Honoring the Elements: Altar Guide 🕯✨

Setting up an altar dedicated to the elements is simple and effective! And what better way to show thanks for their presence in our lives than through your own personal shrine? The elements are a part of our everyday living, and assist heavily in our paths. Here are some simple additions you can incorporate into your own altar:

Earth: flowers, bones, sticks, herbs, leaves, crystals/stones of your choice 🌍

Air: incense sticks or cones, feathers, a wand, sage or palo santo 🌬

Fire: red, orange, or yellow candles (or any color!), a salt lamp or candle holder 🔥

Water: a chalice, bottle, or bowl of fresh water (or water collected from a lake/river/pond/ocean), shells, sea salt, something representative of the moon (to honor the tides) 💧

Spirit: a pentagram (drawn, molded, sewn, etc, or perhaps you have one that you’ve purchased), any object that is close to your heart and representative of you 🔮

(and don’t forget about figurines, small framed photos, or written notes of your choosing. personal touch is everything)!

College Boy

Pairing: Y/N and Harry

Word Count: 1311

Prompt: Harry wants a shot at a normal life so he attends Northeastern University, but it’s harder than he thinks. The friends he made just want fame, and the other hardly look at him. But then he meets her, Y/N, and she wants nothing to do with the a-list celebrity.

Cole and Dylan Sprouse did it, Emma Watson, Amy Pohler, they all went to college, and Harry wanted to as well. He wanted the experience of something normal for once, he wanted to be able to say he graduated, he wanted his family to come to a graduation. When the news broke out everyone went crazy trying to figure out where he was going, and Harry got accepted everywhere. But he wanted to succeed he wanted to go to a school he knew was right from him, which was far from Harvard, but it also wasn’t community college. He wanted a roommate, he wanted to live in a dorm, attend the dreadful eight ams, and have RA’s. So he picked Northeastern University, still the top best, but no Harvard.

Harry was thankful for his roommate, Nick. Nick didn’t care at all about who Harry was. Nick spent most of his time in the library or in the room studying, he hardly spoke to Harry. Nick had a plan, two years at Northeastern and then Harvard. Nick made it clear that he didn’t want parties or girls coming in and out every night and Harry promised he would be as normal as possible, but Nick just scoffed.

It wasn’t easy for Harry and he wondered how everyone else did it. Students watched him, took pictures, videos, whispered, they just kept following him around, and Harry hated it. He found it difficult to make friends, the ones he did make wanted fame, and the other kept away. He couldn’t seem to find someone who wanted to actually sit and talk with him.

Nick had been holding a study group in their room so Harry grabbed his bag and made his way to the library. It was quiet and as soon as he walked in he saw a couple phones point his way. He huffed and made his way to the back where there were small cubicles. He pulled a chair back and pulled out his laptop. Texts from Jeff and Nick quickly popped up.

Nick: How’s the college life, join a frat yet?

Jeff: Do you miss the studio yet?

Nick: I love you but this is just insane why are you doing this?

Cleaning Candle Holders

Cleaning candle holders is probably one of my least favorite things to do, but recently I’ve started collecting left over wax to use in other projects (a post for a much later day) and I was entrusted with a few extra candle holders to clean so what better use of chore than to make a blog post about how I get it done.

There are A LOT of ways to clean candles. This is just the way that I like doing it and I prefer to do things in batches anyways because I’m all about saving some time.

  • candle holders that need cleaning
  • a large pot or bowl
  • a knife (or something you can poke wax out with)
  • paper towel/something to wipe the candle holders down with
  • hot water (I boiled my water in my tea kettle and poured it into my bowl)

  1. Use a knife to cut slashes into the wax still in the candle holder
  2. Place candle holders in a large pot and pour hot water into candle holders and around them. Leave sitting for about 15 minutes.
  3. Leftover wax will either float to the top or be soft and cool enough to pull out with a knife
  4. You can either soak them in a fresh batch of warm water or you can wipe off the excess wax with a paper towel (I used the paper bags we save from last minute store runs)
  5. You can set aside the wax for a future project or toss it!
EDIT: poster has been claimed, thanks for the interest!

Would anyone be interested in buying a movie theatre sized poster (27inx41in, 68cmx104cm) of the upcoming Shape of Water?

They sent us a few too many at work to put up, so I took one home

It’s this version of the poster

It’d be 40$ + shipping

(Unless you can make me a better offer to outbid someone else)

I can have it out and mailed by next Tuesday! PM me if interested!

