Aforementioned blogger and I were recently discussing about giving horses free choices, essentially allowing them free will and a certain agency of their own. However, we discussed it in Dutch and Afrikaans, so everyone must’ve been like ’???’ But the subject matter was interesting enough that we decided I’d also put it up in English, so other people can also weigh in and/or be given a new perspective.
Essentially the discussion started over the fact that I need to learn that Hera can tell me when she can’t do something, and when she can do something despite me thinking she might not due to her injury. This past year, she has learned to politely tell me ‘no’ when I asked her to do something above her ability at that moment, by curling her neck around me and blocking my path, nudging me gently if I kept at it.
IIRC, MLH’s Arab Abba does something similar when she doesn’t want to go for a ride, stopping her owner from saddling her by blocking her with her neck.
I found it quite confusing that a lot of people (generally people that use any training method apart from +R) are REALLY against this. You all know the arguments: 'they just have to listen!’, 'but if there’s an emergency I gotta take action!’, and so on and so forth.
Then I started thinking: what if these people are so nervous about the concept because they think their horse will constantly tell them 'no’? Perhaps they feel, possibly subconsciously, that their horse doesn’t really like the work their owners ask them to do? This thought is disturbing, and I really hope it’s not true..
Or perhaps they fear this because they’ve never seen a horse that has the ability to politely say 'no’? Everyone knows horses that suddenly go completely batshit, whether that’s biting, bucking, rearing, running, or any combination of these. But I’ve never heard stories like Hera and Abba, just a quiet, polite interaction between horse and human.
Maybe these people never learned that such a conversation is even possible, because they’re used only to seeing really big signals - basically when the horse is already WAY over threshold and has no other option but to react violently. Thankfully the tides are turning a little in this respect, but plenty horses are still punished for 'acting out’. Especially when the issue was psychological pressure, instead of a medical problem.
The final option I could think of why people could be against allowing horses (and animals in general) any degree of agency is… Well, basically people being so power hungry that on some level they get off on completely imposing their will on another living being. (*cough*CA*cough*)
So, these are some thoughts on the subject of free will, choice, and agency. Perhaps people would like to weigh in, or provide more examples of interactions as described above. Curious to your thoughts!
i am a shell, shocked and simulated. you are the universe, Her iris melancholic. alone, he might be happiest. along, i might be going, going. here, you’ll always find me. so don’t cry, rather look and see, the sea for a drowning spring coat. and so, we filter out the stimuli, exo-never dawning this. you’re a creep, and so is he. you’re perfect for the Eucharist, the eating of each silent heart; yet, we must not awake Her breath. i won’t do this again, i’ll never swear. you swear to god instead; it makes them think you’ve never lied before. i tell my self She’s special, the only one, because it’s only me, masked and cracked, with inner-quandaries beset. welcome to the gates of She, where we vomit tapped lungs and move to the pulse of death; antipodal, a cross-down field of fog; where the sewed bellows at Hades’ bay reap cacophony, our faux little i’s own ritual back to life.
Hey, it’s me again, subverting your favorite tropes,
So we all know Yuuri Katsuki would be the kind of person who wouldn’t tell you he didn’t like mushrooms and would let you feed him mushrooms three meals a day rather than actually let the words “I don’t like mushrooms” emerge from his mouth
Because Anxiety™ am I right folks
But here we can flip this on its head.
Yuuri loves mushrooms.
Mushrooms are Yuuri’s favorite part of any given dish, which is why he separates them out from the rest usually and eats them last. That’s some excellent fungus right there.
Along comes Viktor Nikiforov, he of the lust-inspiring good looks and astoundingly poor social intuition. He watches the Love of His Life pick the mushrooms meticulously out of his dish and says, “Are you going to eat those?”
Yuuri Katsuki is still in a state of complete and utter stupor at this point, because within the last week two discrete–not discreet, mind you, which they are the opposite of–Russians have arrived uninvited to his fucking house, ingratiated themselves to his family an are currently dismantling the very threads of his existence. One of these Russians is his longtime crush (who is currently occupying most of his time lounging around in a provocative manner all but holding a sign over his crotch that reads Reserved seat for Yuuri Katsuki but Yuuri is a little bit feelings-blind so he’s reading it as Look how beautiful and untouchable I am! If you stare at me too long I will literally scar you like the sun and also I CAN HEAR EVERY THOUGHT ABOUT ME YOU’VE HAD SINCE AGE TWELVE! I’M DISGUSTED!) and the other is the actual inspiration for the My Chemical Romance song Teenagers.
