weak and sensitive

I’ve done quite a bit of research on axolotls now for my side project and I can’t believe I slept on these weird little animals for so long. Here are my favorite axolotl facts:

  • they look so cute and funky because, by amphibian standards, they are permanent babies. They can go through metamorphosis and turn into ordinary-looking salamanders, if it’s induced.
  • if they metamorphose, though, they lose the ability to re-grow almost any part of their body as good as new, including entire limbs.
  • it is very easy to overfeed them by mistake, because they just don’t do much at all and love to put things in their mouths.
  • they can’t be kept with anything in their tanks bigger than sand, like pebbles, because they will swallow the pebbles.
  • A fat, overfed axolotl looks only a little different from a gravid axolotl, which looks only a little different from an ordinary female axolotl, because they are basically like dumb soft tube socks filled with hundreds of eggs forever.
  • their eyes are weak and light-sensitive, and they have no depth perception. You have to feed them food that moves, or feed them by hand while wiggling the food a lil, because they do not notice food that stays still.
  • The one thing they are best at is eating things, and they even manage to be not very good at that. Their best is not good. Their best is awful.

they are so delicate and so good at just bumbling into mortal danger that actually trying to keep one alive and happy would stress me out, but I love them with all of my heart.

masterofenthropy  asked:

Hi HeyWriters! I was wondering: do you have a tip to create a weak point on main characters? I´m making a story, but I´m having trouble since my main character is TOO overpowered. Could you help me with this?

(All of this is written under the assumption your character has superpowers or “special” abilities, so forgive me if you meant a different kind of power.)

I created a character concept when I was twelve. She had all the superpowers of my favorite heroes and then some. As time wore on she gained more and more until eventually my adolescent brain invented logic and realized she was actually ridiculous. Here’s how I depowered this character, who’s name is Ace, without completely ruining her coolness.

Step One:

Don’t be greedy. Any ability that does not contribute to the story needs to go. It’s taking up space that could be filled with credibility. I decided early on that Ace didn’t need most of her abilities, and by the end of the story she only relies on a few to get the job done. Also, if a character can do more than one thing that are all basically the same thing some of those should probably go (invisibility and camouflage, superspeed and teleportation, etc.).

Step Two:

Apply real-world science. If you try to make your depiction realistic, you’ll want to have an idea of how these abilities might work and how they might not. Of course, you should suspend disbelief for some things if they’re truly essential to your character, but others can be adapted. For Ace there are some powers that only work under the right circumstances, and others that her body rejects or that give her physical pain when she uses them. Most importantly, special strengths come with special weaknesses. Sensitive hearing means loud noises are more jarring or harmful, regeneration means metabolism speeds up and the person needs to eat as much as a body builder. Any superpower you pick out will have a drawback, I guarantee it; if not a physical one than a social one (I’ll get to that).

This scene from The Incredibles is an excellent demonstration of superpower drawbacks.

Step Three:

Consider how the character feels about all this power and why they obtained it in the first place. Ace was not born with abilities, but over time she chose certain powers for the purpose of defending herself or others. Some of her powers fade away when she stops using them, like any skill you fail to practice, and some abilities she just plain old refuses to use for personal reasons. Some are too difficult or time-consuming for her to master, and some even trigger memories of her traumatic past thus she discards them. This way she has a choice in the matter and her choice is not to bite off more than she can chew or what she doesn’t want in the first place.

Step Four:

How do other characters feel about all this power? Perhaps some or all of your character’s powers intimidate, frighten, or anger others in the story. One of Ace’s friends dislikes how unstoppable she is, and others are taken aback by some of the things she can do or how she looks when she does them. On the whole, she hides what she can do or picks small things to do instead of big things, downplaying her own power when necessary. How your supporting characters react to the force of nature that is your MC is the most important aspect of her power.

Here’s an example from the X-Men of how other characters might react.

For additional opinions and advice, read this https://mythcreants.com/blog/five-characters-that-are-too-powerful/ and take to heart its ending line: “There’s only one fix that avoids all the pitfalls of overpowered heroes: refrain from making them really powerful in the first place.”

