who allowed you to look like that

ineptshieldmaid  asked:

Sam I have an important Chicago question: just north of the DuSable bridge there is a statue of what looks like Abe Lincoln excitedly taking a man in a knitted sweater on a first date. I only saw it from a bus, so didn't get either a photo or an explanation. Can you explain this phenomenon? Are Abe and Sweater Man happy???

*head in hands* FUCKING SEWARD JOHNSON

You have triggered the rage within me, so now you will ALL be treated to an outside-the-readmore screed about SEWARD GODDAMN JOHNSON.

I don’t normally attack artists because a) it scares my friends who are artists (I love you all, you are beautiful, don’t be afraid) and b) honestly most artists don’t deserve the level of vitriol I’m about to employ. I want you all to remember that the seething hatred I feel for Seward Johnson is driven in large part by class consciousness.

But not entirely. So let’s begin.

First what you have to know is that Seward Johnson is a “sculptor”. If you google “seward johnson sculpture” you’ll get an idea of his work, most of which is terrible. I feel okay calling his work terrible because he is also the scion of the family that founded SC Johnson Johnson & Johnson (my bad), so he has all the money he needs and could step back, do his art for funsies, and let people with actual talent or two original thoughts in their heads exhibit their art, but he doesn’t, he forces his terrible art on all of us.

The reason I harbor such animosity towards Seward Johnson is that he has been exhibiting on Pioneer Plaza (that area north of the DuSable Bridge) for almost a decade now, and when I worked in the north loop I had to walk past his art every day. It was bad enough when the sculpture was American Gothic, rendered without talent or meaning into three dimensions and provided with luggage.

How very fucking dare you, you talentless hack

These things are sculpted out of what amounts basically to styrofoam painted in rubberized/weatherized paint, so they are fragile, and tourists were constantly climbing on Farmer’s shoes and falling into them when they found out it wasn’t the cheap but supple fiberglass you would expect of a tacky monstrosity more suited to a roadside motel than the business district of a major metropolitan city. (I would imagine this is why Abraham Lincoln And The Mayonnaise Sandwich has a little fence around it.)

But American Gothic Motel Attraction was mostly just annoying because it was meaningless, derivative, and CONSTANTLY covered in gawkers getting in everyone’s way.

Additionally, Seward Johnson’s sculptures on the Plaza are very popular photo spots for tourists, who carry lots of cash and are constantly distracted, which means beginning with The Assault On American Gothic it became a very popular spot for pickpockets. Which means members of our staff, who had nothing to do with this mess, got pickpocketed as collateral damage about once a week during the exhibition of….

Forever Marilyn.

SEWARD JOHNSON GO FUCK YOURSELF

This is a very famous image of Marilyn Monroe which is horrifying for the following reasons that Seward Johnson appears not to have understood nor cared about:

a) The day this was shot, on an open set with people leering at her all day, her husband, professional athlete and dirtbag Joe DiMaggio, found out about the filming. Rather than comfort his wife, who had been through some shit already that day, he became angry she’d been showing her panties in public and beat her so badly the neighbors called the police on him. Joe DiMaggio also go fuck yourself.

b) IT’S IN A MOVIE INFAMOUSLY SET IN NEW YORK. To quote a local newspaper, “Did Chicago lose a bet?”

c) Yes, you can look up and see her panties. While this is juvenile, it’s not nearly as juvenile as the literally thousand of photographs I angrily photobombed of some douchebro from Fuckville Middle America in a backwards baseball cap standing between her legs with his face tilted upwards and his tongue out.

Oh and btw before it was unveiled it looked like this:

For literal days, before it was installed, she had a bag over her head. (For more on this, though the pictures are now missing, you can read my reaction post here.)

In any just world, there would be a trap door between her legs and everyone who tried to do the upskirt shot would fall into a pit where they would be forced to give five dollars to women’s shelters before they were allowed to leave. THAT would have been interesting art.

Sidebar, both as contrast and because I love it: Marilyn left a few years ago and was briefly replaced by a refreshing and beautiful piece called The Watch, by Hebru Brantley. The Watch was playful and interesting and didn’t have a single upskirt. Hebru Brantley is a wonderful artist in his own right, but he was also a welcome breath of fresh air after Johnson’s mediocre tribute to sexual assault.

The Watch was a temporary installation, however, and eventually along came Abraham Lincoln Approves Of White Men

It is an unfortunate coincidence that Confused Closeted Republican there is wearing khakis and a white shirt, the new uniform of the alt right, and it’s also coincidence that this is facing Trump Tower, but it’s not exactly helping Seward Johnson’s cause that he chose the blandest outfit possible for Paean To Confused White Bread. The sculpture is meant to be Lincoln, the darling of Illinois, welcoming a visitor to our fair city, but it sure does look like fresh meat is about to get a free trip to Boys Town with the Sixteenth President of the United States.

This is what I mean when I say Seward Johnson lacks not only skill but also understanding: he clearly didn’t know that Lincoln’s sexuality is under enough debate to have its own wikipedia page, and he either didn’t know or didn’t care that Marilyn Monroe was nearly killed by her husband for shooting that scene. All he cares about is image and he’s bad at reproducing image. That is not a well-executed rendering of how human beings are, and dynamically speaking it’s boring. If he were good at visuals or if he had something meaningful to say I would be less angry, but he is mediocre at best and the statements his sculptures make are banal pap if they make any at all.

But he is rich, and I guess either he likes Chicago or he’s got blackmail on Sam Zell, owner of Pioneer Plaza, so he gets to spatter his hideous, meaningless masturbation in my city. And lest you think Seward Johnson got here on his own merits, Forever Marilyn, now on tour from coast to coast, is owned by The Sculpture Foundation, which is heavily subsidized by Seward Johnson. He basically founded a nonprofit to ensure his work gets toured around and publicized and to ensure that if no museum wants it, it has a place to go to die (Palm Springs, CA).

In short, I hope Abe and Sweater Man are happy, because at least then something good has come out of Seward Johnson’s astounding mediocrity. That said, if you are passing his latest work, spit on it for me. As performance art.

wonho hyping kihyun to do kwiyomi player aegyo + skinship = a great concept [cr:kmtau]

look, I’m not saying that not liking Taylor Swift revokes your right to call yourself a feminist.

but I am saying that most of the reasons people are shitting on her comes from deeply internalized misogyny, no matter how much they deny this.

If you hate TS’s new song because you think she’s

a. crying for attention

b. being immature

c. being too petty / needs to “get over” kimye / katy perry / whatever

then please, ask yourself why no one ever, ever, ever shits on male musicians for writing songs that not only shit on other artists, but even call them out by their name. Like, Drake vs. Meek Mill or Eminem vs. well, you name it. People go crazy over that shit. These male artists are seen as bad ass and savage for doing something that YOU’RE ALL SHITTING ON TAYLOR SWIFT FOR DOING.

Not to mention, no one ever shit on Kanye for demeaning Taylor in his song, “Famous,” SEVEN years after the vma award show “incident.” He was still going on about it, and no one told him to “move past it.” Why? You know why. Because men can respond to their own experiences in whatever way they want to. And according to you guys, women can only respond to their own experiences in one acceptable way. AKA not being “petty,” and just shutting the fuck up. Because like, who wants to hear women talk anyways? lets leave that for the men, right?

Please check your internalized misogyny at the door and allow Taylor Swift to respond to her own experiences in whatever way she wants, because you all allow men that exact same luxury without endlessly shitting on them.

Study tips! - 2017

Hi guys! These are the tips that I have for now, the truth is that they work quite a bit at the time of studying and I hope they do the same for you.

