wage raise

According to my Dad the Republican™, people who want the minimum wage raised “don’t understand what it’s for” and that the businesses he worked for when he was younger would have had to change their entire business model to accommodate it so I just wanna say, controversial opinion here apparently, but if your business can’t afford to pay its employees a living wage it’s because uhh your current business model ain’t worth shit. Lol

learning about the history of capitalism makes you realize how ridiculously awful it is not even just from an ethical standpoint, but from a structural standpoint.

it takes everything in life and makes it more difficult to obtain. it complicates the most simple fucking things.

“you wanna work for yourself, your family, and your community? nah we’re actually going to pay you wages not nearly worth the value of your labor, take what you produce, then sell it back to you at a price. remember not to negotiate wages or we’ll raise the prices of our products. in order to profit, we’re also going to minimize the cost of your labor, and can’t guarantee your workplace will be safe. we’ll see quite a bit of income inequality, but that’s how the system has to function! trust me, this is the way human nature works.”

Minimum Wage Employee: I deserve a raise. No one who works full time should live in poverty.

Median Wage Employee: No way! Then you’ll make as much as I do.

CEO: You don’t even want to know how much I make. But please keep blaming poor people even though nothing is stopping you from also demanding a raise.

FUCK YOU IF YOU THINK FULL TIME  MINIMUM WAGE EMPLOYEES DON’T DESERVE TO LIVE DECENTLY.

THIS FUCKING “MYTH” THAT PEOPLE WHO WORK MINIMUM WAGE JOBS LACK AMBITION AND HAVE NO SKILLS NEEDS TO DIE. CONSIDER THE FOLLOWING:
- COLLEGE GRADUATES NEEDING TO PAY OFF THEIR STUDENT LOANS AND ALSO LIVE SOMEWHERE AND EAT
- COLLEGE STUDENTS WHO NEED TO PAY TUITION AND ALSO LIVE SOMEWHERE AND EAT
- ARTISTS WHO NEED TO SUPPORT THEIR OWN SKILLS AND PASSION AND ALSO LIVE SOMEWHERE AND EAT
- FELONS WHO ARE TRYING TO GET BACK ON THEIR FEET AND ALSO LIVE SOMEWHERE AND EAT
- SINGLE MOTHERS WHO ARE TRYING TO RAISE A CHILD AND ALSO LIVE SOMEWHERE AND EAT

PEOPLE NEED TO FUCKING EAT AND SLEEP AND IF YOU THINK THAT THEY DON’T DESERVE THAT BECAUSE YOU PERCIEVE THEIR JOB TO BE “ABOVE YOU” THEN YOU. ARE. A. SELFISH. DICK.

AND IF ANYONE COMES INTO MY INBOX WITH SOME STUPID FUCKING BULSHIT I WILL GO OFF ON THEM THE LIKES OF WHICH THEY HAVE NEVER SEEN.

Manufacture paperwork to fire me? Enjoy your liquor license audit!

I was working at a corporate sports bar at the time. Barely over minimum wage, no insurance, no raises, no future. New store management came in, and it was clear that they were “cleaning house” (I.E. firing all of the old staff to hire their people). Somewhat standard, labor laws in my area allow firing for almost any reason.

I had been down that road before. I needed a paycheck until I found a new job, so I played by their new rules. I did every stupid thing they said. I saw other, more dedicated people fall by the wayside. Eventually management needed a corporate policy violation to fire me.

Finally, one day, they changed the time clock an hour ahead, and fired me for being one hour “late” to work. OK, fair play, 100% legal anyways (they paid for the total number of hours worked), they were just fabricating the lateness for company policy.

[REVENGE BEGINS] After finding that they were fighting my unemployment claim, I filed a formal complaint with the liquor bureau in my state. Their clock said that i was an hour “late”, therefore their official paperwork said that they were selling alcohol an hour after last call. Hundreds per violation, plus automatic license suspension after X violations, and every bar transaction for that hour was a possible violation.

I QUICKLY got corporate attention. My last check was double checked for hours accuracy and overnighted to my front door. Cashier’s check, not standard payroll.I eventually signed a form saying that they were not selling alcohol after hours and they would stop filing frivolous appeals against my unemployment benefits.

The GM was replaced 2 months after I left, and they had repeated staffing problems trying to fill my shoes. Corporate still gives me a stellar job reference to this day.

Disabled Person: “I’d like to work, but employment is made inaccessible to me by requiring unnecessary skills. Those unnecessary barriers should be removed.”

