Plant of the Day

Saturday 19 December 2015

The amazing fruits and seeds of Magnolia x soulangeana ‘Lennei Alba’ (saucer magnolia). This large deciduous shrub has a spreading habit and is grown for its large, white, fragrant, cup-shaped flowers which appear on bare stems in spring. However, at this time of year the fruit look as dramatic as the flowers all those months ago!

'Thank you’ to Marks Hall Arboretum, Essex, for opening just for the Writtle College students of garden and landscape design for our annual festive season visit - it was great as usual.
