I love your oc Hunter! His design is so fun and energetic. I totally lost it when I saw he's vietnamese because I am too!! Do you have a fact sheet about him or something? I'd love to learn more about his personality and interests ♡

Aww thank you for loving him!! <3 That makes me so happy to hear because Vietnamese representation is also really important to me as well! T_T

At the moment, I don’t have any proper kind of trivia sheet prepared… maybe these screencaps of some random unorganized notes about him will do? LOL

Yuri on Ice interview translation - PASH! 2017/03 (p10-11)

The second part of the episode commentary by Mitsurou Kubo! I have now fixed it with all the italic & bold parts as in the magazine (in the magazine they are actually bold & bolder). If you have any questions please send me a private message and I’ll reply when I have some time.

You can find the first commentary about episodes 1-6 here.

Just a note: when she quotes lines from the episodes I’m not using any of the “official” English translations, I’m translating them as I would translate them myself, so they might not be like you are used to hear them, but I think you will understand which lines they are anyway.

The translation is under the cut because it’s long.

***If you wish to share this translation please do it by reblogging or posting a link to it***

***Re-translating into other languages is ok but please mention that this post is the source***

(p1) whilst we're on the topic of receipts, me and my mum had coffee with her old bff the other day. he was down for the weekend & he's like, trained (he's super secretive about it idk its weird I think he's big in the security business or something), but he noticed straight away that my mum wasn't wearing her engagement ring. he also saw my rainbow direction wristband. he grinned at me and he was like 'lemme take a pic of that I wanna send it to my friends who'll appreciate it'...

Anonymous said to shadyshit91:(p2) I was shook because that was so vague wtf??? I was sat there listening to the convo all the way through the coffee but I wasn’t paying attention y’know because J (lets call him that), wtf that’s so shady!!! (made me think of you lol). His phone pinged a few times, but then again towards the end and it made him pay more attention. He had this weird lil smile on his face and he looked like he was tryna decide something for a few seconds before he just handed his phone to me.

Anonymous said to shadyshit91:(p3) long story short the bastard texted the picture of my fucking rainbow wristband to louis. The first reply text was like… ‘wait a sec, mate, H is working. it’s really busy here’. The second one looked like he’d gotten two minutes to send back a proper text. Well, actually, when I say proper text, he’d sent three in a row ‘wtf mate’, ‘that is sick!’. ‘one sec I’ll show H.’ then a longer one ‘just got him out of rehearsals, he said its just like his! Love it. Tell her thanks. Means a lot x’

Anonymous said to shadyshit91:(P4) anyways he referenced rehearsals and harry working so I’m assuming he means snl rehearsals which kind of works with the pizza guy rumour and the timing of lou’s voice at the end of that clip. I almost cried I swear it which obviously l was like… lol we’re always right everything is so predictable. Never really liked J all that much, but when I got home I had a whole new respect for him! <3

I can’t know if it’s legit or not but it’s cute so…. Thanks x

Davai! (Or why Otayuri actually wins the world)

(Tweets by @Aki_the_Geek)

I’ve been thinking a lot about this comment of Kubo-sensei’s. It’s just the most adorable thing I have read in a while. I am not the biggest Otayuri fan, but only mostly because they’re seriously too young for me at this point. I do like their tandem, however, and I am enjoying the attention they are getting recently with the official photos and everything.

This comment, though, just paints such a cute picture for me: Otabek as a god of victory, like a mystical butterfly who ignores and flits past everyone else but chooses to rest on one particular mortal’s shoulder and bless him with strength and victory.

Listen, this is what is great about what Kubo-sensei said. Yuuri Katsuki has the gold rings that connect him to Viktor as his lucky charm - we know this. BUT! Yuri Plisetsky’s lucky charm, on the other hand, is Otabek Altin.

Yuri’s a great character. He is an angry teenager, but also a talented one who has big dreams and the actual skills to achieve those dreams. From the very beginning, we know this. It was even a point he has above Yuuri Katsuki.

He aims to win and does not see what others might consider obstacles. So what if it will be his first Grand Prix? He’s awesome. He won the juniors series. He can win as a senior, too.

Yuri, however, is also very immature. He is pretty poor at expressing himself and seems to shortcut through having to process most personal encounters and interactions by just being angry all the time. Affection for others embarrasses him, which is why he gets so high-strung around Viktor and Yuuri.

(I can’t really blame the kid, though. Those two just have no chill. They’re embarrassing.)

Interestingly though, Yuri seemed to calm down after Otabek came in the picture. It’s a complete 180. Yuri still had that passion, but somehow it became more tempered, less angry and more focused - so much so that the moment Otabek came in, Yuri broke a world record and then proceeded to win his first Grand Prix Final.