1.      Make summaries and/or schemas:

I’m a girl more of summaries than schemes (concept maps, or mind maps), but any of these are good to analyze, understand and remember better what one is studying at the time. I know that many people, like me, have the problem to put what they were studied in either of these two methods, for example, I’m not very good with the schemes, therefore I support more on summaries and to make them as small as possible, carefully not to forget anything about what I am summarizing; This is why I want to advise you that no matter how difficult and complicated it seem any of these methods, try it. Eventually, you will handled the way to do it and you’ll not realize when you will be all experts.

2.      Uses colors:

Yes, I won’t deny it, I’m 100% a girl of colors. I feel incomplete, weird, as if something will miss me when my notes do not have color, at least highlight my titles, I need it, it’s something that is a part of me.

Careful! Use colors doesn’t mean that our notes are freshly come out from a fairy oven and it looks like a rainbow, no. Use them, but sparingly, as fair and necessary to put your notes look cute and you can difference the titles of the rest, or the term of its meaning… and of course the most important thing, that are organized and clean so that when it comes the time for studying, you can understand everything.

More than for aesthetics, I occupy the colors in order to have a more dynamic vision in my notebook, allowing me to better understand, memorize better and above all to find what I want more easily. However, I won’t deny that I also like to have my notes beautiful and colorful, I say, who don’t like to have their notes organized and beautiful? To nobody.

3.      Organize your time:

Sometimes when we sit at our study site we spend hours on the same subject, without advancing in others that also we have to study, so to avoid these types of mishaps that make our work to study more heavy, because it leaves all for after, we must organize our time of study. Some occupy the “bullet journal" method for studies, others, the timer. I used the timer until I met a wonderful applications that help you concentrate and at the same time, takes your time. For example, we have a well known application called “Forest” which is available for both IOS and Android, with the difference that in Android you can download the free version, which in IOS is not yet available, but there are other applications that are similar to “Forest” that are free, such as “Be Focused”, an application that also helps you manage your time , where you can save time and designate them for return to them whenever you want, you also have the option to have breaks. The only difference between “Forest” and “Be Focused” is that the first you have the option of listening to sound of fund for greater concentration, while the second handles you only the time, without the option of background music. These two earlier applications are part of many more that you can find both Android and IOS (if you want, later I will let a post with a list of applications to study that I personally find the best of them).

To organize your time, you must rely on what you are studying, because it all depends on the amount of content. For example, in biology is usually much content, concepts or terms to memorize and understand, so I left a full hour to study everything and make sure that I understood. If the content is very complicated, I can add a couple of more minutes, but without passing me in the hour and a half, because you have to keep in mind that there are more to study.

4.       Explains what you studied:

That’s right, explain in your own words what you studied. This may be by voice or video recorder, the idea is that once you’ve explained everything in your own words you can hear the audio, and ensure that you’ve understood all or at least the vast majority. So you will see your failings and strengthen your weaknesses., correct your mistakes and learn from them. Personally, I recorded my voice explaining the best that I can what I’ve understood, and if I’ve doubts about having it explained well or have covered all, I send the audio to my friends or classmates, that way I can have a second opinion and make sure I have done well.

5.       Record your classes if possible:

If you need to take notes in a class, but for various reasons, are a - b or c, you can’t be able to complete them, I recommend that you carefully get your cellphone and begin to record the class quietly, and when you will be already at home can play the audio and complete your notes without missing anything.

Although, to tell the truth, I recommend over talking to your classmates and ask for

permission from the Professor, and then record the class, both in audio as an image. If the teacher still not authorized it (because it’s supposed to record the classes within an establishment is not allowed), can get a little rebellious and record, put your cellphone somewhere in the room where it isn’t seen. Sometimes be a little rebellious is not bad, it all depends on the reason why you are, right?

Carefull! This doesn’t mean that you don’t take notes in class or not pay attention because you are recording, if you don’t understand the class less you will do it through an audio or video, where you don’t have the support of your present teacher.

6.      Creates memory cards (flashcards):

Although it seems typical, they are quite effective. There is the option of to make them yourself or you can download any application that can make them, as for example Quizlet, an application that is available both IOS and Android. This will help to quickly memorize definitions of concepts, or important dates, people and their works, etc.

7.      Transfer your notes in order, rewrite:

If you are one of the people who, like me, prefer to make a draft of his notes, and then pass them in clean (rewrite them), you’ll know that this tip really works. I won’t deny that it is more work, but everything has its reward, isn’t it?

Personally I’m of people who have better visual memory, which read and write helps me to memorize better. Thus I memorize and order my notes, both at the same time. In addition, it said that rewrite is equivalent to five readings, I don’t know if that is true, but I at least feel that I memorize best rewritting, well in my time to study I remember things I’ve written and I can understand them better.

8.       Listen to music to concentrate:

The truth is that this tip is pretty ambiguous and personal, because it depends on each person. Many people can’t concentrate with noise, so they only can study in complete silence, and others simply cannot withstand be studying with so much silence. I’m of people who are in the middle.

For me is inevitable listen classical, instrumental music, rain, nature or just a relaxing study melody sounds. It helps me enough to concentrate and accompany me at the time of study. There are a variety of videos on YouTube with relaxing music, classical or instrumental music, or sounds of nature to study, as well as on Spotify playlists that are pretty good.

Personally, I listen to music when I do exercises such as mathematics or physics, and as for readings or review, normally I do without music or with one that does not have too much rhythm, as sounds of rain, wind, etc., to be able to concentrate.

9.      Search material of support:

If you feel that you still don’t understand the subject, either because it is very difficult or because you don’t understand your teacher, you can’t stay still and do nothing. You have to auto-teach you, learn and learn any other way what you are passing in classes.

For example, looking for videos that teach you what you are going through, search exercises online, Power Point presentations, PDF documents to help you supplement your notes or your knowledge. There are many channels on YouTube that can help you to study, as also pages with books, exercises, and documents about what you’re going. The idea is to find supporting material that will help you to understand what you’re learning in class, so to be able to reinforce.

10.   Stay away from your social networks:

I know that many of us it has happened that from being studying we went from one second to another to be checking our Instagram account. Best for these cases is to put the cell phone as far as possible, if needed elsewhere in your home (obviously, if you’re studying at home), and in airplane mode so that nothing interrupts your time of study. Now, to avoid entering your networks through the computer or laptop that you are using at the time of study, you can download applications that will block certain pages by a certain time, and once activated cannot be it reversed, yes or Yes you should spend that time so that the pages are unlocked. These applications exist for both Windows and Mac.

11.  Uses Post-it (sticky notes):

These help me to write down something that perhaps the teacher said in class and would not have seeing completely with the theme that we’re passing, or be any possible question test, any dimension, a concept that I don’t know.

12.  If you have any doubts, questions, ask:

As they say the teachers, or at least of my school, “There no are silly questions, only fools who don’t ask”. So, if you have doubts, ask. No matter if you make a mistake, you must solve all your doubts because that will help you better understand what you are seeing. If you are in classes and you don’t understand, ask, solve all your doubts with the professor, because once you get home to study you won’t understand almost nothing, if it is that it is absolutely nothing, by not having asked.

If you’re at home or out of classes, studying, grab your cell and ask your classmates. The idea is to clear your concern in one way or another.

Personally, I really like to be able to solve my doubts with my classmates, because in addition to answer all my questions, we can exchange notes, complementing our notes, we can learn new techniques to solve exercises, etc.

13.   Review constantly:

I know that the work of reviewing every day is quite heavy, but it works. It’s truth. At least in my experience constantly review has helped me be able to memorize better what are passing to me in classes, since the constant review helps to retain longer the lessons learned, and a day before the test it doesn’t need to study too hard, ‘cause everything I learned it was be engraved on the head, and just only a small study session will need. Therefore I recommend that when you get arrive home after school review your notes at least 15 minutes that day, and everyday, in that way you will retain in your head more time what they are seeing.

