Vengeance // part II
Peter and I lay naked in the tub, the suds of the warm water wrapped around our bodies. I lean against Peter between his legs and felt his soft lips on my neck.
“I missed you,” I sigh contently and lean further into him. “I’ve missed you too, Peter-”
“Say that again.” I arched my brow and turn towards him, “say what again?” I asked feeling his arms tighten slighting around my naked waist.
“My name, say it again. I’ve missed the way you say it.” Peter answered, he kissed my wet hair and nuzzled himself into it.
“Peter,” I said but this time in a sultry whisper, Peter shivering against me.
“You’re absolutely ruining me Ms. Stark,” Peter said before kissing the shell of my ear. I turn myself, the water jostling slightly, and straddled Peter when I heard a knock.
“Hey Samara, it’s daddyo, um when you’re done with whatever you’re doing we can watch a movie, if you want.”
I heard my dad say behind my bedroom door, feet away from the open door to the bathroom. I sigh and lean my forehead against Peter’s shoulder, “Sure dad, give me 10 minutes.”
“Great! Um-I’ll be in the den on the 9th floor.” I heard my dad say before I hear his footsteps, both me and Peter listen as Tony’s steps disappear.
“There goes us having sex,” I said sitting up on Peter’s lap, his cheeks redden.
“We should wrap this up, I can’t have your dad finding out I’m here. He’ll kill me,” Peter said I lazily place kisses on his face.
“We’ve got 10 minutes, we can accomplish a lot in 10 minutes.” I said with a suggestive look. I rock my hips gently against him as he let’s out a shaky sigh.
“We’ll get caught.” He said more to himself then I.
“Just surrender yourself Peter, you know you want to…”
I see the idea roll around his mind behind his doe eyes, “Take me, I dare you, Peter.” I challenged him running my wet fingers through his damp chocolate hair.
“You dare me? Fine, but don’t say that I didn’t warn you.”
I smiled in triumph, I was about to open my mouth but Peter attacked my lips, his hands traveling down my waist to my bottom, bringing me closer to his awaiting body.
~10 minutes later~
We spent most of the ten minutes rocking hard against each other bodies, I miss the way he feels against me. I didn’t realized I how starved I was of his body until I reached my peak of ecstasy. Peter and I were panting slightly as we dressed ourselves.
I was wearing one of Peter’s old puny math equation shirt, with white cotton shorts, and Peter has on a pair of light grey sweat bottoms. He was looking for one of his shirts he left in my dresser that he has never got back.
“How am I going to sneak past your dad?” Peter asked, forgetting to keep looking for a shirt. Not like I minded.
I thought for a moment, when an idea lit brightly in my head.
“My dad put this in my closet after you gave back to him, and this is a good time as any for you to get back into things, whatcha say Spiderman?”
As I said that i walked over to my walk-in closet and grabbed a dark grey box next to my shoes. I walked over to Peter and gently reached out the box to him.
He looked at me, then the box. “Spiderman died the moment you did, Sam…I can’t, I-I’m not worthy-”
“You are worthy, Peter. I’m here and I’m real, what we just did was real. You can’t let what happen take over what you are truly meant to do, you are Spiderman, you are my Spiderman. My hope, my happiness, my everything. If you give that up, then what did I die for? Nothing? Because it’s starting to feel like that.”
“Sam don’t say that. It’ll break me if I let down the people again,” Peter whispered stepping closer but still not taking the box.
“You’ll be letting them down if you don’t,” I whisper, finalizing the conversation, pushing the box into his chest. He slowly takes his hands and places them on the box, he then put it on the bed. He turned to me like I was all of a sudden going to change my mind, but I’m not changing my mind, ever.
He lets out a shaky breath as he lifts the lid.
Inside the box was his uniform, the red and blue rich with color. He grabs his mask and makes eye contact with the white eyes of the mask. His eyes look like he’s at war with himself.
I take a breath when he gently places the mask on the bed, as he then grabs the suit and holds the thin material in his calloused hands. Then he looks at me expectantly, I suddenly realize what he wanted.
“You’re kidding, I’ve seen you naked so many times,” I said with a laugh.
“I won’t wear it if you don’t turn around.” He said, tauntingly wiggling his eyebrows. I rolled my eyes and turned around, “Better?”
“Better.” Peter stated, I rolled my eyes, he can be so annoying. He’s lucky I love him.
I hear him drop his sweat pants, and bit my lip, I really wanted to turn around.
Then I heard him struggle getting himself into the suit, “This is a little tighter than I remember.” Peter said as he shimmied his way into the suit. I laugh quietly into my hand as I heard him struggle.
After a few seconds I felt Peter tap my shoulder, at that I turn around and smiled widely.
My hero stood before me, just as awkward and handsome as ever.
He had his mask in one of his tightly fisted hands. He kept looking at me and then back to the mask.
“Whatcha think?” Peter asked, looking at me then biting his lip.
“Just as dashing as I remembered,” I said with a grin. He gave me a blushing smile in return.
He was about to open his mouth when we were interrupted by a small knock at my bedroom door.
“Sam? You okay? Are we still on for the movie?” Tony asked with a soft voice.
“Yes dad I’ll be out soon,” I said, ushering Peter to one of my big windows holding one finger to my mouth, signaling Peter to be as quiet as possible.
“Okay hurry, Pepper made you some popcorn with extra butter, your favorite!” Tony said. Peter and I waited until we heard his footsteps slowly walking away, signaling Tony’s leave.
We both let out a soft sigh of relief, and then started to laugh quietly, “We’re such teenagers, I love it.” I said once we regained enough composer to speak. Peter smiled and touched my hair gently,
“I’ll see you tomorrow? I’ll come by after school?” Peter asked.
“Of course, you’re the highlight of my day.” I said. I watched Peter as he still held a strand of my strawberry blonde hair in his gloved hands. He looked at the now open window, letting out a weary sigh.
“I guess this is where I leave you. I love you my Strawberry Shortcake.” Peter said with a smile and dropped the strand of hair that he was holding, bringing me into a comical kiss, I let out a short laugh at the horrible nickname. Once he pulled away he pulled his mask over his face. I smiled proudly at my boyfriend.
“I love you too Parker, now go get em’ tiger.”
After that Peter shot a web on a nearby lamppost, he gave me one last look before swinging out of my room. I watched him swing down the streets 0f New York returning to Queens, knowing he’d stop if he was needed. If the people need him he’ll be there.
I sighed and closed my window, I briefly look out at the starry night not seeing Peter anymore, than I walked out of my room and joined Tony and Pepper in the den.
We watched Total Recall, Pepper and Tony were curled up together on the large couch and I at Pepper’s legs as she french braided ur now same colored hair.
“You guys can pass as mother and daughter now that you both look so similar.”
I think of my real mom Rose and my heart felt heavy, “We might have the same hair and freckles but you have to admit she’s a spitting image of Rose.” Pepper said sensing my sadness at the mention of my deceased mother which I’m glad for.
We didn’t talk much after that, we immersed ourselves into the film before us. As we watched the screen flash with gunshots and violence I felt a slight pressure in the front of my head. I paid no mind to it at first, until it kept on going to the point where my vision blurred and the pain became almost unbearable.
It was when I was breathing hard that my dad and Pepper realized something was askew.
“Samara are you okay?” My dad asked panicked after pausing the movie, my only response was to yell in agony.
Pepper was right behind my father as he had me in his arms, my vision fading in and out.
“Hang in there kid I got-”
Before I could feel him place me on the metal examining table of the lab, my vision faded to black.
A man and a women were hovering over a girl with hair so bright, that it made the sun jealous. Her eyes were shut and her skin was as cold as ice, a shimmer glossing over her body.
“Operation Restore,” The woman said with a thick romanian accent. She had given ordered to a man who was hunched over the small girl’s body, three puncture wounds evident in the middle of the still girl’s chest.
“Yes ma’am, commencing Operation Restore.”
The man, following orders, shot a green liquid filled syringe into the young girl’s neck, then proceed to take the enhanced efi pulaters.
He started to rub the pedals aggressively, “Let’s not have her turn out like her mother.”
