I've been trying to read up on the History lately, especially the AIDS crisis, and it's depressing as hell but there's so many stories of lesbians who tried to help gay and bi men however they could. It's a good reminder that we're stronger together.

honestly we owe so much to lesbians and bi women who stepped up when gay and bi men were barred from being w their partners in hospitals or were ill themselves .

its sadly rarely mentioned even in lgbt spaces how these women gave so much and weren’t even asked they just did it

#thankyoubones week | day four: 9 Angela Montenegro iconic/inspirational quotes

The impossible becomes reality all the time. Ideas, and memories, and love. You can’t hold those things in your hands, but it doesn’t mean that they don’t exist.

Dear Dreamworks and Studio Mir,

This probably won’t reach any of you people, but I just want to say on behalf of the whole VLD fandom(or at least the reasonable part of it) - we’re sorry.
We’ve been giving you a whole lot of bullshit lately, well, actually there was a little bullshit since the very beginning but now it escalated terribly, but the point is that you did not deserve this. No one does. I am sorry for all the discourses and ridiculous behavior, constant whining, bitching and complaining and generally I am- we all are - sorry about being so fucking extra 96% of the time.
We are especially sorry about the leaks and all the drama caused over them. It really isn’t fair from us to be like this.
Our, most deepest, sincerest apologies,

The VLD fandom(or at least all the reasonable members)

PS: I understand ppl who see this will be like ‘who does she think she is talking like this as if she some ambassador or something’ and you wouldn’t be entirely wrong but I just felt like it would be right to say something. The least we owe is an apology. So yea, once again, SORRY, SO MUCH SORRY.

Bts literally put their everything into what they do and give us their all. They go through so much and they try their best to make us happy, no matter how many nights they go without sleep or sometimes even food to do so, yet y'all don’t even have the decency to let them eat a meal in peace. We owe them so much, the least you could do is give them their privacy.

We are still making up the story so we doesn’t have a clear line of events, but we suppose they get to be mates around… half of the story? @__@
I’ll take them a while to get along ʕ•́ᴥ•̀ʔっ ❤

McCree and Tracer, on the other hand, instantly become friends ahahah

Hi! I wanted to know why you (and others) are upset about Joss Whedon directing Batgirl? I never heard he was sketchy before.

Omg Joss. My worst ex. My most tumultuous relationship with the greatest betrayals.

Here’s the thing about Joss. I was a PEAK Whedon fan, I was a devotee. I was really sure he was a dream come true. Here’s a dude making mainstream geek content who was raised by a serious feminist, who supports woman-devoted charities like Equality Now, who writes directly to my aesthetic by creating teeny little super powered female characters who can kick your ass up your throat. I loved Buffy, I loved Angel, I love Firefly, and Dollhouse, and even Avengers 1 for a long time.

So believe me when I say he deserves the anger that is directed at him.

1. Buffy is an interesting, deeply flawed peice of media with definite feminist aims, but it is also deeply racist, dabbles in various kinds of sexism, and riddled with problems.

2. I’d actually be alright with that existing in the mid 90s because I know what the atmosphere was in television and Buffy was legitimately hard to get made, EXCEPT- nothing about the way that Joss does things has changed since then.

3. In some ways his feminism is WORSE? Like he’s always had hangups about pregnancy and birth that were confusing and offputting, but he’s never had a female character call herself a monster because of her own infertility- until he did exactly that in Age of Ultron.

4. He literally gave a speech to a room full of feminists suggesting that we junk the word “feminism” because he was not a fan, completely ignoring that the word feminism A- doesn’t belong to him, as a man, B- acknowledges decades of history of brave and amazing women who have come before us to whom we owe so much.

5. His (rejected) Wonder Woman script basically features Steve Trevor as the main character who spends the whole movie teaching Diana about pain and suffering because apparently indoctrination into the patriarchy is the only way to fix WW. It’s also- bonus! Super homophobic!

6. EVEN HIS SHAKESPEARE ADAPTATION WAS SEXIST.

7. When faced with criticism for Age of Ultron, he had a mantrum on Twitter, blamed the studio for every problem, and then ragequit Twitter, leaving a bunch of his asshole male followers to attack the feminists he claims to support for chasing him off.

