war materials

OKAY, so I just read the Vanity Fair Star Wars cover story

and I have stuff to say. about Adam Driver´s statement. for reasons.

So, now we have A LOT of new fabulous photographs and names and more information, which IS AMAZING (oh god, I really hope the “long wait” for more Star Wars material is over and we start to get more and more) YAY! Im SUPER HYPER AND HAPPY ABOUT THE NEW INFO!

However, there was one itsy bitsy little parragraph that seemed inofensive at first but the more I read it, the more I look into it (read: overthink, a common practice among info-starved- Reylos) and the more worried I get for our precious Reylo ship. Also, Im usually super optimistic about Reylo bc I think it will be canon (in one way or another) by the end of the ST. However, when I read the Vanity Fair article, I got a lil bit anxious. (NOTE: Its probably because Adam is SO SO good at hiding Star Wars info and being suuper vague about everything) Also, this got long bc apparently I have a lot of feels, so if you wanna know what I thought of Adam´s words in the article read below :)

‘and then what? build what?’

‘the republic of heaven.’

the disquiet and destruction at the end of the war - the bewilderment and hurt and stab of loss, and the uncertainty of what to do next

angels cast out of their homes, the clouded mountain destroyed in the war, and an entire, lifeless world filled with beings composed of dust and light. the promise of a republic - a new home, something they fought for, spilled blood for, killed for - hovers on the horizon, shimmering like beams of light off water, but it’s just out of reach. how long will it take to establish? where will ‘home’ be for the time being? where is heaven now?

happy (late!!) birthday, @alekzandermorozova! <3

I was never wicked acquainted with the Star Wars expanded universe (now called Legends), but I just watched a video on youtube that gave a good outline of the broad history (linked here). Based on what I’ve seen, I’m glad that it’s been scrapped in favor of the new canon. It just seems like their universe went through thousands upon thousands of years of the same shit: republics rise, they congeal into dictatorships, rebellions form to overthrow the dictators, and new republics are then formed; the process repeats. The technology of the Star Wars universe hasn’t seemed to evolve in any meaningful way over the course of eons – eons upon eons. Why do we keep ending up with liberal representative democracy even though the technology probably exists in-universe to accelerate productivity to the level of post-scarcity? (Hell, what about Star Trek replicators as a totally-plausible in-universe possibility?) Over time, the structures of society ought to change.

There’s also way too much emphasis on the Skywalker and Solo lineages – Star Wars ought to treat these people as important figures in the Galactic Civil War time, then just let them gracefully disappear. Having new main characters who aren’t related to the Skywalkers (like Finn, Poe, and probably/hopefully Rey) is better storytelling, and it’s absolutely necessary so that the world doesn’t grow stagnant.

I’m probably hoping for too much, since the writers of Star Wars aren’t aiming to do world-building on historical-materialist grounds or write some colossal meditation on the human condition told through a multitude of unrelated characters. But even so, the EU/Legends did seem to have a lot of bland storytelling.

Emperor Palpatine clones!!!

Okay, guys, holy shit. How about something new???

Home from my 11th viewing of TFA and y’all…

Finn is so force sensitive it hurts

  1. When Slip marks Finn with the blood there’s DEFINITELY a force sound and then Finn stands up and seems overwhelmed. I’m convinced that moment is his awakening.
  2. Kylo looks at Finn bc he FEELS it. Bottom line.
  3. Snoke and Kylo have their “there’s been an awakening. have you felt it” convo BEFORE Rey even gets close to the saber. Also, during the assault on Starkiller Kylo is like “she’s JUST beginning to test her powers” - Rey’s powers awoke when she was resisting Kylo - AFTER Snoke feels the (Finn’s) awakening.
  4. Maz tries to get Rey to take the lightsaber and says “take it.” Rey runs. When Finn, Han and Chewie find Maz when the FO is attacking, Maz offers the saber to *Finn* and says “take it.” Not “take it to Rey” or “give this to Rey.” THE EXACT SAME PHRASE. Maz considers Finn JUST AS WORTHY and CAPABLE of wielding the saber as Rey. Then, force sensitive Maz tells a frantic Finn “you have a weapon [the saber]” and tells him “Rey and BB8 need you.”
  5. Finn DEFINITELY *hears* the cries of the people on the planets that were destroyed. It’s those cries that make him turn and he knows IMMEDIATELY that it’s the Republic.
  6. Finn actually injurs Kylo in their duel, something Rey is only able to do AFTER she stops to download the force.

