which is not surprising... i know

anonymous asked:

Why do people like Bakugou? I've not finished the series yet, but does he get a redemption arc or mellow out or something later on? Idk I'd like to know why the guy who told Deku to kill himself and bullied him and others has so much love.

y’know, the mangaka himself, horikoshi, once said in an interview he’s actually surprised at how much people ended up loving bakugou, because he was written to be such a horrible, unlikable person. and well, i mean, he is!! but imo, unlikable people can make for some of the most interesting characters in fiction.

first things first, bakugou is a very problematic individual, there’s simply no denying that. he’s loud, obnoxious, aggressive, extremely rude, and yes, he once even told deku to kill himself, which is a truly despicable thing to do. but something that’s very important to understand about all this is that he’s actually very rarely, if ever, praised or rewarded for this disgusting behaviour. his rude outbursts are, more often than not, played for laughs at his expense, his callous actions have cost him on numerous occasions (and it’s happening more as the story progresses), and almost nobody in the class likes him as a person. everybody thinks he’s horrible and unpleasant to be around, and his old friends from middle-school are even shown calling him out shortly after telling deku to kill himself, saying that he went overboard. (as well as deku remarking to himself that it was a very stupid and awful thing to say).

but in spite of all his terrible, negative traits, this boy is also really strong, and smart as hell. he’s got the 3rd highest grades in the whole class, meaning he’s serious about his school work, and he’s unshakably committed to his goal of becoming the strongest hero, and he’s got the strength, fighting skill, and drive to back it all up. he’s constantly trying his absolute best, and while his UA classmates all think he’s a complete asshole, they DO respect his strength, his keen intellect, his skill for tactics and battle, his passion for victory, and it actually inspires them to get them fired up, wanting to do the best that they can do as well, whether they like him as a person or not.

in answer to your question, i think one of the biggest factors playing into the fans love of his character is his backstory. he doesn’t have your typical tragic backstory that an angry, aggressive character of his archetype usually has. there’s no dark, traumatic past. no villains killed his family or anything like that.

basically, bakugou is mentally ill.

katsuki bakugou was a gifted child who was told constantly from a young age that his quirk was amazing, that he was amazing, and he grew up believing it, believing he was better than others, and it warped him. he grew into a self obsessed, cruel, obnoxious child with a superiority complex, believing himself to be the best and that everyone else around him was just trash. his ego, so twistedly convinced of his own ability and superiority, he detested the idea of ever needing help from anybody, which fed strongly into his hatred and, yes, fear of deku, the only person in his life who ever treated him differently.

“you looked like you were asking for help”

and then he eventually enrolled at UA, and the little world he’d been living in finally came crashing down around him as he was sucker punched with the reality that this whole time he was really just a big fish in a small pond, and his superiority complex began to violently twist into an extreme inferiority complex. the rug had been pulled out from his feet and he was now surrounded by people who were just as capable as him, if not more so, and who, rather than worshipping him as the coolest kid with the coolest quirk, actually thought he was a kind of a douche.

not to mention deku, who he believed to be quirkless and the one person he hated the most, suddenly had a powerful quirk as well, and was now able to compete with and even surpass him in ways he never imagined. had deku been playing him for a fool this whole time??

all this clashed very harshly with everything he had come to believe in so strongly, and, understandably, caused him a lot of extreme confusion, anxiety, resentment, and most notably… Anger. his whole life has turned upside down and he has no idea how to handle it. so, being the person he is, the person his life up until this point had nurtured him into becoming, his natural instinct is now to blindly act out very… (excuse the pun)… Explosively.

he figuratively (and sometimes literally) blasts away anything and everything that doesnt agree with his perceived image of how things should be. he’s spent his whole life believing he was the best so FUCK IT, now he’s GOING TO BE THE GOD DAMN BEST!! his classmates dont like him/make fun of him/think he’s a dickhead?? WHATEVER, SHUT UP YOU DAMN NERDS!! I DONT WANT ANYTHING TO DO WITH YOU ANYWAY!! deku, the useless, annoying kid from his childhood is now standing in the way of his goal of being number one?? DEKU YOU DAMN NERD, I WILL DESTROY YOU!!

