anonymous asked:

a headcanon where MC has a really popular vlog channel, like she have 6+ million subs and MC has had the channel for 5 years, like her channel is her main job, and the rfa+v+saeran are caught watching her old videos because they wanted to see what she did and how she was back when they didn't know her. In the end they probably become part of her vlogging? Thanks! :D

Thank you for the ask! It’s really specific tho … are you a vlogger yourself? I don’t exactly know what vlogs actually are?? I’m sorry but but college is REALLY stressful for me and I don’t have time for anything. I’m gonna assume that they are targeted towards a specific audience….

Yoosung and the prankster

- Your vlogs are what shitposts would look like in video

- Always making funny comments, jokes, meme references and pranks

-You do these small skits too

-Yoosung had already seen some of your videos

-So when he first met you, he had a nagging feeling he had seen you somewhere before

-When he knew that vlogging was your profession, he just had to check it out

-He always knew you were very smart and funny but those videos were just amazing. He couldn’t believe how you wrote and acted those things out yourself

- His girlfriend was amazing, beautiful, smart and…. cue shot of you with a pencil stuck up your nose SO DAMN RIDICULOUS

- He laughed so hard he had to clutch his sides and strain to just breathe

-That;s when you walked in

- “Yoosung…. WHAT THE HECK,” you shouted. Isn;t that the correct response when your boyfriend is just rolling on the floor, laughing maniacally with tears streaming down his face?

- “MC! MC!” he said struggling to hold his breath, “Why didn’t you show these to me before!! You’re so talented and funny.” He waked over to you and kissed you on the lips.

- “You bet… I didn;t get all those subscribers for nothing,” you grin

- So you two ended up getting drunk and watching your videos all night.

- And ya’all had a deadly hangover the morning after

- But you were determined to make him appear in one of your videos.

- He did occasionally appear. Yoosung was adorable a nervous wreck  in those videos and so people started requesting videos with him

- Besides it was so much fun showing off your cute boyfriend

Zen and the reviewer

- So you were the reviewer

- So smart, sophisticated and clever

- Always reviewing movies, books and sometimes even anime we are all only human, right?

- You were really clever, detail oriented and organised.

- You first did this as a hobby but since it really took off, you decided to make this your main job

- When you got home one day, you saw zen intently watching something on the laptop

- He was so engrossed in it that he didnt even seeing you coming

- “Sweetie, what are you doing ?” you asked

- “Gosh! Babe, you scared me!” he said as he clutched his chest. Drama Queen much?

 - You learnt that he was actually watching your videos the entire evening

- “WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME BABE??” he asked, “You’re so good at this!! And you have so many subscribers!!”

- “I’m not as popular as you!!” you protested as you sat next to him. He kissed your cheek.

- He whined a little and proceeded to click the next video

- “My boyfriend Zen;s new movie is amazing,” you proclaimed in the video, “You guys should check it out. He’s such talented actor….”

- You proceeded to praise Zen in the video. Something you dare not do to his face. You;re a real tsundere… I’ll give you that

- “I mean…. you were pretty good in the movie Zen…” you gave him a little fake laugh. God… that was so embarrassing

- “ Babe…” zen said as he flung the laptop.

- Before you could protest, he cupped your face in his hands and kissed you wildly.

- His hands slid under your shirt. “Why don’t we take this to the bedroom?” you suggested. He smirked.

- The beast was unleashed.

- So the first video you did with zen was such a hit! Your subscriber count went up!! And you had so many requests!! A lot of people started watching Zen’s movies too. The two of you really had such a positive impact on each others career and life

Jaehee and the coplayer

- You were a cosplayer

- Not unlike Jaehee, you were such a big fangirl too

- You cosplayed everything from anime, manga, video games to comic books

- You’ve never ever missed a convention

- Jaehee being the loving and caring wife that she is, was always the first person to watch your videos and anonymously comment good things about it and anonymously take down the bullies too

- She enjoyed watching you stitch, wear your perfect makeup and just transform yourself.

- Sometimes, when you’re in cosplay, she can barely recognise you but she never admits it

- Jaehee helped you make the vidoes. But it never struck you to make her a part of it

- But one day you had this really good idea!

-There was this really big convention coming up and what better way to introduce her to your friends???

- “Sailor Uranus and Neptune!” you proclaimed, “That’s what we should go as!”

- “I’m sorry but WE??” Jaehee dropped the cup she was holding.

- “Yes! Jaehee my darling” you did a dramatic twirl, “You must accompany me!”

- It took a lot of coaxing but she finally agreed

- And boy did you transform her

- She couldn’t believe she looked like that.

- You always caught her catching glimpses at herself in the mirror

- By God, she was cute.

- “Thank you, MC,” she smiled as she kissed you really softly on your lips.

- Your beast= unleashed.

- All throughout the convention, you took videos of your wife.

- Jaehee never knew about this

–When you finally posted the video, it was such a hit!!!  People were going crazy over you and your wife! They requested a lot of videos with her.

-When Jaehee came to know about this, she blushed beet red.

- “Mc!! Stop embarrassing me like this,” she cried as she covered her face.

- Now you can finally unleash that beast in peace

Jumin and the musician

- Jumin Han is a sophisticated man

- And you;re such a sophisticated girl

- You play the violin, the piano, the flute….. name any instrument and you could play it

-You wanted to work for an orchestra but since your channel took off, you decided to make vlogging your main job

- Why not? YOu really enjoyed the freedom

- You would play anything you wanted. From complicated classical pieces to the openings of really cheesy tv shows

-You would always play something for jumin

- He preferred listen to you live than over the internet

- He really loved how your fingers moved and just how focused you were

- To him, just to see you and listen to your music was such a stress buster

- One day when Jumin found free time, he decided to check out your channel in his office

- He literally hit himself for not having seen your videos before.

- You were just as wonderful on the computer

- When you came over to give him his lunch, you were in for a shock

- Jumin was listening to an original piece by you while a drop of tear streamed down his face. He wiped it off immediately when he saw you

- “Are you one of those single tear people,” you laughed and walked over to him. Whiplash reference  which jumin did not understand T_T

- “Mc…” said as he literally pounced over you. He started to kiss your neck and tried to undo your zipper.

- “Woah wait, Mr. Han! What is this about?”

- “I’m sorry Ive never seen your videos before,” he said, “You are so amazingly talented MC.”

