America and England having a friendly discussion about what werewolves look like.
A lot of old werewolf mythology in England say that werewolf’s are people who transform into a large wolf by magic or a curse. Whereas the American popularisation of werewolves is more of a half-man half-wolf amalgamation. The idea of transferring or spreading the werewolf curse by a bite or scratch and weaknesses to things like silver is also American.
Quick explanation: I did these off a personal thought basis, feel free to disagree. So when I suggest who does fit better where, this is just what I think. My thought process, or classification, is that Vampires are more refined and planned, etc. While a werewolf personalities is more free, or sometimes more aggressive prone.
((Do not send asks in correcting me please, just…have your opinion and agree to disagree, that’s fine.))
It was bloody cold outside, that much Arthur knew. They had been traveling the icy plains for what felt like days, even weeks, but in truth had only been a few hours. The mercenary had been on high alert the entire time, his mixed-matched armor standing out even more against the pale snow beneath them. In truth, they both stuck out like sore thumbs against the backdrop, but it was hard to believe that anything was even around to attack them at all.
Eventually the mage grew tired, leaning against his staff as he came to a stop. “We can’t just stop here…there’s no shelter at all!”Alfred warned, worry present in his blue eyes that reflected the moonlight above so perfectly. “Alfred, look around. There hasn’t been any sign of shelter for miles.” Arthur rebutted, heaving a heavy sigh as he rubbed the side of his arm with is free hand. “I just wish it wasn’t so blasted cold.”“I don’t feel a thing.” his companion offered, much to his chagrin. “Well if I was a bloody furnace 24/7, then I suppose I wouldn’t feel the cold either.”Alfred’s eyes cast down towards the chilling powder beneath the feet in defeat. “I-If I could share my head with you, I would. But even then it’s only going to get worse as the night goes on.”Arthur seemed to mull over the half-Nord’s statement for a time before a smile creased his lips.“Then share warmth with me in a different way.”Alfred looked taken aback, trying to make sense of what Arthur had said. Finally he caught on, his brow furrowed. “No. I’m not going to change just so I can be your fuzzy blanket.”
Arthur’s expression quickly turned from jest to serious, eyes shifting from Alfred back to a solitary snowflake that floated down, gently landing on his palm. “You’d rather I freeze to death?”Alfred had no immediate answer. He thought and thought, obviously going over the many possibilities in his head. Eventually he could find no excuse strong enough to go against the Dragonborn’s wishes and conceded. Arthur’s smugness returned, turning to look the other way so that his companion could change in private. “Just don’t make a habit of this.”
Alfred’s lycanthopy had certainly come in handy in saving their lives numerous times. Tonight was no exception. As he lay against the soft, amber fur, he could hear the beast’s heart beating loud and strong. He was filled with an overwhelming sense of warm that radiated over his entire body. He felt a bit of remorse asking Alfred to change, but as he ran his fingers through Alfred’s ruff, the great wolf curled tight about him. He could afford to be spoiled this one time, couldn’t he?
So meet my current obsession: Fidelitas! Took up reading it today and was finished in a matter of hours. This is a wonderful, wonderful fanfic that’s a crossover between Skyrim and Hetalia (namely USUK). The masterful way it’s constructed, the suspense, the descriptive nature of the work is just a wonderful read. I was introduced to it from THIS tumblr (as they now have a tumblr): http://askskyrimusuk.tumblr.com/
You should check it out because it is awesome and the art is gorgeous and yes…
Me and @unworthy-prince really love your blog so we thought we’d cosplay it. I’m the Arthur and she’s Alfred. Thank you so much for creating such a wonderful blog!! <33 Hope this is alright! @ask-theundeadhusbands
A vampire and werewolf can never can be friends.
Alfred thought panting beside the vampire who was panting as well. They both were tired from the fight, both had new scars, new wounds burying their old ones.
When Alfred's beast is referred to as a sentient being, does that mean it has it's own thoughts and feelings? Alfred dis ambiguities himself from the lycanthrope, but are they really two beings?
Kel: “Lycanthropy in Skyrim is really interesting, in that the curse can’t be gotten involuntarily (unless one is born with it); you have to actually drink the blood of one who is afflicted while he or she is in beast form. With the curse itself, the literal spirit of whatever creature you manifest as during the change lives inside you, like a second soul. To my understanding, the beast spirit does not have human thought, but DOES retain animal thought - meaning it can react on instinct to outside stimuli against its host’s will (Alfred’s spontaneous change in “I Promise“ while fighting Ivan and his near spontaneous change at the end of “Legacy" would be examples of that).
In the case of Alfred, putting aside that he doesn’t want to end up on anyone’s radar, he does not like to be associated AS a beast/werewolf because he sees himself (being Alfred) as human. He tries to live as normal a life as possible without overtly associating his identity with his curse (he often has to hide his extraordinary strength and sensory, and would rather be addressed as “half-Nord” than “half-beast”).
When he changes though (and this is totally Kel-theory here), one of the reasons its so traumatic is the fact that his soul is merging with the beast’s to become ONE being. Rather than two souls in one body, it’s one altered, unnatural soul inhabiting a twisted form (hence why its a curse). In inexperienced werewolves, human thought takes a backseat to animal instinct (hence what happened to kiddo-Alfred in the “Inner Beast” Tale), but for Alfred, (as he has dealt with this curse for many years and was brought up by a pack of very experienced werewolves) he has learned how to keep his human mind primary even when changed. So, unlike most werewolves in Skyrim, Alfred still has many human characteristics even when he’s nearly 8 feet tall and fluffy.
:) If you have ever wondered why our dear Alfred acts so domesticated in his beast form (able to make decisions, able to override self-preservation to protect Arthur, use human expressions and understand Arthur when he speaks) its because Alfred doesn’t WANT to be scary when he’s changed. He intentionally acts more dog than wolf-like because he doesn’t want people (especially Arthur) to see him as a monster. He works hard to disassociate himself from the nightmare stereotype and wants to be see as “Alfred” above “werewolf”…though it really does help that his inner-beast sees companionship with Arthur as important as Alfred does.
No, Alfred’s beast doesn’t have human thought but it again has animal instinct. The beast sees Arthur as its mate and Alpha as much as Alfred does, so having that similar mindset is why Arthur never has to fear for his safety even if Alfred’s change is spontaneous (which does happen; biggest example being the end of the “I Promise” Tale, when the beast completely took over in the prison and wouldn’t eat Arthur despite the need to feed).
^^; Hope that explained this Ask and a few other’s we’ve gotten about this subject. Sorry its so long~”
