Did you know Rufus Sewell before Victoria? Feels like ltos of fans didn't. Thanks!
Yes, I knew about him prior to watching the show. I’ve been a fan of his for a long time actually. I remember seeing him on screen for the first time as a teen in Middlemarch, the adaptation of the George Eliot novel and falling instantly in love. Those intense, hooded green eyes, raspy voice and unruly curls were right up my alley. Then a few years later he popped up again in a film I caught on TV purely by chance called, Dangerous Beauty. It is my belief that there are certain men made for period dramas. Seeing him in that film proved it to me.
I think Victoria has showcased Rufus’ talent to a wider audience. He’s such an underrated, quality actor IMHO and for some reason he’s generally typecast as a baddie. Regardless, he has a great range and this wonderful ability to emote with his eyes. There’s an intensity about him that is captivating - at least to me. But apart from his obvious good looks, what makes him so attractive (again, to me) is his intelligence and his eloquence. I was fortunate enough to see him last year at Comic Con during The Man in the High Castle panel discussion. Wow. I came away from that with a new appreciation for him as a man and as an actor.
If nothing else, I hope fans of Victoria will check out some of his other projects. It’s well worth it.
