Basically, in order to make Destiel shift from subtext to text, you have to answer the question ‘what about Sastiel’ first, i.e. elaborate on the difference between Cas’ feelings for Sam and Cas’ feelings for Dean. And Cas’ speech in 12x12 of course doesn’t mean all of this stuff textually, but, extradiegetically, it’s a sign that the show is setting the ground for the answers to that kind of questions.

Listen up Punks

If you think Punk is just an aesthetic, get out.
If you think punk is all ripped jeans, rock and roll, and wild hair, please leave.
If you claim to be a punk but make no effort to change society’s standards and challenge the norm outside of your fashion choices, I have a problem with you.
Don’t get me wrong I’m not some elitist asshole who wants to tell you what you can and can’t be, but I will implore you to go look up the history of punk. True punks fight for the oppressed. Punk isn’t just about patches and pins, and it’s certainly not this “I don’t give a fuck” shit I’ve been seeing from some self-proclaimed “punks”.

To be punk is to care enough to say “fuck society for hurting you” to minorities.

Right now, we need the you to really prove how punk you are. If you truly are punk, show some antifascist action.

Sincerely, a frustrated queer punk.

The problem with emotional abuse is that no matter how many people, even ones who know you and know what was happening, tell you that it wasn’t your fault, it still feels that way sometimes.

A short comic from my comic zine Venti, a project I had over the summer. I tried to focus on emphasizing compositions using minimal detail and stark contrast. I really feel like this project helped prepare me for stuff I’ve done since, such as Canticle of Change and my current project, Bloom

Who’s the doctor here?

Nursing home patient: *Has dementia, always complains of back pain, doesn’t remember to ask for her Tylenol that is ordered as-needed.*

Wayfaring: *Changes Tylenol order from as needed to scheduled twice a day.*

Patient’s family member: Dr. Wayfaring, why does she need Tylenol?

Wayfaring: Because she complains of back pain and looks like she hurts and she feels better when she takes it. But she doesn’t remember well enough to ask for it when she needs it.

Family member: Is she really in pain?

Wayfaring: Well, every time I see her she tells me her back hurts. She walks very stiffly with her hand on her back. So yes, I’d say she’s probably in pain.

Family member: Are you checking her liver? Did you even know that Tylenol hurts the liver? What are her liver functions?

Wayfaring, thinking

Wayfaring: Yes ma’am, I am aware that Tylenol can potentially cause liver damage. We are checking her liver enzymes periodically and they are normal. And the amount of Tylenol she is prescribed is well below the maximum daily dose.

Family member: Well why can’t she have ibuprofen instead? Or mobic? That’s what I take and it’s better.

Wayfaring: Because she has chronic kidney disease and a stomach ulcer and those medicines will make both of those conditions worse. And the Tylenol seems to be working for her.

Family member: Does she really need pain medicine at all? I think you should just stop the medicine.

Wayfaring: You know, generally families are happy when their loved ones aren’t in pain. So I tell you what… why don’t you come visit her sometime (thinking: since you never do) and ask her how she feels?  I’d be happy to do whatever she wants.

The more room you give yourself to express your true thoughts and feelings, the more room there is for your wisdom to emerge. - Marianne Williamson ✨

I’ve been having so many issues with expressing my true feelings and it’s been eating me up inside. My mood would change and even affect other people. I hate it so much. My past has made me this way. I was always around people who would tell me I’m too emotional and didn’t care about my feelings at all. I’m learning to understand that now I’m finally friends with people who actually are sensitive to my emotions and care about how I feel. Im learning to express how I feel instead of bottling up inside because I never want to hurt the people who actually care about me. Everyday is a new step. Just believe in yourself and everything will be fine. I promise ❤

The only reason Donald Trump is getting away with any of this shit is because he’s white. Don’t tell me it’s because he was democratically elected and you’re just respecting the outcome. Fuck. Off. If Obama had pulled ONE, just ONE of the things that Trump has pulled there would’ve been hell to pay.

Could you imagine what would’ve happened if Obama had approved that military raid causing the death of all those civilians and a Navy SEAL? If he had blamed Bush instead of taking responsibility? If he had then GONE ON VACATION?!

Face it. America is going down the drain because the people who really matter, and the people who could actually change things will never step up to a white rich cishet man.
