List of anime series/movies with unique art styles.

For my friends on tumblr, in case you guys want something to watch, here’s a quick list of anime series/movies with unusual/unique art styles that you may or may not know.

With an artstyle reminiscent of the original Astro Boy, Kaiba has a very simplistic (yet stylized) and fluid style of animation and art. The story revolves around the titular character, who wakes up with a hole in his chest with no idea of who he is. I enjoyed this a lot for the art, music and characters, who all have realistic motivations and ideals, as well as the themes handled in it; such as what defines “being human” when bodies and memories are as disposable as plastic.
Genre: Sci-Fi, Psychological Drama

In terms of sheer action and excitement I got from watching a movie, I’ve got to say that Redline is one of the best ever in those departments. With a highly stylized comic-book-esque art style with a high influence from Western comics like Dick Tracy (with the emphasis on black shadows on solid colours and thick black outlines), this show is extremely fluidly animated, the movie is said to consist of 120 000 hand-drawn frames, taking seven years to complete. The movie follows the story of racer JP (aka “Sweet” JP, because of his refusal to use weaponry while racing) trying to win (and survive) the titular Redline, a race consisting of multiple racers from multiple different galaxies and planets.
Genre: Racing, Sci-Fi, Action

Every frame of this anime could be screencapped and slapped onto someone’s dashboard for their aesthetic. That is how distinct the art style and character design of this show is. The show uses a form of “plaid animation”, where something will be animated over a still color or object as it moves, creating most of the time a jarring effect that is usually the sign of a lazy animator, however in Mononoke, the show utilizes the art to create a sense of a surreal, dream-like environment, intentionally focusing on the jarring effect. The art and design of the environment is also extremely ornate and beautiful.
The show focuses on the story of the unknown Medicine Seller and his travels through Japan (in an unknown time period), killing spirits and creatures known as Mononoke. However, he cannot do so until he learns their Form, Truth and Reasoning/Regret, which leads to some very interesting lessons at the end of each story.
Genre: Mystery, Horror

Dead Leaves

Another comic-influenced movie, and just barely under an hour too; Dead Leaves is an extremely fun, hyper-action-packed movie with amazing character design (almost EVERY good character in this movie has a unique design, barring the civilains and generic bad guy cannon fodder), driven by slapstick, humor (usually of the sexual kind) and more pop culture references than you can digest within the time span they’re thrown at you. The story focuses on criminals Retro and Pandy; Retro having a TV instead of a head, and Pandy having a panda-like marking on her eye, who, shortly after waking up on the moon and causing havoc on a nearby planet, are imprisoned in a super-jail.
Genre: Action, Comedy, Sci-Fi

Kuuchuu Buranko / Welcome to Irabu’s Office

Combining rotoscoped 3D, 2D animation and live action elements, Kuuchuu Buranko is an extremely surreal look into the world of psychiatry. The art and designs were created by the lead artist of Mononoke, Kenji Nakamura. But whereas Mononoke had some subtlety to its art, this show is bright, colourful and neon as all hell. The show focuses on Dr. Ichiro Irabu and how he helps his patients with their problems, who are all connected in some way or the other.
Genre: Comedy, Psychological Drama

The Tatami Galaxy

With a bright visual style that also manages to be subtle at the same time, The Tatami Galaxy also utilizes not just its art as a device for story telling, but the form of the show itself to convey its messages. I can’t spoil too much about the show, but I can give you this: if you enjoy the first episode, please watch it to completion, as this show basically requires the viewer to watch the show in its entirety. The story focuses on an unnamed protagonist, commonly referred to as Watashi by the show’s fans, who tries to attain the “rose-tinted” college life style he has desired for his whole life, as well as all the challenges he faces on the way. With fast-paced dialogue, a lot of humor, interesting character and background designs, as well as the various forms of “characterization”, and also the themes tackled by this show, I’d say it’s one of my favorite shows of all time.
Genre: Slice of Life, Comedy, Drama, Psychological, Sci-Fi

Mind Game

Mind Game. Directed by Masaaki Yuasa (also the director behind The Tatami Galaxy, Kaiba and Ping-Pong). I don’t think words can do this movie justice, but I’ll try. Imagine a combination of 3D-morphing-into-2D, sketches, animated photo images of (presumably) the voice actor’s for talking, extremely smooth and fluid movement, plus an insane amount of exaggeration, all coupled with a huge range of bright and dark colours and you’ve got Mind Game’s animation style down somewhat. Go look up more GIFs, they’ll help you understand the range of styles this surreal (and extremely fun) movie goes through. The plot follows Nishi, a down-on-his-luck, 20-years-old manga writer, running into his childhood crush Myon. He discovers she’s getting married soon while they’re talking inside her father’s restaurant. After that (plus another key event), the craziness in the movie begins; Nishi having a new-found desire to live life.
Genre: Comedy, Surrealism,

Tekkonkinkreet, although similar in appearance to some Masaaki Yuasa works, was not made by the man himself (although, it was made by the company, Studio 4°Cthat helped produce Mind Game). This movie has incredibly detailed backgrounds, similar to a Studio Ghibli film, with amazing usage of lighting, camera shots and motion blur as well as a wide variety of colours and shades. The story follows Black and White, two street orphans who call themselves “The Cats”, trying to keep control of their town from dangerous enemies. Although vastly different in personalities, they support each other emotionally, mentally and physically very well.
Genre: Action, Drama, Adventure

The Diary of Tortov Riddle

The Diary of Tortov Roddle, although very short (6 episodes all leading up to 14 minutes! Watch it here! It has three special episodes that are part of the DVD though), is an interesting adventure of a surreal world that seems almost like a moving/animated picture rather than a movie or series. It follows the journey of Tortov Roddle and his pig-steed throughout this world, with just his calm thoughts and experiences. There’s no dialogue in this series but it doesn’t really require any dialogue at all, the only dialogue being Tortov’s journal entries at the beginning and end of each episode. The music, lack of dialogue and artall contribute to a very interesting, mysterious atmosphere.
Genre: Fantasy, Surrealism, Adventure

The Tale of Princess Kaguya

Straight outta Compton Studio Ghibli, The Tale of Princess Kaguya is an adaption of one of the staples of traditional Japanese folklore, The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter. This film adapts the ancient story of the young princess who grew out of a bamboo shoot and breathes fresh new life into it while still staying 100% true to the source material. The art can only be described as absolutely gorgeous, using a pale colour palette in a constantly shifting style that recalls the ancient Japanese watercolour paintings that the original story was recorded on.

Genre:  Fantasy, Drama

Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei

Oh man this show.
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei follows the story of Nozomu Itoshiki, an overdramatic teacher so pessismistic about everything that he would try committing suicide over pretty much the smallest inconvenience (his name, when its Japanese characters are read horizontally, also translates into “Despair”) and his bizarre homeroom students’ antics. The series parodies almost everything there is to satrize in Japanese culture (the show even parodies itself from time to time with casual 4th wall-breaking from every show), as well as the general media and politics of the world, as well as having an insane amount of references to various things regardless of fame; from Gundam, Evangelion and Gurren Lagann, to Franz Kafka, Edward Gorey and South Park. The art’s very minimal (which itself gets parodied later on in the series), but it, uh, changes a lot, to put it simply.

Genre: Comedy, Parody

(gotta lot of requests to list this one)

Sports anime tends to always get a bad rep amongst anime fans for various reasons, whether it be that the viewer gets tired of seeing another Dempsey Roll, or the amount of reused frames in the series, they’re all understandable.
And so comes Ping-Pong to shatter those preconceptions of what a sports anime can be. Focusing rather on the characters, their emotions and development rather than the titular game that the anime’s based on (unlike most sports anime), this coming-of-age show following two boys as they (one actually) strive to become the best table tennis players in the world, is directed by none other than Masaaki Yuasa, who has directed a lot of the shows and movies on this list actually, with his trademark style of not having a trademark artstyle (other than wobbly simple lines and psychedelic colours).

Genre: Psychological, Drama, Coming-Of-Age, Sports

Gankutsuou: The Count of Monte Cristo

(im still in the process of watching Gankutusou and Ping-Pong (thanks school) hence why they weren’t in the original post)

Gankutsuou is what most people would call “art porn”, as it uses various still textures, colours and patterns within the character’s lineart, similar to Mononoke and Kuuchuu Buranko though to a much greater extent, while using 3D and 2D animation on the characters and backgrounds. The story is broadly based on the titular story of The Count of Monte Cristo, but with many differences, such as being set in the year 5053, plotlines and character endings being altered/removed, the pacing being changed from the original story, as well as the incorporation of many sci-fi themes. The general aesthetic of the show is that of 19th century France in a highly futuristic setting.

Genre: Drama, Sci-Fi, Thriller, Supernatural

Based off a popular gambling manga by Nobuyuki Fukumoto, Kaiji follows the story of the titular character, Kaiji Itou, an unemployed slacker who spends his days gambling (and always losing), stealing, drinking and being obsessed with money. He suddenly finds himself 3 million in debt, and is offered the chance to erase all of his debt, and maybe even earn some cash, in one night.

Via gambling.

With thick bold lines, exaggerated expressions and hugely caricaturized faces that woul make more sense in a comedy that all serve as a plus to the show, Kaiji is an intense psychological thriller that always leaves you on the edge of your seat, with some of the most insane and dramatic gambles in any piece of fiction.

Genre: Psychological, Thriller, Gambling

Panty and Stocking With Garterbelt

Two angels, kicked out of Heaven, have been tasked with cleaning up the filthy sin-riddled Daten City, and can only return once they’ve gotten enough Heaven coins!

Not like that matters to Panty and Stocking anyways, whose only cares in the world are what tastes good, much to the chagrin of local priest Garterbelt.

With a ton of American pop culture references, humor that would make South Park seem like a kid’s show, action that is so bizarre it can’t even be explained, and an animation style that’s more akin to a cartoon on a huge drug trip than anything else, Panty and Stocking with Garterbelt shows that sometimes too much of a good thing is still a good thing.

Genre: Comedy, Action, Parody, Not something to play around Grandma

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure

There really is no other gif that explains and summarizes Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure better than this one.

Based off the hugely popular manga by Araki Hirohiko, the show follows the story of the Joestar bloodline. Jojo is unique in that it doesn’t follow one group of characters or main character throughout the entire franchise, but rather a different cast in a different location throughout the world, ranging from 1930s New York, to 1980s Japan, to Egypt and much more.

If I’m being rather vague about describing this rather popular show, I apologize, but there really is no way to properly explain this bizarre series.

With proportions that look like it was ripped straight out of a bodybuilder’s magazine, poses that could probably break your spine if even just attempted, and fights that end up being some of the most hype as well as some of the most ridiculous you’ll have ever seen, as well as a bright, dramatic colour pallete, this is a show that truly lives up to its “Bizarre” title.

(also protip: start with the 2012 adaption first rather than the 90s OVA, and read the manga.)

Genre: Action, Comedy, Supernatural, Mystery

Why the Rolling Stone's Fansplaining of Harry Styles Misses the Point
Saskia Postema, Contributor

It is safe to say that almost the entire world has recently been exposed to the solo debut of Harry Styles, member of the band One Direction. While he was not the first one to start up a solo project – Zayn Malik left the band in 2015 to pursue a solo career, whereas both Niall Horan and Louis Tomlinson released solo material in 2016 – he was, perhaps after Zayn’s dramatic departure, the most hyped and anticipated artist out of the original bandmembers.

It’s been two weeks since Harry released his incredibly successful #1 debut single, Sign of the Times, which leads his self-titled LP that will hit stores on the 12th of May. Subsequently, critics have been quick to write their reviews, labeling the rock anthem as an epic song that establishes Harry as a credible artist. Part of the promotional roll-out of Harry’s debut seems to be centered around the cultivation of that notion: Harry Styles is to be seen as an authentic, honest, yet mysterious, credible musician. Given the fact that Rolling Stone profiles itself as the market-leading music magazine when it comes to crediting such artistry, it was to be expected that a profile and cover issue of Harry Styles would follow suit.

In a companion piece, Rolling Stone published a so-called ‘fansplaining’ column on their website – delving into the fanbase that has supported Harry Styles throughout the years, probably aimed at gauging their reaction to his debut. An interesting take, given the fact that the journalistic lens of Rolling Stone seems to focus mostly around discrediting the opinion of young women, particularly those who have been avid fans of the music that One Direction has put out in previous years, and who have supported Harry and his peers throughout that time. Aside from the fact that such an understanding of music is abhorrently misogynist, as it values the middle-aged white male’s opinion as somehow more legitimate than those of women (even when those women were able to recognize the artist’s talent years prior to those men who were blinded by their fragile masculinity), the article also failed to do what it intended: Explain what makes these fans so loyal to their idol.

