Straight White Boy Problem #1000

me: I’m so SICK of Megan not texting me back! and NOBODY wants to play basketball right now. at least Jason wants to play fifa with me later but I have to eat in 30 mins bc my mom is picking me up chipotle for dinner and i KNOW she is going to forget the guac……Why is the world completely against me?

everybody: the world is against….you? there are more things going on in the world than just…you. straight white boys like you don’t have THAT many problems….

me: *thinks about all of my problems* hahaha well i disagree with that…

everybody: …Straight White Boys don’t have as many problems compared to any other group of people and, realistically, usually benefit from societal norms that are set up in their favor

me: oh…………wait……i guess i really don’t have that many problems compared to everybody else. while there are some things that are issues in my life, it is up to MYSELF to overcome my own issues instead of complaining about them. and while some problems are out of my control, i have to react to these dilemmas in a positive way so that I can better myself and better others around me as well. Knowing this, i think im ready to move on, ready to do bigger things, ready to contribute to society. i’m finally here.

What if FDR lived through his 4th term?

Don’t expect a brave new world or anything like that, I think a lot of things would be very similar. FDR’s health would still be poor and the strain of the job was clearly getting to him simply from a health standpoint, so he was not going to run for a fifth term.

FDR commissioned the Manhattan Project, he would drop the bomb as surely as Truman would, and even though he called Stalin “Uncle Joe” during WWII when the U.S. and the Soviet Union were allies, the Cold War is inevitable. FDR was not going to sacrifice ties to Europe for greater ties to the Soviet Union, so I’d imagine things proceeding much as they did in our own history.

There’s still going to be a Red Scare in the United States after the loss of China, so don’t think for a second that McCarthy and Hoover aren’t going to get up to old tricks with FDR in the White House. I don’t see socialism catching on in the United States during the specter of the Cold War.

What could be drastically different would be his policy toward the armed forces and Korea. FDR wasn’t anything of the budget hawk that Truman was, so he probably would have had a much larger commitment to the UN-led forces in Korea. MacArthur still handles Inchon, but the question of whether FDR would treat differently with China, or whether China would have intervened in the Korean War all the same. I doubt FDR would let MacArthur nuke China, so I’d imagine it would be the same.

The Presidency would still expand the scope of its powers drastically, including adopting the nuclear first-strike option as MAD and deterrence still become the prime stances of the Soviet Union and the United States. FDR had always embraced the expansion of the executive branch’s power, so I don’t see him changing that. FDR is leaving office before Khrushchev assumes the Premiership, so speculating on any foreign policy relationship between these two leaders would be pointless.

Ultimately, I do not see much in the way of changes from a foreign policy standpoint. FDR had his successor in Truman. But I would ask @racefortheironthrone for domestic policy changes, because given FDR’s focus on more domestic matters, that would be the area with the greatest potential changes.

Thanks for the question, Anon.

hey alice! i really want to discuss white privilege in my novel and now i am kinda afraid that i will fuck this up. like, there's this one character who likes photography and has a blog for it and when she asks for opinions of her photos a black girl suggests that she could use more diverse models and she starts to realize how she never thought about it and everything? i really like the idea but now i'm afraid it's totally dumb

(the writing white privilege anon) ALSO, I am afraid that it would be too much about how poc feel about white privilege and them not being represented in media. i mean, i am white and i don’t know how far i can go with this and what’s okay and what’s not, so yeah, I think my question is, wether you think that’s okay or not

It’s a dangerous game to try and write about race in a serious, thorough, and accurate way when you yourself have had no experience of racial discrimination. I’d advise against it, but it has been done. The risk you’re taking is believing that you yourself completely understand the extent of discrimination POC face, and the pain that they feel, and you’re expressing your own views and opinions about it through their voices in your book. It’s a heavy risk, and it would be very easy to write something harmful, so think carefully about whether you want to do it.