14.   Gets emails from your professors/teachers:

In my case, some of my teachers send us documents PDF or PPTs we use during their classes, to study and reinforce what we saw, as well as complement our notes. Course, I recommend that if you are still in school, you can put on agree with your classmates and create an email as a group so that way you will not have problem in contacting your teacher. This is ‘cause in some schools have problems for contact their professors outside the establishment, and there are some schools that are quite strict in that area. If you’re in university, I don’t think that will be a problem to contact you through your personal email.

Carefull! Teachers are not always so cool, or so nice, to give you their mail, some of they put many excuses since in some schools the teacher-student ethics is fairly strict with contact outside the establishment, so they are usually quite reluctant to give them, especially if the teacher is handsome, so you have to prove that you are really interested in the material support and not in him, or in harass him (even while actually are haha, the key is prove otherwise 😉).

15.  Lean on your textbooks:

Many times in our schools deliver us books of the subjects that we will see that year (either whether we should buy them or they are delivered by the same school), and either that the professor uses them little or nothing within classes, we must have in mind that the book yes serves us and helps, or at least the vast majority of them because it is a support material that contains descriptions, images and vocabulary, and to answer key in some, that helps us to know in what we were wrong (for example, the books of mathematics, following exercise can confirm your answer with the solution key), this can serve when you are studying for a test, and also the test obviously. So it is best to always bear in mind that texts that give schools if you serve, independent of whether the teachers based their class in them or not, there will always be material that will help you to complement what you taught the teacher in class.

16.  Have a fixed study site:

To study well and be able to focus without any impediment, we need a fixed and comfortable place. This place has to be clean, orderly, and as much as possible wide (extended desktop), so we can have all our scope and not deconcentrate us to go for something that you need or miss. The best thing is study in a desk in your room, or in the table of dining room of your house, but is completely forbidden study in bed, as to be overly comfortable us enters laziness and sleep, interrupting our study session, and practically ensuring a long nap.

17.  Keep a schedule of fixed study:

Personally, I’m kind of people who aren’t very organized when it comes to schedules or events. Simply plans and me not get along very well, but I don’t deny that for a time I tried it, being constant in my moment of planning what to do later (in my bullet journal) and I found it quite beneficial. Apart from planning everything and organize my time, and comply with what I should do of course, I could see the progress of my studies, but as I said the plans and I don’t we get along very well. But that doesn’t prevent that recommend you organize your time, plan what to do, and between that define a time of day that is dedicated only to study. It can be in the afternoon after school, can be in the morning before going to school, or can be at night before going to bed, no matter the time, what matters is that you should defined a time to study and you can’t move that time, this will help to discipline your brain and accustom him that in this period of the day must be aware, attentive and concentrated to absorb everything, of course without forgetting small breaks in the study session. Over time you’ll see the results, giving you features that you do better absorb the information, that in that period of time your brain will be more attentive to what he reads or exercises, so you can understand much better than before.

+ Bonus: Organize your times.
For this, the best is do the technique of bullet journal, you can also go to the planner, but personally I like the BJ more, although like I said, I didn’t last long because a I’m really bad in planning constantly, but during the time I did it worked perfect, so I recommend that even if you are just as bad planning constantly, like me, try it. Who knows? Perhaps you become experts in the bullet journal.

Regards! 😄✌💕

“Ah, Arya. You have a wildness in you, child. ‘The wolf blood,’ my father used to call it. Lyanna had a touch of it, and my brother Brandon more than a touch. It brought them both to an early grave.” Arya heard sadness in his voice; he did not often speak of his father, or of the brother and sister who had died before she was born. “Lyanna might have carried a sword, if my lord father had allowed it. You remind me of her sometimes. You even look like her.” “Lyanna was beautiful,” Arya said, startled. Everybody said so. It was not a thing that was ever said of Arya. “She was,” Eddard Stark agreed, “beautiful, and willful, and dead before her time.”

Out-lawyering an Inevitable

(This happened during downtime as sort of an interview-slash-session-zero for a new player to replace a player who’d dropped out.  The new character is an elf cleric whose backstory has him running an apothecary on the side, specializing in reviving the dead.  There were dice rolls involved, but I was not privy to any of them since this was all done on Discord.  The whole party was listening, but the rest of us had our mics muted.  All kibitzing was done in the OOC text channel, but I’m omitting that here since neither participant was reading it at the time.)

DM:  You see what appears to be a construct approaching.  *Dice roll.*  I’m just going to go ahead and give you that it’s an Inevitable.

Cleric:  Marut, I’m guessing?

(Note:  Inevitables are construct outsiders who are built to enforce universal laws; Maruts specialize in dealing with people who cheat death.)

DM:  Very good.  Do you try to run or attack?

Cleric:  Nah, I’m good.  I wait for it to approach.

DM:  *Raises a brow.*  Alright, then.  *Clears his throat and does a creditable Michael Dorn impression for the Marut’s voice.*  “You are Taviel Andaris.”  Statement, not question, by the way.

Cleric:  “I am.  What brings… I would ask what brings you to my apothecary, but I think I already know.”

DM:  “If you expect the charges against you, then you already know of your crime.  You stand accused of denying death its due.  To date you have resurrected four hundred and seventeen people…”

Cleric:  “Um, four hundred twenty-two.  It was a busy week last week.”

DM:  *Without missing a beat.* “…Four hundred and twenty-two people.  My programming is to stop this from happening again.  Your options…”

Cleric:  “Defying death?  Um.  Not guilty, actually.”  Not rolling a bluff check, I’m not bluffing.

DM:  Fine by me, I’m still rolling sense motive.  *Dice roll.*  The Marut looks profoundly dubious.  “You not only confessed to your crime, you corrected my outdated count.  You have already admitted guilt.”

Cleric:  “I did no such thing.  Yes, I specialize in resurrections; no, I am not guilty of keeping anyone from the grave.”

DM:  …I think I see where you’re going with this, but the Marut won’t.  “Your arguments are irrreconcilable.  My programming is to stop this from happening again.  Your options are to accept a geas or to be destroyed.”

Cleric:  “If you wish to place a geas on me to prevent me from, as you phrased it, denying death its due, then you are welcome to do so.  It will not affect my business or business practices.”

DM:  The Marut looks sort of bemused.  “You do understand what a geas is, correct?”

Cleric:  “I can cast them, myself — and break them.  I would not need to break yours to continue my business.”

DM:  *Dice roll, snort.*  It’s not happy with that answer.

Cleric:  *Laughs!* I can make it a lot unhappier, but I’m not set up for this kind of a one-on-one fight.  “Let me explain myself.  How much do you know about my business besides the resurrection count?”

DM:  *Dice roll.*  It scowls at you.  “I will allow this, but be brief.”

Cleric:  “Let me rephrase that question, actually:  How many people have I granted immortality?”

DM:  *Snickers.* I stand corrected, that’s not where I thought you were going with this.  It doesn’t like that answer, but it doesn’t move.  “You have granted no one immortality.”

Cleric:  “And how many people have I brought back to life who were not killed by old age or disease?”

DM:  *Dice roll.*  It gives you a triumphant look at that.  “Three.”

Cleric:  Shit.  Um.  “Those were deliberately administered diseases with the intent of killing the victims, two from traps and one that was later successfully tried as a murder case.  They can not be considered natural deaths.”

DM:  Nice save!  *Dice roll.*  I’ll allow that.

Cleric:  Yes!

DM:  “Discounting that, you have resurrected no one who has died of natural causes.”

Cleric:  “Then how have I cheated death?  It’s natural and even more inevitable than you are.  I’ve only postponed it so that…”  What was that number again, anyway, four-twenty-two?

DM:  Uh, I think so, yeah; close enough.

Cleric:  “…So that four hundred twenty-two people could have a chance to finish lives that would otherwise have been cut short.  I firmly maintain my not-guilty plea.”  And I put my hands on my hips and glare up at it.

DM:  It glares right back at you.  “Your arguments are based on a technicality.”