There seems to be a deep-rooted misunderstanding of the relationship between fans and the artist they support, starting with the idea that all fans are the same. They are not. As such, many internal disagreement can exist within a fandom, while all maintaining the same admiration for the artist. It should be clear that fans are perhaps, aside from the artist themselves, the most critical of the output provided. People might find that contradictory, but I have found this to be true amongst many different groups of fans. It is similar to having a best friend that loves you unconditionally, but that will set you straight and call you out on your mistakes when you stumble. Fans are there to help the artist along, but that doesn’t mean they will not hesitate to analyze, criticize and educate their idol as well as their peers if they feel this is necessary. Such criticism stems from the expectations they have formed about said output products. Most fans will distinguish between music on the one hand, and image on the other hand. This is separate from the expectations and perception fans have from their idol’s personality. However, they will expect both music and image to reflect the personality of the artist – this is where the honesty comes into play.

For those who have been following One Direction’s career and musical development, the style of music chosen by Harry did not come as a surprise. In fact, while many reviewers seem to shy away from making the comparison, it seems that Harry’s music seems to progress most naturally out of the latest albums of One Direction. Songs like Walking in the Wind, If I Could Fly, or the slightly older Ready to Run and Where do Broken Hearts Go all reflect similar soft-rock vibes. It also fits the fans’ perception of what Harry’s personal taste in music is like, as he’s always hinted at big artists from the 70s and 80s as his big musical influences. His continuous rejection of explaining his lyricism is also consistent with the Harry fans have come to know and love over the years – he’s expressed many a times how much he values music as art. And art is interpreted by the person observing the artpiece, he likes that a song might give different people different perspectives, as long as it resonates, it’s enough.

This links back to image. In my view, many fans see Harry as fiercely protective of his private life. And with good reason, given how he had to grow up in the limelight – starting off on the X Factor, a reality show that is as much a storytelling drama series as it is a singing competition. However, this is also where there is a deep dissatisfaction amongst fans. Part of celebrity culture is providing the public with certain glimpses into your private life, and fans are quite ambivalent in their appreciation of this. On the one hand, fans want to see their idols be happy and have the opportunity to talk to them, or get to know them. On the other hand, fans recognize the flagrant violation of privacy in terms of stalkers, paparazzi and ‘inside sources’ speaking to the press.

In Harry’s case, this is where the dichotomy is most apparent. While he himself never speaks out about his private life or relationships, not even his friendships with other celebs such as Ed Sheeran, Alexa Chung or Nick Grimshaw; his private life has quite possibly been most speculated about and most prominent in tabloids out of all the One Direction members. Rolling Stone does an abysmal job at respecting the same mysteriousness they hail Harry for trying to uphold by filling in the blanks and pushing him to talk about relationships he’s chosen not to address in the past. Their leading title for their profile does not focus on the music, or him as a new solo artist, but rather on him ‘opening up about famous flings’. It is a common misconception that fans want to hear him say that he’s single, or want to know the ins and outs of who he beds. Rather, fans want to hear what makes Harry happy. They don’t want to marry him, they want to know if he’s hydrated and well loved by his family and friends – if he’s taken enough holidays and if there’s anything in particular he still wants to achieve or cross of his bucket list; that is if he has one. They want to hear him honour the fundamental friendships that underpin the appreciation and adoration fans carry for all One Direction members. They want to know what inspires him – not who. Does he order a cheeseburger at McDonald’s, or does he enjoy a Big Mac on cheat days?

Similarly, many fans will find the sudden recognition by Rolling Stone and other acclaimed music reviewers to be bittersweet. While they will feel proud of Harry at seeing him succeed and get this approval, they also call it for what it is: a thinly-veiled rejection of One Direction and the Harry Styles prior to his solo debut. It is an honour to be hailed as the next David Bowie or Mick Jagger, but the line between inspiration and imitation is thin, which makes fans wary. What is more – the celebration of Harry’s apparent ‘new honesty and authenticity’ (again a rejection of his previous work) is rather awkward, when the reviews do not seem to provide Harry Styles with the room to be iconic as himself. They make sure to draw comparisons with a multitude of icons from the past, as if every choice he’s made has been infused with the mentality to emulate his predecessors. Fans want Harry to succeed by being true to who he is, and while his music gets recognition, it’s still not perceived as being something that is only fully Harry’s.Finally, it is important to not just address what fans expect from their idol, but also what they take away from them. In Rolling Stone, Harry Styles shared that what hurts him are fundamental issues that are lacking in today’s society – things like ‘equal rights, for everyone – all races, sexes, everything’. He’s a feminist, has been involved in the HeforShe campaign, and has expressed his support for LGBTQ+ as part of One Direction. He was frequently seen waving a rainbow flag in concerts, stated that ‘here at One Direction, we love love. Love is love,’ and has worn rainbow bracelets – most recently even a rainbow pin proudly fastened on his shirt. Moreover, he’s taken great care in answering questions about partners, favouring the word ‘spouse’ and always using gender-neutral pronouns. Harry is proud of the fact that he wears 26inch women’s skinny jeans, and continues to present himself as vulnerable in photoshoots, and to break gender norms by not shying away from the colour pink, silk and sheer, glitter boots, or wearing nailpolish. While some might not see the significance in this, these moves are incredibly powerful and can help people of all ages feel more accepted and comfortable with being who they are – it makes them feel normal and safe in a heteronormative world that is dominated by gender stereotypes. What is more, it reinforces their love and support for the artist, as they agree with their worldview – it’s a connection on a more fundamental level, that is not fueled by romantic love interest, or aesthetically pleasing faces and outfits.

Moreover, it inspires fans to change their views on society, and to extend the same charity and empathy as their idol does. In this respect, One Direction and its individual members have - unfortunately - been grossly underrated. Only recently did Steve Aoki note the incredibly power held by this fanbase in particular, calling the fans ‘an institution, like an army of bees’, recognizing how Louis Tomlinson’s fans were mainly responsible for his debut single’s smash success – creating and coordinating their own promotional campaigns, creating merchandise and posters, and requesting the song on radios. But this dedication does not limit itself to seeing their favourite artist succeed. Inspired by the great amount of charity work that One Direction has done itself, ranging from participating in Comic Relief and being patrons of numerous charities to Louis Tomlinson spending over 3 million pounds to organize a fundraiser in the form of a Princess Ball for ill children, the fans have bolstered this attitude to give to those in need and started charity drives in honour of the multiple members. The popular account 1DFansGive encourages fans to donate money to the charities that Harry and his peers are patrons of or have expressed their support for – with unparalleled, consistent success.

These positive aspects of the unique relationship between Harry Styles/1D and the fanbase are entirely lacking or even erased in media representation, which further fuels the dichotomy and love-hate relationship that fans have with media outlets. They stigmatize his fans as being teenage girls who fantasize about a relationship with him, and therefore are obsessed with his sex life – when this is frankly an insulting and gross overgeneralization. It is off-putting that fans are shamed for behavior they do not demonstrate, all the while the press engages in exactly that same behavior. It is not fans who force the idea of Harry Styles dating Taylor Swift or Kendall Jenner down anyone’s throats – it’s the press. It is not fans that prioritize his romantic relationships over his musical abilities and interests – it’s the press. On the other hand – it’s not the press that makes an artist successful, it’s the fans. And most importantly, it’s not the press that annually raises thousands of dollars inspired by an artist’s activism - it’s the fans. And the press doesn’t even report it; not even when they attempt fansplaining.

My advice? Don’t try something if the verb is derived from a harmful, toxic, divisive, humiliating and belittling behaviour that takes away someone’s voice and agency. Fansplaining is just as appreciated by fans as mansplaining is by women - not at all.

Ok I don’t have anyone to talk to right now, I just had to be socially trans in person for an hour while signing legal forms, and I’m strung out and tired. SO I’M GOING TO RANT ABOUT CONSTRUCTED LANGUAGES AND MAGICAL SCRIPTS.

Look, I get it. You want your conlang/magic script to look mystical, cryptic, special. You want it to look different than any other language while still looking like a language people write in. If you’re a spiritual person or magic-user this may even be a language you’re channeling and that you believe to be ancient in nature or otherwise pre-existing. But 95% of conlangs and magical scripts look totally fake and made-up, and this is not a judgment I’m casting on their actual grammatical structure or language theory or the languages they were based on. The thing that makes a language look like one people ever actually wrote in for hundreds of years, that makes it look like the letters/characters are all from the same language, is that it looks like a language that’s been written in whatever tools you are claiming or feel like it was traditionally written in.

Let’s take cuneiform:

Looks super-neat, right? Man, who’d ever think of having those wedges in an alphabet! It’s totally different than most modern languages out there and very distinctive, and the wedges are consistent across the letters, so it makes them all look like they’re from the same alphabet. This wasn’t just arbitrarily designed as a font style. There is a reason for this!

Cuneiform writing was pressed into wet clay with these shaped bits and that’s why it looks like that. It got stamped with wedges. That’s how (this type of) writing was done at the time. It’s a technological solution and that’s what makes the lettering get that peculiar stylization. You’ll get variants based on craftsmanship and tools, but basically the method is the same across various implementations. Once someone tried to write that in pencil, you could imagine it’d look different, and you’d see evidence of people’s hand-motion between strokes, becoming more of a tilt between letters.

For instance, English looks like it does, even in tumblr’s sans-serif fonts, because it can be constructed with a pen. When it gets fancy with a variable-width pressure-sensitive pen nib, you can get more complex and flowy, but notice the flow and arc still go with the movements natural for a hand to make:

Those little trails between letters exist today because nib pens were drippy and left ink trails. The written language adapted to the tools to incorporate the trails and still make it look legible, and that’s why we have cursive writing at all. This is a simplified history but it’s basically there to make you think about the letter shapes in various traditional ways of writing in English and why it looks like it does instead of like cuneiform.

Which brings me to conlangs. If you want your brand new ancient-looking language to truly look like people have used it for eons, write it out with the tools you think those people would have used, and keep adapting the letters if you find that, say, a brush or nib pen can’t construct the weird arcs and whirls you’ve designed the language to have. Languages by and large are made to be convenient to write. If you don’t know how to write kanji, Chinese words probably look complex and arbitrary to you. But their shapes are logical when you see them written with a brush:

So if you have some arcane-looking swooshy script but it still looks kind of fake, think about where the weight should really be. It should be where the brush presses down heavier and the trailing marks are where the brush lifts up (and usually leaves the paper and ends the stroke). Where the stroke is wide on one end is where the brush initially met the paper. Above, you can see how one swish immediately flows into another, the strokes are like arrows leading across the page when you understand how they’re created. Pick up a brush and figure out an actual stroke order for your symbol. If logically the stroke seems like it’d leave someone’s hand smearing it trying to follow its arc, then logically that symbol would eventually get redesigned if it were in an actual language. Someone would figure out a better way to write it and everyone would adopt that way over time.

So practice writing your language with different tools. Consider a calligraphy course or even just a kit with a guidebook (or youtube training videos!). Written language is a tool that people use, magical as it can be. And if you’re using it for magical purposes such as woodburning it into tools or painting it onto things or writing it onto paper, consider that your symbols will change a bit according to the tools, just like with mundane languages. A wedge-shaped wood burner will get you something a bit closer to cuneiform. A brush will get you something flowy and not super-precise. Pencil will not leave ink trails and will get you something more technical and practical. Your written language logically should shift for that and adapt like a proper tool. And if you do that right, if you really use it, then it will look much more genuine because it will have experienced an actual evolution of form adapting to the physical tools it’s been worked with via.

And if you’re not using it for magic but are just using it for a fantasy setting where people use it for magic in the story, all the above would still apply to them.

Even with just one symbol not meant to be in a greater language, think about the tool you’re creating it with. It’s hard to make a realistic brush-style symbol in pencil. Use the tool that fits the symbol and you’ll produce something much more genuine-looking.

That’s it! I’m not a language expert, this is not meant to be A Real Factual History Of All Language, it’s just a rough primer in How To Make It Look Like A Language Is Actually Written With. It’s not meant to be a critique in whether your magical language is “real” enough or “magical” enough either. It’s simply some pointers in how to make a magical/constructed language that’s actually reasonable to write with and suits the tools you’re writing it with and the purposes you mean it for. Hundreds of years of written language evolution is hard to replace, but I believe in you.

M/M romance recs

Here’s a list of my favourites! Organised by genre, with very broad summaries. All of them have HEA, all the m/m romances are the central ones.

