My dear newbie yarn benders,

I love you. You’re wonderful and fabulous and energized about seeing a cool project on the inter-webs and have finally said “yes! I think I could do that! This is the one that will get me into knitting/crochet” With all the excitement and joy in the world you go to the craft store, grab the coolest looking yarn (in the best color, duh) and the cheapest needles/hook you can find (If if needles are too intimidating, you opt for the knitting loom. It comes in a 3 pack! score!). You follow the instructions as best you can with dreams of your project turning out exactly like the professionally taken photograph. Oh my naive, beautiful newbie yarn bender, you are on a craft high. Head so far in the clouds that you don’t realize what has happened until it’s done. We’ve all been here at some point, no matter how skilled a person is.

My lovelies. Please learn from the mistakes that have already happened. Take the time to learn about gauge and value the materials needed. I am most definitely NOT saying buy the most expensive stuff. I am saying that skien of yarn that is one dollar more will likely make you enjoy the finished product bounties more than the value of one dollar.

Take the top picture. This was most definitely made on a knitting loom. Im personally not a huge advocate of these. They’re great for learning how knitting works. Not great for endless feats of creativity. You’re limited by the size of the loom which limits you to the size of the yarn as well as the size of the object you make. For something that will not ladder (the long horizontal bits between the “V” stitches) you need yarn thick enough to touch the stitch next to it when wrapped around the loom. In the case of the photo, yarn far too thin was used.

The next picture looks like it could be arm knitting. Which was a fad I loved. Can we bring this back instead of those pony tail hats? The larger the needle, in this case your arm, the larger yarn you need. The original appears to have multiple yarns being used. Perhaps our newbie knitter didn’t realize that’s an option? Lesson here: Larger needles, larger yarn. Smaller needles, smaller yarn.

The last picture. This crocheted hippo went through the stretcher! oh no! This is a case of right yarn, wrong size hook. When your needle/hook is larger than your yarn and you put it under tension (in this case, stuffing it) the created fabric will stretch (more-so demonstrated in the first picture). Amigurumi is also hard as shit. The people who do it very well are incredible talented. We should all bow before their prowess. Please don’t try an amigurumi (small figurine knitting/crochet) as your first or even 5th project!

General rule of thumb: if you don’t want holes in your work look for yarn and needle/hook approx same size in diameter.

Alas, you have returned for the craft store. Heading the advice you’ve gotten complimentary yarn and needle/hook. TIME TO START THE CRAFT JUICE!

NO.

NOT YET.

“but whyyyy?” you whine

Because we must first test the yarn.

“But tests are boooooring” says the yarn.

I agree, talking yarn. Tests are boring and terrible and holy crap tell you if you’re doing something right or wrong. This is useful information to know before creating something beautiful with your HANDS

Also my dear newbie yarn bender, practice makes a better yarn bender. Resist the urge to pump out something fast. Pinterst lied to you. It’s not going to take 1 hour. It will take at least 3 hours and two trips to the craft store. Accept this now. Knitting/crochet is slow ASF. Accept this now. Or find a different hobby.

So loop on some stitches and knit or crochet your joyous heart out. Then measure it once you get around 5 inches. Count the stitches horizontally and vertically. Then refer to the chart above and make sure everything agrees. Got 12 stitches per 4 inches and using DK (3) yarn? Time to change needles sizes or get your gorgeous self some bulky yarn. Or get yourself some bulky yarn anyhow. Treat yo’self.

i love you newbie yarn benders! Go forth and create and learn

Alex’s eyes flashed open, his tiredness forgotten. Had he heard correctly? Had he imagined it? He glanced up to peek at John’s face. He had a small, sad smile on his face and his eyes were closed. Peaceful.

Alex silently wondered what he should do, his mind racing a mile a minute. He really didn’t need any more drama today, but he also didn’t need festering tension in his friend group… He closed his eyes again, already regretting what he was about to say next.

Hey anon, I’m like. SUPER fond of this crossover ok?? I actually drew it a little already! It’s actually BECAUSE of a Mob Psychonauts crossover that I discovered Psychonauts! If I never reblogged that art way back when, and if Xi didn’t explain it more to me, I would have probably never played this wonderful game! ;v;

That crossover was a “what if Psychonauts came to Mob’s world”, which I do love, but I wanted to try it in the opposite direction here :’D I tried real hard not to draw stuff for it coz HECK I HAVE ALOT OF AUS BUT here are some short dumb comics and my attempt at Black Velvetopia! Raz and Mob ;7;

I HAVE IDEAS. HERE ARE SOME.

Okay so @chirpingisflirting said she’s been having a real poopy bday, so I thought I’d take a crack at a nurseydex hc (which became this lame ficlet chimera) for her! Here goes nothing! Literally!

I’d imagine that, early in Nursey and Dex’s relationship (say, four months in?), school starts hittin’ Dex hard; boy’s got assignments up the wazoo, some emergency fees come up and he takes a small job a few days a week at the school bookstore/convenience store, his life’s just a mess. Nursey’s trying to keep his cool and be understanding, but it’s driving him nuts. He hasn’t seen Dex outside of practice in like, a month and a half, and he keeps trying to text him and make the best out of a crappy situation, but Dex tends to fall asleep or get bogged down by a new assignment and just forgets to text back and or it’s been almost a day and it’d feel really awkward to answer now and… yeah. It’s really fucking with Nursey.

He’s been taking it slow with Dex (whom I headcanon as only recently really coming into his sexuality?) since the start, but it feels like he’s the only one who gives a crap sometimes. Nursey reminds himself that’s obviously not true, though, and that Dex is just obscenely busy and just… lays on the supportive texts, or brings extra snacks for Dex after practice/before class. Still, this can only go on for so long.

And it’s driving Dex crazy too, because he’s reading all the texts, and he can see how upset Nursey is every time he splits up with the rest of the team after breakfast to head off to class, and it weighs on his mind when he’s knee-deep in some cs problem. It’s his first real relationship (with a dude?), and he’s crazy for Nursey, but he feels like he’s only giving 30% when Nursey’s constantly giving 100% (which ISN’T TRUE; boy’s running himself ragged, here!).