The Finnrey of the whole movies is NOT subtle

  1. Rey def gives Finn the up down look when she turns around to ask his name for the first time on the Falcon. It happened.
  2. God bless John Boyega’s acting because he SOLD it in that cantina spilling Finn’s truth to Rey. All the feels tbh.
  3. Rey runs from the fight, tells BB8 to dip, but totes runs back into the fray when she sees the FO attacking and knows Finn is in danger.
  4. When they get to the Resistance base, Finn is DEFINITELY out where the pilots are landing looking for someone who can take him to the FO base bc he HAS to get to Rey.
  5. The hug. THE. HUG. Rey just THROWS HERSELF into his arms and refuses to let go like SWEET LORD!
  6. Rey runs back to Finn’s unconscious body and is legit prepared to die there with him but then Chewie shows up with the Falcon and we see the hope in her eyes and then SHE CLUTCHES FINN’S HAND & then my soul left my body.
  7. Rey literally reaches out for Finn as they take him away and put him on the vehicle to get him to the medbay and then she just stands there so lost and then is embraced by Leia–Leia who just lost Han and Rey’s afraid she’ll lose Finn THE PARALLELS PEOPLE THE HAN/LEIA PARALLELS!
  8. The forehead kiss tho

Rey & Finn are clearly CO-LEADS. This is BOTH of their stories. They BOTH are on a hero’s journey. TOGETHER. I’ll be sobbing for two years bye.

1) I’m so glad this material holds to the notion that Obi-wan Kenobi should be presented as dual-wielding as often as possible, as it is a thing of momentous beauty and badassery.

2) Inquiring minds want to know the answer to many of these questions, including, Who is looking for Obi-wan Kenobi?

(Possible answers: well, everyone at some point or another. I mean right now in Rebels lore, it’s Maul and Ezra. But the list really goes on and on. Let us not forget that during the Clone Wars alone, Obes had every single Sith/Darksider/Separatist leader gunning directly for him at some point, many to the point of unhealthy obsession. VentressGrievousMaulDooku, ahem. )

As far back as the 1960s in Britain, when anti-nuclear protesters - mainly women - set up a peace camp at Greenham Common, they turned an air force fence into a work of art with their knitting and material crafts. In fact, knitting’s association with political dissent goes back hundreds of years - to the grim days of the the French revolution. Women known as les tricoteuses (knitting women) famously sat by the guillotine in Paris during the “reign of terror” - and were later immortalised by Charles Dickens in the sinister character of Madame Defarge in A Tale of Two Cities. They would watch the executions calmly - knitting the symbolic red “liberty cap” between deaths, according to some stories. Those bonnets rouges are a symbol still worn by the figure of Marianne, the embodiment of France. The United States adopted that patriotic-yet-productive spirit during its own revolution, when women knitted clothing for soldiers during the war of independence - a wartime tradition that continued into the twentieth century.

Fireflyfish replied to your chat:

Okay you can’t just leave it at Obi-Wan and Anakin. I require a full list of the cast, starting from Padme, then Ahsoka and so on until y'all get to the clones, ALL OF THE CLONES. I hope you didn’t have anything planned for today. ^___^b

For the sake of sanity, I am fully headcanoning that only humans have daemons. So sorry Ahsoka. I’ll do as many clones as I have a good sense for. I’m using the Daemon Pages forum for most of these. Shmi, Bail, and Mon Mothma are still a bit uncertain.

