what am i doing with my life here

Y/N: Wha-? Shit, where the hell am I?

Napoleon: *looking down at you* British, huh? Well, you got knocked out by some of the enemy troops, but I saved you.

Y/N: An American? What are you doing here?

Napoleon: It looks like we’re on the same mission. And ‘what are you doing here’ is a weird way of saying ‘thank you for saving my life’. Is that a British thing?

REQUESTS ARE OPEN!

Total Life Change

I got a phone call the other day that has made me think a lot about my life.

It was for a job in Seattle, and if it was offered, and if I accepted… they would give me a large increase, a large bonus, and would pay for me to move.

I may have more calls/interviews. I may not. We will see.

But,

that one conversation has caused me to consider what my life would be like if I took a job in another city.

I would leave my whole family here (two are finished with college, one is still working and doing school, and one has a lot of health problems). My ex wife will move back here the minute I ask her to (like if I move out, for example).

My dog. That would honestly be the hardest. My kids would know where I am and could come visit, etc. My dog would think I died or something.

I could take her with me, but she’s already in her twilight year(s?)… so, it might be harder on her to move, than to lose me. She’s a Borzoi, and she’s 8 years old. They live to be around 9 or so, I think.

This may not even happen, but it has really made me think!

Happy birthday, Diego Luna | 29th December 1979

(Diego on his birthday) It’s horrible. It’s been traumatic. It took me awhile to understand that there was another kid that was born on the 25th that was much more celebrated than me. Yeah, it was sad. Everyone was like either hangover or getting ready for New Year’s Eve but never really actually celebrating me. It was like, “Hey! I’m here!” “Yeah, we know whatever.”

Can we appreciate Greg Universe’s outlook on life?

Steven: Dad I want to go to Korea and learn more about my mother’s dark past.

Greg: Ok sure.

Steven: Dad help me jump a fence that is clearly marked “Do not enter”.

Greg: Ok sure.

Steven: Oh shit it’s Blue Diamond.

Greg: It’s cool, I’ll go talk to her.

Blue Diamond: It’s very clear that I’m dangerous to you, but I am crying over someone I lost.

Greg: I miss someone too, and relate to your sadness, here’s some life advice.

Blue Diamond: You’re cool, I’m putting you in my zoo.

Greg: Wait, what

*later*

Greg: Well, I’ve been kidnapped, and put in a space zoo. God knows what will happen to me, here. I may never see my son, or anyone else I love, ever again.

Greg: Might as well let this dude braid my hair, lol

~~

Greg’s inability to give a f*ck is something I treasure.

How to avoid an awkward situation by Min Yoongi Genius: Rap Agust D.

IT WAS YOONGI’S TIME TO FREAKING SHINE AND HIS MIC WASN’T WORKING WHY Y’ALL DO HIM DIRTY LIKE THAT OMG

I’m so so so so glad he’s back healthy and happy tho I missed him soooo much ヾ(*´∇`)ノ

It was my responsibility to do this, therefore I am not sorry.

I have been grading math homework and quizzes for the last couple of years, working with a number of professors and graduate teaching assistants, and I see students making the same mistakes over and over again. I hear the same complaints from other professors, GTAs, and graders. I thought I would throw out some advice that might help your grades, or at least endear you to the person in charge of them.

I think these tips will apply to any class in which you turn in problem sets on a regular basis, and you might be able to apply some of this to things like lab reports, but I am mostly focusing on undergrad-level math, computational or proof-based. I hope it goes without saying, but first and foremost you should do what your instructor, not a stranger on the internet, tells you to do.

So, if I am grading your homework, here is what I would like you to do:

  • MAKE MY LIFE EASY

The harder it is for me to grade, the less points you are likely to get. That’s not just me being spiteful - if I don’t see your answer to a problem, I can’t read your handwriting, or I don’t understand how you got from point a to point z, it is going to be very hard for me to award you points. I try to be generous, as do most people I know, but we can only do so much for you.

  • KNOW YOUR MISSION

What are you trying to accomplish in these assignments? How do you do that?

 - You are trying to practice the course material to get a better understanding. So, do all the work assigned to you, and don’t just copy it from your friend (we can tell) or a solutions manual (we can really tell)

- You are trying to communicate to me (and to yourself!) that you understand the course material. I don’t need to see all of your scratch work or first attempts, but I need to see how you arrived at your answer, and I need to know what your answer is. I urge you to type or neatly rewrite your finished assignment before you turn it in. Please highlight your answers with a box, a circle, or some other indicator. If you’re writing a proof, start with “Proof:” and end with “QED” or a tombstone (or even a smiley face!) so I know what I’m supposed to be evaluating. Your work should be readable - in terms of handwriting, spacing, and yes, even grammar. It should follow a logical order so that someone reading it can understand what you’re doing. Explain your steps if you think you need to. And if a problem tells you to use a certain formula, theorem, or method, use it.