The few things i picked up to get started✨

Water bottle holder.

Hi Guys welcome back to beginners Journey into Leather Craft. Firstly, Apologies..I have no build along pics of this one as it was a spur of the moment thing but if there is any interest I would happily do another and record the build along. So, With the recent hot weather I wanted something to keep my water close, I’ve seen versions of this around and this is my own take on someone elses amazing Idea. This is another great little project for someone just starting out, my version doesn’t have any stitching which makes it easier to achieve and the Stamped design is a simple technique to learn…First I found a piece of  ‘Veg Belly’ ( Veg Tan ) leather. Its a lot cheaper than most at £15 from Tandy leather Factory . These can be made using what ever thickness leather you like but if you go much thicker than this one pictured you might…

A guy walked into my math class with a whole baguet in the water bottle holder of his backpack, shared it with anyone who wanted some, and when asked said a random kid in the hallway handed him it in the hallway. He had had two and handed them out to him and some other kid. No one knows why he did this, but I got to eat some of a stale baguette.

  • Goro: I need to keep my bike from being stolen. I figure if I think like a thief, I can figure outhow to protect it. So, how would you try to steal my bike?
  • Morgana: Well first off, how do you know your crappy bike is even worth stealing? How many pegs you got? Mag wheels? White tires? Worthless baseball card in the spokes?
  • Morgana: If not, then you got nothing to worry about. What self-respecting bicycle thief would steal a (shudder) ten-speed? Or a (shudder, shudder) mounTAIN bike? The only thing those bikes gets you is tired. Any bike with a water bottle holder is a complete waste of bike.

for promts: I'd love to see what you'd do with Victor's POV, especially if you subscribe to the headcanon of Victor with depression or similar. I've been wanting a giant Victor Angst Fest with him trying to navigate Yuuri's (unknowingly) 'mixed-signals' and his first ever roller coaster 'he loves me, he loves me not'-crush in season 1, but their time in St Petersburg from Victor's POV would be lovely as well. 'So this is what it feels like not to be lonely. But what if he leaves?' Thank you :)

Working my way through the latter half of prompts - thank you all so much for your patience!!

So first of all, thank you so much for this opportunity - it was so much fun to try! I gave your second prompt a shot. It’s bit more ‘wistful fluff’ than ‘angst’ because I seem to be incapable of making these kids permanently sad, but I hope you enjoy it nonetheless!

Also thank you so much @kevystel for encouraging me to post what I had written of this earlier this week! It seriously helped me think through this.

Fic below the cut! Also, mild warning for oblique references to depression (plus a bit of anxiety with regard to sense of self?) Also also, this owes so much to this post.

Any tips with staying awake in class? (Apart from the obvious like getting enough sleep and eating breakfast) I've been struggling in my new classes, so I hope you can help 💕💕💕Love your blog!

Here are a few ideas:

  • eating something that gives you energy - apples are probably best, but I guess a few sweets might be more enjoyable hah!
  • have a coffee - obviously, not the best option but reliable for most
  • have a very cold drink - water bottles with ice holders are great!
  • put on some of your favourite music before class - you might just get into a bit better mood and wake up a little.
  • have a cold shower in the morning - this tends to make you feel more alert and productive.
  • chew gum - apparently, it helps you stay focused for longer!
  • don’t rely on your laptop - typing sometimes makes us write down everything the teacher is saying because we can type a heck of a lot faster. If you try using pen and paper, you’ll be more engaged in the content and should help you maintain focus.
  • sit closer to the front - it might just force you to pay a little closer attention if the teacher is close by! You might be less distracted too because you’ll feel watched hah!

Thank you xxx

Setting Up Your Altar

There are many ways for one to set up their altar. I, personally, change my altar according to the season. The Altar in the top left picture is my current Fall altar. The altar in the top right was around Imbolc, and the altar on the bottom was during the spring/summer time. Some people like to change their altar up like I do while others keep theirs exactly the same year round.

When you are preparing to set up a permanent altar, clean the space thoroughly – the carpet, wood, furniture, etc. You may also want to think about the direction in which your altar is laying. Generally in ritual, the altar is facing North. If you can’t face the altar in that direction for certain reasons, choose a space that feels the most comfortable to you.

Altar Cloth – You can choose to have one or not. This is a cloth that sits under your ritual tools. You can coordinate the color and/or symbols on your cloth with your ritual or spell work to enhance your magick.

