walking shelter

the idea of just adopting a shelter dog without thinking about breed is so harmful. Like, there are people who just walk into a shelter and say “this one is cute I’ll take it” and then pat themselves on the fucking back because “adopt don’t shop” but then be 100% unprepared for that dog’s breed specific needs. A Herding dog will be energetic. A Bull-breed will have a high chance of dog reactivity. A Sighthound will have a prey drive. A Nordic breed will be vocal. These are all things you need to think about BEFORE you look for a dog. Don’t go into an adoption blind, rescue or not you are doing yourself and that dog no favors.

Can’t Afford the Vet?

You have probably heard the phrase “if you can’t afford the vet, you can’t afford the pet” and it is true to a degree. Pet ownership doesn’t stop after the purchase of the animal and it is my personal opinion that getting a pet when you know you cannot afford vet care is selfish.

There are of course many people who fully intend on taking their pet to the vet but life happens: they lose their job, family members get sick, the pet gets hit by a car, etc. What do these people do? The absolute best thing to do is be prepared as much as possible. Get pet insurance! For something like $25 a month you can get your pet insured and it will cover most illnesses and accidents. Get a savings account. Put money away every month, as much as you can afford and use it only for vet visits. If your dog gets hit by a car or needs emergency surgery it can easily cost $5,000.00 so try to have that much in savings ready to go.

Go see the vet at least yearly. I cannot stress enough how much preventative care does exactly that: prevents illnesses. I have caught heart disease, cancer, retinal disease and more just doing annual exams. The owners had no idea their pet was ill. By taking care of these things before they got worse these owners saved thousands of dollars. Vaccines are important too, especially for puppies and kittens. A parvo vaccine may be $20, treating parvo can cost into the thousands.

Understand that you don’t have to do everything your vet recommends, but also understand the repercussions of declining. For me personally, I cannot sleep at night knowing I didn’t offer every single pet owner the very best care. Who am I to judge what people can afford? On a more selfish level, if I didn’t offer the best care and a pet died or became ill and the owner filed a board complaint, I could be fined or even lose my license.  This is true for all vets. So please understand we must offer the best care and at least give you the chance to understand what you are declining. If you do decline testing or medication, understand that this limits what we can do for you. I had an owner decline testing a lump on his cat but he became very angry when I couldn’t tell him what the lump was. We offer tests for a reason. Also understand that sometimes if you decline care your only option is euthanasia. People do not like it when vets suggest euthanasia but sometimes this truly is the only other option. It isn’t right to send an animal home to die a slow and painful death simply because the owner cannot afford treatment but refuses to do the right thing and euthanize.

Also understand that wasting time on Google and pet care forums wastes precious time and money. I can cite numerous cases where an owner spent months or more researching and trying things on their own and it was something a vet could have fixed in a single visit. By the time the pet comes to us it is too late. By all means get care advice from other trustworthy sources but if an animal is ill, the internet is not your friend.

I know that there are those out there that will say they cannot put anything in savings, they cannot afford pet insurance, and they cannot even afford basic vaccines. To you I say, don’t get a pet. It just isn’t right to take a living thing into your home knowing you cannot provide it the care it needs. If you want that connection with an animal go volunteer at a shelter and walk dogs, babysit friends pets, there are lots of other ways to have animals in your life without owning one.

Usually when you write a story you start with the plot idea, and then you proceed with the characters and the setting, right? Well, I did the exact opposite, and now I've got very defined characters and settings, and absolutely no idea about what am I supposed to do with them. Do you have any advice for me? <3 (P.S. English is not my first language, if anything is incorrect, I'm sorry ^^;) (P.P.S. I love your blog <3)

Hello, thank you for sending a message.

You don’t have to create a story by it’s plot. There’s no right or wrong in writing, no rules, just techniques (that might or might not work for you). Once, a friend of mine said: to write a novel, you create a set of characters, and you throw them in a fictional world to fend for themselves.

At first, I was a bit shocked.

But my friend explained: All characters, no exception, are just trying to fulfill their needs. Do you know the Maslow’s hierarchy of needs?

Characters must be somewhere in that pyramid, from wanting basic needs like food and shelter (The Walking Dead, for example) to needing success and personal growth (Eat Pray Love, for example). Take Romeo and Juliet for example, two teenagers estranged from their families. They need belongingness and love (third in the pyramid), so they bet their own lives to get that. This is the beauty of using the Maslow’s hierarchy as guidance… it makes plot so clear and obvious.

My advice is: place your main character in the pyramid.

