what are peoples thoughts

I really do believe that at least part of the problem of people distrusting science has to do with how we as scientists portray ourselves.

We have actively created a system where we derive authority from being seen as better/smarter/more competent than everyone else and then when people ask why they should trust us we respond with a very condescending version of ‘because SCIENCE IS FACT’ or something along those lines.

Like, consider how that would feel from the outside? Here are a small group of people who you have never met/interacted with who sequester themselves in impenetrable ~elite institutions that you can’t access and don’t feel party to who then tell you that what they say is fact because they’re smarter and better educated than you. And if you ever try to question them (no matter how reasonable your objections may be/seem to you) they condescendingly pat you on the head and say something like ‘don’t worry we know better. you can’t possibly understand what we do.’

Why the hell would you trust them?

No one likes being told that they’re not smart enough to understand something, and no one likes feeling excluded from something they’ve essentially been asked to accept sight unseen.

I don’t really have a solution to this, except some vague notion about working harder to portray scientists as people working a job, rather than geniuses who are above it all.

And like trying harder to understand where people are coming from when they question science. And remembering that being better educated than most doesn’t make us smarter than most. It just makes us better trained in certain types of thinking.

I just think we need to keep in mind what we are asking of people. Which is to put a whole hell of a lot of faith in us.

For people struggling to understand what this all means, it just means that Harry’s management company, Full Stop Management, is merging with Irving Azoff’s (a known powerhouse manager in the music industry) company.

Basically, this means that Full Stop just got some real power behind it, in the form of a father aligning with his son.

Larries have been predicting for a LONG ass time that Irving would play a role in a managerial transition for the boys. Right now we have solid confirmation of that for at least Harry. Most of us believe that when One Direction comes back, they will do so under the guidance of Irving and Jeff Azoff.

Just a short sum up, if anyone needs it! ♥️

female awesome meme; 5/10 ladies who deserve better: tris prior (the divergent series)
“sometimes it isn’t fighting that’s brave, it’s facing the death you know is coming”

Honestly the amount of people who think Neil and Matt are dating is probably ridiculous. Then there are those risky people that think Neil, Matt, and Dan are in a polyamorous relationship.

Neil is so confused when someone asks about his boyfriend and he’s like “how did you know Andrew and I are together?”

If Romeo and Juliet had taken it slow nothing at all would have changed. Juliet is aware that they are being too hasty (“Although I enjoy in thee, / I have no joy of this contract tonight. / It is too rash, to unadvised, too sudden. / Too like the lightning which doth cease to be / Ere one can say “it lightens!”) And yet she pops the question only a few lines later, and thank god she did.

If she had actually left Romeo “unsatisfied” in the balcony scene—if she had decided that they should wait before considering marriage, it wouldn’t have changed the fact that Tybalt would have looked for Romeo the next day. Romeo would have been banished anyway, because the tragedy isn’t caused by Romeo and Juliet’s precipitate love: it is caused by the violence, the hatred, and the prejudice of the feud.

A slower development of their relationship wouldn’t have saved Romeo from banishment. And a slower development of their relationship wouldn’t have changed the fact that Capulet sold Juliet to Paris. She would have had to marry him anyway. The only difference would have been that if she weren’t married to Romeo, but still in love with him, I doubt that Friar Laurence would have agreed to help her escape. Why bother breaking the rules, hurting Juliet’s parents by faking her death, just because Juliet didn’t feel like doing her duty? She would have had only two options left: either unwanted marriage or death. Looking at her words right after meeting Romeo, she seems determined to choose a husband on her own, or otherwise she will have none of it. (“If he be married, my grave is like to be my wedding bed.”)

And if they just hadn’t fallen in love at all, I believe it would have been the same: Romeo would have been banished and, without Juliet’s help, I doubt he would have survived long. He’s just not good at coping with pain and oppression—he needs affection. He needs people to take care of him. I think he would have ended up killing himself anyway, because he is terrified by the concept of isolation. (Or perhaps if he had never even attended Capulet’s party, he wouldn’t have had to fight Tybalt the day after. Perhaps he could have survived for a while—but how long? Look at Benvolio. He ended up unwillingly fighting Tybalt in the first scene. How long would it have taken for Romeo to take part in a fight? I think the point of the play is that they just can’t elude the feud, no matter how hard they try: it drags everyone down sooner or later.)

