what are people even calling this ship

This might come as a surprise but it’s ok to not like a ship, or even hate it viciously for no real reason. You don’t need to come up with reasons why it’s morally inferior to what you like, or call anyone who likes it a criminal or anything like it. Not everything you hate is “evil”, sometimes you just plain don’t like a thing and that’s ok

Harry Potter and the Neural Network fan fiction

Or, what happens if you train a neural network on the titles and plot summaries of over 100,000 works of Harry Potter fan fiction.

In the decades since the Harry Potter books were published, fans have written literally hundreds of thousands of Harry Potter stories of their own, and shared them online. Can a neural network join in on the fun?

In a way, everything a recurrent neural network writes is fan fiction. A recurrent neural network looks at an example dataset (such as the complete Sherlock Holmes stories) and teaches itself the patterns and conventions that it sees. So, if it’s given Sherlock Holmes stories, it will become obsessed with Holmes and Watson, and if it’s given knock-knock jokes, it will spend all day telling awful knock-knock jokes of its own.

Thanks to an idea by a couple of readers, some heroic work by @b8horpet in scraping (with permission) hundreds of thousands of Harry Potter fan fiction titles and summaries from AO3, and a flexible new recurrent neural network implementation by Chen Liang, the neural network’s latest obsession is Harry Potter.

The Perfect Party by iamisaac
Draco has been left alone, and Ginny confused must learn and who has his best friend. They were breathed by a love that didn’t become his grounds and the flowers begin.

This is a typical example of the neural network’s fan fiction - romantic pairings of two or more Harry Potter characters (called “ships” in fan fiction-speak). In this case, it even has chosen a plausible author: iamisaac is a real and fairly prolific fan fiction author whose works do tend to be of the “romantic” variety.

Again, “perverse_idyll” and “TheHexFiles_archivist” are fairly active authors. (Hi, if you’re reading! The neural network seems to like your writing, and is writing fan fiction of your fan fiction!) Those familiar with Harry Potter fan fiction will not be surprised to learn that the neural network really likes to generate ships; pretty much every combination of characters is represented (some of the more unusual combinations being “The Snow/Voldemort”, “The Ministry/Draco Malfoy”, and “Voldemort/Random Quidditch Child”).

By turning down the neural network’s creativity setting to near-zero, we arrive at its vision of what the quintessential Harry Potter fan fiction would be like - and we also learn its favorite ship:

Persuading by theladyblack
Harry and Draco are still a second chance at the end of the war.  Will they be able to do with the fairy tale of the first time they were a strange stranger to the street of the war and the war is over?

It turns out the neural network is obsessed with Harry/Draco, although in a pinch, Sirius/Remus will also do.

The neural network also seems to really like stories about Professor Snape trying to do rather ordinary things:

Snape is a British Robes of interesting things and worrys like a little fun and sees the pretty battle for a while.

Another thing that happened, which is pretty much my favorite thing ever, is that the neural network apparently encountered some fan fiction stories that were not in English. As a result, it learned to do this from time to time:

The neural network has also learned to employ capital letters:

And the neural network occasionally uses content warnings, although it seems to have a rather fuzzy idea about what to warn its readers about:

How Do People NOT Multiship?

Seriously I don’t get it. Just looking at Voltron for example here, you’ve got

-Klance, your hate ship, that red and blue, the gay losers who pretend to hate each other but would be very upset if something happened to the other
–Sheith, with all its history and possibilities for angst and comfort
-Kidge, your dumb conspiracy theorists who have no idea what they’re doing in a relationship but they’re trying their best
-Heith, your cinnamon roll lovers
-Kallura, your space power couple and also the way to spite people just for fun
-Shance, your sweet little angel falling for space daddy and it could be unrequited if you like to suffer and I mean Lance called Shiro his fucking hero like can you not
-Pidgance, Punk and Hance, your friends to lovers ships
-Allurance, for crush nerds and could again be unrequited if you’re masochistic
-Shidge, with their adorable and lame support that makes me cry
-Shunk, which is just an even purer cinnamon roll ship
-Shallura, for all your space parent needs
-Pallura, because lesbians are beautiful
-Hallura, the team mom ship
-Shatt, more angst opportunities and the best name

And then there’s your poly ships

-Shklance, where Shiro’s the only sane one and keeping them alive
-Klunk, Kidgance and both at the same time, the purest of friends to lovers poly ships
-Shallurance, which is perfect for Lance angst if you like people feeling like an add on and less important when really they’re just as loved
-Shalluridge, which I can’t even describe how great it is
- Shalluratt, which I don’t actually ship but I get it

Then again maybe is just me I join a fandom and I either ship everything or don’t even ship the Canon there is no in between for me.

You’re on a massive spaceship with what’s left of humanity. It’s the only ship, what’s on the ship is all you have. There are no humans left except for the few thousand people on board.

There are a few Star Trek-style replicators throughout the ship. These produce food, clothing, medicine – all material needs. In order to produce enough for everyone to live comfortably, they require a few hundred people to use stationary bikes for a few hours each week to generate the required energy.

