let’s talk about maryse in this scene:

look at how she looks between magnus and max. she’s obviously using this interaction to judge magnus, but i think it’s in a different way. maryse has only ever seen magnus in a professional kind of context, never in a personal one. i think she understands that magnus is here to stay - which was alec’s goal - and now she wants to assess magnus in this new light. of course her shadowhunter prejudices are all there, but this is primarily a mother trying to get to know who is this person entering their lives.

and then there’s this look:

she sees the smile on alec’s face and i can see something changing in her. there’s toughness and also softness in her eyes. she can see that her son is actually happy, and that the man he is falling in love/is in love/loves is sweet and kind. and there is a ghost of a smile on her face as well. it obviously doesn’t solve all the problems, but maybe it’s a start?

honestly i praise nicola for her acting, it’s so subtle and yet so deep. i hope there’s a chance for a redeeming arc for maryse.

We all know how Sportacus gets speeding tickets in Lazytown.

We all jokingly assumed that it’s because he’s a speed junkie or ticketed himself for going one mile over the speed limit, but this is Lazytown. The only character we see driving a car regularly is Stingy, who always drives slowly. Assuming he’s obeying the speed limit, then we know that Lazytown’s speed limit must be based on walking speed. The average human walking speed is 3 miles per hour while the average jogging speed is between 6 and 8. Imagine Sportacus getting a speeding ticket for jogging at 8 miles per hour (12 kph)!

The first time: “You’re giving me a speeding ticket because I’m jogging?”

YOI Future!Verse ABO AU, Visual Headcanon Web Charts #01

So I always wanted to make one of these. Turns out my headcanons for the most part are WAY too wordy for these things and uh, they’re a bit of a mess >.>;; BUT I hope nonetheless that they’re somewhat fun to read even if barely legible, it was fun to make ^ ^;

1. Super basic relationship chart of the core members of the lovely poly family in this AU.

2. “Adults Think,” the color of each adult indicates their feelings towards the person to whom the arrow is pointing.

3. “Kids Think,” the color of each OC kid indicates their feelings towards the person to whom the arrow is pointing.

There’s obviously a lot more to it than what could be crammed in the lil text boxes, but a gist and pretty much the first things that immediately popped into my mind regarding their interactions. 2 and 3 also mostly show their thoughts while the kids are younger, which will change a bit as they grow up, to be covered in a future post.

*Recommended you right click view image to see full size bc the text is tiny oops

Because the text is so illegible, text only versions of charts 2 and 3 beneath cut, all elaborated quite a bit because I’m so rambly oops:

~~

IF YOU ARE NEW TO THIS AU: It’s Yuuri-centric polyamory in an ABO setting, Yuuri’s married to four mates (Victor, Yurio, Phichit, Minami) and they have OC kids.

I've read your posts on female armor, and it really helped me with designing armor for my female superhero, but I have a concern: would wearing a flat breastplate inhibit a well-endowed woman? It almost seems like it would make it hard for her to breathe, especially if she's bigger and taller than average (my character stands at 6' 2")

That… is an anime gag.

There are medical conditions which can cause this, but if there’s breathing issues then that’s a clothing issue and if the armor is causing you to be short of breath then… the armor is useless and not doing its job.

Corsets and any sort of binding that doesn’t allow the lungs/chest cavity/ribs/diaphragm to expand will cause shortness of breath in… either gender. It is historically more common in women because of, well, fashion. You didn’t need to be well-endowed to fall prey to the whale-bone corsets of the 18th century. (Which also led to miscarriages.)

The argument you’re referring to is one common among fanboys, primarily as a justification for boobplate and the fetishistic armor choices for female superheroes. For all it’s claims to realism, it has zero bearing on reality.

The weight of your boobs doesn’t make you short of breath or hamper your ability to breathe. It can, in some cases, be painful during high energy activities when they’re bouncing around but the solution is called a sports bra. (Besides, big boobs can disappear fast depending on the type of activity. You ever seen runners or professional female athletes in almost… well, anything? Muscle burns fat, and your chest muscles will start with your chest. No fat, they shrink.)

The Most Common Superpower joke is that women get to keep theirs and stay conventionally attractive when engaging in highly aerobic activity.

If we want to start with the issue in the presentation of female action heroes it begins here. (And that men, and some women, usually don’t understand how breasts work.) Or have this idea the issue has never been addressed because women don’t participate in sport activity anyway.

