Pre-internet era: You walk into a room and sit down at a table. Someone brings you a turkey sandwich, a bag of potato chips, and a soda. Perhaps you are a vegetarian, or gluten-free. Doesn’t matter; you get a turkey sandwich, a bag of potato chips, and a soda.
Usenet era: You walk into a room and sit down to your turkey sandwich, a bag of potato chips, and a soda. Someone tells you that over at the University they are also serving BLTs, pizza, coffee, and beer.
Web 1.0 (aka The Great Schism): You walk into a room. The room is lined with 50 unmarked doors. Someone tells you, “We have enough food to feed you and a hundred more…but we’ve scattered it behind these fifty doors. Good luck!”
Web 2.0 (present): You walk into a room. Someone points at the buffet and says, “Enjoy!” You turn to see a 100-foot-long buffet table, piled high with every kind of food imaginable. To be fair, some of the food is durian, head cheese, and chilled monkey brains, but that’s cool, some people are into those…and trust me, they are even more psyched to be here than you are.
throughout undertale, frisk has shown positive qualities through their actions independent of the player. however, most of their decisions are made by the player, which includes kind or cruel ACTs, FIGHT, and MERCY. whether the battle options are provided by frisk, chara, or a combination of the two is left up to speculation. regardless, there is evidence that frisk is a pacifist at heart. in certain circumstances, frisk will resist the player and refuse to be cruel even when instructed to do so.
hangout with undyne
frisk can only enter undyne’s house if all monsters have been spared. even if frisk kills a monster after fleeing from undyne’s battle, undyne will refuse to open her door, saying she “won’t hang out with a murderer.” the hangout can only occur if frisk is completely innocent of murder, and thus free of chara’s influence.
during the hangout, there are many instances where options are provided to the player. one option has the player choose how frisk will pound the vegetables.
UNDYNE: Envision these vegetables as your greatest enemy! Now!! Pound them to dust with your fists!! NARRATOR: (How will you pound?) [Strong / Wimpy]
regardless of which the player chooses, frisk does not harm the vegetables.
NARRATOR: [Wimpy] (You pet the vegetables in an affectionate manner.) [Strong] (You punch the vegetables at full force. You knock over a tomato.)
it appears that if frisk has not committed murder, frisk is gentle with the vegetables even when “strong” is selected, despite having been asked to “pound them to dust.”
there is an even more compelling instance of frisk refusing to cooperate with the player at the end of the visit. after undyne accidentally lights her kitchen on fire, she will challenge frisk to a final rematch to regain her lost pride. in this fight, the player can choose to FIGHT. however, no matter how accurate the hit is, the attack will only deal 1 HP of damage, the exact same amount as the “fake hit” ACT. having befriended undyne, frisk appears to resist the command to fight and instead uses the “fake hit” action. since frisk can only hang out with undyne in the pacifist route, this means that frisk’s personality is dominant. undyne cannot be harmed by frisk because frisk has no desire to hurt, even when they are instructed to.
date with alphys
the date with alphys is another event available only if the player has not killed any monsters. what makes this event unique is that it’s the only time where options are provided in a bizarre style: the words have improper capitalisation and incorrect grammar. because of how unusual it is, it’s possible that someone other than the narrator, perhaps frisk, provides these fun and flirty options for the roleplay.
OPTIONS: YOur cute, THEN SHe Kisses YOu Yo your one hot hotbaby Alphys gives u a kiss,
while this isn’t an indication of frisk resisting the player, it is a possible example of frisk influencing or overriding the available options.
battle with snowdrake’s mother
the true laboratory is available only when the run is locked into a pacifist route. it is in here that multiple amalgamates can be fought, including snowdrake’s mother. interestingly, in the fight with snowdrake’s mother, there are two ACTs that can be selected to be cruel: “laugh” and “heckle”. no other fight gives the player the opportunity to act cruel.
if the player selects “laugh,” the flavour text reads as followed.
the narrator is confused because frisk did not follow the selected ACT; frisk refused. this is something not generally seen in the game.
if the player selects “heckle”, the flavour text reads as followed:
once again, the narrator has to correct themself because frisk refused to act in the expected manner. the narrator may even be upset with frisk, if the second flavour text is directed at frisk.