Tony had to use the efi pulaters three times before his daughter’s heart beat came back. Yet she was still unconscious, and her breathing was faint and irregular. He placed a oxygen mask over her nose and mouth that was attached to a large oxygen tank.
Both Tony and Pepper nervously stood by her bedside. “She’ll pull through, she’s tough,” Pepper said placing her hand on Tony’s shoulder…
*3rd person next day at Midtown Science High School*
Peter Parker seems to have a extra hop in his step, which surprised everyone.
The brooding Peter Parker smiling? No it couldn’t be.
But it is and for reasons you wouldn’t believe.
The day went on and people were still looking at Peter like he has grown another head. At lunch instead of sitting by himself at a lunch table or the computer lab, he instead is sitting with his best friend that he hasn’t talked to since the passing of his girlfriend.
“Hey Ned,” Peter said with a dorky wave before walking over to Ned’s lunch table. Ned looked up at Peter beside himself, his best friend hasn’t talked to him in months. He knew that he was going through a really tough time, especially since the death of his girlfriend.
“Hey Peter?” Ned asked unsure as Peter sat himself down and started chowing down on his fries that he got from the lunch line.
After a solid minute of silence and Peter eating, the dork noticed that he was being stared at.
“What? Is something on my face?” Peter asked wiping the back of his sleeve on his face.
“No, I’m just surprised that you, you know…” Ned trailed off in hopes that Peter catches his drift.
“Finally act like me again? Yeah I know, I just needed time. I mean, I’m still not…but I’m getting there, “ Peter said when he understood what Ned was talking about. Though Peter knows that Sam is alive he still has that burn in his chest, but it does not hurt as much as it used to when he thought Sam was dead. He still has a low hum of panic that all of this was some dream, and he would wake up any moment now and realize that Sam was still dead.
Ned smiled and patted his best friends back, he’ll take what he can get. As long his best friend is back in his life again.
After school Peter hung out with Ned for a bit in one of the computer labs. Though he wanted to see Sam, Ned needs to see Peter as well, he missed Ned too.
After an hour or two, the two geeks said their farewells and Peter skateboarded all the way to the Avenger building. A smile was plastered on his face the entire trip towards the building.
Once he arrived on the floor where his girl was, he noticed something was off.
His Spidey senses began tingling.
“Sam? Mr. Stark? Ms. Potts?” Peter let out a small yell to project is voice. He pulled out his earphones when Pepper came into the room with an awkward face.
“Hey Ms. P, is Sam around or in her room?” Peter asked, dropping his backpack and skateboard by the elevator doors. Walking past Pepper, he looking left and right checking if Sam was going to barrel into him and attack him with a hug.
“She’s in the medical bay…”
Deadly silence hung in the air.
“What do you mean?” Peter asked as his fists clenching and unclenching to try and keep himself as calm as possible.
“She had an accident, but she’s fine now and breathing again-”
“Breathing again?!” Peter rhetorically asked before running out the door that lead to the stairs, the elevator was too slow for him.
“Young love.” Pepper said exasperate, leaning on the kitchen counter with a full glass of chardonnay.
Peter reached the medical bay in record speed and busted through the door.
“Is she okay?” Peter asked, slightly out of breath. He saw Tony leaning against a table with his reading glasses on, scanning medical charts. When Peter’s doe eyes casted over to Samara’s sleeping form, he double timed it to her bedside.
“She okay now kid, I’m trying to find out what exactly happened.” Tony said looking up briefly at the Peter who clung to Samara’s side.
The girl looked like she had fallen asleep with her thick hair fanning the pillow and her breathing at a steady rhythm.
“When do you think she’ll wake-”
Samara shot out up into a sitting position. Her breathing labor, she was looking around the room forgetting where she was for a second.
Tony ran over to her side, “You’re okay Sam, Spiderling and I are here.”
She looked over at Peter and immediately calmed down, feeling his hand in hers she gripped it tightly.
“What happened Strawberry Shortcake?” Peter said pecking her cheek.
She took a deep breath, “I-I remember Peter… I remember everything.”
Arrow 5x23: Forgiveness, Redemption, and the Ties That Bind
So, I don’t know about you guys, but I thought tonight’s season
finale of Arrow was pretty spectacular. While the general plot of the episode
was somewhat predictable, the themes running through it and the assorted
character moments were wonderful. But it was the episode’s function as both a
season finale and the closing of a 5 year arc where it truly and fantastically
episode brought many, many things full circle and connected threads that have
been present throughout the season and throughout much of the series. Had the
episode not ended on such a cliffhanger, it would have worked as a series
finale too. (Though I’m so glad we have more time to spend with our favorite
I had to simplify 5x23 into a core group of themes, it would be:
love of a parent for their child.
with great kudos to Arrow’s writers and producers, I found that these themes
and the plot lines they were highlighted by simultaneously closed out the
journey so far and laid the ground work for Arrow’s journey moving forward.
my opinion, so many of the things that happened in 5x23 were necessary, not
only to close out that 5 year arc, but more importantly to launch Arrow into a
I list of seriously under-rated animated movies that Tumblr needs to scream about as much as The Big Four but don’t for some reason:
Reason: It had an openly gay charector. And did not make him into a stereotype, they made him the complete opposite of a “gay stereotype”.They also taught very important lessons about not sinking down to other peoples’ levels, how scarey it can be to be different, why adults have such a big problem with people who are different, ghosts, witches, zombies, the antagonist is literally the ghost of a little girl who was KILLED FOR BEING A WITCH IN SALEM TIMES AND ALL SHE WANTED WAS A FREINDTumblr you scream about these themes in movies you want and here they are
Reason: Johnny Depp plays a pet chameleon who is terribly lonely and doesn’t know who he is as a person who ends up stuck in a desert pretending to be a sheriff battling a sharp-shooter snake, that should be reason enough, but it includes Beans, who has a type of panic disorder (yes she’s a lizard and alot of lizards do but the way they made a big deal of it sort of made me think of it more in this term) and the entire story is really centered on finding yourself and that’s precious, plus Johnny Depp plays a lonely lizard do I really need to say anything else?