Names in bold have POC protagonists, names in cursive have disabled protagonists (be it physical disability, mental illness or chronic illness). In series with multiple couples, it’s usually one or more.

Feel free to ask me about triggers for any of them!

  • Soldier’s Scoundrel by Cat Sebastian

Disabled regency war vet aristocrat decides to hang around a self-proclaimed ex-criminal helping those who need help. Said ex-criminal tries not to be charmed, ends up catching feelings instead

  • The Lawrence Browne Affair by Cat Sebastian

Confidence artist grows a conscience and angers dangerous people, so he needs to pose as a secretary to a scientifically minded, but eccentric Lord. Really beautiful portrayal of people on autistic spectrum and anxiety.

  • The Ruin of a Rake by Cat Sebastian

Posh and straight-laced gentleman has to help a famous scoundrel aristocrat to restore his image after a raunchy novel supposedly based on his exploits gets published. Contains ridiculous amounts of adorable kittens, tasty pastries and also wonderful portrayal of chronic illnesses

  • Sins of the Cities by KJ Charles

Trilogy set in victorian London, during the horrible London Fog of 1873. Three wonderful and diverse couples (one is half-indian with dyspraxia, one is non-binary, one was born with partial arm, one is near-sighted), murder mystery, fake mediums, lost earls, intrigue! It’s so good

  • Wanted, a Gentleman by KJ Charles

A delightful and frankly hilarious regency romp through British countryside. An unlikely couple of men need to travel to Gretna Green to save a young girl from potentially dangerous marriage. One of the protagonists is a black ex-slave merchant and the book touches upon his experiences (very respectfully!)

  • Society of Gentlemen by KJ Charles

A Society of gentlemen who like other gentlemen, centered around Lord Richard Vane and his friends and acquitances. Set during the radical uprising during the Regency, it has everything- friendships and families, sedition, intrigue, bookstores and good wine, valets being the mightiest strategists and amazing lovable radicals. This trilogy is honestly my favourite thing EVER.

  • Think of England by KJ Charles

Wounded during the Boer war, seemingly because of treason and betrayal, Archie Curtis sets off to a countryside mansion to get to the bottom of the matter. Completely unprepared for the task, he teams up with Daniel da Silva, the elegant jewish poet, who is much more capable than he seems. Absolutely delightful <333

  • Whyborne and Griffin series by Jordan L. Hawk

The adventures of a shy sorcerer linguistic nerd, his detective husband, the most badass lady archeologist (the actual love of my life) and more, as they save the world from otherworldly beings bent on destroying it. Will make you cry about found families, strong and wonderful friendships and broken people finding strength in each other. Has magic, archeology, monsters, reluctant travels, lesbian warrior fishes and the best ginger cat in the world.

  • Hexworld series by Jordan L. Hawk

Turn of the century New York witch detectives and their familiars must fight to uncover a conspiracy plan to change the world. Really amazing worldbuilding, the magic system is very cool and it will make you furious about the treatment of familiars. The familiars are, generally speaking, fucking hilarious.

  • A Charm of Magpies by KJ Charles

Filthy-mouthed dominant earl falls in love with a stubborn and heroic wizard, together they create magic. A lot of people want that magic though, and it gets ugly. First KJ book I’ve ever read and I fell in love instantly. Has two more books set in the same universe with different protagonists and those are also amazing. (Rag and Bone is the one with black protagonist)

  • A Death by Silver by Melissa Scott and Amy Griswold

University-era friends need to figure out their confused emotions, while investigating a murder that brings out bad memories. Very good and soft, with even a better sequel

  • Downtime by Tamara Allen

When in London for a case, FBI agent gets sent back in time to Victorian London. While there, he finds out magic is real. Decides that since he’s there anyway, might as well investigate who Jack the Ripper was. Very sweet and soft

  • Restless Spirits by Jordan L. Hawk

A medium and a scientist bent on proving said medium to be a fraud get chosen to be in a contest to prove which side is better. They end up having to team up to save lives of people around.

  • The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal by KJ Charles

Journalist and writer Robert Caldwell has been a close friend and lover of ghost hunter Simon Feximal for years and has been chronicling their adventures. Now, he finally writes the true story of their life together. Warning: this book will absolutely ruin you for years to come. You will be a mess whenever you think of the book and you will enjoy every second of it.

  • Green Men by KJ Charles

Set in the world of The Secret Casebook of Simon Feximal. Only few years after WW1, Britain is still recovering from the war. Having lost an entire generation of youth and most of the sorcerers the country had, those left are completely unprepared for what’s to come. Wonderful characters, the softest romance I’ve read possibly ever and beautifully melancholic. Best KJ book, in my opinion.

  • Shadow of the Templar by M. Chandler

FBI agent and his team are tasked with catching a famous international art thief, they end up kinda sorta accidentally adopting him instead. One of the funniest series I’ve ever read, honestly.

  • Cut&Run by Abigail Roux and Madeleine Urban

The incredible adventures on an unlikely pair of FBI agents go from enemies to lovers. Includes serial killers, undercover luxury yacht trips, tiger trafficking, drugs, marine buddies and one of the genuinely best character developments I’ve read. Warning, the first book is a bit shit. The rest is absolutely incredible though.

  • The General and the Horse-lord by Sarah Black

Retired ex-military lovers need to figure out what to do with their relationship, now that they’re civillians. A soft look at older gay people still figuring out their sexuality.

  • The Foxhole Court by Nora Sakavic

Neil Josten is on the run from his mafia murderous father and gets signed up for a professional college sports team, while people are still after him. It’s a really powerful emotional journey, but contains a large amount of a very triggering content, so be safe please.

  • THIRDS series by Charlie Cochet

FBI like team consisting of shifters and their partners must investigate conspiracy and threats against the new shifter population. Ridiculously hilarious at times, absolutely heartbreaking at other.

  • Deep Magic by Gillian St. Kevern

A story steeped in welsh folklore, with beautiful mermaid princes and knights who will save them. Shows the power stories have to change our lives. Plus it’s free so what are you waiting for?

  • Psycop series by Jordan Castillo Price

A medium detective and his partner investigate a series of supernatural crimes. People are horrible, corporations are horrible, ghosts are horrible and lbr, everything is kinda horrible, but it gets better.

  • Wriggle and Sparkle by Megan Derr

The adventures of Lynn the Kraken shifter and Anderson the unicorn shifters, their detective careers, and their life together. Honestly adorable. And when I say adorable, I mean sparkles-on-rainbow-filled-cupcake kind of adorable. Also, Lynn’s gender-presentation is fluid and it’s absolutely wonderful.

  • Captive Prince by C.S. Pacat

Prince gets betrayed and sent as a slave to his sworn enemy, they end up working together to save their countries and fall in love. The best enemies to lovers example. Has amazing and complex politics, unreliable narrator and great worldbuilding. You’ve probably already heard of this book, but if you’re worried about triggers, please ask someone who actually read it, because there’s a lot of misinformation flying around.

  • Nightrunner series by Lynn Flewelling

The fantasy series of your dreams. There is ancient evil being revived, war is coming, everyone is bisexual and the kingdom is ruled by an ancient line of warrior queens. Everyone is wonderful and charming, characters are complex and the story will make you laugh and cry.

  • The God Eaters by Jesse Hajicek

Western-style world, where gods are reborn as humans, and one of them tried to control the whole world. It doesn’t go exactly as he planned.

  • Lord of the White Hell by Ginn Hale

Teenage genius inventor gets accepted to a prestigious boarding school in enemy territory. His room-mate might be demon-possesed and there’s some evil magic lurking around.

  • Champion of the Scarlet Wolf by Ginn Hale

Somewhat sequel to Lord of the White Hell. Disgraced noble travels to a faraway country, where he saves an injured dog. Turns out the dog isn’t just a dog, magic is everywhere around them and there’s a witch war coming.

  • Fairytales Slashed vol. 1 by Megan Derr

A collection of gay fairy tales. All kinds of stories with all kinds of characters (my favourite one is the one with the jester <333)

  • Dance with the Devil by Megan Derr

Adventures of half-ghost detective, his demon husband, imp partner, witch colleague and a vampire. Really cute and intriguing, with mysteries and conspiracies.

  • Dance in the Dark by Megan Derr

Set in the same universe as Dance with the Devil (there’s an entire series). Human son of a dracula becomes a detective, moves out to the city to help others, and gains a lover who only visits him in the dark.

  • The Rapier Brothers by Megan Derr

A collection of short stories centered around swordsmen. Three different couples, three really cute stories. Love it.

A/N: Part II of businessman Harry. It contains smut, daddy kink and it’s quite long. I’m stil not sure if it’s alright, but I hope you like it.

Harry and Y/N are enemies in the business world but the perfect partners under the sheets.

While no one would ever dream of describing Y/N as anything less than a genius, a business luminary whose accomplished eminence is often described as freakish by those who are several decades older than her yet much less successful, she could humbly admit to all of them that she was the biggest fool in the world for thinking that getting over Harry Styles would be easy. She didn’t want him back; she just wanted what he had taken from her. He could keep the black lace thong he had tucked into his pocket a couple of months ago after he had bent her over his desk, raining dirty words and harsh nibbles down her neck. But her sanity? He would definitely have to give that back. The sooner the better. As for delivery preferences, no white roses or puke-inducing handwritten notes this time, please. And while he was at it, she had another request: If he was going to be in her head all day, he should at least regard some sort of decency and put some clothes on. How inconsiderate of him. Chivalry is dead.

hello!! i was wondering if you know of any famous/not famous fics but specifically where one of them is in a band? thank you!!!!

hmmm … okay, lets say only band member and not solo singer , right?

- Empty Skies : For three years, Harry has been running from his past. Now, he is moving to London and pledges to fulfil his only dream – making it big in the music industry. Not everyone has a place, though, and the competition is tough. As is his past catching up on him.Louis is part of the biggest boy band of the world, and getting there had meant a lot of hard work, as well as sacrificing parts of his heart and soul. He’s still happy. Maybe not as happy as he could be, but who is he to complain? Featuring Perrie as Harry’s adorable flatmate, Niall as his manager, and Liam and Zayn as Louis’ bandmates.     (134k)

- zipping across the stars : One Direction consists of five people; Louis, Zayn, Niall, Liam, and Gemma. When the band preforms at Wembley Stadium the boys are introduced to Gemma’s younger brother Harry.Louis wishes he had known that before he threw himself at the boy for six hours but he can’t stop now can he? (10k)

- led by your beating heart : AU where Harry’s in One Direction, Louis isn’t, and they reconnect over a game of ‘Call or Delete’. (29k)

- My English Love Affair : The thing about sleeping with a member of a famous indie band is that the inevitability of having a song written about you is most likely a hundred percent. The second thing is that in the end, nobody’s supposed to find out it’s about you. The one where Harry writes a song about his English love affair and Louis sleeps with someone in White Eskimo and all he gets is a stupid song written about him. (19k)

- Thought The Song Was Sung :Louis never auditioned for the X-Factor.  Years later, Harry’s just another gay ex-boybander who lives alone with his cat…   until Niall decides to take matters into his own hands and set up a profile for Harry on a dating website. (12k)

- California Sold    : Notoriously closeted boyband member Harry Styles is famous on a global scale, meanwhile Louis, as his best friend, is back home in Manchester, living the typical life of a 24 year old. When Harry needs Louis with him in LA, a publicity stunt gone wrong changes their friendship forever. A fake-relationship AU between two lifelong best friends. (123k)

- Of Love and Blood and Hate  “You auditioned without me,” Louis says, his voice disbelieving. “How the fuck can you stand there and hurl all this shit at me when you literally left me behind to go audition for the show we’d been dreaming of being on together?”  “What was I supposed to do, Louis? You refused to audition with me unless we were honest about being a couple. I knew we never would have made it past the first auditions. You left me no other choice; it was either audition alone or not audition at all.“  Louis feels his own eyes start to fill with tears. “You chose a fucking reality show over our relationship. If you still don’t see that you made the wrong choice than I don’t think there’s any reason for me to waste another second here.”A Famous/Non-Famous turned Famous/Famous AU where Harry makes the biggest mistake of his life and Louis’ left to pick up the pieces. (24k)

- say you want me : Louist95: @HarryStyles, I’m personally offended that you haven’t invited me to your concert in Leeds next week. Proper fan I am and all.HarryStyles: @Louist95 Proper fan? I’m personally offended on behalf of all our fans everywhere that you’ve lumped yourself with them. ~ A Famous/Not-Famous AU featuring Liam, Zayn, and Harry as the members of Sonic Boom, an English band that unexpectedly sky rocketed to international fame, Niall as their biggest fan, and Louis as the exact opposite. Harry’s a closeted pop star and Louis is the uni student he keeps fighting with on Twitter. It’s all silly banter until it turns into something else. (31k)

- the impossible now :: A wish on Christmas Eve sends Louis to an alternate dimension where Harry is a member of One Direction. (50k)

- you’ve set on me : Harry’s been completely blindsided, is the thing. Like a car without headlights crashing into him. It’s not that he thought he’d never see Louis again in his life. It’s just this. He wasn’t ready for this. au. louis’ in an obscure band. harry’s an international popstar. their paths aren’t meant to cross, not like this, but when louis’ band signs on as harry’s opening act, both harry and louis are forced to confront the open wounds of their shared past. (31k).