Yes, Ace is a flawed concept and all the advice I just gave is only a patch kit for that flaw. However, overpowered characters continue to excite readers and viewers alike, so I would never suggest we dispense with them altogether. Just, when you’re getting a headache from how overwhelming your character is, it’s good to consider dialling it all back and focusing on the power of their personality instead.

Super apologize for taking so long to respond, and thanks for asking in the first place.

things i love about my hero academia

(not all of them because then this would turn into a 500 page journal that could be published and sold and no one would buy it because no one is as much of a nerd as i am)

  • our main protagonist is not a traditionally masculine hero. he’s small, he’s weak, he’s a crybaby, he’s sensitive. especially in the shounen genre, this is a pretty rare thing to see, and even as Izuku grows as a person and becomes more confident in himself, he’s still shy and anxious.
  • he’s also a fanboy!! and not in a bad way!! it’s his fanboy nature that allows him to express himself and show how smart, intuitive, and observant he is
  • the character who does get all the traditionally masculine traits is the character everyone in the main cast acknowledges is a total asshole who mercilessly bullied and abused his classmate/childhood playmate
  • it’s also very clearly seen that Izuku has been conditioned (unintentionally) to fear Bakugou because of all of that physical and emotional abuse. just because he’s a hero in training and he’s learning and growing and becoming more confident doesn’t erase all of those years of bullying
  • it’s also acknowledged that they are children and still have room to grow. Bakugou is an asshole, but he’s not totally villainized for his behavior and is given the chance to change and become a better person because he’s only sixteen years old and still has time to change
  • and he does!! he makes an effort to change and try to adjust his behavior to make a more positive impact (even if it is a slow and arduous process, we do see him make great strides throughout the manga)
  • it would have been really easy to just throw Bakugou under the bus and make him a villain, but instead we get to see his growth as a person as he matures and enters the world of adulthood
  • All Might is the no. 1 hero, the Symbol of Peace, the man everyone thinks is invincible, and he has a chronic condition. he’s missing his stomach, he’s had multiple surgeries, he spits up blood, he literally looks like a skeleton, guys. but even after the reveal, people still admire and look up to him as an idol because he’s still All Might and he still protected and saved a lot of lives and was still a hero
  • All Might’s relationship with Izuku just in general. seriously, i could make an entirely different list just based on their relationship and 95% of the fandom has already talked about them, so i won’t gush about their relationship too much here
  • the fact that most of the adults take responsibility when they fuck up. the police force realize they’ve relied too heavily on heroes, specifically All Might, and they make an effort to change that so they can help people. the teachers at UA recognize that they’ve neglected students who need psychological help. Izuku’s mom acknowledges that she should have encouraged his dream in spite of his quirklessness. most stories, even in the west, don’t have nearly as much adult responsibility as this series does
  • the elusive living anime mom
  • okay but seriously, Inko is quite possibly one of the best fictional moms i’ve seen in a long time. she’s loving and encouraging and she tries her hardest, but she’s not perfect. she’s a single mom caring for her son, who wants to go into this incredibly dangerous profession. and when he gets hurt enough times, when her limit is finally met, she puts her foot down and says “no. i love you, but i can’t let you keep getting hurt like this.” like any reasonable parent would. and the only way she relents is when she sees how much Toshinori wants to teach him and nurture him and encourage him and see his dream recognized and she sees how badly Izuku wants to continue down this path, even if it’s under her terms.
  • this series seriously tackles a lot of topics that you wouldn’t expect it to. you know you’re gonna get the usual topics like what makes a hero, what makes a villain, etc. but, it also goes over other subjects like bullying, parental abuse, discrimination, grief, inferiority complexes, how easy it is to create a monster, redemption. this is a manga about teenagers learning to be super heroes, how did it turn out like this
  • it would have been so easy to sexualize any of the girls. this manga, in the hands of a lesser author, would have featured a lot of fan service shots of the girls. Momo especially, considering she wears a very revealing outfit. and yet, none of them are sexualized?? in any way shape or form??? yeah, we see Momo shirtless a lot and some girls wear skin tight outfits. but, you know who else has skin tight outfits and revealing hero costumes? the boys. and when we do see a shirtless girl or boy, it’s not framed in a way where we’re meant to be objectifying their body. there’s a reason why it happened and we move on. it’s so refreshing.
  • (there are only two fan service female characters. one uses her sexuality to get free shit and the other is meant to make you uncomfortable. take it what you will)
  • we get a lot of unique designs for each of the characters. there are no same faces. each character has a unique quirk and a design that belongs to them. they aren’t interchangeable with one another. Izuku looks like Izuku. All Might looks like All Might. they all look unique with different shapes and sizes
  • (admittedly the manga still kind of falls under the trap of the boys get to have weird, strange designs and the girls all kind of look cute, but it’s not nearly as bad as some other shows. and honestly, if that’s my only complaint, that says a lot)
  • fighting doesn’t solve everything! there’s a really incredible few chapters in the manga dedicated to acknowledging that Izuku and Bakugou seriously need to talk to each other about what Bakugou did to him. they’re both incredible people in their own right and they can learn a lot from each other, but only if they stop fighting and actually communicate with each other. one of the chapters is literally titled “a meaningless fight”. because it is meaningless. it’s not going to solve their problems, fix past mistakes, or make them feel better. it’s a fight to get aggression out because Bakugou doesn’t know any other way to deal with his emotions and trauma.
  • kindness is rewarded!!! cruelty is not!!! i’m really sick and tired of TV shows and movies trying to sell this pessimistic outlook that everything sucks and that gives us the right to be assholes to each other just because it’s edgy. My Hero Academia is such a positive manga and it brings me so much joy and happiness and it sends such a wonderful message of anyone can be a hero if you have a good heart and that kindness will be rewarded, even if it takes a really long time.