Reason: Well to begin with Scrat is the living embodiment of someone from Tumblr, as is Sid, it has Dodo Birds who have a fighting style called “Tai Kwan Dodo”, the first movie is about a mammoth, a sloth, and a Sabertooth Tiger taking care of a human baby, it also deals with alot of dark points like the food chain, betrayal, family genocide, neglect/abandonment on Sid’s part, the death of a mother trying to save her baby (well let’s be honest most animated movies have that for some reason) and these themes tend to persist (although not as heavily) in the other three films, paticuarly, the theme of loneliness and forming your own family out of odds and ends because your blood family isn’t healthy (abusive like Deigo’s, neglectfull like Sid’s, dead like Manny’s oops) Deigo is the king of sarcasm and is somehow charming, let’s be honest Ice Age is gold
Reason: Shrek DOES appear on Tumblr more than anything else but mostly as a joke and I don’t understand that because Shrek has all the themes Tumblr cries about wanting in movies/kids movies, non-traditional princesses, non-traditional female leads, non-traditional romances, a princess not conforming to beauty standards and a male-lead her loves her not “despite that” but FOR that, he doesn’t “accept her”, he LOVES her, Shrek himself is the definition of a charector Tumblr should love, anti-social, sarcastic, awkward, passionate about food, and Donkey, the sarcasm machine who had hybrid babies with a dragon (again laughing in the face of traditional gender roles y the way) a cross-dressing wolf, a prince who’s actually a selfish mama’s boy, Puss In Boots- and if you don’t love him I just want to know, WHY?- who has his own spinoff movie with another BAMF, non-traditional female-lead who, instead of having to be a loyal princess, is more of a “I love you but let’s not make a big deal of it so I’ll come around when I come around” bandit in her own right, and although I honestly think the hay-day was the first two movies, the latest one DOES have Fiona as the leader of a rebellion war group…
Reason: Besides the explosive humor and adorable animals, it has an amazing female lead, the male lead isn’t just some pretty-boy love interest, he’s actually USEFULL, but I think what I love the most is actually the father role, because he isn’t presented as a clueless push-over, nor a stereotypical “No daughter of mine will __!” type, he actually represents a very accurate portrayal of the difficult to walk line between “I need to protect my family” and “I need to loosen up and let my kids make their own decisions”, he doesn’t do anything out of the “power of being a man” or just wanting his family to do what he says because he’s the leader, he very genuienly is afraid of losing his family because as the days pass the population IS getting thinner and thinner, and like most people, especially most parents, he doesn’t know how to handle that fear without going overboard, it also represents the fear of change without making that in it’s self a joke
The Secret World Of Arrietty
Reason: No animated movie list would be complete without a Ghibli film, but I’m really surprised that Arrietty doesn’t get the same love on Tumblr that Holw’s Moving Castle, Kiki’s Delivery Service, Ponyo, Spirited Away, and other Ghibli films get, it was almost swept under the rug, besides having a common thread on this list with the female lead being strong and independant and having a great family dynamic, I’m mostly impressed with the male lead, who doesn’t take the typical role of a male protagonist by using strength to overcome his obstacles as much as he uses cleverness, Sho (Shawn in the English dub) has a very strong since of compassion and moral values that isn’t usually there in the beginning of the movie for male protagonists, it’s usually a learned trait, but he’s very understanding to start with of Arrietty’s compromising position and only wants a freind, he also has a heart condition that plays a part in his loneliness in the movie, Arrietty, like many Ghibli movies, also ends with the leads remaining only close freinds and not love interests, as well as with going their own ways but hoping to see eachother again, they do so in a way that leaves the ending still sweet, rather than the usual bitter-sweet feel of these sorts of things, not to mention the breath-taking animation is enough to keep your eyes on the screen even if the sweet story doesn’t interest you
Reason: With Monster High being the sensation it is, paticuarly on Tumblr, I’m increasingly shocked that Hotel Transylvania hasn’t made a splash, besides the absolutely adorable personality of Mavis- and Dracula makes it easy to see where she got that from- most of the charectors that so much as have speaking roles have some level of amusement to them, Mr. Wolf’s family on it’s own could be a movie as far as I’m concerned, but what really makes me love the movie is the plot, it’s more than the typical vampire/human soul mate romance (although the quirkiness of this one and the awkwardness of Johnathan) it’s more than anything about Dracula, like The Croods it shows the father role as more than the typical “I don’t want my daughter to date because of reasons” thing, it depicts a very justified fear of humans and how the death of his wife pushed his already astoundingly strong love for his daughter into a hyper-drive of overprotectiveness, and it shows that, although he is willing to go to any length to protect her, he very often has a hard time justifying his extreme actions to himself, and unlike most fathers in this sort of plot, he doesn’t just “accept” his daughter’s decisions, he actively seeks to help her get what she wants from them, and if nothing else I’d have thought that the references to cosplayers and Twilight would make Tumblr giggle, but really Dracula wins the Best Dad Ever award
Reason: Following the trends of strong female leads, we have this peice of gold, I would think Beyonce playing a Faery Queen would have put Epic on Tumblr’s radar but apparently not, the animation is stunning, by far one of, if not the, best movie on this list in terms of the animation quality, the charectors are all clever and unique, with a familiar sense of searching for where “home” is and what’s really important in life, it also puts a new spin on the faery/human relationships that we so often see repeats of, it isn’t the classic “Humans hunt faeries but learn their lesson” movie, nor is it quite as innocent as Arrietty, not to mention that the concept of the Queen and the Leaf Men are very unique in their construction
Tinkerbell and Disney Fairies movies
Reason: All I ever see of Tinkerbell (this one atleast) on Tumblr is hate about wishing she was the same amount of sassy and bad attitude that she was in Peter Pan’s world, but two things aren’t being taken into consideration here (and I think the reason for that is that most people on Tumblr don’t bother to see the movies) and those are 1. Tinkerbell DID have alot more attitude in the first two movies, paticuarly the second, and she was very easily riled and very easily frustrated, traits shown in Peter Pan (although I have honestly not watched Peter Pan in yeaaaaars so I don’t remember her from there very well) in Tinkerbell’s second solo movie it was highlighted the most and she also saw just how strong those traits were in her and she decided to change, 2. This PRECEEDS Peter Pan, if I’m not mistaken Pan’s Tinkerbell had been cast out of Pixie Hollow, it would be understandable that Tinkerbell, who already had these qualities in a lower dose, would only increase in frustration and jealousy if she had been an outcast, the thing is, people change, something obviously happened for Tinkerbell to decide to join Peter and leave Pixie Hollow, the Disney Fairy movies don’t demonstrate that, they show her adventures from before she joined Pan, they may eventually show a flittering relationship/meeting between the two but I doubt it, the Fairy movies have alot of classic Disney qualities and speak out most against following rules and conformity, from the first movie when she found herself put down for being a Tinker fairy and wanting to change her talent, to Secret Of The Wings when she meets her fraternal twin sister Periwinkle against the rules of Pixie Hollow, to The Pirate Fairy when the story centers not on Tinkerbell, but on Zerena, who was constantly spoken down to and made to feel unwelcomed just for wanting to experiment with the laws of Pixie Dust, it has a carefully strung balence between “The rules are in place for a reason” and “Sometimes you need to break them and that’s ok” and it’s done quite nicely
Spirit: Stallion Of The Cimarron
Reason: If I had to pick ONE movie that is the most underrated from this list, it would be Spirit, although it may look like a cute little movie about horses and rebellion, that really isn’t the case, the theme is very strong throughout the movie that the white men fighting against the Lakota tribe were in essence trying to break/imprison them just as much as they were the horses, Spirit is the only movie I know of that shows just how wrong the attack from Europeans on Native Americans was without it being a documentry of some sort, and although I think Disney’s version of Pocahontas TRIED to give off this vibe, I think it did poorly with it and gave a little too much (ok, alot too much) credit to the white men who came in and took everything the native people had,Spirit had none of that, I myself am white, but with some strong Native roots, I may be missing something that someone who’s purely/mostly Native American would find offensive, but as far as I can tell, Spirit does very well at representing the severely underrepresented group of people, and very accurately represented the cruelty of the Europeans, especially during that horrible war, even more than that though, it gave, in my opinion, a representation of Spirit and Little Creek’s relationship without making it corny or stereotyped, honestly, if I get pick any animated movie to get as much reckognition as Frozen does, Spirit would be it, because it isn’t JUST a good movie, JUST gorgeous animation, JUST a cute story… it’s all of those things, but more than anything, it’s a message that DESPERATELY needs to be heard in America, that just keeps getting shushed: Native representation, white power and how wrong it is- and was most especially when the Europeans took over- treating ALL people, as well as animals, with respect, free will, and I could just go on and on…
As much as I love the popular animation on Tumblr, Disney Princesses, Frozen,Rise Of The Guardians, How To Train Your Dragon, Finding Nemo, etc, these movies REALLY need to get out there, they have some important things to say
Let’s take the same principle and go a little more into detail. We are watching a fairy tale, right? We are expecting to see a love story, see that happily ever after in the same way that we expect to see the letter “A” pop up when we see the incomplete word F__RY T_LE. We take it for granted. Love stories are a part of almost all fairy tales, so sooner or later, we know we’re going to see the prince and the white steed. Or the businessman and the white Lamborghini - that’s a car, right? - or whatever we’re supposed to expect in a modern tale.
That means people are subconsciously looking to see a love story unfold for their hero. And the writers are counting on it. Our expectations are used to fool us. Naughty, naughty. Let’s take a look at everyone’s two favorite couples - favorites to argue about that is. Emma & Regina and Emma & Hook. Let’s compare them to the one established couple. Snow White and Prince Charming.
All these couples start out as enemies. They are following the same trajectory. Say the shape of the letter “A” represents the classic enemies-to-lovers story. Just like the letter, we don’t have to look it up every time we see it. We recognize it simply because we have seen it over and over and over again. There is a template for it in our minds. We recognize it even when it’s… incomplete. Just like the letter A still looks like an “A” to us if bits and pieces are missing.