Paradise, right? Enough people are more than happy to spend some time helping the community meet its needs, and many just enjoy the exercise, so there shouldn’t be any problem getting those replicators running!

The trouble is, immediately after boarding the ship, a few people camped out by the replicators and claimed them as their own. Using the resources from the replicators, they have bribed some people to guard them and “their” replicator and beat up anyone who tries to use them.

Now that these people have total access to the replicators, they have total power over who gets food, water, medicine, etc. They demand that everyone on the ship use the bikes every day, all day, or they will not be allowed to eat or drink. (The exception is their enforcers, who are rewarded with more resources for keeping the population in line in a variety of ways.)

Overworking everyone else produces enough energy for the replicator-hoggers to live like kings. They order up luxuries for themselves from the replicators, and eat and drink when and whatever they want. They order up food and throw it away when they decide they don’t want it. Huge piles of objects go unused in their quarters.

They make rules for how everyone else on the ship has to live, under threat of violence from their enforcers. People who can’t or won’t spend all day using the bikes are deliberately allowed to die from hunger and thirst, and the resource-hoarders say it’s because life must be earned.

The resource-hoarders allow the ship to fall into disrepair, and even throw wild parties and break things. Engineers beg to be allowed to effect repairs, but the resource-hoarders refuse, even when warned that in a few years the ship will break down completely and no one will survive. They call the engineers liars and conspirators.

And people just… sort of get used to it. They rationalize it, they say that the resource hoarders work hardest of all because they decide who gets what and when. Even though there are thousands more being forced to work than there are resource hoarders or their enforcers, people are afraid, or don’t want to think about it, or they justify it, or they dream of the day when they can work their way up the ranks of the enforcers and hog resources too.

And, I mean, it’s not human nature to hoard resources. Most people share their rations and help each other survive as best they can. It’s literally like eight jerks just camping out by the replicators surrounded by guards they bribe with the fruits of everyone else’s work.

But we let them do it. And the idea that we shouldn’t is considered wacky and fringe.

"Captain Amelia is one of the most feminist characters of all time" by Matthew S. Robinson

I’ve decided tumblr does not appreciate Captain Amelia from the underrated Disney film “Treasure Planet”

I mean seriously think about how awesome this character is just removing all bias of how you felt about the movie as a whole her being a woman or her being a man, human, cat humanoid, space alien whatever this is a totally awesome character who has one of the most intense and just flat out magnificent character introductions in animated film…

Okay now let’s add on the other layer she is a woman and in fact one of the only women in the entire film. She’s arguably the most tough out of all the active characters, one of the most intelligent who proves to be not only a physical match for most of the crew but also is an intellectual match with Doppler (the assumed smartest character) as she knows just about as much about astrophysics as he does. And she does it like it’s a Tuesday.

She’s clearly a character used to taking crap for being a woman she makes a point to tell Hawkins to call her either Captain or Ma'am which is clearly more a test to gauge his respect level than a pronouncement of her ego. When Hawkins calls her Ma'am she coldly replies “That will do.” So she doesn’t even get bogged down on it, she’s got a ship to run. And when that ship comes under attack she’s already ready to throw down.

So okay she’s a tough and fearless leader with grade A intelligence but that’s just one aspect of what makes her a great female character. Sometimes people (including myself) complain that tough female characters either have to be over sexualized or their sexuality is totally removed. But Amelia manages to never have a “sexy scene” and still never loses charm or sexuality. They never overplay her femininity over her position but make sure that she represents a woman who can lead men but still be very much a lady.

What’s more after she and Doppler form a relationship they both manage to make their feelings known without it enveloping her character and removing what made her unique. Then after all of that she still manages to; get married, have kids and keep her job (possibly even be promoted to Admiral by that point)

In closing Captain Amelia is 100% Certified Bad Ass

anonymous asked:

Wait what happened with supergirl? Never really watched it but as usual theres chaos. I know theres an lgbt couple there did they die or something soph?

Well there’s two LGBTQ+ pairing in the show, one is canon “Sanvers” (Alex Danvers + Maggie Sawyer) and one is non canon “Supercorp” (Kara Danvers aka Supergirl + Lena Luthor)

This week-end was the Comic con and during an interview a member of the cast was asked to make a singing recap of the season, but while singing that recap he isolated the Supercorp ship and sang the words “They’re only friends! They’re never gonna get together!” while laughing hysterically, a majority of the cast present there laughed with him, including Melissa Benoist who plays one half of Supercorp - basically mocking the ship.

Songs starts at 1:30

Later in the interview Katie McGrath who plays the other half of Supercorp tried to defend the ship (7:15) but she was rudely interrupted, which pissed everyone off even more.

Now what those actors don’t understand is that an LGBTQ+ fandom, whether their pairing is canon or not, is always gonna be a very sensitive and vulnerable fandom. Because there are so little representations of the community, those ships are extremely important (you can include Camren there), and a LOT of fans felt attacked and ridiculed by the “joke” that this actor made.