Cleric:  *Defiantly.* “No.  Your charges are based on a technicality.  My clients will all die.  Eventually.  I cannot change that.”

DM:  *Dice roll.*  …Hm.  *Dice roll.  Snicker.*  Well, then.

Cleric:  What?

DM:  “Your answers have satisfied my programming.  You are free to go.  But be aware:  You actions will be monitored intently.”  *Laughs.* I hate you.  That was supposed to be the start of a fight that I was going to get the rest of the party in on for our next session.  You just broke how I was supposed to introduce you all.  …Who the hell even tries to out-lawyer a god-damned Inevitable in their own area of expertise, anyway…?

autisticvelociraptor  asked:

Tumblr mom, what do you think of Harry Potter? One of my old teachers absolutely insists that I read them, and I tried but ended up highlighting every instance of the word "said" in the first half of the first book instead. The whole thing feels poorly written and I don't know how to reconcile that with the sheer number of people who love the series so much. I'm sure the storyline is fine, but the bland writing is so distracting.

For me, personally, Rowling’s writing has not held up well.

It was great when I was ten and twelve and suddenly reading about magic was cool and not liable to get me shoved into a locker as often, but even by the time the final book came out right before I hit my twenties, it felt…bland isn’t the right word, but rather, meandering.

The repetition of “said” wasn’t quite such a bad thing (as an editor, I’d rather you used “said” than completely fucked up your narrative dialogue by writing like you’re being bludgeoned to death with a thesaurus at your desk) but I was spotting things that could have been said in four paragraphs with some cleverly inserted narrative exposition, that were being said in entire books chapters that I honestly sort of skimmed through because I felt like I was reading an accompanying anthology companion, rather than the final installment to a book series I had been reading for well over a decade at that point.

A while ago I tried to go back and reread the series, and unlike other favorite childhood authors I had enjoyed, such as Tamora Pierce, it did not hold up well.

I’ll be in my 50s and 60s still returning to the Tortall and Circle series every summer, but I doubt I’ll make the effort to reread Harry Potter again. Which is a shame because they were a rather large part of my formative years, both with school friends and in online fandom. I still like the idea of the universe and I live for a lot of the really amazing things other people have done with the HP universe, but I have little desire to read anymore of Rowling’s work, personally.

I tried to read her “adult” novel The Casual Vacancy, and while it had really vivid moments, they were just that, moments—like frozen scenes of color in an otherwise muted world I could not get invested in. She also has a habit of over simplifying things to a degree I find irritating. There’s no real nuance to anything, and even when she tries at subtlety it’s a bit like performing a lobotomy with your kitchen silverware—all spoon and very little delicacy.

I may have perhaps been spoiled to her work by being handed Terry Pratchett novels roughly at around the same age, devouring what was then the entire series in the span of one summer like a mad thing possessed and I’ve been reading and rereading those books for the better part of 20 years now, and I’m still finding things I never noticed before. It’s hard to go back to Rowling after something like that. It’s a very simplistic form of writing—which is no bad thing! children need simple stories that tell them the world is not always what it seems and dark and terrible things can and will happen, but so long as there are good people, the darkness can be defeated. Children, and yes even us adults need that reassurance.

I just happen to think there are better authors out there who are able to reach much deeper emotional depths, with a far greater level of subtlety and skill—some of them are even writers in the Harry Potter fandom, who honestly connect and resonate with me in ways the canon never did. And that’s also sort of the thing to keep in mind with how popular the HP fandom is. The internet was a thing long before Harry Potter first came out, but it was becoming widely available in individual homes around about that time through cheaper dial up and the eventual mainstreaming of broadband. Suddenly fandom spaces were that much easier to be a part of online, and with that came a surge in fan created content (and lawsuits!) and certain popular fandoms positively thrived as a result. I can’t help but feel if HP had come out in the late 80s, it wouldn’t have quite so much the online presence it has now.

So no, it doesn’t surprise me that as a slightly older reader than I was back in 1997, the books don’t quite catch you the way they do younger children. But then I also feel the same way about Tolkein. Dear God I never want to have to read anything written by him again. Love the concept, love the world and the moments of pure shining brilliance and hope it has given me—and the fandom it allowed me to be a part of—but I’ll take Diana Wynne Jones over Tolkein any day, and be far more entertained in the process.

Actually, that’s not a bad idea. Try Jones, or heck, try Pierce. We might not have the same massive online presence, but we’re devoted, and with good reason :)

Little did I know the first time I laid my eyes on you that I was looking at the rest of my life.
If I were to go back in time and warn myself, I’d laugh it off as a cruel joke.
How could the stutter of a person, me be somehow lucky enough to be allowed to love someone like you.
Someone who’s steps are the roses to my garden of happiness
Someone who’s voice is the calm to any storm that might rage in my head
Someone who’s eyes I could look into for an eternity and feel infinite
Someone who’s mind is as addicting as the most illicit of drugs, and just as fun.
Someone like you.
I’ve never been so disillusioned to think that you aren’t perfection. You are. I’ve thought so since the first time I heard your laugh and known so since seeing you get so excited about Ikea. And snow. And babies. And bowling. And a whole lot of other things if we are being honest.
But thats exactly why I love you. I love you because the world is an exciting place when spent with you; and God knows that you make me feel unstoppable.
With you, my days are no longer numbered and my greatest depths are crossed with the distance of my voice to your ears.
With you the 6:00am sun is just a gift to see your face sooner, and the train a chance to think about you.
And think about you I always do.
So I promise to be the best I can be for you. I promise to kill those scary bugs, I promise to midnight dance with you, I promise to hold you when life is just a bit too hard. I promise to close the caps all the way, and I promise to never let a day go by in which I don’t tell you just how much I love you. I love you like plants the sun, the ocean the moon, and the birds the sky. I love you, and I always will.

Hunting’s a total blast until you hit your heat. In between each cycle, you only know how much fun it is to catch a case, to get on the road and feel the rumble of Dean’s car beneath you, all open windows and loud music. The fights are always rough, but in the way that makes you feel strong, in a way that makes your muscles ache with anticipation just to think about it. And of course, there’s the feeling of knowing that you saved someone, that you stopped one small little evil and left the world a little better for it.

But then your heat hits, and you remember. Hunting is not ideal for an Omega.

Let’s talk about oppression.

Hi. I’m a teen. A Pakistani Muslim teen raised by Pakistani Muslim feminist parents. I am a Pakistani girl privileged enough to be born to a family that can afford to send me to an American school, and a family that believes their only daughter is worth a thousand sons. A few years ago, I realised there was a name for the notions I was raised with: feminism. I found feminism on the internet, in cheery pink-hued articles that told me I was beautiful, that I could do anything a man could do, that my body wasn’t something to be objectified.

And while these twee posts were enough to quench my thirst, in time I began to hunger for something more. I found essays on the evils of manspreading, mansplaining, and cis straight white men. This was feminism, then? The idea that men were in fact, inferior to women? I found this belief in webcomics, listicles, joke sites, even TV shows. In comment sections I watched battles unfold: how dare a man suggest these mentalities are toxic? How dare a woman agree with him?

On twitter I’d find women sharing anecdotes about Joe from work, who’d sit sprawled across his chair in a show of dominance, and how in doing that Joe was an oppressor. How the old white man across the street was probably a racist misogynist homophobic Nazi because he was white. How they were oppressed because the man in the meeting talked over them.

Here’s the thing about that. You are not silenced because a man dared to interrupt you. You are not objectified because a man had the audacity to hold a door open for you. You are not oppressed. You are not oppressed.

Spend a day with me. Walk the streets with me. I’ll show you what oppression is. It is a father forcing his daughter to cover her head, instilling in her a hatred for her religion. It is the teenage girl crying tears of mascara as she is escorted to her marriage and given into the hands of her betrothed. It is the transgender woman fearing for her safety because she lives in a country of homophobes.