Knowing what your main character needs, go on and create a plot on how they will fulfill that need, depending on how desperate they are to achieve it (the lower the need is, the more desperate characters must be). And that’s it.

By the way, don’t worry, English is not my first as well. :DD

11. “Why are there four dogs in our house? We don’t own four dogs. We don’t even own one.”

Sebastian Stan was a hardworking guy. Over the last year and a half, he gotten booked on more movies than ever before. At first it was a tad overwhelming, but it was his passion. He absolutely loved what he did.

He worried that the more traveling he did, the more of a strain it would be on your relationship. The two of you had been together for almost three years. You met because of a mutual friend who had a feeling that the two of you would click. Your friend had been right.

It started off slow but the relationship picked up speed when you both realized that there wasn’t anyone else on the planet that you’d rather be with. You felt like you knew absolutely everything about him and he felt the same about you.

We Are Not Getting All The Dogs.” Harrison strictly said as you walked around the animal shelter hand in hand.

You turned around and gave him a pout, looking into his blue eyes. “Pleeeeeeease.” You begged.

“You sound like a child.” He rolled his eyes. “You can barely take care of yourself, (Y/N). How can you possibly take care of ten dogs.”

“There are more than ten dogs here, Haz.” You sassed. “And I can perfectly take care of myself. I take care of you and Tom all the time!”

“My other point. We’re never home. We’re always traveling with Tom, too.” He reasoned.

It was your turn to you roll your eyes at your boyfriend. “We can take the dog with us. Tom misses Tessa all the time. And when we can’t, we can ask Tom’s folks to take care of him or her like they do with Tes.” You stood on your tip toes and pecked him on the lips. “Please, Harrison. I really want a dog to cuddle with.”

“You can cuddle with me.” He argued.

“You aren’t adorable.” You sassed again, but instantly regretted it.

“Wow,” he scoffed. “I was almost on board with getting three dogs, but since you said that, we’re leaving.” He playfully said, grabbing your waist and began to drag you away.

“No!” You gasped. “Harrison! Wait! Look!” You said, pulling away from him and kneeling down in front of a cage with the most adorable puppy in the world.

Harrison dramatically rolled his eyes and knelt down beside you. He looked inside the cage and his mouth dropped. Of course, he had only been joking with you. He was going to allow you to pick a dog, but you being the animal lover that you were, chose about fifty dogs and he knew you both couldn’t take care of all of them.

But this dog was absolutely, hands down, the sweetest little thing the two of you have ever seen. A volunteer came by and asked how the two of you were doing. “How old is this little guy?” You asked, sticking your fingers inside the cage to caress its fur.

“A couple weeks old, actually. He’s our newest addition. We found him in a box in the middle of the street all on his own.” The volunteer explained. “So far no one’s really been interested in him. Which is really unfortunate. He’s the sweetest. Would you like to meet him officially?”

You turned to look at your boyfriend, ready to plead for the dog, but one look at Harrison and you knew you didn’t have to. He was on board with getting this little puppy.

As you played with the little guy in a play pen, Harrison was getting the adoption finalized and officiated. “No kids, yet, huh mate?” The volunteer joked. “Start small with an animal first. Good idea. So… how long?”

“Pardon?” Harrison asked.

“How long have you and your missus been together?” The volunteer clarified.

Harrison blushed before chuckling. “Well.. uh… we aren’t married…”

“But you will pop the question eventually, right, mate?”

Harrison looked back at you, letting the little puppy lick your face as you laughed. He turned back to the volunteer. “Yeah, definitely. I would love to marry her.”

The Tenth Floor pt2

Min Yoongi had gone through 34 secretaries in the past 24 months, and each one of them left in tears. This fact alone should have warned you against taking the job, but the pay was too good to pass up. Surely you could put up with a billionaires temper-tantrums, right?

Reader x Yoongi

Genre: Fluff, humor, probably some angst

Warnings: Strong language at times, maybe some slight smut eventually

Part 1

All you wanted was a decent paying job so you could pay off your school loans… And fix your car, pay your rent, pay your credit card bill, and maybe afford to eat. Was that really too much to ask? You thought it must be, because the only way you were going to get that was working for Min Yoongi, who had been yelling incoherently for the last hour.

You didn’t bother to knock on his office door at first, fairly sure that you didn’t want to know whatever it was that he was angry about. He was on the phone, you knew that much, but with who exactly was a mystery.