Pentacle – This is one of the main altar tools. It can be made of wood, glass, ceramic, metal, etc, and usually has a pentacle upon its surface painted or carved. Your pentacle can have any symbol that you wish upon it such as the tree of life, the triquetra, or the triskele. This tool typically represents Earth and has grounding properties. It is considered to have feminine qualities.

Athame – Not everyone has an athame but I like to keep mine on my altar. The athame is a ritual knife used for ceremonial purposes only. It is generally used to focus and direct energy. It is also considered one of the four main ritual items to have. This item can represent Fire or Air depending on your tradition. It is considered masculine in aspect.

Wand – Another of the main ritual tools, the wand is used similarly like an athame. I tend to use my wand when working with elemental energies and spiritual work. This tool can represent Fire or Air, and in some circumstances, Earth, depending on the tradition. It is considered to house the masculine aspect.

Chalice – This is the last of the ritual tools and usually represents Water and the feminine aspect. The Chalice is used in Cakes and Ale.

Representations of the Elements – I like to place representatives of the 4 elements around my pentacle and cauldron. I use a bowl of salt for Earth, a red candle for fire, a bowl of water for water, and an incense holder with incense for air.

Cauldron – This is probably my most beloved tool. It represents all the mysteries of the feminine divine and Witchcraft. I have my cauldron placed upon the center of my pentacle as a representation of the spirit and its fathomless depth. I burn herbs and my intentions within the cauldron during ritual and spell work.

Crystals – I like to place crystals that are representative of the season upon my altar to enhance my spiritual work. They can also represent the Earth.

Herbs – I tend to infuse my water with herbs to enhance my spell work. I also like to burn them upon coal within my cauldron.

Sage Bundle – I like to keep a bundle of Sage nearby for quick cleansing.

God/Goddess Candles – If you worship deities, you may want to have them represented on your sacred altar. I keep a God and Goddess candle – with respective colors – upon my altar. My Goddess candles lays to the left which represents mystery and the feminine aspect and my God candle lays to the right which represents power and the masculine aspect.

Charge Box – I place my Charge Box upon my altar every so often when I feel that I need secrecy and something to enhance my spell work. This box holds certain items that need to be charged with power.

Statuary – Some people prefer to have statues upon their altar that represent their deities.

Decorating Your Altar:

Here is a list of some extra decorations you can place upon your altar with intention:

  • Tarot cards
  • Rune stones
  • Candles
  • Herbs
  • Crystals
  • Pictures
  • Scrying Mirror
  • Jewelry
  • Talismans
  • Charms
  • Seasonal Decorations

For you @aki-draws-things, who asked for sick R taking E to the beach because he promised E he would!

I hope you like it, sweets!

There are many things, Grantaire has come to learn over the years, that Enjolras has missed out on thanks to strict parents and a scheduled childhood, but when Grantaire learns that Enjolras has never been to the beach, he makes a firm promise to take Enjolras as soon as finals are through.

Since then, he’s had the whole day planned beautifully. He and Enjolras are going to swim, find seashells, lounge under the warm sun, and just enjoy the beautiful setting mother nature has to offer.

What’s not a part of the plan? Being sick.

The day they are set to leave, Grantaire wakes to a dull throb thumping against his temples, and that’s paired with a runny nose and itchy throat: all tell-tale signs of a cold. Of course, he thinks as he slips from bed carefully to not wake Enjolras. Of course he would get sick the day he’s going to introduce Enjolras to something new, something beautiful.

He shuffles quietly to the bathroom of their shared apartment and winces at his pale, sunken reflection in the mirror. Strands of hair are clinging to his temples, and he presses the backs of his fingers against his cheek to feel a slight warmth that has him reaching for the thermometer.

In just a minute, he’s frowning at the blinking 100.2 degree reading. It’s not bad, he tells himself as he puts the thermometer away and grabs a bottle of fever reducers. He pops two into his mouth and dry swallows them with a grimace. He’s hoping these will work because he’s not going to back out of his promise to Enjolras; he can’t back out of his promise.

Through the mirror, Grantaire can see Enjolras standing in the doorway behind him and rubbing at tired eyes with hair falling out of his loose top bun. “Hey, sleepyhead,” Grantaire says before quickly turning the tap onto cold water and leaning forward to splash water across his face. He only leans up when he feels a lazy finger tracing down his spine.

“What are you doing?” He asks as he blinks water from his eyes and reaches for a hand towel to pat dry his face.

“Giving you a hint of what we are going to do on the beach.”