I am not saying that it is Otabek’s doing, like an actual god of victory. That would be ridiculous, and it’s more an expression than anything else. The timing is just pretty neat, and isn’t that how people develop lucky charms in the first place? You happen to have them right at the moment of a great win. It is also not as if Otabek was completely useless. He did provide a friend to Yuri, who thus far had been going on without someone he can actually call a friend. Everyone around him were either older than him, a competitor, a mentor or a teacher. I think Otabek calmed Yuri down by reminding him that he can just be himself… well, a cool version of himself anyway. Yuri actually sort of acted his age with Otabek around. For instance, this?

I thought Yuri was kind of cool-guy-posing here - you know, acting chill, even looks kind of smug. Lol, this reminded me so much of my younger brother when he was about Yuri’s age. He was such a useless brat at home and was pissed off at everything and nothing 99% of the time, but the moment his friends came over or one of them called him on the phone, he sort of became this cool version of himself - wittier, sharper, less fidgety. Lmao, his voice even became deeper. Smh at these boys…

What I also love about Otabek’s character is that he reminds us of Yuri’s name. Names are a big deal, okay, and I thought that Yuri being Yurio was kind of like him being a secondary character to Yuuri Katsuki - Yuuri #2, if you will. Ever since episode 2, Yuri is Yurio, and for every episode hence, he is Yurio. It was actually a bit of a shock to me when Otabek yelled this out in episode 11:

I was literally, “Oh yeah, that’s Yurio’s name.” I know Yakov and Lilia call Yurio by his name, but somehow it was when Otabek was calling him by this did Yurio become Yuri to me again. My theory is that it is Otabek’s manner, this I-know-you-call-him-Yurio-and-I-don’t-care-because-his-name-is-Yuri attitude he has going, that is somehow more convincing than anyone else. It is as if no one else matters in his world than Yuri Plisetsky. It is ridiculous to call him by anything other than his name because to Otabek, Yuri is Yuri #1. He probably calls Yuuri “the other Yuri”, “the Japanese Yuri” or just plain “Katsuki”.

So yeah, Otabek enters Yuri’s life and now Yuri has that source of affirmation that is outside family, who is a peer and even a close contemporary. He is no longer fighting alone. Yuri’s a strong guy, but he is still a kid, and at that age people can be quite vulnerable. No 15-year-old is so self-sufficient and self-confident that they can stand on their own at all times - at least not to my knowledge. That is why I love this friendship and why I love that Otabek came along. I think his coming triggered something that Yuri has long been building throughout the series but has yet to stabilize - his strength, his growth, his maturity as a skater as well as a person.

And actually, Yuri did win in the end. I think the series did not celebrate Yuri’s win enough and admittedly, even I was on such a high during those last weeks of the show that I could not be happy for him all that much. Episode 11? I couldn’t get over Yuri’s world record; I did not want to see Viktor dethroned. By episode 12, I still couldn’t look Yuri in the face. I was bitter about his world record and I was bitter about Yuuri Katsuki not winning the Grand Prix.

BUT, it’s time to face it: Yuri Plisetsky is amazing. He won the GPF on his senior debut. He beat a world record. His coach is obviously grooming him to be the next Viktor Nikiforov, and actually, the series has been hinting at it before hitting us on the face with it in episode 11 - Yuuri Katsuki is not the next Viktor Nikiforov, but Yuri Plisetsky is. What is more amazing is that he might even surpass Viktor, especially with Yuuri Katsuki as his main rival. Viktor never really had that one rival to push him up further than he thinks he can. We are told that his wins had wide margins from his other competitors. Viktor only had himself to beat each and every time. Yuri, on the other hand, won by a hair’s width and he knows it. He is even more driven now. He will push himself harder than Viktor ever had pushed himself, and that just might tip the scale a little bit more to future Yuri’s favor.

As for Otabek? Nah, he actually does not need to do anything. He is a lucky charm; he just needs to exist. With him around, Yuri is stable, and that’s all that this talented monster skater needs really.

Lol, look at this guy just watching his favorite so proudly:

“I’m not really needed here, but fuck if I’m not staying put to watch and join the cheering.”

Otayuri actually has a lot more going for them, future-wise. They are young, they are talented, and where Viktor and Yuuri are still struggling and see-sawing between victories and losses, Otayuri actually kept a steady climb. We already know and mentioned Yuri’s wins, but Otabek was also actually that steady character from the very beginning who skated well without question and was even the first to qualify for the GPF.

So, yes. In case you are asking, Otayuri is, in fact, the real power couple of the show.