8. Firefly, his apparently “pure” vision that was not interfered with at all before it was cancelled, was a thin allegory of the reconstruction era FROM the perspective of a confederate captain basically galvanizing and idealizing the “Southern independence” lie that Americans push to pretend that the Civil War was not about slavery.

9. Literally thinks this shot is a good idea:

Hi Cassie! I've asked you this question for a long time, but since I got no answer ... Let me ask you again ... in Lord of Shadows can we find out why the Carstairs owe so much to the Herondales? Why does Emma need to protect Kit? I'm very excited for Lord of Shadows.

The Carstairs owe the Herondales (and the Herondales owe the Carstairs) because of the events of The Infernal Devices, and also the Last Hours – so you’re more likely to learn about why the Herondales and Carstairs owe each other from way back (beyond the manner in which they clearly already do in TID, as Will and Jem saved each other’s lives) in TLH than in TDA.

A lot of what TDA is about is the manner in which past deeds, good ones and bad ones, affect the present. It’s possible Jem may tell Emma about the past in more detail, but there are also times the past is referenced in ways the reader will understand even if the characters don’t need to. (Kit complains someone named Will H scribbled in a lot of the London Institute’s books, for instance!)

Can you please explain this "one word fic" on ao3 to me? I am totally clueless tbh. xx

Okay… you ready for me to go #deep into the conspiracy ;) Let’s look at “The One Word Test” by “””””Dale Pike”””””

S & M… are Sherlock and Mycroft…. and Mark and Steven.

M briefly sees S’s smile, before it’s quickly covered again. To be fair, S isn’t quite the actor that M is.

Mark is the actor. (As Mycroft).  Steven has already joked before, and most recently in the Cambridge Q and A that he can’t act.

Ever since that train ride — Do you know what I’ve always wanted to do…? Ah, yes, and do you know what would be unforgettable? — they can often communicate near-telepathically.

That train ride. …What’s that famous story of Mark and Steven first talking about Sherlock on a train hmm….

Mrs/Ms Pike is a mixture- foreshadowing Mary (her jewellery, the wedding ring, her saying “wet job” (as in Mary’s wet jobs for the CIA), her Mary head tilt…

But, she’s also S & M’s client. She is us.

She expresses fear to S & M about “what she thinks is going to happen.” Their “plan.”

“Ms Pike, would you say that you know what this case is really all about?”

Her eyes turn fully to him for the first time. “Wouldn’t.”

Odd phrasing. Things that are oddly phrased usually have meaning. “Then wh—“

She holds one finger up to her lips. Shhh.

M actually chuckles now. “Well. We’re in a locked room at the moment. The secret is safe with us, don’t you think?.”

Pike is worried about the secret getting out. But M says ‘we’re in a locked room’ (the heart of the conspiracy?), and ‘the secret is safe.’ And here’s the most damning bit about who she represents for me:

Furrow gradually shifts to frown. Frustration. She wants to get this.

M sighs. Don’t be too upset. It was fun. But now the game is—

Pike looks up sharply at S. Begins to grin again, just perceptibly. Everyone in the room knows what the case is about; she doesn’t need to say that. Cocks head to the right. Another angle, then. Her eyes scan, reading inwardly. Text, text. It’s all in the text. Her lips part in remembrance of things most passionate and most pure, her fingers spread into a five and she silently counts through them, down to the last word.

She wants to get the game. M is about the say the game is over, but is cut off- as she makes her deductions. Text, text. It’s all in the text. Right there, the true story. We were told…

And then she says their Plan is a Big Mistake. (Reichenbach-ing the show? Leaving us in turmoil?) She hints that people will talk (badly) and S is frustrated:  “People do little else,” S snaps. He doesn’t say That’s half the bloody point. The point is that people will say nasty things in reaction, a great backlash….

Also see @avimicah’s meta here on the ‘one word’/Pond/Doctor Who connection…very telling!

But then, we end on a more comforting note….