- “If you want to make it up to me Jumin… then I know just the thing.”

- Needless to say, the great Jumin Han had to clear his schedule so that he could appear in one of your videos

- And of course your comments section was filled with different variants of “ MC ARE YOU DATING THE JUMIN HAN?”

Seven and the makeup guru

- You are the Queen. bows down to you

- Your makeup is always on point. Please teach me how to do eyebrows Y_Y

- You started doing these makeup tutorials in college

- You got really popular and thought… heck why not get paid for this

- Seven is obsessed with your videos. BOI HAS SEEN ALL OF IT

- The both of you literally stay home most of the time

- Seven loves watching you do makeup

- He gives this really cute commentary when you do it

- “AND SHE SCORES” he’d scream when youre done

- He;s actually really fashionable himself

- “ MC I think you should go with ruby woo for this”

- “Shaddup seven”

- And whenever someone makes fun of you in the comments, he has no mercy.

- YOu never knew about this. But you were pretty suspicious cause the amount of hate went down? Boi never deleted all of it, he was clever like that

- You did the ‘entire face with kids makeup challenge’ on him… while he was asleep

- He never forgave you for that….. secretly he loved it

- He tries on your makeup when you’re not there

V and the food and culture blogger

- You love travelling

-And you have this really wholesome food and culture vlog

- After all that mint eye mess, he’s not dead I promise Y_Y you guys decided to travel the world

- Your vlog was restricted to your country and ever since the world tour the subscriber count went up

- You would do these vlogs where you’d describe the scenery to V

- It was so tastefully worded

- You guys visited usual places, interacted with the most interesting people and the food…. by God it was good

- And V, being the romantic that he is, would say something once in a while that absolutely floored you

- “GOD! V, The scenery is so beautiful”

- “Is it as beautiful as you?” he’d ask as he kissed your forehead

- All in all, it became fluff overload

- V became your permanent partner in this

- You guys had so much fun doing this that it did not really feel like a job

Saeran and the gamer

- You’d do gaming vlogs….. I’ve never seen one in my entire life… and Ive only heard of pewdiepie so no hate pls

- Saeran doesnt play games…… except in the bedroom of course

- He doesnt get why you’re so obsessed

- But he still obsessively watches all your videos…. he’s a complicated boi

- He always reads ALL the comments

- Let’s just say that he’s ruined some lives

- You’ve never gotten a negative comment after he came into your life??

- You asked Saeran to stop but he’s always feigned ignorance

- You know Saeran watches your videos but he pretends he does not

- He always gives that tiny little cute smile when he watches your videos…. and you know this cause you’re a stalker like that

- Always says stupid things like “MC, I wonder what those fingers can do??”

- Aaaand you smack him on the head for it

I'd Love to See You Out of That Cosplay

Alright so I wrote this as a reblog for this post by @lotidge and I kinda wanted to post it so:

Lotidge+Comic-Con Shenanigans

“Yo, Lotor! Come on! Group picture!” Princess Leia called across the room, as a Supergirl and Batgirl fixed each other’s hair, and Ryuko Matoi spun shimmering, four feet blades around her head.

“Was it not enough that you practically forced me through slave labor to make all of your costumes?” A voice ground out from the bathroom.

“Babe, you practically begged us to get you an extra ticket. What gives?” Leia said softly, walking over to the closed door. “Is something wrong?”

“No, Ezor.” A sigh came from the other side. “It’s just-,”

The door sprang open, and there stood-

Legolas Greenleaf.

“I didn’t expect myself to look so fabulous.” The elf purred, and Princess Leia’s eyeballs popped out.

“Oh my god.”

“I know, right!” Lotor said proudly. “Even the wig is perfect!”

Ezor wiped away a nonexistent tear. “My child has grown up.”

Lotor straightened. “Oh, shove off.” He moved, and embraced her.

“You-you just look so awesome, and-oh, I’m just-,” She blubbered. “Dammit, you’re making me mess up my makeup.”

“What’s all the fuss about?” Someone called, and Supergirl strode into the room. “We need to-oh, Lotor.”

Suddenly, he was embraced with a second pair of arms.
“You look awesome.”

“Axca, come on, it’s just a wig and stuff-,”

“No, honey, you look great.” His friend smiled tearily. “I’m so glad you joined us.”

“Come on!” Ryuko Matoi hollered from the next room. “Let’s get going!”

2017′s Altea Comic-Con was-

People were dressed as characters from anything you could think of-Lotor saw a Prince Zuko, an Aslan, and a Data all doing the Charlie’s Angels pose, an Aquaman drinking a slurpee, and a cyborg doing one-handed push-ups to a group of Naruto cosplayers’ amazement.

“Isn’t it awesome?” Ezor squealed. “Oh, wait, shit, there’s the Harley Quinn from last time!” She pointed to a girl with a baseball bat over her shoulder. “I’m gonna go say hi!”

Axca sighed. “I’ll keep an eye on her.”

Lotor waved, and caught sight of Narti, in her Batgirl costume, and Zethrid, with her blades over her shoulder, walking off. “Where are you going?” He called.
“The cast of Arrow is here!” Zethrid called back. “Be right back, just wanna see for a sec!”

And Lotor was alone.

He wandered the halls of the convention center, taking the occasional photo, getting signatures, when suddenly-

He saw an axe and a head of bushy brown hair.

He squinted.

It couldn’t be-

He suddenly broke into a run, and the head of brown hair started. They could see him.

And they started running too.

Throughout the convention center, Lotor sprinted after the Gimli cosplayer, readying his phone in his hand. “Wait!” He yelled.

They ran faster.

Suddenly, they turned a corner, and Lotor smashed into someone from behind.
They both fell on the floor, and Lotor groaned, his vision going cross-eyed.

“Stay back!” He heard. “I-I have pepper spray!”

It was a girl’s voice, and it was trembling.

“No, I don’t want to hurt you-,” He started to say, and suddenly heard the click of the sprayer and screamed.

“So, where’d you two even meet?” Matt Holt said cheerfully. “I’ve heard so many stories, but none of them can be true.” He chuckled a bit.

Katie flushed. “Um…..,”

“A bar.” Lotor said suddenly. “We-um, met at a bar.”

Matt nodded. “Interesting. Well, Lotor, was it love at first sight for this little gremlin?” He socked his sister in the arm.