So Yuuri can’t quite be blamed for saying no when Viktor Nikiforov asks him if he’s going to eat his favorite part of the dish.
“I’ll take them, then,” Viktor says, and picks them off his plate.
HOW ROMANTIC, Viktor’s brain screams.
Thus begins Yuuri’s mushroomless existence. Viktor loves Yuuri and wants him to Be Happy Always, and so makes a point to ensure that a mushroom never even so much as winks at his fiance ever again. He doesn’t put them in food and always ensures that, if he’s ordering something for Yuuri, it’s without mushrooms. When a dish shows up with mushrooms in it, Viktor deftly picks them out.
“Excuse me, my husband does not like mushrooms,” Viktor says so often that it could be his catchphrase, or perhaps a nickname. Viktor “My Husband Does Not Like Mushrooms” Nikiforov.
This continues until they return to Hasetsu for a visit and Yuuri’s entire family watches as Viktor picks every mushroom off Yuuri’s plate.
It’s a dish with a lot of mushrooms in it.
“You must really like mushrooms,” Mari says to Viktor.
“Oh, not particularly,” Viktor says, picking away. “But Yuuri hates them, so.”
“Oh no,” Yuuri whispers.
“Um,” says Mari.
“That’s funny!” says Hiroko, smiling and leaning her head on her hand. “Yuuri used to love mushrooms! He stole them while I was chopping them.”
“We’ve been at war in this country for over fifty years. There have been hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of victims. So a lot of people don’t like the work that I do. I manage a reintegration program for ex-combatants. I’m trying to take away the main tool of war– human beings. We can’t punish everyone who fought against us. We can’t jail them all. That will only divide us further. So we must find a way to reconcile with the 60,000 ex-combatants that live among us. We must educate them. We must find them jobs. If we reject and stigmatize them, we will always be at war. Reconciliation is a very hard task. There are a lot of open wounds in this country. People don’t want to forgive. Ex-combatants are often viewed as monsters. My job is to show that their blood is like ours. If we can’t break the idea of ‘good’ and ‘evil,’ we will always be divided. Reconciliation is the only way to change the course of our history.”
How can you say you love one person when there are ten thousand people in the world that you would love more if you ever met them? But you’ll never meet them. All right, so we do the best we can. Granted. But we must still realize that love is just the result of a chance encounter.
I’m sure Sean knows he’s a wonderful inspiration and and the cutest green bean ever, he’s been on the internet and popular for a while. He’s heard it before.
Same goes for Mark. I’m sure he knows we know that he is so damn impressive and smart in everything he does, he’s heard it before.
And surely Felix, by now, knows that his audience is there for a reason, and that he’s got a good head on his shoulders.
Ethan must know that he’s wonderful and can do almost anything at 20, and we support him through that.
I’m sure they’ve been reassured that they’re beautiful, too. Hell we make art of them daily.
But does Tyler know HE was the actively saving my life? Not Mark? That he is a walking miracle of a human in the way he acts, and WE KNOW IT.
Does Robin know that when some of us see a really funny part in a JSE video, a close up or a few pop up things. We think of that funny Swedish dude that we barely see but god we love him. (Additionally hes so impressive? Like??? Antisepticeye is part jack but also a HUGE part Robin go dude)
Does Katherine know, as the resident brown haired woman with glasses in teamiplier that she makes me accept myself as the brown haired girl with glasses because she is so damn beautiful
Does AMY know, that she is so passionate about what she loves and that drives some of us everyday. I want to be like Amy Nelson! And FUCK NO, when I say that I do not mean I want to date Mark. I want to be loving, passionate, and talented. And she’s a fucking good inspiration. (Even though she has a channel, still saying this, because it’s true and it might not have reached her yet)
Does Signé know she makes some of us feel not so alone anymore? That woman dealt with depression and anxiety and still deals with some today. She’s creative, she’s wonderful, she’s beautiful and when I say I want to be like Signe Hansen I don’t mean Sean’s girlfriend because I want to be creative and I want to fight off my depression and I am, with her help. (Even though she has a channel, I’m still saying this)
Gods sake, does MARZIA KNOW she is a sweetheart and smart and talented and not just Felix’s girlfriend because just a little scroll through the comments on her channel saying she’s using him for views makes me sorta insulted. Marzia is loving, and sweet and beautiful and when I say I want to be like Marzia Bisognin I don’t mean Felix’s girlfriend I mean a kind, loving and sweet woman with an impeccable fashion sense.
