Walter’s Falls - Ice Wall There’s a great little inn up the Bruce peninsula in the little town of Walter’s Falls. A retreat for hikers, snowmobilers and anyone who wants to get away from it all for a day or two. The Bruce trail runs right past it and, if you don’t mind the cold, it’s a great spot for a winter’s hike. This shot was taken while rambling off the trail around the side of the escarpment. This isn’t “the falls” that gives the town it’s name, but it’s an impressive wall of ice just the same.

I love a winter hike. The crunch of snow underfoot, the chirping chickadees overhead, there’s something about the stillness that I find calming and comforting. I always get a sense that I’m walking through a wilderness that is sleeping, waiting for the sun to come and wake the world up.

Here’s a song for your winter walks, Fool for Love by Lord Huron.