“Yeah.” Lotor said, grinning at the glare on Katie’s face.

Hope you enjoyed! (@lotidge hope this is okay) (not beta-read yet)

GenCon: DAY 1

Ok…I’ll do a whole recap later but just to confuse you:

We arrived, were really overwhelmed by all the things, but found artist’s alley an my people. Picked up my Matt Mercer book from green ronin, browsed art, talked to a beholder, went to the first panel, sat in the front (after desperately trying to find @gatherthewords with all of our stuff strewn about the floor), got into the row one behind the first row for the gm improv show with Matt and Satine (who looked fab) Laughed at the ridiculousness of the game, had an intense stare-down with Matt mid-game, drew him stroking a minotaur’s chest, gave it to him, went out and hung out with some awesome peeps like my dm and her peeps, went to the other Matt panel with two of the D&D design heads for 5e, met SO MANY AMAZING CRITTERS THERE!! Saw Matt again, literally sitting right in front of him (I was obsessive about it don’t judge me.) We made a Matt cosplayer blush by having Matt call her out, and then got emotional about the panel. I took a Critter back with me named Steve (Steve is a strong Australian man who twirls people around when we discover we are both Vastronauts)  and we all plead D&D together where I played a Dragon and I was so happy and I’m so overwhelmed.

Look out for pictures when I get a moment to myself and a Kima and Allura walking around tomorrow

Alex Hirsch in Russia, day one, 16th of April

Today at Bigfest Alex on stage talked a lot about the show and shared some new facts (on Bill and Ford and AXOLTL!!!!) with us
Everything in quotes is an actual quote!

(here, have a pic of Alex and awesome Stans, took it while waiting for my turn)

He started by saying he’s suprised and glad the show is so popular here, and people were just cheering on him like crazy, it was very impressive.

Then he asked the crowd, what episode they wanted to know more about and decided to talk about Sock Opera.

Originally Bill wasn’t in it, but since he and the crew figured, that “kids must be missing Bill”, they came up with “making a deal plot”. Then they had to decide “why on earth” would Dipper shake hands with “basically devil in a triangular shape

So there was a plot, where Dipper and Bill become friends. Bill pulls Dipper out of his body and they are flying around the city together pulling pranks on people (?like taking their pants off – not sure about this part lol?) That was too unbelievable though, and got discarded, because Dipper wouldn’t do something like this.

Then Alex talked a bit about his voice-acting and did an impression of Bill and “reality is an illusion” catchphrase. The crowd went nuts, and he pretended to be scared and asked “B-bill?”. And then answered himself in Bill’s voice “I AM HERE!”. And Alex started looking around again like Bill was actually there on stage too, it was so amazing!

About the Journal

Alex was like, okay, one of the main questions to be answered – where was Ford all this time?

Harry Potter and the Adult Appropriation

The other day I was with my daughter in a restaurant near King’s Cross. The Asian family sitting next to us had clearly been to the Harry Potter store: the little boy (who was no older than seven) had a stuffed Hedwig under one arm, a copy of HARRY POTTER AND THE CHAMBER OF SECRETS under the other and a wand in his hand, and babbled happily (and adorably) throughout the meal about Patronuses, Horcruxes, Hogwarts houses and all manner of Harry Potter lore.

It struck me then how long it has been since I heard a child talk about Harry Potter. Over the last ten years or so, nearly all the conversations I’ve had on the subject have been with adults – many of them fans, many of them passionate. Books, films, a mountain of merchandise; a play – not to mention Pottermore, with all its recent controversies - and eighteen years after its birth, the Harry Potter phenomenon shows no sign of abating.

But where have all the children gone? Where is their place in Potter’s world?

I remember reading my early copy of HARRY POTTER AND THE PHILOSOPHER’S STONE to my daughter when she was six. She loved it –even writing a fan letter to J.K. Rowling, to which she received a charming, handwritten reply, which she still treasures.

Later, when I promised her the audiobook of the new Harry Potter for Christmas, and found, too late, that it wouldn’t be available until the following spring, I recorded the whole thing myself onto cassette tapes – a labour of love that took me over fifty hours’ recording time, but which turned out to be worth every minute.

I remember her reaction, aged seven, to the casting of the first Harry Potter movie. Having followed the story with immense interest, when Daniel Radcliffe’s casting was finally announced, she ran into her bedroom and burst into tears. When I asked her why, she said; “Because I wanted to be Harry.” When I pointed out that Harry really had to be a boy, she sniffed and said: “That’s just sexist.”

When she was nine, I remember getting her a day pass onto the set of the second movie (a birthday treat, wangled, with some difficulty, from one of my film contacts). We met Daniel Radcliffe (I’ve never seen my child so wide-eyed and star-struck) and Jason Isaacs (that was my turn to go weak at the knees), and although I wasn’t supposed to take any photographs of the set, I do have a single picture of Anouchka, on the Night Bus: long plaits and dungarees, and an expression of sheer delight.

Later, we went to first screening, a week before the première: the audience was almost entirely made up of happy, excited children.

Since then, over the years, I’ve watched the rise and rise of J.K. Rowling’s boy hero with great admiration. Never before has a children’s book attracted such a following.  The Harry Potter books, with their clever marketing (a “serious” jacket for older readers, a brightly-coloured one for children) transcended genre and challenged the boundaries between “adult” and “children’s” fiction. For the first time, many adults felt they had been given permission to enjoy reading children’s books; and children, after years of schools imposing worthy and improving (but often quite dull) reading lists, had something of their own, that was definitely not on the curriculum.

The benefits to literacy were immense. Boys have always lagged behind girls where reading fiction was concerned: but with Harry Potter, boys too were reading and enjoying books. Adults, too, experienced the benefit. I’ve written extensively about this elsewhere, and I’ve been outspoken in supporting the right of adults to read and enjoy fiction intended for children. The same “Get a life”-ers who are now deriding the adult players of Pokémon Go were vocal about Harry Potter: they sneered at grown adults getting excited at the adventures of a boy wizard; they sneered at the cosplayers and the fanfic writers and the people who stayed up till midnight to buy the new books as soon as they came out. But the fans didn’t care. They kept going. Not just children, but adults deserved to enjoy the world of Potter.