it’s important to note that once frisk enters the true lab, there is absolutely NO potential to kill any monsters. any attack on the amalgamates will do no damage – instead, random words flicker in place of damage numbers and the amalgamate’s health bar increases. while the attacks on snowdrake’s mother can do damage, her health bar will never lower completely after a certain mark. this means there can be no more kills once frisk enters the true laboratory. this prevents the player from aborting the pacifist route at this point.
approaching the amalgamate
there is another event that occurs in the true lab that showcases frisk’s resistance, as pointed out by @z0eya. it occurs in one room in the true lab, where there is a bathtub with a strange shadow.
despite there being no obstacles to slow frisk down (such as spider webs or water), frisk walks at a much slower pace than normal. it’s much slower than frisk ever walks in any part in the game. it’s interesting that this occurs only in the true lab. it showcases frisk’s fear or hesitation, which is a form of resistance against the player’s choice to move forward toward the shadow.
saving frisk’s friends
the last fight of the true pacifist route is also unique. in the fight with the lost souls, none of the options are malicious, with the only exception being the “insult” ACT towards papyrus, who takes any comment as a compliment. whether these options are provided by the narrator or frisk is uncertain.
however, there is another unique circumstance in this fight. attacking the lost souls will result in all attacks missing.
unlike in sans’ fight, none of the lost souls move to dodge or avoid frisk’s attack.
it is possible that this is simply the nature of the battle, given that frisk cannot land a hit on asriel either. however, frisk has shown to be able to hold back on fight in undyne’s fight, so it’s not too far a stretch to believe frisk can intentionally miss as well. frisk may be refusing to hit the lost souls, despite being commanded to do so by the player.
what these events demonstrate is that while frisk is under the player’s control, they can resist the control in certain situations because they are free from the negative impact of murder. this theory supports the ideas that:
frisk is more than just a puppet, and has their own sense of agency
frisk is kind and nonviolent at their core
the player (and chara) has far less influence over frisk in a pacifist route when there are no kills
“Are you sure you alright?” Spiderman asked as I looked over the building.
“What?” My head shot to him thoughts running through my mind.
“You seem a little off.” He chuckled. “For a couple weeks actually—since that Valentine’s dance.” I shivered looking toward him.
“Yeah sorry.” I mumbled. “I have an english test tomorrow.” I lied. “I’m a little nervous.” I actually was, but not for a made-up english test. It was Peter—he hadn’t exited my thoughts for two weeks, ever since the dance. It scared me, every time I saw him my heart beat quickened.
“You’ll do fine Y/N.” He nodded. I shrugged wrapping my arms around my waist.
“Don’t you have people to save?” I asked him.
“Not right now.” He replied. “I’m spending time with you.” I glanced over at him.
“Don’t you have a life?” I asked. “I mean I would think Spiderman would have a girlfriend of some kind. Like maybe Fireflygirl or something?” He laughed shaking his head.
“No I don’t.” He laughed. “And that would be a stupid name.”
“I like it.” I shrugged. “She could be your light.” I joked.
“I like the dark.” He replied as I giggled. “Besides—I don’t really have time for a girlfriend.
“Yeah with saving the world and such?” I asked. “If it makes you feel better I haven’t had my first kiss yet.” I blushed.
“Why is that surprising?” I asked looking up at him.
“Well—you’re really pretty. I thought you would have some experience.” I blushed again shaking my head.
“There’s more to kissing someone then just looks.” I said. “Especially with me.”
“Why?” He asked. I shrugged.
“I don’t really trust people…” I whispered. “So the action of trusting someone—even for something as simple as a kiss…I don’t know it freaks me out.”
“Don’t you have anyone you trust like that?”
“Besides you?” I asked a blush on my cheek. “You are about the only male that I am not related to that I trust—wait no just only male.” There was a silence for a couple seconds before I turned looking at him.
“So.” I walked toward him.
“So?” He asked.
“I’m gonna ask you something—and you can say no if you want.” Nerves flooded me as I looked up at him.
“Alright…” I swallowed stepping closer to him. “Can I—can I kiss you?” There was a silence again and I turned bright red.
