I'm not sure how you're going to take this but I just went by Victor Garber on the street and I did not accost him at all, just smiled when we made eye contact and moved on. I feel like I've let the fandom down but also like I did the right thing.
Dude you didn’t let the fandom down. Or at least, you didn’t let me down, that’s for sure. I’m proud. I’m ecstatic.
I’ll daydream in my head about meeting a celebrity, but what I always daydream about is not accosting them, believe it or not. Maybe incidentally helping them (idk I love giving people directions and such) and not mentioning that I know who they are or asking for an autograph or question.
I mean I have other daydreams too (about the Flash writers hiring me and me getting to talk to these actors about their characters lmao), but honestly, celebrity culture is so wild and uncomfortable to me that I hate to even reblog paparazzi photos most of the time (I’ll make a few exceptions) or people’s selfies with celebs.
So you walking right past with eye contact and a smile? Is beautiful to me. Celebs are human beings. If they’re in a situation where a selfie or a question or a comment is appropriate, that’s great. They know, to a certain extent, they sign up for a certain amount of extra attention when they go into a field like this. But they’re human and they have the right to just… go for a stroll, get some groceries, grab a coffee or a meal, all without being accosted.
So thanks for doing the right thing <3