Lmao, TL;DR - Otayuri just trumped Viktuuri and ultimately even stole their gold. The secondary OTP lowkey just beat the main OTP and I, albeit a hardcore Viktuuri shipper and just an Otayuri bystander at best, still find that really hilarious.

I have to hand it to YOI’s writers - they’re fucking brillliant.

They knew exactly how to draw in a fanbase and they utilized some really recognizable yaoi/BL tropes. It put some people on edge, sure, and they probably knew that they’d alienate a portion of their fans from the start by using them, but then they took the opportunity, 10 episodes in, to recontextualize literally everything. 10 episodes in which we know so much about Yuuri and we’ve seen his relationship with Viktor develop so much. 10 episodes, where everyone who’s still watching still remembers that iffy beginning but we trust the writers enough because they’re doing so well now…

And they gave us a 2-minute credit gag, canonized in the show itself, of a drunken night of dance-offs, that managed to recontextualize every single sketchy trope they used earlier.

Viktor had had this awesome, amazing night with this drunken dork who got completely hammered and railroaded the entire banquet for the sake of a dance-off where he begged Viktor to be his coach if he won said dance-off. And this kid, who did awfully at the GPF, was actually fucking amazing on the dance floor, and Viktor was probably thinking “fuck I just might”

But then then at the airport, when Viktor tries to get Yuuri’s attention again, Yuuri brushes him off. It’s not Viktor being a self-absorbed “oh everybody loves me” famous skater - he actually remembered what a good time he and Yuuri had at the banquet and was probably trying to get a good sober picture of this ridiculous boy.

Now Viktor’s probably thinking that it didn’t mean anything, that Yuuri would’ve asked any of the top skaters to be his coach, that Viktor was just there and ended up being targeted by coincidence…up until that video comes up. And after the banquet? That mimic-skate probably read like a goddamn love letter. (I mean, from Yuuri’s perspective, it kind of was, but he never had any intention of actually giving said letter to Viktor.) So Viktor says fuck it, this kid did win that dance-off and he actually has amazing talent on the ice and has so much potential and goddammit coaching sounds fun and even if it doesn’t go well he’ll at least get to be around this sexy pole/stripper/break-dancing dork and that sounds like a fair trade, okay?

So he flies his ass to Japan now knowing that Yuuri’s family owns a hot spring and just shows up because lol why the fuck not. And he thinks Yuuri remembers that night. Sure, Viktor can buy that Yuuri’s much more open when he’s drunk and he’s just shy and reserved because he’s sober, but Viktor’s already aware that Yuuri has this sexy, seductive side to him and he tries to coax it out of Yuuri by being seductive right back at him. It’s complete payback for that night! Viktor eventually chills because he’s learning about what kind of man Yuuri is and how a relationship between them is going to work.

It’s also why Viktor was so sure that Yuuri could do the Eros routine - he’d seen that boy mostly naked and doing ridic things with that limber body of his. (Besides, having a 15-year-old doing a sexual routine? Let’s not, a’ight?) Viktor knows that Yuuri can be forward, assertive, sexy, and seductive - he just needs confidence (which is what the alcohol was giving him before).

And on another note, Chris’s greeting? So much less sketchy now. I mean, his routine is still…. But that’s because he’s just That Guy, but not That Guy that blithely crosses boundaries, apparently! He and Yuuri had been in their undies on a stripper pole - I mean, after that, some ass-patting seems rather tame.

It also gives more context to every other skater just automatically assuming that Viktor and Yuuri are banging - they saw them dance! They saw that chemistry! Between Yuuri’s blatant flirting and Viktor actually agreeing - well what the fuck else were they supposed to think?

I’m just so happy and so impressed that the writers managed to use drunken debauchery as a context to make the sketchy tropes less sketchy. THAT’S SOME SKILL.

okay so i think we all know by now that tarjei is an amazing actor. but here’s the thing, he’s an amazing actor.
basically, there aren’t many videos or interviews of tarjei, most of what we get is videos of isak valtersen(and i am not complaining). but there are some videos of him being himself; videos that fans have recorded when taking pictures with him and some interviews. and one thing that have really stood out to me is that he is a completely different person when playing isak, and when he’s being himself(lol obviously). and i know that’s kind of the whole point of acting, to be someone else, but it’s not only the things he says etc. it’s how he smiles, how he moves, how he touches his hair, it’s all different.
and the thing is that when he’s playing isak, he’s doing it so well. because there’s not a moment in skam where he over acts or that makes you think “ugh he’s such a bad actor”. because he has the ability to change himself. he hasn’t just got the ability to show emotions or to have a believable dialogue with someone. but he actually changes himself. and let’s keep in mind that this kid is only a seventeen year old actor from norway that was completely unknown just two years ago. he’s amazing.

anonymous asked:

what are your sexuality headcanons for the paladins?