“You know I’m wearing a mask right?” He asked.
“Yeah.” I whispered reaching up to feel the fabric. “I can still kiss you.” I said folding up the mask so it rested on his nose. I let out a shaky breath as I looked at his pale lips and then back at his eyes which were still covered.
“Alright then.” He whispered. “Kiss me.” I swallowed, I wasn’t really expecting him to say yes, but now I really had no choice. I leaned up slowly inches from his lips.
“Are you sure you are guy?” I asked. He chuckled a cute grin expanding on his face. It seemed familiar but I couldn’t place it.
“Yeah.” I swallowed again. “I’m sure.” I nodded slowly before pressing my lips against his for a half of a second before pulling away quickly.
“Okay I kissed you.” I blushed
“That wasn’t a kiss.” He mumbled.
“Yes it was.”
“No it wasn’t.”
“I thought you wanted to kiss me.”
“Try again.” He said.
“Really.” I sighed leaning up again attaching my lips against his for longer this time squeezing my eyes shut. I was about to pull away until I felt his arm around my waist and his hand move to the side of my face. Our lips moved together as I my heart raced more nerves flooding me. It felt nice…really nice. It felt like there was fire on my lips and I couldn’t pull away. I felt his tongue roll against my bottom lip. We continued to kiss as my lungs begged for breath. But—there was something missing, my mind run a mile a minute until it came to a conclusion. Peter. My eyes squeezed tighter as I thought about him guilt filling me as Spiderman held me closer. I pulled away from him breathing heavily.
“I can’t.” I breathed. “I can’t do this.” I turned away from him biting my lip.
“Y/N—” His hand circled around my wrist turning me around again. “It’s just a kiss…” He trailed off.
“It’s not—I didn’t want—I shouldn’t have kissed you.” I said tears threatening my eyes.
“Why not?” He asked as he pulled his mask down again.
“Because—I—I just—I think…I think I like someone else.” I admitted fear gripping me.
“You never said you liked me Y/N.” He sighed. “It’s okay.”
“But I shouldn’t have kissed you!” I told him. “I thought that it would work get him out of my head but I can’t—”
“It’s alright Y/N.” He sighed.
“Don’t you want to know who?” I asked throwing him a confused look. He was always interested in anything It told him.
“No.” He shook his head. “I-I really don’t.”
“Why not?” I asked.
“Because it’s not like know him.” He shrugged.
“I thought you would talk to me about it.” I mumbled.
“Well you are wrong.”
“Peter. Peter Parker.” I said quietly.
“What?” Spiderman said.
“Peter Parker— that’s his name. That’s who I can’t get out of my head.” I turned to look at Spiderman as he froze looking down at me.
“Oh.” He said softly. “He seems…nice.” He nodded.
“You don’t know anything about him.” I gave him a confused look.
“I know— I just…he seems nice.”
“I danced with him at the Valentine’s Dance.” I mumbled. “It was really nice.” I looked over the city my hands fiddling with each other. “Really really nice.” I whispered. “And he is really smart—like really smart.” I added.
“Why don’t you tell him?” He asked. “You seem to like him…” I blushed shaking my head.
“I can’t—I don’t.” I stammered. “I was really mean to him.” I mumbled.
“I’m sure he’s already forgiven you.” Spiderman replied. I shrugged running my hands through my hair.
“You want to know the truth?” I turned to him. “I’m scared.”
“Why would you be scared?” He asked. “I’m sure he really likes you.”
“How would you know?” I asked narrowing my eyes.
“Uh—h-he danced with you didn’t he?”
“Yeah.” I blushed a smile forming on his face. “I’m sorry.” I mumbled.
“What for?” He asked.
“For kissing you—I shouldn’t have done that we are friends and that’s weird—”
“You shouldn’t apologize for kissing me Y/N.”
“I probably sucked in comparison.” I mumbled.
“I actually—uh haven’t ever kissed anyone.” He replied.
“You’re kidding.” I raised my eyebrows. He crossed his arms looking down at me.
“Way to make me feel bad.” He grumbled.
“No no it’s fine.” I blushed. “You just—you seemed to know what you were doing…”
“So did you.” He shrugged. I blushed again shaking my head.