After that things escalated quickly, the actor in question, Jeremy Jordan, send out a message to apologize but basically didn’t, he made it about him and not about what the real issue was,

He later understood his mistake and send another message :

Also a few tweets - I think he got it

Other members of the cast also responded, using the basic “I can’t be homophobe, I worked in theater, I have gay friends, the show has a canon gay ship…” etc - trying to defend their behavior.

Then a fan (https://chloeniccole.tumblr.com) send an fucking incredible email to Melissa’s rep to explain why the fandom was so upset and what an important thing shipping is for the community

To which they responded, completely missing the whole point 😒😒😒

Hi Chloe,
Thank you for your email.
As someone who was present in the room yesterday during the impromptu, musical recap of S2 during MTV’s live stream with the cast of SUPERGIRL, I can speak as a voice of reason and with objectivity as this situation requires.  It’s entirely up to you to accept or deny the following…
I will not undermine your feelings or those of anyone who took issue with what you’ve perceived to be offensive.  However, as an activist, it’s very important that you take a step back before inflicting public scorn.  As a role model, it’s incumbent upon you to shape your understanding and engage in meaningful and respectful dialogue based on fact and motivation, and not just on whether your feelings were bruised.
You cannot fairly denounce Melissa or Jeremy or the cast for what they DIDN’T say. You cannot fairly characterize their verbiage or actions as “aggressive,” on the contrary.  They were having fun in a riff session and hardly at the expense of the LGBT community. You cannot fairly assume or rationalize why David Harewood or Katie McGraff didn’t participate so to substantiate your argument.  To enter into a sensitive debate, you have to be really careful about making baseless claims based solely on emotion.
Chloe:  neither Melissa or Jeremy or any of the cast members marginalized any individual, regardless of orientation, by saying “Kara and Lena” are just friends. They didn’t say “can’t be friends” or “shouldn’t be friends” OR remotely imply that “two female characters would never see each other in a romantic light in their whole lives.”  Then you take it one step further to accuse them of declaring “the incomprehensibility of a woman loving another woman” and “blatantly made a mockery of non-heterosexual women.”  It’s wholly irresponsible to publicly admonish anyone, as you have on your social media platforms, and I mean anyone, for such a broad and unsubstantiated interpretation of the S2 recap.
That, Chloe, is actually the definition of defamation.
Allow me to also clarify for you that other than Melissa who MTV brass placed next to host Josh Horowitz, the cast seated themselves. As did all 13 casts of films and television shows that I guided through MTV.  Unless David and Katie said they felt “isolated” in their positions in the back, I would recommend you walk back these statements as well.
There are gross injustices globally of the LGBT community. This was not one of those occasions. You may feel slighted because the creatives behind the SG series didn’t lead the Kara-Lena relationship in a direction that would have made you happy and proud in S2. You cannot therefore accuse them of being anti-gay.  If Josh Horowitz instead engaged in a serious Q&A with the cast as to why they didn’t take that path and Melissa, Jeremy and the cast responded “Kara cannot be in a relationship with Lena because she’s SUPERGIRL” then I invite you to protest loudly and with far more aggression and passion than what you perceived from the cast yesterday.
You’ve indicted people who are genuine ambassadors of acceptance, compassion and equality and have proven as much, not on only Glee but on SUPERGIRL and in their own personal lives.
As you continue your mission to right the wrongs in society and especially those inflicted on the LGBT community, I highly recommend you postulate your arguments soundly.
Thank you Chloe for reaching out.
Kindly,”

And now apparently Melissa’s team is threatening to sue her for defamation…

Also other people who are in the LGBTQ+ tv-show horizon responded to the whole thing - Kaitlyn Alexander from Carmilla

And Emily Andras who’s the showrunner of Wynonna Earp

Anyways this whole thing has just reached the medias, so I think we’re gonna be hearing about this for a little while.

The issue here is a very common one unfortunately - public figures just don’t take the time to think and educate themselves - even if it doesn’t look like it, this is homophobia, a very latent, unintentional, type of homophobia, but still homophobia.

It might seem silly and taken out of proportion, but the community has been shut down and mistreated for so many years by the television industry that now even the smallest thing matters. Those ships have such a huge impact on people’s lives, it’s important, and it has taken fucking years for showrunners to understand that, and some still haven’t caught up #fuckyoujasonrothenberg. Showrunners like Emily Andras and a cast like the one of Wynonna Earp are what this community needs - people who take the time to educate themselves, learn from other’s mistakes and most importantly listen and respect the fans. Because at the end of the day the fans are the ones calling the shots, I know for a fact that a majority of the fandom would stop watching Supergirl right now if it weren’t for the Sanvers storyline. The LGBTQ+ community is one of the most loyal source of fans a show and an actor can have, we’re the fucking bomb, we get shit done and we love and ship harder than any other fans, but if you betray us or disrespect us, there’s no coming back, and we will fucking roast you.

So I saw this letter in TLD and noticed that the address on it was not 221 B Baker Street. So I looked at it.

S. Holmes

156 Montague St.

London

Okay. So I looked it up and clicked on google street view. Guess where.

That’s the street that Sherlock was imagining when imagining “““Faith Smith”““’s flat. I’d call that an Easter egg.

