Return to Oz Review

Okay let me start off by saying how I ended up watching this movie in the first place. A few months ago I got this book from Seven Seas publishing which included both the original Wizard of Oz and it’s sequel the Marvelous Land of Oz with brand new manga style illustrations. I strongly recommend picking it up as the illustrations included are adorable and full of charm (and don’t worry the story is kept entirely intact). While I had read the original Wizard of Oz book a couple of times before this, I had never read any of the books after that for some reason I just never thought of looking at the rest of the series, but since Marvelous Land was included in this book I decided to give it a read and surprisingly I think I enjoy it more than the original Wizard of Oz book. I still love the first book but Marvelous Land just has so much more in it, there’s more characters, more humor, more of Oz is explored, and we get to see what happened after Dorothy went back home. This then brought up my curiosity about the Disney film Return to Oz. This movie has earned quite the reputation as being one of the most horrifying children’s movies of all time, which is particularly why I avoided seeing it for most of my life considering I was a complete fraidy cat. However after reading Marvelous Land I remembered reading that this movie took elements from both Marvelous Land and the third book Ozma of Oz to create the story, and being the one of the biggest Disney nuts on the planet I was curious to see how Disney would adapt Marvelous Land to the screen, though before seeing the film I did read Ozma of Oz so that I see how elements of that book were done as well.

Before I go into detail about the film one thing I want to make perfectly clear is that despite what several reviews and websites might tell you this is NOT a sequel to the 1939 MGM movie musical. Actually while I’m on the subject of the MGM adaptation I still love that movie. While it isn’t completely faithful to the original books it still does it’s job well as an adaption, and manages to stand on it’s own. It’s a fun, uplifting, and charming movie and definitely a classic. However there’s a bit of a problem with that. Nowadays when people mention Wizard of Oz the first thing to come to mind isn’t the book but actually the MGM musical, because of that there seems to be some unwritten law in Hollywood that states all adaptations of Oz must be as close to the MGM musical as possible, leading to some pretty mediocre Oz films. Fans of the books don’t enjoy them because they aren’t faithful to the books, and fans of the MGM musical don’t like them because they all feel like cheap imitations of the movie, and to fans of both they’re bad for both of those reasons. There is so much more to the land of Oz that a lot of people aren’t aware of today and it sucks that most movie companies are like “Nope, it has to be like the MGM one.”

This movie on the other hand does not follow that trend. Okay a few elements are lifted from the MGM musical such as Dorothy’s braids and darker hair and the red ruby slippers (Which Disney had to pay MGM big bucks for because originally they were sliver in the book), but that’s pretty much it. Instead of being a sequel to the MGM musical its a sequel to the original book (well mostly anyway), this causes a few problems in case you haven’t read the original book but I’ll get to that later.

The story begins with Dorothy being depressed and having trouble sleeping because she can’t stop thinking about Oz. This worries Uncle Henry and Auntie Em, who end up taking her to a Doctor that can help her sleep and “get rid of those pesky dreams” through a brand new process known as electric shock therapy… Yes. That is mentioned, and actually almost happens to Dorothy while being in the most unsettling hospital in family film history. Luckily the power goes out before they can start the process and another girl helps Dorothy escape, only for Dorothy to fall into a river during a terrible storm almost immediately afterwords (jeeze, Kanas sure has a lot of bad weather in these stories). Later she wakes up in the land of Oz with a talking chicken named Billina, however when Dorothy gets to the Emerald City she finds it in ruins with everyone being turned to stone and the Scarecrow nowhere to be found, the land said to be ruled by an evil character known as the Nome King. Throughout the movie Dorothy meets up with more unusual characters such as Tik Tok the mechanical man, Jack Pumpkinhead, and a flying couch with a Gump’s head on it (Why are you giving me that weird look), and with her new friends they go on a journey to find the Nome King, rescue the Scarecrow and restore Oz back to it’s former glory.

The story is very well written, it’s not completely accurate to the books it was based on, but out of all of the big screen Oz adaptations I’ve seen this honestly feels the most loyal to the original books. A lot of the new dialogue feels very much like something L. Frank Baum would write. I especially like how the movie handles all of the characters, once again staying true to their original book versions. I absolutely love the characters of this movie, Tik Tock, Jack Pumpkinhead, Billina, the Gump and pretty much every single character that was included. It makes me wish that budget cuts didn’t limit the appearance of other characters in the film as I would have loved to see more of this movie’s versions of the Lion, Tinman, and Scarecrow.

While I’m on the subject of the characters lets talk about the visuals of this movie… I am in love with them. This being before the age where CGI was used for everything (the good old days as it where), every effect here is practical, from the claymation used to bring the Nome King and his minions to life, to the puppetry that brings Jack, Billina, Tik Tok, and the Gump to life. As a puppetry nut I love how the puppets were done here. Their designs look like they walked straight out of the book, heck they even move like how you think they would based on the books descriptions (well okay the Tin Man looks like he could collapse at any second with those skinny legs, but that’s the only issue I have visually). For instance Jack Pumpkinhead was put together with various sticks and ropes, as a result his movements are very off balance. Oh and there’s also this cool effect with Jack where his head can squash and stretch like a cartoon character, I love touches like that! I’ve also gotta give praise to the claymation here. They got special effects master Will Vinton to head the animation on the Nomes it it looks fantastic, there’s this one character who’s just a face on a wall and he’s super expressive, his face morphs with every movement he makes, it just looks so cool!

That being said the movie still has a few issues. Getting the main one out of the way first, I think this movie starts off way too dark and depressing. Not only is Kanas shown as being more boring and colorless, but anytime Dorothy mentions the smallest thing about Oz everybody tells her to stop talking about Oz because they think it’s imaginary. Okay I know adults were more strict with kids back in the time this film takes place, but honestly what’s wrong with a kid having an imagination? Now I don’t mind the dark and spooky stuff that comes later on, but most family films start off a bit more light hearted to ease you into the scary stuff that comes later on (Disney’s Pinocchio is a good example of this). I was actually surprised at how lighter the tone got when Dorothy and Billina finally got to Oz complete with comedic piano music, I was like “well that was a tone shift.” That tone would have been a bit more appropriate to begin the film with Dorothy in Kanas (or at least have her get to Oz sooner).
This causes another problem which is with most of the Oz stories you want Dorothy to be able to get back home. One thing the MGM musical did was give Dorothy more friends with the farm hands back in Kanas, which not only made Kanas feel more welcoming but gave Dorothy more of a reason to go back home. Here, I think there’s honestly not much reason for Dorothy going back home except for Toto. Kanas just looks so unfriendly in this movie, even with all the scary stuff that happens in there Oz still seems like the more appealing place and she has a lot more friends there, so… Why go back to the family that sent her to electro shock therapy? However that’s probably my only problem with the story that I can think of off the top of my head.

There’s also the fact that since this is a sequel to the book a few things were referenced in this movie that people wouldn’t nessicarly know about unless they did read it. These elements are given brief explanations so it isn’t too out of left field though. However there’s also the fact that the book and the MGM musical have different tones to the story, thus if people going in expecting something similar to the musical they’re gonna be disappointed and caught off guard. It seems like a lot of studios try to make their own sequels to the original Wizard of Oz while still giving it a new twist or changing elements, but it’s hard for people to get into a sequel story when they haven’t seen the first story and it’s even harder when that universe’s first story doesn’t exist as it’s own movie. Personally I think Disney should have tried to adapt the first Wizard of Oz story before making Return to Oz, but then again I can understand why they went with Return to Oz first as people might just be comparing it to the original MGM musical.

Some people might say, “what about all of the scary stuff that happens in the movie?” and while yes there is a lot of scary stuff I didn’t think it was too horrifying per say. It never went gory or bloody, I felt like a good amount of scary for a family film. I think the reason why Return to Oz flopped back in it’s day was because it just came out before it’s time. Nowadays we have family films like Coraline and ParaNorman, which were much more successful films and featured stuff that was just as scary as what happens in this movie. Now I’m not saying all kids can handle this movie (I would strongly suggest not showing it to little kids), but I think this is the kind of family movie to show to pre-teen crowd nowadays.