“So, how’s the first day going so far?” Seokjin sauntered over, taking a seat on your desk where you had been sorting through a stack of papers Yoongi had informed you were his schedule. “Sort it, fix it, memorize it,” Yoongi had said when he dumped the pile of papers in front of you earlier that day.

“Splendid.” You muttered, picking up a sticky note with almost unreadable handwriting on in. Apparently Yoongi had an appointment with someone on the twentieth of that month, but the name was impossible to make out.

“The first day is always the worst, keep your head up, kiddo.” He reached forward as though to flick your nose, but you swatted his hand away.

“I’m not a kid, and I’d appreciate it if you refrained from calling me one.” You knew it was important to at least try to stay on Seokjins good side, but the conversation from that morning still annoyed you to think about it.

“Good, a kid wouldn’t last two days in here, and I need you to last a month.” Seokjin looked satisfied, so you turned your attention back to the sticky-note. You were fairly sure it said the appointment was at three o’clock, but you were still deciphering the name.

“Does this have something to do with Jimins bet?” You asked, and Seokjin grinned.

“Smart, I like it.” He winked at you just as you heard glass shattering in Yoongi’s office. “If you last two weeks, I get ten thousand. If you last a month it’s doubled.” Seokjin informed you happily.

You tried to ignore the way he talked about $10,000 the same way you might talk about $20. To your relief, the phone on your desk buzzed before you had to respond to Seokjin, and Yoongi’s voice came through the intercom. “My office. Now.”

Soekjin actually looked concerned as you stood. “A huge business deal was just canceled, it’s going to cost the company millions. He’s not going to be easy to deal with.” He cautioned. “You might want to avoid him if at all possible.”

“Thanks for the warning, but I don’t think I have a choice.” In a way, you were glad for a way to escape. You didn’t really want to go in there—you didn’t have a death wish—but you couldn’t think of a nice way to tell Seokjin to go away.

“See you later.” Seokjin gave you a small salute as you made your way over to the office door. It had gone strangely quiet within, and when you heard no response you decided to walk in anyway.

“Sir?” You peaked around the door to see Yoongi sitting at his desk, tapping his fingers slowly. He didn’t acknowledge your presence, so you stepped further into the room, closing the door behind yourself. “Mr. Min?” You tried again, and his eyes snapped to yours so fast it made you jump, and his tapping fingers stilled.

“Don’t you knock?” He demanded, and you suddenly wished you were still sitting at your desk with Seokjin still bothering you again.

“I did knock.” You said, trying to keep your tone polite. Yoongi didn’t look convinced, leaning back in his chair.

“Are you talking back?” He raised an eyebrow. You wanted to point out that he was talking to you the way a parent might to an unruly teen, but you bit your tongue.

“No sir, just answering your question.” You fixed your expression into something you hoped was unreadable.

Yoongi rolled his eyes, resuming tapping his fingers on his desk as the stared at the ceiling. For a moment, you thought that in a different universe, where Min Yoongi wasn’t a complete asshole who fired people for humming, he might have been rather attractive. He carried himself with an ease and confidence that few possessed, and you would be lying if said he didn’t have a nice jaw line. You wondered what he would look like in street clothes—not that he looked bad in a suit, quite the opposite in fact. But you thought he would look good in jeans and a t-shirt; it would certainly make him look more approachable.

You shook yourself quickly, reminding yourself that he was your boss and that not only were such thoughts entirely inappropriate, but that you really needed to focus on not getting fired.

“What?” Yoongi demanded after a moment.

“Sorry?” You could feel your cheeks heating up—was it possible he knew what you were thinking? No, of course not. But the way he was looking at you was like he could see right through you to your soul, and you didn’t much care for it.

“What do you want?” Yoongi clarified, and you let out a breath you hadn’t even realized you were holding.

Terribly quite mornings where you’d wake up to him singing while cooking, or making your tea. The worst of it was the cold bed, the fwwling of it never becoming as warm as ir should be, at least thats what you thought. So today you went out on the town, to get away from the quiet and cold apartment. As you walk down the street an animal shelter caught your eye, making you freeze for a moment. Without thinking you wallked in to be greeted by kind workers, who held smiles on their faces.

“Welcome, what type of pet are you looking for?” One spoke, a brid on her shoulder making you smile as you remove the mask tou had placed around your face. It hangs off your ears as you shrug, “Cat or dog person?”

“Both..but my boyfriend is more of a dog person.” You mumble whilr running your hand through your hair. “It’s kinda gift for him, kinda a gift for me.” She smile while wavung for you to follow, before she walks into a hall with Dogs she let the brid climb onto another workers shoulder.