So he works double time for like a week to give him enough slack to slack off for an evening. It’s Tuesday, and he texts Nursey around lunch to get dressed in something comfy and wait outside the Haus for him after dinner. Nursey’s totally confused and is so… idk? Anxious? What could Dex want to talk about? Can Nursey even take this anymore? Is this fair to him? He almost doesn’t reply or want to show up, but he’s a sucker for Dex, so he puts on a cute li'l sweater over a collared shirt and waits out front.

Dex pulls up ten minutes late (definitely unlike him), and Nursey and him drive off silently.

They pull up to this hill hidden between these real posh houses that overlook Samwell and the surrounding town, minutes pass, and Dex pulls a scrap of paper and a single, haggard looking rose from behind his seat, but he still won’t talk. He just stares down at the things in his hands, and Nursey’s somewhere between concerned and pissed.

“I stopped by the flower shop before they closed and picked this up for you,” Dex starts, hands on the rose he’s now jerking in Nursey’s direction, “but I realized I don’t even know if you like roses, and this is completely fucking cliché, and it got all fucked up because I kept fiddling with it, and- Jesus, Nurse. I’m sorry.”

Nursey just looks up and locks eyes with Dex for the first time all night. Concern is winning out over anger now. He takes the rose, and his eyebrows wrinkle in an almost sad way.

“Shit, Nur- Derek! Derek. Are you okay? I’m so, so–”

“I love it.” Nursey places his hand over Dex’s. Dex just blushes and goes silent again, his eyes returning to the scrap that’s getting closer to becoming, well, scraps.

“I know I’ve been really shitty about, well, us, recently.” Dex is breathing deeper now. “But I know how hard this is for you, and I think about you all the time, and I thought I could balance everything, but I-” Dex shrugs. “I guess I can’t,” he chuckles.

“And I guess I know how much you like poetry and stuff, and- just- I brought you here to tell you…” He stretches out the paper in his now shaking hands, and sucks in a sharp breath. Th- this. Just read this.“ He passes the scrap over to Nursey:

‘You’re in a car with a beautiful boy, and he won’t tell you that he loves you, but he loves you. And you feel like you’ve done something terrible, like robbed a liquor store, or swallowed pills, or shoveled yourself a grave in the dirt, and you’re tired. You’re in a car with a beautiful boy, and you’re trying not to tell him that you love him, and you’re trying to choke down the feeling, and you’re trembling, but he reaches over and he touches you, like a prayer for which no words exist, and you feel your heart taking root in your body, like you’ve discovered something you didn’t even have a name for.’

"Yo, you know plagiarism is probably the least effective way to my heart, right?” Nursey chirps.

“I know that, idiot,” Dex starts. “I- I’m not saying I wrote it. I just-”

“I know, man.” Nursey’s hand tightens around Dex’s.

And then Nursey’s kissing him, and Dex could almost cry for all that he feels he doesn’t deserve it after this past month. They break apart soon, though, and Dex takes the moment to hold Nursey out at arm’s length.

“I'msosorryDerekyoudeservebetterthanthisI'lltryharderforyou,” Dex breathes out.

“Hey, chill. I’m not blind, you know? You’re doin’ everything you can, Will. Just… just let me help you too, y'know? If you’re too busy to leave your damn room, let me come to you. It’ll kill me, but I can catch up on my readings and… not distract you.” He waits a beat for Dex to answer, and when he doesn’t, he continues, “Or I can meet you in between classes and walk you to your next one, or we can call each other… I just miss you.”

Dex’s eyes start darting here and there, like he’s looking for something in Nursey’s, and he finally answers: “Yeah. Yeah, I’d like that.” He’s sniffling now. “Let me do better.”

And with that, Dex leans in to kiss the smile sprouting on Nursey’s lips.

(And then vehicular cuddles. A lot of them. To the point where Nursey has to drive them back because Dex is half-asleep.)

Break Even

A Christmassy SnowBaz fic for the Carry On Countdown

Simon

Of course, it’s not enough that the Crucible stuck me and that twat in a room together.  It’s not enough that I have to deal with his abuse every single day six months out of the year.  Of course, someone out there, whoever’s controlling the fates, has gotten it in their mind that I don’t have it bad enough.

You know what would make this even better?  Make Simon and Baz buy each other Christmas presents!  Perfect!

I trudge along the snowy pavement, scowling at the melting slush.  I’ve been in five shops already and I can’t find anything.  I don’t even know what I’m looking for.  What do you get for someone you despise?

I suppose I could pull a prank or something. That’s probably what he will do. He never fails to stoop to the lowest level when it comes to me.

But then again, he would probably kill me if I pulled something like that.  For some reason, he’s allowed to mess with me, but I’m not allowed to mess with him. Figures.

Exhausted, I duck into a coffee shop.  The air is warm and spiced with cinnamon.  As I make my way to the front of the line, I see the display of gift cards next to the till.

Baz drinks coffee, doesn’t he?  Of course he does.  Everyone drinks coffee.

So I buy my peppermint mocha, load a gift card and walk out relieved.

Baz

Of course, it’s not enough that I have to pretend I hate the boy with every word I say.  It’s not enough that I have no choice but to make his life a living hell every single day six months out of the year. Now I have to display my everlasting hatred by means of a Christmas gift exchange.

Whoever thought this was a good idea can get fucked.

I shove my way out of a candy store emptyhanded. Every shop is bringing me closer to the point of giving up.  What kind of villain gives the hero candy for Christmas?

Then again, what kind of villain gives the hero anything for Christmas?

Maybe the villain who doesn’t want to be the villain.

I shake my head to clear it, squinting up at the sign over the next window.  Antiques it says in big loopy writing.  I sigh and push through the door.

The smell hits me first.  It’s not a bad smell necessarily, just old and musty, kind of like breathing straight dust, and I cough.  As my eyes adjust I begin to make out the piles of knick-knacks stacked up on every surface, age-old brass and silver winking at me from every corner.  Or rather, blinking.  Like someone who’s trying to wink but never quite got the hang of it.

I don’t know where to start.  I don’t even know what I’m looking for.  What do you get for someone who despises you?

From what I can tell, everything in here is pretty expensive, which almost causes me to turn around right then.  Expensive doesn’t fit the guidelines I’ve set for myself. The gift can’t be too sentimental or he’ll know you don’t hate him.  It can’t be too expensive or he’ll think you cared enough to spend money on him.  It can’t be candy because candy is for kids, it can’t be cologne because that’s too personal, it can’t be homemade or he’ll think you spent time and effort on him. The list goes on and on.

