weird up mix

Um this isn’t a fandom blog or any kind of blog really but I had this conversation with fellow fannibal @franicie about murder husbands on social media and I. I had to. And then she suggested I put it on here, so. Just a little sketch thing, used references but drew it quickly so excuse my lazy handwriting/general sloppiness!!

Have you gotten lost yet? Needed to ask for directions? What's been the strangest cultural experience yet? Have you had any weird language mixups or misunderstanding?

When I was in Barcelona, I did get lost, but I didn’t ask for directions because getting lost is the absolute best way to discover new things about a new city. If I hadn’t gotten lost, I wouldn’t have found the crafts fair at the zoo, for example, which turned out to be a wonderful experience! Also, there are signs everywhere to guide you to some major point of interest, so if I was feeling overly lost, I could follow those signs back to some place I had already been.

I didn’t have any weird language mix ups or misunderstandings. In fact, I tried speaking Spanish here and there and my accent was so good (apparently) that a lot of people mistook me for a local. It was funny, especially when they started speaking English and I stood there thinking, “Oh no! I don’t understand any of this.” This trip has definitely inspired me to take Spanish.

As for the strangest cultural experience? I was shocked to find that locals are not too keen on sangria. My guidebook said it was a big deal, but when I went out with my host and his friends, they were like, “No. Sangria is gross. It ruins a perfectly good bottle of wine with all that other stuff.” Now I know! :)

Fic Fishing

When I started reading fanfiction I was a deep sea fisherman. I sailed to far off journals, blogs and archives trawling through all the fic I could find. Schools of drabbles, delightful pods of oneshots, whales of epics that I followed for days just to hear them sing. True, there were some downsides, storms of limited downloads that kept me from the fic, jellyfish and seaweed disguised as fic to swamp me, unexpected kinks like sharks that tried to maul me and not a coast guard to post warnings in site.

Gradually I lost my taste for the expedition, staying closer to home, sticking to the rec sites in the shallows. When the supermarket of AO3 opened its doors to me it was great! All the fic I could want with neat ingredient, nutrition and allergy labels! A store directory to search for exactly what I need! But my trawling skills got a little rusty and I had no patience to search through the seaweed any more which did seem to get washed down the aisles occasionally.

These days I hang around the Tumblr fishmarket, buying bits and pieces from those who still fish, nipping over to the supermarket when I have a craving for something specific, listening to tales from fishermen even older than me (Back in their day you needed to fight off pirates, subscribe to zines and walk over frozen seas to find the fic) and generally have a much more fun time than when I was only going to the supermarket by myself.

Sometimes i listen to Hannah Montana Songs where i remember being a teenager and saying “This is exactly how i feel about my life” and i still feel about my life like this. It’s weird like “Mixed up” or “every part of me” ugh

7, 31 and 35?

Ahh yes! T1D aks!!

7. First choice of rescue carbs?
My go to is always juice boxes. It raises blood sugar quickly and it’s the only time I ever drink juice so it’s kind of sort of like a treat.

31. Most ridiculous thing someone has said to you?
I can’t think one the words specifically but it was along the lines of reversing my diabetes by following a certain diet, even though I explained type 1 can’t be reversed. I’ve also gotten the typical “you’re so young” “but you’re not fat” stuff. Aaaand my mom tends to forget that it’s carbs I need to watch, she says “sugar” a lot but i’m sure she means well.

35. Have you ever done anything weird during a low?
Not really, I cry sometimes if it’s a really bad low if that counts as weird. I also mix up my words and it’s almost like I’m talking before my brain processes what I’m actually saying and it doesn’t make any sense at all.

Thanks for the asks!!