Ehhhhhh, hmmmm, let’s see… I mean, I support all kinds of ships in the fandom that probably break my headcanons, so this in no way implies that I disagree with other ships. These are just my, personal, headcanons for sexuality and… other things. Because I went overboard, as usual -

Lance - Bisexual (obv). Biromantic. I think he probably has some issues expressing his attraction to men, however. Not because he’s unaware of it, but because he has a “Han Solo” type image he wants to portray to those he wants to impress and so it’s easier to stick to only flirting with ladies. That is, until he’s confident and comfortable enough to express how he really feels to his new “family.” Lance is, in my opinion, a very, very secretive person that uses his typical attitude as a sort of smoke and mirrors idea to convince those he meets otherwise. Because insecurity. Also, I think Lance kind of shifts between being quite masculine and quite feminine when he feels comfortable in doing so. I don’t think he suffers from gender dysphoria, but I don’t think he allows his gender to dictate how he presents himself (again, once he feels comfortable enough with the people around him. Dat insecurity and desire to impress be gettin’ in the way). For example, back home with his family and in his neighborhood and where he’s most at ease, he’s more than happy to wear makeup. Or, say, during Cuban festivals like the Havana Carnival, you know damn well he’s wearing one of those more revealing getups with the fancy headdresses and all the beaded decorations and flashy sleeves and feathers, etc, etc. YOU CANNOT TAKE THIS HEADCANON AWAY FROM ME! GIVE ME HAVANA CARNIVAL LANCE! NOW!

Keith - Gay. Super gay. As gay as they come. SO gay. Homoromantic. I also headcanon Keith as being somewhat hyper-romantic, meaning that he really, really desires a romantic relationship (far more so than anything sexual). Like, he’s the type that forms feelings hard and fast and without mercy, and so he tries really, really hard not to give in, but it never works. He’s more apt to keep such things bottled up tight than ever express them, however–too afraid of rejection.

Pidge - Asexual. Aromantic. Pidge is far more interested in platonic bonds and values her family/friends more than anything. Which is why it’s so important that she find her family. I’d imagine she has a hard time making friends as well, so what strong bonds she does have are very, very important to her support system. She has anti-social tendencies, but is very dependent on the people she does love to be there and love her in return. I also imagine she suffers from gender dysphoria, and that–though it’s something that doesn’t really affect her position as part of Voltron any–it wears on her a bit. It’s clear from the space mall episode, when she couldn’t decide which bathroom to go in, that how she’s presenting herself–at least in public–is stressing her a bit. I think she’s comfortable enough with Team Voltron not to worry about it, but something inside her is uncertain. Whether this leads to her making a transition or identifying as gender fluid isn’t something I’ve decided yet, however.

Hunk - Panromantic and asexual. I dunno why I love the idea of asexual Hunk so much–maybe because it’s interesting to headcanon both him and Pidge that way due to how different they are. I like the idea of romantically distant Pidge, who still needs all her platonic relationships, while Hunk loves romance and wants it and all the frills that come along with it. But he’s also patient and doesn’t really go looking for it? Like, he knows it’ll come someday and he’s just waiting for that perfect person(s). Until then, he’s more than happy to give cuddles and love to his friends. I also think Hunk would do very well with polyamorous relationships and would be more than willing to be in one/want one. And though he has no active interest in sex himself, he’d be more than happy to participate if it made his partner happy. He’s not sex-repulsed (as Pidge probably is), he just doesn’t care one way or another.

Shiro - Demisexual and demiromantic. Shiro partially takes a while to warm up to people because of the trauma he’s been through, but also because he’s always been very focused elsewhere and so he’s never thinking about romance or sex at the forefront. When it does hit him, though, it’s deep and burning and certain. He’s the kind of person that loves someone his whole life, even if they don’t love him in return, and so even though he may not end up with that person, a flame for them will always exist inside him, even if it is subdued. That’s just how deeply he feels things–it leaves that much of an impact on him. But, like I said, it does take a special kind of person and a lot of time to get him to that point.

Allura - Gray-sexual and demiromantic. Allura has a lot more important things to worry about than sex and relationships. I also kind of headcanon that sex wasn’t a huge part of Altean culture anyway. Allura feels sexual attraction sometimes, but it’s not hard for her to control, nor is it distracting. That doesn’t mean she can’t be a sexual person, just that it’s not something that’s overpowering unless she lets it overpower her at her own volition. I would also imagine that she takes a while to romantically warm up to people, even if she’s platonically very friendly. If she’s going to enter into a romantic relationship, it needs to be with someone she’s partners with–both romantically and otherwise. Someone she can work with, but who can also manage themselves and offer things productive to the relationship. Allura would need–I think above anything–an efficient relationship. Which is why this determination would have to be solidified before romance was introduced or even considered.