This is what these relationships would look like if their story is represented by the letter A. Nobody questions Snow and Charming’s love story as they were an iconic couple before the series even started. They are the example. As pointed out in this post by @swanqueenproof Emma and Regina’s story follows the same pattern as that of Snow White and Prince Charming. Then this post by @frankie-blue-sq shows us how Emma and Hook’s relationship shares the same pivotal moments, except it contrasts them. Their letter is black. Their story also follows the same pattern, the shape is the same, but the content is the opposite. Their kiss doesn’t work - it even takes away Emma’s power - and trying to share a heart with him results in pain for Emma.
For the pirate and the princess, the writers have been counting on the audience’s need to complete. Unless you noticed the potential between the princess and the queen - which they were clearly counting on most people wouldn’t - by season two, you’d have your panties in a twist to have that love interest show up. In the form of an enemy. Apart from us being used to this trope, Snow and Charming starting out as enemies meant we should have an eye out for someone Emma started off on the wrong foot with. Or the wrong hand, in this case.
From the beginning, the writers have given us an incomplete version of the trope with Hook and Emma. They were counting on the audience to mentally fill in those blanks. They never got a meet-cute, that moment they first laid eyes on each other, but they gave them a conversation on the beanstalk early on. They both opened up a little and Hook took care of her hand. It was the moment people had been waiting for, so that became their meet-cute. The entire relationship is filled with these moments that are close enough to pass, but not enough to fit the trope.
Who am I to decide those moments were not enough, you ask indignantly? Excellent question!
If you’re writing an enemies-to-lovers story, there are a few rules you have to stick to. No cheating, no shortcuts. This is serious business, folks, and there are three steps you simply don’t skip.
Establish an initial connection
To make your entire audience root for your couple - especially if you know you’ll have them treat each other horribly later - you need to create a moment to show their initial attraction. The first time they look at each other, before they remember they’re somehow each other’s enemy - or this isn’t the time and place, we need to see them caught off-guard. It’s a moment between just the two of them, where they stare at each other just a little too long. Like Charming stares at Snow here… and then Snow’s smile tells us she’s not afraid, but amused by the situation and the man… on top of her.
Emma and Regina are perfectly civil before it all goes south. They share an intense moment where they’re both caught off-guard and stare at each other. Emma even licks her lips. Sure, it was an awkward and emotional situation, but if their feelings are revealed, this scene qualifies as a love-at-first-sight scene. Even after that moment, they’re both completely civil, Regina opens up to Emma a little, which we later learn was rather uncharacteristic. Emma does the right thing, respecting Regina as Henry’s mother and leaving. It’s only after Emma’s car crash - something beyond their control - that Emma decides to stay and the relationship turns sour.
Hook and Emma simply don’t even get an elaborate first meeting scene and they definitely don’t get a meet-cute. The first person we see after Hook’s face is revealed is Snow’s. They also chose to introduce him as he was hiding under a pile of dead bodies and they opted for an ensemble scene where the focus wasn’t even on them.
In fact we never get a scene where Emma seems interested in Hook during their first episodes together. We get distrust, fear, annoyance and even disgust. Yet again, people were expecting to see that love story, so the moment where Emma becomes less hostile, is considered their meet-cute, even if her body language tells a different story.
Give them a clear external conflict people can relate to
Another way to make it believable that enemies can turn into lovers is by making their conflict an external one. Something that has nothing to do with who they are as people, but everything with their circumstances. For Snow and Charming the conflict starts with Charming’s ring. Snow is trying to save her own life, Charming needs his ring back because it has emotional value. Emma and Regina’s conflict revolves entirely around Henry and what they both perceive to be best for him. In both of these cases, the audience can sympathize with both characters. It makes it so your audience believes these two can actually like each other once the circumstances change.
Hook & Emma’s conflict is far more murky. They actually want the same thing, to get to Storybrooke. Hook wants to kill the Dark One, Emma wants to get back to Henry. They form an alliance, but the conflict between them is enhanced by internal factors. He behaves like a sexual predator, making lewd remarks and none of her body language indicates that she appreciates it. She is completely distrusting toward him the entire time and at no point does she show an interest in his advances. In this case, Emma eventually simply not being more hostile than she is, is considered enough to make people believe they are seeing the trope they are expecting to see.
Establish them as equals
One punches, the other punches back. Evidently, for Emma and Regina, gender inequality is a non-issue, but with Snow and Charming, they’re very careful not to have Charming objectify Snow. He never sexually intimidates her, he never uses her gender against her. Hook clearly doesn’t see or treat Emma as an equal, by making a point of the fact that she is a woman he lusts after. Having the conflict come from the gender difference is just a no-go. It’s an imbalance the characters can never really come back from. There has to be a level of respect for the other side’s strength. They can hurt each other, but they have to be able to inflict a similar level of hurt. If it was really important for them to have Hook lust after Emma - because it’s part of the pirate act - without it being a bad thing, they would have had Emma objectify him just the same. Have her insult his manhood. Anything to bring them on the same level. Instead they chose not to.
Even while they are still enemies, there are ways to show the audience these characters do enjoy their battle.
Snow and Charming are often smiling as they banter. They try to come up with good lines to impress the other and they spend a lot of time talking to this person they supposedly want nothing to do with.
Same goes for Emma and Regina, disregarding the blatant subtext of this conversation, their body language and their smiles show they are on some level enjoying their little interaction here. Meanwhile Hook and Emma’s interactions remain very hostile. Even after kissing him she remains standoffish. He chases her, they are not shown to be equally invested.
On the surface, Emma and Hook seem to fit the enemies-to-lovers trope. They were enemies, they grew closer and now they are a couple. If you don’t look beyond the surface, they fit the trope. Once you look a little bit closer, however, you notice that vital pieces are simply missing. Story elements they easily could have written, they chose not to write. Emma and Hook’s relationship seems like the main relationship, but that’s only the case if you put form over content.
Emma and Regina’s story looks like the first A. It’s faint, nobody is drawing attention to it and the fact that people don’t consider lesbian relationships an option, makes it really easy to hide. The shape, however, is intact. The writers followed the rules of the trope for them. Their story is like that of Snow and Charming. All the important pieces to make the enemies-to-lovers trope actually work are in place. Meanwhile the relationship between Hook and Emma looks like the second A. It’s highlighted, both in the story and in the PR, but once you look at the details, vital parts to make this work are simply… missing.
If they were really queer baiting, wouldn’t they at least have given Emma and Hook those same important moments? Now what seems to be their main relationship on the show is marked as far less healthy once you go into the details. If they really didn’t know what they were doing, could they have gotten the trope right with both Snow & Charming and with Emma & Regina?
Sunburn, Sand Penises, and Why Katya's Nipples Could Probably Cut Glass || fluff/humor/drabble || Ramona
a/n hallelu i’m back from holiday bitches!! i had a couple ideas for fics so i decided to put them all together, and add sand. this is a mix of pearlet, jalaska, trixya, and biadore. warnings for weed use and swearing. feedback is appreciated!!
What? N-NO! This can’t be! I thought…I mean…I couldn’t…I didn’t know!
“You’re disgusting! You must not have siblings…you need to stop! It’s gross!”
Don’t you see? I can’t!
Also, I do have siblings, two younger brothers. But I can separate fiction from reality. It’s a nifty skill.
“You missed the whole message of the movie! People like you always do.”
I missed the entire point of the movie? You mean the whole concept of believing in someone when they can’t believe in themselves; or supporting your family through the hardest times; or accepting someone for their uniqueness; or the act of true love can be familial and entirely platonic; or that love is putting someone else’s needs before yours?
I think I need to make a few points, if I may.
• I’m tired of people’s arguments that because a person is an Elsanna shipper that they’ve entirely missed the point of the film. Or that they didn’t understand the intentions of the film makers. It’s a crappy argument that holds very little ground.
• I’m tired of people assuming that because the pairing is incestuous, that we shippers are either incestuous deviants ourselves. Or that we don’t have siblings to begin with, so we can’t understand the platonic love and sibling dynamic. Ugh, this one kills me. I have two younger brothers, myself, as I’ve said, and I in no way want to have anything remotely close to a romantic relationship with either of them. I can separate fiction from reality.