ObiWan: As discussed: Clever, sly, capable, devoted. Coydog. Coyotes are known for being able to work great in pairs while still needing personal space and alone time. Dog heritage would amplify devotion and loyal traits.

Anakin: Scary loyal, loving, territorial as hell, with his own elegant grace and lethality. Also scary as fuck if pissed off. Black swan.

Padme: Will fight for your perspective, even if this leaves you somewhat ostracized or in a precarious position. Dresses well, often scruitinized. Sets high standards for self, and boasts a way with words, but doesn’t always respond well to pressure. Especially impressive when in own element and doing Your Thing. Has a love for culture and symbolism. Bit of a romantic, have a way with words, but personally guarded. Japanese Crested Ibis.

Sheev Palpatine/Darth Sidious: Sly, cunning, manipulative, ambitious, underestimated with abilities unknown. You don’t see him coming until it’s too late. African Bush Viper.

Mace Windu: Wary, slow to trust, intense and courageous, confident in own strength, occasionally arrogant, determined. American Badger.

Shmi Skywalker: Warm, maternal, devoted, enduring, stubborn streak. Initially distrustful but quick to warm up. Swiss Mountain Dog

QuiGon Jinn: Defiant, charismatic, strong, confident, may run over others in pursuit of goals, in tune with intuition. May get caught up in details at the expense of the big picture. Eurasian Eagle Owl

Bail Organa: Warm-hearted, clever, honorable, willing to take risks in order to protect others and won’t hold back when speaking up, but never aggressive. Borzoi.

Mon Mothma: Stern, stately, dignified, proud, aloof.  Snow Leopard

Count Dooku: Cunning, calculating, aristocratic, elegant, aloof, opportunistic, adaptable.  Peregrine Falcon.

Satine Kryze: Elegant and aristocratic, dignified, but hates to be treated casually or dismissed. Can be selectively deaf when asked to do something they don’t want to do or consider. Willful and independent thinker, and not above using intelligence and cunning to attain goals. Afghan Hound.

Jango Fett: Thorough, instinctive, ruthless, hidden soft side, honorable, mostly solitary. Tiger

Boba Fett:  Reasons for actions and daily life shrouded in mystery. Has no self-doubt, intimidating and fierce. Undaunted by failure and will always endure to complete a task. Can work well in either groups or alone. Competitive, and aggressive when pride or status is being threatened. Stubborn.  Siberian Tiger.

The Clones:

Honestly guys, most of the clones are canids, and a lot are wolves. Hierarchal, family-driven, loyal, follow orders, affectionate and devoted to their groups. Unless otherwise indicated, the clones can be assumed to be wolves. Identical daemons does not mean identical personalities, though! Each clone is unique and each daemon differs!

Rex: Leader and a follower, very hierarchal, very social, extremely loyal, respectful, impatient with lack of respect for authority. Family/group oriented, though initially aloof. Grey Wolf.

Cody: Another grey wolf, though Cody comes across as a bit calmer and level-headed than Rex- probably because Rex constantly has to deal with Anakin’s shit.

Kix:  Extremely protective and concerned about well-being of companions, not afraid to throw weight around if necessary to ensure said well-being. Central Asian Shepherd Dog

Fives: Warm and kindhearted, noted for bravery and self-sacrifice. Vigilant, commands respect from others, not afraid to speak up when friends are in trouble, and occasionally too nosy for own good. Mioritic Sheepdog.

Waxer: Might look slightly intimidating at first, but wouldn’t hurt a fly without good reason. Loving and gentle, with a particular soft spot for kids. A natural follower who will literally take a bullet for those they love. American Mastiff.

Boil: Less good with kids, but thrives in harsh conditions. Less vocal. Indian Wolf.

Echo: Eye for detail and stickler for the rules, sometimes has trouble adapting. Prefers quiet to the front lines, but still fierce and loyal. Precise and meticulous, eager to please. Wirehaired Pointer Griffon.