- If You Love Me Right, We Fuck For Life       : Harry and Louis loved each other once, it was bright and beautiful, a love that people envied. But Louis took an opportunity he couldn’t refuse and joined a band with Zayn Malik and Liam Payne. Harry and Louis’ relationship took a turn for the worst when their band got signed and the couple broke up as a result, neither too sure if it was for the best. When Louis runs into Harry a couple years later, feelings are rekindled. (7k)

- Obviously: Louis is blind and a fan of One Direction, aka Harry Styles, and when they meet Louis’ life turns upside down. (64k)

- You You You : Or, the one where Harry and Louis meet at a club and Louis takes Harry home, only for him to realize that the boy who just made him breakfast half naked is Harry Styles from One Direction. (137k)

hallways in the pink album

So I had to drive for 8 hours the other day and basically listened to Harry’s album on repeat, alone with my thoughts…so the result is either gonna be awesome or totally weird, right? Anyway, I’ve seen some amazing interpretations (@seasurfacefullofclouds, @harryflyles and @iftheresnolove have all said brilliant things, and totally informed my understanding of the album/individual songs. Also, hi! Sorry if it’s weird to tag you!).

But as I drove through Ohio (how fun.), the motif of the “hallway” started to become key to my understanding of the album. It recurs multiple times (in MMitH, but also Only Angel and kinda the hotel room in FtDT), so it seems important! At first, it might not feel related to some of the other big themes in Harry’s album (like miscommunication and silence, which you can definitely tie to Harry’s personal relationships, and like…what the songs might be about on an individual level). But here’s my argument: I think the figure of the “hallway” is the album’s way of discussing how your environment can constrain your ability to communicate. Which maybe puts a more structural spin on the idea of “miscommunication.”

Basically I just think it’s interesting that an album Harry has consistently described as all about Freedom™ is so focused thematically on being trapped and not-in-control. (I mean, I personally think it’s 100% a way to work through the experience of being a closeted celebrity in a boy band, but you don’t have to agree!)

ANYWAY. Let’s start with what the image of a “hallway” evokes:

what makes you so qualified? - ian (nsfw)

Prompt: hi ok i know this isn’t very specific but i NEED something angsty with ian so if you could make that happen that’d be pretty good :-) pls & thanks

Ian does a Content Cop on the reader’s YouTube channel. Then there is hate sex. That’s it. Enjoy the nut. Warning for mention of hate comments, and vulgar language.

Being invited to Vid-Con had been a dream come true. Just one year ago you’d started up your channel, and it had blown up within a few months. The first videos were extremely simple, just you sitting in front of a camera and ranting about goofy little things like books you were assigned in class, or the issues with the buses in your city, or things that went wrong at work. You knew they were little things, but the point of your channel was to seemingly get worked up over very little things for comedic effect. You’d found a niche and had amassed a just over a million subscribers and had even collabed with other YouTubers in your area. Of course, there were plenty of people outside of your fan sphere that found your videos pointless, no one bigger than yourself had much to really say about you other than that your name was (y/n) and you ran a channel of comedic rants on useless topics…that was until one morning two weeks ago when you woke up to more twitter notifications than you’d ever had in your life telling you to look at the iDubbbzTV channel’s latest video. You knew it wasn’t going to be good as someone who was a casual fan of Ian Carter’s work, so you were reluctant to look. You were right to have been. There at the top of his page was a 20-minute Content Cop on your channel, and it always had 4 million views.

You watched the whole thing, there was no point in wondering what the video contained. He really dug in, talking at length about the topics to chose to rant about weren’t very interesting, that your videos were always over ten minutes, that your use of jumpcuts was obnoxious, and that you were a serial offender when it came to using clickbaity thumbnails. He ended the video by dressing up as you and mocking the way you spoke and how you used your hands to speak. Your followers had been sending apologies and compliments, and it was nice but you weren’t saddened, you were angry. You’d thought Ian had an eye for when something was meant to be comedy, and you were hardly the worst when it came to extending videos or using obvious thumbnails.

Leading up to Vid-Con, you had taken a hit in subscribers for sure, but managed to rebound back to just over a million the day before. You’d been ridiculed endlessly by Ian’s fanbase and you weren’t oblivious to the injustice. Usually when Ian went after a single person, they fucked up big time. You hadn’t even had any scandals, hadn’t done anything but made content he didn’t think was up to his standards. Keemstar, Leafy, Tana, they’d all done something else to deserve it, and you couldn’t figure out why Ian had chosen you to fuck with when there were so many other channels run by scandal prone people. Now that you were here however, you didn’t want to dwell on it. You were in a group with a few of your YouTube friends and were being approached pretty consistently by subscribers that wanted photos and signatures. It was fantastic to meet them all, and only a few brought up the Content Cop episode.

You were signing the right sneaker of a girl who was probably a year younger than you were when she asked you if it made you uncomfortable that iDubbbz and his buddies were hanging out around the door. You looked up quickly and the girl was right. Ian Carter was sitting on a couch next to his friends Max, Chad and George. You’d never had any problems with Max, Chad or George, you’d never even met them in person, but they weren’t even paying you any attention. Ian however, was looking right at you for just a moment before he averted his gaze.

Couldn’t he at least let you enjoy VidCon without butting into your business? He’d already fucked up the last few weeks enough with his stupid video and now he had the audacity to come in and stare at you. He was probably just trying to see how many people would pick on you about the video. You moved to get up as soon as the girl walked off, and even as one of your friends pulled on your arm to get you to sit back down you didn’t even flinch. You walked straight up to Ian and his group of friends. Ian was watching you again and this time you didn’t even care. It felt like everyone was staring at you as you stopped right in front of Ian, standing over him.

He had a baseball cap on, and his hair was long enough that it curled just a little where it peaked out of his hat. He was in that same sweatshirt and sweatpants style outfit he was always in and his stupid glasses were off kilter. This was the man that had taken shots at you? He looked even less threatening in person, especially as he sat on the couch and just looked up at you, his mouth shut for once. You grabbed his wrist and jerked it forward, and his eyes widen as his glasses slip just a little. “I need to talk to you,” you say quietly, but with just as much malice as you feel. You can’t help it. You’re usually cool headed but Ian just strikes a nerve in you.

Max looks like he’s about to say something, but George hits him to shut him up. Ian looks over at his friends, then back at you and gets up. He’s really tall standing up, but it doesn’t make you lose your nerve. He may be bigger but he’s just a bully, and you’ve stood up to plenty of bullies in your time. You pull him a few feet towards the door and he follows he out of the room. You end up leading him down an empty hallway and outside of the door of the maintenance closet that holds supplies for one of the used rooms. Hesitantly, you open the door and guide him inside before closing the door behind you.

“Why the hell are we in here? If you wanted to bitch at me about my Content Cop, you could have done it where we were,” Ian says snidely, leaning against the wall. There’s not a lot of light in the closet, but you can make him out clearly enough. He’s fucking smirking.

“And give you the satisfaction of watching everyone in that room laugh at me? That was not going to happen Ian. I’m already being called some nasty shit Ian! I can’t open my comment box without seeing thousands of comments that say “kill yourself” or “delete your channel cunt” or “I hope you lose all your subs and die of cancer”. Ian’s face softened a little

“I never told anyone to do that. You seem like a nice enough person, so I didn’t even touch your character. I just went after your content,” he said, lowering his voice a little.

“What makes you so qualified to tell me my content is garbage Ian Carter? I haven’t done shit to you. I’ve never even talked about you in a video, or about any YouTubers that aren’t my friends for that matter. Why would you even pick to do it on me over every other channel just like mine?” Ian was looking at you intently, but he seemed to be looking at your lips rather than your eyes.

“I just noticed your videos the most,” he admitted. Your eyes drifted downwards and you were suddenly very aware that he was at least half hard in his grey sweats, and they didn’t do much to hide it. He cleared his throat and shifted a little, trying to casually but his hands in his pockets to conceal it.

“Christ Ian, are you serious? I’m trying to have a conversation with you about your stupid video and you’re fucking getting off on it?” You could almost see his face go red, even in the low lighting of the closet.

“What do you want me to do about it cunt? I can think your content is awful and still be attracted to you! Am I supposed to just will my cock to go down? Anatomy 101 says it doesn’t work like that! If you want to get rid of it than do something about it!” He said it in anger but as soon as it left his mouth he seemed to wish he could take it back. You’re going to hit him, you really are, but your hand ends up in his hair instead and suddenly your yanking his head down so you can kiss him.

He kisses you back, almost biting your lip in eagerness and it gives you a smug satisfaction to know that the great iDubbbz could be brought down with one little kiss. You’ve got him against the wall and he’s trying to flip you around so he can pin you but you won’t give into him. He already got his turn to control a situation. It was your turn. He’s nearly a foot taller than you, and you’re on your toes to reach him, but his hands on your waist are almost pulling you up to meet him. You bring your lips down to roughly kiss at the pale expanse of skin over his neck and you can feel how obviously hard he is despite it seemingly like it was trying to angle his hips to hide it.  “What, haven’t gotten laid in a while Ian?” You mock, reaching down to rub him through the fabric of his sweatpants.

He’s been trying to be quiet, but you hear his breath hitch in his throat as he slides his hands down your back and hooks his long fingers around the waistband of your leggings and pulls them down to your knees to get them out of the way before he reaches a finger down to rub at your clit through your panties while he brings his lips back to yours. “Don’t pretend like you don’t want this too,” he grunts.

As much as you want this, you can’t help but want to make Ian pay for fucking with your channel. He’s trying to get his pants down but you aren’t having it, choosing instead to rub him through his sweats until there’s a visible wet spot on the front of his pants that there’s no way he’ll be able to hide. Finally, you start to pull down his sweats, but he’s eager enough that he almost beats you too it. You smirk at the large stain of precum spreading across the front of his boxers, but he’s already pulling your shirt off, and then you’re helping him rip off his sweatshirt. You hear the fabric tear as you pull on it. “I liked that hoodie you…you…” he can’t even finish the insult before you’re kissing him roughly yet again.

“I fucking hate you Ian,” you growl in his ear as he pushes you against the wall and strips his boxers from his legs. He presses his body entirely against yours as he roughly nips at your kiss swollen lips. He gets on his knees to pull down your underwear and kisses your slit before pulling you down on the ground with him. There’s hardly any space, and his back and shoulders are pressed against the wall as you crawl over him and slide yourself down onto his length. You think you see his eyes roll back just a little before he blinks at you.

“God you’re tight, haven’t found anyone willing to settle for a while huh?” You grind slowly against him, adjusting to his length and how good he feels inside you. That shuts him up pretty quickly. You’re riding him, you have all the power and he’s just lying there but for some reason he’s still sweating.

“Says the man so eager to get his dick wet he pops one the second he’s alone with a girl,” you shoot back. You anchor your hands against his chest to give you some leverage to move. He seems mesmerized by your chest for a moment but he must have been listening because his eyes fly to yours. “Do you want me to get up and leave right now Ian? I could. I could leave you here aching because you didn’t get to finish.” He groans and sits up, twisting you around so he’s on top of you. He snaps his hips against yours sucks at your pulse point until he knows he’s going to leave an ugly mark.

“No, I don’t want you to leave,” he says, as he finds a rhythm that makes you shake. “I worked so hard to get your attention and I intend to keep it.” You don’t even think he realized what he just admitted to as he grabs your right leg and hooks it around his hip so he can go deeper. He’s hitting your g-spot on every thrust and your nails are digging into his back, partially because it feels good and partially just to leave the marks there. He’s using his left hand to rub the pads of his fingers over your clit and you have to cover your mouth with your forearm as you come to shut yourself up.

Ian’s hips stutter for a few seconds and his quickly pulls out and spills onto your stomach. You had been planning on mocking his orgasm face, but the way his lips part and his eyes squeeze shut is actually really endearing. He grabs for his boxers, the only choice he really has, and wipes you clean with them before tossing them aside and collapsing right next to you.