To a certain extent, J.K. Rowling became a victim of her own success. The woman who had once sent handwritten notes to her young admirers soon found that she was being mobbed everywhere she went. It was alarming; especially when it became clear that in such crowds, the children were often being pushed aside by adults who wanted to get close to her. She almost stopped appearing in public altogether, except on occasions when she could ensure an audience of children.

The films expanded the fan base. Merchandising grew out of control. At first J.K. Rowling tried to curate the Harry Potter merchandising, but with hundreds of new designs and products being suggested daily, it became impossible. Online, the forums went crazy. Cosplay went crazy. Reading groups went crazy. Fanfic abounded. It was amazing; magical, but it must have been a little frightening, too. Like Disney’s Sorcerer’s Apprentice, J.K. Rowling had started something no-one could stop, not even the magician herself.

But where were the children among all this? Where were the children’s voices?  Little boys like the one at King’s Cross? Little girls like my daughter?

Nowadays, the shop in King’s Cross is mostly filled with adults. The people queuing up to be photographed at Platform 9 ¾ are almost always adults. My daughter (still a Potter fan) currently happens to be a spot operator at the Palace Theatre, where THE CURSED CHILD is opening. There too, the audiences consist overwhelmingly of adults; many of them Americans; many of them having flown over expressly for the performance. And the online presence – articles, reviews, controversies, fanfic archives, discussion groups – is also, overwhelmingly adult.

Following the controversy over THE HISTORY OF MAGIC IN NORTH AMERICA, the term “cultural appropriation” has been much used.

Wikipedia defines the term like this:

“The… adoption of …. cultural elements in a colonial manner: elements are copied from a minority culture by members of the dominant culture, and these elements are used outside of their original cultural context—sometimes even against the expressed, stated wishes of representatives of the originating culture.”

And yes: I can totally sympathize with those affected. A story, or series of stories, originally belonging to one group of people, has been appropriated and used to promote the agenda of another group of people, thereby taking power from the first group and giving it to the second. It has happened before: many times. In every case, the source material has mostly been lost, corrupted, and even outright claimed by those appropriating it.

Norse myths were appropriated by Christian scholars in the 12th century, and re-interpreted with a Christian agenda. The Victorians bowdlerized Greek and Roman myths to remove all mention of “immoral” sexual practices, and rewrote them to suit their own culture. The Arabian Nights were traditional stories appropriated from sources in the Middle East, and given an increasingly European slant.Grimm’s and Perrault’s and Andersen’s fairy tales were all appropriated from ancient sources - and often given a moralistic, patriarchal bias.

Ironically, these fairy tales were originally meant for adults. Only recently have these tales been thought of as stories for children. And now, we have come full circle: adults, without meaning to, have somehow appropriated one of the most successful children’s stories ever written, and, with the best of intentions, are making it all about them. Their ideas; their fandom; their agendas; their concerns.

Which isn’t to say that we, as adults, don’t have the right to these books, or to the ideas within them. But we don’t own them. We have to remember that. Ours is not an exclusive right. These stories were not meant for us, even though a story can – and should – be read by anyone who wants to. But not at the expense of the children for whom they were written; the children who were elbowed out of the way by adult fans in 2013 when the Hogwarts Express set off from King’s Cross; the children who were unable to pay the enormous ticket prices for a handful of author readings, held in sports stadiums and concert halls instead of bookshops and libraries.

I’m not saying adults should feel bad about loving Harry Potter. Nor am I saying that anyone should give up the books they loved as a child. They will be with you forever. That’s the magic of reading. But adulthood is a privilege that comes with responsibilities. Adults are a dominant group. Children are the minority. When I was a child, there was very little contemporary literature expressly written for children. Harry Potter changed all that. It gave power to a generation. The power to choose what they wanted to read; the power to own their story. To take that power away from them  - to the benefit of the dominant group - seems like another kind of appropriation.

So, adults, please: enjoy the show. Enjoy the books; write the fanfic; cosplay your favourite characters. Share fan theories; write blog posts; argue to your heart’s content: after all, that’s what stories are for.

But don’t forget; you’re visitors in the world of Hogwarts. And if, while you’re there, you find yourself standing in the way of a child, step aside. If you ever find yourself silencing children’s voices, shut up. Remember this: it’s still their world. Without them, it wouldn’t exist at all.

Annnnd anime expo is over! Rey got my last Rey print!! I was so happy hehe. Again, I wanna thank everyone who came by! I met so many people who talked to me about art and series’s that we both liked, the feels we had. It was really fun, heartening experience despite how crazy AX was. People came by with food (bless), and overall it was a really great experience. I’m super tired now though! For everyone who couldn’t make it, I’ll prolly be putting some of the stuff up for sale online soon! The eren/Levi zine will be up on my tictail once I sleep for 3 days…. x__x Have a very happy 4th of July, guys! And I hope you’re all happy with your prints! ^_^

i can’t believe homestuck is finally over!!! holy shit!! gosh it feels so so so strange to be able to say that for real… homestuck is over… homestuck is over. homestuck has ended. there was a time where i had begun to think i’d never see the day, and yet some part of me had secretly hoped i’d never have to. but all things must come to an end eventually. even homestuck.

and what can i say other than what a literally fucking life changing journey this has been.

i first got on board with homestuck in late 2009, a few months or so after it had begun. a good internet friend of mine, holly, had been reading it for a while and was desperate for people to talk about it with, so she started pestering me about it. i finally threw caution to the wind and jumped in when she showed me pics of WV and can town like “look at this amazing shit you’re missing out on”. she was right. i did look at this amazing shit i was missing out on and thought, “holy shit, this is some amazing shit im missing out on”. by the time i caught up, act 2 had only just ended, with only a small handful of pages of act 3 available. WV: Ascend is still one of my personal favourite [S] pages to this day. not only was it virtually the last thing i got to see before catching up and having to start waiting for upd8s, but its also the first time HS really pulls back the curtain and gives you a real glimpse of the true scale of this story thats only just beginning to unfold. it really sets the tone and makes you feel like you’re getting into something truly epic.

and SHIT boy, it just started getting better and better from there!! i even ended up managing to drag my sister into it as well, because just talking to one friend online about it wasnt cutting it anymore!! this shit was so good, and i needed more ppl to yell at. and well, to be perfectly honest, i really didnt have very many friends back then, in real life OR online. but ive always been really close w/ me sis so of course i was gonna drag her along for the ride.