Honestly I kind of like when this film gets scary, and I still consider myself a scaredy cat. I particularly like the climax, which is probably the most intense climax I have seen in any Disney movie. While I was watching it I kept on thinking “Come on go quickly” or “Quick around that corner-wait don’t go there!”, its full of suspense even on my second viewing.

Overall I think Return to Oz is a fantasitic movie and I absolutely love it now. It really is a shame that it bombed because I would have loved to see Disney try to adapt more of the Oz books (and I don’t mean new prequels to Oz I mean adaptations of the original stories). I’m honestly surprised that not many studios have tried making more Oz movies in the style of the books. The Oz stories are practically begging to given their own cinematic universe, all of the original books are public domain now so it’s practically gift wrapped for the studios and they do nothing with them except adapting the first book over and over again! -sigh- Maybe someday we’ll get an Oz movie series that gives the Oz books the proper treatment and respect they deserve, until then we’ll always have Return to Oz to return to. If you’re an Oz fan or love family films with a scary edge to them this is certainly the film for you.

Being Tony Stark’s daughter is overrated.

It was just a huge, chaotic mess of helping Tony prevent the world from going into a more chaotic state. It’s not that (Y/n) doesn’t like her father or anything, it’s because she loved him so much she was worried half to death everyday that he wouldn’t come home in one piece after a mission.

But like everything else in the world, being a Stark has its perks. (Y/n) grew up with the Avengers, meaning that when she was a little girl, it was Natasha and Clint who told her how to fight, Steve who told her bedtime stories, Bruce who tutored her, and Thor who comforted her when she was afraid of thunderstorms.

But that was years ago.

Now (Y/n) is 15, too old for bedtime stories or to be afraid of thunderstorms.

The events of the Sokovia accords broke her. What she knew as her family was now separated into two.

She would give anything to hear another bedtime story from Steve.

“(Y/n)?” Peter called, noticing that (Y/n) had a blank stare in her usually lively eyes,“Are you okay?”

(Y/n) snapped out of her train of thoughts. “I’m fine,” she sighed quietly.

They sat on the couch together, watching the Hobbit as their hands tangled together, (Y/n)’s head on Peter’s shoulder.

Of course, the Sokovia Accords also has its perks. She met Peter.

At first, Peter was just a stuttering mess who didn’t know how to act around her. Given time, they bonded over their love of Star Wars their similar intention of saving the world. It wasn’t until one night while watching Return Of The Jedi that Peter suddenly blurted out that he liked her.

That was two months ago.

And no, her father didn’t know.

Honestly, (Y/n) wasn’t really sure how he’ll react when he finds out.

“You’re doing that again,” Peter said softly. (Y/n)’s nose crinkled in confusion, “doing what?”

“That look with your eyes. Like you’re thinking, you know? What are you thinking about?” he asked with genuine curiosity and fascination.

“Just how dad will react if he knew,” (Y/n) said, chuckling in the end.

Peter grinned, kissing her nose playfully. “He’ll kill me when he finds out.”

“Who’ll kill you when who finds out what?” asked a stern voice from the back of the room, causing (Y/n) and Peter to jump in their seats.

Tony had ‘the look’ in his eyes, meaning that he could go off anytime now.

He stepped closer to Peter. “Don’t tell me it’s what I think it is.”

Peter sank down in seat. “I-I think it is what you think it is…?” he answered uncertainly.

“Okay,” Tony said, forcing himself to say the word.

“It’s okay?” Peter asked, a tint of hope in his voice.

“No,” he replied. “I’m giving you a five-minute head start.”

Peter’s eyes widened like tennis balls as he ran to the door, giving a pleading and apologetic look at (Y/n).

As soon as Peter was out of sight, Tony sat next to his daughter and gave her a grin. He laughed out loud. “He’s going to be so pissed when he finds out I’m just messing with him.”

Yes, being a Stark definitely has its perks.

Humans in spaaaaace

Had this thought last night as I lay falling asleep. We have all these space-exploration-ensemble shows with a bunch of aliens each of which has some sort of super-human power, more or less. And humans are always given ~leadership~ as their special power. The ability to bring people together, to organize shit, and I always thought, like…what a shitty power. What a shitty colonial “you were a mess until we came in and saved you” power. Drives me nuts. Seems like if an alien species builds a got-damn ship that can fly through got-damn space they probably have their shit together, right? At least somewhat?

So then I figure, what is humanity got to contribute to all these super-beings? We’re just nonsense reckless critters careening through space. Seems like we’d be more trouble than we’re worth.

But what if…I mean, what if that’s us. We’re the universe’s huckleberries. We’ll run headlong into danger, and we’ll *laugh*. And what if…what if we survive and a weirdly abnormally high rate. Like any alien with two bits of math can put together that we should have wiped ourselves out a long time ago with the first set of “hold my beer, and watch this.” So what the shit, how are we still banging around the universe building shit and flying off solar ramps into the sun while doing some spaceship equivalent of an ollie while crushing beer cans on our forehead. Why. Why do we exist.

And then it hits me. We survive. We’re super good at it. Uncannily good at it. So much so that we…I mean, we actually bend probability in our favor. It’s absurd. And it totally falls flat if you actually tell us this (“Never tell me the odds,” said Solo, knowing full well that knowing the odds kills a human’s chances of survival).

So there we are. Careening around the universe. Joining alien crews because they know that with a human on board, especially a cocky human in some kind of leadership position, can warp probability to stretch success in their favor. And they can never ever tell us this. So instead they just pat our heads and tell us we’re just so good at ~leadership~ and that’s what makes humans special

But really…we’re just a bunch of space dinguses.

Sitting up in your bed, you stared at the window, not sure of how to react to seeing Spider-Man’s masked face through the glass.  Throwing back your covers, you quietly walked over to the window, grabbing a hoodie that Peter had lent you as you passed your desk.  Sliding the glass panel up, you climbed out onto the metal fire escape, slipping on and zipping up Peter’s hoodie to protect you from the cold.

The superhero stood where he had first stood, the night he saved your life and blew up Vizzini’s all those months ago.  And there, to his right, were the flower pots that he had tripped over the first time he came back for you.  Those stairs were where you would sit and draw while he watched your fingers fly across the page, amazed at the pictures you created.  Behind him was the railing that you would lean against as you looked at the Queens skyline together.  This fire escape was your entire relationship condensed, the one location where you were allowed to be with each other.  If you used your imagination, you could almost see every single night playing out in front of your eyes.  Spider-Man, with a bendy straw underneath his mask.  Spider-Man, attempting to draw you in the moonlight.  Spider-Man, his hand on your waist and the other in your hair. Spider-Man.

Sick of Losing You

Plot: Harry and Y/N lost each other when he found someone else.

Warnings: None aside that it kinda broke my heart.

Pic of this beauty isn’t mine.

I watched from a far how he held on to her hand, his fingers grasping and squeezing hers gently while his eyes never left her pretty face. He watched her speak with such an intensity in his green eyes, as if he literally saw nothing other than her. His girlfriend. Not me.
I took a deep breath, swallowed the thick lump building in my throat and turned away from the sight.
Exactly three weeks ago, Harry and I had shared a kiss. Our first kiss, which had been exactly how I’d secretly always wished for it to be. Of course it had been. Every time you get to kiss the person you love is special and like fireworks painting colors into the sky.

He’d been talking and listening to me all night, similar to how he now was with her and had at some point reached out to hold my hand, just like he was holding hers in this moment.
When the time felt right, he’d leant in and had captured my lips with his. Needless to say, Harry was a phenomenal kisser. He knew when to press further, when to use how much tongue and was very attentive to how my body responded to his. Whenever I thought about it now, my cheeks tingled with the memory of his hands cupping them gently as he cradled my face to keep me close. He’d been so soft, so perfect. Harry had touched me with a tenderness, I thought it’d break my heart. I remembered wrapping my arms around his neck and feeling like they belonged there, like I was meant to hold him close.
Only that I wasn’t. The girl he was with now only proved how insignificant I was.

