Don't know if you're still answering questions but I need to know what you think about Disney sequels? Like Cinderella 2 & 3? Do they bother you as much as the bother me?
Oh man!! I think there are some wonderful Disney sequels and some terrible Disney sequels and only like two that I think fall somewhere in the middle.
The Good: There’s four Disney sequels I would genuinely call good. Cinderella III: A Twist in Time is excellent. Cinderella is super headstrong and I love any subplot that involves the Tremaines, plus there’s a dash of development for Disney’s flattest prince. Peter Pan 2: Return to Neverland is absolutely wonderful, there’s a few hokey sequel cliches but it all finishes with such a beautiful moment between Peter and the grown-up Wendy. Plus Jane is such an interesting contrast to Wendy in the first film. Finally, the two sequels to The Lion King. Using Romeo and Juliet as a framework for Kovu and Kiara is so smart and, from what I remember, is very well thought out. And then The Lion King 1 ½ is amazing, it has a slow start but then once you catch up to the original movie and start tying Timon and Pumbaa into everything, it gets so so fun!
The first one I’d drop in the middle is The Little Mermaid 2. The animation just isn’t spectacular but there’s some fun characters, especially Melody, who is exactly like her mother but longs the world in the sea while living on land, instead of vice versa. Plus I love Morgana. The second is Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, primarily because I adore Angelique.
Everything else is bad to terrible. Cinderella 2 is lazy. Jungle Book 2 is weak. Tarzan 2, Atlantis 2, Hunchback 2, 101 Dalmatians 2, just none of them work… the new characters are always underdeveloped, the plot is always garbage, and the animation is always halfhearted. Mulan 2 makes Mushu a villain!
So I don’t think the Disney sequel is a total swing-and-a-miss… but most of them are!