 - You are trying to learn from your mistakes. Of course this varies from grader to grader, but in general, we spend a lot of time giving you feedback, so please write something!!! I can’t help you if you don’t even attempt a problem. And for what it’s worth, while this isn’t true of everyone, a lot of people (myself included) will almost never give 0 points if it looks like an honest attempt has been made. If you have no idea what to do with a problem and it’s the last minute, it might be worth it to write down what you’re confused about - “I thought I could do this using integration by parts, but I couldn’t work out what to use for u and dv” is something I can respond to, and hopefully give you some help!

  • BE AWARE: STYLE COUNTS

Most of the time, I can and will take off points for style. Some instructors have a certain number of points worked into their grading rubric for style. Here are some suggestions!

 - Staple your f&*%ing homework!!!!! No, do not fold over the corner. Don’t tape several sheets together. Staple it. With an actual, metal staple.
–> It never hurts to write your name on every page, and number your pages as well. Just make it as hard as possible for me to lose a page.

 - Do not turn in paper with those spiral-bound frills on the edge. Most spiral-bound notebooks are perforated, so tear along the perforation! Otherwise, please use printer paper, loose-leaf binder paper, or really anything else…

 - …anything except neon pink paper. I’m only saying this because it’s in my grading pile right now and I am dreading it. Use conventional paper!!!! I don’t care much about the ruling, but it should be white, or very nearly. Yellow legal pad paper is pushing it. Engineering paper is fine.

 - And on that note, please write in a conventional color. Black, blue, gray, or very near those colors. It should be dark. It should be readable. It should definitely not be red. I personally don’t grade in red, but a lot of people do, and regardless of that, it is hard to read large chunks of red text.

 - I know I said this already, but: rewrite your homework. Seriously. If it is anything but straightforward computations, it is going to get messy, and fast. Do your scratch work on a separate sheet of paper, and then write up a final copy with everything you want me to see, and nothing you don’t.
–> If you can, type it! Here is a post by @munirastudies to get you started with LaTeX, which is very useful for typesetting technical and symbol-heavy text. The benefit to typing your homework is that it’s easy to go back and edit!

That’s all I have for now! Please feel free to message me with any questions or suggestions you have! I hope this is helpful to someone :)

edit: here are suggestions other people added! [x]

Hello guys! I’ve been getting a lot of requests to do studying tips so here it is! I am by no means an expert but as a student, I wrote this based on what I’ve learnt as I struggled and pulled myself through my school life!

 KNOW YOUR STRENGTH & WEAKNESSES

As a student, I personally feel that it’s most important to know where your forte lies. By identifying your weakness you would know the subjects that you should tackle rather than focusing on the thing you’re already familiar with. You should spend more time on your weaker areas compared to your strong one, however do not get complacent!!!

 TIME MANAGEMNET

Studying for exams are always a race against time, thus mapping out the things you should do is always important. I don’t have a strict time schedule where I allocate certain timing for my subjects; however, I do time myself when I do papers. For example, when I was doing math papers as revision for o levels, the duration given for one Emath paper was 2 hours. Thus, when I practiced and did my papers, I would only give myself 1 and half hours. This will train me to do my papers faster with maximum accuracy. You’re also required to have a good grasp of your subject to be able to complete questions faster.

SLEEP & EAT WELL

Somehow during exam periods, a lot of my friends start sacrificing their sleep and food to study. And I can’t emphasize enough how wrong this is. Most of my friends, who do this, end up making more careless mistakes in their paper and thus winding up with lower marks. Lack of sleep is a serious flaw and can jeopardize you paper immensely. If you’re tired, rest; don’t try to push yourself because your brain won’t be able to absorb the information any longer. It’s the same situation with the food, if you sacrifice your meals, you may end up getting gastric that may just affect your performance during the paper.

MAKE NOTES

Well duh right? Everyone makes notes, but more importantly, you need to make notes that you would want to read. As much as the process of writing and remembering is important, if you like the way you notes look, you’ll feel more inclined to read it. Thus, this is partially why I enjoy making notes that look pretty to me.

 TAKE BREAKS

Never ever forget to take breaks. I’d recommend a 15minutes break every 2 hours. Pushing yourself to sit there continuously will only cause you to lose focus, causing you to become restless. Different people have different attention span, thus never ever compare yourself to your friends and force yourself to sit down and study as long they do. Find out what works for you and what doesn’t.