I couldn’t help peaking and looking over at him again. Harry’s lips. I knew exactly how they felt when pressed against my own, knew their taste and shape. Their warmth. Harry’s touch was impossible to forget.
I watched him kiss his girlfriend with a mesmerized stare, before moving away and into the kitchen, leaving the small gathering of our friends with a murmured excuse that I needed to get a refill of my drink, when in reality I couldn’t bear seeing the man I loved sharing affectionate kisses with someone else.
But not even the kitchen was a safe area for me. t had been this exact kitchen, the one in Harry’s house, where he’d pulled me aside and told me about her for the first time.

“It’s difficult” I think he said. “It’s my fault that this situation has become so messy.”

Was it silly that I could actually still remember every word he spoke to me? That I’d engraved every pause, every take in of breath he made, deeply into my head?

“Listen, Y/N… You’re important to me. I care about you. Need you, it’s just… There is someone. Someone who could be a chance for a relationship and I really want to give this a go. Give her a go, I mean. You can understand that, right?”

At first it’d felt like none of it was real. Because how could he be serious?
Harry. My best friend, Harry.
Only three days after our magical first kiss, three days full of us talking and flirting and texting constantly, he was telling me that he wanted someone else. Her name was Ira. And though he was seemingly behaving the same way with her he had been with me, we weren’t the same. In fact, she was everything I wasn’t. So when he told me he wanted her and not me, that he was picking her over of me, how come I’d been surprised?

I would never be his first choice, not when there were thousands of others he could choose from. And it was time for my brain to learn to not interpret every kind gesture, time to learn to stop overthinking every word. It was time for my head to accept, that there was no way Harry Styles could possibly want me.

So… I had been understanding. Kind even.
I’d lied and told him that yes, I agreed that our kiss had been a mistake. We shouldn’t have done any of that and instead thought of our friendship first, rather than our impulses. I’d kept a smile on my face throughout the entire talk and even finished the short chat by wishing him good luck with her. Another lie.

My fingers shook and so I set the empty glass of my drink down quickly, worried for a moment that I might otherwise spill the last few drops. I didn’t think much when I reached for the bottle of vodka on the counter. There was no getting through this night if I didn’t have something proper to drink. If only I remembered the recipe….

“Need help?”

My shoulders tensed. It couldn’t be him. Please… anyone, literally anyone, but him.

However when I turned around, Harry was there. He stood tall and beautiful, his short hair soft and wavy. Harry’s compelling eyes held my gaze with such a tender rawness in them, my knees weakened. All my body burned for was to wrap my arms around his shoulders and have him embrace me, have him tell me that everything would be okay again. I felt like I needed it, but knew that this was a wish I would be denied. Harry must have felt it, too. It was in the air around us. It had changed and… buzzed. As if being in each other’s presence made the world halt still for a moment.

“I’m sorry,” Harry chuckled lowly when I didn’t say anything. How could he smile like everything was alright?

And what was it he was apologizing for? Abandoning our friendship? Ruining any hope I’d had to find a partner in him? Shattering my heart? Hardly.

“For scaring you,” Harry elaborated, a sudden hint of guilt in his eyes, almost as if he’d read my thoughts.

“It’s fine, Harry,” I muttered, bearing a false smile, “All good.”

It was hard to look at him. Especially his eyes. They burned a whole into my chest whenever my own orbs found them. They reminded me of the Harry he once was, the one I could always come to and rely on.

“What are you doing?” Harry asked, his head nodding towards the bottle of vodka. His forehead furrowed in a worried expression and I quickly set the container back down.

“I wanted to make myself a drink, but the recipe slipped my mind. I’m not as much of an alcoholic as it must look like.”

“Good to know,” Harry chuckled, then, visibly thinking about it first, took a step forward. “I remember what you like in your favorite drink. Could make you one.”

From how close he was standing, it was easy to notice every detail of his skin. Every curve of his lips, every hair of his barely-there beard. My stomach turned.

“That’d be nice.”

Harry smiled and nodded. “Okay.”

We avoided any touching. I was leant against the counter, he stood with a safe distance between us and only came closer when he needed a different ingredient that happened to be near me. It was awkward and… weird. It didn’t feel like ‘us’. The friends we’d been once seemed to be two completely different people. I knew him and felt he was familiar, but there was a emotional distance between us I knew neither of us could overcome. And still, I was with him and even if we behaved like strangers, being with Harry was nice.

“I think that’s it,” Harry said, breaking the silence. His eyes were set on the pink-orange liquid in my glass, then they drifted to my face. A proud smile pulled at the corners of his mouth.

“You 'think’?” I challenged shyly.

I took the glass from him (cautious not to touch his fingers) and took a sip. It tasted great.

“M'not big of a show off,” Harry grinned, “S'it good?”

I nodded and stirred the colored liquid once more. “Thanks, Harry.”

“You’re welcome, Y/N.” His voice was soft and his gaze shy.

The air around us shifted once more. My eyes teared up. What had happened to us? Harry and I… we used to be the kind of friends who didn’t stopped talking to each other for hours. At first, we’d be loud. We’d laugh and giggle so much eventually both of our tummies hurt. That was when we’d change the subject and speak more quietly, until several hours later our conversations drifted to topics only we were allowed to hear. Then we’d be whispering and sitting closer together, always an eager sparkle in the other’s eyes as we both listened with interest about what was being said.

I quickly turned away and pretended to yawn. My eyes blinked rapidly and I willed them not to cry in front of him. Not because of embarrassment, but because I couldn’t do that to him. I’d given him my okay. I had no right to be mad at him for having found someone else. Harry remained standing close and with his hands in the front pockets of his black jeans.

“I think I should go,” I muttered.

I held my head low and took a deep breath before looking at him briefly. Harry’s eyes held concern and his fingers twitched, as if he longed to reach out for me.

“Y/N, love,” he began lowly, “Do you think we could talk for a bit? S'been a while since I got to see you. Hear your voice. I missed you.”

This time when my eyes met his green orbs, I didn’t look away, even though I could feel the tears forming and coming closer to spilling over. Harry’s whole expression changed. His cheeks paled and his forehead furrowed deeper.

“I miss you, too, Harry,” I admitted, my weak voice barely above a whisper.

“No,” he mumbled, shaking his head slowly, sorrow deeply set in his eyes. His feet stepped closer and his warm hands touched my flushed cheeks before I even had the chance to back away from him. The unexpected closeness caught me off guard and had more tears coming, this time because of how much I hated how uncommon this sort of care from him had become.

Harry embraced me. His head buried itself into my neck and both arms wrapped themselves around my waist so he could lift me up from my feet. “Please no, Y/N, Sweetheart. Don’t cry.”

I couldn’t help it. My heart, the final bit that had been whole still, broke in his caring hands and I was overcome and pulled under a wave of grief. That was what I was doing. I was grieving our friendship and the lost hope I’d had for a relationship with him. And he allowed it. He let me cry against his collarbones without any complaint and instead began to hum quietly, knowing how much his voice always soothed me. Pain shot through my chest. He probably did the same when she was upset.

“I can’t-” I cried, but got cut off by my lungs that burned with need for air.

Harry hushed me, his hold tightening, “Don’t, Y/N. It’s going to be alright.”

I shook my head and loosened the hold I’d taken around his neck. My hands momentarily brushed his soft hair, then I pulled away. Harry hesitated but allowed me to step out of his hold.

“I can’t take it anymore, Harry,” I confessed, my voice breaking halfway through the sentence. I reached up to brush my cheeks with the end of my sleeve and hiccuped. My head felt numb and I knew if I didn’t get out of this kitchen soon, he’d witness a break down I wasn’t comfortable with him seeing.

Harry’s hand reached for my arm. I didn’t fight it when he pulled me closer to him, but avoided his eyes when he leaned down to find my gaze.

“Y/N,” he spoke, his voice rough with emotion, “I promise you, it’ll be alright. M'not leaving, okay? M'not. We’ll figure this out.”

I wanted to scream but all I could was shake my head rapidly. “Figure this out how? What have we become, Harry?”

Another sob wrecked through my chest.