Do all these people get left slightly behind and never told this, only getting indirect praise because it’s targeted at Mark? Or Sean? Or Ethan? Or Felix?
I want Tyler, Robin, Katherine, Amy, Signe and Marzia to know they’re just as important as their friends/ significant others to some of us. Reblog with your own thoughts on these guys!
Spread the love!
So I’ve always had an interesting thought about this episode
That maybe it could be a metaphor? It didn’t just have to do with the castle literally taking flight for the first time
So in this episode Pidge revealed that she was a girl to the team
This allowed her to accept herself for who she really is, instead of hiding behind someone she’s not. It also must have took a lot of confidence for her to do this, but the fact that she went through with telling them, means she gained a new found confidence, allowing her to take another step forward in her life.
She metaphorically took flight in this way.
Then there’s Keith
So we know that before this episode took place, we had the classic and famous bonding moment
Here Keith had a one on one connection with Lance, something that I’m sure he’s never had with someone before (other than Shiro.) Meaning this moment was very important to him, here he went through an experience with someone that he’s never had.
This must have made Lance special to him in his eyes, his first bond with someone, especially a person he usually doesn’t get a long with. I can only imagine this affected him so much on a personal level, but also on an emotional level too.
When you experience something with someone that you’ve never had before, isn’t it safe to say that this is how you develop feelings for this person? This is only six episodes in, Keith has never had this. This is where his own feelings take flight.
That’s portrayed in the next episode in literally the first scene
Keith acting impatient, wanting Lance to come out is pretty much portraying those feelings. Remember, the bonding moment was very important for him. I can’t even imagine how excited he probably was for Lance to come out so that they could continue this new relationship. Except Keith’s pretty abrasive, so that’s probably why his excitement was portrayed this way.
He wants Lance to come out so that they can start where they left off and grow closer on a personal and emotional level. He feels closer to Lance here, we are literally seeing his feelings for him take off.
(Not to mention the fact that he was the longest to leave the pod when they all left to go look at their clocks, and I think the creators set up that scene on purpose just to portray how close he feels to Lance now, and that he doesn’t want to leave his side.)
If you remember in season two, this is how Keith was acting when Shiro was in the healing pod
He’s calm, he’s composed, he isn’t impatient and he doesn’t seem very worried
This clearly shows the difference in how he feels about them, Lance is able to make Keith act this way because of the events that occurred before and how those new feelings impacted him. He’s already used to Shiro, he knows him, he has no doubt that he’ll heal fast and get better soon. He doesn’t have to worry or be impatient.
He’s still by his side because he’s close to him, but not in the way that he was with Lance.
His feelings are also clearly portrayed in this moment with Lance, after he comes out of the pod
Lance flirts with Allura, everyone says their comments and then at the very end we hear Keith say “Classic.” and other than Allura he isn’t even looking at Lance (he’s also the farthest away from the group). This is a clear as glass portrayal of jealousy, he is jealous that Lance notices Allura and not him, that their bonding moment is clearly not important to him right now.
Then Lance forgets the moment (which I’m sure he didn’t) and Keith does this
This is literally the face of rejection, Lance forgets an important moment between the both of them, a moment where he most likely started developing feelings for him. It’s really no surprise why he would act like this. But I feel like this moment was purposeful too, because it would have been way too early for anything to happen or start between them anyways.
Except, in season two we got a pretty clear indication that Lance most definitely cares about Keith, even if he doesn’t express it around him. So maybe once he stops flirting with Allura and all of those other girls and literally looks at what’s right in front of him, maybe then he’ll finally find what he’s looking for?