But M had seen the door crack open for a moment. She obviously didn’t plan showing this; it’s the one thing in her manner that has not been carefully controlled since her entrance to the flat… but there it is. Why this case matters to her.
Oh, Mr Holmes. I owe you so much.
M hasn’t done this sort of thing as much as S has, but he can tell when a client just needs a little reassurance. Talk them down from the ledge, softly. Softly.
“People will talk, Dale,” he says, with gentleness. “What should they talk about?”
Her faint image in the glass is a shadow that crosses the world outside. “Truth.”

The case matters to us, because we ‘owe’ the love story ‘so much’. It’s important. Representation matters. Who we are matters. And M knows this. Has to tell us. SOFTLY, SOFTLY.
People will talk, and we know that, in the end, they must talk about the truth. The true love story.

Now, who the exact author of this story is, is up to you… BUT I’d say the author’s notes become much more funny if you see them as being written by a real writer….

Apologies for:
1) Spoiler alert for Series 4. Or 5. Or whenever they get around to it.
2) Atrocities. I could probably be a good writer; if someone would just teach me how to use ellipses properly. And…

…semicolons.

Update: It’s been over a year and two episodes since I posted this. And wow, does it ever still hold up.

Nice grammar joke. Who does that remind me of….and a jibe about how long “they” take to get around to series 4 and 5…. making fun of the writers?… or teasing, self-deprecating, self aware humour……

And then, some gems from the final footnote:

4) Watch that unforgettable adventure narrated by Peter Falk.

PETER FALK WAS THE GRANDFATHER WHO NARRATED THE PRINCESS BRIDE. :)

Dear S & M (& ST… sorry, but you were hard to work in):

S & M…. who has the initials ST? …Ah, Stephen Thompson…. and he was much harder to work in because this was S & M’s plan, cooked up on that train….

Basically, read that story. Welcome to the heart of the conspiracy. ;)

So, I love how everyone is getting all into the eldritch horror visibly fae knowingly magical encounters. The descriptions are SO COOL.

But I’ve been thinking about how our understandings of the Fair Folk originated not with people who had these super obvious encounters with this visible magic figure. Instead, they come from people attuned to the ways in which this world as it is, is magical and frightening and overwhelming, and decided that eldritch monsters were the most logical and comforting explanation. So, I’ve been thinking a lot about how so many interactions with the fair folx could happen without the student knowing it….how many of these interactions and deals may have happened already. A few true stories: My roommate joined ROTC her freshman year. Four years of university for free, for five years of military service. Don’t tell me that there is just flesh and bone under the glamour of a military uniform, under the medals worn by those who watched her sign her contract. The Fair Folk have always loved games, and to gamble your life in the future of uncertain war is certainly worth $60,000 tuition per year for four years, plus a monthly stipend.  I have a friend whose financial aid is paid by a grant from some folks from New York City. In exchange, once a year she dresses up, takes out her piercings, and goes to dinner with them.

Sit with us, tell us the stories of your studies, sing for us. Oh, you don’t sing anymore? But you sing so lovely. Sing.

At these dinners, she does not let her smile drop.  I worked with a senior who would be Successful. They did everything, could not say no, every opportunity bigger than the last and they could Do It All. Directing a musical with a full orchestra in the biggest theater, performing across town themself in a different show each weekend for months on end, five classes and a thesis. One night, drunk and at 2am, a time were the glamour drops and world blurs into honesty, they said “I am so fucking lonely.” That is a powerful trade: love as fair as can be, a beating heart, community. But they wanted to be able To Do It All and they did.  A few years ago, the school was raising money for the endowment (the school is always raising money for the endowment). They were holding a fundraising dinner, with Big Important People who must be Inspired by Students Like You in order to donate. They gathered together the most talented performers of the whole university. Dancers whose bodies defied physics, pianists who seemed to play with extra hands, singer whose voices rang inhuman. Maybe there is a reason we already had those skills, it’s hard to know. We’ve all made so many sacrifices already to end up at a school where we can get not a single credit for our talents. Maybe something is already taking its due. Still. They gathered us, and planted us through the field to mime silent excitement as the Big Important People entered the tent in a procession. They had us perform for them – but never in the way we do best. Bottle up your talent, make it look like this. Dressed us all head to toe in white. Gave clear instructions.

Hand them this book. Collect these cards. They will write a wish. If they speak to you, just smile. Do not speak back.