“I don’t know,” he confessed, “But we’re going to find each other again, okay? I promise. Let me say goodbye to the others and then we’ll go for a walk or something. We’ll talk. About everything and nothing at all… Just like we always used to, yeah?”

Used to. So long ago, it seemed.

“Okay,” I whispered, my burning eyes set on my feet. My skin shivered under his warmth and my lips hurt from how much I was bitting them.

I flinched when his mouth pressed a kiss to my head. The skin was left with a burning sensation. “Wait for me here, love.”

Harry’s quick feet carried him out of the kitchen and left me standing by the counter with my heart at the pit of my stomach. I stood up straight and brushed the few remaining tears from my cheeks. My skin tingled and I felt the hint of a smile on my lips, even though my body ached.
Looking back now, I wish I would have stayed put by the counter and had waited for him just like he’d asked me to. I wish I hadn’t been impatient and eager to reunite with Harry, because that eagerness drove me to exit the kitchen shortly after him and turn the corner, allowing me clear view into the living room.
There he stood. His arms around her thin form, his hands in her long hair and his lips kissing hers. All air was knocked right out of me. I could see how his hands gently moved against her neck, bringing her in closer and their bodies flush together. When their lips parted for a moment, I could see how he let his tongue run along his lower lip, as if he wanted to make sure he got all of her taste. And I could see him smile warmly at her, right before he leaned back in to connect their mouths once more. This sight… it burned.
I didn’t wait for him. Because I had been wrong before. My heart wasn’t truly broken until that moment, witnessing the man I loved with my everything, kissing a woman who wasn’t me. And if he wasn’t going to leave me, if he was just going to keep me close and allow my heart to shatter over and over again, then I supposed I would have to be the one to go first.
So that’s what I did. I walked back to the entryway, slid on my jacket, picked up my bag, and left the house. Left, to never come back to Harry Styles.

Why ‘NU’EST MTV Diary’ re-airing after 5 years is actually bittersweet: As it was originally cancelled because no one watched it

When I first heard the news of Nu’est’s diary airing after 5 years, it brought back some bad memories for me. I didn’t have any SNS so back then I didn’t watch it, but even watching it the first time about 4 years ago….the shows ending was very sad.

It was during Hello era, to put it in context because this was Nu’ests third comeback (despite already being 1 year old) A LOT of their young and frankly immature fans left because they hated the image change from Charisma to mature almost-ballad.The public loved it but the young fans weren’t keen. Also the fact that other boy groups had many comebacks while NU’EST were put in the basement with no activity for months, so despite being literally one of the biggest debuts in K-pop EVER, they fell off the map. Of course after that Pledis shipped them to China and Japan making things even worse, but let’s just talk about MTV diary right now.

The worst bit is that the boys were told roughly the show is canceled because no one watched it.

I was mad the staff told them roughly as if it was their fault! Other rookies in 2012 like EXO and B.A.P had surpassed them despite NU’EST selling more than both those groups combined the previous year, because of Pledis’ lack of funds and bad management.

Minhyun and the others joke around and pretend cry, but especially in JR’s eyes, you can really see the pain of no one watching their show.

You need to understand that this was almost 5 years ago, Nu’est have been struggling for so many years. Honestly, what can I say? It was one of the biggest downfalls ever, and none of it was their fault.

But JR as always probably blamed himself for the show not doing well- although now he is happy, Jonghyun still has these memories of failure as a scar on his heart.

In the press con. for his 1st variety ‘Night Goblin’ despite being the Maknae he said he’d take responsibility if the show didn’t do well. Making me have serious flashbacks to MTV diary being canceled. I hope he can give himself a break now, not everything is this fault he needs to see this.

It gets even sadder. They still have so much hope, they scream from the top of a hill their wishes to make it in 2013. Knowing how things got even worse for them after 2013 makes this really fucking hard to watch.

I just needed everyone to know that people watching and talking about MTV Diary, the show that was a failure 5 years ago, is a really big deal. I can’t think of another group who had their rise so late into their career.

Honestly, this show being viewed a lot now feels like some sort of symbol for NU’EST’s potential rise.

Dear NU’EST, I’m sorry you’ve been through more pain than most could bear, I’m sorry you didn’t hit the jackpot in 2013, 2014, 2015 or 2016.

But I am praying with all my heart you can finally hit the jackpot in 2017!

I watched Young Frankenstein for the first time a couple nights ago. (Spoilers for both YF and the original below).

Obviously, Young Frankenstein is a comedy, while the original was a tragedy. But the most interesting thing for me is how clearly Mel Brooks understood the source of the tragedy in the original.

Frankenstein is a story about (among other things) parental abandonment. Victor creates a “son” but abandons him, and does not give him a father’s love. Adam’s primary motivation throughout the book is to find some place he will be accepted and someone who will love him. But Victor fears annd hates him and can’t offer that support.

From this perspective, it’s clear that the most important scene in YF is the one where they’ve recaptured the monster and are holding him in a cell, and Gene Wilder/Frederick Frankenstein announces that he will go in “and show him that he is loved!” This is clearly a very clear, specific decision to not make his grandfather’s error.

And indeed, it works! Frederick convinces the monster that he is loved, and this support—and his willingness to risk his life to help his creation—is what turns the story from the tragedy it almost is, into the comedy it becomes.

I have to imagine Mel Brooks knew exactly what he was doing. Props to him.

Glancing down at the bottle of beer she was holding, Y/N sighed. She was starting to feel bored, her only occupation for the last five minutes being to watch the droplets slowly slide down the cold surface of the bottle. It’s been almost three hours since she had arrived at Bryce’s. At first, it was fun. She chatted with her friends, ate some junk food they had ordered and watched a movie with some of them. But now here she was, sitting on the armrest of the couch next to her boyfriend who was currently playing some sort of video game with another boy, while Jessica, Zach and Bryce were playing cards on the table nearby.

Swiftly bringing the beverage to her lips, she finished her drink and put the now empty green bottle on the coffee table in front of her before turning to look at her boyfriend – Montgomery. His eyes were focused on the TV and his brows furrowed as he quickly pressed random buttons on his controller, doing his best not to let his character die.

Y/N smiled to herself as she watched him, thinking back to the day he asked her out for the first time, almost six months ago. She had turned him down at first, because of the reputation he had regarding girls. But after a few weeks of him making efforts; leaving cute notes in her locker, walking or driving her home and even showing up at her doorstep with a bouquet of her favourite flowers, she caved in – finally accepting to have dinner at Rosie’s with the one and only – Montgomery De la Cruz. The date went surprisingly well and now here they were, five months later, still together and incredibly happy.

Y/N’s phone buzzed in her pocket, signalling that she had an incoming call. Standing up, she excused herself, even though nobody really paid attention to her since they were all concentrated on their games. She frowned at the caller ID – Justin, it read, her best friend. They’ve all been waiting for him to show up for quite a while now, why would he be calling her? She closed the glass door behind her as she stepped out of the house and walked a little further into the garden before answering.

“Hello?” She asked, glancing back to the pool house and the jocks who were playing table foot close-by.

“Y/N, thank God. You have to go to Bryce’s, Jess is there and you’re the one who lives the closest to him, and-” Justin rambled, worry filling his voice which made Y/N frown again.

“Jus,” She cut him off “I’m already there. We all are, actually. We’re waiting for you.” She explained and waited for him to say something but as seconds passed, he stayed silent. She could still hear him breathing thought, so she knew he hadn’t hung up on her. “Justin?”

“Fuck. Yeah okay, we’ll be there in ten.” He said and ended the call, leaving Y/N standing in the middle of Bryce’s garden confused as ever.

Putting her phone back in her pocket, she made her way back to her friends. Monty looked up at her as she sat next to him, taking her hand in his and bringing it up to his lips. He left a quick kiss on the top of her hand and watched fondly as a small smile formed on her beautiful face. They might have been dating for only five months but he was deeply and madly in love with that girl. She has changed him so much, for the best of course. He couldn’t help but smile back at Y/N as she slid down the armrest right into his side, wrapping her arms around him.