This time zone difference has me so confused lol but I guess that’s the good thing because then he can celebrate it again “tomorrow” with us fans on the other side of the world right? ^^ Anyways Happy Birthday to the world’s cutest, fluffiest, and kindest rapper £2 Love you to the moon & back 😘 😘 Please stay healthy & always be happy!! Let’s celebrate again next year!! ♥♥♥
As Namjoon closed the door behind him, he stood by the entrance, snickering to himself. “Her? Liking me? Wahh” he said silently to himself. He wasn’t sure what it was he was feeling now, but he couldn’t stop smiling. “As if I’d like her?” he said again to himself.
“Hyung what are you doing by yourself there?” Jungkook asked curiously.
“Huh? Oh nothing” Namjoon said, flustered.
(One week later)
“Hey guys, Y/N isn’t coming today! Looks like it’s just us tonight” Jin said, filling his voice through the dorm.
“Awh, whyyy” Taehyung asked, coming out of the living room.
“She said she’s sick” Jin said with a frown.
“Let’s go there then! We can bring her food” Taehyung said, excitedly.
“Yah, if she’s sick she should just rest. She can’t be taking care of you guys too” Jin scolded.
Taehyung walked back to the living room with his head held down. He was looking forward to watching the movie you two had discussed a few weeks ago, but it looks like it would have to wait another week.
Namjoon meanwhile, listened to everything silently from the dining table. “That’s weird, she never falls sick…” he said to himself.
“What’s that? Couldn’t hear you” Hoseok said, sitting across from him,
So I’m a tiny 18 y/o girl (my coworkers call me “our little girl”) and I work in this restaurant/bar, and last night (4/15) I was working behind the bar (which means tending to people who sit at the bar and bringing out drinks to the people in the restaurant). Anyway I was working the bar with my best work friend (a delightful 19 y/o gay guy who I’ll call D who has no filter to what comes out of his mouth when talking with me and never fails to compliment me on whatever he notices first, this time it was my braided hair).
So at one point one of the waitresses, J, came up to the bar (the registers are also at the bar, and it’s also where we have to put orders in) and she went on to chat with us for a bit while D made the order she just put through. We were just making small talk, and when D was done I went on the bring the drinks to these three guys, maybe in their early twenties. I was immediately uncomfortable around them, they had that predatory aura around them that some guys have. Anyway they were drinking some pretty heavy stuff, and J had forgotten something so I went back to get it and then one of them said “thanks, sweetheart” and winked. I did not appreciate that, but whatever.
Throughout the night they kept drinking, and both J and I grew more and more uncomfortable around them as they started more and more to make comments on our appearances and stuff. At one point the one that kept calling me “sweetheart” actually tried to feel my biceps after commenting that I must be getting strong arms from carrying all these heavy drinks and stuff. I froze and said something along the lines of “yeah, strong enough to do my work fast” and basically run back to the bar.
It was busy (not unusual for a Saturday, lmao) so I just threw myself back into my work and didn’t think about those guys anymore. Until the next order for their table came through, and J stopped D and me before we went on to make it. Apparently, she had heard them “joking” about how the next time I’d come by they were sure they could feel up my butt. J had given no indication that she had heard them, and when they asked her if she could make sure that “that cute girl” would bring their drinks again she hadn’t replied and just went on her way to us.
Did I mention that I kinda love my coworkers? Anyway in the weekends the owners will come by and sometimes help out when it’s really busy. So one of them was sitting at the bar and overheard J telling this to us and he looked at D and said “D, you wanna go over there and flirt as if (my name)’s life depends on it?” And D just said “fuck yeah” and went on his way. So J had to go on, and I had other orders to make, and the owner was sitting at the bar and watching D and the guys like a hawk and I don’t know what D said, but five minutes later he came back and not too much later I watched the guys leave while the owner told them “not so much fun when it happens to you, is it?”
And that is when I realized I absolutely love my place of work.
Also, please please please don’t prey on helpless servers!!!
The question is not ‘if we argue’ but ‘how do we argue?’ In relationships, romantic and otherwise, we must not see the person as the opponent, but, rather, the problem as the opponent. We must fight together to resolve it - from the same side. We must not hold grudges. And we must stop seeing each other as easily expendable. For life is full of compatible people, but there will be disagreements with all of them. It is in forging the bonds stronger than these disagreements that we find a deeper connection.