Suppression is the woman whose husband forbids her from having a life outside her married one. Objectification is the girl sold as a sex slave because her family couldn’t pay their debts. It is not a man beating a woman in a foot race or performers at a strip show. Accompany me to rural Kashmir, where it’s commonplace for girls to be married off at ten, eleven years old. To the village from where our cleaner hails, where the bodies of young women wash up on the shores of the canal.

Talk about how Dave from IT mansplained programming to you to the women who never received an education because their fathers believed it unnecessary for them. Discuss internalised misogyny with the girl who has to listen to people telling her that her brothers are worth more than her. Please try. Debate the gender binary with my parents, who took years of garbage from relatives and friends on why they chose to have a single daughter.

Nobody forced you to get married at fourteen. Nobody told you that you weren’t worth sending to school because bearing children was all you were good for. You never saw the corpses of murdered girls floating in the canal. You are lucky enough to never have to experience that. You are not oppressed. This is not something to be ashamed of. Please be thankful for it. Please know that there are women in the world who would die to be where you are now. You are not oppressed.

Because look at you. You are educated, you were allowed to thrive, you can do what you like to do. Nobody views you as a unit. When you were born, they were just glad they had a baby; they didn’t care about your gender. Growing up, you had access to all the same privileges as boys. Don’t forget that.

I am not oppressed. I am educated in a country where 62% of illiterate children are girls. My father never forced me to cover my head, or stopped me from having friends of the opposite sex. My mother never told young tomboyish me to be more ladylike. I attend a private school, and I have a college fund. I am privileged, and I am not ashamed, but I want to help women in my country. I aim to be a politician or a journalist and use my platform to speak about women’s issues. Someday, I will make a change. And you can too.

Peace.

Let me rant about jungkook for 3 seconds. first of ALL. HOW DARE HE WHISTLE LIKE THAT. WHY WAS HIS JAW LOOKING SEXIER THAN IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE ?! WHO IN THE WORLD ALLOWED HIM TO HAVE THAT DREAMY YET SENSUAL LOOK ON HIS FACE WHILE WHISTLING LIKE THAT ? BRO, EVERY TIME YOU WHISTLE , WE ARE ABOUT TO EXPLODE JUST LIKE A BOMB DOES (get it ? Because ‘make it whistle like a missile bomb’ ) SECOND OF ALL, WHO THE HELL ALLOWED YOU TO BE SMOOTH LIKE THAT. I DO NOT APPROVE. I BLINKED FOR THREE SECONDS AND THIS IS HOW YOU DO ME ??!! I NEVER ASKED TO BE MURDERED, I ONLY WANTED TO LIVE A PEACEFUL LIFE AND HAVE A BIAS WHO CAN CHILL. OH YEAH , I FORGOT .THERE’S NO SUCH THING AS HAVING A BIAS WHO CAN CHILL TF OUT IN THIS BAND. MY HEART HURTS AND YOU’RE TOO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING FOR THIS PLANET. GO AWAY. I LOVE YOU TOO MUCH TO KICK YOUR ASS, SO GO BACK TO DRINKING MILK AND HUGGING YOUR PILLOWS. MY HEART HURTS PPL. PLS TELL ME I’M NOT ALONE IN THIS 😭😭

How we made our DM hate our classes pt. 1

I was a half orc monk in the Ways of the Wicked pathfinder game run by a friend who was a two years above me in college. After avoiding it for about a year, the group finally decides to assault the fort we were sent to take down. I had failed a disguise check (we were given rings that allowed disguise self to be used at will) to look like a guard captain in front of another captain, and ended up alone on a rooftop with him. He would turn out to be the boss of the fort, complete with magic sword and plate armor.

DM: The captain pulls his sword on you and asks who you are. What do you do?

Me: I want to disarm him with my mouth.

DM: … Ok, Roll CMB

ME: *succeeds*

DM: Ok, you rip the sword out of his hands with your mouth and toss it off the building. What now?

Me: How far is it to the walls around the fort?

DM: *checks* About 30 feet down and 20 feet away.

Me: Alright, I’m going to disguise myself as Malf (an npc gunslinger that nearly killed me earlier in the campaign) and jump to the nearest wall.

DM: Really? Not going to… Fine, roll acrobatics.

ME: *rolls 19* That’s 30 total.

DM: HOW!? You need a running start to…

ME: +11 acrobatics and monks have high jump at this level. I always count as having a running start.

DM: DAMN MONKS AND THEIR CRAZY ACROBATICS! Fine, you effortlessly jump across the gap and do a sick roll to land. Roll 3d6 for damage.

ME: Nope, slow fall 30 ft. No damage.

DM: *bangs head on laptop* I hate monks.

Ever since the night Peter hadn’t come to your house because he was taking care of May two weeks ago, he made sure to send you a text every night to tell you he would be coming over. It made you feel guilty for making him feel bad, but you couldn’t help but be relieved every time your phone vibrated with a text from him.

Tonight when he texted you, it read about a car chase that he was going to try to stop. He said that he probably wouldn’t be over until late, and you sighed, moving from your bed to make yourself another cup of coffee to keep your tiredness at bay.

You walked into your kitchen, thankful both your parents were out of town on a  business trip so you could make all the noise you wanted to. You turned the coffee machine on, waiting for it to heat up, and you opened the cupboard to take out the bag of coffee grains.

You were met with an empty cupboard. You groaned and threw your head back in annoyance, realizing you would have to go out and buy more coffee. Knowing Peter wouldn’t arrive for a while, you decided to take the trip to the convenience store. You went into your room, opening your bedroom window just in case Peter finished earlier than he said he was. You grabbed some money and slipped on a sweatshirt and shoes before venturing off into the dark night.

You warily watched your surroundings as you made your way down the multiple streets towards the convenience store, knowing that someone who Peter would usually go after on a night like this could be lurking around you.

Your nerves stayed on edge until you reached the store with the glowing “Open 24/7″ sign on the door. You allowed yourself to calm down as you walked inside, murmuring a small ‘hello’ to the half-asleep person at the counter who startled awake when the bell over the door rang. You calmly strolled the aisles, looking for the coffee, not in a rush so you could try to waste the time until Peter would be done with his crime-fighting for the night.

When you finally found the aisle with the multiple brands of coffee, you grabbed the bag you always bought and made your way to the counter. The employee only looked mildly annoyed that you had woken him from his nap, but you chose to ignore his slight glare as you reached into your sweatshirt pocket to fish out the ten dollar bill you had grabbed before leaving the house.

You pulled it out and handed it over to him, and your hand was still in mid-air when you heard a loud screech outside of the store. Both yours and the employee’s heads turned towards the front of the store to look through the large glass windows. The sight in front of the store made you gasp, and the money in your hand fell to the ground beneath you.

Two cars sped through the street coming towards the convenience store, and behind them, was Spiderman. He swung from buildings, trying to catch up to the fast-paced cars. He reached the one closest to him and knocked the driver out, but the car lost control without anyone operating it and slammed into the first car. The cars neared closer and closer to the convenience store as the shock of the second car slamming into the first one registered onto the first driver’s face. The surprise distracted him, causing him to turn around and look at the damage, but he didn’t have enough time to turn before the convenience store doors were right in front of his face.

Spiderman was behind them, trying to web the car backwards before it could make impact, but it was too late.

You watched as the cars neared closer, and you tried to run to the other side of the store so you wouldn’t be in the direct line of damage, but it seemed as though it happened in seconds.

The cars were too quick, and you watched them smash through the storefront and into the first three aisles of the store. You were in the fourth aisle. The impact caused a domino effect, each aisle falling backwards onto each other, and the third falling onto you. You fell to the ground, yelping as you slammed to the ground and felt an immediate, painful weight on top of your back.