A flash of metal catches my eye, and I turn to see a tiny silver object on a table by the window.  I wander over to it.

It’s a sheath, only big enough for a dagger, and it’s patterned in bronze rosebuds.  When I pick it up, I discover that the blade is still inside, intact, and actually nicely polished.

Of course, Snow already has a sword, but when you live with a vampire, what harm would it do to have an extra weapon handy at all times?  One that doesn’t disappear when you’re not using it?

“How much for this?” I ask the shopkeeper.

Simon

When the last day of classes rolls around, I find Baz in our room – no surprises there – packing the last of his things for the holidays.  I clear my throat as I enter.  He turns, but only for a second, and he doesn’t make any other move to acknowledge my existence.  Again, no surprises there.

“Are you leaving soon?” I ask, trying to at least begin the conversation in a civil manner.

“Yes, Snow,” he sighs, “as you’ll be thrilled to know.”

I roll my eyes.  It doesn’t matter what I do.  This is just him.

I drop my bag on my bed and rummage through it, searching for the tiny gift.  When I find it, I toss in onto his bed.  “Here.”

He looks at it, his brow furrowed.  “What’s this?”

“Christmas gift exchange,” I say, “you might have forgotten.”

He opens the pathetic little square of wrapping paper I’ve taped around the gift card, and mutters something incoherent.  “What was that?” I ask.

“I said, this is my favourite coffee shop.”

“Oh,” I reply, not sure what else to say.  “Well, good then.  Happy Christmas, I guess.”

He slips the card into his pocket and doesn’t move.  I figure he’s completely forgotten about the gift exchange, or he deliberately didn’t get me anything, and decide not to press the subject.  I flop down on my bed and pull out a magic book.  No use in packing for me, I’m not going anywhere. Not like Baz.  Not everyone gets to celebrate with a family.  And certainly not everyone gets to celebrate in a fucking mansion.

A small wrapped package appears in my periphery. I look up.  Baz is madly arranging clothes in his luggage, trying to look like he didn’t put the thing on my bed.  I’m surprised, I’ll admit.  I guess he didn’t forget.

“What’s this?” I ask.  I don’t know why I ask it, as the answer is fairly obvious.

“Just open it,” he says, not looking at me.

Carefully I pull the tape off of the paper, not wanting to trigger anything in case this is still some sort of prank.  I wouldn’t put anything past him, the boy who literally pushed me down the stairs and tried to feed me to the Chimera.  But nothing ticks, and nothing blows up in my hands.  Slowly I pull the paper back from the object, holding it far away from my face, just to be safe.

I am not expecting a dagger.

Specifically, I am not expecting a dagger with a matching sheath that clips onto a belt, adorned with a rosebud pattern of bronze. I am not expecting what appears to be a polished silver blade with a soft leather hilt that fits in my hand like it was molded to the shape of my grip.

My mouth is hanging open in awe.  I can’t seem to form words.

I look back up at him.  He’s stopped rearranging his luggage and is watching me, and he looks almost nervous.

“How much did you spend on this?” I breathe.

He shakes his head.  “It was just from a pawn shop,” he mutters.

“Damn, Baz,” I chuckle, “way to make me look like a shit gift-giver.”

His eyes harden.  “I’ll take it back then,” he growls, moving to take it from my hands.

“No!”  I clutch the knife to my chest.  He stops, looking surprised, like he hadn’t actually expected me to like it.  How he could think that beats me.  “I love it,” I say, not even realizing that I’ve admitted to something.

His brow softens a bit.  “I just thought it might be easier than always having to summon your sword,” he shrugs.

“It’s perfect,” I breathe, staring at the roses on the sheath, spellbound by the thing.

Suddenly I’m hit by a wave of guilt.  I spent a handful on a lame gift card, when Baz went and actually found me something that would mean something.  I don’t stop to think about why he would want it to mean something, I only know that it leaves the scales completely unbalanced.

I need to repay him somehow.

I stand, and suddenly we’re nearly face-to-face. If our room wasn’t so damn tight we wouldn’t be this close together, but for once the proximity doesn’t bother me. It clearly affects him though, because he shies away as soon as I stand.  He won’t even make eye-contact with me.

“I can’t accept this,” I tell him, “not without paying you back somehow.”

“What part of the term ‘gift exchange’ do you not understand, Snow?” he asks, raising an eyebrow at me.  “It’s a gift.  Let’s just wish each other a Happy Christmas and be done with it.”

“No, that’s not how we work,” I insist.  “I torment you, you torment me, and somehow we always break even.  So now we have to break even on this.”

“I’m not telling you how much I spent on that,” he shakes his head.

“Why not?”  My heart drops for a second.  “Was it terribly expensive?”

“No, it’s just not what you do.  You don’t tell someone what you spent on them, it just makes them feel guilty.”

“And since when have you ever passed up an opportunity to make me feel guilty?” I challenge.  He doesn’t answer, just stares at something that isn’t my eyes. I can’t quite tell what he’s looking at. Maybe the wall behind me, maybe my shoulder, maybe nothing in particular.

“Alright,” I concede, “no money, then.  But there must be something I can do.”

And – Merlin – his cheeks turn pink.

And now I’m very aware of how close we are.

And of how I can pinpoint his gaze now.

He’s looking at my face, but not my eyes.  My mouth.

           Oh.

I don’t think.  I just lean in and kiss him.

Baz

Simon’s mouth, no matter how many times I’ve thought he might kiss me, is a complete shock.  I’ve stared at his lips plenty, but apparently I wasn’t prepared to feel them against mine.

And now here he is, pressing a gentle kiss to my cold mouth like it’s the easiest thing in the world.

Before I can even close my eyes, he pulls back.

           I don’t speak.  I don’t trust myself to.

           “Is that alright?” he whispers.

           “Yeah.”  Crowley, I’m shaking.

           “Are we even then?”

           “Um,” I swallow nervously, “almost.”

“Oh?” He smiles, and my heart stops entirely.  “What else do you want?”

I lean in by just a fraction, hoping he’ll take the hint.

           He does.