99:  Friendly and loves everyone, just wants to help. Gentle and eager, extremely devoted. Very intelligent, but sometimes willfully contrary. Samoyed.

Cut: An individual, more solitary but content to have a few close friends. Standoffish with strangers, greatly affected by past experiences and surroundings. Golden Jackal.

Slick: Less social than others like self, wary and secretive but still devoted. Has issues with lack of self-identity- and sometimes engage in relationships that turn out to be very detrimental. Red Wolf.

I feel you on the whole drarry being hard to read lately because of everything happening politically and socially. Like a few years ago, I realized that if I knew Draco in real life I would seriously hate him because of his blood purity shit and everything but I adore him as a fictional character??? I know fantasy doesn't equal reality but that stuff is just way too similar to what's going on lmao every time I read something that glosses over Draco's racism now I can't do it

Yeah, same p much. I would find him really hard to forgive.

On one hand, that’s so much of what can make drarry fic interesting. How on earth can you come back from that? What can one do to earn forgiveness? What would even inspire someone to seek it?  The ethical questions underpinning H/D fic can be extraordinary and rich and amazing. Which in turn can make for amazing, moving, compelling stories.

It’s just that a lot of people ignore them? I think (and some other v wise folks have suggested to me) that that’s worse on tumblr, and I think there’s something to that. The prevelance of aesthetics and fan art and the popularity of fluffy headcanons make it seem at times like everyone’s forgotten where they came from and what their history is about, and how deep and really really justified and well-founded their mutual antipathy was.

Like:

  • Draco tried to kill Harry’s teammate
  • Draco almost accidentally killed Harry’s best friend while trying to intentionally kill Harry’s mentor
  • Draco didn’t intervene in the torture of Harry’s other best friend
  • Draco was a bully and a jerk, and was protected and motivated by his privilege in doing that
  • Draco genuinely believed that Harry and his best friends were inferior on account of their blood status and/or class status
  • Draco faked an injury that almost resulted in the death of one of Harry’s mentors’ pets
  • Draco’s father did something that led to deep psychological trauma for Harry’s best friend’s sister/Harry’s girlfriend
  • Draco’s aunt killed Harry’s godfather
  • Harry put Draco’s father in jail
  • Harry tried to upset the larger sociopolitical order that assured Draco’s privilege (y’all know how privileged people panic and lash out about that)
  • Draco and Harry were on opposite sides of a war

Those are not things you can gloss over. I know they were children at the time, but still. Those are not things you forget. Those are not things you ignore. Those are not things that two people could fall in love with without addressing. They aren’t.

And yet.

So when people do - which is a lot of the time - I have a lot of trouble reading it too, and it’s become so common that I’m pretty much taking a wholesale break from it.

(and I don’t know that I can even begin to verbalize how it feels to run across a great larry fictional war AU which, in the notes, lists among its influences “a certain feeling of nostalgia for old school HP fics,” and to realize that, as hard as I’d looked in HP, I can’t find anything new like that there - that other fandoms, with other source material, are doing a better job of this than we are.)

It’s not that I don’t want to read drarry. I do; part of why I’m taking a break is so that it doesn’t start to feel like homework, and I can pick back up, probably with draco tops, with a bit of space and perspective and less frustration.

But for Merlin’s sake, y’all.

Don’t forget who these characters are.

Can we stop with all the fanwar/shipper war and just be happy with our own ship?

