where'd you go fort minor

eene-fangirl  asked:

What is your opinion about Edd’s relationship with his parents? Will it ever get better?

It’s kind of sad and hard to judge. On one hand, his parents work to support him and clearly seem to care to some degree. On the other hand, they don’t ever seem to be there for him emotionally. My own headcanon is that it doesn’t get better until he speaks up for himself and how he has been feeling, but before then, Double D sort of turns into a rebel when he gets to be a teenager. Not extremely, but his blinders sort of get take down and he begins to feel abandoned, more like “well why not? it’s not as if my parents will even know or care anyway since they are never there.” This being sort of catalyzed by Eddy who points it out to him. Double D is the type to let things get to a breaking point before he decides he has finally had enough.

For example, maybe Eddy wants Double D to join him and Ed in some activity that Edd objects to because of his morals, and wondering what would mother and father think. They argue and Eddy kind of bluntly mentions how he doesn’t get why Edd worries about what his parents will think so much cuz they are never there anyway. Tic. This causes Double to get upset, all teary eye-d, enraged that Eddy would say that. He goes to be alone but then later starts to think that maybe what Eddy said was right and maybe it’s something he himself has been feeling all along. Eddy feels bad, but Double D comes around and decides to do whatever the activity was because fuck em.

I’d assume that after a while, his parents would start to notice because he would stop doing some of his chores and listening to the sticky notes little by little. Until they finally decide to have a real talk with him about his disobedience. Double D would basically start acting up to get their full attention. Classic psychology.