You complain and are so negative. You are not happy in life in it shows in your blog. Black women are angry at the Kardashians, black men, or white people. We don't care about them and that's something you need to start doing. Negativity gets you no where. -Black woman disappointed in your blog post

I’m talking about people who don’t appreciate or steal from black women. It’s complaining, but I’m not complaining about spilled milk, so as a black woman, I feel like I have a right to complain. I’m trying to open people’s eyes and show them the truth. If you think how black men treat black women or how the Kardashians/white people steal from black women are okay, I don’t see how you can even call yourself a black woman. Also, please don’t speak for others when you say “we” because I seen more black women agree with me than you, fyi. Next time you have something to say to me, make sure you’re not anonymous. Thank you and have a blessed day. -Black woman disappointed in a black woman whose coming at her because of her talk in injustice

Hey, this may be stupid but I was just wondering. Would it be inappropriate or insensitive to make my main characters poc if I'm white?? I don't want to misrepresent or cause any offense. Love your blog btw. Thanks!

As long as you don’t portray them in a stereotypical or offensive way, it’s perfectly fine.

I’m really into this essay I’m working on about the deliberate ambiguity of the boundaries between ‘non-fiction’ and ‘fiction’ narratives within postmodern literature. I’m not doing a traditional dissertation but if I was I think I would do it on this.

me being really happy that there are going to be two prominent southeast asian women in the star wars universe, one of whom is a new lead, but also being terrified that they will be reduced to love interests for finn and poe, conveniently pairing off all the characters of color, which will in turn be used as an excuse to sideline them in favor of the white characters’ storylines

i don’t have a good reaction img someone add one for me please

Sally Yates will testify she warned White House about Michael Flynn’s connection to Russia

  • Former acting Attorney General Sally Yates will testify before a Senate panel next week that she warned the White House that Michael Flynn could be compromised by Russian blackmail (CNN)
  • Yate’s testimony will be in direct conflict with President Donald Trump’s version of events. According to Business Insider, Trump previously claimed he was not aware that Flynn had discussed United States sanctions on Russia with Russia’s ambassador to the U.S. during his presidential transition.
  • Sources told CNN, Yates traveled to Washington for a private meeting on January 26, three weeks before Flynn’s resignation, with White House counsel Don McGahn and told him Flynn was lying about his meetings with Russian Ambassador Sergei Kislyak.
  • Additionally, sources said, Yates expressed “serious concerns” to McGahn and suggested Flynn could be fired. Read more (5/2/17 9 PM)

Garlic Bird Oyakodon from Toriko

@hungryleow, the Bottomless Pit and I all agree that this is the most delicious oyakodon we have ever eaten!

Ingredients (for 3-4)

  • 3-4 boneless chicken thighs (or 1 Garlic Bird)
  • 1 ½ Garlic bunches. (Yes bunches, not individual cloves. Omit if using Garlic Bird.  :P)
  • 3 tbsp soy sauce (for marinating)
  • ¼ cup cooking sake (for marinating)
  • 1 onion
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce (for sauce)
  • 1/3 cup chicken broth
  • 6 eggs (or 1 Ten-yolk Egg)
  • 3 pieces korean seasoned laver/seaweed
  • 2 cups rice (180ml x 2)

(Hey look! A picture of me chopping onions! Finally!)

  1. Chop boneless thighs into bite-sized pieces.
  2. Dice Garlic
  3. Marinate meat with the 3tbsp of soy sauce, sake, an garlic for at least an hour. (Overnight works best!)
  4. (After the meat is done marinating)
  5. Set rice to cook in a rice cooker. (If you are using a pot, the ratio is 1.1-1.2 for water, and takes about 20 mins to cook.)
  6. Slice onions! (Like the picture above.)
  7. Take out the meat from the marinade (don’t throw it away) and grill/ pan fry until brown and set aside.
  8. Pour in the remaining soy sauce, marinade, and broth into the pan.
  9. Throw in the onion and simmer till translucent.
  10. Beat eggs.
  11. The rice should be done by about now, so separate it into bowls and crumble seasoned laver over it!
  12. Put the chicken into the pan, and pour the egg over.
  13. Cover the pan and let the egg cook, for about 1-2 mins. It should still be slightly soft. Runny is fine too.
  14. Put it over the rice and enjoy!