i love this manga so much and it’s given me so much light and happiness in my life and if that makes me weird because it’s anime, then fine. whatever. i don’t care. i’ll love it for as long as i can, dammit.

Humans are space orcs #317

So imagine an alien race with only one gender or who have like really different gender characteristics or something.

First, they have trouble understanding that there are genders, because we look really similar regardless of gender, two arms, two legs, no colour scheme to separate “male” from “female” exclusively.

Second, no matter how many times some humans say there are only two genders, others say there are many. It seems, the aliens conclude, that all humans have their own way of defining how many genders there are, and how these are allowed to interact.

Third, the aliens soon discover that the humans get really awkward if you bring up mating (“fucking”) with another human around. And as we all know, humans are space orcs and nothing seem to faze them, so having found this small weakness, the aliens likes to exploit it and mess with the humans as often as they can.

“Officer Toft?”

“Are you and officer Alvarez a couple?”

The humans looked at each other. Their faces scrunched together and assumed a colour resembling the mess hall walls. The ensign could barely contain its delight.

“We are both men, ensign. Just because we are the only two humans…”

The human trailed off, blushing harder by the minute and refusing to meet the eyes of its fellow. The other human looked surprised and then a small smile erupted on its face. It reached out its hand and placed it carefully on top of the others knee.

“We are not a couple, but I understand your confusion,” it proclaimed. “I mean, we are usually keeping pretty close.”

The ensign nodded both antennae slowly, not sure where this was going.

The human who had spoke last moved closer to the other. The ensign immediately got a bad feeling. The human put its darker hand on the paler ones jaw and smiled sweetly before leaning in.

The ensign felt all vital fluids drain his extremities. Meeting mouths was highly inappropriate, not to mention unsanitary! Gagging, the alien fled.

The ensign leaned against the wall, weak legged, as its sensitive antennae picked up the scattered conversation between the humans.

“Wha…good for?”

“To mess… mess with them.”

“Also… anted to kiss you… really long time.”

More noices and the ensign moved away. There was certainly a downside to teasing the humans.

Mean Astrology: The Moon Signs

~Trigger Warning~

These came out a little…. meaner than anticipated. It’s downright cruel and will feel personal, though I promise you it’s not, but remember to TAKE IT LIGHTLY and if you can’t do that, think of it as something to avoid/learn from.

Aries: Your default setting is angry, it’s toxic and dangerous and no; that’s not as hot as you think it is. You’re selfish and uncaring even with the people you love. You lie when you get bored so you don’t have to deal with anyone else’s feelings. You are an undeveloped child who has to grow up and realize you hurt people and then expect them to forgive you because you’re a wounded child.