You start to sit up and look for your clothes and he actually looks kind of sad. “What? Do you like to cuddle,” you tease him. He shrugs and pulls his sweatpants on, wincing a little when he sees the obvious wet patch on the front of them.

“Yeah. I do, um, I know you hate me and all but I’m at the Hyatt, Room 635, if you want to um,” he clears his throat.

“Are you asking me to come to your room to cuddle you?” You ask him incredulously as you pull your shirt back on. He yanks back on his ripped sweatshirt and grabs his discarded glasses off the floor. You sigh in defeat and reach out to mix his messy hair and place his hat back on his head. You pause and look at him, still kneeling over him. He nods, just once, his head barely even moving.

“You know you didn’t have to drag my channel just to get me to notice you, asshole,” you snort as you finish making yourself look presentable. Ian’s got several obvious bruises on his neck and you feel just a bit of pride that it was you that put them there.

“It wasn’t just to get you to notice me, I really do think your content needs some work. It just wasn’t quite bad enough to make a legit content cop on,” he admits scratching at the back on his neck sheepishly.

“Well your stamina needs some work, so how about we help each other out,” you tease as you open the closet door, peaking out to make sure the hall is still empty. It is. The next event isn’t starting for several hours.

“It’s a deal [y/n]” he agrees, following you back out into the hallway. You have to part ways as to not seem suspicious, but you can’t help but notice, as you sit back down where you had been before, that Ian is playing with the new hole in his sweatshirt.

The Present Is A Gift

YouTuber!Au Series

Even over the loud chatter of the other customers in the cafe, Soonyoung’s ears perked up at the sound of Chan’s deep sigh. The hushed sound somehow managed to cut through all the other noise as the two friends waited in the line to order.

“What’s up, Dino?” Soonyoung asked, looking up from his phone which was open to twitter.

“Hmm? Oh, it’s nothing. I just haven’t gotten a lot of sleep lately.” Chan replied modestly.

“Ah, you’re really living the YouTuber lifestyle,” Soonyoung half-teased, “It’s not good to overwork yourself. What is it that you stay up to do? Writing? Filming?”

“Editing,” Chan ran a hand through his hair, burdened at even the slightest thought of the tedious task, “I’m still not used to the software. It always takes me so long to figure out how to create the effects I want.”

“You do know that you don’t have to keep torturing yourself like this, right? You can hire someone to edit for you.” Soonyoung suggested with a chuckle.

“I really don’t have the money to hire someone, or the time to interview people for that matter. I also don’t know anyone that’d be willing to do it for free.” Chan explained earnestly.

“Next!” The cashier called out.

Stepping forward, Soonyoung sent Chan a knowing grin, “I have someone in mind.”

Exhausted from yet another day of work, you flung the front door of your home open, slamming it shut again as you leaned your back against it. You let out a sigh as you slouched against the painted wood. As soon as you stood up straight again, your back cracked loudly three times, surely a sign that your new job was getting the best of you.

You slipped off your shoes and kicked them to the side, trudging along to your bedroom. You flung yourself onto your bed and enjoyed a few blissful moments of rest, only to be interrupted by a sudden vibration in your pocket.

You groaned, taking your phone out and reading the text you’d just received.

“(Y/N)!! How’s my beautiful cherry blossom child doing on this fine evening~?”

“Soonyoung literally what on earth do you want from me this time”

“Geez alright I’ll cut to the chase”

You rolled your eyes at your friend’s antics, feeling slightly sorry for snapping at him, but at the same time you felt like he should know how not in the mood you were.

“So, I may or may not need you to do a favor for me”

“I’ll consider, as long as you don’t need me to wash old ladies’ hair. I do that every day for 6 hours straight now :-)”

“Oh yeah you started working at that salon… How’s that working out?”

Groaning again at the thought of that cursed salon, you rolled over onto your back.

“It’s freakin terrible omg. My boss is like the real life version of Cinderella’s stepmother.. and the sheer amount of hairspray lingering in the air makes me feel like my nose hairs are being styled”

“Yeah it’s bad. Anyway can you just tell me about this favor you may or may not need?”

“So I’m friends with Chan aka Dino. You know his channel right?”

“Yeah why”

“He needs an editor for his videos and when he said that, I thought of you. Since you’re so tech savvy.”

“Soonyoung you know I literally don’t have time to do anything. I have to take up as many shifts as possible at work.”

“Ah that’s right….. You’re still saving up for a new laptop right”

“Well………. How about if you help Dino with his editing I’ll pitch in for it?”

Letting Soonyoung’s offer swim around in your head for a few seconds, you took a deep breath before ultimately giving in.

“Fine. Just text me when and where.”

For the last time, you stepped out of the salon. You closed the metal door quickly and quietly, finally evading the shrill voice of your now ex-boss. Just as an extra safety measure, you speed walked to the end of the block, looking over your shoulder every so often to make sure no one from the salon was following you.

Your pocket buzzed again. You pulled your phone out, reading yet another text from Soonyoung. He’d sent you the address of Chan’s apartment, since you were scheduled to edit his video of the week. It was relatively close by, so you found yourself at Chan’s front door in matter of mere minutes.

You gathered up the courage to knock on the door, opting to knock three times, but before you could make it to the third time the door was swung open.

Chan’s eyes opened almost comically wide when he saw you, his overall expression similar to that of a deer in the headlights. You got a good view of him, since your eyes widened in shock as well. You’d seen him before online, but you never expected Chan to be so handsome in person.

“Hi,” You started, trying to get a hold of yourself so you could make a good impression, “I’m (Y/N), I’m Soonyoung’s friend.”

“That’s right, you’re here to edit! I’m Chan, or Dino, nice to meet you.” He did his best to maintain a sunny disposition, but he too was stunned by the way you looked.

You stepped through the doorway, Chan held out a hand for you to shake. Though neither of you dared to grip the other’s hand too strongly, you could tell Chan was as friendly and warm as Soonyoung described. His shyness was somewhat comforting, seeing as you were relatively timid around strangers as well.

Noticing the shoe rack to the side of the door, you non-verbally asked if you should take your shoes off. Chan simply nodded in return, and you slipped off your ankle booties, giggling silently at the fact that Chan was able to communicate with you so fluently without even speaking. Presumably feeling the same way, Chan didn’t speak again until the two of you reached his office, which he genially led you to.

“So, this is my office,” He said, gesturing at his computer and his camera setup, “I just finished filming the say anything challenge with Seungcheol hyung, so there’s a lot more editing involved than usual, but it’s nothing you can’t handle right?”

“I see,” You nodded, taking in all the high quality equipment Chan had in the room, “And normally you would only film dance videos, right? So the editing would just consist of syncing the audio and the video?”

“Right. This PC is what I installed the video editing software on. Please, have a seat.” He pulled out the plush leather chair in very gentlemanly fashion, allowing you to sit on it, which you did with a grateful smile.

Chan pushed the chair in toward the desk, before logging into the PC for you. He pulled up what looked to be a dining chair and sat beside you, briefly coaching you on what to do.

“I always save raw footage to a folder called ‘unedited’, so if you just search in there for today’s date you should be able to find the footage you need. And really, all you have to do for this video is add some background music and cut out the bits that you think are boring. I trust you.”

“You do?” You asked, turning your head to face him.

You must have misinterpreted how far away from Chan actually sat, as when you turned around, his face was just a few inches away from yours.

The both of you separated almost immediately, faces turning equally red as well. Your lips naturally formed a shy smile, which you opted to cover with your hand. You didn’t want Chan to think of you as creepy, though part of you did enjoy the closeness.

“Yeah, I trust your judgement. Soonyoung hyung did speak very highly of you after all.” He gave you an encouraging smile, though it only lasted a couple of seconds, as his phone buzzed and he had to look at the notification.

His expression dropped slightly, “I’m so sorry, but I have to go collect the mail from my PO box. Minghao hyung wants to do a mail video together. I hate to leave you alone here, but you don’t need any more help, do you?”

“I think I’ve got everything under control.” You responded confidently.

“Great. I’ll be back in no more than an hour, I promise.” Chan sent you one last supportive glance before getting up and leaving.

Before he was completely out of the room, he turned back to you, which earned him a small wave goodbye from you. He simply chuckled before making his way to the front door, blushing like crazy the whole way. He undoubtedly found you cute, though you managed to make him blush and giggle like a lovesick schoolboy; something no one else had been able to do in a long time. He smiled to himself once more before leaving the apartment to meet with Minghao.

It was a bit awkward for you, just sitting in a stranger’s apartment all by yourself, but Chan was quite the charming character. You ended up not minding as much as you probably should have. You kept yourself occupied anyway, hard at work editing Chan’s video.

In this process, you found yourself smiling the entire time. Chan didn’t seem to have a bad trait to him. He was bright and kind to Seungcheol, even during times that he knew the footage would get edited out. His true colors really showed themselves, and they were even more beautiful than you’d expected, maybe even more so than you’d hoped. Was it possible… You were beginning to feel something?

You’d have sworn that it was only a matter of minutes, but when you heard the front door of the apartment being unlocked, you checked your phone to find out that it had actually been almost an hour.

Chan sprinted back to the office and you stood up to greet him, “Hey, I’m back! I kept my promise, by the way: fifty-six minutes! I would’ve been back sooner, but I stopped by the cafe that Soonyoung hyung likes to get you a coffee.”

He held out what looked to be an iced coffee of some kind, greatly anticipating your reaction with a gummy grin.

“Wow, thank you so much,” You took the coffee with a bow of thanks, “You know, it doesn’t even feel like you were gone for that long.”

“Well, time flies when you’re having fun. Was editing fun?” He asked with a laugh, gesturing for you to sit down again.

“Yeah, it was actually. I think I managed to get a lot done too. Do you want to see?” Both you and Chan returned to your original positions, seated next to each other.

“Absolutely! I bet it looks great.”

With the press of the spacebar, the video started playing. Chan’s eyebrows furrowed as he began concentrating. He became almost worryingly quiet, until something funny finally happened, that was when the two of you broke out into a fit of giggles. Eventually, the video became nearly inaudible over the sounds of your collective laughter.

“Wow, (Y/N),” Chan started, still trying to catch his breath, “I really like your sense of humor. The video looks great already, honestly, I could upload it just like this.”

“You really like it?” You asked hopefully.

“Yeah, it’s super funny! And, uh, you said you’d be okay with editing my videos regularly, right? I mean… I’d love to work with you more often.” His eyes shifted away from you, his cheeks becoming rosy again.

You couldn’t help but blush as well, “Sure, I’d love that too.”

It was the seventh week in a row you’d gone to Chan’s apartment to edit one of his videos. Although, it wasn’t the seventh time you’d gone to his apartment. The both of you began hanging out aside from editing, becoming more like friends than coworkers.

But, unlike the other times you’d gone to his home, this time the front door to Chan’s apartment was left open just a crack.

“Chan?” You called into the apartment.

After not receiving any answer, you resorted to knocking on the door, but still no one came. You felt bad about intruding, but since you were worried, you decided just to open the door and take a look around.

All of the lights were out, so you could barely see what was right in front of you. But as your vision adjusted to the darkness, you could see the outline of a person.

“Surprise!” Chan shouted as you finally found a light switch and turned the lights on.

“Chan… What’s going on?”

Chan stood in front of the coffee table so that he was blocking whatever was on it, but as he stepped to the side, you saw a brand new MacBook Pro opened on the table. It was so new that the screen protecting plastic hadn’t even been taken off yet.

“What’s this?” You asked, even more confused than before.

“On the first day we met,” He began, “I left to meet up with Minghao hyung, but Soonyoung hyung was there too. He told about how you were working that horrible job to save up for a new laptop. And I know he told you he’d help pay for a laptop, but my latest videos have been getting so many views. I’ve been getting so much more traffic to my channel than usual, and it’s all thanks to you. I didn’t have enough money to formally hire you, but I had enough for this, so I thought it was the least I could do.”

You walked over to the coffee table, not believing your eyes or your ears, “Chan, this is such an amazing gift, it was like the most you could’ve done!”

“That’s not true, I could do more. Like, maybe… Take you on a date?”

Your eyes widened as his question, but since this allowed you to get an especially good view of his adorable flustered face, there was no way you could have refused.

“I’d love to, but only if you let me pay. I didn’t do all that shampooing for nothing.”

“Deal.” Said Chan, with a shy chuckle.

There was no doubt in your mind, that was a chuckle you could hear every day.

Psst. You hear meh? ... Think about this: Soukoku model AU.