Breasts. Are. Just. There.

She’s a superhero. Her armor is custom designed. If whoever made her armor didn’t take into account the size of her chest or provide support then they are crappy at their job and armor design in general.

The issues we run into with armor is when it is either:

A) Not yours. Or..

B) One size fits all, but you’d still be able to function in it.

If you can’t move in the armor then that’s an issue that needs to be addressed at a design level but it’s not insurmountable. This is why armorers and tailors exist.

Besides, if the other option you’re considering is boob plate then that wouldn’t solve the issue. I guarantee boob plate is more uncomfortable, and will guide weapon points straight to your heart. This is an argument I’ve seen brought up a lot (by men) to justify the existence of boobplate or going without armor for “realism”. It is not only BS, it’s annoying. It ignores both reality (female combatants of history) and human ingenuity to prop up outdated sexism. It’s like they think female athletes never address the issues of their chest size. Well, I’m here to tell you: we already solved this one and it’s called a sports bra. In the real world, we get a bras that are designed to support the weight of our boobage during athletic activities.

Women can, however, STILL RUN without problems with a regular bra or even no support at all.

You, however, may want to address the underlying sexism nipping at your approach to this character. If you genuinely believe cramming big breasts into a tactical vest is going to cause breathing issues then you’ve got a lot of your own to work out. That is also the problem with sexism. The misinformation is so baked into every bit of common knowledge meant to justify a certain sexist approach then held up as realistic that most people never think about it.

Again, the kind of breathing issues we’re talking about come from corsets and not armor. A corset tightens your waist, and will result in issues because of the diaphram/stomach can’t expand. When performing aerobic exercise, you need your diaphragm (thus expanding your ribs) to breathe. The diaphragm allows more air to pass through your body, which means more oxygen in your blood being carried to your muscles. Without them, you’re stuck breathing entirely with your upper chest, and that will be a problem when engaging in athletic activity. If the expansion of the chest is also cut off, then… you’re really up a creek. This is what causes the fainting fits of the 18th century. Women wearing clothing that doesn’t allow them to draw enough oxygen into their bodies to keep their brains cognizant.

It’s also why you never want to bind your breasts with anything like Ace bandages because Ace bandages are designed to continually constrict around an injury and create pressure to halt the blood flow. They can tighten so much that they crack the breastbone or the ribcage, and that is what causes shortness of breath rather than the breasts themselves being bound.

You don’t get this problem if you bind with just cloth, but it’s also shit for support.

Breathing issues are a problem for men when they wear clothing styles that ensure their diaphragms can’t expand or just don’t breathe with their diaphragm when fighting.

If her armor causing shortness of breath then that’s not armor, it’s fetish gear. It may be great for a bondage session but it’s not meant to be worn combat. (And if what she’s wearing is causing shortness of breath anyway, then she just needs to stop wearing it. That’s still the fault of her clothing and not her breasts.)

Besides, a woman with large breasts would have issues finding bras that fit her anyway and would probably be specially ordering them. Most malls and sports stores have bras for A, B, C, and some D but not a lot. DD’s can have trouble finding comfortable breastwear, especially ones in the six foot range.

How does cashless society work?

If there is one post to this tumblr I want to see reblogged like crazy, it’s this one.

So how would a cashless society work? This is, IMHO, one of the most important questions to ask when discussing Star Trek in general.

Roddenberry had a vision which continues to motivate and inspire people today, because it envisioned humanity so far beyond its time. It allowed the show to craft an ideal. Something that may never be completely achieved, but that should be strived for continually. Providing not a roadmap, but a light to follow.

Social issues are incredibly important, and are not to be understated when discussing this specific topic- they are the fundamental ideals within the Star Trek universe. But close behind this is the concept of economic enlightenment. In fact, I would argue they are fundamentally one in the same. In order for us to find love among all of us, without any hate or envy or fear, we need to find means of providing for everyone, so that everyone can be given the same opportunities to choose how they live their lives.

One aspect of this Roddenberry version of a fair and enlightened global society would be one with no cash.

But How Does That Work?

How, can anything work without cash? Or to clarify, money? I don’t believe it could right now, but in the future, if certain issues were solved, we could be well on our way. Here are three aspects of our society that will need to be addressed or achieved before we would even be close:

1. There needs to be a movement to Post-Scarcity

People need to have easy access to homes, health, and the basic comforts that money currently is required to attain.