“Monty, come on! We’re gonna get killed again!” Matt, with whom Monty has been playing the whole evening, whined, elbowing him in the ribs to get his attention. Montgomery groaned in annoyance, pressing his lips to Y/N’s temple before going back to the game as she went back to being bored.

Only a few minutes passed before the door to the pool house opened again. Y/N turned around, a big smile plastered to her face as she knew that her best friend has finally arrived. She was beyond happy to spend some time with him, as they haven’t seen each other much these last couple of days. But her smile was replaced by a frown as soon as she saw him. Justin was clearly angry, his eyes cold, his lips pressed in a thin line. Alex was right behind him, walking slowly, his head hanging low. Bryce turned around as well as he heard the boys enter, a big smile made its way to his face.

“Justin! Alex! About fucking time you guys. These cards are getting stale. Come on, sit down.” He said, inviting both boys to join in the game.

“Actually,” Justin started, glaring at Jess who kept on avoiding making eye contact with her boyfriend. “Jess and I had this thing planned.”

“Pff, no we don’t.” Jessica scoffed, shuffling the cards for another round.

Y/N shifted uncomfortably on the couch, watching the encounter between her best friend and his girlfriend. She hadn’t even noticed that Monty had paused the game until he grabbed her hand with his, squeezing it comfortingly. The girl’s eyes briefly met with her boyfriend’s before she turned her attention back to the other couple, who was full on fighting by now. Worry filled her eyes and her heart broke a little at how wretched her best friend looked. He had bags under his eyes, his cheeks were slightly red. Y/N has known Justin for almost her whole life. Ever since they were little, they were inseparable and always had each other’s backs. They’re both very protective of each other, and know everything about each other. Y/N is one of the rare people who has seen Justin cry, she’s one of the rare people who’s always willing to help him when things go down at his house, with his mother or her boyfriends. And he helped her multiple times as well. He helped her when she was lonely, when her parents would leave for weeks because of work, when they would argue; he helped her with bad break-ups, with everything. The Justin she knew was so much different than the Justin everybody saw. So seeing him so miserable always hurt her as well.

Somehow Justin ended up sitting facing Jess, his eyes not leaving her as she continued paying no mind to him. Zach awkwardly coughed before explaining the rules of the game to the boy.

“Don’t worry, I got you stakes.” Bryce said to Justin once Zach finished talking. “Your girlfriend has been playing with my money all night anyway.” He smirked as he passed some cash to the basketball player.

“Alex, sit down!” Jessica finally piped in, ignoring her boyfriend’s glances once again.

Y/N couldn’t help but wonder why Jessica was acting so strangely tonight. Her eyes shifted from Alex to Jess, and then back to Justin. Her eyes caught Justin’s tired blue ones for a second and she gave him a weak smile, as to tell him that ‘everything is going to be okay’. But he brushed her off, his jaw clenching as he turned back to Jess who was now dragging Alex to the table. Y/N sighed, usually Justin would smile back, sometimes even nod at her as to say ‘thank you’.

“Do you want to get out of here?” Monty whispered into Y/N’s ear, his lips only an inch away from her ear as he did not want anyone else to hear him. He knew his girlfriend hated fights, and that she hated seeing her best friend like this. Y/N turned to her boyfriend smiling slightly, grateful that he was trying to get them out of that uncomfortable situation. Her lips parted as she was going to give him an answer, but she was quickly interrupted by Justin.

“Jess, what the fuck?” The boy raised his voice, glaring at Jessica who was now comfortably sitting on Bryce’s lap, a wicked smile plastered to her face. Eventually Jess faced her boyfriend, who was barely containing his anger by now.

“Your deal.” She spat coldly at him as she gave him some cards.

“I don’t wanna play fucking cards right now.” Justin growled, pushing himself closer to her over the table.

“I said, your deal!” The brunette yelled and threw a few cards in his face, causing him to jump back a little in surprise.

“Shit.” Monty said, grabbing Y/N’s hand again and tugging at it as he stood up, ready to leave before the argument turned into something worse. But he barely had time to pull her to him before Justin stood up as well and started walking towards the exit, expecting his girlfriend to follow him. But as she didn’t, he took a step back and gripped her arm, yanking her away from Bryce. Y/N gasped as she watched her best friend violently pulling his girlfriend out of the pool house.

“Let’s go.” Monty said looking at his girl with soft eyes, ready to take her as far as possible from the argument. He intertwined his fingers with Y/N’s and let her out of the little building. But once outside, things got even worse, much to Y/N’s dismay.

“Don’t touch me like that. Don’t you ever touch me like that.” Jessica screamed as she broke free from Justin’s grip. She pushed him away, making him stumble back a few feet, her eyes full of rage.

“Buddy, calm down.” Bryce said calmly, taking a step towards the couple in an attempt to lighten the tension.

“Stay the fuck away from her!” Justin yelled, approaching his former best friend, anger radiating from his tall frame.

“What is your problem, Justin?” Jessica questioned, clearly irritated by now. She looked from Bryce to her boyfriend, her bottom lip trembling.

Surprise was written over everybody’s faces, except Y/N’s. She was more concerned than surprised to be honest, as she knew that the couple was going through a rough path. She didn’t know that it was that bad, though. Y/N averted her eyes from the couple and focused on the dirty floor instead.

“Why the fuck are you here with Bryce?” The fight went on as Justin cried out, tears welling in the corners of his eyes.

Y/N didn’t want to witness the fight anymore, she had had enough. Deciding that it was better to leave, she pulled her boyfriend away from the small group. But she stopped in her tracks as Zach spoke up.

“Guys, this does not need to happen.” He said calmly, looking between the three people concerned – Jessica, Justin and Bryce.

“Maybe it does.” Alex said as he took a step forward, bringing all the attention to him. Y/N was over confused now. She did not understand a single thing, and frankly, she did not want to.

“Tell me why you care.” Jessica pleaded softly.

Blocking everything and everyone from her mind, Y/N let go of Monty’s hand, slowly making her way away from the group and out of this whole drama. She couldn’t take the screaming, the pain, anymore. It reminded her of home way too much. She took only a couple of steps before Justin’s voice caused her to freeze in the spot, and what he yelled out made her breath hitch and the blood in her veins run cold.

“Because he fucking raped you!” Silence filled the air after Justin’s outburst.

Y/N’s heart pounded in her ribcage, her breaths short as she turned around only to see Jess let out a loud sob and Justin charge at Bryce. She watched with tears in her eyes as Zach held Justin back and her boyfriend held Bryce away from the other boy.

He raped her. He fucking raped her. Y/N’s eyes landed on Bryce and for a mere few seconds his eyes caught hers. There was no emotion in them whatsoever. No guilt, no regret, nothing. His stare was cold and caused shivers to run down her spine. The girl looked away as she felt sick to the stomach. Only thinking about it made her ill. Y/N had always known that Bryce was a heartless bastard who had no respect for anyone, especially women, and treated everyone like trash, but rape? It was something she wasn’t expecting, even from him. The sound of Jessica’s palm colliding with Justin’s cheek brought her back to reality. She looked over at her best friend who was standing in the middle of the little circle that had formed, with a clear handprint on his left cheek and tears falling from his eyes as Jess pushed past him, storming away.

Y/N’s gaze followed her and without really thinking it through she ran after the girl, stumbling a little over her own feet as her mind was still somewhere else. Catching up with the brunette, she softly put her hand on her shoulder to stop her from walking further away. Jessica flinched away from the girl’s touch, her eyes sending draggers at her as she continued on her way to her car.

“Jess, hold on.” Y/N said, her throat dry and voice hoarse. Rolling her eyes, Jessica turned to face the other girl who was playing with her fingers, obviously uncomfortable with the whole situation.

“What?” She spat, a quick laugh leaving her lips as she noticed a tear sliding down Y/N’s cheek. “Why are you crying?” She crossed her arms over her chest, waiting for an answer as she played with her car keys.

“You… You shouldn’t be driving right now, not in this state of mind.” Y/N croaked out mentioning to the keys with her hand, not really knowing what to say to the girl. Contrary to popular belief, Y/N did appreciate the young brunette, she considered her a friend now; and that’s why she followed her out there in the cold night trying to help her, to comfort her.