  • I personally feel like Photographer/Model AU would fit them better because Dazai would be really self conscious of his skin and, as a model, that doesn’t really make for a good career. We could forgo the bandages for an AU but ehhhh… So personally I would say, Dazai is a photographer and Chuuya is a model
  • Chuuya is an extremely famous model due to his peculiar working style. He models both men and women’s clothing. Suits, dresses, casual wear, swimsuits, lingerie, you name it, he’ll wear it. The fact that his body is so androgynous and that a lot of people can’t tell where he is actually a “he” is very controversial and that’s why he’s so famous and also why he is so sought-after in the modeling industry
  • The thing is, he’s one of those lucky few celebrities who manages to live a quiet life. There’s little to nothing in the tabloids about him. All the gossip about him is confined to internet forums that never see the light of day. He’s like a chameleon with the way that he can change his appearance so easily. Most people who see him out on the town don’t even realize that it’s him. He only has one social media account and it’s an instagram with nothing in the bio and no personal information on his picture captions. His website has very little personal information and mostly consists of contact information for his agent, Ozaki Kouyou, and his portfolio.

Run. Part 1

Requested By Anonymous. Clarke makes it back to the rocket in time for it to take off, but her helmet is still cracks and she’s covered in boils.

Clarke pushed her feet further with every bit of energy in her, she’d managed to get the antenna working and she only had nine minutes to get back before the others were forced to leave. Clarke could sense Praimfaya approaching behind her and she’d never moved so fast in her life. For little legs she was doing well, that was until she tumbled over a sticking up branch, crashing down on the floor the brunt of the force hitting the glass and she was on her feet nevertheless, moving once again as the crack in her mask expanded and soon enough the glass completely shattered and she could barely breath. She could hardly run anymore but her body pushed. She had to get to the rocket, she had to reach the others. She had to get back to Bellamy.

Out of breath she fell into the lab, helmet long gone but her skin was bubbling and burning, screeching in pain, her suit had been slightly torn by the fall. Her pain filled cries were heard from down the stairs and in seconds footsteps were echoing towards her until she saw a fuzzy vision of Bellamy and Murphy. They were yelling but it was only muffled as her ears burned with boils. She felt the blood trickle out of her mouth as she collapsed in someone’s arms before feeling herself get carried towards the glistening white rocket.

“Get her in fast, we need to leave now!” It was clearly Raven’s voice but she couldn’t see her, only hearing a mumble of mortified gasps. Clarke could only imagine what she looked like, she gathered it was an unpleasant from the sharp gasps. She heard a slam of a hatch and she knew soon enough Raven would be shouting for them to hold on. But Clarke knew she might not make it to that point, she could barely see or hear and she felt the sizzling flaming all over her body, she just had one thing to say if this really was her time to die.

“B-Bell-” She hissed through the pain, it was harder to talk than she thought. The burning coming from around her mouth too, making it even worse. Whoever was beside her must of heard her struggle too and scolded.

“Sh Clarke, you’re just making your injuries worse. You get sick before you get better alright.” It was definitely Bellamy’s optimism, he was close to her she could feel it, there was a click of a belt and she wondered if he was in his seat yet. But Raven yelled out.

“Bellamy, sit your ass down before you get thrown around this rocket like a ping pong ball!” Raven demanded and Clarke heard a faint click before the rocket began to rattle to life, preparing to shoot off into the atmosphere. “Get ready girls and boys!”

With that Clarke felt the rocket be released from it’s launchpad, the entire time there was a gentle hold on her hand, she knew it was Bellamy because he was gentle with her injuries even though it still hurt, she didn’t want him to let go so she didn’t complain. If she was to die in the rocket she’d at least want it to be in his hold. The burns and boils effects were intensifying, Clarke cried out in pain.

“My hands feel like someone has just ripped them off, I can’t imagine the pain she’s feeling.” She heard Monty called out from the other seat beside her, the rocket shook violently, tousling them around only adding to the agony she was going through. She just wished it would kill her already. Just as her thoughts crossed, her eyes fluttered shut, the pain subsiding as she passed out her screaming finally falling silent. Bellamy didn’t care less about the rattling of the rocket he was calling her name, his voice desperate for her to wake. He wasn’t able to check her pulse seem as it under her suit and if he opened that now the oxygen in her suit would be sucked out. All he could do was hope but she wasn’t breathing and keeping hope when her head was lolling side to side, no sign of life in her, was hard.

“You need to wake up Clarke, you have to show me you’re alive, please,” Bellamy begged as they entered orbit and Raven now swivelled in her seat to check if everyone was ok. “Show me something.” Bellamy’s hand on Clarke’s knee was what was keeping her from hovering in her seat because of the Zero-G, Bellamy knew her belt would press against her already blistered stomach if he released her, so he snapped his head in Raven’s direction urgently. “Hurry, Raven, if she is alive she probably won’t be for much longer.”

Raven understood, undoing her belt and the Zero-G took over and she let out a happy laugh before doing a front spin as Murphy and Monty reached the hatch tugging it open, Echo and Emori watched in amazement, they’d never seen anything like it. Raven kicked through the leg and pushed herself outside, Harper had attached her wire to assure that Raven didn’t end up floating around aimlessly. Bellamy wished Raven well before returning his attention to the unconscious Clarke.

“We didn’t survive this long for you to die on me, Clarke.” Bellamy growled, he was angry that she was dying, angry that Monty got hurt and he had to leave Clarke. He was mad that the nightbood didn’t seem to be working. There were several other reasons for his frustration and each one made him need Clarke more. He couldn’t survive the next five years in space without her, he wouldn’t be able to handle Murphy’s taunting remarks or Monty’s consistent need to work or Echo’s…Echoness. He needed Clarke to keep him centered and if she wasn’t he’d end up spending those five years of his life shut away in his room, until he came back to Earth and reunited with his sister. Before he allowed his emotions to come out.

“She did it!” Monty let out happily, unclipping his belt and pushing into the seat where Raven had sat. He’d got basic training from Raven how to move the rocket into the hatch and he hoped he didn’t do something stupid, they only had a limited amount of fuel, plus their oxygen tanks were flashing red now. It was now or never or they die.

The moment they slotted in the space provided, Bellamy felt the Zero-G vanish, Monty was out first, Murphy following helping with the oxidation machine, they had two minutes of air and Bellamy knew if need be he’d give the remainder of his oxygen to Clarke, without it her body would shut down much faster than the others would. Bellamy was last out seem as he was carrying her bridal style, praying he wasn’t hurting her and made his way out, Harper and Echo waiting ready to take her from him, but he shook his head.

“Come on, we need to get to a vent.” Bellamy instructed, gesturing for them to follow him towards where Monty and the others had darted off. Clarke shifted in his arms and he let out a sigh until he realised she woke because of the pain, his eyes watering as he saw her pain, he wished he could trade places with her, take her pain away. He sat down against a wall beside a vent, he was going to place Clarke next to him but he couldn’t bare it, so he left her sobbing in his arms until Monty signalled it was fine to remove their masks, he pulled Clarke’s off first. Then his own. They both gasped for breath, Clarke curling in his arms as the agonising pain shot through her. “Hey. Hey look at me okay. Look at me.”

Clarke looked at him through tears, trying to push away the pain for a second to give him her attention. Bellamy had a tear stained face, almost as soaked as hers but he cradled her face in his hands, she tried not to wince at the contact.

“You get sick before you get better, right? The pain is temporary, you will not die, ok. You will not die.” Bellamy’s voice was strained, his face close to hers, she wasn’t sure how he could actually see her when she knew her face was covered in blisters and boils. But Bellamy couldn’t care less, this was the girl he’d had no intention in falling for, the girl who stole his heart and took him by surprise. The girl who stood by his side and that wasn’t ending now. Clarke nodded, just for him, she didn’t know if she was going to make it but she knew she had to give him hope, so she managed a smile through her tears and nodded, relaxing when she saw the relief swamp his expression. “Good.”

“Harry Styles” by Harry Styles (Review)

Guess who’s bringing rock n’ roll back to the 2010s? That’s right, ladies. Harry Styles.

After a rocky last few years and worrisome hiatus, Harry Styles has officially begun his much awaited solo project with the release of his self-titled debut album, Harry Styles. The 10-track record, ranging from simple acoustic songs to jaw-dropping ballads, completely blew me out of the water and took me on a journey through the sides of him that I went 6 years without truly understanding.

Going into this, I knew this wasn’t going to be a biased review. Although I was a massive One Direction fan a few years ago, I eventually grew out of them when I found other bands that suited my music taste a little more than what they were producing. I am not afraid to admit that Made In the AM was a not a good album in my opinion, nor was FOUR a home-run for me either. But, that was One Direction. This is Harry Styles, and my respect for him has skyrocketed as his new album exceeded every expectation I had for it.

So, let’s dive into this iconic masterpiece, shall we?

Track 1: Meet Me In The Hallway.

The 10-track album opens up with “Meet Me in The Hallway”, a dreamy and lethargic taste of what’s to come later on in the record. The song starts off with Styles murmuring some numbers under his breath, and then transcends into a funky melody of faded vocals and fingers picking the strings on a finely tuned guitar. If the musical elements of this song weren’t already ambiguous enough, the lyrics only push my curiosity further. The repetitive line “Gotta get better” was mysterious; What could this possibly mean? Was his meaning shallow, or was he really in a dark place throughout the writing process of this record? It made me, the listener, wonder how deep this album could go, or how equivocal it could remain.

Overall, “Meet Me In The Hallway” was the perfect song to open Harry Styles up with, and I will explain why more towards the end of this review.

Song rating: 8/10

Track 2: Sign Of The Times.

Styles’ infamous debut single, “Sign Of The Times”, follows after the album’s whimsical introduction. My initial reaction to this song when it first dropped back in April was nothing but positive: although the first verse of the song was questionable for my taste, I fell in love with the song the second the chorus began. From that moment on, I’ve been a huge fan of it.

“Sign Of The Times”, in my opinion, is a successful attempt at modernizing classic rock. It has certain elements to it that remind me of a lot of artists from the Classic Rock age, and it doesn’t make Styles seem like a “poser” at all. The song altogether - from the lyrics to the melody - is extremely mysterious and I’m sure it generated a lot of excitement to hear the rest of the album beyond just my own curiosity.

Song rating: 8.5/10

Track 3: Carolina.

In Harry Styles’ 3rd track, titled “Carolina”, Styles’ smooth voice tells a cheeky story of a girl from the South who immerses herself into the superficial world of the Los Angeles, California. The chorus of “Carolina” is fun, upbeat, and sexy in the most classy way possible. The constant La la la la’s in the background put a grin on my face every time I listen to the song.

Although I feel like some parts of this track are childish, that is not a negative observation. They’re childish in a way that still works extremely well and keeps the song fun and current.

Song rating: 8.5/10

Track 4:  Two Ghosts.

I must admit that I hit a small bump in the road after “Carolina”. The next two songs on the album, titled “Two Ghosts” and “Sweet Creature”, are probably my least favorite songs on Harry Styles. This may come as a shock for some people, because I’ve gotten the sense that these are some fans’ absolute favorite songs from the whole album. Just hear me out you guys, I promise I have a rational reason.

The thing I dislike about “Two Ghosts” is that it is musically forgettable. Don’t get me wrong, the lyrics are magnificent; They are powerful and poetically heartbreaking. It’s plain to see that Styles was describing a low time in his life, and I respect him for opening up. But the tune of the song, in my opinion, just doesn’t do the words justice. From a musical perspective, “Two Ghosts” wasn’t as unique as the other songs off the album, which causes me to skip it most of the times it comes on.

Song rating: 5.5/10

Track 5: Sweet Creature.

Similarly, “Sweet Creature” has lovely lyrics, but with just a simple guitar and a few backing vocals behind it all, I feel like it is not enough to truly wow me.

Personally, I love when songs have a lot of production in them. I like songs that don’t rely solely on the lyrics to entice people, but use instruments to help create a masterpiece as well. “Sweet Creature”, from a musical standpoint, needs some more instruments to help bring it to life.

But, then again, there are a lot of people who like simple songs like that. So, to turn this bump in the road into a positive pit-stop, at least this album has diversity.

Song rating: 5/10

And then, we are brought to the 6th track on the album, and a huge transition is made. We leave this calm and gentle side of Harry Styles and enter a whole new world of sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll. Literally.

Track 6: Only Angel.

“Only Angel” begins with an almost minute-long introduction consisting of a gods singing and a soft piano and in the distance. The intro sounds as if we’re all being lifted into heaven aboard a bedazzled spaceship with Styles behind the wheel. Everything is calm and euphoric until we are immediately thrown back down into a 1970s rock concert at the 53-second mark, and the song truly begins.