Coran - I… don’t know, lol. I usually headcanon Coran as being very dedicated to the royal family and so his personal life wasn’t something he considered important. Which I guess would make him a kind of asexual and aromantic. But I also imagine that Alteans are very good at compartmentalizing, so even if he was attracted to someone/in love, he wouldn’t allow it to get in the way of his duties. Therefore, I consider Coran’s personal life to, well, be none of my business, hahahaha!

“Isn’t in kind of unrealistic, statistically, that all the Voltron members be part of the LGBTQ+ community?”

No. If it weren’t for the gender and sexual stereotypes that permeate human society, I theorize that diversity among such things would be far more wide-spread. Not only that, but each lion represents a different type of person and I think it’s perfectly reasonable, therefore, that each paladin show variances all over the spectrum, not just in their personalities. They are five pieces that come together to make a whole, so like they represent different races and personality types, other things about them should show differences as well. Which means that, yes, I do get slightly annoyed at the lack of female representation on the team. What little representation women have isn’t enough, and Hunk or Shiro would have made really good female characters without it altering the story one bit.

ANYWAY! Hope that sums it up :D

Julian looked over at her. “No, really, it actually is.”
“Seriously? So what’s the Herondale family motto? 'Chiseled but angsty’?”
He shrugged. 'If you don’t know what your last name is, it’s probably Herondale’?“
Emma burst out laughing. ’'What about Carstairs?” she asked, tapping Cortana. “ 'We have a sword’? 'Blunt instruments are for losers’?”
“Morgenstern,” offered Julian. “When in doubt, start a war’?”
“How about 'Has even one of us ever been any good, like ever, seriously’?”
“Seems long,” said Julian. “And kind of on the nose.”
They were both giggling almost too hard to talk.

A little langst

Have you guys seen that post where the way parents talk to their children becomes their inner voice?

Okay okay so

What if that’s the way it was for Lance? His mother a kind loving woman, but his late father a strict man chasing him down for every mistake he has ever done.

What if flying was his mother’s wish? All his siblings encouraged it, giving him the thumbs up but his father… well he didn’t like it one bit. So, out of spite Lance secretly applies to the garrison. It was the only rebellious thing he has ever done.

It was an explosion when the man found out. Bickering and quarrelling, one sided shouting filled with hateful acidic comments.

Sometimes Lance can’t help but feel the words slicing through his heart late at night. The words dancing mockingly around his mind. He silently cries himself to sleep. No matter how matter times he tries, he can’t put the hurt aside. He starts believing it and it becomes a part of him.

What if one day it slowly but surely gets better?

Lance hauled ass and finally became a fighter pilot. His mom bing oh so proud and happy, hugging him till he was out of breath. What if his father who had become sickly over the months and was now lying in the hospital bed finally acknowledges him. With a smile and a weak nod.

Through the days of summer break, Lance began to realise that he and his father had many things in common. He visited him in the hospital every day. The first 10 minutes might be a little awkward, a little shaky. They manage to get by that, talking for hours and hours without end.

But

Don’t think about Lance when Iverson tells him that the only reason he was able to become a fighter pilot was because someone dropped out.

Don’t think about him feeling like a cheat, a liar, to his parents. That he doesn’t deserve their praise.

Don’t think about Lance tearing himself and his room apart after a phonecall from his parents. His father apologising for how terrible he had been over the years, how his mom loved him and that they were both proud of who he had become.

His knuckles bled. Throat hoarse from shouting curses at his reflection in the broken mirror. His bed was a mess. Books were sprawled all over the floor.

Don’t think about how that was the last phonecall Lance ever receives from him.

Lance didn’t get to tell him the truth. That he was just a cargo pilot who got lucky.

He never got to tell him how much he loved him too. How much he looked up to him.

Honestly, his father didn’t need to apologize. He has been right all along.

Lance was never good enough to fly. Never smart enough, never fast enough.

Most importantly,

Lance wasn’t never good enough to be their son.

Anan translation - Endo Aya’s strategies for going after the sextuplets.

Totoko’s voice actress’s comments about what the brothers might be like to go out with and her tips on how to win them from the recent Anan special magazine.

Endo Aya’s strategies for going after the sextuplets.

Totoko-chan, the super cute only girl in the group. She’s very popular with the sextuplets, and we’re as jealous as could be. Together with Endo Aya who performed her, we’re going to examine their manly charms in a somewhat serious way!

She’s Totoko-chan so she understands?! The sextuplets “manly charms.”