“Oh, for fuck’s sake Y/N. Just leave me alone.” Turning back on her heel Jessica trotted over to her car. However, the other girl refused to let her go and ran up to her, swiftly taking the keys from the shaking girl before she could even open the vehicle, and then taking a step back in precaution. “What the fuck do you want?” Jessica yelled in her face, her pupils dilated because of the tears, but also because of the anger she felt at the moment. “Why don’t you go comfort your ‘oh so great best friend’?”

“Jess, let me at least drive you home.” Y/N whispered calmly, dodging her question once again. She took a step forward, expecting the girl to give up and just let her drive her home safely. What she wasn’t expecting, though, was the harsh slap that she received once she was close enough. The sound of the keys hitting the asphalt filled the air as Y/N brought her hand up to her red and already swollen cheek in surprise.

“Leave me alone.” Jessica repeated slowly, her eyes filled with tears and pain. Y/N watched with wide, glassy eyes and her mouth agape as Jess picked the keys up. She couldn’t move, couldn’t think, she just stood frozen and watched as her friend got into the car and drove away into the night.

When Monty had suggested to spend the evening with some of their friends at the pool house earlier that day, Y/N was surely not expecting things to end up like this. It was supposed to be a fun night; a group of friends hanging out together after a stressful week. A night filled with laugher, music and alcohol. But things never go as planned, do they?

Minutes passed but Y/N hasn’t moved yet. She felt quite stupid to feel so hurt by her friend’s actions, as they were totally justified – she has been raped, for God’s sake. A slap seems so meaningless compared to what Jessica is going through but it still pained her, she couldn’t stop herself from feeling this way. It brought back too many memories. It reminded her of all the times her mother would push her around when she’d do something bad. It reminded her of all the times her father would yell at her until she cried after she brought home a bad grade from school. But most importantly, it reminded her of all the slaps, punches, pinches she would receive from both of them once she grew older; and always for such stupid reasons like being caught kissing a boy, or getting home a bit too late.

Y/N was full on sobbing now, her body shaking as she sat down on the pavement in front of Bryce’s house. Her hand stroked her hot cheek softly, careful not to hurt it even more.

“Y/N?” A familiar voice brought the girl back to reality. Her eyelids fluttered, letting some tears fall all the way down her cheeks and to the ground. Monty approached the girl slowly, joining her on the ground.

“Mon…” She breathed out, her big Y/E/C eyes meeting his. The boy’s lips curved into a small smile at the nickname only she was allowed to use. He used to hate when others called him that, ‘Mon’, but it sounded so nice coming out of her lips. He brought his arm around her shoulders and pulled her to his chest, his chin resting at the top of her head. He could feel her whole body trembling and it made his heart ache. He wished he could just take the pain away.

“What happened, love?” He asked quietly, his hand running up and down her arm in a comforting manner. Y/N looked up at him, her bottom lip quivering. And that’s when in the dim light from the street lamp he noticed the red print on her left cheek. His heart thumped harder in his chest, his grip on her tightening as he placed a sweet kiss on her forehead to calm himself down.

Montgomery wasn’t angry at Jessica. As maddening as it was, he understood why she had done it. She wanted to be left alone to cope with things, but Y/N being her lovely self wanted to help her. Jessica couldn’t know that this action would cause Y/N to breakdown. She wasn’t aware of what the girl went through when she was younger, and what she’s still going through at home. But Monty was very well aware of his girlfriend’s situation. Hell, he almost beat her father up once when he noticed a few bruises on her ribs during one of their make-out sessions. He couldn’t comprehend how Y/N’s parents could do this to their own daughter, but he was glad that she had opened up to him about it. He promised himself that he’d always protect her from them, and from anyone else who would try to harm her in any way.

Leaving one more kiss at the top of his girlfriend’s head, Montgomery stood up, reaching out for her with his hand which she took after a few seconds of hesitation. It was nothing new to him, she’s always suspicious of everything when she’s in physical or psychological pain. What mattered was that in the end she’d always fully open up to him and let him help her.

“Let’s get you out of here, babe.” He said and waited until she nodded her head to lead her to his jeep.

The drive to her house was a very short one as Y/N lived only a few blocks away from Bryce. Usually the couple would hang out and spend nights at Monty’s house, as his parents accepted their relationship more than Y/N’s, but this time her parents were away for a week and an empty house was always better.

Getting out of the car Monty quickly ran to the passenger’s door to help his girlfriend out. He led her to the front door, opening it with the spare key he had.

Minutes later Y/N was comfortably sitting on her bed, her legs hidden under the soft duvet while her boyfriend rummaged through her tidy room, getting DVDs out. A light smile formed on her face as she watched him. She was so thankful to have him. He was her everything and he didn’t even know it. He was her reason to get out of bed in the morning, her reason to go to school, her reason to keep going. He just meant so much to her.

“I’ll go get the snacks.” Monty said moving towards the bed and handing Y/N the DVDs he had found. “You pick the movie.” He smiled affectionately at her.

“Forget the snacks, just come here.” Y/N pleaded, making grabby hands at him and giving him a big smile. Her eyes weren’t dull anymore, they were shining again. The smile wasn’t a forced one, it was genuine. She pouted at him as he still hasn’t moved and just observed her, making him roll his eyes at her jokingly.

“Move then.” Monty pushed the covers off Y/N’s legs only to pull them over them again once he laid down next to her. Forgetting about the DVDs, Y/N laid back next to her boyfriend, clinging to his side. He chuckled as the girl laid her head on his chest, making her punch him playfully in the stomach to make him stop moving. Her fingers danced over his clothed chest as she replayed the events of the day in her head again. A smile crept onto her face once more as she thought about how sweet and caring her boyfriend has been; not only today, but ever since they started dating. Monty’s hand moved up to her face, cupping her cheek softly. He tilted her head back to make her look at him. His heart filled with joy as he noticed her smile. God, how he loved her smile.

“You okay?” He whispered, pushing a few lose strands of hair behind her ear. Y/N leaned up, pressing her lips to his softly in a sweet kiss.

“I’m okay now.” She mumbled into the kiss, pulling away right after. Monty’s arm snaked around her waist, bringing the girl even closer to him as her hand moved to the back of his head, her fingers playing with his hair. He moved down a bit, so their faces were on the same level, his forehead pressed to hers. They stared into each other’s eyes for what felt like hours, but was actually only a few seconds as Monty’s thumb started stroking Y/N’s cheek lovingly.

“Good.” He murmured before pressing his lips to hers, but this time in a much more heated kiss filled with love and passion.

You recognize his presence before he enters the room.

As if you were just bored you look away from your cereal bowl to observe how Bucky has just entered the kitchen with Steve, the two of them chat animatedly and you find it difficult to swallow the mixture of oats and milk watching as the sweat of his neck gets lost inside the neck of the thin t-shirt he is wearing.

Suddenly you cross glances and, although that it only lasts for a second, a shudder runs up your spine. Bucky and you have thrown eachother that glance that people throw when they want to  keep a secret too valuable to raise suspicion.

Hii could you one post-first kiss where Betty and Jughead are confused as to where they stand relationship wise and Trev asks Betty out again in front of all her friends and while everyone but jughead is urging her to say yes, she's unsure?

Interesting!
***

He watched her, all the time, he was always watching her, his eyes now almost always drawn to those soft lips he had kissed less than a week ago.

For the amount of time he was staring at her, he managed to avoid her eyes at all costs, only being around her when their friends were close by. What was he supposed to say?
“Hey Betty, I know you probably don’t feel the same way but I’d like to kiss you again. All the time If that’s okay?”

Yeah. No.

His deep gaze on the back of her blonde ponytail was interrupted when Veronica squealed, pulling her phone up!

“Gossip alert. B, pay attention this ones about you.”

Betty instantly snapped her head up from her tray

“Me? What about me?” She looked nervous, fidgety. He wanted to tell her it was fine, not to worry.

