Yesterday’s loners and oddballs have become today’s cult heroes and commercial soundtracks. For proof, just visit my local coffeehouse, where I can introduce you to a bunch of twenty-two-year-olds who groove daily to the music of the late English folk poet Nick Drake. Credit that to a Volkswagen commercial using ‘Pink Moon,’ an ominous song that Drake recorded near the end of his short life. It should have been on the radio thirty years ago, but now it’s in the hearts of people who weren’t even born when it was recorded. And I’m proud to be driving a Volkswagen.