BUT WHY WAS HIS MAIL GOING THERE AND HOW DOES HE HAVE IT

DID I DO IT MOFTISS?? DID I FIND SOMETHING???

UPDATE: Just to be clear, this is only meant to be a fun find… not evidence of a certain ship or having anything to do with what people are calling queerbaiting.. and as a side note I wholeheartedly ship sherlolly. Seems some are even getting mad at me for not knowing that it was Sherlock’s old address, when that really doesn’t change much about what I said before and I don’t understand why it would inflict a negative response anyway. Again, just an Easter egg, most likely… if everyone could relax a little that would be great. All the best xx

UPDATE 2: Please stop reblogging this. It was just meant to be for fun, but it’s not fun anymore.

The problems with being in rare pair hell

  • Being so obsessed with a ship but there’s barely any content so you either have to suffer in silence or make content yourself
  • 99.9% of the people in the fandom don’t ship it or don’t even know what you’re talking about
  • “HELP I NEED FANFICTION-”
  • “These two were made for each other why does nobody ship them”
  • Looking for fanfiction of it on FanFiction.Net and only finding somewhere between 1-6 stories.
  • Virtually no fan art
It is your story and we need to respect that.

This is for all those creators, animators, voice actors and everyone involved with the making of a story that is a show, a book, a comic book, a manga and/or a movie (to name a few)…

Recently, someone took pictures while on a tour in Studio Mir. those pictures belong to DreamWorks and the Voltron Legendary Defender creators. After the poor person, posted them, they went viral within the VLD Community. Soon, they were  being contacted by Studio Mir to take those pictures down, due to legal reasons involving DreamWorks.

And this person did their best. Never in my lifetime have i seen so many people coming together to delete all those pictures from tumblr, twitter instagram etc….

And we got victory.

But of course the victory was short lived.

It started with one person. A person who, claimed they loved the romantic ship of Keith and Lance from Voltron Legendary Defender, and kept on posting those pictures all the while saying to Studio Mir,  ‘I won’t take them down unless you confirm Klance Canon’.

(i.e the ‘ship’ name of Keith and Lance.)

People started to say so many things about this person as in:

“They hate Klance and are making us shippers look bad!”

or: “They aren’t even in the Voltron fandom, they are just here being a troll (aka, nuisance)!”

To be honest, it doesn’t matter who they ship, why they did this or if they even are in the fandom. What matters here most is 1) all the people who have planned out the story of VLD and who are now, getting either, discouraged by how these so called ‘fans’ are acting or are rolling their eyes at us. And 2) The consequences Studio Mir can face due to this once small accident.

And with this one idea from that person ‘blackmailing’ Studio Mir, came copycats. Around thirty other people or so are doing the same. ‘Blackmailing’.  All claiming they just want LGBTQ representation in a very successful show like VLD but not knowing they are jeopardizing the chances of ever getting that in this and possibly many other shows.

Now, onto the show itself.

I fell for Voltron Legendary Defenders because of how it just isn’t a kids show to me. Its very well made, humorous to all ages and all in all one of the best reboots i have seen in awhile (my 32 year old Brother agrees to this too.)

But, again, as someone who too, ships Klance i have never felt more ashamed?

A lot of people who ship LGBTQ relationships in shows and books that aren’t canon are seen as ‘Fetishizing’ these characters.

The romantic relationship of two men or two women or all of the above, should never be considered a fetish. Because it is now the real world. Romance is real and for people to fetishize that, is sick and saddening.

I personally, love the dynamic of Klance. But, i also love and adore the dynamic of Klance not being romantic. Them becoming best friends is more than any person in this fandom could ask for.

To even enter into a romantic relationship, people NEED to become the best of friends first. It’s common sense.

Now, i know the panel for VLD is coming up (?), and whether or not they address this isn’t our business but, what is and will always be our business is how we react.

Our actions speak louder than words.

If Lauren Montgomery and Joaquim Dos Santos, walk onto that stage and say, “Keith and Lance will never enter into a romantic relationship.” it is OUR jobs to know that this wasn’t because of some person on the internet that this was probably true from the start.

But, if they say, “Any and all romantic relations that will take place in this show in the future have been decided on our own and without the pressure of you lovely people of the fandom. We make things canon on our own terms and love the continuation of support from the fandom.”

Still if Klance becomes canon, that does not mean you go and praise the people who tried to ‘blackmail’ these people. If Keith and Allura get together you don’t go bashing and hating on those people who tried to ‘blackmail’ the creators. You sit and watch the show and learn to love it not for its ships, characters, design but for it as a whole.

I am sure that whatever happens the VLD team will see that, hey, we (as in the fandom) all are very happy with how they are going with the show. They recognize they can’t simply say “Yes gay will happen”  but they also know that if they happened to plan out romance before this whole ‘blackmail’ thing happened that they have the right to.

All in all, for those people who ship all the romance between characters, or even just LOVE the show as  a whole (all fans should at least) it’s our job to:
1: STAY POSITIVE
2: To remember, ACTIONS SPEAK LOUDER THAN WORDS
And 3: To love the show for what it is.