They had us wait behind the kitchen.

Whatever you do, do not eat the food.

The university knows how to make a deal. They know what a little Talent and a little Dignity is worth. And we already owe them so much…why not this too?  In the morning I went back to where the tent had been, only to find an empty football field.  —— I feel like I have to add that the last story is literally 100% true. The others I have taken small creative liberties with (mostly the ‘lonely’ one cause I don’t want that person to be identifiable). But this one is hundo percent reality. Nothing I could add about it would make it sound less weird. They set up this crazy huge tent for it and thousands of dollars of lights and projection equipment, and the next morning had taken down the entire thing. They had this whole projection thing that took up a side of the stadium with a video about how great the university is, except I’d never even HEARD OF most of the professors or programs they interviewed or discussed in it (like its a big uni but still). Went to go look them up the next day, but couldn’t remember the names. They had us count a specific number of steps from one section to another. They had us do a weird running pattern on the stadium stairs that was supposed to look cool but I think just opened a portal in to my own personal hell. I still have the white sneakers and sweatshirt they gave us but I legit have not worn them since that night; I’m slightly scared to wear them but somehow can’t throw them out. When the donors walked in to the tent, we literally just stood around the field jumping up and down with excitement (silently) and waving flags (silently) and for the first time I understood Artaudian horror. They had cards at their table that they were supposed to write these messages on, and then we would collect them in these books, and honestly the whole night is pretty hazy but it was weird. The whole thing was directed by Tony Award winner Diane Paulus (I swear to you this is true). Guys I’m low key pretty sure I’ve been to a revel and let me tell you, you are not a participant. You are there, but at best you are quaint entertainment, to be hidden in the corner when you’re not amusing them. You will do what they ask you (tell you). And there will be a part of you sitting on your shoulder saying, are you really doing that? And the answer will be yes, and it won’t be until after you leave that the wave will crash over you, nearly drowning you in the question, as you sputter awake asking, WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK JUST HAPPENED?

harry potter rated by mentions of goats
  • philosopher’s stone: mentioned that a bezoar can be obtained from the stomach of a goat which would be pretty solid except its mentioned in the context of snape being a dick to some eleven year olds. the goats didn’t give up their magic healing kidney stones for this. 3/10
  • chamber of secrets: no mentions. 0/10
  • prisoner of azkaban: no mentions. 0/10
  • goblet of fire: both karkaroff and young dumbledore are described as having goatees, a type of facial hair that, unless you’re idris elba or brad pitt or someone, is probably best left to goats. first mention of my main man aberforth and his fondness for goats, though unfortunately phrased in a way that convinced half the readers he fucked a goat. 5/10
  • order of the phoenix: a nice bit foreshadowing in which the hogs head smells like goats. unfortunately, there’s also a mention of the giants eating dead goats. a harrowing image. -5/10
  • half-blood prince: harry reads the half-blood prince’s tip about bezoars and with some truly stunning information retention, remembers what snape said about them being an antidote to most poisons + coming from the stomach of a goat in their first ever potions lesson. i am so proud of him. harry uses this totally unprecedented feat of academic success to flunk out on doing any actual work and piss off hermione. worth noting that harry also uses a bezoar to save ron’s life, begging the question, would the wizarding world be ruled by voldemort and all of our faves be dead if it wasn’t for goats? the answer is yes. a monumental achievement for goats everywhere. we owe them so much. 20/10
  • deathly hallows: aberforth and his fondness for fiddling with goats returns. he apparently throws goat dung at people in times of stress- what a guy. a goat patronus saves the day by looking kinda like a stag if you squint a bit. aberforth reminisces about feeding the goats with ariana. a touching, bittersweet moment. all around a pretty good time for goats. 10/10

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban - Chapter Ten: The Marauder’s Map

“Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs,” sighed George, patting the heading of the map. “We owe them so much.”

“Noble men, working tirelessly to help a new generation of lawbreakers,” said Fred solemnly.

“Right,” said George briskly. “Don’t forget to wipe it after you’ve used it —”

“— or anyone can read it,” Fred said warningly.

“Just tap it again and say, ‘Mischief managed!’ And it’ll go blank.”