“Puppy, young adult or a older anaimal?” She asks you, while walking into the hall. Cennal after cennal no one dog tryly stuck out.

“Don’t care really.” You mumble when you walk past a single black and white puppy. The puppy’s ears where up, and head tilited to the side. “This one…can I look at this one?” You ask making the women smile.

“She’s the last of her litter, even her mother was adopted.” She says opening the cage with a lead leash. She slipped it over the puppy’s head and walked her out. “Follow me,” she says making you smile as you do so. “We like for potential owner have a one on one experience.” As she said that she opened a door to a small room, with toys and two chair. As she let the small black and whie puppy go it runs right to you.

Jumping up and down, the wiggling dog made you laugh as you bent down. Laughter leaving your lips as she licks at your face. “If you get her, know since she’s a collie mix she’ll need to go on walks.and play around a lot.” You smile and nod as you pick her up.

“Where do I sign?”

As you walk out of the shelter, dog walking next to you with a bland brown collar and leash. You couldn’t help but smile as she stay at you side. Eneyering a per store, you buy a new collar, which was a black with silver paw prints on it and a matching leash. Toys that she had personally picked out and brought to you had also gotten food, bowls, bed, puppy pads and trainning treats. Soon cane the name tag, standing there you couldn’t help but laugh. “Molly?” The puppy doesn’t reacted, “Dolly?” No resction, “Polly?” At this the puppy’s tail beging to wag as she stand up. “Polly the Collie.” You mumble to yourself as you got the tag ready.

When you got home you checked your phone:

12 text messages from Kookie

3 miss calls from Kookie

Frowning you pressed and called him, he picked up on the first ring making your eyes widen as you place a puppy pad down. “Baby?” You ask when you hear a sharp intake of breath. “Baby? Kookie?” You whisper opening your back door, letting Polly walk into you ‘backayrd’ area. Another intake of breath and a sob making you cover your mouth. “Talk to me.” You whisper as he take a soft breath. “Okay you know what. Just breath, okay? Breath. In, one, two, three and out.” You mumble him following your instructions. After a few minutes he speak up.

“I miss you.” He whispers making you sigh as you sit down. Polly watching you as he keep talking. “The guys went out, and I stayed behind to practice the routine again with Jimin-Huyng and I couldn’t get this move righr. Something that I’ve done multiple time, and I started to freak out and I got so mad.” He mumbles, you stay quiet as you wait for him to continue. “Jimin-Huyng tried to claim me down and he just couldn’t do it. Not like you. You do this thung where you run your hand through my hair and press a kiss to my neck as you hold me close to your ches. I message you and you didn’t reply, and I freaked out wven more because you always have your phone on you and I thought you got hurt or something. And when you didn’t pick up my calls I just went into this…thi-”

“You got a panic attack.” You whisper as Polly jumps inro your lap, you hear him let out a breath. “It’s okay Kook, you’re okay I’m okay. Everything fin-Polly no!” You grumble as the puppy tries to chew and pull your hair.

“Pollu who’s Polly?” He questions you, making you mutter a curse word or two aa you pet the dog.

“A Collie.”

“Named Polly?”

“Why do you have this Collie named Polly?” He asked making you smile.

“I adopted her today….thats how I deal. You get panuc attacks and I get puppies.”

“Puppies?! You adopted more than one?”

“No, but possible cjance in the future.”

“I’m going go and have abother panic attack.” He says laughibg making you join aa you take a breath in, as you stand, Polly in yoyr arms and phone between your shoulder you walk inside.

“I miss you too…I miss you holding me while I’ll sleep. And your horrible tea you make me every morning. Hell I even miss the boys night in.” You mumble letting Polly roam around your home.

“I do too…I miss you.”

Yoongi doesn’t look at you, all he does is tighten his grip around the steering wheel and step on the gas petal. Instinctively, your hands grab onto the side of your seat, bracing yourself for the violent brakes and sudden accelerations of the car. You don’t understand why he’s driving so fast considering he knows how much you dislike it. After the car accident when you were a teenager involving all of your family you had grown traumatized of being in cars. Before today he would be considerate about that fear and would refrain from even going five miles over the designated speed limit. Today was a different story.

“Slow down,” you do a horrible job of hiding the fear laced in your voice. Through the corner of your eye, you see Yoongi inhaling and exhaling violently. The vein of the side of his neck is pulsing, beneath the thin level of skin you can see the muscles in his jaw flex as he continues to grind his teeth.