Sincerely, Nina June.

This honestly connects to what I’m saying about anti tumblr being incredibly destructive and careless with how it addresses pedophilia.

You can’t just make a sideblog and call yourself mabel-against-ddlg or some shit and yell at some random 15 year old because they’re into billdip without even bothering to think about what factored into this and how terrorizing them only causes said 15 year old to gain support from abusive shippers.

I’m all for creating side accounts educating people on the dangers of toxic ships and the romanticization of disgusting relationships but I swear y'all created this unachievable standard where you think kids can just recognize when something’s bad right away and not look from their perspective at all.

The Horror Genre, Goth Subculture, and Friday the 13th

So, there’s already a post about superstitions and bad luck, but what about the people who take negative superstitions and it make their aesthetic?

Like, Planetary Cruiser XJ9-7 - known as “Adventure” - gets a new human crew member, a scientist of the highest order, a particle physicist calculating their engine thrust. Her name is Amber and she is the living embodiment of lace goth, wears a frilly black dresses with skull accessories, carries around a voodoo doll seemingly for the fun of it. She walks into the ship and starts the allowed personalization of her work and sleeping spaces by adding a skull to her workspace, hanging pentacles over her bed, laying crystals on her shelves and ordering them not to be moved, and putting gruesome posters of movie and book monsters over her walls.

The non-humans onboard Adventure are immediately concerned, and the captain consults the ship’s human sociologist, on staff for just such situations.

“Gah'veen,” Kathro'o warbles. Xe drops xerself in the chair-like pedestal that stood in the front of Gavin’s desk. “There have been …. comments about our new engineer.”

“What sort of comments?” Gavin asks. He hasn’t seen the new engineer and knows next to nothing about her except her credentials for the position. But he’s never encountered someone who shook up a crew so badly that there were complains before they even left the port.

“This human appears to worship misfortune and death. She dressed in the garb of mourning when outside her uniform. She placed a replica of a human skull on her workstation. Her quarters are filled with images referencing death and … and … I do not have the word for them, those imaginary predators that stalk humans in your traditional story-telling.”

“Monsters,” Gavin chuckles.

“Monsters! Yes! With mouths wet with human blood, standing over the mangled bodies of their unfortunate prey!”

Gavin snorts in a bad attempt to swallow laughter. “You really don’t have the concept of monsters on Eilu'ublen.”

“Of course not!” Kathro'o shouts, xer warble suddenly loud enough to hurt Gavin’s ears. Xe clicks xer mandibles in a sign of embarrassment before going on at a more reasonable volume. “There is plenty in the galaxy that can kill you in horrible ways. Only humans make up fictitious ones to add to the list.”

“Many humans find it fun,” Gavin answered casually.

“Fun?” Kathro'o face become pinched and sunken - no doubt because the blood was draining from xer face.

“It’s just … how do I put this? Aesthetic. It simply looks interesting to her, I’m sure. Some people even find stuff like that comforting.”

“Her omens and images of misfortune and death are meant to bring emotional comfort?” Kathro'o voice rattles hollowly behind xer chest plate, and xer eyes are tiny pinpoints of red set deep in xer face.

Gavin clears his throat. “Look, captain, I’ll tell the new girl to go easy on the Addams Family stuff until we can pass around some material on goth culture. In the meantime, I’m going to call the infirmary to come get you. You’re in mid-stage shock, and any longer without medical care and there might be long-term damage.”

“I … yes. That sounds … nice. Thanks to you, Gah'veen.”

They have to haul the captain to the infirmary for anti-shock treatment. Xe and the rest of crew give Amber a wide breadth, and she seems to allow that for a while. Then one day she sends Kathro'o back into the infirmary for more shock treatment by passing out treats from each crewmen’s homeland with little culturally appropriate symbols of bad luck om them. Xe’s halfway through a cycle of anti-shock drugs when Amber, in a floor-length black gown trimmed with black lace, and miniature top hat adorned with a tiny skull-and-crossbones, comes sweeping up to his bed and sits down next to him.

“Hello, Captain!” she chirps, and her cheerfulness is as bright as her chosen ensemble is dark. “I came with a gift for you!” She reaches into the black wicker basket hanging off her arm and pulls out a tiny paper bag.

The bag is a dark purple, the same eerie shade that Eilu'ublese’s exoskeletons turn when they die. On the front is Kathro’o’s name - written in careful, almost juvenile, Eilu'ublese - in powder pink lines, xe’s favorite color. Xe looks from the offering to the offeror and back again, then reluctantly reaches out xer hand for it.

Inside the bag is another, smaller, clear plastic bag filled to bursting with ifora, small cookie-like treats that are as delicious – especially to Eilu’ublese – as they are difficult to make. They’re an expensive treat around the galaxy because it takes years of culinary training to make them correctly. They’re Kathro’o single favorite thing to eat.

“How did you …?”

“They were the most expensive thing I bought, but the look on your face right now is well worth the money!” Amber beams.

