Bound Squat Pose, aka Ardha Baddha Parivrtta Malasana, is a deep chest and hip opener. The tighter the bind, the more the chest is broadened and the hips and stretched. Bound squat is also the precursor to Standing Marichi Pose. Expect plenty of deep hip openers in both of my classes this weekend listed below. See you there!

Ahhh, the amazing opening sensation of Sun Salutation B, aka Surya Namaskar B, makes me feel like I’m 10 feet tall. With this summer heat loosening our muscles and joints, it’s a great time to see if you can go a bit deeper and get a bit longer in your poses. We will be exploring this idea in my 4:30pm Saturday class @lucentyoga. Get ready to feel expansive!

Short & sweet because I spent the weekend at an ashram

When Jess breaks up with Sam, he’s devastated; ugly crying, plying himself full of ice cream and watching awful reality TV, living amidst a veritable pile of Kleenex, letting hygiene fall by the wayside… Dean deals with it all. And, because he’s a good brother, he also goes with Sam to the long-weekend stint at an ashram originally meant for he and Jess.

Yes, Dean deals with the bunk beds and the ‘no shoes’ policy, the ‘no booze’ policy, and the goddamn vegetarian meals. Rabbit food. Only two meals served a day and they consist completely of rabbit food

Dean looks down at his metal plate and what appears to be some kind of curry and tofu thing with a curl to his lip. He’s just to about to make a snarky comment about organic bullshit when he sees him.

The Guy.

He’s 100% the type of granola, yoga-loving hippie you’d expect in a place like this: baggy pants, a long linen shirt, wearing bracelets and sporting scruff that’s just a couple of days from being a full-fledged beard. His hair is messy and his smile is wide and goofy, and eyes are so blue that Dean is momentarily distracted.

From then on, the whole yoga weekend doesn’t seem so bad.

Dean manages to subtly guide Sam towards The Guy in order to sit next to him during the evening Satsang. And while the eldest Winchester is not a real big fan of mediatation, chanting or spiritualism, he can appreciate it for The Guy’s enthusiasm. Same thing with the morning Satsang, which is at 6am. (Sam is shocked that Dean is raring to go, but that latter wasn’t gonna miss seeing The Guy.) Then yoga. Then hiking. Then yoga again. Hell, Dean even participates in Karma Yoga in the hopes he’ll get to work with The Guy cleaning toilets or sweeping floors or some shit, but it turns out he and Sam have to garden all by their lonesome.

Dean has all but lost hope for any kind of interaction when, at supper, left to his own devices while Sam goes and gets more tea, a person sits down right in front of him.

“It’ll taste better if you salt it.”

Lo and behold: The Guy.

Dean spends the next thirty seconds roughly imitating a fish out of water, before blushing and clearing his throat. “Right. Um, yeah. I’m just not into this whole, ah, vegetarian thing. Um.”

“Ah, a meat eater.”

“Strictly sausage, or…?”

Green eyes widen as The Guy smirks so wide the expression quickly turns into a teasing grin. “I’m joking,” he says, giving a little nod. “How do you do? I’m Castiel.”

Dean’s palms are sweating, his mouth is dry, his heart is pounding in his chest, and he’s totally and completely screwed because he barely even knows the guy other than what he’s observed–other than seeing him help out and cook and clean and do yoga and be kind to people–but Dean’d gladly drink five cups of the nasty tea they serve for him. He totally would.

“Dean,” he replies with a grin. “I’m great.” And the worst part? He is. He really, truly is.

Sam will never let him live this down.

anonymous asked:

If the batkids went to college like normal kids what do you think their majors would be?

Dick: Okay I actually really like what they did with Dick joining the police force, I think that’s a great fit for him. So I could totally see him majoring in like Criminal Law or something along those lines. (I’m a sucker for Officer Grayson.) Sometimes he stops by Cass’ self defense class she teaches to give a few tips on ‘what to do if someone larger and stronger than you grabs you and how to turn their weight again them.’ and goes over what rights a person has when the police are involved and what red flags to watch out for. Because Dick’s not dumb, he knows there’s bad guys on the force. But as long as he’s here he’s gonna be damn sure they don’t stay on for long.

Jason: I HAVE THOUGHT ABOUT THIS SO MUCH AND OKAY, ENGLISH LITERATURE FOR SURE. Jason loves books, he loves reading, I feel like he’s the guy who will whine about having to read one case file but then read an eight hundred page book in a week. So English Literature for sure, if they were in a normal setting I could easily see Jason as being a college professor who visits Gotham’s kind of shitty high school’s and he tells them that they matter and how important an education is. He would be the get really into Bruce’s charity work when it came to children from low income families especially.

Tim: Tim’s the overachieving asshole who gets a major in business management and a minor in mechanical engineering. He doesn’t sleep and during his graduation ceremony they have to call his name a few times before you hear a very loud ‘DRAKE’ come from the crowd and Tim wakes up and gets his diploma. (The mess.) But yeah I could see him majoring in business because he’s the one to take over Wayne Enterprises, but he also does engineering so he can make sure no one’s embezzling money from any Wayne accounts and checks over all the computers for viruses and makes his own systems. (Once again, overachieving asshole.) His siblings have no clue why everyone thinks his intimidating, this is the same guy who calls cheese whiz and a Monster ‘lunch.’