And if they hadn’t fallen in love at all, Juliet would have never become the powerful, intelligent, lively girl we know. She would have been this docile daughter who allows her parents to command her life: “I’ll look to like, if looking liking move, / But no more deep will I endart mine eye / Than your consent gives strength to make it fly.” Now compare those lines with the way she speaks in the balcony scene. (“Bondage is hoarse, and may not speak aloud, / Else would I tear the cave where Echo lies / And make her airy tongue more hoarse than mine / With repetition of ‘my Romeo!’”, “My bounty is as boundless as the sea, / My love as deep; the more I give to thee / The more I have, for both are infinite.”) She feels limitless. She feels free. But looking at Paris’ attitude in the friar’s cell, I think she would have been very miserable had she ended up marrying him. He just couldn’t care less about her feelings and opinions.

Yes, Romeo and Juliet behaved hastily, and I’m glad they did, because at least they could be happy and free for just a few days before the despotism of their society devoured them.

I drew this as a print for SLO in Beijing (although I can’t be there *SADFACE*). Merry Christmas!

  • V: Luciel, I think there's someone suspicious outside my house..
  • Seven: What?! What are they doing??
  • V: I am not sure. I can only see something yellow-ish..
  • Seven: ???
  • Yoosung: [outside V's house banging pots and pans with a huge signboard - 'V SUCKS AND I HATE HIM!']
things about my "natasha, pierre, and the great comet of 1812" experience

-before the prologue, the main cast (minus josh, denee, and nicholas) came out and danced around saying hi to people

-THE PROLOGUE, everybody came up and around the aisles (i had an aisle seat). one of the ensemble dudes came up real close and sang right next to me -pierre raises his fist at the end of “pierre”. and when he sings “i’m different from you”, he doesn’t cry it out, and says kinda said it softly

-during Moscow, denee and brittain were teasing around and making fun if marya’s entrance my bowing around and giggling when they said each other’s name

-during Moscow, Marya literally waves off Sonya’s intro; they also keep in the squeak

-during “the private and intimate life of the house”, when bolkonski says “powdered wig”, he kinda slaps the wig, and powder flies up around him from it

-also in “tpailofh”, mary is basically crying the entire time. when she sings wondering if she’ll ever be anyone’s wife, she pulls up someone from the stage chair, and kinda shows him off to her father. and when bolkonski is looking for some “young french thing”, he too finds someone from the audience and kisses them all sloppily

-during “natasha and bolkonskis”, gelsey and denee take stools from the side of the stage and manuever them into a table around people and pretend to be kind to each other

-during “no one else”, denee didn’t sing as sharp as she does on the soundtrack, she sang it a lot softer and solemn. i cried at the “you and i"s. she’s bathed in blue “moonlight” the entire time.

-when denee says “and flying away…like this,” she seems to lift herself up and somehow float down to the next step all gracefully

-after pierre says “no i am enjoying myself at home this evening” in the opera, he fistbumps the air like he did in “pierre”

-the opera scene is absolutely terrifying. someone in a black cape came down the aisle and scared the shit out of me

-also, after the main opera scene ends, everything is frozen and denee and brittain are up center stage, and denee jaw is open in awe

-when anatole walked in and stopped, he snapped his head with each beat, and then started walking down the stairs. he also kissed a woman’s cheek as he passed.

-when dolokhov starts saying “drink, drink” he has glasses on a tray and a bottle, and he spins the tray and just pours the drinks and it looks pretty cool

-during the duel, the fucking strobe lights are so intense, it was hard to see and it was fucking awesome, and a bunch of the ensemble laid down in the aisle. they were all wearing glow sticks and stuff like that

-when pierre says “i used to love, i used to love, i used to be better”, he walks across the front mezzanine aisle, and i freaked out because josh was so close

-when helene says “he will kill you stupid husband”, she cries it out loudly and its kinda sad and intense

-dust and ashes is absolutely beautiful

-during “sunday morning”, when denee talks about how she sees a man in shadow, pierre is directly behind her in shadow

-anatole sits on the piano during “the ball”. the ensemble dancers go around between the front and rear mezzanines. and girls/girls dance with each other and boys/boys dance together. and most of the ensemble have metallic animal heads on and it looks pretty cool