The beloved heroine Totoko, whom the sextuplets never stop admiring. Since she is approached by them constantly on a daily basis, she’s bound to know about their attitudes towards love, and (we’re not sure whether or not they actually have any) their manly charms. Therefore, we threw Endo Aya, who played Totoko the closest observer of the sextuplets for half a year, the silly question, “What are they like as men?”

(Endo) To start with, whatever they may say, I think that they are kind boys. No matter how selfish Totoko gets, they face her head on and take the blow. This time, I tried thinking about each of them carefully, but even though they are jobless virgin NEETs who sponge off their family, there are moments when I suddenly felt like they were “good men” and I got flustered, lol. Despite telling myself that “If I went out with them they’d definitely be a burden,” I had a hard time keeping my cool. (Lol)

So she has analysed each of their manly charms, from Osomatsu to Todomatsu, and has proposed her strategies for going after them.

With this you can be just like Totoko… perhaps?

Thanks for the explanation about Charles Grey's popularity! It's fascinating. I still don't really get it, though. ^^; While some of these traits are some I like myself as well, I still can't help but to feel like he (and Phipps, too, tbh) has little to no character. But that's just my personal opinion of course! No hard feelings for anyone who likes him!

Oh no, I don’t really care that much about Grey either (lol), but I’ll definitely defend Phipps! (`・ω・´) He’s actually super funny and adorable despite his poker face! :D

Phipps is

  • a gentleman and is always kind to women and children

he helped Mey-Rin get up (ch38)

and took care of this small girl on the rescue ship (Campania arc)

  • is also kind to animals

he raised this chick from the Easter chapter

to this beautiful chicken (ch108)

  • as a first-class butler, he’s good at everything (he’s actually as perfect as Sebastian and Agni)

he’s even able to charm snakes with a flute!! xD

  • he likes doing “girl’s” stuff, e.g. knitting, cooking, baking cakes and decorating Easter Eggs
  • he’s proud of his knitting ability

*Phipps’ adorable self-praise scene*

  • has a sexy mole
  • he looks mature but is actually younger than Grey (!!!)

He doesn’t appear in the manga often, so I get that you think he has no character, but if you pay attention to the details and read Yana’s blog posts, you’ll find out that he’s actually a very adorable person!! (≧▽≦)

Viktor's Pauses

Okay, this is a break from my usual tough love on Viktor. This time, I’d like to talk about something Viktor does that makes me really, really happy and proud of him.

We see how kind Viktor is to Yuuri. He is thoughtful and careful with him in a way that appears so soft and warm and everything that made us fall in love with them. Somehow, Viktor just seems to do and say the right things. Not all the time, of course, and he has had his slips like what we saw at the Cup of China, but this is because Viktor is still learning. Most of the time though, he seems to have the right words to say.

The best part for me though is HOW Viktor says these things - more specifically, how he comes up with them. It is not as if the responses come naturally, or are top of mind. He had to learn them, because Viktor definitely thought about other things before the things that he does say out loud. How do we know?

He pauses.

For example, in episode 3, Yuuri (and Yurio) struggle with their respective programs. Yuuri, at his wits end, suddenly comes up with the crazy, “That’s it! Katsudon!”

Now look at what happens next:

There must have been a dozen things that passed through dear Viktor’s mind. Remember, he didn’t know that Yuuri forgot everything that happened at the banquet. He didn’t know that Yuuri didn’t know about his own Eros potential. Viktor’s thoughts possibly ranged from “Excuse me?” to “What the actual fuck,” but he does not say these things. Instead, he pauses.

What do pauses even mean? A pause means a person is thinking. Viktor thinks about what he will say to Yuuri. Granted, Viktor does not have the record of being the most tactful person on Earth. We have seen him deliver brutal truths with that heart-shaped smile of his, but that only makes it even more precious that he makes these later considerations for Yuuri.

Viktor did not start off being this considerate. You know when this kindness started? When Yuuri first ran away to skate away his anxiety since Viktor came, and then more and more as Viktor learned that Yuuri was apparently shy and more delicate than Viktor initially thought him to be.

So back at the dinner table, of course we know that what Viktor says instead of, you know, Yurio’s more sensible, “Seriously?” is:

Viktor’s first careful step!

Fast forward to Hot Springs on Ice. Yuuri panics when it is his turn, but eventually, comes up with another gem:

Viktor pauses a bit.

He’s still not used to this type of lines from Yuuri. In the end though, his answer to Yuuri is:

The beauty of what Viktor does is that it’s a considerate way of acting neutral while he tries to understand how this beautifully confusing creature he sort of fell a little in love with at the Sochi banquet ticks. At the same time, whether he meant to or not, he says things that Yuuri seems to need, as proven by the way Yuuri blushes every time Viktor says something that tells him that Viktor is on his side. Viktor is very careful with Yuuri, and what I love about it is that it shows to us that Viktor still wants to stay and get to know this person even though he is not who Viktor thought he was.