But! That isn’t to say that there’s anything inherently wrong with it either. I’m not personally interested in, nor involved with, an incestuous relationship. I am, however, a firm believer that as long as it’s two consenting adults they have as much right to be happy as the rest of us.
I’m also not bothered by anything that deviates from the gender binary norm and heteronormativity of our society. Speaking as a genderqueer pansexual myself, I know how hard it is to find acceptance in our society. So no, the fact that Elsa and Anna are both girls, and not only would their relationship be incestuous, but also gay, does not bother me in the slightest.
• I’m tired of the gross overexaggeration that we have associated with us. Just because our pairing deviates from the norm a little does not mean we’re “into kinky shit”. I mean, sure some of us are, but I can guarantee you that it is not a staple of the Elsanna shippers to also support rape, noncon in general, or anything else equally as out there.
• Lastly, I’m sick and tired of unnecessary hate. You’re taking time out of your day to ruin mine. What for? You think saying these hurtful things will make me repent and see the error of my ways? Of course it won’t. I see absolutely nothing wrong with my choices in the matter. What I do see, is someone going out of their way to disrespect something I never forced on them. You can avoid Elsanna things by steering clear of the tag, or by simply scrolling past it.
I don’t like Hanna, for example, but I don’t go around looking for blogs or supporters of the pairing to shit on their day. I just move on by, because hey, everyone is entitled to like what they like.
If you don’t like something, take a lesson from Elsa, and just let it go.
In conclusion, hateful notes like that really don’t garner whatever effect you’re hoping for. I’m not about to stop shipping these lovely girls, nor am I going to start some kind of war with you over it.
So, Elsanna shippers, Kristanna shippers, Hanna shippers, Helsa shippers, and all other Frozen related shippers, lets all just agree to get along. We’re here because we love Disney’s Frozen, and the characters involved, so lets treat one another with the same respect we’d treat out beloved cast.
Highlights from the Raphael Sbarge Panel at Creation NJ.
What is Archie been doing? “What has Archie been doing… What has Archie been doing… a whole bunch of other things. You know he’s got a big client list… and you know he’s not allowed to talk about his clients. Archie’s been doing other things basically. You know I get emailed or tweeted essentially probably 30-40 times a day about where the heck is Archie and I don’t have an answer! I just want to say I love being here. I love being part of the show.”
On being recognized on the street. “I get all sorts of responses….” *followed by him imitating incoherent flailing* “It’s me! Sometimes people just throw their arms around me. Which is weird and random on the subway. I get various responses. Which is lovely. I feel mostly very warm responses. Which is sweet. I’ve mostly gotten used to it. What people do and what people say is how much the character means to them, and how much Jiminy Cricket means to them. And how much they were touched in their heart by this character which means a lot to me.”
(Unheard question). “Yes I kept thinking I had enormous job security as a therapist in Storybrooke.”
“I saw it was Jared’s birthday the other day and I felt sort of amazed. I’ve watched him grow up from the early days of sitting in therapy with Henry.”
“What’s really cool about Pongo is that he’s actually the agility champion of Canada. Which is an enormous distinction. One of the strongest animals besides a horse I’ve ever met. When they yell cut you just go ‘urghg’…” *imitating lurching forward* “I learned to preserve my neck to let go of the leash he’s so strong. He’s a beautiful dog. I think they wanted to create this … he’s so pretty. He’s really a beautiful dog. I’m very proud of Pongo. Though I approach gently…”
Question: One of my favorite parts of the series is when bravery comes in different forms and to me one of the most brave things I saw anyone ever do was Archie go to the Evil Queen in early season 2 and ask her if she wanted to talk about her pain. What were Archie’s motivations for going to this very scary woman who had been part of his life as a very scary person, what made him do that? - “Yeah… the thing that is so thoughtful about this show is the heroes journeys and the call to find the strength. I feel like his entire motive for trying to help Regina was about trying to help Henry. Trying to help her get back to the better angels of her nature so that she would consider those around her and be better. I think he also saw that there was a good person in there. What I think Lana does brilliantly is show that this is a woman who is not just an Evil Queen she’s got so much more. She’s got a kaleidoscope of emotions and feelings. We go from rooting for her and hating her and loving her. That’s what she does. But again I think he was trying to reach to her, to speak to that good part in her and try to elevate that.”
What did you like best about your character? “I loved the therapy. I loved my relationship with Henry. I loved that I was sort of… especially in those early seasons… like a second dad for him even though he has two moms.” An extended talk about how much he loves the cast. “I loved being part of a show with such a big heart. I love that people come up to me and say my whole family watches the show: my grandmother and my kids, my wife and I sit down and we all love the show. That’s an amazing thing to be a part of. I work a lot. I’m on another show now. I do a lot of film and television but this is the story that I feel apart of….”
His Murder in the First character “couldn’t be too much farther from Archie…” but that he has a bit of a conscious and maybe those qualities follow you as an actor.
“When I first read the script [of the pilot] I said this is unbelievable! But oh no they’re going to mess it up. It’s too good how are they going to do this?” But that once they saw the finished pilot it was so much better than he’d imagined. “The amazing thing is that we get messages from all over the world. Some American content does not travel. Meaning that it does not necessarily play well in other countries. I’m astonished, from Russia to Japan to China to Ireland, England, South America, Norway, I mean everywhere this show plays so well. It’s been an incredible ride.”
About playing both Archie and the Cricket: “You know the cricket is actually as you know CGI and done in after effects. I’m essentially a voice actor at that point and that’s fun. But I also like being on set. So it’s just different. I have a career voicing video games, I don’t know if they knew that when they cast me but it’s fun playing a part that also has a voice over aspect to it. I’ve enjoyed that a lot. I know that they’ve flirted with having him in and out and me not voicing it. It’s utterly delightful to go back and forth.”
Is it weird to see yourself as a cricket? “It’s totally weird to see yourself as a cricket.”
About being a child actor on Sesame Street: “I was living on the lower east side back in the late sixties. And one of my mother’s friends said they’re starting this new show and they need kids do you want to be on the show. I don’t remember this because I was four. But apparently they approached my mom. My mother was a costume designer in the theater. She’s done 20 shows on Broadway and been a professor at Yale and is really a very accomplished designer. And we were living in a commune on the lower East Side in the sixties. And I guess kind of on a lark … it was being shot down town and I went over and did a few. And then I did a few more. And then apparently they offered me a contract to do a bunch of them and my mother said no because she didn’t want to be a stage mother and she also felt she wanted it to be my choice later on. It’s a hard road being an actor and she didn’t want to thrust me on that without me being aware of it. And I thought that was thoughtful. And based on someone who was in the business. But I remember distinctly meeting Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch in his trash can and I was amazed because they seemed so real to me. I mean how … wow… the puppeteering was so amazing. And Mr. Hooper… [crowd reacts and claps] … he and I sat on a donkey and he and I talked about the difference between donkeys and horses. So I would give anything to see that again. I guess they have it out now … I guess they’ve released the seasons. A friend of mine is producing a documentary about Sesame Street… and I know now it’s on HBO… it’s such a wonderful thing to remember. I remember vividly being on Sesame Street.”
How did Archie come to marry Rumple and Belle, did Mr. Gold go at him with a cane or did he feel like he owed Belle for saving his life? “It was very powerful being there that day. It was in the middle of this forest, this beautiful rain forest in Vancouver. We have access to these forests that regular people can’t get in. You need special permits … breathtaking. Under this incredible canape of trees… with these lost mine paths… just lit up. The trees all lit up with moonlight. A moonlight serenade. I had very little to do right… so I had to just stand there and bare witness. I remember being off camera crying. I was so touched by their work. It was like being able to go up and watch two stunningly beautiful actors really connect. It was really something.”
He loved that Archie was there (at the Rumbelle wedding) because it seemed that Archie represents hope and trying to do good and trying to do the right thing. “We felt like for that moment everything would really turn out alright.”
On playing a killer on Criminal Minds: “I remember when that came out. It was not long after I’d been on Once Upon a Time and I got a lot of ‘AHHHH ARCHIE’S KILLING PEOPLE!’ Those parts are really fun to do, the juicy bad guys. As Lana will tell you those are the best parts. They’re the best parts.”