-during “letters”, the ensemble passes out letters to some of the audience, and then they just sit down where they are. one of the ensemble members tried to give one to a lady and she didn’t take it so he just gave it to the lady next to her

-also during letters, natasha and pierre sing “i see nothing but the candle in the mirror, no visions of the future, so lost and alone” and they stare at each other the whole time, and i died

-when anatole says "just say yes…” before the last one, because natasha hasn’t answered yet, he does that impatient and “c'mon” motion with his hands

-the “whoa, whoah, whoah” that anatole does at the end of “balaga” was fantastic (i didn’t see lucas, it was josh canfield, and he was so good)

-the fucking abduction scene, so much better than the tony performance, it was so intense, the whole cast was there, it was awesome

-denee smashed the painting over balaga’s head again, but she was somehow cuter than the tony awards, which i didn’t think was possible

-marya and helene made out

-when anatole tells everyone to sit down, we could hear him whisper “here, here, scooch over” as he sat down next to one of the ladies on the stage

-when josh began his verse in “the abduction”, everyone paused, and he just chuckled before he continued

-when marya caught anatole coming in, the stage turned red, and she came through the big door at the top of the stage

-denee’s “don’t touch me”s were heartwrenching

-during “pierre and anatole”, pierre knocks over the fucking chair in anger, and knocks a bunch of books off his desk as he shakes anatole. then, towards the end, anatole, like a child, swipes all the rest of the papers off his desk.

-after natasha drinks the poison, she screams in pain several times and runs for sonya, and it’s absolutely gut wrenching.

-during “pierre and natasha”, pierre is sort of following behind natasha as he says “open your heart to someone, not now but when your mind is clear, think of me…” and natasha turns around suddenly, and natasha and pierre are standing face to face really close,  and pierre says “pierre grew confused” pretty softly because it’s WHEN HE REALIZES THAT HE LOVES NATASHA

-denee’s cries were so fucking sad

-during the spoken bit in “pierre and natasha”, his voice broke when he said he wasn’t free, and he just barely whispered that he offered her his love (someone’s phone went off TWICE during this song and i wanted to kill them, i was so angry)

-in the final song, pierre is not fully illuminated under the comet, he is just barely illuminated by the light emitting from the comet. it looks like he’s outside. and he sang so softly.

+

-when she was getting passionate, denee would have a wide stance and kind lean forward, kinda like wonder woman’s stance minus the arms

-pierre followed denee a lot during her scenes when he was in the orchestra pit

Hey Persona 5 fandom

I’ve gotten wind that there might be some Akeshu/Goro fans being harassed at cons and let me just say

DO NOT DO THIS. IT IS, AT BEST, EXTREMELY IMPOLITE AND AT WORST, MAKES YOU AN ASSHOLE.

It doesn’t matter if you don’t like the ship or you don’t like Goro, it gives you absolutely no right to approach real people who are doing no harm to anyone and give them a hard time.

It’s one thing to discuss a character’s shortcomings online. It’s a totally different thing to be a dick to a real person who is really just DRESSING UP or making a living and simply SELLING PRINTS.

Learn to separate fiction and reality and get your head back in the right place. And for anyone else, if possible please speak up if you see this kind of stuff going on. No one deserves this.

Thank you so much to everyone who contributed to the phenomenally fast funding of @yurionicetarotproject!!! You can still back it to help us reach stretch goals, but we’re fully funded!

You all gladly accepted the card offered, and just like The Fool, we all embarked on an enlightening journey at the beginning of March… And here we are, approaching the end! I’ve met a lot of really cool people, connected with an online community for the first time, and evolved in my drawing skills in the short span of 3-4 months and I’m still in disbelief (GUYS. I took part in 2 theme weeks without any pre-drawing because this project kicked off such hype)!

Thank you 100000 times over and I hope you all enjoy the end products! For those who didn’t get to back the Kickstarter, then I hope you get the decks/merch you wished for when we sell the leftovers! This was the best first zine/fan project experience I could have ever wished for and I’m so glad I got over my nerves and pessimism to apply!

Anders’ Darktown Clinic was to help the refugees, yes, to heal the poor that couldn’t afford to go to the Chantry or a healer on their own.

It was also to show both the city of Kirkwall and common people that has had no other exposure to magic except for the Chantry’s scary stories, that the magic could be a force of good in the world. It can heal people and save them from death.

It wasn’t just a clinic, it was a statement.