And then his mouth is flush against mine, not even bothering to be shy.

scars

my third entry for klanceweek! this time, for prompt #3: scars

still debating whether or not to cross-post these entries on ao3 so let me know what you think. again, you can also find these short ficlets on twitter!

day 1 / day 2

Twenty years of protecting the universe can really take a toll on someone.

Two long decades of travelling through space, fighting a tyrannical empire, saving innocent lives, and piloting giant mechanical lions that can only do so much to protect the pilot within. Of course, taking on missions and fighting in hand-to-hand combat is dangerous; there’s no doubt about it. And with great power, comes great responsibility.

Or something along those lines. Lance stares out at the waves, lapping lazily at the shore. The sand glistens, a muted orange under the light of the star duo overhead, like a couple of miniature suns. Although it isn’t exactly like Varadero beach, Lance can’t help but take some comfort from the familiar sounds of the ocean.

At his side, Keith has yet to say a word. He sits a bit hunched over, naked from the waist up. They wear a matching set of red and blue swim trunks that have, according to Coran, been worn by the paladins for centuries. A faint sheen of sweat covers his body, and Lance finds himself mesmerized.

Carefully, Lance closes the gap between them and situates Keith between his legs. He goes willingly, and Lance can’t help but snicker at what his younger self would say if he knew Keith Kogane let him maneuver his body like this.

Well, there are a lot of things young Lance wouldn’t believe about their current relationship.

“Easy, Lance,” Keith warns but his words don’t have much bite. Lance has learned over the years that the heat turns Keith into a pile of moldable mush. “My back is sore.”

“Don’t worry, samurai, I’m just going to reapply some sunscreen so you don’t turn into a lobster. Again.”

“Hey, I didn’t get that red last time.”

“Sure you didn’t,” Lance drawls. He squeezes a generous amount of the Altean equivalent of sunscreen into his palm. “Maybe it’s a Galran thing. I’ve never seen one of those guys hanging out at the beach.”

Keith clicks his tongue but doesn’t protest further. Muscles twitch beneath Lance’s hands as he slowly spreads the crème across Keith’s back. Miles of pale skin stretch out before him, begging to be appreciated. Lance maps out Keith’s body with his fingertips, places he’s touched hundreds of times before. There doesn’t seem to be a single spot Lance doesn’t have committed to memory.

Lance’s fingers skitter up Keith’s spine, brushing over each vertebrae along the way. Once he reaches the base of Keith’s neck, he sweeps his palms down and across his shoulder blades. A mole here and, oh, a birthmark there. And, almost as numerous as the moles, are scars.

Tiny patches where puckered skin hints at past battles. Purple tinges each mark, just slightly off from Keith’s natural skin tone. One jagged scar stretches from the top of Keith’s right shoulder down to the middle of his spine. Another sits at his lower back, a rectangle-shaped mark Lance speculates has been there the longest.

Scars cover Keith’s body, and Lance knows them all by heart.

Lance kneads, pinches, and rubs as he works. His hands settle on Keith’s shoulders, trying to ease every bit of muscle tension. A minute or two of massaging is all it takes to draw pleased sighs and moans from Keith. Lance grins contentedly, glad to know he hasn’t lost his touch.

“Pretty sure I won’t get a sunburn now,” Keith jokes, tone soft and breathy. Lance stops for a moment, and Keith outright whines. “Lance, c’mon.”

This man will be the death of me, Lance decides with a mock exasperated sigh. “Yeah, yeah…”

Lance skims a diamond-shaped scar with his pinky, one he can only ever see at times like this when Keith’s chest is bare and hair tied back. Keith flinches at the contact, as he always does. The origin of this scar is… terrible, to say the least.

About ten years ago, Keith had been kidnapped by Galran soldiers. The skeevy Prince Lotor planned everything, capturing both the red lion and its pilot. His main focus, however, had been Keith. The only paladin with Galra in his blood—Lotor wanted to ensure Keith didn’t have any secret information about the empire tucked inside his brain.

So, until the other paladins could rescue him, Keith was trapped. He rarely discusses it, but, from what Lance has heard, it involved torture.

Lance shudders at the mere thought of Keith being battered and manhandled. Mental scars certainly require greater care—and more time—to mend. And Lance had been there every step of the way to help Keith heal. The scar is a hideous reminder of the torment Keith had experienced but also symbolizes how the two finally came together, gradually progressing from friends to something more.

“Hey… Keith?” Lance worries at his bottom lip.

“Mmm?”

“I don’t think I say it enough so… you know that I, uh. That I love you. Right?” Lance’s mouth struggles like it’s stuffed with cotton. This is nothing like when he first confessed his feelings to Keith and yet that’s how it feels. That’s how it always feels.

“What’s gotten into you?” Keith tenses, and Lance draws his arms back against his chest. “Oh.”

“I sometimes forget it’s there.” Lance lightly presses a finger to the lavender little triangle. “But I don’t know how I could forget about…”

“It’s alright. That happened years ago.”

“You know how scared I was,” Lance mumbles. “And you—you weren’t you.”

Don’t cry, Lance silently begs. Please don’t.

“Well, I’m definitely myself now.” As if sensing the tears threatening to spill over, Keith looks over his shoulder. A small smile takes shape on his lips. The skin around his mouth wrinkles, as well as around his eyes, from many hours spent grinning and laughing at Lance’s nonsense. “That’s what matters.”

A weak laugh wrenches its way up Lance’s throat. “Yeah, but…”

“No ‘buts,’” Keith scolds. “You helped me back then. I wouldn’t be here right now if you hadn’t.”

Keith.”

“I’m serious. I could hardly sleep, and I felt like I was going crazy. You were the only one who knew what I needed.” Keith pauses, brow furrowing. “At first, I didn’t care about whether I got any better. But then you… you were doing so much.”

Lance shakes his head; words have totally escaped him. The telltale warmth of a tear gliding down his cheek forces him to curse. Stupid, stupid tear ducts.

“Lance, I— Shit.”

Keith turns all the way around and practically throws himself at Lance. Caught off guard, Lance falls backward, landing with Keith pressed against his chest. For a moment, their eyes meet, and Lance sees the entire universe reflected back at him. Then, just like that, Keith is groaning in embarrassment and burying his face in Lance’s neck.

“I love you so much,” Keith whispers against his skin. “So fucking much.”