So, I just thought to make the list of the cheek symbols of the Queens of Mewni for my next analysis (the significance of these cheek symbols). The first column were the image of the queens, second is their cheek symbols, third is symbolism’s meaning I got from the internet, and fourth is what traits I think you needed to get that symbol in the SVTFOE universe (in short, what the symbol signifies).
SVTFOE Card Suite Symbolism speculation:
Heart - people with this symbol are very lovable and has a distinguishing “charm” that naturally attracts people and come to her side. They prioritize their relationship with others compared to anything else and usually let their heart dictates their action (emotional). They are often found as center of the group
Spade - people with this symbol wields strong and fearsome power, even more powerful than normal and typical queens.
Diamond - people with this symbol have the tendency to take the center of command and shoulder the burden and responsibility by their selves. They dress in jewelry and finery, conducting their selves as befitting of nobility.
Club - people with this symbol have the “common” mindset. They appreciate the values that works for the greater whole of society and hates anything that could destroy the social order they are comfortable and grew up in already.
Color symbolism speculation:
Shades of purple - elegance, nobility, regal
Yellow - bright, lively
Pink - lovely, feminine,
White - harmony, power, everything (as it is combination of all colors of light. That’s why Moon said you must give everything if you want to “dip down”)
Consider this: Jaal wouldn’t rush to have sex with Ryder unprepared. He would talk to Lexi first to make sure he knows everything about how to keep them both safe and give Ryder the most pleasure.
Lexi is well-versed in human physiology, but is still learning about the angara. She would need a consult from an angaran physician who can provide her with all the details on their reproductive system.
This means at some point Lexi must have called an angaran doctor and said, “One of your people wants to bang one of my people. How do we make it happen?”
sometimes asked why I’m so passionate about environmentalism, and my
answer is always pretty straightforward. As a Los Angeles native, clean
air to breathe and water to drink are two things I don’t take for
granted. I’m 17, but I grew up hearing the horror stories
about what the city used to be like: Downtown Los Angeles smothered in a
cloud of smog so toxic that students had to wear masks outdoors and
drink water from wells contaminated with industrial pollution.
still have a long way to go before everyone gets the clean water and
air we deserve. But I’m proud of the progress my city has made. And that
progress didn’t magically happen — it came, in part, because of the
Environmental Protection Agency.
lot of people, and young people in particular, might not know much
about the EPA, so here’s quick history lesson: In 1970, President
Richard Nixon – a Republican — signed into law legislation
that established the EPA. Back then, there was overwhelming support to
protect our environment (and considering just how awful environmental
pollution was back then, it’s easy to see why.) Republicans and
Democrats came together to pass some of the most ambitious environmental legislation ever. The Clean Air Act and Clean Water Act, for example, are just two of the many important laws that EPA enforces to protect human health and the environment.
many people my age might assume it was always like this: that clean air
and water have always been seen as a right, essential for everyone. We
never saw rivers literally on fire,
because they were so full of highly flammable pollution. We never saw
smog so thick it billowed over cities like a fog. That is what the
United States was like when my mom and dad were kids.
the progress EPA is making to clean up our country is common sense. But
you may have heard not everyone in Washington feels the same way. There
are some elected representatives who claim that protecting the
environment must come at the expense of prosperity.
this could not be further from the truth. There are now more Americans
employed in the solar industry than there are in the coal, oil and
natural gas industries combined — and in 41 states plus Washington, D.C., clean jobs outnumber
those in the fossil fuel industry. The clean energy revolution will
continue and its benefits will be felt beyond those who are securing
President Donald Trump is following through on his pledge to reverse
much of the progress made under President Barack Obama. Through
executive orders, the Trump administration has started to dismantle many protections that are designed to cut dangerous emissions from power plants, cars and trucks and the oil and gas sector.