“Alright.” I said awkwardly. “I think I’m gonna go study.” He nodded.
“Don’t listen to your music that loud, you’ll blow out your eardrums.” He said.
“No promises webs.” I smiled walking toward the fire escape.
“Hey Y/N.” Ned greeted as I walked into the tutor center the next day. “Ready to learn about more Algebra?”
“Sure?” I laughed sitting on the table taking out my stuff.
“Um so Peter’s is going to tutor you today.”
“Oh.” I mumbled nerves flooding me. “U-um why?” I asked. I wasn’t thrilled for Peter to see how dumb I was. Of course he had tutored me before, but it was completely different now.
“Uh—I’ve got stuff.” Ned said. I narrowed my eyes.
“What kind of stuff?” I asked.
“Just stuff.” He shrugged. “Hey Peter!” He grinned at his friend. I blushed knowing he was right behind me. “Can you tutor Y/N today? I’ve got other stuff to do.”
“E-er sure.” Peter mumbled.
“Great.” Ned smiled before collecting his stuff. “I’ll see you guys later then.” He said before exiting the tutor center. Peter put his backpack on the ground and took a seat next to me.
“Um so.” He started. “Where are you in the chapter?”
“Uhhh…” I started paging through book. “We were learning about factors, but I got that down pretty easily.” I said. “But I’m having a little trouble with the word problems.” Peter nodded pulling the book towards him.
“Alright let’s try number one then.” He said glancing at me a blush forming on his face. I nodded again.
“Mrs. Madden had fifteen yards of wire.” I started. I continued a blush on my face as I stumbled over words due to the nerves that filtered through my stomach. Now he thinks I can’t read, nice job Y/N.
“Er so we pull out all the numbers in this problem, don’t forget the labels.” He started point to certain words. “All the word tend to confuse a lot of people.” I nodded beginning to write down the numbers in a list. My hand brushed his and he blushed heavily his hand running through his hair.
“A-are you done?” He asked. I nodded slowly. “Alright,” he continued to explain the problem. I glued my eyes to the sheet trying to understand. “So write it down then solve the problem.” He finished. I started to write before I stopped abruptly heat filling my face.
“I still don’t get it.” I dropped my pencil. “Gosh Peter, I’m really sorry—I’m so stupid.” My hand fell into my hands.
“Hey—” He started as I felt his hand on my back before he pulled it back immediately. “You aren’t stupid—trust me.” I looked up at him shaking my head. “I once tutored Linda Molen.” He started. “I asked her what 6 times 3 was—she didn’t know.” I raised my eyebrows looking over at him.
“Are you serious?” I asked.
“Yeah.” He chuckled his cheeks a little pink. “I asked her to guess and she said 32.”
“That’s 8 times 4.” I giggled. Peter smiled.
“See you got it.”
“Peter we learn times tables in 4th grade.” He blushed again shaking his head.
“Right well you got a B on your test.” He said. “That’s amazing Y/N.” I blushed.
“Yeah thanks to you.” I mumbled. He blushed again his gaze meeting mine. “Uh—Peter.” I mumbled as he stared at me.
“Sorry.” He blushed harder.
“Is there something on my face?” I asked growing nervous. Great. I look even more stupid.
“N-no. You just look—” He started. “Uh nevermind.”
“I’m not wearing make-up today so I know, I look like shit.” I mumbled.
“W-what?” He asked. “Yeah—I mean no—no you don’t look bad at all.” He turned red. “You look—uh really pretty today.” He mumbled. “Not that you don’t look pretty every day—” He said quickly as I blushed furiously.
“U-um thanks.” I mumbled. There was a silence before I spoke again. “Um so the wire—”
“Right.” Peter cleared his throat before continuing to explain the the problem.
“Yeah!” Peter smiled. “That’s right, you got it!”
“Really?” I asked. He nodded. “Good.” I breathed in relief. “It only took me four times. You sure I’m not dumb Parker?” I asked.
“Positive.” He said. I blushed for the millionth time.
“Shit.” I breathe looking at my phone. “I’m gonna be late to work.” I quickly closed my books. “Sorry that I have to leave.”