They sit a while, chatting as Kathro’o finishes his treatments and gets through half the bag of ifora. As they’re walking away from the infirmary, xe finally just asks the question that’s been bothering xer.

“Am’burr. You are a great scientific mind, and very charming, and even I can see how beautiful you are.”

“You think I’m beautiful!?” Amber squeaks and turns red.

“Yes! Of course. But I don’t understand why you surround yourself with omens and death and evil.”

“Oh. The goth thing. Gavin told me it was freaking people out. That’s why I’ve been taking today to explain it. For me, it’s power. I wasn’t well liked in high school; I felt like an outcast. For me, it felt powerful to take my undesirableness and make it an amour. To feel proud of being different and strange instead of being ashamed of it. It felt cool to be badass.”

“I know this human term, “badass.” It evokes the power to control and live in situations and activates that the weaker of your peers could not handle.”

“Exactly. I wasn’t pretty, or popular, or cool. But I was strong, and scary, and not to be messed with. Besides, there is power in taking what scares you and making it something to seek out. It robs that things of its control over you, and lets you control it.”

“I understand. On Eilu'ublen, we have a similar concept called aurceth, meaning thriving on what kills others. Traveling between the stars, living one’s life in a ship jettisoning through the cold hostile blackness, living among people with almost nothing in common with oneself, even their biology, it takes aurceth.”

“Yep. You and me, Kathro’o, we’re badasses.”

“That we are, Am’burr. By the way, why today? Why all the work, the money spent, the effort?”

“I have a clock that tells me the date and time of my hometown, where my parents still live. Back there, it’s a Friday, and the thirteenth day of the month.”

“I have heard of Fur’eyday the 13th! There’s movie based on the lore!”

“Yep. What better day than the unluckiest of them, to make rounds and spread some cheer?!”

Kathro’o laughs deep in xer chest plate, an excited rumble that bounces off the walls of the hallway. “Excellent! Let us spread cheer, on this inauspicious of days so that the bad luck cannot touch us.”

Amber links her arm through xers and grins, and off they go.

After that, Kathro’o and Amber are best friends. Kathro’o is the first Eilu’ublese goth. Xe introduces the concept of monsters and the horror genre to the Eilu’ublese mainstream as his ship gains renown in its travels, and he and his unique Eilu’ublese take on goth culture become more well know. A Terran decade after that first Friday the 13th, Amber and Kathro’o marry on the observation deck of Adventure. They and their entire wedding party wear black with powder pink accents.

Apparently I missed this last night…I know you guys are upset about your ship and we are all disappointed in Marlene for many reasons. BUT telling her to kill herself is completely unacceptable. She’s not the first one to be targeted over “ship wars” on PLL. And the fact that she had to call one fandom out is really appalling.

Lindsey Shaw has been attacked repeatedly in the past, you guys telling her to kill herself over a ship. And you know what she responded with then? “I already tried in December.”

Think about that.

Don’t like paily? I don’t care. Don’t like Paige? I don’t care. Don’t like any ship? I don’t care.

But telling these people to kill themselves? Yeah I care about that

Dating Cassian Andor Would Include
  • Cassian not directly confessing to you
  • In fact, for a good while you didn’t have any inkling of an idea that he even liked you in the first place
    • He chided at you for not shooting straight enough at practice targets and scolded you about being safe whenever you did anything even remotely reckless during a training exercise
    • Wasn’t he like this with everyone else?
      • Actually, apparently not: according to K2, there was just enough recognition of difference in his actions for him to be confident that Cassian did, indeed, have feelings for you
      • This was only furthered by the fact that K2 would catch Cassian glancing at you “57% more than he did with any other person on base.“

Surprise, bitch

So, the process of tracking AO3 output has gotten a lot more time-consuming since the fandom expanded (the amount of new fics per month has tripled!) and I haven’t made a new post in a couple of months, but I’m still here. I may be crying over some of these weird-ass ship combinations y’all come up with, but I will survive.

Here’s where we stand as of the end of January:

If you’re reading this and going “WAIT, THAT DOESN’T MATCH WHAT AO3 SAYS!” then ding ding ding, you are correct.

Millennial Love

Requested by @tomshollandss with this prompt

Summary: Tom stalks your social media and slides into those DMs.

Your multi fandom Twitter account was your own little fangirl haven. The topics you tweeted about ranged from One Direction, Beyoncé, Marvel, Harry Potter, Law & Order, and more. Your hilarious, relatable tweets helped you rack up over 50k loyal followers.

Most recently, Tom Holland had branched from your Marvel obsession, having stolen your heart when you first watched Spider-Man: Homecoming.

“Hey everyone! Just came home from SM:HC, so slowly watch as my Twitter becomes strictly a Tom Holland fan account!” you tweeted.

Your post went viral as many of your followers and the general public agreed with you. Throughout the next weeks, you tweeted frequently about events such as The Brother’s Trust meet and greet, the Tokyo premiere, and the infamous “Hoodiegate” aka Tom’s incessant teasing about his haircut.