About doing research on being a psychiatrist: “I did years and years of research. Years and years and years. I’ve been in therapy and it’s wildly helpful.” Playing a teacher or a therapist is a great honor.
Who needs some therapy with Archie? Fan: A lot of people on the show are really messed up… (he agrees).
Memories of being in Risky Business: He was 18 and just graduated high school. “That guy Tom …. what happened to him?”
“They wrote the most sad backstory in the first season for Jiminy Cricket. He didn’t just wake up one day to be the poster child for Have a Conscious. He actually with the dolls, with his story, he came to his conscious for having done the wrong thing for so long that he finally decided to devote his life to something else. It still moves me.”
What advise would Archie give Henry about being the Author: “With great power comes great responsibility.”
If Archie was talking to Regina now, how would he respond to her growth? “Woo Girl.” [Crowd laughter] “Lana is a rock star. I mean it. And what she gets to do is really … I mean the full spectrum of good and bad and you love her and you hate her and you love to hate her. And you always love her. She makes it looks easy. She’s just a consummate actor. I … it’s a big step to step into a therapists office and to ask advise and to let your guard down and to reach out for help. Maybe at some point that opportunity will come. I would love that.”
Favorite Disney parks attraction: Space Mountain.
Favorite Season: I’m partial to the first season because I had more to do in it.
The Breakdown of the Jury fight between Da’Vonne and Paulie (+Zakiyah).
Below the line you have me, a tortured bb tumblr soul that watched the fight during the live eviction and had such a whiplash, I had to sit down, adjust my glasses, pop open a jar of mandarin oranges, and watch that fight like I was a part of the FBI, solving a homicide case. What did we see during that now in the history books, iconic jury segment?
Prompt: Now that Moira Queen is running for mayor. They are concerned about how Oliver’s playboy image and not to mention the gossip going around about his affair with his EA will affect their campaign. Moira calls her son and his EA and requests them to either to stop this affair or make it official.
-Took a while. It was supposed to be a funny story but after ep.13 it kinda went…angsty.
“I activated a GPS into his phone thanks Digg’s friend, so when he-“ Felicity stopped herself as the elevator doors opened and she and Oliver were no longer alone. Felicity shuffled closer to Oliver, making space for the middle-aged man.
“Thanks Felicity.” Oliver adjusted his tie and stared straight at the door. They were meeting his mother at her request on the 15th floor of QC in her old office. Though Felicity had met with Oliver’s mother before she could never shake the feeling of inferiority- not that Ms. Queen ever gave her a reason to it was just she was quiet and reserved- the opposite of her.
“Are you suure your mother wants me there I mean…” Felicity trailed off trying to think of a way to say she wasn’t sure Moira Queen liked her, especially after what she had told her son.
“She asked for both of us.” By his tone she could tell Oliver would say no more. She imagined he didn’t want to be here that much either.
Ever since Felicity had confronted Oliver’s mother, she had been wary of Oliver. The affect of her confession had shut him up again and though she didn’t regret her decision to be honest with him. It was the suggestion of Moira Queen, which caused her to feel anxious near her… friend. The idea of being the surrogate of his hate was heavy on her. Still she was not ready to face it.
The chime of the elevator broker her from he reverie with a start, which drew a look and a fond smile from Olivier and in response a sheepish look from her.
Heading towards Mrs. Queen’s office was silent as both prepared in their own way to meet with the prospective mayor.
Moira Queen was at her desk, reading over her notes with a highlight in hand. At the sound of Oliver and Felicity entering, she raised her eyes from the notes and smiled, thinly.
Felicity felt the cold apathy of the older woman like a chill down her back, and shuffled unconsciously.
She stood up to greet them, “Oliver, so good to see you. Miss Smoak. Please sit.”
‘We can stand. We wont be here long will we mother?” His voice matching the chill of Mrs. Queen as only a son could match his mother.
Mrs. Queen looked at Felicity when she spoke, “I suppose not. I just want to make you both aware that many colleagues have brought to my attention the questionable nature of your relationship.”
“What no! There’s-“ Felicity felt the rabbling building with her outburst.
“So what? It’s no one’s business.” Oliver challenged.
“Well be that as it may, the appearance of Miss Smoak does not sit well with many supporters. It does not seem …professional.”
Felicity meant to speak but Oliver beat her to it.
“Much like you marrying an associate of dad’s. Perhaps us Queen’s can’t differentiate business from pleasure.”
Felicity whipped her head around to look as his profile. Did he realize what he’d said? Judging by his face it was just dawning on him.
Mrs. Queen looked between the two of them but didn’t seem phased.
“So do you plan to define the relationship with you and Miss Smoak?”
Oliver looked at Felicity, biting his lip before looking to the ground.
It was all Felicity needed to turn on her leaves and get away from both Queens. It’s complicated… That’s what he would have said. It’s always complicated when there’ beautiful lawyers, extraordinary huntresses and female vigilantes- How could a simple IT girl ever compete.
“Felicity!” He was right behind her calling her name and all she could do was pick up her pace. The burning behind her eyes was too degrading and not in front of them.
She was close to the elevator when Oliver’s hands wrapped firmly around her upper arm.
“I can’t do this- okay?” She looked down as she said this, not sure if she could really take his response.
Now both his hands her on her; holding her still, trapping her until she explained something she couldn’t even explain to herself.
His voice was warm and close. “Felicity, what are you saying?”
She could hear he tried to make it light but it felt heavy on her ears.
“I’m not supposed to be here. Not with you or Diggle. I-I’m the tech person.”
“ But…I-we –Diggle and I need you.”
She looked up at him then. He needed to know.
“Yes. But your mom is right. People don’t know why you keep me around and assume and worst and they’re wrong, but…” But I wish they were right. No she couldn’t say that.
Oliver’s hands tightened on her arms and he bent his arm to further close the distance between them.
“ I feel all confused. I mean you let me into your cave and shared some pretty big secrets and I read too far into it.” She sighed as she finally found the end to her embarrassing explanation. Oliver didn’t say anything. She kinda saw it coming. “I can offer you my resignation- for this job not the other one. I will make things…”
It was almost a whisper but to her it was the last straw. She wanted to be angry but she was exhausted.
“Oliver…” She didn’t want to cry but holding it all in now was so painful it was like trying to hold up a rainstorm. Even since she starting working with Oliver and Diggs she had come to realize how weak she was and though she tried to keep up with them she felt like she would never catch up. Moira’s ultimatum only realized this fear of her’s
“I’ll never be enough for you and it hurts me, Oliver.” She felt the lump in her throat coming up and wanted nothing more than to get away from him but Oliver still had his hands tightly on her arms. Until he pulled her into a hug.
Felicity couldn’t help but gasp, not expecting the impromptu hug in the middle of Queen Consolidated to be seen by all of the accounting department. Felicity could feel every part of Oliver against her, firm and warm, enveloping her until she felt like they were one. She felt like in this embrace, she could absorb some of his strength and she let herself accept his hold on her, bringing her arms up to rest both her hand on his back.
“ I don’t know how I could get through any of this without you. Don’t leave.”
“But your mom…”
He pulled his head away from her shoulder. Oliver looked into her eyes with that softness that Felicity felt was only saved for her.
“ She doesn’t get to influence us or our relationship.” He then looked about the hall before putting his mouth to her ear and said. “ And if we were playing by her rules, you’d be a Queen within the hour.”
Nothing seemed to ever go on at Twilight Town, especially not in Twilight Kingdom. Of course, most of the townsfolk preferred it that way. There were no crimes, for the people had everything they needed thanks to the late King and Queen. And their Ports were guarded often to keep stealing and pirates from entering their land. Everyone living on this island was happy.
All except one.
Said person sighed loudly and ran his finger and thumb against the spine of the quill in his hand. The sunlight from the large window illuminated the study he sat in, making the dust present in the air. The figure sat in a large chair by a sturdy, dark wooden desk, a parchment with no words sitting upon it.
