Things Harry Potter Should Have Named His Kid Instead Of “Albus Severus”

Because I have an abundance of saltiness about the name Albus Severus Potter

Remus Rubeus Potter: Remus Rubeus Potter, you were named after a man who fought bravely in the war despite the fact that he had a newborn just so that the world could be safe for his son and the next generation and a man who did nothing but take care of and look after me.

Arthur Rubeus Potter: Arthur Rubues Potter, you were named after the two best father figures I ever had. Both of which look after me, were always there for me, and only ever cared for me.

Remus Regulus Potter: Remus Regulus Potter, you were named after two of the bravest men I knew. Both of them risked their lives so that future generations could have great lives. One of them was a Slytherin so if you’re a Slytherin then that’s pretty rad.

Dean Seamus Potter: Dean Seamus Potter, you were named after two of the gayest guys I’ve ever met. Me and your uncle Ron shared a dorm with them when we were at Hogwarts. I know they are pretty insignifican but neither of them continually abused me and my friends so…

Fawkes Hedwig Potter : Fawkes Hedwig Potter, you were named after two of the coolest birds I ever met. One literally saved my life and the other was pretty much my only friend in an abusive household.

McGonagall Remus Potter: McGonagall Remus Potter, you were named after two of the best professors I ever had at Hogwarts. Both made sure to look after me and actually teach me useful things like teachers should. THe were both complete badasses and I have nothing but the upmost respect for both of them.

Fred Ronald Potter: Fred Ronald Potter, you were named after two guys who did nothing but make sure I not only had a family but I was extremely comfortable in theirs.

Remus Remus Potter: Remus Remus Potter, you were named after a guy who was so immensely brave and so incredibly genuine with me that I gave you his name twice.

Florean Potter: Florean Potter, you were named after a guy who gave me free ice cream even though it got him killed by Death Eaters. He was kind to me even through his fear.

Evan Prewett Potter: Evan Prewett Potter, you were named after both my biological mom and the woman who practically adopted me. The were both completely badass and did nothing but love me.

Horace Regulus Potter: Horace Regulus Potter, you were named after two of the bravest Slytherins I know. One of them gave me information that helped me save the world and the other risked his life at 18 years old so that other people could have a chance at defeating Lord Voldemort.

Fred Peeves Potter: Fred Peeves Potter, you were named after two of Hogwarts biggest trouble makers. Raise hell, son.

Hedwig Pigwidgeon: Hedwig Pigwidgeon Potter, you were named after two owls because owls are fucking cool.

Arnold Pigwidgeon Potter: Arnold Pigwidgeon Potter, you were named as a constant reminder to all the people who wonder why Ginny didn’t get to name any of our kids.

Neville Dobby Potter: Neville Dobby Potter, you were named after two incredibly brave beings who were tragically underestimated their entire lives. Also, both of them gave me information that helped me win the death tournament a dark wizard entered me in when I was 14.

Cedric Tonks Potter: Cedric Tonks Potter, you were named after the two bravest Hufflepuff’s I knew. They proved that Hufflepuff’s are much more than nice, they can be incredibly brave.

Remus Tonks Potter: Remus Tonks Potter, you were named after the bravest couple I ever knew. They continued fighting in the war despite just having a baby so that he and everyone else could have a brighter future.

Nicholas Remus Potter: Nicholas Remus Potter, you were named after two guys who were actually helpful directly after Sirius’ death. One of them was a ghost that you’ll have the pleasure of meeting.

Cadogan Potter: Cadogan Potter, you were named after one of the funniest and tragically unappreciated things that made my teenage years outstandingly better.

Tonks Potter: Tonks Potter, you were named after the bravest Hufflepuff I ever knew.

•Credence Barbone Potter: Credence Barebone Potter, you were named after a character who deserved better. Come hug me please.

Lee Regulus Potter: Lee Regulus Potter, you were named after two men who despite how young they were still managed to be brave and find a way to impact thre outcome of a war.

Bill Charles Potter: Bill Charles Weasley, you were named after the two Weasley’s that I will never stop wanting to know about.

Tonks Fleur Potter: Tonks Fleur Potter, you were named after to women who managed to look past appearance and still marry werewolf despite the hardships that came with. They were also both gorgeous badasses. Lastly, if someone has something to say about your middle name being girly send a letter to your aunt Fleur and she’ll kick their ass while still having flawless hair.

Oliver Nimbus Potter: Oliver Nimbus Potter, you were named after one of the best Quidditch players I ever met. You better make the bloody Quidditch team.

Alastor Kingsley Potter: Alastor Kingsley Potter, you were named after two incredibly brave men who are often overlooked when it comes to heroes from the war. One of them continued to fight even after being kidnapped. The other was nothing but honest and brave and clever.

Ignotis Potter: Ignotis Potter, you were named after my ancestor who was written about in the Tale of three Brothers. He was humble and clever. I’d like for you to be like him.

