what do i have to do to get your job

Chapter 19: Episode 3

“It was nearly a complete disaster, Mom. I almost ruined everything. We missed the deadline and I– I don’t know what I’m doing here. Why did I ever take this job?” I sobbed.

“Laney, it’s okay. You’re stressed, you’re confused. It happens.”

“I want to go home!” I cried.

“Honey, you can’t run away at the first sign of things getting hard. This is your life now, you have to decide what you want from it. Come home, if you’d like, but you know it won’t solve anything.”

“What do I do?” I asked, my lip trembling.

“That’s for you to figure out. What do you want to do?”

           “I don’t know.”

           I don’t know… I don’t know. But I know I don’t want this.

Sans: ???

Papyrus: WHAT IF THEY BUILD THE ROCKET WRONG? I HAVE TO BE THERE TO MAKE SURE YOU’RE NOT GETTING HURT BY ANYONE’S MISTAKES!! AND THE BEST WAY TO DO THAT IS BY DOING EVERYTHING MYSELF!

Sans: heh, that’s sweet, paps. but you know you can do anything you want, right? besides, i doubt the underground’s getting a space program anytime soon.

Papyrus: SURE BUT, IF THAT DAY COMES, I WANT TO BE RIGHT THERE WITH YOU. <3

Sans: aww—

Papyrus: AND WHO KNOWS? MAYBE I’LL BE SO GOOD AT MY JOB THAT I’LL END UP BEING YOUR BOSS!!

Sans: …………

Sans: fair enough.

You’re having a quarter life crisis, it’s a totally different thing. Midlife crisis is where you’ve realised that you’ve wasted your life and you suddenly feel the need to do loads of things. Quarter life crisis is that when you’re young, you’re presented with the opportunity to do whatever you want with your life and it’s the pressure of knowing that you either have to go out and attempt to get whatever job your grandparents want or attempt to follow your dreams and possibly crash and burn, which is it’s own barrel of fun.

Quotes from Dan (33/?)

Almost every young person I know feels like this, myself included. We’re all struggling to figure out “what we’re going to do” with our lives. At least, we’re in this together.

How to get straight A's

Be ready to work hard. It doesn’t matter how early you get up. There’s no time to learn what type a person you are: morning or owl. You will understand it in the process. Using my experience, I want you to give an advice, how to get straight A’s.

1. Do your minimum. Just don’t skip lessons, have all materials with you and ask questions! Yes, I know that sometimes it is scared, but if you ask once, then it will be easier. Most teachers will see that you are interested and appreciate it.
2. After school, university, job have one hour to eat, check your mail, Tumblr, Instagram and take a nap for 20 min if you need it.
3. Open your planner (or where you write down what you should do), take a piece of paper and write down what you have to do for the next day. Do you need to make a project? Divide it into small parts. 📝 I use a month planner and all projects, tests I write down to be mentally prepared. Also it helps me to structure everything in my head.
4. OK, now you see what you have to do. Go for a cup of tea and come back. Good! Look at the list again and take all materials that you need: textbook, notebook, pens, pencils. Do you have everything? So, it is time to work. I usually study for 50 min and 10 min I relax: go for another cup of tea, watch cute videos or pictures, jump, dance… Then, I work again and again. After three hours I have dinner or dessert for 30-40 min. After it, I return to my work.
5. When you have everything done, think: how you feel right now? I’m tired, but happy! I did it!! And you did too! Good job!
6. Prepare for tomorrow: pack you bag, prepare your clothes.
7. I don’t have a certain time to go to bed, but because of insomnia I make a routine: I have 30 min to brush my teeth, drink hot milk with honey, take a shower and read three chapters. Maybe it will help you too?
8. If you have weekends or holidays, you can go ahead! I usually repeat the information that I know and study further. But of course, free days are created to meet with friends, parents, to visit a theater, a gallery, a cinema or just go for a walk.
9. But anything won’t work, if you don’t want it: to study, to strain your brain. Do you wait for motivation??? I get A’s because I have discipline, and you don’t because you’re just lazy.
10. The last point: don’t wait for the good results immediately. Keep working, look at the successful studyblrs (how they show themselves) and think how it changes you (studying, I mean)

I really hope that the post will help you. Sorry for my mistakes: English is not my mother-tongue. And don’t copy the material without link to me.
Be free to ask me any questions or tell your stories.

- Daria.

STOP IT!

Stop looking around at what everyone else is doing or has!

So she got accepted to college before you ? So he got the job before anyone else?

OH WELL

You’ll get there soon.