On Jedi and Daemons (HDM chat)
  • silvergryphon: that coydog does need to be someone's daemon tho
  • themikeymonster: I was thinking Obi tbh, because I've been trying to shove a Coyote on him for a while
  • but she is so gorgeous and intelligent tho???
  • you would not be surprised if she started speaking
  • silvergryphon: Coyote for ObiWan, huh? That's an interesting idea. I agree she'd be gorgeous and clever and probably just as given to snide commentary as her person
  • silvergryphon: Anakin's is something loyal and devoted and extremely territorial.
  • silvergryphon: NGL my brain jumped first to 'swan'
  • themikeymonster: Yeah!!! Coyotes tend to be communal animals, and they're VERY clever and VERY fearless (even moreso when you get Coydogs, just as with Wolfdogs). She wouldn't be very fearsome at first until the feral side showed :>
  • themikeymonster: OMG
  • SWANS ARE AWEFUL
  • Can't swans break bones with their wings? or is that geese
  • I think it's swans
  • also they mate for life, right?
  • Amazing
  • silvergryphon: Swans will mess your shit up if you come near their babies, they can break human arms with their wings, and I believe they mate for life
  • silvergryphon: Also, some are gay
  • just gonna leave that out there
  • themikeymonster: excellent
  • silvergryphon: gay swan pairs will sometimes make a temporary threesome with a female to make eggs, then chase the female off
  • themikeymonster: OMFG
  • That's the most scandelous thing i've ever heard
  • im cackling
  • silvergryphon: I know right
  • specifically that's black swans
  • silvergryphon: ANAKIN'S DAEMON IS 100% a BLACK SWAN NOW
  • themikeymonster: yeah im affraid so
  • im laughing so hard rn
  • themikeymonster: Also I was having hilarious thoughts about before Ani settled, that Obi's Coy(whatever) would end up plucking Ani's daemon off the ground and carrying her off. That Ani's daemon might actually shift to something small to be carried.
  • themikeymonster: you know, when the kid is being unruly
  • silvergryphon: YES I LOVE IT

Do you know any good THoB fix it fics, but specifically comfort still taking place at Baskerville *coughcough post scene in front of the fire place cough* Tysm!!!!!!

Hi Nonny! Not a whole lot of fix-its… A lot more angsty than anything, but I do have a few taking place during and inspired by THoB!

THOB / POST-THOB

Mentality by Cumberbatch Critter (T, 1k+ w. || Friendship, Hurt / Comfort) – It was weird. But Sherlock was having a panic attack. Re-write of the Hounds of the Baskerville scene. Doctor!John.

What Sherlock Missed by chappysmom (K, 1k+ w. || Friendship, Fluff, Silly Ending) – Maybe Sherlock didn’t see everything he should have seen at Baskerville.

Baskerville After Dark by Ttime42 (T, 1k+ w. || Friendship, Humour, Bed Sharing, Fluff, Pre-Slash) – John and Sherlock have to share a bed at Baskerville. Snippets of their time at Dartmoor.

Equilibrium by augustbird (M, 12,351 w. || Jealous then Worried Sherlock, Sick John) – At Baskerville, John is infected by a virus that turns him into a genius. But when the infection progresses into neurodegeneration, it’s a race against time to save himself. Flowers for Algernon fusion.

Duvet (green) by Mazarin221b (G, 2021 w. || Post-HoB, Revelations, First Kiss, Sherlock’s Mind Palace) – Sherlock recalibrates and restructures his mind palace so it looks like 221b. What he chooses to put in John’s room is a bit of a surprise, and a revelation.

PTSD / NIGHTMARES

Living In Fear by Lady Sam Mallory  (T, 4k+ w. || H/C, Angst, Post-THoB, Nightmares/PTSD) – Missing Scene for Hounds of the Baskerville. John suffers from massive PTSD episodes upon their return from Dartmoor.

In The Wake by Ambikai (K+, 2k+ w. || Post-THOB, H/C, Friendship) – After returning from Baskerville, Sherlock and John deal with the aftermath: unsure of where they sit with one another.

After the Bombs by VampirePam (T, 3k+ w. || Angst, H/C, PTSD) – In which the drugs Sherlock used to dose John trigger a severe episode of PTSD. When terrors old and new cause John to fall apart, Sherlock must rectify his mistake and pick up the pieces.