like a year and a half later, in april 2011, my sis and i were going to attend our first con together, brisbane supanova. homestuck was right in the thick of act 5.2 by this point, and we were both HELLS of into it, so we were wondering if we’d see any homestuck cosplays there. we kinda doubted it tho, homestuck still felt like this weirdly niche internet thing back then, and on top of that we lived in australia, where basically nothing cool ever happens. yet to our surprise we did end up seeing a few homestucks about. not many, but a few. enough to be REALLY EXCITED ABOUT IT. there was even a john wearing the wise guy slime suit and they had a fear no anvil hammer!! and at one point we were even standing in line for food and we happened to see a really good Dave cosplay walk by, with a SORD and everything!! without a second thought, or even a first, we both ran straight out of the line to chase him down and get a photo. it wasnt until after the encounter that we realised… fuck… we lost our place in the queue lmao. it was worth it tho. totally worth it.

later on that very same day, i was waiting outside the bathrooms for my sis, and out of the ladies room came this adorable karkat cosplayer. i didnt talk to them, tho, and then my sis came out right after and i pointed like “look!! karkat!!” and she told me that yes, she already saw her in the bathroom, and even got a photo. lmao.

our first ever con was a lot of fun, the highlights definitely being the handful of homestucks we happened to see. i wasnt really even expecting to see one, let alone a handful… and apparently, neither were they!! after supanova weekend, i was checking out the MSPA forums (rip) and i stumbled upon a new thread somebody had made saying they were an aussie homestuck fan, brisbane local, and that they were surprised and excited to have seen a few homestucks at the supanova they just attended over the weekend, and wanted to know if there were anymore brisbane local homestucks lurking the MSPA board and if they wanted to organize some kinda fan meetup in the city sometime. enough excited responses started popping up and eventually the plans were settled.

i was definitely interested in going, tho i was really nervous about it. im a pretty shy person in general, and these were a bunch of complete strangers, not to mention that brisbane is like an hour train ride from where i live, and is also a city i was not familiar with. and i was gonna have to go all by myself, because sis was busy that weekend. i almost didnt go because it sounded so daunting, but i ultimately decided to bite the bullet and take the plunge because HOMESTUCK!!!

the plan was to meet by the wheel of brisbane, which was. easy enough to find, even for someone stupid like me who didnt know the city. the main thing i was worried about was actually finding the people because i didnt know what any of them looked like. we were all strangers!! luckily some of them had homestuck shirts so once i spotted a conspicuous crowd of Nerds standing around with a couple of HS shirts i was like. welp. there they are. my people. i swallowed my nervousness and went over and said hi.

it was a good day. no, a GREAT day!! there were about 12 of us at the meetup, and after introductions, breaking the ice was pretty easy since we all had the common interest of homestuck to spend literally all day as a group discussing and laughing about as we wandered the city. we even took a photo together of us all laying all sprawled out on a set of steps into the botanic gardens like we were all pieces of shit who failed to heed our bros warning of stairs. they told us, dog.

at one point we attempted to cross the road at a stoplight but half the group got stuck on the other side of the road. “haha, we’re roadstuck” somebody said. i dont remember who it was, but that became The Big Meme of the day, and went on to become the name of the facebook group that was set up later that night for us to all keep in touch and arrange future meetups and hangouts. over the following months, we met up more and more, word started spreading, and little by little more local brisbane homestucks began to hear about us and our group began to grow and grow.

it was amazing. i was having the time of my life. in such a short amount of time i had gone from having almost no irl friends, to having almost more friends than i knew what to do with!!! homestuck had helped brighten my life in ways i never expected. heck, i even ended up finding my first ever girlfriend through roadstuck. remember that karkat cosplayer i mentioned we saw at our first supanova?? that was her!! of course we didnt realize that until quite a bit later. she didnt make it to the first couple meetups, and once she did we didnt recognize her as the karkat either. it wasnt until she one day mentioned she cosplayed karkat once and showed us a pic that we put it together!! how… serendipitous!! ((btw we arent together that way anymore, not for a long time now, for reasons that are really neither here nor there, but we are still BEST FRIENDS FOREVER to this day, which is even better if u ask me!!))

during the heyday of roadstuck, we used to have huge group chats on facebook basically all the time, every night. with so many of us in the group, these were a blast, and it was always active at almost all hours of the day. there were enough of us that there was always SOMEONE online. oh, i should mention!! one particularly fateful night in the roadstuck group chat is where my nickname seab first came about!! typos of our names became quite a meme in the group, and a number of my friends still go by these nicknames today!!

ohh, lets not forget one of the most iconic moments in homestuck history. one that happened in late 2011. the night that the end of act 5 was released, aka the day homestuck destroyed the internet. [S] Cascade!!! what a night that was!! ahh!! it was my birthday too!! my birthday is 10/25, one of the homestuck magic numbers. getting to finally sit down together with my sister, and watch this 13 minute epic, on my bithday, after months of anticipation, during the very height of our homestuck craze, screaming and giggling together as we flipped our shit over stuff like the screen starting to get bigger as jack was charging the red miles, and the kids going god tier, and then logging onto facebook to scream about it all night with the roadstuck crew… it was truly special, and remains one of my most treasured birthday memories to this day.

it was also around this time in late 2011 that i started to get into using tumblr!! i had already made a blog earlier in the year, but i only made a single pointless post and then abandoned it forever. but once a bunch of ppl in the roadstuck gang started getting way into it, i decided to get in on the fun too. i didnt really know much about what the point of tumblr was for a while but it was pretty fun using it as another social platform for fun times w/ the pals. it also ended up being a pretty good place to start sharing my silly homestuck videos i had been making occasionally in my spare time!!

speaking of, remember my [S] ancestors: whats going on video i made in march 2012?? lmao!! that really shot me into The Big Time and got me my first really huge influx of followers on here. some people started calling me a BNF (“big name fan”) for a little while!! can you believe that video has almost a MILLION views now?? i sure cant!! thats still so crazy to me!! one time, at another supanova, a friend introduced me to their friend as “the person who made the ancestors whats going on video” and their friend was really ecstatic like OMG NO WAY. that was a surreal experience, having someone who didnt even know me excited by my presence, as if i was someone of legitimate importance, and not just some silly kid who cries a lot and has too much time on their hands.

anyway, roadstuck, as it was, doesnt exist anymore, because… of reasons… but the friends i made still do, and thats what counts, because it turns out the real homestuck was the friends i made along the way, and im thankful for them all each and everyday.

