She ran through the town, cool air nipping at her neck and arms. Her legs were strong, carrying her swiftly to the hole in the fence. She knew she should stop going, knew her every move was being watched now and forever. She didn’t need to hunt anymore, she had money, a house, food; but she needed it. Her soul needed it. She needed to be free, even for a few hours. The woods gave her that.

The forest had changed while she was away. It was a darker green now, with hues of orange and red threatening to overtake it all. Autumn was fully here, and soon, the snow would fall, blanketing the world in pure white.

Leaves crunched beneath her feet, making it harder to sneak up on her prey, but she wasn’t expecting to take a life today. She just wanted the fresh air, the open sky; wanted to watch the sunrise through the trees.

Rey’s time is split between the camp and a little outcropping of rock overlooking a particularly scenic part of the swamp, where the trees part just enough to provide a view of the sky (if it isn’t foggy or cloudy or otherwise dreary) and a pond so still that its surface is like glass. Rey meditates there, in a unique place where the sky, land, and water seem to be of one entity.

I started reading this weeks ago and while I obviously adore the whole fic, I just couldn’t get this scene from the first chapter out of my head (I didn’t think it was possible but someone made Dagobah sound gross yet beautiful), so weeks later I’ve finally gotten around to painting it.

also forgive me I never reviewed so hi, have this & take this as an apology

My daughter plays on the floor
with plastic letters,
red, blue & hard yellow,
learning how to spell,
spelling,
how to make spells.

I wonder how many women
denied themselves daughters,
closed themselves in rooms,
drew the curtains
so they could mainline words.

A child is not a poem,
a poem is not a child.
there is no either/or.
However.

I return to the story
of the woman caught in the war
& in labour, her thighs tied
together by the enemy
so she could not give birth.

Ancestress: the burning witch,
her mouth covered by leather
to strangle words.

A word after a word
after a word is power.

At the point where language falls away
from the hot bones, at the point
where the rock breaks open and darkness
flows out of it like blood, at
the melting point of granite
when the bones know
they are hollow & the word
splits & doubles & speaks
the truth & the body
itself becomes a mouth.

This is a metaphor.

How do you learn to spell?
Blood, sky & the sun,
your own name first,
your first naming, your first name,
your first word.

When Nico first gets to camp he attaches to Will and won't leave him alone, and Will's too cool for Nico because he's six months older and almost eleven.

Shiz well this is completely not what you asked for! But I tried and I’m very sorry about my shitty writing!

The sun shone brightly above camp the morning Nico shuffled shyly through the door of The Hermes Cabin, shrinking into his oversized jacket as he saw the masses of kids of all ages sparring, shooting, training, laughing and talking. He felt his skin heat up. Great, now he we was going to look scared and sunburnt. He followed the director who had been so kindly showing him around, nervously thumbing the worn Mythomagic card in his pocket. The sun beat down on his back, and he stared at the ground, kicking a pebble as he walked along the beach. Suddenly, a figure came barreling towards him, and in a split second second, he was lying on the sand, looking up at the perfectly blue sky.