Taurus: You shut everyone out, don’t let them know. But then you expect them to bend over backwards for you; they’re not mind-readers! You complain about everyone being selfish and how no one ever “cares about ME” but whenever someone tries you act like you’re completely fine! You’re a hypocrite and you need to change your own fucking ways for once.

Gemini: Just because you don’t understand how to process your emotions doesn’t mean everyone else does, you suppress your feelings until it comes out in a tirade and you throw it all at people close. You’re smart, and you cut with your tongue. You see through people, see their most sensitive weaknesses and you will throw it all back at them when emotions rise, no matter what they mean to you. You need to learn you can’t take back what you say no matter what you do.

Cancer: Fuckboy. You’re so basic, you think you’re so thoughtful and kind-hearted but the truth is you are so self-absorbed in your own shit and unable to perform emotional labor for anyone else, that you forget that saying you’re kind and understanding and being kind and understanding are two very different things.

Leo: You are like the stereotypical toxic masculinity-form of emotional stability. Like you don’t have to act like a suburban dad who doesn’t know how to act when their daughter cries so you just don’t deal with it, it’s okay to cry and be soft. And to purposefully ignore other peoples’ hurt just because it’s easier not to deal with it? It’s downright shitty.

Virgo: You are the first one there whenever anyone needs you, and you always do your best as you always need to be relied on, but emotions aren’t logical. Not everyone feels better by breaking down their emotions and realizing how nonsensical they are. People don’t need to hear they don’t make sense, they probably already know. You need to accept that not everything is logical, and it’s almost never the solution in matters of the heart. Also, stop being so goddamn hard on yourself it gets old.

Libra: You are a case of “the grass is always greener” you are never satisfied with what you have, what you feel. You throw away friends once you feel you’ve found better ones to prioritize but you aren’t honest with them, you pretend you’re still all in but you don’t do anything but let them drift away. You cheat but you will never understand you’re not becoming a more accomplished person by throwing away genuine though imperfect people. People aren’t corporate ladders.

Scorpio: You are a mess of trust issues and insecurities but you’re so obsessed with control you don’t let yourself work it out, you don’t share it. You eat up emotions all around you but try to never feel your own. It’s barbaric and stupid. You let it culminate into self hate and anger, and you have a hard time forgiving although you would never share that out loud, you lie to people instead.

Sagittarius: You are an emotional rollercoaster, while your default outward expression is of peace and philosophical understanding, when the goings get tough you go from 0 to 100 way too fast, with any and all emotions. You need to realize that just because you feel things like a flamethrower, it doesn’t mean other people don’t feel the world on their shoulders too. You just go through it faster and don’t always share until it comes out antagonistically.

Capricorn: We get it, you feel like you had to grow up fast, be tough; never let anything take you down. But sometimes you have to realize that being tough is a two-edged sword; yes you feel stronger, but that means you don’t always let people in, don’t always act vulnerable and soft. You can’t dissociate from your loved ones when the goings get tough, you have to take down your walls; not be angry or simply not there.

Aquarius: You can’t just not process emotions and state that you’re a beacon of true mental health, it doesn’t work that way. And just because other peoples’ emotions make you “uncomfortable”, doesn’t mean you get to walk away from them. It’s uncomfortable because you beat that shit down so fast that you never realize its value or necessity and you do it to others just as much as you do it to yourself. Let feelings happen, you can’t deal with it by being up in arms.

Pisces: You manipulative assholes, you are not as wise as you think you are. You use other people’s emotions as toys until you get bored with them then press the self-destruct button and assume the role of the victim to make everyone feel bad for you, even though you’re to blame. You’re good with your tongue but you’re not smart enough to pull your games off. And if you keep them up? You will be alone just as you secretly fear.

Planets in the First House

In astrology, the first house represents self expression, identity, how one views the world and how the world views them.

Sun: Having Sun in the First House means you identify strongly with the image you present to others. Natives of this placement are optimistic, brave, competitive and natural born leaders. They just emit a light and warm presence. Their best self is displayed when they have made a mark on the world and when they are not obsessed over what others think about them. Although natives of this placement exude a confident aura, they have a sensitive ego that they feel they must protect.