You began to panic when you tried to move but couldn’t budge. You tried to lift yourself up, but the weight of two aisles-worth of shelves on top of you was too much for your strength. The panic led to fear, and the fear led to tears forming in your eyes as you still struggled to move.

“Help!” You yelled, beginning to sob when you heard nothing in response. You were sure the boy at the counter had escaped through the back door. You were all alone.

“Help!” You screamed louder, hoping for someone to hear you. You knew Peter wouldn’t just leave something like this as his duty as Spiderman. He would have to come in and see if anyone was hurt. He would have to.

“Help, please,” you said, the volume in your voice lowering as your sobs overwhelmed you. “Peter,” you cried even harder, waiting for him to come and save you. “Peter, please,” you began to hyperventilate as the thought of being trapped under here for a prolonged period of time entered your mind.

You sobbed and cried and yelled for who knows how long until you heard his voice. “Hello? Is anyone in here? Hello?” He sounded panicked as well, and you were sure he had heard the loud sobbing from inside the store with the enhanced hearing his suit gave him.

“Peter!” You sobbed loudly, and you were met with silence for a few moments, until you heard a soft, “(Y/N)?”

“Peter,” you replied, still sobbing, but you began to feel relief after hearing his voice. “Peter, help me. Please.”

You heard him rustle around, trying to find the source of your voice. “I’m coming, (Y/N), it’s okay. I’m right here.”

You continued to cry until you heard him come closer to you. “I’m gonna lift this up now, okay?” He said with a calm voice, though you were sure you could hear some panicked undertones mixed in.

“Okay,” you said, voice shaking and cracking. When you felt your back be relieved of the weight, you expected to be relieved of pain along with it. You were wrong. If anything, the pain was worse without the heavy weight to distract you from it, and you cried out as various spots in your back began to throb with pain.

“Are you okay?!” Peter asked, the panic more evident in his voice.

“It hurts,” you cried, moving your sore arm to hold your back now that it wasn’t trapped down anymore. You heard a loud crash and looked up to see Peter had pushed the two aisles to the opposite direction. He knelt down next to you, and although you couldn’t see his facial expression through the mask, you could tell by his shaky breathing that he was worried.

“I’m gonna try to pick you up now, just stay still for me,” he whispered and wrapped one arms around your legs. He wrapped the other around your back, and you cried out again, but he didn’t move his arm. “I’m sorry, I’m sorry,” he whispered, the panic in his voice now replaced with heavy guilt. He stood up with you in his arms, and the movement made the pain in your back even worse, but you bit your lip to try to silence the whimpers. You continued to cry. “It’s okay, you’re okay. I’m right here, (Y/N),” he whispered to you, but you kept on crying.

“(Y/N), (Y/N), look at me for a second,” he said, and you looked up at him to see him pulling up the mask to his forehead. “I’ve got you, okay? I’m right here with you. Now stop crying,” he began to whisper, and he pressed his forehead against yours. This was the closest you had ever been to him, and it served as a good distraction. Your tears began to stop. “Just hold onto me, okay?”

You hummed a quiet “mhm”, and Peter pulled his forehead away from where it was resting against yours. He pushed his mask back over his face, and as he ran out of the store, you looked at the damage behind you. You noticed both of the men webbed inside of their respective cars, one conscious and one not, with a note on the first car. You couldn’t bring it in yourself to try to read it.

Peter adjusted his grip on you to only one arm wound tightly around your waist as he used the other to swing from building to building quickly. You buried your head in the crook of his neck, not wanting to see the distance between the two of you and the ground. You kept your head tucked into his neck, and when you felt him softly land on ground, you looked up to be met with your bedroom.

Peter gently set you down on your bed, and you winced when his arm grazed your back as he set you down. He turned around, ripping his mask off his face and throwing it onto your desk. He turned on your lamp and closed your bedroom door. He leaned his head against the door, his back facing you, breathing heavily. He stayed that way for a few minutes, and although it may have been silent to him, your heartbeat in your ears was beating too loudly for you to have realized he began to speak.

He had turned around and was now looking at you with furrowed eyebrows and watery eyes. You turned your head toward him. “Did you say something?”

“Turn on your stomach,” he said, walking to your bedside. You followed his words, grimacing as you turned around. You breathed heavily, clenching your teeth to not make any noises that showed your pain. “Can I lift your shirt up a little bit?” He asked, and when you nodded, you felt his hands lift your sweatshirt up a small amount. You suddenly felt nervous, and your bedroom felt all too small for only the two of you.

Peter breathed out heavily from behind you and you turned your head to look at him. You saw the guilt evident on his face. “I’m so sorry, (Y/N),” he whispered, clearly trying not to cry. “This is all my fault.”

“Take a picture of it, I want to see it,” you said, handing him your phone from your sweatshirt pocket. You noticed it was now slightly cracked, and you sighed, knowing it was from the impact of falling to the ground. He took it from you, taking the picture and handing it back to you.

You gasped when you saw the image on the screen. Your back was covered in small cuts everywhere, and the entirety of it was already starting to become purple. You sighed, turning around again and wincing. “It’s not your fault, Peter.”

He shook his head, opening his mouth to speak, but he closed it when you took his hand in yours. You tugged his arm towards you, signaling that you wanted him to get into bed next to you. He let go of your hand and turned your lap off before stealthily crawling over you without touching you. He laid down beside you. You turned on your side to lay your head on his chest, and he wrapped his arm around your shoulders when you did so.

You didn’t care that this was probably crossing every boundary you had set in your mind about him, but you didn’t care. You needed the comfort right now.

“Thank you for saving me, Peter,” you whispered into the darkness. You heard him sniffle from above you, and you wiped at your cheeks to get rid of the stains of dried tears.

“I’m sorry this happened to you,” he whispered in reply. “I never wanted me being Spiderman to harm you in any way. This happened because of me.”

“No, it didn’t,” you said in return, slapping him lightly on the chest to try to make light of the situation. He didn’t laugh, and you sighed. “You were trying to get dangerous people off the street. And you succeeded, you caught them. It just took a slightly wrong turn. But everyone is okay.”

“You got hurt,” his voice cracked and he turned his head away from you to face the wall.

“I’m okay, Pete,” you whispered, lifting your head up and lightly turning his head towards yours with your hand. “You were the one who got me out of there. You saved me, okay?”

He sniffled again, a tear falling down his cheek. You wiped it away.

“Why are you crying?” You were still whispering, and the two of you still stared into each other’s eyes.

“I don’t like seeing you hurt,” he said, and looked down to avoid your eyes. You thought you could see a light blush on his cheeks, but it was too dark to tell. “Hearing you cry and yell my name like that, it just- I don’t like seeing you hurt.”

“Peter,” you said, slightly louder. He looked back up at you. “It’s just some bruises. They’ll go away.”

“Yeah,” he said, nodding, trying to convince himself. “Yeah, you’re right.”

He looked away again, clenching his jaw to prevent himself from crying anymore. You rested your head back on his chest, listening to his heartbeat through the suit. The two of you laid there in silence, resting, and as you began to feel yourself doze off in his arms, he moved from under you. He began to take his arm away from around your shoulders, and you were wide awake instantly.

“Where are you going?” You asked groggily, pressing a hand down on his chest to keep him from moving. You couldn’t see him in the darkness, but you were sure he was bewildered.

“I, uh, I was gonna head back home,” Peter whispered.

You moved your hand up to his shoulder, grasping it lightly. “Not yet. Please just stay a little longer,” you whispered in response. “Please.” You could see him nodding back.

“Okay,” he said softly, wrapping his arm back around your shoulders and resting his head back on the pillows.

“Okay,” you said, resting your head on his chest again. You dozed back off, and the last thing you could remember was Peter pressing a kiss to your forehead and whispering, “Goodnight.”

When you woke up in the morning, he was still next to you.