Episode 4, as we know, is that wonderful, wonderful episode that spanned the months of Yuuri’s training, during which we are somehow told that Yuuri and Viktor grew closer and got to know one another better. The next Viktor-pause is not so much a consideration for Yuuri as much as it is proof that Viktor picked up the habit of thinking before he speaks around Yuuri, and somehow finding the right words to say within those brief pauses.

The beauty of the pause here is that it seems to be a tentative one. The theme is love? Why did it become love, now when I am working on him with this? Am I somehow making progress with this person? Viktor pauses for his own sake this time, because Yuuri’s theme caught him off-guard.

But after all this time, Viktor is better with Yuuri, and his response is:

He reacts positively to Yuuri and supports his decisions. He has learned to relate with Yuuri better, and continues to be kind to him. He knows how to say yes to Yuuri’s decisions in the best way possible.

Here is another of my favourite scenes, purely because of Viktor’s word choices.

“Perfect” and “the best theme” – Viktor’s words are encouraging and uplifting, and I can perfectly imagine how they can affect Yuuri and motivate him.

Episode 5 is yet another gift of an episode where, for the first time, we hear Viktor think. And boy, he thinks a lot, and now we know that he does think a lot before doing and saying things in regards to Yuuri. We know he does not always agree with his student:

Yet at the end of the day, still makes the conscious decision to accept and support him.

We can see how this endeared Viktor to Yuuri. I mean look at the boy’s face in that last frame. He’s so happy, he actually cried. Viktor’s constant affirmation helped Yuuri grow and be more confident in himself. While I do believe that Viktor is naturally warm and a very kind person deep down, and while providing Yuuri this kind of positive regard is not contradictory to his personality, it’s wonderful to think that he still had to learn and develop these things in himself as well.

Now, of course Viktor isn’t perfect. He slipped in episode 7 and said the wrong thing. But, as Yakov said, Viktor still had a lot to learn, but it’s heartening to see him keep at it, isn’t it?

Lol, he even does this silent pause thing during their engagement. There was a good pause there, but then again maybe it was just shock. He’s been quiet even during the time that they bought the rings, and pretty much just followed Yuuri in a daze (I assume) up to the last moment. He doesn’t even talk until Yuuri prompts him.

Viktor still says something good, though - probably the best that could be said given the circumstances and given what Yuuri said. He has also grown quite a lot. Somewhere along the way, he learned to speak Yuuri’s language, and it is just a beautiful thing to watch.

Thanks to the lovely Elena, now we have the video of Yuzuru’s FS with Ambesi and Dolfini’s comments.

M: “And the first to skate is the current Olympic champion, Yuzuru Hanyu, a skater who’s won everything in his career, besides 4CC. An icon of this sport. There is great anticipation for Yuzuru Hanyu, on the eve of the world championships he was considered the favourite, but he’s sitting in fifth place after the short program. Yuzuru Hanyu, who turned 22 at the end of December, a legend in his country and not only there. He’s in charge of his own fate, because if he skates the perfect free, he can win this competition.”

A: “You’re all familiar with this music by now, by Joe Hisaishi.”

Some comments they made during Yuzuru’s performance:

Angelo: “4lo, fantastic”. Max: “+3″

A: “4S textbook.” “3F, after difficult steps, perfectly executed. ” “Now comes the pivotal moment of his program.”

“4S3T, perfect!” “4T! 3A2T with both arms over the head! 3Alo3S, and a spread eagle after it! Terrific.” “One jump left, the lutz. 3Lz! He did not make any mistakes! This is a new world record! 121 points of TES. Only this spin left.”

M: “Welcome back to planet Hanyu! Inhabitants one, only him! *to Angelo* Continue, because I can’t do it.”

A: “Impressive, the best free that has ever been skated by Yuzuru Hanyu, and that means that this is the best free that has ever been skated in history. 125 of TES are something incre- …terrific. It can annihilate anyone, I imagine it will be much more than 90 PCS, this is a performance-” M: “90? I’ve never seen anything like this! You cannot not give 100 PCS, you cannot not give 10 for everything, because there’s never been something like this. Interpretation, 10! Choreography, 10! Transitions, 10! Do you even want to talk about that, look at the others! [it means, you can compare what the others do and what he does :P]. Performance, 10! Skating skills, 10, this is the best you could see, complexity of edges and steps that we’ve never seen. I repeat, go on, because  I feel like crying, because this is an incredible performance, a historic moment for sport in general, incredible, a living legend. ” *max was really shook guys, told you lol*

A: “A living legend, and now we expect an astounding score. It will be [literal, he’ll go] much beyond 220 points, well he’ll surpass 220 points for sure, let’s see by how much. Tremendous, we had never seen Hanyu like this, and we had already seen incredible performances by him.”

