A Japanese snowbell tree is blooming in the bottommost color garden. The color gardens are largely derelict - only one and a half of the original terraces remain as part of Untermyer Park and Gardens.  We have cleared them of underbrush and hope to revitalize them at some point in the future. The remainder of the color gardens are on the property of the neighboring St. John’s Riverside Hospital.  This Styrax japonicus must be the descendant of one of Samuel Untermyer’s plantings.