Lance wraps his arms around Keith, savoring the vulnerable truth in those words. He never gets tired of this—of having Keith at his side. I love you, too. A memory flickers to life in Lance’s mind, of their first kiss, of the time Keith first thanked him for everything he had done. Keith had been a quivering mess back then, clutching at Lance like a lifeline. More than you’ll ever know.

So Lance holds Keith close, like he never plans to let him go.

(He doesn’t.)

  • what she says: i'm fine.
  • what she means: ok so how did Brian Jones's death become so wrongfully depicted in the media? It's reported that he died under the influence of drink and drugs and became "just another sad rockstar that died drugged and drunk" but first of all the postmortem found little to no evidence of drugs in his system and his blood alcohol level represented the equivalent of just three and a half pints of beer, and people that knew him, Keith Richards included, noted that it was indeed very strange that he drowned in such a short period of time in his own swimming pool while broadly sober, because Brian was a very strong swimmer and very acrobatic in water. Anna Wohlin, his girlfriend of three months and a key witness, maintains that Brian had stopped taking drugs (except for sleeping pills, which he did NOT abuse) when they met in April of '69 and also maintains that Brian was NOT sad, devastated or felt any sort of betrayal against the Stones members for sacking him, he was actually quite relieved (also verified by Keith Richards) and that he and Anna actually had planned to go to the Hyde Park gig so Brian could publicly show he had no hard feelings about leaving the Rolling Stones. He had wanted to get out of the band for some time and wanted to get together a new band, Bill Wyman remembers that Brian was phoning people up about creating a new band before he died and that he called Bill being very excited about it. Anyway, back to what i was saying earlier. Also present that night was Frank Thorogood, a minder aggravated after being fired by Brian on the day of his death because he wasn't doing the building work on Brian's house properly. Brian had expressed guilt over having fired him to Anna and worried he had sounded too harsh on Frank so he invited him back for dinner that night (steak and kidney pie). They later took a midnight swim in which Frank ultimately were left alone with Brian after Anna went inside to take a phone call. And ok so Brian was no angel and used to tease Frank calling him "old man" and while in the swimming pool that night he had teased Frank a little and grabbed his ankles dragging him down. Anna says that she left them to answer a call (that turned out to be from a friend of hers in London) and that Brian was in good shape and spirit when she went inside, and that she believes she was inside for a maximum of 10-15 minutes. Also present was Frank's friend (and rumored lover) Janet Lawson that went inside to find Brian's asthma inhalator that he asked her to get. She looked around the house for it and eventually went to the kitchen where she was met by Frank, she described him shaking to the point he hardly being able to light his cigarette and she sensed something was wrong and rushed out to the pool where she saw Brian laying still at the bottom face down. She (unable to swim) started to shout at Frank to help her but he ignored her cries for help and Anna who was upstairs heard Janet scream "something has happened with Brian" and ran down the stairs where she saw Frank standing there "shaking like a leaf" trying to light his cigarette, she then continued running out, jumping in the pool retrieving him from the bottom and trying to get Brian up on the pool edge, which she wasn't strong enough to do, so she screamed at Frank to help her, in which she said in a (swedish) radio documentary in 2008; "I screamed at Frank to come help me, and then after a while he came dawdling, he didn't seem very interested to come and help me.". She and Janet tried to massage Brian's heart and do CPR and Anna didn't want to believe that he was dead so she just kept on trying but when the ambulance showed up he was declared dead. Anna has always maintained that she didn't think Frank killed him intentionally and that it was horseplay in the pool that went wrong. Terribly wrong. This is also supported by Thorogood’s alleged death bed confession to Tom Keylock, the Rolling Stones driver, in 1993. Tom Keylock repeated his friends confession on Crimewatch in 1994 and told Classic Rock magazine; "In 1993 I went to see Frank in hospital and he said: 'It was me that done Brian.' He was very tired. I said: 'I'll come back tomorrow, and [you can] tell me more.' But he died during the night. I never found out the specifics." AND THEN MY FRIENDS at the inquiry both Janet Lawson and Anna Wohlin (separately at different times and occasions) have claimed that the inquiries were under unfair conditions and Janet Lawson broke her 40 year silence and said in sworn testimony to investigative journalist Scott Jones (in which all information in this post from Janet is taken from), shortly before she died of cancer in 2008, about the inquiry; "A pack of lies, the policeman suggested most of what I said. It was a load of rubbish." The inquiries were held at 3-4 am., she was nervous, confused, and mentally and physically exhausted and were told that she were able to give another statement later on when she was in better shape, which was untrue and she never got to give another statement, so she eventually just said "yes" to the suggestions of the police. PC Albert Evans, who was the first officer on the scene, sensed something was wrong upon arriving and later said about Frank; "There was nothing at the time to connect Thorogood with any more. Just feelings." Evans was NOT asked to attend the inquest. A Sussex officer who can't be named but who knows the case very well made claims about how Anna's statement had been produced and said "Wohlin had been given sedatives by the doctor and had to be actually woken up during the interview. The WDC who wrote that statement was told what to write by Bob Marshall (the chief investigation officer). Bob Marshall was controlling it, the evidence that was written down. He was pushing the buttons." Anna herself has also said that she was under sedation and shock. THE WHOLE HANDLING OF THE CASE IS JUST SO STRANGE AND FLAWED.
  • And after the inquiries Anna was given 5 minutes by the Rolling Stones management to gather some stuff from her and Brian's home so they could send her home on a plane back to Sweden, as she said, "I was just a nuisance, I was just a problem. They had to think about the Stones upcoming U.S. tour and they didn't know what I was capable of." She managed to grab some of Brian's clothes and a couple of his hats and then had nothing else but that and the clothes she was wearing and was quickly smuggled out of the house. She has still kept his clothes after all these years, they hang in her closet. It's the only things she has left of Brian, when she a couple of weeks later went back to England and Cotchford Farm to retrieve her and Brian's possessions everything was cleared and gone. She also keeps a portrait of Brian on her windowsill. After returning home in '69 she also discovered that she was pregnant with Brian's child. But had a miscarriage. She has blamed herself for his death, "No.. I should have never gone inside to answer the phone. You know, when it was me swimming in the pool Brian would always make sure to go outside to check on me every 10 minutes to see that I was ok. I should have stayed. It's just a fact, if I had not gone inside, I would have been there and around him, and it would never have happened. I will always blame myself for it." She couldn't even attend Brian's funeral, something she deeply regrets today.
  • How Brian Jones's death has been portrayed in media is so flawed and wrong and it's been 46 years, HE DID NOT DIE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF ALCOHOL AND DRUGS AND I DEMAND JUSTICE FOR BRIAN, HE DESERVES IT. (and if anyone would like me to translate the whole radio documentary with Anna Wohlin let me know)

anonymous asked:

I've been an SM for 4yrs & find socialising very difficult. I'm very friendly but I tend to keep to myself. Pple invite me to things & I always politely decline (I don't even join for opening night drinks). Everyone says that succeeding in this industry has a lot to do with ur connections & because of my social anxiety, I rarely make any. I love my job so much& I'm the type of person who lives to work. I worry my career won't last. Do u think s/b like me could ever have a long/successful career?

