hi :) do you have some other novel in one volume to recommend me? you made me discover the song of achilles (which between I can't seem to get over even after 1year and a half) so I believe in your tastes ;) thanks and hope you have a great day !

ar yes! soa is so beautiful & sad & amazing, i have yet to find another retelling of greek mythology that lives up to but i have other books to recommend u!

warning: all three recommendations involve violence, war, bloodshed, abuse, ptsd, & other triggers. if these are topics difficult for you to read/think about, don’t read these books.

i would def 100x over recommend the six of crows duology by leigh bardugo. it’s high fantasy fiction centered around a group of criminal teenagers attempting an impossible heist, led by an amoral criminal prodigy. all of the characters have intense, well-developed back stories & clear motives & goals. they’re also funny as fuck & really charming. the writing is also beautiful but not overwrought & the larger themes of freedom, revenge, fascism, bigotry, and love are organically weaved into the narrative. i read this series in january & i’m still not over it.

i would also really recommend deathless by catherynne m valente. it’s this gorgeously written retelling of russian mythology, focusing on koschei the deathless and marya morevna. this is one of the most beautiful books i’ve ever read. the writing is utterly heartstopping and the characters are so human & tragic & brave & loving. the story travels through so many years and phases but the plot remains pretty cohesive. it’s a little difficult to get through only because the language is so syrupy and rich, but it’s so so worth it. literally every line is quotable.

not a novel but! monstress, the comic series, by marjorie liu & sana takeda is one of my favorite favorite favorite things to read. the writing is gorgeous, the world-building is intricate and incredibly well-thought-out, the art is stunning, and the characters (who are almost entirely women!) are fierce, driven, and complex. it follows the story of maika, a teenage girl who survived a vicious war started by the witches & human federation against magical arcanic beings. the witches consume the magic from arcanic bones to gain immense power & have essentially enslaved the arcanic people to ensure their domination. maika, who is arcanic but looks human, has a kind of monstrous demon inside her body & no idea how it got there or what it wants. the story follows her search for answers & looks to be leading up to another great war, with maika presumably being the catalyst. it’s everything i love about the hero’s journey with a brown disabled woman at the helm! and the other characters, even the vile twisted ones, are almost all women of color too! also, there’s queer love! and maika has no silly filler romance! i would REALLY recommend checking this out. it’s on-going & relatively new (12 issues out so far?) which can be frustrating bcus new issues come once a month so it’s tough to wait when you so desperately want more, but each update is worth the pain of waiting!

hope u enjoy!

i’ve found the strength to grow so much more
a whisper to a roar
no more crying
it’s time for me to soar

tfw both of you spent so much time offscreenville that no one even remembers to reference a major event like finding out a vigilante’s secret identity

aw man this was originally supposed to be practice (hence as to why it looks absolutely messy) but i can never leave things unfinished once i start them :’)