Ableist: “No.”

Disabled Person: “Fine. If I can’t get a good job, then I’ll have to support myself with a low paying job. The minimum wage needs to be raised.”

Ableist: “No.”

Disabled Person: “Fine. If working is not enough to support myself, then I’ll have to live on welfare.”

Ableist: “No.”

Disabled Person: “Then what should I do?”

Ableist: “Disappear.”

This is literally based on a fucking survey. Our government is holding a survey as evidence wages will be raised.

Fun fact, manufacturers can tell you whatever they want and never go through with it, you idiots, look at actual wage trends.

The problem is not regular minimum wage jobs going up. The problem here would be that paramedic making a pathetic amount of money compared to what they do. I made 12.50 as a hostess.
Raising the minimum wage would get this paramedic in the scenario much closer to what they deserve as a salary. Do people not realize that?

Also, why, in every one of these fucking posts, are fast-food workers used as an example? You know minimum wage affects FAR more people and types of jobs than that, right? You can have a degree and be paid less than $15 hourly. But, apparently, unless you’re in the medical profession, you don’t deserve more. And evidently everyone that isn’t in the medical profession works at McDonalds.

Let’s not deny an entire mass of people a working wage because you got an incorrect order. That is moronic. How about you campaign and work toward fixing the actual problem in this scenario rather than turning on the working class. Look upwards, not downwards.

P.s. Any minimum wager could easily call out high paid jackasses for not doing their jobs, that they are highly paid to do, correctly but do you see that as often as this? Nope. Because they are focused on getting their fair wage, not just wildly pointing fingers. [Ending was edited out because it was a simple joke and people took it seriously then blew it way out of proportion]

Don’t let your employer tell you that this is unreasonable.

While I was in training at my new job, I got into a conversation with my boss about wages. He said it was important to him to pay his employees a living wage and asked me if I thought my wage is reasonable. We had a conversation about cost of living and local minimum wage laws. I broke it down and discussed what kind of apartment I could rent, bills I could pay, food I could afford, at my wage (I agreed that it was a reasonable living wage). When I was hired, he told me my starting wage, when I could expect raises and retention bonuses, and mentioned my coworker’s wages (same wage/raises/bonuses as mine). My mind is completely blown. I’ve never worked a job with this kind of transparency and care for employee income. It’s a small business, definitely not a huge income, and I’ve been to my boss’ house and seen that he lives a modest but comfortable lifestyle. I’m not eating instant noodles to line his pockets.

Don’t let your employer tell you that this is unreasonable.

I work at a fast food joint owned by a man in a pointy yellow hat, in California, the other day a woman came in and ordered a bunch along with a hashbrown. She ordered it separately, instead of getting a combo.

She then gets upset that hash browns cost so much to me, (about 1.85 or something of the sorts). She then complains to her 10 year old son, right in front of me, that “the hash browns cost so much because they’re raising minimum wage” in a huff, just complaining how it’s not a hard job, how we shouldn’t be paid the amount it’s going up to, because how dare they even decide to pay us anything above packing peanuts and pennies.

I almost lost my shit. I started working after I turned 16 in order to help my parents with bills. I gave up my weekends for my junior and senior year completely, usually only taking days off when doing internships for school.(heck I considered working early morning before prom but my friend told me I would never be able to get ready on time).

Senior year, I upped my work hours. I combined my work hours, school hours, and filming for school hours, half way during the year and realized I worked more then I slept/relaxed combined. The money I “don’t deserve” is all my college money. Because of the wages going up, I get about 500 each payday, which is twice a month. And I save about 300 each paycheck for my college savings, By the time I’m done with my generals at community college I’ll be able to afford to go to the university I want to go to without having to take a student loan(it’s fairly cheap compared to a lot of other schools but a great school for what I want to be).I’m doing max units at school now while working 20 hours a week.

And I dare this bitch, to try to fucking tell me I’m lazy one more dam time, because I’m working my ass off as a first generation, so I can make enough money to make sure my brothers don’t have to join the army like my sister in order to afford higher education. Because yeah, I’m “lazy” and “undeserving” of a good wage just because hash browns cost too much and your too stupid to realize you could of gotten a combo and gotten it fucking cheaper, you old hag.

Literally every time a company ‘discovers’ that raising their wages significantly improved other areas (turnover rate, quality of work, health of workers, customer-employee interactions, just to name a few) I’m just like…

… yes? We’ve been saying this for centuries. Literally centuries. But sure. You discovered it. Gold star.