Moon: Natives with Moon in the First House view the world through emotions. They are sensitive, intuitive, “baby-like” and expressive. As the moon changes phases, so do natives with this placement. Their emotions color their expression and as a result, they cannot hide how they truly feel. People may perceive them to be fragile and weak because of how sensitive they come across. They have a strong sense of empathy because they are attuned to the emotions of others. In addition, natives have a keen intuition because they are drawn to the moon’s psychic energy.

Mercury: With Mercury in the First House, natives have a powerful need of self-expression through communication. They are intelligent, witty, humorous, versatile and curious. Since they enjoy talking and communicating, they have outstanding social skills. Natives truly want to interact with all walks of life. They have a restless quench for knowledge that can only by satisfied by traveling, exploring and experiences all of life’s riches.

Venus: With Venus in the First House, natives view the world through beauty and art. They are elegant, poised, charming, charismatic and fit the ideal representation of society’s standards of beauty. Natives are easy to befriend because of how polite and pleasant they come across to others. Appreciation for art and beautiful objects are two significant things natives of this placement value and resonate with. While natives of this placement are pleasant and kind, they can also be very persuasive. Natives will use their charm for diplomacy, justice and to “keep the peace”.

Mars: With Mars in the First House, natives view the world through actions. They are active, energetic, dynamic and straightforward. New endeavors are begun with force, intuition and instincts. Natives tend to go through life being headstrong and may not fully think things through before doing something. As a result, others view natives of this placement as motivated, aggressive and even confrontational. They truly are not intimidated by what the world has to offer for them as they speak with their body language.

Jupiter: With Jupiter in the First House, natives view the world through optimism and philosophy. They are enthusiastic, “happy-go-lucky”, knowledgeable, wise and “larger than life”. Philosophy is deeply important for natives because they need to sustain some type of perspective on life. As a result, natives can be very explorative and adventurous. They seriously do not want to be tied down by societal means. Others view natives of this placement as extremely loud and wise because of how expansive and open-minded they come across.

Saturn: With Saturn in the First House, natives view the world through business and responsibilities. They appear serious, stoic, “adult-like” and people may say they have a “resting bitch face”. Natives of this placement had to deal with adult-sized concerns from an early age and as a result, they feel as though they are carrying the weight of world on their shoulders. Since they are old souls, they yearn to be taken seriously by others. An ability natives of this placement have is self-control.

Uranus: With Uranus in the First House, natives are not afraid to stand out and have unorthodox perspectives. They are eccentric, unconventional, idiosyncratic and rebellious. While society teaches people to conform to the rules and stay within a box, natives of this placement recognize the box, but do not care much about it. Since natives choose to be bold, different and non-conformist, they may feel like outsiders. It is not because they are not completely accepted by society, but it is more so the fact they are ahead of their time. They are wise and progressive souls with ideas that foster reform, innovation and advancement.

Neptune: With Neptune in the First House, natives express themselves artistically, sensitively and psychically. Environmental sensitivity is felt on an extreme level because of how attuned natives are to outside influences. There is confusion when it comes to identity. One person may think natives are sweethearts, while others may think natives are cold. This is due to the fact that others see what they want to see in natives of this placement. In addition, there is a shroud of mystery surrounding natives because of how alluring they come off as.

Pluto: With Pluto in the First House, you view the world in a transformative way. Natives are intimidating, intense, secretive, powerful and psychic. They need to be the head of the wolf pack because of their deep desire for power and authority. Since natives want to be seen as powerful, they hide their true feelings from others. Revealing too much about themselves is a huge “no no”. In that sense, people view natives as polarizing, mysterious and alluring.

His name is Kin… but the nickname “Moist” was way too good to pass up lmao.

Walk of Shame

Summary: You wake up after a night of drinking to James Barnes.

Pounding headache? Check. Weak stomach? Check. Light sensitivity? You cracked your eye and immediately shut it again. Check. You rolled over to pull the covers over your head and found that you weren’t alone. As a matter of fact, the bed you were in felt different than the one you usually slept on. You pushed yourself up on your elbows and flipped the hair out of your face.

Shit. This definitely was not your bedroom. You looked out the giant windows that seemed to overlook the entire city.

Oh god. What did you do last night?

You remembered going out with a couple friends to celebrate your birthday. You had more to drink than you should and Katherine took your keys. But why would they leave you alone with no way home?