Work at your own pace not others

BECAUSE YOUR YOU, NOT THEM!

It’s ok to be scared that you might not get your life together but trust me it’ll all play out

Just focus on you and work hard on you

If you have to do it all over or differently then go for it

I BELIVE IN YOU!

Why Jaden Smith as the face of LV womenswear is threatening transgender territory
So, it’s been announced that 17-year-old Jaden Smith, son of American actor Will Smith, is to be the new face of Louis Vuitton clothes. To be more specific, the womenswear section. And I didn’t even know they had an old face – clearly I’m out of the fashion loop. But what a great publicity stunt for Louis Vuitton. So many people thought their fashion offerings were confined to handbags – whoever knew that they were actually selling womenswear for men?

Um.

So y’all know that I am up in this conversation, but this might actually be the most loony tunes thing I have EVER read.  EVER.  I do not understand how this “movement” has not already been completely discredited.

I do not understand how anyone who has even the most rudimentary ideas of feminism are not appalled by this.

I do not understand how this is not read by any person with five brains cells as insanely misogynist and woman hating.

Plus this ish:

When you get out of bed in the morning the most important thing you have to do all day is tell the world what your gender is, because from that, everything else flows.  You may think that your job is to be an office supervisor or a stockbroker or police officer but these are all human constructs.  Deep down your real job is to reproduce, and showing other humans your gender is the first step on that path.

This is straight up the definition of sexism.  To reduce life to telling the world your gender so you can have babies.  That is straight up what women have fought for millenia.  And this is what this jackalope is calling liberation.  Do you see how this sort of “activism” is incompatible with feminism?

I just cannot.

Oh for fuck’s sake.  I can’t find a video of the initial conversation with Cullen in Origins where they don’t pick the flirt options.  Yes, yes, he stutters and runs away, very funny.  What I want is his answer to ‘I thought all templars liked killing mages’.  Though I do think “I serve the Chantry and the Maker, and I will do as I am commanded” is an extremely telling line.

Also it sort of kills me that literally all you have to do is say ‘hello’ to get him to spill that he was chosen as the sword-man for your Harrowing.  I can’t help feeling like he’s really struggling with that, probably intensely–the first time he’s ever been asked to potentially kill someone, and he knew it was part of the job but now, here he is, 18, 19 tops, and they’ve (probably deliberately) asked him to be prepared to kill the person he has a crush on. And you’re arguably the last person he should be telling that to but he feels guilty and doesn’t know how to cope and quite possibly doesn’t feel like he can talk to anyone about that.  Because he’s not supposed to feel that way (doubly if he likes you) and you have to think he knows a lot of the other templars wouldn’t sympathize, or at the minimum wouldn’t admit it.

Anyhow so that’s, you know, a nice chunk of how you make orphans and second sons and farmers’ kids into callous abusive assholes.  Force them to do awful things, invalidate their emotional responses, rinse and repeat.

So that got out of control, but if anyone knows of a more complete video or dialogue chart of that first conversation I’d be very interested.

The next Reminiscence page is coming out THIS SATURDAY (11/26/2016) but you can see the finished page RIGHT NOW over on my Patreon by becoming a Patreon supporter for as little as a $1 a month!  Each and every donation supports my artwork and makes it possible for this comic to continue so please consider checking out my Patreon page and the rewards you can receive for a donation.

For your support you will not only get to see this page and future comic pages early but you will get to see sketches, projects developing, Patreon only videos and other content. If you cannot afford it don’t worry I completely understand and the new page will be out for you on SATURDAY, but if you really are considering it or are already supporting my patreon I thank you. I do not have a job outside of making art for all of you to enjoy (which is what I love doing) so every donation means the world to me and allows me to keep working on projects like this.

Entitled People

Honestly, I’ve dealt with too many (Usually elderly) people complaining to me that their email said they got a free pastry/drink/whatever, but their rewards account doesn’t show it. Then, they want to sit and argue with me about how I can’t do my job and that I don’t know what I’m doing. At this point, I just have a manager come comp it off, so they’ll stop holding the line. And then they seem confused when I’m not nice and smiley? Like, you just insulted me. You’re getting your change, your food, and that’s it. You lost the smile when you acted like a brat.

How to Talk to Your Adviser

Sending emails is gross. Cold-contacting someone to ask for a favor is gross. Asking for help - gross. The thing is, when you’re in college and you need help, you need to do all of those things. Recently, a friend basically had heart palpitations over contacting their adviser about grad school stuff, and while understandable, it isn’t necessary! Advisers in general should not be terrifying people. They are literally getting paid to help you out.