Afghanistan in Baskerville by Amaya Ramiel (K+, 4k+ w. || Hurt/Comfort, PTSD) – What if John hadn’t seen the hound when Sherlock trapped him in the lab? What if instead, his very real nightmares of the war had materialized all around him? Trapped and drugged, John can’t tell what’s real and what’s not. How will Sherlock react?

Peaky by mattmetzger  (K+, 1k + w. || Post-THoB, Friendship, Angst, PTSD / Nightmares) – A nightmare is nothing but a brain processing recent events, and having a bad light to do it in. It will run its course. So why can’t Sherlock just leave?

ALTERNATE UNIVERSES

Too Visible by chappysmom (K+, 23K+ w. || Friendship, AU, John’s Got an Ability) – With his gift of being invisible, John has always worried about being locked away in an experimental government lab. Baskerville is quite literally John’s worst nightmare—and the hound has nothing to do with it. It’s all Sherlock’s fault, but will he realize that? Sequel to Invisible and Still Invisible, Prequel to Invisible Once More

You Remind Me of a Man by columbine-and-asphodel (M, 17k+ w. || Sci-Fi, H/C, AU) – Sherlock is a living human experiment. John, an android medicinal ethics monitor, reviews the place that’s been experimenting on Sherlock and is thrown by what he finds. Inspired by but no spoilers for The Hounds of Baskerville.

The Curious Adventure of the Drs. Watson by ShinySherlock (M, 40,883 w. || Body Swap, Time Travel, Magical Artifacts, Victorianlock, ACD-BBC Fusion) – What if ACD Watson and BBC Watson switched places… John finds a journal and goes on an adventure that he never asked for.

ON MY MARKED FOR LATER LIST

(I haven’t read these yet, so read at your own risk.)

I’ve Just Got One by sarah_jehan (G, 1797 w. || Johnlock Freeform, Fluff) – Slightly-altered episode insert in which John simply walks away from Sherlock after the “friend” in The Hounds Of Baskerville spiel and Sherlock watches him leave instead of going after him and it’s a bit fluffy.

The Innkeeper’s Question by orphan_account (M, 1735 w. || Fluff) – This is set in Season 2, episode 2 of Sherlock. A bit fluffy, a bit serious, but overall lots of fun.

Fifteen Years by Bitenomnom (NR, 1209 w. || Marriage, Retirement, Kissing, Character Death, Introspection) – A lot changes in fifteen years, and a lot doesn’t. Fifteen years before Baskerville, John wanted a dog. Fifteen years before Sherlock was in court, Sherlock was in court. Fifteen years before John met Sherlock, John wasn’t interested in the violin. Fifteen years before he met Irene Adler, someone asked Sherlock out for dinner. Fifteen years before Sherlock kissed John, Sherlock kissed John. Part 46 of Mathematical Proof {{I’ve read a few stories in this series, and it’s been very enjoyable, so this will probably be a good one too.}}

Memento by audentes_fortuna_iuvat (E, 25,050 w.+ WiP || Angst, Character Study, Sherlock’s Past, Friend to Lovers) – Sherlock remembers flashes of time the way lightning strikes and thunder sounds during storms: suddenly and overwhelmingly. Some memories flood back like the opening of a dam, others yet like a broken tap, slow and steady and weak. And at the center of them all lies John Watson, the axis mundi of Sherlock Holmes’ life. Time floats on with John, and Sherlock starts to realize he’s dividing his life into two categories: Pre-John and With-John. As the axis turns harder and faster for Sherlock, he feels his life both coming together and unraveling at the same time. And soon, Sherlock finds himself in his greatest deduction yet, that of his mind and his heart, and finally sees how a self-professed ‘high functioning sociopath’ falls in love.