Day 4: Favourite Trope

-

My go to tropes funny enough are royalty aus and high school but we already have that so I went with DOCTORS

Prom is a paediatrician
I kind of imagine he saw some cruelty and didnt really assess the situation
So he and Noct now have a puppy
He was pretty severely beaten for his troubles
And imagine Prom being brought in with swelling in his brain from all the kicks
And it takes him a while to wake
But every doctor in the place is like - Not our Prompto
Noct is dropping in to him whenever he has a spare moment
Obv he’s too personally involved to have been allowed to treat him
But he’s in good hands
And when he wakes
He looks at Noct and goes
‘Who are you?’
And then cracks up
'YOUR FACE’
Noct would pinch him
He wants to know if the puppy was okay and Noct doesnt tell him its at home
Being babysat by Iris
So its a surprise when he finally gets him home
Their furbaby
I kind of imagine Noct talking to the dog
'You better appreciate what he did for you’
'Youre very lucky you know’

anonymous asked:

I feel so stupid lol ☺️ but i really need to ask this, i am 16-17 and i wanna be more girly and like lil'woman, how can i? Thank you soooo much again 💕

Oh! You want to be more “girly” ? Well, I’m going to take in fact what girly normally means in this sense and use it like that ahhah! Don’t feel stupid, though.

First thing’s first:

You have your own style that is unique to you…etc. You don’t have to be something else, though if you are currently not happy with yourself and are working on self improvement, I encourage you to do so. Let’s start with some basics on what “girly” or “feminine” is!

Girly is basically acting in very feminine and liking feminine things. However, there is MUCH more to it than just the look. I’m going to start off with the more “mature” side of things, as you said you wanted to be more like a woman (which includes maturity) and then we can work on other things! It’s not just a style, it’s a mindset. The “fuck you i’m going to get my goals” mindset.

Embracing yourself:

/Note: None of this is set in stone. This is just my opinion on to help her grow into a stronger and more mature woman.

  • Do not take shit. Walk with your head high and smile. If someone puts you down, ask yourself: “Is this a logical problem or is it opinionated?” If it is opinionated, ignore it. If it is logical and backed with evidence and reasoning, take it into factor and make note to work on that.
  • Learn to treat yourself. It’s okay to want to spend a little extra money on yourself sometimes.
  • Be independent. Don’t rely on others to get things done for you. Your homework is your homework. Your job is your job. Be independent and don’t rely on them to do it for you!
  • Treat yourself and others with respect. I have a rule, instead of just “you have to earn my respect” I say: “I respect until you disrespect, and at that point, I drop all respect I’ve had for you.”
  • Fight immaturity with maturity. If someone is being messy as hell, fight back with maturity. Give no fucks. Show no mercy. When they call you a name and try to fight, if you want to piss them off AND come off as mature, say something like: “Honestly, I have goals to reach. I don’t have time for you to be immature and try to ruin that for me.” And walk off.
  • Don’t be afraid to break sometimes. It happens to the strongest of people. There is no way I could count how many times I sat in bed at night trying to stop crying. Cry, and afterwards, take a deep breath and tell yourself that you’ll get through this.
  • DO NOT let people dictate who you are. Don’t let these little boys or girls tell you that you need to look like this or that. Don’t let them tell you who you should be. Not even your parents are allowed to tell you who to be. If they try, pretend to obey but do the exact opposite. Be who YOU are.
  • Get your schoolwork done, babe. Seriously this is important, it isn’t about the grades. It’s about furthering your knowledge and showing everyone that you can do what they think you can’t.
  • Have fun! Have fun if you want, but be safe.
  • Do everything with confidence, even if you have to fake it!
  • Follow your passions. Maybe you like dance, singing art, makeup or whatever else. Do it.
  • Remember that if anyone ever says you fucked them, that only gives you power.
  • If you’re giving an assignment wednesday and are told you need it finished by friday, work on it wednesday. Cut off all distractions and work on that assignment. Afterwards, write down everything you didn’t understand. The next day, spend time learning about what you didn’t understand and proofread the assignment 3 times. This applies for ALL days.
  • Exams coming up soon? Stop staying up all night studying. Study in 10-15 minute intervals with 5 minute breaks. Quiz yourself every hour to find your weak links and then study those. What are you scared of failing most? Focus on that.
  • You’re 16-17. You know about sex. You know how it works. You may have already have sex. This is okay. All I ask of you is to be safe. Do NOT rely on someone to have condoms, if you need, go buy them yourself. Know how to do things safely. Remember: Kink isn’t spontaneous, it’s safe words. Anal isn’t a quick slip, it’s reading articles on how to do it and lube. Be safe, be real.
  • In the case that you get pregnant: Breathe. Make your choices. Do what you need to do and always remember that you can run in my askbox and talk to me about everything. I will always be here to listen. You can also read articles and such on parenting advice, how to do it as a teenager..etc.
  • I’m telling you the above because I’ve had friends who got pregnant at 15-16 or 17 and didn’t know what to do.
  • Also:
  • Don’t slut shame  or talk bad about girls who want to have sex and have lots of it. Instead, encourage them to do it safely.
  • Don’t put anyone down that isn’t as popular as you. Bring them up.
  • Being sweet will get you a long way.
  • Act twice your age if you want to look really mature in front of all the teachers and shit. Literally you can read articles..etc. on maturity.
  • Remember that maturity does not mean you can’t have fun.
  • If you feel depressed…etc. talk to someone. Don’t be silent.
  • One of the first signs I ever had of anorexia was that I craved the disorder. Which means I literally wanted to be it. Little did I know it was going to drag me through hell. If you have these thoughts, get help.
  • Do not be afraid of going to get help from a professional.

Neptune - place of your hidden potential

Neptune is a planet of illusion and confusion. It is very mysterious place in our chart. It brings people a lot of disappointment due to Neptune’s very enigmatic nature. I believe the house our Neptune is placed holds a great potential that is hidden there and takes time to fully understand. What makes you confused and vulnerable with a little bit of work can also be a source of your great strength.

The House Neptune is shows when you are the most vulnerable. This is a place of confusion, place that you have always a problem to tell the reality from illusion. The way to master your Neptune placement is to recognize your weakness and allow yourself to be vulnerable in this area. Be aware of what brings you confusion. Awarness is your greatest weapon. This is what Neptune truly wants to tell you. Be aware.

1st House - be aware that your weakness lays in your perception of the world and yourself. You may feel lost in life, confused about how you see the world. You may not see it for what it is and people may see you not who you really are. Don’t idolize this world. Don’t idolize your views. Don’t let your artistic nature cloud your judgment. Also, don’t be afraid to be emotional. Don’t be afraid to show your sensitivity. Use amazing psychic gifts you have. Finding confidence in life may be hard for you since your perception of self is delluded but it doesn’t mean it’s impossible. You just have many sides to yourself and you can’t be defined with one word and that’s okay. Be a chameleon; don’t limit yourself to one. Also, your natural optimism can make you a little bit naive so you need to watch out for people because some of them will have no problem using your good heart against you so take care of yourself and trust your intuition more.

2nd House - be aware that your weakness lays in your self-worth. It is what brings you the biggest confusion. You may feel vague about your self-worth. You may feel confused about material things. You need to understand potential that lays in your soul and the practical use of your imagination. You also need to understand that material things are not the biggest evil on the world. They are also not your biggest need. It will always bring you confusion. Find balance!  Be aware of your money (abundance or their lack) in your life. Use them constructively on what you really need. If you can, make your art to give you profit.

3rd House - be aware that your weakness lays in the processing of your words. It can often feel like the words you are looking for in your mind are hidden behind a mist, like they are there but you can’t find them and use them. You can also feel at the moments that you are a better story-teller than everyone else in the room and desperately try to prove it. Don’t idolize the power of your mind but also don’t ignore it. Be aware that you can get an access to a beautiful inner encyclopedia but still you need to make an effort to check yourself while using it. Be aware of the voices you will hear, ideas you will get and be open to messages from your head but be selective of how you will use them. You can take people to other dimensions with your you words, you are highly creative but you must be aware that you need to check things twice before saying them because sometimes your words can be really confusing. Focus on making yourself more clear while speaking, avoid using unecessary words.