I, Roxas, the Prince of Twilight Town and Kingdom, was bored out of my mind. Once again, I sat in this study with nothing to do. The bright light outside beckoned to me, and I would have liked nothing more but to stride out, put on my loose tunic and pants, grab my saber and train to my heart’s content. It was honestly the closest thing to excitement that I got around here on this island, even if it only was three times a week. The burning feeling in my muscles, the sweat running down my skin, thinking of nothing else but myself, my blade my extension. Just thinking about it made my body ache with want.
My pain was short-lived though, for the door to the study opened with a slam. I dare to say that I jumped, before turning and watching a sudden green and gold mass fly towards me and collide into my body. I toppled, nearly falling onto the floor before a pair of arms caught me and pulled me up into a warm mass that I knew was a chest.
“Roxas!” The figure called, smiling down at me as I looked up and found a face looking down at me that was identical to my own.
“Ventus, did you have to barge in like that?” I sighed softly. Giggles spilled from her rosy lips and I knew my question only entertained her.
“I’m sorry brother. I didn’t mean to startle you. I am just so excited for the party today!”
At the mention of the party, I inwardly groaned. Of course SHE would be excited.
“I’m glad someone is.” I sighed softly, motioning for her to step back before I could rise to my feet.
“What do you mean?” She looked to me, startled. “Everyone is excited for your birthday party Roxas! All the royals and nobles from the other islands are coming here just to see you! Kings and Queens, Princesses, Dukes, Duchess, Lords and Ladies, Maybe some handsome Princes as well.” She grinned towards me and nudged me with her arm. I knew what she was implying.
I let out another large sigh.
“Ventus, you know that is not my idea of fun. I like my parring and training with Aqua. You like your social events and dresses. It is just not me.”
I looked over to her, trying to mentally make her feel bad in hopes that she would cancel the party, but I could tell by the determined glance in her eyes, she was having none of it.
“I know this Roxas, but we have never celebrated your birthday like this before, as one of your wishes, mind you. But you’re turning 18 now. It is a very important time in your life and it should be celebrated as such. I’m not asking anymore than that.”
“It might not be a lot for you, but it is for me.” I frowned deeply. “ I hate dancing. and the woman that attend more so. They all talk of how rich and beautiful they are while they try to grope and fondle you. And then you have to thank them for trying to seduce me and boring me as well? What kind of a birthday is that?"
"A normal one.” She pointed out.
“Well, we are both not that now are we?” I asked, watching with a smirk as a blush dusted across her cheeks and her hands lowered to smooth out the skirt of her green dress.
“Even so,” She pressed, looking up to meet my gaze. “I want you to have a party just this once. That is why I am not having mine tomorrow. And then I will never ask you again. I’ll even stop making you attend mine as well.”
My hands quickly went up to stop her. “Easy there, you don’t have to go that far.” I dropped them to my side as I stepped to her. “I never said that I don’t enjoy attending your party. At least I get some fun for stealing you away from all of the suitors. And of course, watching Vanitus is the highlight of the evening.”
I watched in amusement as my sister’s cheeks went from a rosy pink to a blood red in a manner of seconds at the mention of her lover and bodyguard. Vanitus, a former pirate that we had hired long ago to protect my sister, had fallen in love with her over the years. It was no secret now for all the times that I had caught them kissing in the halls. Of course, Vanitus getting raging jealous whenever another male came Ventus’ way or the obvious blush on my sister’s cheeks every time his name is mentioned didn’t help either.
“You really shouldn’t antagonize him Roxas. He is only doing his job of taking care of me,” She murmured while playing with her glove.
“Oh, I am sure he does splendid. I can hear it all the time passing your room.” I smirked wickedly, watching her face snap up to look at me and turn the brightest red I have ever seen it. Oh this was too good.
Okay, so my wifey Sarah is unavailable, so I’m going to try to do the honors of her usual meta. If it’s not up to her par, don’t throw things at me. This is obviously an emotional episode for the fandom and feelings are running high, so I’m going to try my best to be fair and discuss what happened overall, not just saying farewell to one of our favorites, although obviously that was a huge part. Neal, Rumple, and Emma, Hook, Outlaw Queen, Zelena, and more are all discussed behind the cut.
Kelly Rowland Poses Nude For Elle Magazine (Shot By Lance Gross)
Kelly Rowland or Kelly Glowland? Because the mom-to-be is giving off glowing, ethereal pregnant queen goddess tease in Elle magazine!
With one hand covering her growing boobs and another holding her baby bump, Kelly takes part in the tradition of pregnant celebrity moms posing nude in her latest photo spread. The image was captured by actor and celebrity photographer Lance Gross, and also includes a few clothed shots as well, where Kelz looks just as gorgeous in a tuxedo and dresses, as she does in the buff.
For the interview portion of the feature, Kelly gushes about beginning her journey as a new mom (she’s due in a couple of weeks) and how she plans to raise her son while balancing her career. She also shares the secret behind her enviable glow (hint: cocoa butter on deck!), the yummy treats she’s been craving, and not understanding why nude pregnancy shots are so frowned upon.
Peep the highlights:
On what she looks forward most to about motherhood:
I can’t wait until he gets here. I just have a couple more weeks. I’m excited to bring a child into the world, and sharing that experience with my husband is probably the most beautiful part.
I love cherry pie and chocolate ice cream with peanut butter mixed in it. And I had a week straight where I was obsessed with nachos.
On her pregnancy beauty regimen:
I’ve switched out anything with harsh chemicals. I use nothing but shea butter, pure cocoa butter and coconut oil. It’s amazing how all of those things work so well for my skin. I’m going to continue to just use those after the baby gets here.
On the kind of celebrity mom she plans on being:
I just plan to play it by ear. Everybody has their normal. And sometimes, award shows are a part of that. I have girlfriends who have that experience, and they’ll say ‘You know, I just really didn’t want to be without my child today.’ And it’s just that simple. It’s about finding your normal, whatever that may be.
On posing nude:
Some pregnant women get flack for nude photos. Why was it important to you to include those in the shoot? I don’t know why they would get flack. It’s really—I won’t say amazing—it’s Godmazing [laughs] watching your body carry a human. I took a birthing class and I was amazed by all the things this woman was saying to me about birthing and what the body does naturally. Why wouldn’t you want to celebrate that? The body should be celebrated.
On balancing being a mom, a wife and an entertainer:
I watch Diana Ross and Donna Summer and all these women—they’ve managed to do it all. I think ‘What makes me different? I can definitely do it.’ And this is something I’ve wanted. I’ve been talking about babies since last year. I believe I spoke it into existence during a conversation with my friend, and I feel like I became pregnant overnight! And she said all we need is a community of strong people around us, and we rely on each other and our families.
On rumors she’ll be playing Donna Summer in upcoming biopic:
All these rumors! I was just with my glam squad, we were having fun and we saw this beautiful picture of a Donna Summer record. I was like ‘let’s try to do this look!’ I love Donna Summer. I love how she’s this sex goddess, and she’s so beautiful and powerful onstage. So we mocked up a cover and I posted a picture. That’s all it was! But it would be an amazing opportunity to play her.
True Love & High Adventure + A Daddy!Killian One Shot
For @optomisticgirl who requested some Daddy!Killian Princess Bride style. Only one reply for you, my friend - as you wish :]
“Hey buddy,” Killian’s sleepy voice greeted, raspy from rest and an unexpected awakening. “Feeling any better?”
Liam shook his head with a soft sniffle, snuggling back against the blankets as he rubbed his eyes. Killian moved into the room with a sympathetic smirk and a big yawn. He’d been leaning in the doorway for only a moment after his little boy’s coughing had pulled him from an early morning slumber. Liam had been on the tail end of a nasty winter cold for a few days, a fact that brought out the protective parent in him. Well, the overprotective parent as Emma would say.
“You need to get some shut eye, lad,” Killian encouraged with a slight laugh, leaning forward and kissing his son’s forehead. “You look pretty tired.”
“I know,” Liam sighed, looking up at him with tired yet hopeful eyes. “But papa, could you maybe read me a story? Just until I go back to sleep?”