Just then the person sleeping next to you groaned and rolled over, pulling the sheet that had covered him down enough for you to see who you had gone home with. There was a flash of silver and your hand flew to your gaping mouth.

You quietly slipped out of bed as the memories trickled back to you.

“Hey doll. Where’d your friends get off to?” A tall man asked, taking a seat next to you.

“Who knows.” You giggled as you turned to give him your full attention. “Oh God. You’re you.” You said, star struck.

He chuckled and ordered you another drink. “Yes I am. And you are?”

“Um. Y/N. Wow. Thanks for saving the day.”

“Oh that’s Steve’s job.” He said with a wink.

The two of you flirted and drank most of the rest of the night. Bucky drinking two or three for every one you finished. You both were pretty tanked by the time the bar lights came up and he insisted on sharing a cab.

You both poured yourself in to the car and you didn’t make it a block away from the bar  before your lips molded to his.

You threw on the short black dress you had worn the night before and scooped up your heels, trying to make as little noise as possible. Jeez. Why couldn’t you have worn a pair of jeans or at least something that didn’t scream “GUESS WHAT I DID LAST NIGHT” as you walked down the city streets. You kept your head down as you slowly shut the door to the bedroom behind you. The tiny click sounding like an explosion in the relative quiet that surrounded you. When you glanced around you were flooded with the memory of bouncing off of every  flat surface in the narrow hallway as Bucky kissed his way from your lips to your chest. His shirt was unbuttoned before he got the door open and he had his mouth latched on to your collar bone.

Once the door shut his shirt fell to the floor and your dress was pulled over your head. He quickly lifted you from the ground and you wrapped your legs around his waist as he moved you to the bed.  He dropped you on the mattress and you giggled softly as you bounced, you worried that your laughter had ruined the mood when his lips didn’t immediately find yours again.

Those worries were lost when Bucky flipped on the bed side lamp and you caught a glimpse of his face. His eyes were dark, pupils dilated from want and he was slowly running his teeth across his swollen bottom lip. He looked disheveled in the most beautiful way. You squeezed your legs together to ease the fire that was burning between them, you had never wanted anyone this bad before and it felt like you would burst in to flames at any moment.

The movement caught Bucky’s attention and he looked at your clothed core like a man starved. He sunk to the floor in front of your legs and pulled you to the edge of the bed. A feral noise ripped from his throat as he kissed the inside of your thighs.

“God damn Doll, you smell amazing.”

You moaned at his words, writhing beneath him as his hot breath hit your core. His thumbs hooked around the edges of your underwear and he bit and kissed your hips and thighs as he slid the flimsy material down your legs. You bucked at the air hoping for some friction.

“Please.” You begged, only able to muster a breathy whisper.

He drove in, licking a thick stripe through your folds and making your legs quake. He pulled back and made eye contact with you before taking the middle finger of his left hand into his mouth. He wet the metal enough to sink it in to you. His mouth returned to you before he slipped the sinfully cool metal in to your heat. You felt the knot in your stomach coil tighter as he attached his mouth to your clit and began working his tongue in  slow, lazy circles.

Your back arched and you twisted his comforter in your fists. You orgasm blew through  you when his mouth and hand picked up speed. He continued working his mouth on you as you came down from your orgasm.

“Please, James. Please. I need you.” You said as you pulled him up your body.

He paused long enough to pull off the rest of his clothes and to slip on a condom  and you got the first look at him fully naked. His body was pure sin and you pulled him down to you.

“Are you ready babygirl?” He asked, his voice shaking slightly.

You could only nod.

He slowly slid in to you and you felt yourself stretch. You groaned at the fullness.

He slowly started to rock in to you and his lips found yours again. Your walls clamped around his length as he reached down to rub your swollen clit. You rolled your hips in to his thrusts and you cried out.

“M'not gonna last much longer if you keep that up, doll.” He growled against your neck.

You moved faster, matching his frantic speed and it wasn’t long before you were flying. His name on your lips like a prayer.

“God. Baby. Gonna. Cum.” He panted, each word punctuated with a thrust.

“Come on baby.” You heard yourself whisper.

His thrusts became more frantic as his own release washed over him.