it’s the finale and kuvira has unleashed chaos on the world by fucking with the spirits. she blindsided korra and hooked her up to one of the spirit-energy harnessing machines, which allowed vaatu to break out of korra, but since he and raava are unified it means that she was removed right along with him, and now he’s more powerful than ever because he has raava trapped inside him giving him double the strength… but wait there’s more…. the machines were also connected to the spirit vines, which were connected to the tree of time whose roots bind the worlds together and now suddenly vaatu is directly linked up with the roots of the world and the whole world is becoming corrupted and literally coming apart at the seams as the material and spirit worlds intersect dangerously, all connected to vaatu who becomes more and more corrupted and destructive as the dark energy of the massive spirit glitch kuvira’s machines caused gives him like 10x more power… korra battles vaatu singlehandedly all across the globe in a giant showdown.. trying to save raava.. and the world… and to end it all she has to sacrifice her life to simultaneously reunite with raava and purify vaatu from the inside which would result in her dying because the energy in him is so poisoned… but the next avatar would be born and vaatu would be trapped within raava again and the world would be purified since he’s the source of it all because of the connection kuvira’s machines caused… except…. it doesn’t work… vaatu grew too strong for anyone to survive inside him and korra dies before she can do anything.. and now her body is lying in some remote location and there’s no one to save the world and all hope is lost as darkness falls and chaos starts its reign… cut to mako asami and bolin finding korra’s body frantically checking for signs of life but there are none.. she’s dead and they’re all sobbing around her body.. they couldn’t help her and now korra their best friend who had such a hard life but was always willing to give so much, and still fight to the last second, taking on such a colossal task… is gone.. and a bunch of dark spirits converge on the scene… but as they come closer suddenly they’re purified.. the krew’s love for korra is creating positive energy around them because the spirit world and material world are overlapped and your feelings become your surroundings… the spirits are confused but realize what’s going on, and as they surround the scene they start to sense raava’s energy… wait no…… it's korra’s energy. but it’s weak and residual. and the spirits realize what must be done.. they tell the krew that while that tiny amount of korra that is left is holding on to this earth, someone can trade their life for her’s… because the bonds they’ve all made are so strong that their spirits are forever intertwined and their energy can be transferred at a time like this. but it will be irreversible because korra is so close to death. they all immediately volunteer but in true fashion mako tells the other two that he has to be the one to do it. they try to stop him but he says that korra’s going to need them after all this and mako has already raised bolin to the full extent he could.. he knows it’s the right thing to do.. the spirits say they need to hurry because she’s almost gone so asami and bolin concede and say their tearful goodbyes as he goes to the spirits with her body, and all the spirits begin transforming into pure cosmic energy which envelops them as they rise into the sky and mako disappears yue-style as his lifeforce goes into korra and SUDDENLY SHE WAKES UP. she’s so relieved to see asami and bolin and asks where mako is but they say he’s fine just somewhere else.. korra’s weak so bolin and asami help her up, and korra guides them in the direction her senses are telling her to go.. she starts getting her strength back and can stand on her own now and tells them she knows what she needs to do now.. vaatu is growing more and more powerful and she doesn’t know if she’ll be able to survive but she has to get to him and save the world. they say their goodbyes and korra tells them to tell mako she’s sorry she couldn’t say bye to him too and to tell him in case she doesn’t make it. they sadly say they will as they reach the coastline and wish her luck, hugging one last time… korra jumps to the water and starts waterbending herself across the ocean at higher and higher speeds.. vaatu appears on the horizon like a mountain, having grown to a monstrous size eclipsing the sun.. korra earthbends a huge pillar of rock from the ocean floor as she nears vaatu, launching her into the sky, where she propels herself into the stratosphere with firebending, breaking the sound barrier.. but getting so close to vaatu is making her weak and her firebending sputters out and she continues with airbending, almost in space now and as she reaches her target at terminal velocity she goes through him like a bullet, and then in slow motion we see korra reignite raava inside vaatu and pull her out the other side, all in a split second. raava is freed and korra condenses the clouds around them into a colossal stream of spiritbending that goes through the hole she made, and vaatu begins to unravel as she punctures him more and more.. korra nearly completes the enormous purification process when vaatu’s last remaining tendril suddenly hits korra and she falls from the sky, the air she was airbending around herself while in space suddenly dissipated. and as she’s falling, unconscious, vaatu re-takes his normal sized form from the remaining fragment and he and raava battle in the sky as they fall alongside korra… all hope looks lost as korra plummets towards sure doom, when suddenly asami swoops in with a plane and catches her.. korra reawakens now being back in the atmosphere and asami goes level with raava and vaatu while korra climbs up onto the wings and then jumps towards the battling spirits.. she makes contact with raava and they merge in mid air, and as soon as the process is complete korra fires one perfect spirit-charged multi-bending blast at vaatu and the sheer precision and strength of it evaporates him instantly… korra firebends herself back to the plane and passes out, nearly frozen and deprived of oxygen while asami flies them off to safety as fast as possible…