 LISTENING TO MUSIC

I looooove music. But I have to admit, listening to music while I’m trying to memorize some lit quotes, isn’t working out for me. Thus, I don’t recommend listening to music as you’re trying to absorb content heavy subjects. However, if its question based subjects like math, by all means. Check out my studying playlist!

 KNOW YOURSELF

You need to know what method helps you work best. Writing? Auditory? Everyone has a different style of learning that works best for him or her. Some people need to read their content out loud for themselves to hear before they can memorize, however this does not work for everyone. Maybe you’re the type that needs to draw diagrams to colour code your notes. Whichever the case is, its best to know yourself, and the style of learning that best suits you.

 STRESS MANAGEMENT

Stress isn’t necessarily bad. A little bit of stress can get you off your lay bum and to start doing some work. However, being overly stressed will just backfire and may cause anxiety problems. This is why it’s essential to keep a healthy balance of work and play. Don’t overwork yourself and drive yourself into a corner, this isn’t healthy for you or your studies. Taking conscious effort to distress can help keep a pleasant attitude and mind that’s good for learning.

DELETE DISTRACTIONS

If you find yourself being constantly distracted by your phone or a particular app, delete it. Lock your phone in the drawer or temporarily delete your social media apps. Downloading focus aps can help you too. Apps like helps block access to some websites can restrain you from falling back into the trap that is distractions.

DESIRE TO SUCCEED

It is important that you’re doing all this for yourself. Not your parent. Not anyone else, but you. If you lack the desire to get good grades and do well, it’ll definitely be tough finding the motivation to do anything. You don’t have to like studying, but you at least have to want getting good grades. If you desire to have straight As, you’ll naturally fell more inclined to do something to help you get it. However, its also important to set realistic goals. It’s impossible for you to jump from a F9 to A1 in a month. Set practical goals and take baby steps to get there.

 PROCRASTINATION

Well, procrastination can be a bitch. I started my studyblr account during my o level periods because seeing other people’s notes made me want to study. You should find a way to help YOU counter your procrastination tendencies.

All in all, studying is something very unique and personalized. What works for me may not work for you, but if you keep working hard. No goal is ever too far. Thank you for reading!

Georges Bataille Quotes for the Signs
  • Aries: "But on a sensual level, she so bluntly craved any upheaval that the faintest call from the senses gave her a look directly suggestive of all things linked to deep sexuality, such as blood, suffocation, sudden terror, crime; things indefinitely destroying human bliss and honesty."
  • Taurus: "I am in harmony with my annihilation."
  • Gemini: "Life will dissolve itself in death, rivers in the sea, and the known in the unknown. Knowledge is access to the unknown. Nonsense is the outcome of every possible sense."
  • Cancer: "So we expect love to be a solution for infinite suffering? And what choice do we have? Within us anguish is infinite, and we fall in love."
  • Leo: "Pleasure only starts once the worm has got into the fruit, to become delightful happiness must be tainted with poison."
  • Virgo: "There are masses of lilacs here, irises and wisteria. The forest seems like peace itself, but when the day comes it will burn like a match."
  • Libra: "I believe that truth has only one face: that of a violent contradiction."
  • Scorpio: "I don’t want your love unless you know I am repulsive, and love me even as you know it."
  • Sagittarius: "The need to go astray, to be destroyed, is an extremely private, distant, passionate, turbulent truth."
  • Capricorn: "I imagine myself covered with blood, broken but transfigured and in agreement with the world, both as prey and as a jaw of time, which ceaselessly kills and is ceaselessly killed."
  • Aquarius: "The urge towards love, pushed to its limit, is an urge toward death."
  • Pisces: "We approach the void…but not to fall into it. We want to become intoxicated with dizziness and the image of the fall is sufficient."

You were here.
We were so in love.
Well I still am.
You’re not sure anymore.
But I still feel it,
deep in my bones.
I just want to sleep,
but it doesn’t seem to come.
I’m so sad.
But you don’t seem to be sad at all.
How can you not be?
When I can barely breath.
I have all these empty promises.
And memories filling my vision.
I don’t know what to do with them.
Because I cant seem to let them go.
As easily as you let me go.

Caroline: I am here for you always, no matter what else happens in my life. I am here for you whatever you need, even if it’s just to rage at me and scream at me.
Bonnie: None of this is your fault.
Caroline: Except I was so caught up in my own drama, I didn’t even realize what this was doing to you. I swear to you, we are going to save Enzo together, and then, we are going to go back to our normal, crazy, mutually-awesome lives.