You shook your head back and forth, trying to clear the memories from your head. Bucky had been a very attentive lover and would make one hell of a story for your first on night stand but you wanted out of the tower before he had a chance to wake up or you ran in to the other people that occupied the space.

You had to have pushed the button for the elevator 60 times hoping that it would move a little quicker; you could hear the first signs of life coming from the other rooms. You were sure that this was a common occurrence for a Sunday, someone making their way from one of the rooms in the tower. You had never thought of yourself as a superhero groupie but you knew that they existed. Several girls camped out on the sidewalk of the tower every night on the weekend hoping to catch their favorite’s attention. You didn’t blame them, the Avengers were all stunning in their own way but that just wasn’t you.

You heard a door open behind you at the same time the elevator finally made it to the floor. You quickly shuffled in and started frantically pushing the close button. Your eyes stayed glued to your shoes until you heard a husky voice. “Hey, no wait.” The voice was almost frantic as you glanced up and you were met with steely blue-gray eyes. The doors closed before he could say anything else.

You leaned your head back on the cool metal of the elevator as you tried to gather your jumbled thoughts. Your rummaged through your purse to find your phone. You held the power button until it buzzed to life in your hands. There were 15 texts on your phone and you scrolled through them before letting your best friends know that you were more than okay. When the elevator made it to the lobby you made a bee line for the door.

Your phone vibrated in your bag, signaling an incoming call and you quickly reached in to your bag and ducked in to the first coffee shop you laid eyes on.

“Hey babe. What’s up?”

“Don’t ‘what’s up’ me when I know for a fact that you went home with an Avenger last night. How was he?” You best friend could be infuriating sometimes.

“Yeah. About that. Thanks for leaving me alone to let god knows what happen to me. Great friend.” You teasingly scolded her.

“Pu-lease.” She half whined at you. “We left you in good hands. They were good hands weren’t they?” You could hear her wiggling her eyebrows over the phone.

“Not over the phone, Kat! Get Mina and meet me at my place in an hour. I’ve got a cab to catch.” You quickly shut the phone.

                                                   Bucky’s POV

Bucky woke up with a smile plastered on his face. He rolled over to get a look at your sleeping form just to find your side of the bed empty and your clothes gone. He quickly jumped to his feet and threw on the first pair of sweatpants his hands touched.

He ran out the door and skidded to a hard stop as he saw you getting on the elevator.  He called out to you and you met his eyes for just a moment before the doors closed.

Does she regret it? He wondered to himself for a moment before he decided to act.

He ran to the emergency stairwell and took off. You were walking through the front door of the lobby before he made it down the last few steps. He saw you through the little window and jumped the stairs before bursting through the door after you.

You weaved your way through the crowd and he lost you.

Standing barefoot on a New York City sidewalk in the warm morning sun Bucky felt like a fool. He had met a wonderful girl, someone genuine, clever, and gorgeous to top it all off. And he just let her slip away. He rubbed his eyes with the back of his hand. Gone. No phone number, hell he didn’t even bother to get her last name.

Idiot. He scolded himself as he made his way back in to the building.

He called for the elevator and stood quietly waiting for it to reach him. When he got in he could faintly smell the perfume you had been wearing. He inhaled deeply before resting his head on the cool metal doors.

When the doors opened up he stood face to face with his best friend.

“Hey Buck. Whoa. Whats wrong?” He asked, taking in Bucky’s mood.

“Brought a girl home last night. She just took off. Left me with no way to contact her.” He said with a defeated shrug.

“Did the cameras get a good look at her?” Steve asked hopefully.

Bucky felt a smile spread across his face and pulled Steve with him to the security room.

                                                     Your POV

Kat and Mina burst into your apartment just as you were getting out of the shower with wild eyes and loud voices full of excitement.

“Girl! Where are you?” Kat’s voice rang out.

“Just a second!” You called tugging on a pair of jeans.

“Jesus! That’s one hell of a love bite.” Mina commented on the hickey on your collar bone that peaked out from your t-shirt.

You pulled the collar a little closer to your neck.

“So…” She started. “Did you get his number?”

“No. I got the hell out of there.”

“What?!?” They both half shouted at the same time.