but… what has this aggressive and anti-social attitude actually achieved for him so far?? honestly, very little… in fact, this behaviour has been doing him a lot more harm than good in the long run, not just professionally, but for his own safety, and his mental health too. (i’d absolutely go into a lot more detail here but you mentioned you’re not up to date so i don’t want to spoil too much)

some people might say this all just sounds like an spoiled brat throwing a temper tantrum, and i guess on some level, that’s probably true. but in my opinion, the bottom line is it’s not his fault. taking something all might says about him in chapter 121 and expanding on it slightly, i believe bakugou ultimately ended up the way he did through the failure of his upbringing. the failure of the adults in his life. if he hadnt been told so continuously from a young age that he was amazing, and then left unchecked for so long, if maybe people were more firm with him about his behaviour from a young age, perhaps he may not have grown into such an angry, messed up person.

but in spite of all of this, as i mentioned earlier, this boy ain’t dumb. he’s smart as hell. it’s taking him a long time to realise it, blinded as he is by all his confusing emotions, and it’s taking him a long time to work through his issues and do anything about it, but he is changing. slowly. slowly, but believably.

bakugou, in my personal opinion, is one of the most interestingly written characters in the series, and it’s been very fascinating and rewarding to watch his gradual development over the course of the story so far. he certainly hasnt done a 180 or anything, he’s still a very loud and very angry boy, but he’s slowly beginning to change in a number of subtle, nuanced ways. bakugou now is remarkably different than bakugou as you see him in chapter 1.

one last thing to consider, is how relatively early we are in the story compared to the grand scheme of things. i believe i heard somewhere that horikoshi once said a while back that the story was roughly 20% done, which lead people to project the manga would run for approximately 500+ chapters, at least, and we’re only at 146 now at the time of this writing.

bakugou is the 2nd most important character in the story after deku, the protagonist. so much of their development is built around each other, and it wouldnt make sense, narratively or realistically, for a character like bakugou, the way he is and his overall importance to both the story and dekus own development, to change too much in too short amount of time. a character arc like bakugou’s is one that will be played out slowly, but surely, and most importantly, satisfyingly. he will change. little by little. he is changing. he has changed already, and he will continue to change.

sorry this got really long, i just really like bakugou. i understand where some people are coming from when they say they don’t like him. that’s completely fair, liking a character is completely subjective, especially a character as prickly as bakugou is. but i just hope those people know he’s more than what he seems.

“It Is What It Is”: a practical, mournful phrase which indicates acceptance of your inability to control a negative situation.

Not quite the future unknown of “qué será será”, more the present-tense acknowledgement that “Yes, this particular situation bites the big one, but there’s nothing I can do to change it”, no one uses the phrase “it is what it is” to describe something joyful, it’s a helpless shrug at unchangeable circumstances.

Knowing everything that’s gone on in his life, it should be no surprise that Louis would choose this as his favourite tattoo in 2017.

But what should be a giant questionmark to anyone who buys into the official narrative about his love life, is why he chose it in the first place. Especially given that he got it tattooed across his chest in 2013, when the band was at an all-time height of fame and he was supposedly in a longtime relationship with his loved-up girlfriend.

Even outright ignoring the fact that the design appeared on the same Liam Sparkes flash sheet as Harry’s butterfly stomach tattoo, I wonder what negative situation that was completely out of Louis’ control he might have been referencing back in 2013?

Alex & Maggie having a party, everyone is there including Lena. At some point Lena walks over to Maggie, asking her hypothetically how to surprise romantically to a girl (Kara). (I hope you understand what I mean and write a beautiful story then smut kind of thing). Thanks!

It’s been a wild ride, and they’ve both almost died more than once.

Hell, everyone in the room had almost died more than once.

So they’re celebrating.

Celebrating being alive and celebrating the new rings on Alex and Maggie’s fingers.

Well, more to the point, celebrating the fact that these two were forged in their own hellfires, but somehow fought to keep themselves soft enough to be open for each other; to admit they wanted each other; to admit they loved each other.

They invite Lena because none of them would be alive if it weren’t for her, and they invite Lena because they both know what it means to live your life in fear of becoming – or not becoming, or some strange combination of the two – what your parents demand from you.

They invite her because they know what she means to Kara, because their relationship is new but it’s powerful and because it’s fresh but it’s so damn important.

She’s good in a crowd when she’s at work, but this? This isn’t a work party, and this isn’t public.

So she hugs the wall most of the time that she’s not staunchly by Kara’s side.

But when Kara runs – or, flies – downstairs to get the pizza from Jessy because the elevator isn’t working and she didn’t want him to have to make the hike upstairs, Lena takes a deep breath, takes a shot, and sidles up to Maggie.