He didn’t, he just dug back into his chips, keeping his eyes on the raven haired drama queen.

“Well rumor has it, that little date you went on with trev? It went much better than you told us annnndd he plans on asking you out again. Ginger Lopez heard it straight from the source.”

Betty blushed, her eyes meeting jugheads for the first time in days.

He didn’t look away this time, just stared at her. Trev? You had to be kidding me. As if one date wasn’t enough.

Who was he kidding, one date with Betty Cooper would never be enough. Not for anyone.

Kevin clapped excitedly and Valerie tossed a grape at Betty, raising a brow.

“Trev? That delicious piece of chocolate? Girl, you’re one lucky cat.”

Archie shoved her playfully

“Umm hello?”

Valerie giggled “just saying.”

He watched as Betty placed a comforting hand on Veronica’s shoulder, the ladder looking almost heartbroken. Leave it to Betty, to think of others while she was on the spot.

Shaking her shoulders and throwing Betty a grateful smile

“Anyway, you have to take him up on his offer, the winter formal is coming up and you two would look so cute together.”

Kevin nodded “for sure, I totally ship this. You two can be the new Beyoncé and jay z of this school.”

As Kevin and Veronica went back and forth, naming power couples , betty was laughing nervously

“I don’t know about that, I’m not really interested.” She threw Jughead a quick glance, trying to gauge his reaction. He tried to remain impassive, inside? He was fuming. Couldn’t they see she didn’t want to date that imbecile?

“Oh please Betty , you have to give it a try, all guys are awkward on their first dates, right Archie?” Veronica turned to Archie.

Archie shrugged lazily,

“She has a point, you can’t really go off of first dates, ya know what you should do?”

Betty shifted her shoulders “what?”

“Kiss him, it’s the only way to really know if there’s chemistry.”

Alright screw this.

Slamming his hands on the table, Jughead stood up, leveling everyone at the table with his glare.

“She doesn’t have to talk to him, she doesn’t have to go out with him and she most definitely doesn’t have to kiss him! She said she wasn’t interested, drop it.” He threatened.

Betty’s eyes were wide and she was staring at him, the hint of a smile gracing her face.

Veronica was not about to let that slide

“What does it matter to you jug? The cocky smirk was a permanent feature on Veronica’s face.

He shook his head, well here goes nothing

“It matters to me because I’m courting Betty.”

Courting?

Did he just say courting?

Oh Jesus.

Suddenly he heard the soft giggle come from his favorite blonde. Turning his head to her he looked at her with a questioning smile

She grabbed his hand from across the table and smiled bigger than he had ever seen.

“You heard the man, I’m being courted.”

The whole table erupted with questions, but Jughead didn’t care, those lips he loved so much were currently gracing him with the most beautiful smile he had ever seen.

Returning her smile he knew this was far from over.

It had been a month and you still found yourself huddled up in your duvet, trying to keep your mind off of recent events by listening to Hamilton and Divide on repeat. Said recent events included a certain boy who’s name used to make your cheeks heat up and your smile bloom wide.

Currently, the name sent a spear of repentance, grief and anguish through you, practically embedding itself in your heart so you could hear it tear in two.

When Morning Cuddles Become Morning Struggles

Member: Kang Daniel

Genre: Fluff

Warnings: Clingy Daniel (can be bad for weak hearts)

Your eyes slowly fluttered open, but as soon as you were met with the bright sunlight coming from the windows, you closed them again. You succeeded in keeping them open at your second attempt though, squinting to look at the clock. 9:32 in the morning wasn’t such a bad time to get up on a Sunday. You looked away from the clock only to be met with two big eyes staring straight into your soul, making a surprised yelp leave your mouth.

“Rooney, I swear you will give me a heart attack one day,“ you whispered to the cat, one hand on your chest where your heart was located, which was beating way quicker than it should, the other rubbing your eye in an attempt to wake up properly. The cat answered with a loud meow, moving closer to the door. It stopped there and looked back at you in anticipation. Peter appeared in the doorway as well, most likely being woken up from her nap by your voice.

A groan came from the other side of the bed, followed by the sound of sheets moving. You glanced behind yourself, smiling as you saw your boyfriend’s terrible bed head. Light brown strands of hair were sticking out in different directions, defying gravity as best as they could. Without a second thought, you reached out to pat them down, enjoying the feeling of his soft hair against your hand.

“I’m sorry, did I wake you up?“ you asked him softly, not sure if he was asleep or not. Daniel didn’t respond as he wrapped his arms around you, moving you closer, so you were pressed against him. Hundred percent awake.

“Five more minutes, (Y/N),“ he mumbled quietly, nuzzling his head in the crook of your neck.

“Alright,“ you agreed with a small chuckle, letting all the things you were supposed to do in the morning slip out of your mind. At least you could play with Daniel’s hair a bit longer.

Five minutes passed by in a blink of an eye and you attempted to stand up again, only to be pulled back by your boyfriend. When you first started dating Daniel, you never thought he would be the clingy type, but guess what? You were wrong. He never let an opportunity to hug you or kiss you slip by. Cooking? Backhug. Watching a movie? Cuddling. Goodbye and welcome back kisses? Definitely. And the list could go on and on! But the time when he was the clingiest were mornings.

“Where are you going?“ he asked, voice still husky from waking up not that long ago, while cracking an eye open to look at you, “I’m pretty sure that wasn’t five minutes yet.“

“I’m going to find something to drink, my throat feels like a desert right now. And I need to make breakfast for us. And feed Rooney and Peter, they’ve been hypnotizing me ever since I woke up, I’m surprised they didn’t jump on the bed yet,“ you motioned towards the two cats impatiently sitting by the door of your bedroom, “and it’s already way past five minutes.“

“I don’t need breakfast. And they can wait a bit longer,“ he breathed out, closing his eyes again. You tried to move away from the hug, but he had an iron grip on you.

“Daniel, you might not need breakfast, but I do,“ you whined, still struggling to get free from his grasp. Even though you would never say it out loud, you secretly enjoyed these cute little moments, your heart doing backflips in your chest whenever Daniel pulled you closer to him.

“No,“ he answered simply.

“I really need to go pee, pleeease,“ you gave him the best puppy eyes you could make, sticking your lower lip out to make it even more effective. A victory grin spread across your face as you felt the hands around you loosen up, quickly sitting up and throwing your legs off the bed. You were ready to sprint away just in case Daniel decided to change his mind at the last second, but you were too slow anyways.

Your grin disappeared just as quickly as it appeared, your body being gently yanked back, “you really thought I’d let you escape this easily? I can see through your plan (Y/N), it’s not like you didn’t try this before, you know.“

Bewildered, you stared at Daniel’s face, not able to believe that he tricked you like that. Since when did he become this mischievous?

“Cuddle with me, (Y/N)~,“ your cheeks heated up upon hearing this, his cuteness nearly killing you. It didn’t matter what he did, he always managed to make you agree to whatever he wanted. You just couldn’t reject him when he both sounded and looked like a lost puppy looking for affection!

“I’ll give you 10 minutes. Then I’m actually getting up,“ you warned Daniel, the tone of your voice completely serious. He nodded happily, his eye smile appearing for the first time today and it totally melted away any thoughts of leaving him in bed alone.

You weren’t sure if it was because being in Daniel’s arms was so comfortable or because you were still exhausted, but you somehow managed to fall asleep in those 10 minutes, much to Daniel’s pleasure and Rooney’s and Peter’s dismay. Waking up for the second time wasn’t as sweet as it was the first time though. Peter had enough of waiting. She jumped on your bed and bit your nose, quickly running away from you afterward.

“Come back you little devil!“ you cried out, using this opportunity to finally escape your bed, hurrying off to chase after Peter to scold her.

“What happened?“ Daniel shouted, clearly confused about what was going on.

You stopped at the doorway to your bedroom, a stoic expression plastered on your face. “We need to start closing the door at night. I’m not prepared to live my life without a nose like Voldemort.“

For the first time since we came down here, I could see everyone having a good time. They finally got a chance to loosen up a little.