The short answer is: yes. You can absolutely have a long and successful career in this industry as someone who has difficulty socializing. However, it would be EXTREMELY difficult to have such a career as someone who NEVER networks.

As somebody with an anxiety disorder, I hear this in a huge way. I don’t want to spend any more time with most of these people than I have to, and I am often in desperate need of some alone time to recharge and it’s not worth shoving through bodies to get an over priced, watered down whiskey by myself, followed by the inevitable overheating and being shoved around or awkwardly standing near a conversation instead of being part of one. It’s always too loud, too many people, too expensive, too sweaty, and I’m too tired to deal with it. I never want to put in the effort to look nice. And even when I do go, I’m too clumsy to say anything ingratiating, and too proud to kiss anyone’s ass. I’m pretty terrible at talking myself up. In fact, without someone else with me I usually forget to talk about me. I’m bad at networking and it doesn’t get me a lot of job offers. However, the offers I do get are because I’m a pretty good engineer, and I’d rather have those offers than ones purely fueled by name recognition and a glass of wine.

Is it considerably easier to get jobs by being good at networking? Sure, for a time, but no matter how well you schmooze, you’ve eventually got to be able to back it up with your skills or technical knowledge. It’s almost machiavellian in a way. It is better to be good at your job than good at schmoozing if both cannot be attained.

Yes, this industry is about connections and networking, but the leg work of that isn’t entirely done at the bar or party. Do good work. Be the best damn stage manager you can be. If you prove that you can get the job done, then the people around you will probably take notice. When they hear someone needs a stage manager, any one of them could drop your name. Be additionally vigilant and proactive when jobs become available. Apply and stretch out. Grow your network in the work place.

Some times you absolutely have to put the time in, though. Putting in a brief appearance at opening and closing parties is smart, if not necessary. If you can power through 10 minutes of it, congratulate the director, producer, etc. and make sure they know your name (or at least hear it) you stand a better chance at being rehired, being offered additional contracts that they control, or of them recognizing your name when you apply for some other gig.

A zombie apocalypse AU (oneshot)

Moving In - KagaKuro Domesticity Weekend Day One!

The day Kuroko moves in with the Fujimaki family, he feels tired. He sits in the car next to Fujimaki Takaya and doesn’t really speak the entire time. His relationship with the general is often defined by their philosophical discussions about literature, but they are just as easy together in silence. The general, more than anyone else in Kuroko’s life, knows just how tired Kuroko is. The boy has tried so hard to forge bonds—with the other Miracles, with humans, with anyone—only to have them severed, time and time again, and he is exhausted.

Kuroko feels somewhat like this move into the Fujimaki household is an escape—like an old time “rest cure” for madness. He feels tired, and numb, and hollow, and a little bit like maybe he should just disappear from everything.

“Oh,” Fujimaki says, his voice strange. It draws Kuroko’s attention, who only looks at the man but doesn’t ask the question. “My children have, apparently, come to visit,” he says, answering Kuroko’s unasked question.

Kuroko has never met the general’s children, and somewhat thought he wouldn’t ever really need to—they were all adults, Fujimaki had explained, moved out and with families or lives of their own.

“Is that… not a good thing?” Kuroko asks, suddenly uncertain. What if they didn’t want him here? What if he was an intrusion after all?

“It is perfectly fine,” Fujimaki says reassuringly, “I had just hoped… well, I was always planning on introducing you, just… after you had the chance to settle.” He looks down at Kuroko after he parks the car and says, “The important thing to remember is that they mean well.”

*

“I BROUGHT CLOTHES AND STUFF.”

“That was very nice of you, Sakura, thank you. We did buy Tetsuya-kun clothes. We also have stuff,” Fujimaki replies calmly.

“YEAH, BUT NOT NICE CLOTHES. YOU AND MOM HAVE NO TASTE.”

“Please do not take this the wrong way, but what are you all doing here?”

“TO MEET TETSUYA. I ALWAYS WANTED A LITTLE BROTHER.”

“Hey! You have a little brother!” Tadashi says indignantly. “I’m your little brother!”

“I WANT A CUTE LITTLE BROTHER.”

“OK, if we’re adopting more siblings, I want a new sister,” Tadashi says.

“Both of you, be quiet,” Hiroki says. “We are trying to make a good impression. Where is Tetsuya-kun?”

“He’s here,” Fujimaki says, calmly. “But I think you’ve frightened him.”

Kuroko doesn’t feel frightened, exactly. But these people are loud, and a little overwhelming, and it has always been his automatic response to fade into the background whenever confronted with something new.

“HEY I FOUND HIM,” Sakura says, almost pouncing on Kuroko when she spots him. Kuroko is a little startled by the discovery—it’s the rare sort of person who can spot him through his Latent Overflow.

“Awesome,” Tadashi says, “Nice to meet you, kid. Let me show you your room. It’s my old room and I’ve stocked it with supplies.”

“What kind of supplies?” Fujimaki asks, sounding vaguely concerned.

“All kinds of supplies,” Tadashi replies enigmatically, tugging on Kuroko.

“Guys, you are doing a terrible job of a good first impression. This is what happens when you lack discipline—”

“SHUT UP, HIROKI,” “No one asked you, Hiroki,” Sakura and Tadashi say at the same time.

This is, all things considered, not something he expected to encounter, and by the end of the day, Kuroko’s energy is drained. It’s a different kind of tired than before, but good.

*

The day Kuroko moves in with Kagami, he feels confident that this is the right choice, but unexpectedly sad.