Damian: Okay, okay so I know this probably wouldn’t happen. But can you imagine if Damian ended up majoring in veterinary science and became a veterinarian? Okay like this 22 year old Damian with a scowl and a button he’s wearing that says ‘animals are better than people.’ But then a little girl brings in her kitten who’s small and sickly and Damian’s eyes soften and they get that cat healthy. (Damian waves his hand when the parents say they don’t have the money to pay for all the fancy medication.) He volunteers at shelters in his spare time and also helps Cass teach a tae kwon do class on the weekends. (Sometimes they do yoga, helps with core strength.)

Stephanie: Okay this may just be because I relate to Steph hardcore but FASHION MERCHANDISING (my major) with a minor in business ethic!!! I could totally see Stephanie coming out with her own clothing line and the material is strong and durable (So no creepy guy can rip your dress.) And hella stain resistant. She ends up making a name and a brand for herself and the main message is ‘badass and beautiful, because why pick?’ (Sometimes she gets the boys to model some of the clothes. It’s the best.)

Cass: Okay Cass is a little tough, but I could see physical therapy? Or tbh I feel like she’s be the one of Bruce’s kids to go backpacking and sends back postcards and amazing pictures. She teaches self defense classes and is on a roller derby team. She’s just having fun and kicking ass. Also she’s Stephanie’s favorite model to use for when she releases sportswear. She appears in so many magazines doing high kicks and flips and loves spreading the message that ‘strong doesn’t mean unfeminine.’

Babs: Forgive me, Babs is such an enigma to me. I could see her double majoring in computer science and criminal law. Since Dick and her father are on the force she helps with all the background work like tracking down drug cartels and interrogation. She’s a goddamn force to be reckoned with. (And the only person Tim trusts to double check Wayne Industries finances after he’s done filing taxes.) After the accident that puts her in a wheelchair, she’s still just as active. Because yes, shit happens, but don’t let that stop you. She visits Gotham’s hospitals a lot, especially the children’s ward.

Lil throwback~ Before: July 2014. Pre-vegan days. Two months post grad, at my heaviest, plenty of drinking, fast food af, etc etc. After: October 2016. 85 pounds lighter, 2 years & 3 months of being vegan, class-pass hopping around los angeles, cooking for 30 women on a weekend yoga retreat in Joshua Tree, finally believing everything is going to be okay.

Crow, aka Bakasana, is the root of all yoga arm balances and inversions. It can definitely seem scary when you first attempt to balance the weight of your body, on your hands, your face hovering just a few inches from the ground. But with practice, and the knowledge of which muscles to engage (think core), you start to lift and fly and decide that perhaps there are more arm balances in your future. Watching students stick this pose for the first time is always fun as their excitement becomes contagious. Expect to become contagiously excited, and leave feeling strong and open in and after all of my classes this weekend listed below.

Woke up this morning, threw on my favorite workout clothes, and headed to yoga where I took some much-needed relaxation time. I decided to continue my practice when I got home. It was a tough week for me. From car troubles, difficulties at work and school, to feeling completely inadequate and unsatisfied with my personal relationships; I was in desperate need of some self-care.

When I was younger, I always frowned upon the thought of doing yoga. I used to claim, “It’s too easy.” As a competitive runner and soccer player, I was used to the constant adrenaline. I never let myself slow down. As I’ve grown up, I’ve realized that I need to take more time for myself. Slowing down is still extremely challenging for me, but I’ve gotten so much better at listening to my body. I’m so thankful for yoga, and for a passion that makes me feel genuinely good about myself no matter what life throws at me.

Here’s to hoping everyone has a relaxing weekend. 💕🙏🏻

This felt ah-maaaazing. I’ve never really work in spinal fluidity like this and now I neeeeed it in my life 🤤😍 I’ve definitely got some “sticky” spots! • It’s been quite the week here in Florida! Both of my parents have been without power all week but neither will come to my house, ugh.
  • Work has had no internet or phones all week, getting surgeries processed has been a very interesting task.
  • I made such a turning point with yoga this week! I have been pushing through very hard tasks with a smile on my face! So amazing!
  • Thinking about the beach— she’s calling me
  • There is a kundalini teacher certification here locally next year on weekends— pretty sure I’m going to be signing up for this- i don’t think I have a choice- I just have to do it- does that make sense?

Bring on the Weekend!

Pyramid Pose, aka Parsvottonasana, is a deep hamstring and spinal stretch. I usually sequence this pose into the very beginning of my classes, as it’s a good indicator of where one is in their flexibility, and can show where or what they may want to concentrate on as class progresses. Make sure to square the hips as much as possible and press down firmly through the balls of the feet, using each inhale to lengthen, and each exhale to settle into the new space. We will be getting super long (and strong) in my weekend classes listed below, so join me if you feel like doing the same. ✨