“Congratulations, Detective,” she smiles, her heart slamming, and Maggie grins easily at her.

dream scenario: real madrid spends money on their academy, lowers ticket prices to a normal amount instead of overpricing them and doesn’t have an overcrowded bench which leaves space for rotation and all the players having a chance to play

reality: real madrid spends 180 million on a teenager who has potential but only god knows if he’s actually going to develop that potential or be ruined under the extreme pressure that is real madrid

Okay I really, really love how Edgeworth says NGHOOOOH when he’s surprised or something and Phoenix is just like the normal dude where he’s just like “ACK!” or “OOOUCH!!!” or some shit but imagine like, in certain situations, they both do that yelp. the sudden yelp. the one puppies do when you accidentally step on their tail. you know the one

like, usually, they have this super overdramatic moment in which they do those elongated yells, but this time it’s like a very subtle and small thing that catches them completely by surprise, they just do that puppy yelp and just like

people find it fucking hilarious

it’s like, ‘oh a cat just came out of absolutely nowhere and that surprised me so I guess I need to make a noise like a puppy caught off guard’

(Larry does it too but like no one cares bc he’s always been sort of weird like that and it’s not that much of a surprise. Plus he does it a lot more often.)

What I’m saying is that the childhood trio grew up with the same fucking tiny yelp and that they 100% got it from each other (more particularly they got it from Larry and neither of them wants to admit it but you know for a fact that Larry is all over that.)

A Theory from the Discord Chat

So we all know that Season 2 is taking place in three main locations, as the cast have mentioned many times: Bergsberg (a fictional town in Montana), the fantasy land of Wendamor, and Black Wing.

Now, I had been assuming that Team Jacket would flee from Black Wing after the break-out and while on the run, they’d end up in Bergsberg. What struck me as surprising, however, was the interview in which it was mentioned that Farah and Todd reach Bergsberg while looking for Dirk. Perhaps Bergsberg is the town where the government have hidden Black Wing?

There’s also the theory, based on Max’s show bible and the hinting of the importance of beds, that Wendamor is located under Dirk’s bed at Black Wing.

If both of those theories are true, it could mean that the three seemingly separate locations in which Season 2 takes place are all actually the same location.

Bergsberg = Black Wing = Wendamor.

Much to Roma’s surprise, Danny kept his promise and came to see his old friend daily. They would usually just talk for hours about what’s happened the past five years, but occasionally he convinced the sick girl to play some chess with him. He still hadn’t beat her in that game yet.

But he always had to help her out of the wheelchair, which Roma was less than enthused about.

Danny: Ah, c’mon, Ro. It’s not like you’re limp and I have to carry you to the table.

Roma, huffing: I know, it’s just…I fall down once and everyone thinks I can’t stand up by myself. I’m not as weak as they say.

Danny: Yeah, what do the doctors know? It’s not like they’ve got medical degrees or anything.

Her glare would reappear, but Danny preferred that over nothing at all.

anonymous asked:

why do you hate the spoilers and leaks so much? at least they weren't a hoax.

I hate spoilers and leaks for sooo many reasons tbh. SO! MANY! I mean, just to name a few:

  • For some reason I am way less inclined to watch a show if I get spoiled for it. I got spoiled for the last few episodes of The 100 and I STILL haven’t watched.
  • They are impossible to stay away from. I never sought out the leaks or read them voluntarily, but there are always people who DON’T TAG. Even with the show currently going on, there are people who don’t tag their episode spoilers, and it’s a bummer.
  • I know its a ~crazy concept~ but I actually like to be surprised when I watch my favorite shows.
  • Spoilers make speculating and discussing what might happen basically impossible, which I think is half the fun of hiatuses. You can barely even talk about what might happen because inevitably someone will always chime in with “No because thE LEAKS!!” They become some kind of ~decisive argument~ and it’s irritating af.
  • It’s really kind of a bummer for actors and show runners who work really hard. It has a distinct feeling of spitting right in their faces.
  • For some reason there are always people who feel like spoilers give them an excuse defense or tactic approval to act like assholes. It’s really unpleasant to be around and I am not about that life.
  • 9/10 times they cause nothing but trouble and discourse in fandom. Case in point: the last gd year in the GoT fandom.

(These only apply to me personally, obvs. I can’t speak for anyone else. But GOD I really just hate leaks and spoilers.)

