What’s on your Pull List? Which issue are you most excited for?

captainbooksnob  asked:

Curious if you know if the comics come out in Australia at the same time they come out here in the US. Or are there companies there that buy second printing rights?

So they’re certainly original prints - all big-name comics released in Australia feature a price in USD, and also feature American advertising. I’m not sure if this is the same case in Europe, or in instances where language needs to be translated, but I would assume all American-made comics are just shipped out of the US.

As for release, new comics usually hit the shelves here every Thursday, although from what I can gather new comic book day most other places is Wednesday. You’d think we’d get them a day late because it takes longer to ship them all the way here, but when you consider that we’re about 12-20 hours ahead of most of the Western world, we’re still technically getting them at the same time.

Speaking of Josie… wedding bells are ringing for her rockin’ bassist Valerie and everyone’s favorite redhead! Witness the musical magic in the ARCHIE: A ROCK ‘N’ ROLL ROMANCE graphic novel on sale today!

Happy New Comic Book Day!

In honor of another fabulous Wednesday, the KCC Library would like to highlight Hunter S. Thompson’s Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - GRAPHIC NOVEL STYLE.

Adapted by Troy Little, Thompson’s “savage journey to the heart of the American dream” was destined to be immortalized in four colors. The gutters heave and twist with every new drug the protagonists ingest and Little’s art perfectly captures the coarse mundanity of everyday American consumerism in the heart of Las Vegas, as well as the narcotic induced wonder of every weird and terrible trip that’s taken.

Fans of the original book or the 1998 movie should seriously consider picking up this graphic gem. It is currently a part of our monthly display, “Love the movie? Read the book!”, and is available for check out today! Come and visit us any time.

Happy Reading!

Soooo~ Super Comic City 25 (Tokyo) will be held this coming Tuesday and Wednesday (03 and 04 May 2016), and guess who illustrates the pamphlet?? XD It looks as if the characters cosplayed as different people - HAHAHAHAHA! Though it’s quite obvious who is the “template” of which. :-P

Furthermore, to the surprise of the participants of the SERVAMP petit event (to be held on 04 May 2016), apparently Tanaka-sensei themselves are attending the event on the same day! *^* As always, they sneakily only got added into the circle list less than a week before the event. :‘3

There is no new book for this event, but they will sell this “craft paper book cover” using their past chibi illustration~ It’s nothing grand, but it’s pretty affordable and good for collection~

EDIT:I feel the need to address this because I see a lot of misunderstandings on my post. :‘3 I’ll just copy-paste my similar reply to someone else here:

“I’m sorry if my post is confusing, but they are not cosplaying anyone at all! :’D I was just making a joke that the characters "LOOKED LIKE they cosplayed as different people” because they all look similar to the SERVAMP characters. But honestly, they are not from SERVAMP because I don’t think they allow mangaka to self-promote their own story/manga on the pamphlet cover anyway, that would be unfair to other fandoms. ^^;“

In short, they are original characters from Tanaka-sensei. But personally, they look so much like SERVAMP characters that it’s as if they are SERVAMP characters (even when they are not).

What I meant by the "template” was that we can match each OC with a SERVAMP characters: the long silver-haired guy on the left from Snow Lily, the light purple-haired guy in the middle from Kuro, the blonde, bespectacled guy on center left from Lawless, the navy-haired guy on center right from Licht, the brown-haired guy on center bottom from Mahiru, and short silver-haired guy on the right from World End (SERVAMP of Gluttony).

Daredevil 101: Guts Nelson

We’ve had a rough couple of posts lately, so l think it’s time to perk things up with THE GREATEST ISSUE OF DAREDEVIL EVER PUBLISHED: “Guts Nelson.” It is a masterpiece!!!

We begin with Matt setting the scene:

Every issue should begin with Matt whispering sweet nothings about Foggy to the reader, tbh.

That intro aside, we get into the meat of the story:

So here’s the fun thing about this issue: this is Miller parodying himself. Normal issues of Miller’s Daredevil have narration lines like “This city is like a woman” with no further clarification, so parodying that really needs to push it into pure ridiculousness. AND MILLER DELIVERS. This is a Foggy who leans heavily into comic relief, but since Miller usually balances that in regular issues with a real steadiness and a very touching insight into Matt’s fucked-up brain, I’ll allow a certain goofiness. In the overall darkness of this run, Foggy tripping over his own two feet and being occasionally clueless is sorely needed.

(Also, “not since Wednesday” is a real cute line, considering Wednesday is new comic book day.)

Anyway, Heather’s come to Foggy because the board of the company she inherited from her father is up to some really shady behavior, and since her relationship with Matt is increasingly strained (more on that next time), she’d prefer the Nelson half of this partnership for this particular legal matter. Foggy agrees to keep this quiet for now, but Matt, of course, overhears. Matt always overhears.

They head to Heather’s company, with a little horned shadow trailing them, just in case…

My absolute favourite of all the Secret Wars titles is finally collected in TPB  and in stores today! I actually didn’t even know it was out until I walked into @silversnailto

If you’re gonna treat your loved one(s), or perhaps just yourself this Valentines Day, pick up this book! The ending is absolutely phenomenal and if Angela wasn’t already your favourite character, Sera definitely will be.  @stephanie-hans, @evilmarguerite,  @kierongillen along with @frazerirving, @prom-knight, @kodychamberlain and @margueritesauvage absolutely killed this book!

Why are you still reading this? Go run to your local comic shop and pick this up!

headbandone  asked:

I am currently in the process of buying a comic book store. Is there anything you think I should keep in mind while running it?

Promote a friendly (and family-friendly) atmosphere welcome to ALL - you want parents to bring their kids in. Sell more than just comics - associated items include board games, card games, comic-related media like superhero films and shows/toys/action figures. Set up subscriptions/pulls for customers and when new comics arrive make sure those are separated out first. Utilize social media (and e-mail newsletters) to announce events or when new comics are available on Wednesdays. Back issues are VERY important - lots of people come in outside of new comic book day JUST to look for specific ones.

Anyone else got anything?

Book 5: Fandom is a collective gift to Bryke from the fans of Avatar: the Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, to be presented in person at New York Comic Con 2014. The deadline has been extended an extra day to 11:59pm Eastern on Wednesday, October 8th. For more information check out our blog page with a newly added FAQ, and feel free to ask any questions about the project.