“Are you sure you still want to do this?” Kagami asks, uncertain, like he has ever since he met the general and his wife.

“Yes, Kagami-kun. This is where I belong,” Kuroko says simply. And that’s all that really matters—for the first time in his life, Kuroko has found somewhere he belongs. He will miss the Fujimakis, and he will always appreciate their kindness, but he doesn’t want to lose this chance. (Kagami would wait, if that’s what Kuroko wanted. But Kuroko doesn’t want to wait. He spent years waiting for his chance to escape Teiko, and he’s done putting off things he wants. Life is too precious to postpone desire).

“OK,” Kagami says, coloring slightly. “If that’s what you want.”

This time, moving in is a quiet affair. He has more stuff this time—books and clothes and a few basketball related things—but it is still quick and when he’s there, Kuroko feels like this is the home he was always meant to have.

*

And even though he’s moved in with Kagami for awhile, it’s a bit like he’s moving in all over again when the Fujimaki siblings finally come to visit.

“SEE? I TOLD YOU THEY WOULDN’T HAVE ANYTHING.”

“They’re dudes, Sakura, of course they—holy crap, man, did you just move in or something?” Tadashi looks around. “Where’s all your stuff?”

“I have stuff,” Kagami defends.

“No, you really don’t,” Hiroki says. “That’s OK, we brought you stuff.”

“We don’t need—”

“HERE’S A PLANT,” Sakura says, handing Kagami a ficus.

“I don’t need a plant?” Kagami says.

“THE PLANT’S NAME IS DONALD.”

“What—why does the plant have an American name?” Kagami says.

“We also brought more chairs and rugs, and Sakura brought some fancy bathroom stuff,” Hiroki says.

“IT’S CALLED SOAP.”

“Your kitchen is surprisingly well-stocked for two dudes living together,” Tadashi says, with an impressed whistle. “Someone knows how to cook. And by someone, I mean obviously Kagami has some hidden depths, because I know it’s not you, Tetsuya.”

“Kagami-kun is very talented,” Kuroko says.

“Get out of our kitchen,” Kagami says.

Kuroko looks at Kagami, not expected the easy way he said “our”—and it fills him with a kind of warmth he’s experienced every day since moving in.

“Obviously I need to visit you guys more,” Tadashi says. “I’ve been mooching off of Hiroki’s wife because Sakura is crap at cooking.”

“COOK FOR YOUR DAMN SELF, TADASHI.”

“How, how often are they going to visit?” Kagami asks Kuroko to the side.

“Not too often,” Kuroko says. “But, I imagine it will always be like this when they do.”

“Christ. I’m going to have to buy more dishes,” Kagami says.

“WE BROUGHT DISHES!” Sakura says helpfully.

It would be hard to explain how happy it makes him: to be in the home he belongs, and still have the important people he’s met still in his life. There was a time when it seemed like everything could be taken away and every bond could be severed. Kagami is the first person who made him realize that wasn’t true, but Kuroko is beginning to see there were people who were trying to teach him that all along.

pls oh great Lanni, write an AU Jyn/Cassian based off of Life As We Know It (hopefully with baby Poe). I would appreciate it greatly, as I am suffering from Jyn/Cassian withdrawals. tysm

Okay, I think you were wanting something cute and sweet and this…is not it. I’ve admittedly never seen the movie, “Life as We Know It”, so I had to read the plot on Wikipedia. I didn’t think this was my kind of fic…and then I read a handful of single parent AUs and suddenly got emotional about it. I’ve decided this is going to be a two parter (…maybe three, but no more than that) since I’m impatient. This first part is definitely angsty as it deals with grief and mourning. I don’t kill off characters so I was sad. And Jyn and Cassian are so like the poster children for angst. Don’t worry; there will be some cute and light moments as well! I just had to deal with my own grief apparently while writing this.

Summary: After the unexpected deaths of their mutual best friends, Cassian and Jyn must work together despite their differences to help raise their friends’ two year-old son. Of course, what neither one of them anticipated was how their own relationship would change from a tense friendship to something much more.

precious and fragile things
part one

I was on the phone with her when they died.

Cassian pulled his face out of his hands and sat up straight in the pew. When was the last time he had come to church that wasn’t death related? Even his job required it, except it had never been personal then. He felt haunted by the biblical scenes in the stained glass windows and had difficulty looking forward, as if he might catch eyes with the one of the statues and be judged terribly. His own eyes were dark and guarded, the bags under them more prominent than normal. Anyone that glanced at him would immediately skid their eyes away. He preferred it that way. He didn’t think he could take anyone’s pity right now.

“Hey,” a quiet voice whispered to his left.

When Cassian looked over, he saw that it was Jyn. She appeared torn between looking wary and nervous. Two very different emotions in his opinion, but maybe that just came from years of doing interrogations. This was not the time for him to analyze what her facial expression meant, but he couldn’t help himself. It was second nature to him and, quite frankly, helped him retreat into his mind for a brief moment.

Without saying anything, he scooted over on the pew and allowed her to sit down next to him. She swept the back of her modest black dress under her legs as she sat down. He had never seen her so quiet or still before, although he could tell by the slight bounce of her left foot that she was indeed nervous or at the very least uncomfortable. Her eyes darted around the church like she’d never been in one before, overwhelmed by the vastness and piety of it all. It caused her to press her lips into a thin line and hunk down further in her seat than him.

Jyn was not a quiet woman. From the moment he’d first met her on what could only be described as a blind date of doomsday disaster proportions, he had realized that. It had grated on his nerves for the longest time. She had a worse mouth than a sailor, was not afraid to state her opinion even if it caused awkward moments, and was brash in the kind of way that drove people that actually cared about her mad. Granted, he’d accidentally insulted her profession before realizing she was a crime journalist, but he was a cop, so it was only natural.

Today though she was almost deathly quiet. Cassian closed his eyes. He hadn’t meant to think of it like that, not with the two caskets up front, and shame flared in his gut. It had taken a few years, but he and Jyn had learned to become civil with one another, perhaps almost friends, for the sake of their best friends. Cassian remembered thinking it was unfortunate, terrible luck that the very friend who set him up on a blind date with Jyn began to date the friend that set Jyn up with him. He hadn’t wanted to deal with a woman that he considered difficult and aggressive. And yet, as time went on and their friends got married, those concerns became less and less.