in fact it was through meeting so many different kinds of people during our time in roadstuck, and the stuff i started to read about as i spent more and more time on tumblr, that i first started to learn about trans people and gender and sexuality and all that stuff, which really opened my eyes to the world and helped me begin to understand things about myself i had struggled with for years without realizing!! who knows if i ever would have learned about all this stuff if i never got into homestuck???

it is honestly no joke when i say homestuck literally changed my life. all the friends ive made these past 6 and a half years, my identity and sense of self, my entire livelihood, everything i care about, its all thanks to homestuck, and i genuinely have no idea where i would be, who i would be, or what my life would be like today if it werent for this silly webcomic. i owe literally everything i am today to it and i can’t thank andrew hussie enough for what the past 6 and a half years has meant to me.

the end of homestuck is not just the end of a long-running webcomic 7 years in the making, but the end of a huge, incredibly important chapter of my life, and sitting down with my sister one final time to watch [S] Act 7, and say farewell to all these characters, some of my most favourite fictional characters ever, who have been with me every step of the way all these years, and getting to see them all finally be safe, happy, and living their lives together freely and peacefully after everything they’ve been through… just… its indescribably moving and im beside myself with emotions.

thank you, homestuck. thank you all the artists and musicians for all your hard work taking me on this incredible journey. thank you my dear friend holly, for pestering me into reading it in the first place all those years ago.

thank you, andrew hussie. thank you for my life

you’re literally my hero, and i just started crying as i was typing this sentence so i think it’s time to wrap this up before my tears start making it too hard to type. bye homestuck!!! im gonna miss you so much!! keeping up with the updates and discussing theories and meeting new friends and learning new things about myself has been some of the most fun ive ever had in my life!! ill never forget you homestuck!! BYYYEE!! WAHHH!!!

lancemclaen  asked:

Hi Sarah! :) I just recently picked up your Lynburn Legacy series (Can't wait for Unmade!) and found your short story (it seems quite long to be called a short story but I'll call it that anyway) The Turn of the Story (which I absolutely LOVE and I also want to say that I think your writing style is amazing), I don't know if this is been asked before but I'll ask it anyway. Will Luke and Serene (and perhaps Dale) ever go to the other side to see how and where Elliot used to live?

I am so happy you’re reading the Lynburn Legacy (I hope Unmade won’t let you down!) and the Turn of the Story too. I am extra happy you are enjoying it. ;) The Turn of the Story is, I now admit, novel length even if it isn’t novel shaped. I have a terrible problem and I thank you all for your patience. ;)

So a few people have actually asked me this, and I thought maybe it was time to answer it? Because I do not wish to lead them on with false hopes! Though I warn you about spoilers after this line!

Tragically my own magic system (invented to explain why mermaids are not right now drowning tourists in the Thames) has foxed me here: Only certain people can cross the Border into what Elliot calls ‘the real world where stuff made sense and phones did not explode,’ and most of those people are human (though not all humans can do it) and so I’ve been pretty cagey about which people from the Borderlands can and can’t cross.

However, Dale (for instance) probably could cross the Border, and that is something I might’ve tried to write for you all, since I saw many of you wished for Border crossin’! But I had already written the sequel short story, and that makes it clear such a thing hasn’t happened. (The sequel, published in Monstrous Affections in September, made some things unchangeable! Which is a little bit of a shame, since some of the fun of writing a series of books or a serial (short or… very long) story is seeing reader response, and adjusting for it sometimes—since readers are smart and I like to give them what they want, so long as it wouldn’t mess up my story.

So apologies there. ;) And apologies for anybody who figured Luke or Serene would be hilarious confronted with cars, toasters, or people assuming they were bikers/cosplayers/cosplaying bikers. You are right and they would be.

But why did I originally write it all the way I did, like a dumdum? (Ah, the constant lament of writers to themselves. ;))

Magic is something I like to write about a lot (no really Sarah! the populace cries. We never noticed.) The kind of magic I like is that which seems real to me, which like most things, can’t solve your problems. It gives you more and different problems instead.

But magic, like some difficult but wonderful things in real life, maybe can change you until you are in a position to solve your own problems.

Elliot in the story agrees to stay in the Borderlands not only because he has a crush on his new friend (as all fantasy fans know, elves can get it!) but explicitly because it reminds him of something in a book: Narnia, Tortall, Ingary, Earthsea. Reading a book, magic looks like an escape. Actually being part of a magic story means things are more complicated than that, which is something I wanted to examine with the premise.

I think people have also asked because they see Elliot is in pain, and they want him to be helped and saved, which is super lovely of them, and I so appreciate them caring about my wee redheaded Eeyore stand-in. ;)

But even if the other characters met Elliot’s dad they can’t beat Elliot’s dad up (well they could… but it would be shocking behaviour!) and they can’t make him love his son, either. Elliot’s dad would probably just say ‘What is up with that girl’s ears’ and trail sadly out of the room.

The characters of the Turn of the Story are all very influenced and affected by their families, and have very different and very complicated relationships with them (Elliot’s father would not put him in mortal danger, for instance, and Luke and Serene’s more loving families do) and they are all trying to hide it, which is why Elliot designedly never ever talks about his home life except to lie, and Serene’s cousin is the one who provokes her about her mother since nobody else would know to do so. They’re shaped by their families and that’s what they all need to be saved from, in a slow subtle process.

I write about difficult family situations using the same principles as I use regarding magic, and many other experiences—only you can save yourself (though sometimes even you can’t do it… and often you need help). There are no easy fixes. Art holds up a mirror to life and sometimes tilts it so you see from a new angle. Magic and life-or-death situations have a lot in common with day-to-day marvels and pains.

Your friends don’t protect you from your parents by going to your house and getting in the middle of your family situation.

Your friends protect you from your parents by being your friends.

(In short, I deny everybody the things they want, no fixings, only torments!)

Homestuck Nostaliga

So i’ve been seeing posts and stuff and everyone talking about homestuck and the way it has touched their lives and its been hitting me pretty hard all day and i want to try and post some stuff before its too late.  I wanted to talk some about what homestuck was for me as well.