You had the typical fangirl tweets, including praising Tom for his work and admiring his looks, but you also had no problem roasting him as well. For example, a thread of examples of when he was an asshole became wildly popular and gained a lot of attention; some of it coming from the boys themselves. Harrison followed and quoted it with a “This could not be more accurate, mate @TomHolland1996”, which prompted Tom to like and retweet it, and Harry liked it, as well.

One day, on a whim, you decided to post your personal Instagram handle. You had no shame about people figuring out who you were; plus, you kept your Instagram clear of locations and clues about where you might live: “Alright here goes nothing! Follow my personal Instagram, @(your-user)! Hopefully none of you are lunatics, and I’ll be following some of you as well!"

Thousands of new followers appeared on Instagram, all incredibly happy about your newly public profile. You decided to turn off notifications to only show you things from users that you followed. It was beneficial that you did, for you would’ve missed it when your phone lit up with an important Instagram notification.

(your-user): tomholland2013 started following you.

Quickly followed by, (your user): tomholland2013: I hope you don’t qualify me as a lunatic 😅

Shocked, you quickly screenshotted this monumental moment. After a few minutes of calming yourself down, you opened Instagram. Hoards of comments and messages of congratulations all came pouring in, but you only were focused on one message.

"Eh, I don’t REALLY know you. So, I can’t say for sure. But, from your pictures you look pretty normal! And you did some movies? That’s cool! I may have seen them 🤔"

You tried to keep it light and funny, as your Twitter was basically a huge Tom Holland roast. "By the way, thanks for following!” you quickly sent, showing your authentic gratitude. Putting your phone down, you went to get some water, as you felt very dizzy.

He probably won’t reply for a while at least, you thought. Or maybe not at all. He’s busy. Except, when you returned to your phone, another message had come onto your screen.

“haha i mean I dont really know you either. Maybe you’re the actual lunatic in this situation?” Another message came in, “but seriously, no problem at all xx. I’ve stalked your twitter so… I feel like this is only right 😂”

"Hope you didn’t find anything too embarrassing. So, does this make us internet friends? 😎"

"Is that what this is called? Let’s do it 👊🏼"

It’s that time of the year!

We all know f/f doesn’t get enough love. Whether it’s because of a lack of canon content, or fandom’s interests lying elsewhere, it usually gets the short end of the stick. Thankfully, February is here to rectify that - and hopefully, one day, we won’t even need the reminder!

So what is Femslash February? It started as open challenge calling on all members of fandom to create at least two fanworks of any sort (fanfic, fanart, fan vids, graphics, fanmixes, etc.) featuring a f/f ship in the month of February. I don’t know if people still follow that rule today, but to me, Femslash February is THE month to celebrate your love for the ladies. And ladies loving ladies. Not that you can’t do that every day of the year, but if you needed a good reason, here’s one!

Since the Dragon Age franchise has, let’s be honest, a whole bunch of badass ladies, and since this blog, and yours truly, have dedicated  themselves to the task of reblogging them all in all their glory, I’m hoping you guys will fill up their tags with new posts, so that I can queue a LOT of content, and provide you with even more lady love!

Now go forth, and spread the love  (ノ◕ヮ◕)ノ*:・☆ ✧.

hey so uh I’ve seen this floating around and just wanted to say

If you’ve reblogged this, fucking unfollow me

I don’t want anything to do with you. You’re a nasty, nasty person. As far as I’m aware, there are two (2) reasons people hate Jieun- because she’s unfriendly, and, in some cases, because she “gets in the way of the yaoiz xP”.

Honestly I can’t believe I’m having to say this, but PEOPLE DON’T DESERVE TO DIE BECAUSE THEY’RE MEAN. PEOPLE DON’T DESERVE TO DIE BECAUSE THEY MAKE IT HARDER FOR YOU TO ROMANTICISE ABUSE.

You know who deserves to die?? The guy who’s murdered, abused (and possibly even sexually assaulted) people, the guy who manipulates everyone around him into believing he’s a good person. Because you know what? I’m pretty sure Sangwoo has done a LOT more horrible things to Bum than Jieun has, and I don’t see many of you calling for /his/ fucking head.

Those who want Jieun dead, those who call her a bitch or a whore, those who “justify” your actions, you’re all transparent as fuck. Killing Stalking isn’t fucking yaoi, and Jieun didn’t get in the way of your disgusting, abusive ship.

Thanks.

I've seen many posts assume that fans of Touka, as well as Touken, cannot explain why kaneki & her relationship is not abusive. They say, she beat him up when he was defenseless (at the start of TG), she beat him up on the bridge, she hit him in re after the Cochlea arc, & now in ch 130 of re. Of course they always seem to fit in the "& on many other occasions" line. Not to mention the emotional and sexual harassment accusations... Could your lovely team prove them wrong & answer the question?

Mod K:

I think it goes back to what you personally define as abuse. I personally do not think that touken is abusive. I think it’s a relationship that has some unhealthy dynamics, but at the end of the day, I think that both of them make each other better based on what I’ve seen from the series. Generally, Touka has her reasons for hitting Kaneki. I’m not going to say that they’re okay - but she has never hit him just because. Usually, when Touka hits Kaneki is meant to be “funny” and goes back to slapstick humor in Japan. There is lots of running gags in Japanese manga and anime of someone hitting another person. Usually, this happens in male/female relationships where the woman is doing the hitting, but there are also comedic gags when a man hits a woman, a woman hits another woman, or a man hits another man.

