Husband and wife design duo Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto live by the maxim ‘Print the World,’ and have been dubbed ‘The Patron Saints of Prints.’ The designers brought two of their classic archive prints—the black and white bolt ‘Flash’ and the graphic floral ‘Magnolia Hysteria’—to the Vans x Eley Kishimoto Collection, and also created three new ones: ‘Whooping Waffle,’ which is an interpretation of the Vans waffle sole, ‘Drums,’ which is a play on the classic Checkerboard, and ‘Bumpy Road,’ which draws on the wavy sidestripe.
They have created prints for labels such as Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton and Alexander McQueen, and launched their own womenswear collection in 1996, in addition to serving as the creative directors of French fashion house Cacharel. In printing the world, their designs have appeared on everything from cars to subway stations, walls, bicycles, watches and even gnomes. We think we’re in good company.
Thanks to everyone who came out to support our Vans x Eley Kishimoto launch in NY last night. Eley Kishimoto’s mantra is ‘Print the World,’ and that was in full effect last night, with their signature prints on everything from the walls to balloons, cakes, boxes and bop bags.