4th House - be aware that your weakness lays in your roots. Family always can bring you a lot of confusion. Many times you don’t see your family for who they really are, you probably idolize them a lot just like your chilhood. You may feel truly lost at your core, not knowing who you are and being too dependent on your roots. Truth is, that yes,  you can become emotionally independent person who is also able to help others to see through their own delusions. You just need to make yourself your strong foundation and set clear boundaries with your family. Your imagination make them seem better that they really are. You need to remember that your home and people who make it are part of your life not the center. Family life will never be as perfect as you wish but it doesn’t mean it’s not going to be good. Appreciate what you can have.

5th House - be aware that your weakness lays in your vision.  You idolize everything. Romance, people, children, hobbies… Everywhere where you can express yourself and follow your vision of “something perfect”.  You just try to run from reality this way. Just be aware perfect love  or a child doesn’t exist. Express yourself artistically, yes, but don’t let your imagination cloud your judgment. Life here is not a Hollywood movie but it doesn’t mean it’s not beautiful. Use your imagination in your creations but don’t let it control your love life (and other aspects). You are extremely creative. Use it wisely.

6th House -  be aware that your weakness lays in working. You love to help others. Animals, people… Your service is needed but is also a place of your delusion. You may get lost in your job. You need to take responsibility and do your work in whatever you choose to but remember about taking care of yourself too. Also, you should pay more attention to deadlines. You can get lost so you need to remember about passing time and other details. You are really responsible and devoted, don’t overdo yourself but also try to look at yourself (especially your health) realistically. Getting a flu won’t kill you but don’t ignore it either. Keep yourself in check.

7th House -  be aware your weakness lays in your  relationships. Whether they are of romantic nature or platonic; you may appear as a very confusing person to others and others are like that to you too. You may have problem with recognizing people who have bad influnece on you, you may idolize them and you can be too dependent on others. There is always something very entangled in your partnerships and you need to recognize that and stop idolizing people in your life. You need to directly adress those issuses. There is a chance for you to see relationships with people clear, as they are. You will become more confident and more independent as a person. Just stay aware of your relationships and don’t let them define you.

8th House - your weakness is tied to taboo topics. You may become obsessed with sensitive topics like death and sex.  You may feel you lack understanding of those and  try obsessively to get information in those areas. You may feel confused and feel you are truly not living your life here on Earth because you may focus too much on matters connected to the other world. You need to be aware that  delving into dangerous matters with that kind of passion may not bring you what you want and just make you feel more lost in life. Use knowledge you gain in constructive way. Don’t hoard it, it can cause you more pain. Share it with others. Don’t idolize taboo. Focus on mundane things too. Come back from the dead, your world is here.

9th House -  your weakness lays in your philosophy. You may feel confused about your beliefs and be easily influenced by others in this area. Whether you are more into spirituality or religion, any area involving higher realms seems to be bringing confusion to you. This also apply to higher education. You may have problem with finding out what you want to study and you can become perpetual student or reject idea of studying at all. You may have problem with describing your life philosophy and often change beliefs. You can become a fantastic teacher for yourself and others. You have great psychic abilities. Don’t let this confusion stop you from spiritual development.

10th House - be aware that your weakness lays in your social position. You  feel confused about your position in the world you may feel lost on your life path and you may appear to others as this always indecisive person in those matters. Be aware that feeling of being lost in life happens to everyone. You need to remember about what you truly want to achieve and understand that it will take time. Don’t idolize achievement. Follow it but don’t forget about other important things in life. You will be at the top of a social ladder. You will inspire others to work hard for your goals. Just be aware that outer sucess is not the goal end in life.

11th House - your vulnerability lays in your sense of belonging.
Confusion is tied to your need to be a part of a group. You may idolize them a lot. You may idolize society a lot and see no flaws in how it functions.  You may also do that to your friends. You need to stop looking at people through pink glasses. Remember that humanity is flawed. Be aware of that  being a human means making  mistakes. You can be a strong individual who can do a lot of good for people and society but you need to remember about the fact that society is built from individuals who just like you, are only humans. Allow them to be.

12th House - your weakness lays in your isolation. You may feel very helpess and confused, you may feel you are not safe in this world and you may try to delve into another to find your inner security. You isolate yourself from this world and it not only brings you more confusion but it is also a source of your pain. You can’t run from yourself. You are extremely gifted person. You have amazing ability to reach higher dimensions but you shouldn’t do that in order to avoid pain. Be aware of the mundane world and try to stay more connected with it. You won’t regret it. Our world is painful but you are a part of it. And people like you make it more beautiful.

In retrograde
- you may have a problem with accepting your vulnerability due to the aversion in immersing into the more spiritual side of yourself. You are a very private person and you dislike showing  vulnerability but it runs deep in you and you cannot reject this part of yourself.

A beautiful friend of mine who wishes to stay anonymous drew some kallura art for me and has allowed me to share it with you all! <3

“While Kallura is not necessarily my personal ship, @ashterism‘s shance fae au (an au which is supposed to have these two as a side pairing to shance) made the idea of fae!Keith and hunter!Allura teaming up look like a fun concept to draw, and thus this piece was born…! Drawn on my android phone. Gift for a friendo who really likes this ship.” - anonymous buddy.

The Proposal

“Oh, look, Draco. It’s Mr. O’Sullivan, the Arithmancer. We should introduce ourselves,” Harry said in an overly-chipper tone.

Draco eyed his boyfriend speculatively over his glass of champagne. Harry usually hated Ministry events such as this, and he hated meeting the people there even more. Draco did not for one second believe that Harry wanted to meet Mr. O’Sullivan, especially considering that the man’s job was one of the most boring in the Wizarding World.

“Should we now?” Draco asked suspiciously, raising an eyebrow.

“I just said we should, didn’t I?” Harry kept talking in that annoyingly buoyant way and Draco rolled his eyes.

“If you insist, love.”

Harry and Draco crossed the crowded room, Harry’s hand placed possessively on Draco’s lower back. The smile on Harry’s face was about a mile wide when they reached Mr. O’Sullivan. Draco was smiling too, but not in the manic way that Harry was, his was simply a polite nice-to-meet-you smile.

“Mr. O’Sullivan?” Harry said and the middle-aged man who had been gazing out the window turned to face the two gentlemen.

“Yes? Oh, my. It’s you.” O’Sullivan’s eyebrows lept up to where his hairline should’ve been, had he not been bald. Draco’s smile widened almost imperceptibly, as he found it quite amusing when people twice his age were awed to be in the presence of his boyfriend.

“Yes, it’s me,” Harry responded. “I’ve heard that you’re a very talented Arithmancer and I wanted to introduce myself.”

O’Sullivan turned a horrid shade of scarlet as he said, “Oh, my. Oh, my. That’s very kind of you, Mr. Potter, but I’m just one of many Arithmancers in the world. But you, Mr. Potter, there’s only one of you. It’s such an honor to meet you.” O’Sullivan gazed admirably at Harry and only when Draco cleared his throat did he seem to realize that Harry was not alone. “Oh dear. I’m sorry. It’s an honor to meet you as well, Mr. …”

“Malfoy. Draco Malfoy,” Draco said, forcing himself to ignore the way O’Sullivan’s eyes widened as he realized that Harry Potter was accompanying an ex-Death Eater.

When O’Sullivan failed to reply, Harry spoke up, “He’s my fiancé.”

It was now Draco’s turn for his eyebrows to rise to his hairline and his eyes to widen. He and Harry weren’t engaged. If they were, Draco was fairly certain he would know about it.