There’s a lot of talk about a “post-scarcity” economy. With 3d-printers, efficient production, and global access to information we are already moving towards this. But one big hurdle in this issue is energy. Until we find a means of providing nearly limitless energy to the entire planet, a post-scarcity society will be very hard to maintain. (Cold fusion is an exciting potential leap forward)

2. Automation for the dangerous jobs and Universal Basic Income

We need robots to do the repetitive and dangerous jobs people shouldn’t do or just don’t want to do. The more these jobs are taken up by robots, the more there will be a need for a Universal Basic Income. The general concept is this: companies that produce goods while removing jobs from the market will need to pay tax on the robots that were once paying jobs. The money will then be given to the citizens as a dividend. This will eventually be the foundation for providing a universal live-able distribution of resources to everyone.

3. Debt needs to be reversed

The final issue is debt will need to be removed from society. This is arguably the hardest to understand and I imagine even harder to implement. Our current understanding of economics runs on debt. Person A gives money to Person B so that person B can make more money and give back that money (plus interest) to person A. The problem is this seems to allow the money to be consolidated into large pools. Currently the top 8 richest people in the world hold more wealth than the bottom half.

We need a way to believe in a society that can work in reverse. A society where we pay it forward, rather than pay it back. This is where I haven’t fully understood the ideas being proposed. But one thing is certain, those in the top 1% will need to provide for those in need for this to ever work. There needs to be a rational, if not spiritual enlightenment among the richest in the world that we need to all have a place in society. A place unburdened by overwhelming fiscal obligation. When people don’t owe money, they can make the choices that benefit themselves and the rest of us at the same time. Rather than the choice that just makes them money.

I honestly think this is the biggest hurdle out of all of them. Because while the other issues can be solved with technological and political progress, this one truly requires a global enlightenment. Yes things like bitcoin and ethereum might help, but this is a bigger problem than just banking access and credit.

*Takes Deep Breath*

So that’s one take on Roddenberry’s vision of a cashless society. It’s something I truly hope comes to fruition.  A world where people are secure in knowing they have access to healthcare, a home, and the ability to pursue their passion. A world where all its people are freed to be their best self. Where creativity and science and kindness have priority. Orchestras could play in the park for free. Artists could make paintings of anything for anyone they wish. Scientists can spend their time inventing what they believe will help the planet the most. And we can finally get to the business of exploring the stars.

We all know how Damian tends to use the people he considers friends (or allies). But once, he did this to Tim.

He needed someone with Tim’s strengths and needed that dedicated to the mission full time. So he “gifted” Tim with some Turkish coffee shortly after the man actually had a full night’s rest while he pitched the parameters of the case.

The result? Tim stayed awake for nearly two weeks straight and solved Damian’s case, as well as five other cold cases in the batcomputer’s files before Alfred flushed the remaining coffee and Dick injected Tim with a sedative to knock him out.

Damian’s “requests” for help now have to be submitted via email, where Bruce can view them for approval.

i've been repeatedly called offensive for pointing out the non existence of reverse racism to my WHITE british teachers. I straight up told them they couldn't be oppressed, they seriously "offended" and it is going to a) affect my grades bc i made a presentation on it and my teacher got mad b) possibly get me in a ton of trouble because another teacher reported me to the head of school. I genuinely hate white people at this point and i want them to go away forever.

Well I don’t know how to solve the issues of your teachers and school but I can back you up on the other crap they’re denying. Expect a long post.

So, let’s take a look at this reverse racism lol. Sorry, it makes me laugh whenever white people bring it up because first of all, society and the systems and institutions that create it were built to cater to white people because they had the most power (and still do). It is necessary to understand these power structures and once we understand them, we will see that reverse racism in fact does NOT exist because white people are not oppressed in any systematic way or form.

The demographics in America are indeed changing but society is still assumed to be white and therefore, systems and institutions are still built to cater towards white people, giving them an advantage. This is known as white privilege. And it doesn’t matter if a white person’s life is economically tough because economics is only ONE factor that plays into the course of an entire lifetime. A single factor is not enough to offset white privilege that has been awarded to white people for hundreds of years that continue today. Let’s look at some resources…

Reverse Racism:

White Privilege:

Now let’s look at your British teachers and what their ancestors did:

I can go all day with this but you get the idea.