Be calm. I promise you, advisers are not scary. If your adviser is genuinely bad at their job, request a new one! But most advisers know what they’re doing, and honestly most people like to help others out. So take a deep breathe and write that email.

Be polite. Address your adviser as “Dr.,” if they have a doctorate, “Professor,” if they’re faculty but don’t have a doctorate, or “Mr./Ms.” if they are neither. If you don’t know, “Professor” is a safe bet. Use good grammar and email-writing technique.

Be clear. What, exactly, is your question? If your question is that you don’t know what questions you should be asking, say so! The more you can give your adviser to work with, the better they’ll be able to help you.

If you want a meeting, ask for their availability. Don’t include a paragraph of your own availability unless they request it. It’s more polite to work around when they are available, as it’s likely they have at least as many, if not more, claims to their time as you have.

Have someone else hit send if necessary. Once the email is written, JUST SEND IT. Hit the send key with a stick, or ask someone else to do it, or whatever. I promise you that emails get easier as you keep going.

There, you’ve contacted your adviser. Good job!!

why cant people just let others enjoy things

Mads about his family and plans for this Christmas:

- And what do people see [in your eyes]?
Mikkelsen: “A father for whom nothing is more important in life than his family. This is my most important role.”
- Are you a cool father for your children at the age of 51?
Mikkelsen: “I hope so! The role in Star Wars helps me a bit to be the cool dad. Although I am still more childish than my own kids in many ways. I’m lucky I never had to grow up.”
- How do you get the balance between your job and your family?
Mikkelsen: “I have the feeling that I am new every day to deal with this situation. I am very keen to be at home for a months and take care of the family. But it is certainly not easy.”
- Your family still lives in Denmark, why not in Hollywood?
Mikkelsen: “My films including large Hollywood productions are often filmed in countries like Germany, Romania or Poland. We used to live in Canada for a year because I did "Hannibal” there. But the kids wanted to go back to Denmark, and Copenhagen is a great base for us.“
- How will you spend the Christmas holiday?
Mikkelsen: "We celebrate it at home. And then we go to skiing in Austria.”

Just in case you needed to hear it today...

Breastfeeding is HARD.

And it’s a sacrifice.

And it’s personal.

And sometimes, it’s not for everyone.

I wish every person could have the breastfeeding journey they want. And if that journey is to not do it all, I wish for them to have no anxiety or guilt over it.

I want every person to know that they are never alone in these trenches. There is so much help, support and information out there. Don’t listen to negative Nancy’s. Don’t listen to the Sanctimommys of the internet. Find tried and true professionals who get you, your personality and what it is you’re hoping to find in your journey.

Believe in yourself.

And remember that, no matter what happens, you are doing a great job and you are a wonderful mother.

You know when you picture that huge crush you have and everything between you two going right? Don’t stop right there. Go a little further. You get married, you have (or you don’t, which is ok too) kids, you get the house, you get the job, you grow old together… And then what? Do you see? Do you realize that then it’s over? Life is over. That part when everything goes right and nothing else could happen? That’s the end.
What I’m saying is that life is not making your series of wishes come true, life is the path you take to get there.
Don’t rush. People are born, people are raised, people grow, people live their lives, and people die. You’re no exception. No one is an exception. Time WILL pass, and things WILL happen. So you might as well enjoy every single one of them. That’s all we’ve got, you know?

Moral dilemma:

You have just been made the Minister for Education, it is your first day on the job when you are presented with a long term study that concluded:

*girls do better in all girl schools

but

*boys do better in mixed schools

You are given the opportunity to separate all school aged children into single sexed schools, the only problem is that girls are already outshining their male counterparts in every subject, consistently.

Do you split the children to benefit the girls, or do you leave things as they are and try to improve the performance of male pupils within a mixed sex environment, without addressing the findings of the study?

Why did you come to your conclusion?

Please spread this, I want to see what people would do given this choice.

How and where do you get so many ARCs?! I want in on the action! I get one here and there at my book store job and i sign up for goodreads giveaways all the time & never win what in the world is your secret?!

I get them at work. We get a few boxes of arcs every month and I pick out the ones I want bc most of my coworkers don’t read the same genres as I do.

if I want a specific one, we have reps for our store that I can email. Idk if big name bookstores have reps or not but if they do, you can request books that way.

Also if you sign up for Netgalley as a bookseller you will almost always be approved.

I’ve only gotten a few books as a blogger though.