So my mom, brother, and I have always had a really close relationship, especially since my dad died. Since I’m older, my mom has always treated me a little differently than my brother, giving my more stuff to do around the house and being a little more affectionate. And, because she had the two of us to take care of, she never really dated or went out much. As I got older, my mom started treating me less like I was her son, and more like a partner. Eventually, this, combined with our already physically affectionate relationship led to my mom and me having fewer and fewer barriers. At first it was things like her being comfortable with me seeing her in her underwear and sleeping in the same bed, and then being okay with me seeing her naked, then we eventually started showering together. Eventually, we started doing things like watching porn together, and after a little while, masturbating together. Finally, on my 18th birthday, my mom told me that she wanted us to have a sexual relationship, so we started fucking every chance we got. It was also around this time that my brother came out as bisexual.
About a month ago, I ended up taking about a week off from work so I wouldn’t lose my vacation time that I had built up, so I went home for a few days. While I was there, my mom and I had sex all the time. We also started getting more and more adventurous, trying things like pegging and anal. On the third day that I was home, my mom and I were fucking in the living room, my brother, who we thought was away at college, came home unexpectedly. My mom and I tried to explain what was going on, but as it turned out, my brother had known since shortly after we had started, and had even watched us a few times when we thought he was gone. After some more discussion, my brother admitted that he wanted to join in, but was a little nervous. We then decided that the best way to go about things was to have me and my mother continue on with what we were doing, and have my brother just join in whenever he felt comfortable.
My mom decided that the best way to get back into things was to start sucking my dick, so she got down on her knees and began to stroke me, at first with her hand, and then, once I was good and hard, with her mouth and tongue. Since my mother is a superb cocksucker, I started to lose focus on what was going on around me, as is common, until I felt something on my balls, and shortly after that, my asshole. At first thinking my mom had decided to simply diversify her oral, I looked down, but my mom still had my cock in her mouth and was sucking it like crazy. Instead, my brother had, in fact, joined in, and had decided to do so my licking my balls and ass. Now, in college, I had experimented a fair amount, and had been with about as many guys and girls, so the fact that a man was giving my a rimjob and sucking my balls was quite alright, and felt amazing. What was unexpected, however, was how talented and nimble my little brother’s tongue was. After a minute of this, my asked my brother if he wanted to suck on my cock as well, which he did. Though my mom stayed next to him at first, my brother quickly demonstrated his aptitude at giving blowjobs.
After a minute of a wonderful fraternal blowjob, I asked my brother if he wanted me to return the favor, to which he said that he did. To facilitate this, I moved down to the floor and got on my knees, when my brother asked if we could 69. Seeing no problem with this, I laid down on the carpet and let my brother position himself on top of me. As soon as I took my brother’s cock in my mouth, I could feel him tighten up, and even tasted the precum that started to seep out. Now, being an older brother, I had to give my brother a bit of a hard time, so I decided to tease him as best I could without making him cum. After a few minutes, I decided to test how far I could go, and slipped a finger into my brother’s asshole. This, apparently, was his limit, as shortly afterwards, he came down my throat like a fire-hose. Now, I’m not sure if it was something in his diet, or if it was because he’s my brother, but his cum was the sweetest I’ve ever swallowed. After he finished cumming, and likely to avoid more teasing from me, my brother swung his hips off of me, and then, as revenge, began to finger my asshole. At this point, my mother, who had been watching up until this point, came down and kissed me, taking some of my brother’s cum out of my mouth. She then told me how much it turned her on to watch her boys blow each other.
After a few more minutes of watching my brother suck my cock, my mom asked if we wanted to do something new. Knowing my mother’s mind, I immediately told her yes, and asked my brother if he wanted to feel my cock inside him. Without answering, my brother got up on his hands and knees, which I took as a yes. As I moved up behind him, my mom drizzled lube onto my cock and spread it around with her hand, before guiding me into my brother’s ass.
At first my brother was a little resistant, gasping as I slid in, but once I had my whole length inside him, he seemed to welcome me more readily. As I was fucking him, I noticed his cock was getting hard again, so I reached around and started to jerk him off, pulling him upright so I could get a better grip. After a little while, my mom got down in front of him, begging him to cum on her face. About a minute later, I felt his asshole tighten up, and then watched him shoot a huge load of cum all over our mother’s face. The sight of my mom’s face covered in my brother’s jizz, combined with tight grip of my brother’s asshole finally put me over the edge. As I whispered in my brother’s ear that I was about to cum, he pulled me out of his ass, and got down in front of me with my mom. Stroking my cock twice, he made sure I came all over his face, and even got more on mom. After that, we all made out for a bit, swapping cum back and forth, and then went and took a shower together.
we spent the rest of the time I was home fucking each other in all sorts of ways, and since christmas is coming up, and it’s just going to be me, my mom, and my brother since my grandparents are going to Europe, we’ll probably have more time to fuck then, too.

“I thought women weren’t supposed to get their periods when they were pregnant,” Harry whispered into Sam’s ear as they sat around the dining table, noting the blood stain on the back of your light wash jeans as you stood peeling carrots with Paddy at the kitchen counter, your backs turned towards them. Sam shook his head, leaning away from Harry and towards his mother. He nudged her with his elbow, disrupting her conversation with his father.

“Mum, she’s bleeding,” Sam said quietly, nodding his head in your direction. Her eyes widened as she acknowledged the bleeding and stood up quickly, the wooden chair scraping along the kitchen tiles, waking Tessa from her nap on the floor. She shrugged her cardigan off as she came up behind you and wrapped it around your waist.
“Sweetheart,” she whispered calmly in your ear. “Come upstairs, love.” You dropped the half-peeled carrot onto the chopping board, Sam standing up to take over the task as Nikki took you into her bedroom, still confused as to why you now had her cardigan around you, the knot she tied resting just below your swollen belly. “Honey, you’re bleeding, did you know you were bleeding?” She asked. The panic in your eyes told her you didn’t. “Don’t panic, love, don’t panic.” She sat you down on her bed as she fumbled in her drawers for some spare trousers for you to wear. “Put these on sweetheart, I’ve got sanitary towels in the cupboard under the sink, okay?” You nodded. “Are you feeling any pain, sweetie?” She asked. Her voice was gentle, reassuring you with her soothing tone, like your own mother’s had sounded when you were a child.

Ever since Tom had brought you home all those years ago, Nikki had warmed to you immediately, treating you as her own daughter, finally having some female company. You were grateful, since your own mother had passed away years before you’d met Tom. She filled a mother shaped space in your life, and even though she could never compare to your own sweet mother, Nikki was the next best thing.

“No, no,” you half stuttered. “I didn’t even know I was bleeding.” Your voice was shaky and your throat was dry. You could almost hear your heart pounding through your chest.
“Alright, listen,” she sat down next to you. “I’m going to drive you to the hospital okay? I’m sure it’s going to be nothing, some women bleed sometimes during pregnancy but we’ll just get you checked out okay. You haven’t had a bleed before since you found out you were pregnant?” You shook your head, biting down on your lip to try and stop the tears. Nikki smiled at you, some sadness in her eyes, as she pulled you into a hug. “It’s alright.”
“You should phone Tom,” you said, your voice coming out as a whisper.
“I will do, poppet. Go and get changed, I’ll try and get hold of him.”

There are certain things they don’t tell you when you get cheated on. Not that there were any universal secrets to the concept, but it’s something that happens in the weakest moment of someone’s life. A betrayal. An unforgivable one at that. And, it isn’t simple either.

First of all, you’ll still love them. There isn’t some magical response that you’ll suddenly stop loving that person, because you still will. The love will remain as potent as it was when you just realize that you love them. Even so, it feels as though in that moment when you find out they’ve cheated on you, it’s like you remember every moment that led you fall for them in every fine detail as if you’re brain wanted you to suffer enough. Like being in some sort of limbo, you watch the first meeting, the first dates, the first talks, the firsts… all the works. It’s etched into your brain, and as if on replay, it continues to go on and on, reminding you of what was while you suffer through the current moment. You’ll think to yourself, What could I have done to turn this around? Where did it go so wrong?

But maybe some things are out of your control.