And not that I’m trying to put the spotlight on Germany but the atrocities of World War II are taught to German children in school with “great depth” and is mandatory. Now if white people were taught and actually understood about all the crimes their ancestors did, how it all benefits them today, and how it all spills over in today’s world (especially in America), then perhaps white people would be a little more sympathetic to and understanding of everyone else, instead of denying everything.

You see, white America does everything it can to erase all the atrocities it committed (even those being committed today) while conditioning white people to deny when said atrocities are brought up. It is both erasure and denial of white supremacy, white privilege, colonialism, genocide, racism, and many other things that keep white people in power and the rest of us oppressed. In fact, the moment white people see such terms, they automatically become defensive and harbor a state of denial, which is proof of their conditioning.

What was Hyperdontia and Novocaine about?

I keep getting this question a lot, and I’ll admit it’s preeeeeeeeeetty vague so I thought I’d explain it here! Of course this doesn’t mean people can’t make their own interpretations, I’m just sharing since the question is getting asked so much.

The Pepsi Marketing Team: A dialogue

Scene: Three white dudes sitting around a meeting table, at Pepsi HQ.

Marketing dude 1: So guys, I’ve been thinking, protests are huge right now. How about we integrate protests into our commercial concept?

Marketing dude 2: Great idea, Chad! Man, what is all that protesting about anyway?

CHAD: I have no idea Bryce, but its HOT.

Marketing dude 3: You know what else is HOT? The Kardashians.

CHAD: Good thinking, Brad. So how can we put it all together?

BRYCE: I’ve got it guys. So here’s the scene, a protest , right–

CHAD, interjecting: — not political though, like, just a protest

BRYCE: (excitedly) yeah, yeah exactly. A protest is going on, and then switch scenes– Kendall is doing a photo shoot—

BRAD: –You know she’s a model?

CHAD: Wow, so hard-working.

BRYCE: –anyway she sees the protest. And she’s like, so “woke” right–

BRAD: –Woke?

CHAD: That’s a hot phrase right now.

BRAD: What does it mean?

BRYCE: It means like, “trendy”, but with politics or whatever.

CHAD: That doesn’t sound quite right.

BRYCE: Whatever. ANYWAY, So Kendall is like “oh a protest!” and the crowd of protesters approach a wall of police–

BRAD (excitedly) : in riot gear???!

CHAD: No no, not riot gear, we don’t want to make the police look bad.

BRYCE: Ok yeah. they’re monitoring peacefully. and the protesters are all happy and dancing.

CHAD: yeah man, I went to Coachella once, and that’s totally like a protest, so we can do like a Coachella aesthetic.

BRAD: Nice.

BRYCE: OK ok guys so here’s the kicker right? Kendall joins the protest, and she’s got a Pepsi, right? And so she walks up to one of the police, and she gives him a Pepsi- and then like, the protest is solved!

BRAD: OH man that is SO good

CHAD: Bryce you are a genius.

(A manager pokes his head into the meeting room)

MANAGER:  Hey guys, what have you got for me so far?

CHAD: Well, we’ve got a kind of “Pepsi solves World Peace” vibe going.

MANAGER: That sounds pretty good– hey make sure you throw some “diversity” in there, ok? Our market testing numbers show that people like that.

CHAD: Yeah of course- already on it!

(Manager smacks the door frame twice, then leaves)

BRAD: Well…. Kendall is like… not white, right?

BRYCE: I’m not sure dude, but “Kardashian” doesn’t sound white

CHAD: “Jenner” does though….

BRAD: ok ok, we’ll find a way to get some diversity in there. We can ask Areeb from product management!

BRYCE: Nice.

CHAD: Ok so the idea is; An apolitical protest is going on– for world peace or something– and Kendall sees it while she is modeling. And she’s so “woke” so she leaves her shoot to join the cause. She’s like, just another person, “just like everyone else” type of deal.

Cut in Coachella scenes- but like– with diversity– she moves through the crowd, she’s got the Pepsi, and she brings the Pepsi to the police.

BRAD: The upstanding professional “serve and protect-ors”

CHAD: Exactly. So she brings the Pepsi to the police and the vibe is, like, a peace-offering

BRYCE: World peace is solved

BRAD: World peace is solved!

CHAD: nice work everyone. I’ll make a powerpoint.