To make matters worse, Trump also proposed to eliminate the
EPA office responsible for coordinating environmental justice programs
in its entirety. Vulnerable communities from Flint, Michigan, to Spartanburg, South Carolina, have much to lose if these unconscionable cuts become reality. Mustafa Ali, who recently resigned as head of EPA’s Environmental Justice office, said it best: that to protect public health and the environment is to “make the American dream a reality for all.”
know many young people question whether they can have an impact on the
direction of our country. Believe me, I understand as well. But I know
that even in these uncertain times, we can rise up and make our voices
heard to our elected leaders. With the March on Science
and the People’s Climate March happening on consecutive Saturdays,
young people around the world are letting us know that they want to be

to get in touch with your elected representatives. Please take a few
minutes to send your senators and representatives a message. Let them

The best thing about it, honestly, is working with Chris again. I first met him in Kenneth Branagh’s house in England in 2009. We were mere children, in the very beginning of our acting journeys. We made an instant connection, and it’s been extraordinary to share the ride with him—this mad journey with Marvel. Anthony Hopkins has been on set this week. And Taika Waititi is magnificent. He has found a way of honoring everything that came before but doing his own thing. And he’s so funny. His films—and if you haven’t, you must seek them out: What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople—they have this combination of light-hearted, good humor and emotion. They’re very moving. Everyone’s really happy.
the question i see most often is “if all of the low-income work is taken by machines, what job can i do? how will i survive?”
this is because we have been trained to only consider our situation within the context of capitalism; it’s almost impossible for most people to consider a world wherein you are not actually required to have a job to survive.
in the near future, over 50% of the american workforce will have their jobs threatened by automation. every single retail worker, every single low-level programmer, every single data entry specialist, every single janitor or sanitation worker, every single bus driver or cab driver. all of them are currently under threat of having their jobs replaced with machines who do them safer, better, faster.
under capitalism, this means that those people will go without jobs, and they will starve, and so naturally, people are scared.
but it is only under capitalism that “you must work to survive” must be a reality.
we can move beyond that; we can create a world where machines do almost all work for us. in a world where most jobs are rendered unnecessary by robots and AI, why should a human work? for what? money? for numbers in a bank account?
existence is not earned; it is a right. you have a right to food, to water, to shelter, to medical care. you have a right to live, regardless of whether you are able to work or not.
The 10th House sits at the very top of our chart and symbolizes our own public image. It is quite common for people to not relate to the sign on the 10th House cusp or the planets that live there. This is because we must grow into the 10th house, it does not come natural to us and it is not unusual for us to detest the qualities of the sign or planets in the 10th House in our younger years. This house shows us how we are perceived in the eye of the public but not so much in our private lives.
Signs in the 10th House ~
Aries in the 10th House: These people tend to appear to be very passionate about everything that they do. They can sometimes seems a little hyper or overexcited but this comes across in a childlike charm. Other people might see them to be quick to anger even if this isn’t the case.
Taurus in the 10th House: They tend to appear very calm and level headed. People see them as patient and caring but are also aware that they aren’t pushovers. They appear strong and durable but can also be seen to be quite stubborn and unyielding.
Gemini in the 10th House: These people may seem to others that they are always “go, go, go” and rarely every slow down! They might seem shallow and “quippy” and unfortunately often have the reputation of a gossip. They seem to be very cunning and mischievous which just adds to their sprite-like charm.
Newt Gingrich went on Hannity Wednesday night to discuss the London attack. The discussion veered into America’s so-called “issues with refugees and migrants,” as host Sean Hannity described them.
Gingrich replied that Americans needed to get over the “mythology” that people from different cultures can coexist peacefully in the same country:
“[Part] of it is when people come here, we need to go back to teaching people how to be American — to assimilating them into an American civilization,” Gingrich said. “We absorb lots of people from lots of places. We can do it again, but part of that requires that we defeat this left-wing mythology that you can be multicultural and still be a single country.”
Gingrich assumes that there is one monolithic “American” culture — implying one centered on white Americans — that all others must conform to in order for the U.S to function properly. He frames the idea of different cultures living in harmony as a “myth” compounded by immigrants unwillingness to assimilate.
Yet it seems not to have occurred to Gingrich that maybe he is the problem, not immigrants. The U.S. has certainly had trouble getting people from different races to coexist peacefully.
But most of that can be attributed to our centuries-long history of white supremacy. Read more (3/23/17 11 AM)