For me homestuck was the first ever group cosplay i got to do in my life.  I had just got into the convention scene around a year before this when i was around 23.  Honestly i felt so out of place at first.  I’m a big dude and also older and kept feeling like i shouldn’t be there.  But i had some friends who were there for me and kept me interested in things.  It was these friends who would later propose a trip to Canada to visit other friends.  @yokaiy and @swoonami-warning said we should do a group cosplay.  And thus was my first homestuck cosplay of Dad brought to life at Anime North 2011

My first group of people that i went and stayed at a con with!

Me(Dad), Zoe(nana), Eve(John)

Me trying to give my sons a cake

It was amazing.  So much fun and so a good con and time with people.  What also made this a really cool con was that my friend Eve had decided to organize a photoshoot.  It was crazy.  Only a few people showed up on the friday so it was more of just a gathering and hang out.  some pictures were taken.  It wasn’t until we showed up on Saturday that we realized what we had unleashed.  So many people had shown up to take pictures for this little fandom.   Only we had a problem.  The whole thing was in complete disarray XD.  Someone needed to organize it and so i started shouting and people listened and that was how i came to run my first shoot.

For me this was huge.  For a big dude i’m am very timid and awkward.  I’m not particularly great with crowds and uncomfortable and unknown situations usually make me crawl back into my shell.  So for me to get up and take charge and make this shoot happen was nothing short of amazing to me.  Little did i know that i would be running these kind of things for the next few years.  And that they would get progressively bigger and bigger.

Katsucon 2012

It was wild to be part of this.  All of a sudden i was helping to run 200 - 500 person shoots with @cancerously who i’m sure by this point is know by most people who are fans of homestuck who attended conventions.  Alex is amazing and has done so much for the fandom and is just a wonderful person who i was happy to befriended and got to do these shoots with.  Eventually we were joined by @fraxinus.  Ashley was another amazing person to meet and work on these shoots with.  Both who would always make such wonderful cosplays as well.  And near the end we also got @saingirl101 joining us in helping with the shoots(although they helped unofficially for a long time :) ).

At the beginning i was still so damn shy and awkard just conversing with people and being in places.  i can still remember some things i did and said that make me cringe XD.  but everyone has their bad memories.  The good memories of conventions and homestuck more than made up for it.  Slowly but surely as i went to more conventions and made more friends and did more shoots and started hanging out with more people.

I was able to work my way out of my shell to be more what i wanted to be which was someone watching out for everyone.

Whenever one of the shoots would be going on you would more often than not find me out and about moving through the crowd helping with the countdowns and talking with everyone.  Making sure people were doing ok and if people needed any help.  Keeping people in the crowds up to date on any development.  As well as just making sure that myself and our co runners kept ourselves hydrated and going strong.  The shoots were always so much fun to run and to be able to just meet and converse with everyone.

And because of homestuck i began to really get myself into sewing newer and better costumes.  trying to make something really cool.  which culminated in me making what is probably still one of my best costumes.  the white king

photo taken by @sbernsteinphoto Another cool person that i met because of homestuck who has become a really good photographer!!!!!

I’ve slowly become a better person in my life and i think it is in part because of homestuck.

Getting to meet so many different and open people i was able to be a more open person.  To accept some of my flaws and to highlight my strengths

Being one of the older members of the fandom i had to learn to be more of a role model, a guardian (my first cosplay as dad a bit more prophetic in terms of just trying to take care of everyone than i thought XD).  Someone to watch out for those that were trying to be apart of something so big.

From the shoots i learned how to be more in charge of group and to be able to speak better in public.  I learned to work in groups better.  To change up tasks and keep the entire team working strong.

With a fandom that had costumes that ran the gambit from easy to incredibly hard i began to teach myself the skills to make cool things.  Learning how to sew.  Learning how to make props like my white king scepter.

And in so many other smaller ways i believe homestuck and more the people i met because of it helped shape me into a better person that i am today.

And so many more friends have i made in this fandom:

@yokaiy and @swoonami-warning for getting me to read homestuck and doing my first cosplay group

@cancerously and @fraxinus for being such cool and amazing people and running shoots with me for those years.

@saingirl101 For being one of the people who has continued to keep up with me at conventions and for having always been up for conversations at conventions.

@unidentified-flying-bananaba and i can’t remember Neko’s tumblr XD - Kanchan, you and Neko did so much to help me break out of my shell.  It would be amazing if we could all hang out more.  You guys helped me realize i could keep cosplaying no matter what :)

@twistedcaliber , can’t remember what Sam’s tumblr is XD, for being some of the first homestuck fandom friends i made

@skeletim for having the same birthday as me…..And for just generally being one of the coolest guys to hang out with and talk with at conventions.  Nothing but the best man.

@agentsama For being the other coolest Dad cosplayer out there.  For being a friend in and out of conventions.  For the couple of times i really needed a friend at a convention and you appeared out of no where.  I wish i could be a better friend to you than i have man.

Mike and Olivia.  I miss you guys.  Mike was one of the friends i made in homestuck that i hung out with all the time.  Then he moved to Minnesota.  I try to contact him when i can but i havn’t been doing a good job of it.  I’m hoping in the next year or so to try and plan a convention up that way to go visit them!

@lord-jagi Our Canadian friend who has been putting up with us for years now and has been switching trips back and forth with us for conventions to see each other.  You are amazing and i would fight anyone who says otherwise.

@inverts an amazing artist and a rather cool person if i do say so myself.  Always really passionate about the fandoms that they get involved in.  I really envy their ability to throw themselves into their art and the things they love.

I’m sure there any number of people that i am missing but i am getting tired.  To anyone i missed.  I don’t care any less about you.  just couldn’t think of everything at this moment.

It makes me sad to think that right now something is ending with this Act 7 flash.  But it’s only a true ending if people let it become that.  The friendships that were made through it won’t go away unless we let them.  I may not see everyone but sometimes at conventions but i treasure each and every person that i have met, befriended, or had fun with in the homestuck fandom.  Everyone of you is an amazing person and i wish i had more time in the day or a life to spend with all of you the time you deserve.

To all my friends.  I am always here for those i can be.  Anytime you want just hit me up :)

[TRANS] Hallyu Pier September Issue: Interview (EXCUSE ME) - Accelerating the 6 Members After a Year Debut in Japan

Thoughts on the important time you spent with fans on the four continent tour.

Last year in February their single [NO MERCY] was ranked second on Oricon Weekly Chart, and in March you began a pacific tour that revolved around four continents and captivated fans from all over the world. It has been two years since your Korean debut in 2012, but it does not seem like they’re going to take a break.