Silhouettes by allonsys_girl (E, 28,585 w. || Fluff, Bed Sharing, Angst, Drinking, Grief, Infidelity, Drug Use, POV John, Parentlock) – Sherlock and John find comfort in each other’s arms, but as ever with these two, it’s not your typical relationship. It’s fluffy at the beginning, gets deeply angsty in the middle, gets porny at the end. {{I think Baskerville is just briefly mentioned in the first chapter, it was tagged with THoB.}}

The Return to Baskerville by PeaJay (E, 31,343 w. || Angst, Torture, Est. Rel., John Whump, Case Fic, Smut, Graphic Violence) – Sherlock and John return to Baskerville to have another look around. They find a lot more than they bargain for. Especially John, who is kidnapped and brutally tortured. Graphic violence.
Part of the Mind the Gap series but can be read as a stand alone fic. Part 2 of Mind the Gap {{Been putting this one off because of the violence I think}}

Still of the Night by SoonerOrLater (G, 3717 w. || H/C, Angst, PTSD, Friendship) –  Short post-ep for Hounds of Baskerville, John and Sherlock talk a bit and deal with the fallout of the past few days, while Sherlock worries about the future.

The Naked Time by greyamber (T, 1217 w. || Pre-Slash, John’s Sci-Fi Obsession, Unhappy Ending) –  “John Hamish Watson was a hopeless Science Fiction fan, not that he could help. He had grown up with the Doctor, after all. Thank you very much.”

In Which There is a Row at Baskerville by thequeergiraffe (T, 944 w. || Pre-Slash) – John and Sherlock discuss the nature of their relationship. Can be read as a standalone. Part 20 of The Spaces In-between

Hope these are satisfactory! Please, if any of y’all have suggestions, particularly the one that Nonny is looking for, feel free to add them!

Padmay, Day 2: Favorite TPM quote

« It’s beautiful. But I don’t need this to remember you by. »

Being an anidala shipper, it’s only natural for me to like this moment between Padmé and Ani. But it’s not only that.

The moment is like magical: we’re in between worlds (liminal space of a sort), we don’t know what time it is, but Jar Jar is asleep and we can imagine that most people on board are, since Padmé ventures alone to the room to listen to the message, as the queen and not simply a handmaiden. It’s a moment of despair. She hears a calling for help, to which she can’t answer — worse, she could, but it would compromise the help she still hopes she can send. She doesn’t know how it will all enfold, if she will actually be able to do something for her people. She is not sure she is in power to end their suffering.
When she turns her head, Anakin is looking at her, silent. They could then talk about what just transpired about her real identity, but instead, they share their feelings: space is too cold for Anakin, Tatooine is too hot for Padmé. And it’s a moment frozen in time in which they both make the other know that they are here.
Anakin concretely proclaims it by giving his hand-made Japor Snippet. That’s when Padmé says « It’s beautiful. But I don’t need this to remember you by. »

First, there is her tone, the rhythm and the sound of her voice. It’s very soothing, and she is like a big-sister, but at the same time, there is some kind of joking, and something very intimate, and a promise. An it’s all the comfort Anakin needed.
Yet, her sentence is not exactly grammatically shaped for that comfort: because there is a « but », and you can expect something not good after that but. Plus, the positive part (« It’s beautiful. ») is shorter than the negative (« I don’t need this … »). Yet, Padmé still makes her negative sentence a caring one. And when the negative is love, everything is alright.
Because it is a promise of something — care — that will remain unconditionally.

Also, remembrance is a really important theme for Padmé.
« Do you remember your mother? » This is the very first time we hear about her. When Luke asks his sister if she remembers their real mother, that he himself has no memory of, even if he has so much of her in him. Before he goes to confront their father, this is the path he walks on to make the link between himself and his sister— the memory of the person who gave them birth.
And Padmé is forgotten. Leia can only give a vague description, and Luke did have to clarify « your real mother » for her not to think about Breha Organa. Luke repeats again and again the name of Anakin Skywalker, but we don’t see him looking for his mother’s.
At the end of the Prequel Trilogy, Padmé is the only one of the main trio who dies and is buried. And her last words were exactly what she had promised: she remembers Anakin.

We see Ani giving her a present, but she does too, though nothing material. And in that sentence, we hear that Padmé is one to give and give freely.