M: “He had something inside him *kind of difficult to translate this in english, sorry*, something snapped inside his head, he did not stomach that score [his SP score].”

A: “And now he re-established the chain of command. Now it will be extremely complicated for the others to skate.” M: “yes, this will put a lot of pressure on everyone. The best Fernandez can try [to win].” A: “Yes, the best Fernandez yes…because he can achieve 210-215…” M: “Anyway I’d like to metion that the best TES that has ever been achieved is 120,92. PCS-wise he has had 98,56, but here you got to have the courage [literal, the balls XD] to give him 10, because we’ve never seen a program  like this in figure skating’s history.”

A: “True. A pity, he starts from…98. It will be difficult to see a total WR, because he managed to score 330 and he can’t achieve that here. But just because of the short program; the free will be the best free that Hanyu has ever skated and so, the highest score we’ve ever seen in a free program. Sensational Hanyu, truly sensational.” M: “I’m truly speechless, this is an incredible performance, and even in training, during run throughs he had never skated this program like this. Let’s remember that no Japanese man has won two world titles, he can try to do it. It won’t be easy because Fernandez has a huge advantage, but the roles have reversed, compared to last year. The runner-up had the perfect program. The FS record is 219,48…223,20…97.08 is a scandal, we’ll have to take note of that. 223,20 the best free that has ever been skated in history and now you can try to catch him. It doesn’t end here, five more to skate.”

“Kolyada’s  face says it all.”

Video ends here, I’ll leave the other things I caught during the commentary here, and if the video shows up I might translate those too ^^

[after Chen]

M: “But Angelo, what has he [Yuzuru] done?”

A: “Hanyu is…the best ever. There has never been one like him.”

M: “But it isn’t just what he has done, but how he has done it.” *more to come*

There’s actually more, but I did not catch everything at the moment. *I would translate everything, but again, I’m doing this while they talk, so it’s a bit impossible xD* I missed some parts, though, I’ll probably update when I have the video.

2. ESP aired the gala, again, bits and pieces here ^^

M: “His free program has already made history.” A: “He showed us something truly incredible, striking, he was the only one who could do it.”

M: “As of now, the emotions he can make us feel are something rare in figure skating. And to think that some people describe him as “cold”…it’s a heresy.”

A: “I think he’s extraordinary and the best skater I’ve ever seen, because of how he jumps, how he skates and what he can makes us feel.

This boy was born to do this.”

M: “He’s the one who’s incredible, inside and outside the rink, in spite of the results.” […] “We’d never seen in history a free skate like the one he has skated.”

Yuri on Ice BD choreography commentary translation - Volume 3

I’m alive… There were too many things this month, I can’t believe we’re already halfway through. Anyway, finally, here’s the full translation of the choreography commentary from the BD/DVD vol.3. The commentary is by Kenji Miyamoto & Mitsurou Kubo, as usual. This time it’s Minami’s FS, Phichit’s SP, Leo’s SP and Chris’ SP. More programs so of course it’s longer than usual.

Notes:
-It’s two people talking, not a written interview, so expect them to hop from one subject to another within the same sentence… Even if it sounds a bit unconnected at times, that’s how they said it.
-I still arranged it a little to make it easier to understand as written material, by removing lots of “ehm” “uuhm” “you know” “yes” (I especially removed all instances where someone says “yes” in the middle of the other speaking) and fumbled words.
-Amusingly enough both their initials are KM/MK, but I used the surname initials so M is Miyamoto and K is Kubo.
-I put (LOL) when they’re laughing because otherwise some lines might sound serious while they’re actually joking.

***VERY IMPORTANT***
Do NOT use this translation for subtitles, in ANY way.
I don’t support the upload of bonuses contained in BDs/DVDs, as they are meant to be (as the word says) bonuses for the people who spent money to purchase them. If you like a series so much that you absolutely need to watch the bonus contents, please buy the BDs/DVDs.

Translation under the cut since it’s twice the usual length.

She could say that to Kaneki as well lol

That striking resemblance between Kaneki and Arata though.
Kaneki is also all kind and smiles in front of them but also has a darker side (I hope he doesn’t secretly go around and kill ppl tho)
And Touka talking about how she’d reject his wrong doings even if she loves him, and that she regrets not being able to save his heart and mind…

- I feel like that’s a lot of foreshadowing for the further development for Kaneki and Touka.