“No-no it’s fine.” He smiled helping me get ready.
“Um I can try the rest of these questions and then we can review them next week if you want.” Peter nodded.
“Sounds good.” He said. Our fingers brushed each others again as I blushed.
“Okay.” I said throwing my backpack on my back. “Thanks—again.”
“No problem.” He smiled. I blushed again walking toward the doors of the tutor center the nerves slowly exiting my stomach.
Imagine your otp being famous and in a relationship except its hidden so
nobody knows about it until one day they wake up and find it on all the
front covers of newspapers and magazines. What happens next is whatever
Makoto Naegi was buttering some toast on top of the
center island island in Kyoko’s kitchen when a notification sound went off on
his phone. He set down his knife next to the toast in front of him, then picked
up his phone to find a text message from Komaru.
“Check out celeb news. You guys are hot gossip.”
Upon reading it, Makoto furrowed his brow in confusion. “Huh?”
he said softly to himself. Not knowing where to even find such a thing, he
typed “celebrity news” into the search engine and tapped the first link he got.
He was greeted by a giant image of himsef and Kirigiri at
the top of the web page. They were walking, talking, and holding hands at the
park. The headline “ULTIMATE LOVE?” was plastered across the top.
He immediately returned to the search page and checked
the next link on the list.
This one had a photo of the two of them on a park bench,
where Makoto was leaning into Kiri’s shoulder as she smiled at him. The words
in the top-right corner said “New Hope Through Love.”
A nervous laugh escaped Makoto’s mouth. This was just weird. He once again touched “Back” on
his phone, then tapped the third link.
Now it was a long-distance shot of the two of himself and
Kyoko kissing. It was a little blurry, and the leafy edges betrayed that it was
taken from between some trees, but the headline still appeared proud as it
pronounced, “Romance From Despair.”
“What the hell?”
Makoto blurted to no one.
Kyoko Kirigiri entered the kitchen at that moment, still
slipping into her jacket as she did so. “What’s the matter? Is the toaster
acting up again?” she asked.
Makoto was already developing beads of sweat on his
forehead. “It’s the… you and me… ”
Kyoko strolled to the opposite side of the island from him and pushed
a button on the coffeemaker, where her mug was already resting expectantly. She then turned back towards Makoto to shoot him an
expectant look. “We what?” she
prodded, smiling slightly.
Makoto held up his phone anxiously, showing her the last
headline. “Apparently we’re… news?”
he said at last.
Kyoko’s mouth quickly turned into a small frown as she
leaned forward to look at the phone more closely, then reached up and snatched
it out of his hand. Makoto watched her scrolling, tapping, and generally
working the phone with a greater speed than he could manage himself. As she did
so, her scowl deepened.
“I should’ve expected this,” Kyoko grumbled. “I even
noticed the photographer while we were on our lunch date yesterday. I thought
he was just doing nature shots.”
“I didn’t see anybody,” Makoto offered.
“He didn’t want you to,” she told him. “He was sneaking
behind the trees and bushes, though it’s only ‘sneaking’ in hindsight. I didn’t
pay much attention since I thought he was doing close-ups of the foliage, and
my own mind was…” Her frown disappeared instantly, transforming into a
pleasant smile as she finished, “It was elsewhere.” She looked up at Makoto
again, holding the smile, and Makoto blushed silghtly as he stared back into

You smiled when he looked at you, almost puzzled by your kindness and understanding. He watched as your smile turned into a cheeky grin. Just as Bucky was about to move closer to you, to make some kind of move towards intimacy, Natasha came strutting into the room. She asked for your help and pulled you away from him, leaving Bucky alone and desperately aching for more of your touch.
You were home for a week and you started growing suspicious of your friends. During your first night back it seems they noticed the connection between you and Bucky. How you seemed to gravitate towards each other like an invisible force was trying to pull you closer together. Now any time you were just about to make the slightest contact, something would come up.
It started out unsuspectingly enough. You had been alone in the lounge with Bucky the day after your return and he was telling you about his past. Just as the moment was turning a little more heated, Natasha had walked in. She asked for your help and effectively ended your moment with Bucky.