“Look, I’ve never just gone home with a guy before and he can have his pick of the women in this city so I left to save myself the embarrassment. I didn’t want to have the 'I’ll call you’ talk with a friggin’ Avenger.” You said as your cheeks burned.

“From the way he was looking at you last night he made his choice. He had an awe-struck look on his face after thirty minutes of talking to you. And if he wanted an easy lay there were at least 6 other girls willing to go home with him a lot sooner. He spent all night getting to know you, you big dummy.” Kat said bluntly. Mina nodded in the background, agreeing with Kat, which is not something she did often.

“Well, shit. That would explain-”

“Explain what?” Kat interjected.

“This morning. When I was leaving, he must have noticed. He tried to stop me before the elevator took off.” you said with a shrug.

Both of your best friends looked at you like you had grown a second head.

Before either one could yell at you again for being an idiot there was a knock at your door.

“Don’t look at me like that.” You said to Kat as she shared a knowing look with Mina. “I’ve only been out of his bed maybe two hours and he didn’t even have my last name.” You said walking to the door. You turned the knob to open it without looking to see who was on the other side. “There’s no way in hell he found me at 11am on a Sunday.” Your friends stood shell shocked, unable to move their eyes from the doorway. You turned to see what had their attention and your eyes met a wall of pure muscle. You moved your gaze up to meet familiar blue gray eyes.

“Well, there may be no way in hell, but there must be one in heaven, Angel.” He said with a wink.

“Oh god, Bucky. You’re so corny. I’m sorry. Sorry that you had to hear that and sorry that I helped this lucky son-of-a-bitch stalk you. Tony. Tony Stark.” The legend himself said from his spot, leaning against the outside wall of your apartment. “Seems to me that you’ve got our dear child here totally love-sick and I can’t have him too distracted on our next mission.” he pushed off the wall and made his way down the stairs leading the exit. “See you back at the tower, Buck. Oh, and miss… I really am sorry.” He said with a mischievous grin.

“I… Um… Didn’t expect you to have company.” Bucky said as the nerves leaked in to his voice, all of his previous bravado gone.

“We were.. uh.. just leaving.” Mina said, pulling Kat with her as she exited the apartment. “Talk to you later.”

When the door clicked shut Bucky stepped closer to you. “So, Why’d you run off this morning?”

You told him the same thing you had just told your friends and he looked away.

“That’s not really my style, doll.” He said softly.  “I had a good time with you last night before the thought of going to bed with you ever crossed my mind. I had planned on getting your number and taking you out on an actual date but when you started talking, I never wanted it to end. And when we kissed I felt something I didn’t think I’d feel ever aga-” You cut him off by pressing your lips softly to his.

He returned the kiss until you finally pulled away.

“So, since you’re here now… Want to grab lunch?” You said with a smile.

He nodded and grabbed your hand, leading you out the door.

This may be the most true thing I’ve ever seen. To anybody who’s ever been told they’re too sensitive, I say that your strengths actually come from a societally-perceived weakness. Here’s to the criers, the laughers, the smilers, the learners, the empathizers, and all of the other ones who constantly put themselves out on the line.

hey when you feel awful about how you reacted to abuse and you think you must be weak and pathetic and blame yourself for not being stronger and more stable and unaffected by abuse, you know, it’s not just you, everyone would react the same way you did. Humans weren’t made to go thru trauma and pain without support and comfort, and stay unaffected, especially as children, all of us get hit by trauma and get paralyzed and broken by it, there is no human on this planet who would be able to go thru what you did and not feel the consequences. I know a lot of people play strong or act like nothing affects them, but it’s an act, they can get traumatized and abused just like everyone else. Some even go as far as to imply that only reason you were traumatized was because you were so weak and so sensitive, well that is bullshit and believe me they don’t know what they’re talking about, if they were subjected to the same trauma and abuse, with as little support and validation you had, they would be exactly where you are right now. Everyone would be exactly where you are right now. You haven’t reacted wrong or dealt with it wrong or taken damage from “nothing”, nobody can know how hard it was for you and how much you struggled except for you. Nobody else has the right to speak about it or tell you shit about how you should be reacting and how much it should be affecting you. They wouldn’t have taken it any better than you did. You did the best it was humanely possible.
