Just in time for her 75th anniversary this year, Wonder Woman finally arrived in cinemas last night courtesy of Warner Bros./DC and director Patty Jenkins with $11M, making it the best preview night for a movie directed by a female director. The previous record was held by Sam Taylor Johnson’s Fifty Shades of Grey which made $8.6M.
Warner Bros. had Wonder Woman estimated at a weekend opening of $65M-$75M, while tracking has been more aggressive suggesting a $90M three-day.
Wonder Woman’s Thursday night charts above the preview nights of such superhero origin stories as Doctor Strange ($9.4M), Ant-Man ($6.4M), Thor ($3.2M) and Captain America: The First Avenger ($4M), and just below Guardians of the Galaxy ($11.2M).
For years, the Burbank, CA studio has tried to bring the most famous female superhero to the big screen, with previous attempts including a 2005 Joel Silver-produced, Joss Whedon penned version; a 2003 take involving Wonder Woman’s daughter Donna Troy, the 2007 Kieran and Michele Mulroney-scripted Justice League project in which Diana Prince’s alter ego faces off with Superman, and David E. Kelley’s 2011 NBC pilot. While we’ve had previous female superhero titles in the past like Supergirl and Elektra, Wonder Woman is arguably the biggest major studio feature for the sub-genre with an estimated total production & P&A cost of $300M.
At some point, Lord of the Flies was on everyone’s reading list in middle or high school. Many have even seen the 1963 film depicting a group of boys turning savage, however, two writers, David Siegel and Scott McGehee are rebooting the classic to star an all-female cast.
Instructed by Warner Brothers to take another classic and reboot, this time around
William Golding’s 1954 novel has shown some concern, however, as long as Warner Bros. keeps to the essence of the story, this could be an interesting reversal role towards savagery.
Josie and the Pussycats with Ashleigh Asha Hayley and Camila performed tonight at the WBSDCC Party and even Madelaine joined in!! Plus spot Cole, Lili, Roberto and other Flash, Arrow,Supergirl cast in the crowd ~
Ryan Reynolds, who is known for his savvy and humorous social media posts, took to Instagram to honor a superhero — and it wasn’t Deadpool. When the actor found out that Wonder Woman box office tally reached $368 million, surpassing Deadpool‘s domestic box office of $360 million, he posted a picture of the Merc with a Mouth making a heart shape with his hands over a Wonder Woman gold chain with the mildly crass, yet sweet caption “The Merc May Be Filthier, but Her B.O. is Stronger. Congrats #WonderWoman #BoxOfficeBoss” https://instagram.com/p/BWYyVO2jV86/
The DC superhero pic starring Gal Gadot and directed by Patty Jenkins is still going strong at the box office since its June 2 release especially against the likes of Marvel/Sony juggernaut Spider-Man: Homecoming and Edgar Wright’s breakout heist pic Baby Driver. This weekend it earned $9.8 million, placing it in the number four spot in the top five. On its opening weekend it raked in $103.2 million and has since earned over $746 million worldwide, not far behind Deadpool‘s $783 million. The Warner Bros/DC movie broke records as the highest grossing live-action film directed by a woman.
I wasn’t going to report on this but I keep getting asked about it so, here is basically what’s going on -
By now you’ve probably all heard that Harvey Weinstein is accused of raping multiple women and basically being a sexual predator throughout his entire career and has been fired from the Weinstein company. If you didn’t know, he is also the man that gave Ben Affleck his big break in Hollywood (along with Matt Damon) by buying the script for and green-lighting their movie ‘Good Will Hunting’ for which they won Oscars. Reports are coming out now that Damon and Affleck knew about Weinstein’s actions and played a part in covering them up.
Since the story broke, Affleck has issued a statement condemning Weinstein but it absolutely backfired on social media. And since then multiple women have come forward accusing Ben Affleck of groping them, including Annamarie Tendler (John Mulaney’s wife) and ‘One Tree Hill’ actress Hilarie Burton who responded to his statement by posting a video of him grabbing her breast during an interview from a few years ago, at which time she was 21. Rose McGowan has also tweeted that Affleck definitely knew about Weinstein and did nothing, calling him a liar and telling him to fuck off. Rose McGowan and Affleck stared in ‘Phantoms” together, which itself was a Weinstein movie. So that is basically what’s happening so far.
A little idea I’ve had for a while. After the last Animaniacs production wrapped up, the Warner siblings get removed from the lot once the eldest sibling becomes an adult. Yakko meets up with Bugs, a colleague he’d known for years, while waiting for Wakko and Dot to get dropped off from school. Real-life issues and whatnot.
Sorry for some panels looking so much better than others. I never intended to get the whole thing nice and polished.