Killian smiled with a subtle nod, knowing full well he wasn’t about to deny such a simple request from his sick kid - especially when bedtime tales were a pastime he’d missed out on recently. Ailments of the season had taken a bit of a toll on their daily routines. Taking a few minutes to indulge wouldn’t be a crime.
“Alright, my boy,” he said sweetly, lifting a book he didn’t recognize from the bedside table. “What’s this one?”
“Oh, it’s a new book.”
“I figured as much,” Killian grinned, flipping the cover open. “But what’s it called?”
“It’s the Princess Bride, papa.”
Of course it was. Killian tried desperately not to roll his eyes at the addition to his son’s surprisingly vast collection of literature. This was definitely the work of his wife - Emma loved that bloody movie. Accepting the challenge to locate this particular tale in the form of a bedtime storybook wasn’t something his young son could have accomplished without her assistance.
“I see,” Killian sighed, thumbing through the pages. “Does the fact that it’s sitting here mean you’ve already read this one and we can look for something a little more adventurous?”
“Pa-pa,” Liam groaned, sitting up in bed and wiggling under his covers. “This story has lots of adventure! Fencing and fighting and giants….chases and pirates too I think.”
“Hmmm,” Killian mused, leaning back in the chair next to his son’s bed. “So I suppose I ought to try and stay awake for it then?”
“Well, yeah,” Liam replied, raising an eyebrow. “I don’t think you’re going to be able to read if your eyes aren’t open.”
Killian laughed, shaking his head at the boy’s all too correct observation. His fingers navigated their way to the title page and he cleared his throat softly. He’d always loved this - reading to Liam was something he’d perfected over the years he’d been called ‘papa’. The look on his son’s face told him just how much the skill was appreciated.
“Okay,” he sighed, scratching softly at his jaw. “Chapter one….”
He set into a well known rhythm, his voice curving around the words on each page in a manner that was fluid and natural. Liam rested under the warmth of his blanket, studying the way Killian read just as he always did. It was difficult to resist peeking up at his son’s entertained eyes - so he allowed himself to do so a time or two.
It was such a perfectly calm scene - well, until they worked their way through a few more pages.
“Whoa - wait,” Killian started, stopping momentarily. “What is all this about ‘as you wish’? That Westley shouldn’t allow that lass to always have her way. Farm boy or not - the man’s got to set some boundaries. I mean she can’t just-”
Liam gave him a bit of a glare, one that told him to let it go and continue. He also appeared to be stifling a laugh and Killian narrowed his eyes at that fact. Clearly his mother’s son, he thought with a groan.
“You were saying, papa?”
“Ugh - fine,” Killian retorted, lifting his striped socked feet to rest on the bed. “As I was saying….”
Killian’s voice resumed narrating the orders Buttercup gave Westley. He tried to keep the sarcasm from his storytelling, but by the time sunset rolled around in the book, he couldn’t help himself.
“Wait - you didn’t tell me there was kissing in this book, lad,” he complained, arching his eyebrows. “This isn’t appropriate-”
“Well, there sure isn’t any bloody sword fighting like you said,” he defended, skimming a few other paragraphs. “When does it get good?”
“When you keep reading, papa,” Liam told him, smiling at his dad’s reactions. “Soon you get to see Westley become a pirate!”
“Hmmm, pirating is good,” Killian decided, flipping the page dramatically. “Let’s see now….”
He found his place in the text and began to read again, guiding them through Buttercup’s devastation at Westley’s apparent demise and highlighting the dramatic recount of her kidnapping. Killian hadn’t really noticed the way his tone lowered and the slight concern that laced it as he started the part where the princess jumped overboard into monster infested waters.
“Papa, the eels don’t get her this time.”
Killian looked up from the book, quickly realizing that his eyes were far too wide as Liam smirked at him. He tried to regain his composure as he matched his son’s witty stare.
“I’m just telling you because you looked worried,” Liam offered, yawning at he pressed his head back into the pillow. “The eel doesn’t get her when she jumps in.”
“Pfff - I’m not worried,” Killian lied, shrugging with feigned nonchalance. “I just don’t understand why she’d jump overboard. Doesn’t seem like she was thinking clearly.”
“Maybe she was just trying to get their attention?”
Killian bit his lip in thought, tilting his head as his eyes fell back to the book. This particular plot point was a little too familiar. It was almost reminiscent of a time he should have been paying a bit more attention to a woman trying to make a statement - a moment where that certain princess had thought it appropriate to leap from the safety of a ship into a stormy and mermaid ridden sea. His heart flip flopped a bit at the parallel as he tried to hold back a grin.
“Papa, we can stop now if you want-”
“No, no, it’s okay,” Killian returned, trying to swallow his building excitement. “We can read a little more. But, uh, wait - which part were we on?”
“I think she was in the water,” Liam recalled, sighing heavily. “The eel was coming after her and-”
“Ah, yes - here!”
Liam almost giggled at his father’s rather anxious outburst, a reaction that caused Killian to blush as he buried his face in the book once more. He picked up the tale where they’d left off and his pace increased as they began to blaze through more of the text. He read with fervor as he told Liam of the man in black and the fact that he was not left handed, a fact that Killian silently noted he had in common with this ‘Dread Pirate Roberts’.
He sped through a few more key occurrences - a loving Buttercup causing her true love to tumble down a hillside, the reunited’s couple chat in the fire swamp ruled by rodents of unusual size, and a little more kissing that surely did not need to be included in the book. As he read, he tried not to compare the twosome’s rather epic love story to the one he shared with Emma. The similarities were definitely there though - especially seeing how through it all, the pair seemed to always find one another. It made his stomach flutter a bit as he turned another page.
He was on the verge of giving away just how much he was enjoying the tale Liam had coaxed him into when he came up against a sentence that was not appealing in the least - the one where Humperdinck stood on a balcony Killian wished he’d fall off of.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa - I read that wrong,” Killian said aloud, going back over the words he was sure were a mistake. “Buttercup….the queen? No - no, that’s not how….she doesn’t marry Humperdinck! She has to marry Westley! I’m sure of it. Liam, how is it possible that-”
His panicked eyes shot up, begging for an explanation from his son - who’d apparently fallen asleep. Killian’s words hung in the air as he dropped back against the chair. He let out a frustrated breath with a slightly happy smirk, but focused on the biggest and perhaps the only positive fact of the moment - his sick little boy was finally out cold. He tried to settle with the knowledge that he’d successfully lured him back to a restful slumber with some skilled storytelling, but his fingers inched for conclusion. Flipping through the rest of the book for some solace and reassurance was probably acceptable. He could do it quickly - he just needed to know how it ended.
“Find something you like in there?”
Killian jumped a bit at the voice coming from the door frame. His eyes snapped up to meet his wife’s accusing ones. Well, this was just perfect.
“Just finishing up the story your son requested,” he lied, trying to rid himself of his rosy cheeks. “Looks like it worked too - told you that one was boring, love.”
“Oh, I don’t think that’s it at all,” she smiled, wandering to his side and running her fingers teasingly through his hair. “I think he just likes hearing your voice, Killian. You haven’t been able to read to him since he’s been sick.”
“Yeah I know,” he sighed, a half smile at the corner of his cheek. “Feels good to be back.”
Emma moved around to the back of the chair, caressing his shoulders before pushing forward gently to wrap her arms around his neck. She nuzzled him softly as they shared in a moment of staring at the kid who’d turned them into a family. Liam shifted a few inches under the covers as Killian let out a soft laugh. Emma matched his reaction as he reached up to rest his fingers on her embrace.
“I’m glad you’ve obviously got him feeling a little better,” Emma offered softly, kissing his cheek in a sweet gesture. “Maybe we should let him get some sleep.”
Killian rested his head back against her torso, trying not to show too much disappointment at her decisive statement. The book still sat open in his lap and his eyes squinted carefully at the words before peering up at her.
“Hmmm, right,” Emma laughed, raising her eyebrows with a taunt. “Come to bed, Mr. Jones - after you finish your book of course.”
He smiled honestly at her agreement and pressed his mouth together in a way that he knew might tempt her kiss. She didn’t fight him as her lips dropped sweetly to his. As she pulled back, he realized there was really only one way to respond to her request.