In the last interview we did, Himchan said, “After we finish I want to be able to leave something behind, make it meaningful concert.” Now that their three month long Pacific Tour has come to an end, what did you experience?

Youngjae: It has got to be the time we spend with our fans, we have met throughout the tour, is probably the most important I think. It makes me want to go on tour again soon. From what I experienced on this tour was great, but I want to have an even greater tour next time.

Yongguk: We went to countries and cities like Europe, Australia, and America’s Chicago and Los Angeles. Some of the countries and cities we visited were the places we toured for the first time and every country we visited was amazing!

Zelo: Every country has a completely different atmosphere compared to each other. In America when we preformed a little bit outside of the big city, there were still so many people who cheered us on and showed up to our concert. I was so happy.

Your last tour was the Japan tour. The final was held in Chiba at Makuhari Messe which held 8500 fans who really brought the heat.

Jongup: I think more and more fans have started to encourage us and are wanting to enjoy this with us.

Youngjae: During the last show, I went down into the audience, and I got caught by one of the fans…. (laughs) I was so happy that without thinking, I just started laughing but so many fans gathered around I was worried that they would get hurt. Fortunately no one did got hurt, but that was something that was memorable to me.

Himchan: I’m not sure if I was lonely or sad because the fans were sad, but when the tour ended my chest felt heavy.

Zelo: Compared to our last Japan tour, there were a lot more types of people, including people from different age groups and a lot more families. I was very surprised.

B.A.P speaks a lot about the countries they visited, but besides the stories about being on tour, we heard you went shopping on your free time.

Daehyun: What we all like to do and have fun while doing it, is probably shopping (laughs). We also went sightseeing and took lots of pictures of course, but when we had time we mostly went shopping.

Yongguk: We also went to a shop that we really wanted to visit right? But there were also times we went to landmarks or just relaxed at a coffee shop and just watch the people around us.

Jongup: Oh, and we played basketball. In America we played with the locals that lived there and it was really fun (laughs)

After a long overseas tour B.A.P has taken another step further into their career, with a new single [EXCUSE ME] to be released on Sept. 3rd (Wed.). This song is the new Japanese ver taken from their 3rd major hit Korean album BADMAN.

Himchan: We wanted to make more songs that were originally Korean into Japanese so that our Japanese fans would be also be able to enjoy and sing along. This song is an upbeat fun song so lets get hyped up together!

Yongguk: I think that this song brings out a lot of our colors, it is a very lively hip-hop song. During our tour, when we played this song it was very popular with our fans, so we thought it would also be a great title track with this Japanese album. Also in this album, [COFFEE SHOP], different from our strong powerful songs, it is a bit more jazzy. [ZERO] another hip-hop song included in our album, is very different from our song [EXCUSE ME], giving off a more mischievous vibe.

Daehyun: Because it’s summer, I want people to listen to [EXCUSE ME]. I recommend this for summer, it is well suited and it gets you pumped up!

They’ve had their Japanese debut on October last year. Since then, even if it’s long or short, how do you guys feel about the time span since October is coming soon?

Daehyun: For this upcoming October, I think it was a time that made me realize the time is drawing really near. Furthermore, the most precious moment to me was meeting all the fans.

Zelo: I actually wish the duration of the concert tour was longer. There are still a lot of countries that we have yet to visit. I loved to see all the fans from many different countries and understanding their cultures. I absolutely love the Japanese cultures. For this upcoming October, I would like to practice more on my Japanese.

Himchan: During the time when we had the release party event (for No Mercy), I saw a huge Gundam statue – I was really surprised (laugh). It was so surprising that I had to list them as one of my most memorable memories.

Bang Yongguk: Croissant Takoyaki (Japanese fish-shaped cake)! It was so delicious that I had to bring it home.

Himchan: Speaking of food, the most memorable one was the Monja-yaki (Osaka’s Pan Fried Batter with Various Ingredients) (laugh).

Jongup: Aahhh Ox Tongue… Since I have a lot of muscles, I now feel empty… tongue of cattle… all pages (laugh).

Zelo: During the release party event (for No Mercy), I saw a lot of people dressing up (cosplay) as me during [No Mercy] and [Warrior] era. Since debut, I’ve always enjoyed seeing cosplayers come to the events. I’ll always look forward to it (laugh).

Himchan: They even copied Zelo’s hairstyle. Every time we change into new hairstyles, Zelo’s cosplayer’s always seem to copy his overall look.

This upcoming October, we’ll be celebrating our 1st anniversary of Japanese debut. Another anniversary for us to celebrate! During this one year, I’ve learned so much especially through events, and I’ve also seen growth of each members.

Youngjae: In this one year, I’d love to hold a special event where we could celebrate together with the fans. After that, I want to go shopping (laugh).

Himchan: For our one year anniversary, not for work but privately, I really want to visit Japan with the members. There are so many places I’d love to visit (laugh). The only time when I had a free time was doing some shopping. So, I want to visit places and eat lots of delicious food!

Bang Yongguk: For me, as expected, in this one year celebration, I want to spend a whole day with the fans.

Youngjae: I think I’m the only one who thought about this. I really want to make couple ring (laugh), or wearing pajamas is also good (laugh). Or we could design a top like those Hallyu K-pop group where we could spend a day to design them one by one. However, B.A.P’s schedule is really packed, so our private time is really short. I don’t think it’s possible. It would be nice if we could have a full day to spend time with just the fans.

Daehyun: Beaches, or do water activity. I really want to go there. I want to find a nearby homestay and play water activities. We have no time, even if it’s near, we still can’t go…

Bang Yongguk: I want to fry something if we’re staying at a homestay. It’s been a while so I have to be really careful.

This September will be the release of our new single [EXCUSE ME]. For our one year anniversary event, this year we are going to plan something special. Also, we have a message to share.

Daehyun: To all Japanese fans, please give a lot of support for our new single, the Japanese version of [EXCUSE ME]. Please look forward to it!

Zelo: I really want to meet you guys soon. From now onwards, I will work even harder to show our best side. Please take good care of me.

Youngjae: For this upcoming event on September, I want to show a lot of performance while you guys are standing near us. Let’s laugh together, let’s enjoy the time together!

Jongup: (in Japanese) I love you! (laugh)