He still wouldn’t say that they were close, but right now, strangely, she was probably the only person in the room that he could tolerate sitting beside him.

i guess we’re kinda upgrading to college now??? idk

•the first time ruby does poorly on an assignment in college she cries for 4 hours about how she’s gonna be a stripper for the rest of her life

•liam tries to calm her down to no avail like “this is the first time ever in your life you’ve done bad on something it’ll be okay soon you’ll learn to do poorly and take it in stride like the rest of us” and she cries harder bc that indicates she’s gonna do terribly again

•when he asks what she got he has to physically hold himself back from laughing when she looks up at him with tears running down her face and says “B minus”

•she’s been crying for the last hour and a half over a B minus. she thinks her fate is stripping because of a B minus. this bitch.

•chubs ends up being the one who calms her down because in typical chubs fashion he just gives it to her straight and slaps the sense back into her

•"well if you don’t want another B minus, why are you wasting time crying over the one you can’t change? go spend the time you’re wasting right now on the rest if your work and make sure it doesn’t happen again.“

•she stops crying, nods and gets up to go do her work

•liam just stares in shock at the fact that chubs just did in 3 sentences what he’d been trying to do for 3 hours

•"sometimes you make me feel like a really shitty boyfriend, chubs”

•one night they set up a study date and liam’s like “what are we gonna study” and she goes “i don’t know…i need to work on biology” and he thinks he’s about to get lucky but that hope quickly dies when she actually brings her giant binder of notes and her textbook and falls asleep next to him at 10:30

•all his friends make fun of him for being whipped and he’s just like “wow i love and respect my girlfriend you really got me good what a burn 🙄🙄🙄”

•when she was on her period in high school she used to be able to kinda avoid him if she wanted to be left alone but now they live a floor apart and spend a good 70% of their time together so he kinda has to learn to handle her when she’s hormonal, cramping, and angry at him because he’s a man and has never had to go trough this

•he learns pretty quickly but the one thing he never quite figured out is if she actually wants him to touch her or not

•like sometimes when she’s laying in bed cramping he’ll try to cuddle and she nearly bites his head off but half an hour later she’s crying because he doesn’t want to touch her

•he’s mortified the first time she sends him on a tampon run

•not because “ew gross tampons periods disgusting” just because there’s SO MANY and he doesn’t know which one to get

•he calls his mom, naturally

•when she doesn’t know what kind ruby uses he calls ruby’s mom

•"Liam! how are you sweetie?“
“um hi mrs daly i’m good. but um, this is a weird question but i was wondering if you know what kind of tampons ruby uses. she sent me to the store and i don’t know what i’m doing.”
*queue ruby’s mom laughing for 12 minutes*
“the black box with the pink swirls honey”
“thanks mrs daly”

•they move in together after liam’s 3rd and ruby’s 2nd year

•they invite chubs to move in with them but he moves out after six months because “i’m tired of third wheeling in my OWN HOME”

•it was one thing to be sexiled from a dorm room he could just go to vidas and spend the night but to come home to your roommates having sex on the kitchen counter, where you eat off of,, no.

•they agree to wait until after they’re both done with college (which ends up being the same time since ruby took so many ap’s in high school) to get married bc that’s a lot of added stress and marriage is really just a title they live together and do all the things married couples do anyways by the end of college

•but by second semester senior year liam starts getting //really// impatient he knows what they said but he bought a ring last year and has carried it around with him all the time since then

•as soon as they’re out of the building where graduation was held he’s down one one knee and ruby rolls her eyes because wow impatient much but when he asks she says yes

Chapter 90 Thoughts

Mixed indeed. I was giddy when I first saw the spoiler images of the kids happily playing in the ocean, but the feeling lasted for maybe half an hour before everything else kicked in.

This chapter left me anxious for reasons I can’t quite put my finger on. Maybe it’s because of how often we get hit over the head with some heavy themes, like the pressing need to prevent a hellish history from repeating itself, and pondering if true freedom is really possible.

Seriously, it’s brought up a good three times by different people in different situations. Isayama may as well be spelling it out for the readers at this point to emphasize its importance for future events. Each time it’s mentioned, it’s coupled by an explanation as to what causes this cursed history to repeat.

In the opening pages, Pixis points out that hiding the truth would be a cause. They would be no different from the royals of the past 100 years.

The senior journalist Levi and Hange converse with sees the cause stemming from dehumanizing people. He wonders if it will only end if all the Eldians are killed, as their enemies so desire.

Eren thinks to himself that it will inevitably happen from failing to drastically change the situation. Change which usually comes in the form of great personal sacrifice.

Look I really don't want to be a hater but it's blogs like this which are so negative about everything that ruin things. Sorry it's my opinion but surely you can see even a little where I'm coming from ... Why can't we try to keep things positive people have different opinions and ships that fine but to knock down other people's opinions is just wrong. What do you get out of spreading hate There are a number of characters in many a show that I truly can't stand but I don't run hate blogs

Look I really don’t want to be a hater but it’s blogs like this which are so negative about everything that ruin things.

Wrong. Try again. It’s people like YOU that ruin things when we just have a venting space about a ship/character(s) we can’t fucking stand.

Why can’t we try to keep things positive people have different opinions and ships that fine but to knock down other people’s opinions is just wrong.

I don’t invade tags to ‘knock down’ any opinions. I don’t talk shit about real people. (Unlike the CSers in the fandom. Natch.) And I sure as hell don’t invade people’s inboxes. (Unlike you. Natch.) So you can bite me.

What do you get out of spreading hate

I get the satisfaction that my very existence of this blog annoys the CS fandom. It’s great.

There are a number of characters in many a show that I truly can’t stand but I don’t run hate blogs

I’m so fucking tired of annoying people like you pretending to be some kind of ‘peace keeper’ for the fandom. IT’S NOT HAPPENING. I don’t want to be friends with the CSers. At least not the one’s who treat the rest of us like shit.

I don’t want to be nice about a ship that triggers me.

I don’t want to be nice about a character who is fucking emotionally abusive towards his fiance. (Ugh.)

I’M DONE BEING NICE. And I’m not going to stop running this blog, just because you don’t like that I hate something that…. Well, let’s face it….. You probably love and think is the most best thing since…. Well, any other terribly written ship on television.

Now…. Shoo out of this inbox and don’t return.
