wake up and smell the girl crush

Clary Fray with self designed floral tattoos. Clary Fray with a lesbian flag in her room. Clary Fray with the cheapest lipstick collection. Clary Fray kicking ass when anyone hurts a homeless puppy. Clary Fray smelling like apples and grass. Clary Fray waking up at 3pm and going to sleep at 5am. Clary Fray not realizing how she’s staring at girls. Clary Fray being her crush for Halloween to impress her. Clary Fray drawing her girlfriends and spending hours making sure the birthmark is the same exact shape. Clary Fray literally a walking ray of sunshine.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Today’s girl crush goes to the amazing Jean Shrimpton. As a swinging London icon and one of the world’s first supermodels, we can’t help but love her. She also helped launch the miniskirt – pretty amazing right? Men and women alike will forever be grateful!

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Today’s girl crush goes to women’s rights activist Gloria Steinman. A leader of the Women’s Liberation Movement in the late 1960s and 1970s, Steinman helped create both New York and Ms. magazines, and helped form the National Women’s Political Caucus. We love an intelligent, independent woman! Thank you Gloria for your motivation and compassion.  You are the definition of “Girl Power”!

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH …

Michelle Obama

There are so many reasons why we love Michelle. Her fashion sense, involvement in US education, and implementation of programs that fight against childhood obesity, just to name a few. It also happens to be her birthday today. Happy birthday, Mrs. Obama! You are totally girl crush-worthy.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Today’s girl crush goes to Julie Andrews. Andrews has been a leading lady on the silver screen for over 60 years and counting. In 2000, she was even named Dame by Queen Elizabeth II for her services to the performing arts.  Her iconic roles in Mary Poppins, Thoroughly Modern Millie, The Sound of Music, and countless others make our hearts swoon for this beloved movie star!

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Rita Hayworth

Glamour girl, Hollywood actress, and married to a Prince, there isn’t much that Rita Hayworth didn’t do!  We love this bombshell beauty that appeared in over 61 films during her lifetime. Known as one of the 100 greatest starts of all time, we definitely put Rita at the top of our list!

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Today’s girl crush goes to Lisa Fonssagrives. Born in Sweden, Fonssagrives first started as a dancer then later moved to Paris where she began modeling. She then relocated to the US; where she was already a top model having been featured on the cover of Vogue, Time, Life, and Vanity Fair. Although it was reported that she was the highest paid model in the business, Fonssagrives stayed modest describing herself as “a good clothes hanger”. She later went on to become a sculptor. Fonssagrives was such a multitalented muse. We admire her longevity and personal evolution.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Today’s girl crush goes to Angelina Jolie and her role in Gia. A beautiful yet depressing film, we loved her in this role as Gia, a super model that was “too beautiful to die. Too wild to live”. Jolie perfectly captured Gia’s wild spirit and effortless beauty. This is differently one of our top movies from the 90s.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Meryl Streep

Oh Meryl. Where do we begin? You have had our hearts from day one, and our love and admiration for you just continues to grow. Sunday night’s Oscar acceptance speech rocketed you to mega-girl crush status. Keep on inspiring us with your amazing talent and longevity.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Today’s girl crush goes to the fabulous Carmen Dell'Orefice. Dell'Orefice began modeling at age 13, and was on the cover of Vogue in 1946 by age 15. Now at age 81, Dell'Orefice is still in the industry! As of the Spring/Summer 2012 season, she was known as the world’s oldest working model walking in not one but two runway shows. Talk about longevity. Carmen Dell'Orefice is truly an inspiration!

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Kelly Kapowski

What’s not to love about the head cheerleader and captain of the volleyball, swim, and softball teams – who also happens to be the nicest girl in school? Not to mention, the girl that had AC Slater and Zack Morris fought over for years. Kelly Kapowski was the girl we aspired to be as young women(and maybe who we aspire to be now!).

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Today’s girl crush goes to actress Hayley Mills. As a kid, we grew up watching her in Pollyanna and The Parent Trap. We loved her “glad-girl” roles and happy attitude. A little known fact about Mills is that she was actually considered for the role of Lolita in Stanley Kubrick’s 1962 film, but Disney refused to let her tarnish her wholesome image. While we love Lolita, we are glad Mills stayed Disney’s golden girl.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH …

Today’s girl crush goes to Ms. Dolly Parton, the “Queen of Country Music.” Vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, not to mention collaborations with numerous artists…Dolly has definitely earned her way to girl crush status and beyond!

Jean Patchett

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

When we think of the 1950’s, Jean Patchett is the first person to pop into our minds. Emerging onto the modeling scene in 1949, Jean quickly became one of the most popular models of her time, appearing on the cover of Vogue by 1950. Known for her red pout, and iconic beauty mark, Jean’s face can be recognized in 100’s of iconic fashion photos. Her agent, Jerry Ford of Ford Models said, “Jean Patchett was to Ford, to what Babe Ruth was to the Yankees.” Well done Jean. We salute your beauty and success.

WAKE UP AND SMELL THE GIRL CRUSH

Today’s girl crush goes to Leslie Brooks. She is most known for her lead role as a femme fatale in the film noir classic Blonde Ice, in which she stars as a society reporter who will do anything she has to just to get a story. While she only appeared in a few other films, we have always been a fan of Brooks’ talent and beauty.