💙(introvert or extrovert)- I used to be super extroverted and still am sometimes but I’ve definitely settled more into an introvert as I got older

💚(Optimist or pessimist)- (I had this saying that was “optimists are disappointed while pessimists are pleasantly surprised” which is a terrible way to live.) I wouldn’t say I’m specifically pessimistic but I’m not exactly optimistic

🍪(favorite dessert/snack)- I love brownies, ummm sour cream and onion chips, I have a huge sweet tooth for anything honestly

I got a new phone tonight! I finally killed my first smartphone after 2 years of dropping the poor thing almost daily. It hasn’t been charging properly lately & was really bad today, so I took it in. Guy said the battery was shot & it wasn’t a replaceable one. I wasn’t too surprised by the verdict, I know how hard I am on technology. XD

Just finished getting it all settled in with my usual games, apps, and music. And took a crabby pic for the first picture! :) The camera is better than my old one, which is exciting. ♥

Especially because Justin Beiber is not present in the fanwar for whatever reasons and there are few fandoms that could be the armys. (one of them being exo-ls which are losing anyways. Which sucks because I'm positive VIPs can beat TVXQ but probably can't beat the armys and that'll be one more thing that armys will hold over bigbang)

everyone knows armys are more active and have more new young fans who take part of these votes so i’m not surprised at all :) vips are old ladies we got no time for no billboard poll

I Heard That

Imagine: You are always quiet in math, a class you happen to share with Peter Parker. Once you finally muster the courage to speak up, Peter finds a type of excuse so he can spend more time with you.

Word Count: 1100??? maybe

A/N: This is shitty and rushed but I have an assignment due on Monday that I haven’t really started sooO soz

Your fingers cramped as you attempted to write the answer before the timer at the front of the class went off. Several groans could be heard around the room as the renown alarm bounced off the walls of the quiet room. You rubbed your tired eyes beneath your glasses in hope that it would somehow get rid of the slight sleepiness that began to claw at them. Nevertheless, you began gliding your pen over your answers with concentration in attempt to find any mistakes.

“Alright then,” Coach Johnson, your Maths teacher spoke enthusiastically, bouncing on the balls of his feet. “Who’s up first?”

The room remained silent as heads lowered to look down towards their work. Coach’s voice was louder this time, sounding slightly more impatient, “Any volunteers? No? Alright then. You’re up, Parker.”

Fairy Tail 545 Analysis

I disagree with most of the posts I’ve been seeing about the nalu interaction at the end of this final chapter. That is, I don’t think it was Lucy that “wasn’t ready” like a lot of people have been saying. I know the “blushing virgin” trope (quote a la @not-just-any-fangirl) is a popular one, and I don’t want to get into that because it’s not my cup of tea,but my point is that I don’t think Lucy wasn’t ready.

I think it was Natsu that was scared.

In my opinion, this doesn’t seem like a “wait, I’m not ready for this” it seems more like a “wait, is this really happening?” Natsu and Lucy have been through… a lot, as we all know, and at this point I don’t really see Lucy being afraid of anything that has to do with Natsu (except maybe him leaving again, which we never got a discussion about, thanks Mashima). The close up on Lucy’s face is clearly more comedic and surprised, rather than nervous

Now, we know that Natsu isn’t good with confrontation, at least, not when it comes to Lucy. Natsu is a lot of things, but he’s kind of a coward when it comes to talking about his emotions or having any kind of a conversation that could reveal what he’s actually feeling. Mashima has been very clear about that in the past.

In chapter 416 Natsu left without saying goodbye to Lucy (this is also a wonderful parallel to the Phantom Lord arc, but that’s not what this is about). Natsu, as we’ve seen, doesn’t like seeing Lucy upset, especially not because of him.

419. Lucy mentions the fact that he left for a year and Natsu clams up.

424. Again, Natsu kind of… lowkey freaks out/shuts down about being confronted.

Natsu has never dealt with change well. At least, it doesn’t seem that way. He can’t handle any type of confrontation that could potentially dig up emotions he’s buried. He doesn’t like it and often opts to joke his way out of situations because he gets scared. It’s his natural fight or flight reflex coming into play. Natsu is almost always “fight”, but when it comes to Lucy and whether or not he’s “in love” with her, he seems to go for flight.

In the manga, Natsu is only 19/20. He hasn’t matured enough to deal with what he’s feeling, but he knows he wants to stay by Lucy’s side forever, even if he does need some extra time to figure it out.

TL/DR: Lucy isn’t the one that got nervous about Natsu trying to kiss her, Natsu is just a big coward when it comes to emotions and needs a little extra time to figure it out.

He told me this is his most aggressive SDCC schedule ever, so the fact that he slotted in some time just for me really meant the world. Marc Guggenheim is the actual best.