“Only Angel” is a lyrically and musically genius song. ‘I’m just happy getting you stuck in between my teeth’ and ‘She’s gonna be an angel … when it turns out she’s a devil in between the sheets’ are just a few lines that I found to be not only surprising, but clever as well.

Song rating: 9/10

Track 7: Kiwi.

Don’t even get me started on this song. This was the first track I listened to off Harry Styles, and to say I was shocked is an understatement. I was shocked in a good way, of course.

Being one of my favorite songs on the record, “Kiwi” is yet another bold and daring taste of Harry’s rock n’ roll side. The melody of the song is sassy, very sexual, and probably takes a lot of parents back a few decades to what they often refer to as “simpler times”.

The lyrics show that Styles knows what he’s doing. Some phrases that stick out to me are ‘She worked her way through a cheap pack of cigarettes, hard liquor mixed with a bit of intellect’ and ‘It’s New York, baby, always jacked up, Holland Tunnel for a nose, it’s always backed up’. One particular line in the bridge that I think is pure lyrical genius is “She sits beside me like a silhouette. Hard candy dripping on me ‘til my feet are wet”.

Whenever “Kiwi” comes on, there is no way I can get myself to skip it.
In combination with “Only Angel”, these two songs are proof that Harry is not afraid to step out of his comfort zone and say the things he never could when he was in a boyband.

Song rating: 10/10

Track 8: Ever Since New York.

“Ever Since New York”, with it’s charming lyrics and soothing guitar riffs, is a nice cool-down from “Kiwi” and “Only Angel”. I feel like this song is very visual. Something about it will take your mind back to a particular memory or time in your life… or, if you’re me, it’ll take you back to a scene from your favorite movie.

Whenever I listen to this song, for some reason my mind visualizes that scene from Almost Famous where they’re all piled in the tour bus, driving across the country and singing Tiny Dancer together. Everything about that scene is graceful and heartwarming, as is this song, although it is rather sad.

One negative thing I have to point out about “Ever Since New York” is that it get’s pretty repetitive after a while. I feel like the phrase ‘Tell me something I don’t already know’ is used too many times, and Styles could’ve incorporated other lyrics in those spaces. With just a little more variation, this song could’ve been a huge hit.

Song rating: 7/10

Track 9: Woman.

The 9th track on Harry Styles is yet another song that I refuse to skip whenever it comes on. “Woman” is one of the best songs on this record, and I’m sure many Harry Styles fans can agree with me.

The beginning is one of the most unique introductions on Harry Styles. The random man asking about romantic comedies throws you off at first, but then the piano transcends into the enticing guitar riff and you are brought back into reality, as the song truly begins.

The chorus is short, sweet, to the point, and catchy as hell. It makes me wonder how this concept came to Styles’ mind and why he decided to take a plain word and fuze it into the song in such an elementary way. All he’s got to say is ‘woman’ over and over again and poof! It’s a masterpiece.

He took the word ‘woman’ and truly transformed it into a work of art. Because, let’s face it: Women are beautiful, and sometimes all we need is a simple, charming song like this to prove it. As Styles sings about this mysterious woman (or perhaps all women in general) he does it in a way that is sexy and fun, yes, but he doesn’t objectify us. I give him mad kudos for this one.

Song rating: 10/10

Track 10: From The Dining Table.

The final track on Harry Styles is “From The Dining Table”, a soothingly sad song that brings the album to a satisfying close. This song explores the final side of Styles that is a little bit more raw and truthful than the others portrayed on this record. The guitar and edited vocals create a chill, almost Jack Johnson-like sound while the mature lyrics show that he is finally able to grow up after certain expectations prevented him from doing so.

For example, I’m sure the line in the first verse that goes ‘played with myself, where were you?’ came as a shock to some fans, but in an exciting way. The song is simple but powerful, and just as mysterious as the beginning of the album. I feel like this song and “Meet Me In The Hallway” are very similar to each other in a lot of ways, and they both work together to bring the album around into a full circle, with an interesting beginning and successful ending.

Song rating: 8.5/10

Overall, I think this album was amazing and something that the music industry was in need of. I’m sure I’m not the only one who feels that every so often, the radio runs dry and repetitive. Harry Styles, still in its rightful place at the top of the charts, is something new and different, a breath of fresh air for us all after we’ve been drowning in generic pop songs that all sound the same for so long.

I didn’t know what I was expecting Harry Styles’ first solo album to sound like, but it wasn’t what I got. Everything about this record, from the melodies to the lyrics, completely exceeded my expectations and impressed me beyond belief.

I wish there were more than just 10 songs on this album, but perhaps that means that Styles will be back relatively soon with another masterpiece to share with the world. I’ve got mad respect for Harry Styles after hearing this album, and I hope that those who once judged him or ignored his talents because he was in a “boyband” can eventually come around with an open mind, and appreciate what he has been able to do on his own.

Overall Album Rating: 8.7/10

Your Internet Persona (Midheaven Signs)

Aries: social media is the ultimate way for them to express themselves and their opinions. They tend to make everything about themselves, thinking everyone cares about what they have to say and share. Will pick up fights about their fandom or opinions frequently. The internet is probably the place that makes them most outgoing and confident.

Taurus: laughs about old memes long after they’re out of trend, because they’re too slow to keep up with the extremely quick and short-lived trends of social media. They just want to lean back and enjoy some good old planking videos, for gods sake. Theyre really practical about social media, they dont have the need to brag a lot or to pretend to be cool, they just want to enjoy themselves.

Gemini: over-sharing, lots of liking and commenting and tagging. They hate feeling like they miss something, they want to seem super informed and up-to-date with the cool kid trends. What are the neweste memes? Do people still say groovy and funky?? Ask a gemini midheaven. Theyre the coolest people on the internet.

Cancer: their social media consists of whining about first world problems and song lyrics or quotes that allude to something and them expecting others to know what they mean. Its almost as if their social media accounts are they angsyt teenage diaries for their thoughts and feelings to be expressed.

Leo: social media is the ultimate stage for a leo midheaven, they share lots of selfies and personal info nobody asked for and they’re unnecessarily artsy. Harry Styles has a leo midheaven and his instagram account is a black and white picture gallery of his ~artsy~ lifestyle… and his twitter bio says “raconteur” (which is a sort of storyteller) and his profile picture is of himholding up a camera. Come on, Harry!! Social media is not artwork, stop taking it so seriously!

Virgo: afraid of showing flaws! Perfectionists. They’d rather share too little than regret sharing something, usually quite private as well. Virgo midheavens never want to have anything embarrasing about them online so they think twice before posting something.

Libra: put lots of effort into appearing super cute and super pretty online, and then act all humble “im not that special, this picture is nothing, really, i just took it randomly… actually i didnt notice the camera going of??”. They will be the nicest most sweet people trying not to get into any fights, being super politically correct, because they dont want to offend anyone or be “problematic” (strange new term).

Scorpio: hates giving out personal information, likes using profile pictures that is not them. But if they do post something, you can be sure it’s super deep or a link to a weird documentary. They keep it real, post something that has meaning, cut the bullshit. The internet is not a stage for their ego, its a stage for what they stand for.

Sagittarius: passionately posts about things nobody else cares about, makes a big deal about everything and blows everything out of proportion!!!!! lots of exclamation marks!!! lots of “omg”. They will act as if everything is so sensational, inspirational and motivational. Everything is “hilarious” even though theyre actually staring at the screen with a blank face.

Capricorn: wants to appear professional, their tumblr is a portfolio, their twitter is actual life updates, facebook is a résumé. They will probably actually use the right grammar and spelling on their social media?? weird. Portraying themselves like that on the internet is their source of respect, their way to find a place where they are taken seriously.

Aquarius: social justice fighters online, even if they don’t care as much IRL, pretend to dislike things because they’re too mainstream, online hipsters. They will hop on any brand new band wagon but jump right off when it gets too crowded. They take lots of pride in being the first one to share a youtube video that later goes viral.

Pisces: mostly communicates through emojis, the rest is telepathy. Very vague posts, highly edited pictures. What they portray online is hazy & blurry and doesn’t really say anything about what the person is like or looks like. They might just not have social media at all. Celebrity example #1 for this is Cher, her tweets are sensational but they usually dont make sense

A/N: Thank you @narryschonceaf for being my ever for lovely beta. Love you bestie. Could never thank you enough.

Controlling the tears that was threatening to spill down your cheeks. Your took deep breathes. Deep breath in like smelling the flowers, and deep breath out like blowing a candle. In and out. In and out.

12:21 am

Your drive from the hospital was quick, no cars were in sight. The darkness thick like fog as it swallows the dimly lit streets. After your exhausting day, this is what you needed. Silence, with a hint of some classics playing in the background on your car’s stereo. You relaxed in your seat letting your shoulders to slouch, breathing in the scent of your car’s air freshener and whiff of pine trees.

pajama-zam  asked:

Whats going on with Miles and Kerry if you dont mind me asking

  1. They are, in recent world of remnants, contradicting prior world building (like why are so many Greek coded characters from an incredibly stereotypical Asian area? Why do we have a Chinese coded character from a vaguely African coded area? And there would be one thing if there had been prior indication that it was like that but before this point everyone from these cultures that we had actual nationalities for was consistent in cultural aesthetic and appearance and now the characters don’t even look like they’re from those areas. Please see Pyrrha Nikos looking decidely not Asian. Sun looking decidedly not African. And don’t forget Blake being coded as a very western civilization street kid, but now she’s Menagerian royalty? It just doesn’t make a lot of sense)
  2. They’re kind of obnoxious
  3. They refuse to answer actual critical questions a fan asked in a panel, so far as letting another audience member curse said fan out.
  4. The writing is derivative and just leaves a LOT to be desired.
  5. We were told that we’d get a canon LGBT character and that we’ve already met said character but there has yet to be a single hint as to who it is or what they are. On top of that every reason they have given for why they can’t introduce them yet doesn’t make sense because we have already had several hetero couples introduced doing the same thing that M&K have said as their reasons for not introducing said character. (Not important to the plot? What about Weiss and Neptune, what plot role did they play other than angst for Jaune? Can’t just come out and shove two characters together? Sun and Blake were all but confirmed the moment he was introduce. There’s been no good moment for a romantic subplot? Then what the hell was the entire school dance arc? Don’t want to introduce someone just to be a love interest? Neptune.) Not to mention they had the perfect moment to have Neptune as a LGBT character but instead they turned away from that and had an obnoxious joke about him being unable to dance. There was literally every sign leading to Neptune being gay, including him being hesitant to admit why he didn’t go to the dance with Weiss and it was honestly incredibly heart breaking when that wasn’t the reason. LGBT community is starved for good representation and M&K are toying with that.
  6. They don’t know how to center the show around Ruby. She has had more screen time than Jaune and yet the reason everyone pegs Jaune as the actual protagonist (and complains about it because it’s  honestly upsetting) is because they know how to write Jaune as a main character, they have no idea how to use Ruby and the show suffers incredibly for it. Jaune is a good character, but because of their poor writing with Ruby people honestly hate him, and I understand why because I did too before I realized why. We were promised a story driven by four kick ass ladies and instead got a story that, thus far, has been driven almost entirely by another Aryan nation looking dude with a sword and angst over a lost lover.
  7. Which brings me to the fight with Pyrrha’s death. Pyrrha should NOT have lost that fight. Pyrrha is literally the most OP character that RWBY has shown us (that we’ve seen fighting). She has control over polarity. She was surrounded by metal. Giant metal gears. Cinder was obviously stunned when she got hit with one. Pyrrha is an incredibly smart and talented fighter who has been in fights before. She should have been able to stun lock Cinder and whack her with the gear until her aura was depleted enough to grind her with said gear like a fucking ant. Pyrrha should NOT have lost that fight and it literally makes to sense to have her do so other than “plot demands it” and that is a lazy and terrible reason.
  8. Roman’s death. They have said so themselves that they killed him because he got more popular than they had original planned and he was never meant to be as important as he ended up being…ok? So why kill him? You now have a character which people love. You know how hard it is to write a good villian that people love? And you had one fall into your lap? You don’t kill them off! You capitalize! Ok. Maybe I could understand killing him off if he is now a threat to the established plot. But don’t do it as a shock factor joke. This is a character fans loved. You don’t off him for a joke.
  9. Penny’s death. I can justify Penny’s death. I honestly can. It was plot relevant it made sense. Ok. But then they gave the “word of god” that she wasn’t going to be rebuilt and brought back which makes no sense. She is a robot. Her memory banks are intact. I don’t care if she got attacked with a magnetic blast, if her father was any decent engineer her memory banks would be protected against such things. But, I guess M&K don’t understand how computers work and that there are protections against magnets. I guess they don’t realize google is a thing and they can literally do research while they’re writing. Let’s not forget the fact, she is made out of metal and would form a natural Faraday Cage against such attacks.
  10. The silver eye bullshit. I don’t have as big of an issue with the Maidens, like I’ll leave those be cause it’s honestly a writing move I would have made. But. The Silver Eye Warriors was some bull shit. Every hint they gave us was pointing to Ruby being the Summer maiden. It was obvious. And not in the red herring type way but in the “this is where we want to be leading our fans” type way. And then they come out of, almost, literally fuck off no where with the Silver Eye thing and it just didn’t fit.
  11. Jaune’s weapons literally give him an OP fighting style (People, based solely on weapon choice who have no hope of beating Jaune: Weiss, Cinder, Yang, Mercury, Black, Sun, Neptune, Emerald, Ren, Fox, Russel, and so on and so on) There’s a reason sword and board was great up until the invention of fire arms (which aren’t even that relevant in RWBY due to aura. Not only that, but all the ones in RWBY we’ve seen have been incredibly low power including the “high impact” sniper rifle). Please nerf. Pyrrha, as I have said, has an ENTIRELY OP fighting style. Ruby, is said to have the most dangerous weapon designed, and it ain’t even that dangerous. The most dangerous part of it is it’s a gun and we’ve seen people get shot and walk away thanks to auras. None of this has been explored, or touched on, or even explained. Jaune frequently gets his ass kicked despite the fact that he should be tanking.
  12. Ruby’s obnoxiousness in RWBY V4 E1. That entire scene with Jaune’s shirt just came off as obnoxious and gross. Why would she laugh at her friend for liking a brand of cereal or sending in box tops? Like that doesn’t seem like something she would laugh at, it seems like something she would do. Not to mention it’s a brand of cereal that has emotional context now because of who’s face must have been plastered on every single fucking box. Especially once Jaune seemed to obviously be upset at her doing so she kept teasing him and laughing. It was a terrible scene and not at all like what we have seen of Ruby thus far.
  13. They have literally no idea how to use character development at all whatsoever. We see that with Jaune, Ruby, Tucker (RvB. We should have had a lot more character development for him in the Chorus arc but we didn’t and it was gross.), Pyrrha (who had no character beyond being a good fighter and being in love with Jaune. At all. There was literally no other point to her character.), and lets not even bring up Black, Nora, and Ren having no character development from this season and Nora STILL doesn’t have any.
  14. Jaune’s “WE HIT IT HARDER” and then proceeding to not even hitting it harder and the plan he came up with having nothing to do with hitting it harder. And he’s allegedly the tactics guy? It becomes quite clear that someone on the writing team (M&K) does not understand tactics.
  15. Jaune was gaining agency as a leader, becoming more serious and a better fighter. And then we get to season 3 and he back slide so fucking hard and is suddenly no good in a fight? Alright. That sounds like terrible writing. But alright.
  16. Team SSSN are useless other than maybe Sun. And what we know of them could fill a thimble and it won’t even fully fill said thimble.
  17. Remember that time Neptune ran to the other side of the enemy team and everyone yelled at him? That was actually efficient tactics. Because it put team NDGO in a bad situation because Neptune can now fire on them forcing them to priorities between going after him or going after the rest of team SSSN.
  18. Can we also talk about the absurdity of Neptune only having a fear of water because his VA can’t swim. When literally he is named off of, and takes literary influence from, the god of the fucking ocean?
  19. Also the fact that Miles Luna has a self insert in every single show he’s ever written for and his only real talent is as a VA.
  20. All in all they have ruined a show I was incredibly excited for when it first came out and was incredibly invested in up until season 3 where it went down hill. There’s probably more but this is all I could think of on such short notice.

I’d complain more about RvB but it’s in not so recent memory so I can’t effectively do it.

“Tears fall like autumn leaves,

Sinking into the fertile ground.

How can I complain, when I am

Helping somebody?”

Another day, another poem. They always appeared on Mark’s arm near midday, when he was having lunch. He never noticed them, at first, because he was always too busy playing basketball with his friends. Now, even when he was dribbling the basketball towards the net, he always looked at his forearm in time for the familiar cursive to seep into his skin.

They were beautiful. They never had a set theme or style, they were all different. The only thing that was consistent was that the poet would sign all of their poems with a tiny heart, neat and small. Occasionally, Mark would write back - tiny words of encouragement that he was sure you had seen, but you never made any attempt to talk back to him. For now, the only thing he knew about you was your handwriting.

It was a Monday morning, Mark’s least favorite day of the week. It meant recovering from a long weekend full of late nights with his friends and hurrying to do homework due the next day.

He overslept and missed his first class, which gave him detention and put him in an even worse mood than usual, though his friends were informing him of the new girl who had moved into the seat beside him. Mark was forced to sit at the front, mainly because somebody (Donghyuck) decided it would be funny to make stupid noises and then blame them on Mark. Some friends he had. He wasn’t sure if he was pleased or irritated with the fact that he now had a table mate - what if she was completely horrible? He was glad he didn’t have another English class until the next day.

“I don’t know why you’re so worried,” Ten, an upperclassmen who was shorter than Mark and acted like a 10 year old half the time wonders. The boys were on their way to the cafeteria, planning to meet the rest of their friends inside. “From what I heard, she’s really cute - and quiet.”

“I don’t think Hwasa will be happy with you calling another girl cute,” Mark teases, laughing as he sees his friend roll his eyes. “Besides, I don’t care if she’s cute. She’s not her.”

Ten huffs, pushing open the red doors to the cafeteria. “You do realize that dating before you find your soulmate is normal, right?” Mark knows it’s normal, but it feels wrong. Why would he want anyone that wasn’t you?

After collecting his food, he slips into his seat next to Jaehyun, who regards him with a mouth full of kimchi stew. “I hear you’re scared of your desk mate?” He asks curiously, reaching over to Doyoung’s tray and managing to steal a piece of meat from the watchful boy. Mark glares past Jaehyun to Donghyuck, who he knows is spreading the stupid rumor of him being afraid of his desk mate.

“I’m not scared of my desk mate,” he announces loudly to the table, skillfully placing a load of rice into his mouth. “In fact, point her out to me right now. I’ll go say hi-”

Donghyuk grins mischievously, “She’s not here, Markie! Not your day, eh?” Mark deflates instantly. Of course. The one time he’s built up enough confidence to confront you and you’re not here. Where are you?

It seems as if Donghyuck knows what he’s thinking, because he shrugs. “I heard she went up to the rooftop. You gonna go say hi?” His earlier proclamation makes him wince, taking a quick glance at his tray.

“If I go say hi, I won’t have enough time to eat,” Mark sighs, though from the knowing looks on his friend’s faces, they know exactly why he won’t go and say hi.

“Why are you so set on not dating anyone until you find your soulmate?” Johnny asks, leaning forward to question the younger boy. Mark scoffs nervously, shaking his head quickly. “She could be dating someone right now, you know.”

The thought of you dating someone has Mark biting his lip to distract himself from the pang in his chest. Even the tiniest thought of you dating someone else, kissing someone else, loving someone else, has him pouting.

And it must’ve shown on his face, too, because his friends don’t bother teasing him about it for the rest of lunch. That day, there’s no poem - and he feels more worried than he should be over a person who he’s never met.

The next morning, Mark has English first. He’s not sure if his body unconsciously doesn’t want him to attend class, or if he’s just tired, because he wakes up late again, getting grounded by his mom for the next week because of his tardiness - and she was being soft. Then, he gets another few days of detention for being late again. At this point, he’s irritated and tired and he really couldn’t care less about some new girl.

He enters the classroom just as the teacher begins to play a movie, some old one that they were supposed to be studying for the next few weeks. The teacher glares at him, as usual, and Donghyuck and a few of his other friends snicker at him from the back of the room. But he’s not focused on them. As much as he hated to admit it, he was focused on you.

He didn’t even know your name, not yet, at least, but he couldn’t help the light blush spreading across his cheeks as he makes his way through the room to your shared table, tucked in the corner of the room. He was thankful to not be stuck smack dab in the middle of the room - Donghyuck could see him too easily, and he’d never live this town.

He slips into his seat quietly, trying not to disturb anyone. You’re focused on the movie, notebook out and ready to take notes on the film. He takes out his own books, trying not to steal glances at you, and it’s only when he opens the notebook does he notice that he hasn’t taken anything down in the film. As much as he hates the subject, he needs to pass.

“Hey,” he whispers urgently, turning his head slightly so that the teacher can’t see him talking. “Hey - uh, can I see your notes?”

You seem startled that he’s talking to you, and you raise your eyebrows in confusion. “Hm? Oh, here you go.” Your voice is quiet, and soft, and Mark finds himself trying not to gulp nervously as he accidentally meets your beautiful eyes. He smiles thankfully instead, pulling out a pen so that he can copy down the lines upon lines of neat handwriting.

It’s only when he starts to rewrite the first line that he freezes. The looped ‘l’s, the curved ‘u’s, the tiny dash that was way too high above the ‘i’. Eyes wide, he turns the page, looking for more evidence, when he spots a short stanza that has him biting his lip nervously - and what did it end in? A tiny, miniscule heart. You write poetry, and end them with hearts, and have the exact same handwriting?

Mark suddenly thinks it will be harder to survive this whole class beside you.

Meet me on the rooftop at lunch. The familiar handwriting has you cocking your head in confusion, heart beat irregular and eyebrows furrowed. Your… your soulmate is in this school? And knows who you are?

It makes you feel guilty for the way your heart sped up around the boy who sat next to you in English, but you’re sure it’s nothing compared to what you’ll feel with your soulmate.

Nerves settle in your stomach for the next few classes, and you find yourself unable to concentrate on anything, not even the most simple of maths problems or the easiest of biology questions. Tapping your fingers on your desk, your eyes settle on the clock above the teacher’s head. 5… 4… 3… 2… 1…

And you’re the first one out, not even giving time to the teacher to say ‘the bell doesn’t dismiss you, I do’, frantically jogging towards your locker. You don’t notice how your hands are shaking as you push your books and notebooks into your locker. Taking a deep breath, you screw your eyes shut. You’re about to meet your soulmate. You’re about to meet your soulmate.

You don’t know if you’re walking too slow or too fast, but it seems as if time has slowed as you push open the doors to the rooftop. It’s raining outside, but there’s shelter near the door, and you’re not surprised to see a figure standing underneath it. A closer look at the figure’s face makes your eyes widen in surprise.

“M-Mark?” You echo in surprise, slowly approaching him uncertainly. The boy in question smiles nervously, biting his lip as he turns fully to you.

“I… I see you got my message…?”

“_____ . ______ _____ .”

“_____,” he repeats, letting the vowels and consonants flow over his tongue. It’s silent for a second after, the only sound being the calming sound of pattering surrounding you, before his eyes widen, “Oh! I - I brought this… just - just to be sure…”

He holds up a black marker and you bite your lip. You’re sure it’s him, you want it to be him, and yet, there’s a tiny irrational place in your brain telling you that this isn’t him, that it’s too good to be true. You hold your breath as you see him pull up his sleeve, uncapping the marker and gingerly drawing a tiny heart on his forearm. Rolling up your own sleeve, you wait with bated breath for the familiar sight of flowing ink…

And there it is, the black of the marker appearing in a swirl on your skin, forming a tiny heart. What were you expecting, honestly? Mark lets out a relieved laugh from in front of you, almost disbelieving himself. You look up at him with happy eyes, flickering back and forth from his arm to yours and to his eyes. It seems the situation becomes too much for him, because in the next second, he’s lunging forward, wrapping his hands around your waist and pulling you close to him, connecting your lips in one swift motion.

If it had been anybody else, you would’ve pulled away - but this was Mark. You react immediately, winding your arms around his neck and running a hand through his dyed hair. His lips are soft and cold from the weather surrounding you, but his arms are warm and so is his embrace. You feel your cheeks heat up from the sheer passion hidden in the kiss, only pulling away when your breath became scarce.

“I’m so glad,” he whispers, leaning his forehead against yours and screwing his eyes shut, making sure to keep you as close as possible to him. “I’m so glad that I’ve finally found you…”

“Likewise,” you find yourself murmuring gently against his lips, a smile blooming on your face as his eyes light up happily. Finally, you think contently, not caring one bit that you’ve probably missed lunch and the first few minutes of class, and definitely not caring about the chilliness outside - you only care for your soulmate, wrapped up in his arms, the warmest and most enjoyable place on earth.