In Monthly Shoujo Nozaki-kun, there is one particular couple when the guy is always hitting the girl (and the pairing is canon) but it is played as being a funny thing, a gag. Now, you can argue that it’s still bad – but authorial intent is authorial intent and when critiquing these things, you need to think about the cultural norms and comedy that is present in what you are watching. Gags that are acceptable in japanese media are not always the same as those that are present in our media.

While most of the violence from Touka @ Kaneki is slapstick, I will admit that there are a small number of moments when it is not and it meant to be taken seriously.

Now, going back to the original TG, Touka is not initially mean to Kaneki. When she first meets him as a ghoul and drops her kind waitress act, it is when she kills a man who is sexually harassing her. Kaneki justifiably gets scared by this and runs away from her when she offers him a piece of her kill. Touka becomes upset about this.

Touka is 16/17 and has led a difficult, cruel life. Her entire life humans have rejected her for what she was, and Kaneki had just done that as well, after she tries to help him. She is pretty mean when he does come to anteiku after this and refuses to help him because she’s still upset about it.

Then, when they meet again, Touka saves Kaneki from Nishiki and tries to help Kaneki again. He is starving and near mad from hunger, and she tries to feed him. Then, Kaneki freaks out and calls her a monster (not that I blame him) – and this pisses Touka off more and she begins to beat him before she is stopped by Yoshimura.

From that point on, Touka is mean to Kaneki and bullies him at anteiku. She huffs at the idea of helping him, and calls him names rather than referring to him by his name. This changes after Touka goes after the doves who killed Ryoko and Kaneki comes out to help her.

From this moment on, Touka’s attitude towards Kaneki changes. She is caught off guard by his kindness and concern from her and she is less aggressive with him. She even begins calling him by his name after this and begins to train him. Now, I’m not counting any of the times that she hurt him when they were sparring because they were training and she needed to do that to get the fight of flight response necessary that he needed to use in order to use his kagune and learn to control it.

The next time she hits him seriously is during chapter 120, Penetration.

Note – prior to this Kaneki had promised to stay with her and didn’t, then he promised to visit and didn’t. Then, he lies to her about what he’s trying to accomplish with his group and Touka flips out. Is it right? No – but she is also a 16/17 year old girl at the time that this happens. She cares about Kaneki deeply by this point and she sees that he is trying to throw his life away and has no real purpose for what he is doing other than self-gratification and self-sacrifice. He is still being the person “who gets hurt,” just going about it in a different way. He is really protecting no one. She punches him, and then tells him to not come back to anteiku.

She later regretted this outburst.

But, what I love about this scene is that Kaneki after reflecting on his actions while he is “dying” thinks of her words and realizes that she was completely right about him.

After that, Touka is doesn’t give up hope that Kaneki is alive and builds re: for him for the chance that he does get his memories again and wants to return to them.

She doesn’t hit him again until they return from cochlea, but this scene is meant to be more comedic in tone.

Was this right? Nah, it wasn’t – but Kaneki has been putting his loved ones through emotional hell for the past few years. He ran off to die, became a dove and lost his memories, and did some TRULY reprehensible shit as the black reaper for awhile. This is all very frustrating and I took this at Touka’s way of getting out that pent up aggression. I don’t think it was right, but I also understand the reason.

The last time was when Touka threw Kaneki out of her room, and she didn’t punch him. She pushed him out.

Now, you can go back and forth about whether this is abusive. Has she hit him? Yeah, but it’s a common trope in Japan. If you use that definition of the barest definition abuse then it would be considered abuse but so would almost every ship in the series save for Hi//de//kane and Tou//ri/ko. As I said, many of the people claiming abuse refuse to even try to understand the reasons behind Touka’s actions, but will spend hours analyzing other ships that I’m not naming that also meet this definition of abuse.

What I dislike about many of the anti–to//uken blogs is that while they point out the negative aspects of those ships, they NEVER, ever, call out some other ships in this series that meet this criteria. If they are so against what they preceive as abuse, then why don’t they also have callout blogs for those specific ships? If Kaneki is such a poor and traumatized abuse survivor, when why the hell are you pairing him with people who had physically harmed him, nearly killed him, or tried to eat him?

At the end of the day, I have no problems with those ships, but it’s hypocrisy at it’s finest.

Even in that anti–tou//ken blog, they stan Mut//suki, which is fine, but Mut//suki also  basically “raped” that U//ta clone thing that looked like H//aise and is actively trying to fuck over Ken for his own selfish reasons. But they don’t call that abusive? Do you see what I mean? Either it’s all abusive and awful, or it’s not. Either you are going to hold all of these ships to the same standard or you’re just a hypocrite that hates Touka because she doesn’t fall into the perfect parameters of what a female character is supposed to be. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