•Merlin Newton Potter: Merlin Newton Potter, you were named after two incredibly succesful wizards. They were both very hard working.

Sirius Ludovic Potter: Sirius Ludovic Potter, you were named after the two most dramatic men I’ve ever met. They were both incredibly extra.

Severus Umbridge Vernon Voldemort Potter: Severus Umbridge Vernon Voldemort Potter, I was just gonna name you Albus Severus Potter but I was sitting there and I thought to myself why just give you one of the names of people who’ve abused me. If I and other people are going to be constantly reminded of people who have abused us then I might as well go all in.

So during the Deathly Hallows we all know how Narcissa saved Harry during the forest scene. From this we have all concluded that she must have been extremely powerful at Occlumency. What if Occlumency wasn’t the only skill she mastered? What if she was also a powerful legilimens and that’s another reason why she decided to save Harry.

She must have heard about Harry from Draco day in and day out. At first she probably thought it was a rival and that Draco truly hated him, but around 4th year when she hears he climbed a tree and made badges to get his attention that’s when she begins to assume that maybe this isn’t as simple as a rival. It’s now that she reads Draco mind whenever he’s talking about Harry and she learns that these emotions aren’t hatred they’re love.

So when Harry turns up at the Manor and Draco is forced to identify him, she looks into Draco’s mind and she knows that he’s saving him, that the boy he loves his right in front of him and he’s the only chance left for Draco. That’s why she returns the favour because she knows that Draco isn’t one to fall in love easily, but with Harry it’s different. She knows that if he dies then Draco will never fully recover, he needs Harry.

Thankfully, the ending still plays out and Voldemort is defeated. Finally everyone can breathe. Of course there’s going to be amateur Death Eaters who’ll try and follow in his footsteps but for the time being people can have a sense of relief. Draco finds that relief with Harry and Harry realises that with Draco he can feel at ease.

From a mothers love, came an inseparable couple that no one ever thought would happen. Yet, somehow they’re defying all odds and Narcissa can feel proud that her son has finally learnt to love.

Okay but imagine and James and Lily didn’t die, and the Potter’s live their life fairly happily, and Harry still defeats Voldemort in the Second Wizarding War some way or another. But James Potter is sick of fighting wars that could’ve been stopped long before innocent people had to die, and despite everyone swearing that immature and always-joking James Potter would never become a Ministry worker, he takes up a career in politics.

James becomes an unstoppable force of nature in the Wizengamot and the Ministry, he champions for muggleborn and werewolf rights, he implements a fair functional trial system, and helps to eradicate ancient laws and regulations that discriminate.

He becomes known for being something other than the father of the Boy-Who-Lived and First and Second Wizarding War veteran. His policies are renowned and he strides (no longer struts) down the halls of the Ministry, robes dramatically sweping behind him, greying temples and Dumbledore-style twinkling eyes.

Plotting a Series

I’ve gotten a question about whether the process of plotting a single book is the same as the process of writing a series. The answer is: yes, but no. They’re similar in many areas, but there are some differences.

1. In the first book you’ll want to introduce the main conflict first, and then a smaller, less important conflict a little later in. The smaller conflict will be resolved by the end of the book; the larger conflict, which is the main conflict of the series, will not.
As an example, take the Harry Potter series (I use it because it’s well-known and won’t take too much explaining). In The Philosopher’s Stone, the first couple of chapters are about Harry and who he is, how he ended up with the Dursleys, what happened to his parents – these chapters accomplish backstory by introducing Harry and his family situation, and introduce the main conflict by telling of the death of Harry’s parents, and by Dumbledore expressing uncertainty about how defeated Voldemort really is. Then, a few chapters in, after being admitted into Hogwarts, Harry finds out that someone is trying to steal the Philosopher’s Stone – the book’s short term conflict.

2. Each short-term conflict should move the long-term conflict closer to a resolution.
For example, at the end of Philosopher’s Stone, the stone is safe (the short-term conflict resolved), but it’s been discovered that Voldemort is still alive and is still trying to gain power – the stakes of the long-term conflict are raised. At the end of Chamber of Secrets, the diary is destroyed, but we have some of Voldemort’s backstory, and it seems that Voldemort is gaining power. At the end of Prisoner of Azkaban, Wormtail is introduced – this seems to have nothing to do with the main conflict, but it’s important, because it brings some of Harry’s parentage back to him (although it’s secondhand, only stories of his parents), and because Wormtail turns out to be Voldemort’s right-hand man. At the end of Goblet of Fire, Voldemort regains his body, and at this point you could argue that the long-term conflict is about halfway through its rising action; at the end of Order of the Phoenix, Harry finds out that he must kill Voldemort or be killed by him, and that only he can defeat Voldemort; at the end of Half-Blood Prince, Dumbledore (the one person Voldemort was said to truly fear) is killed, Snape’s loyalty is in major question, and Hogwarts has been overtaken – Harry decides to continue Dumbledore’s work in looking for the Horcruxes. Finally, at the end of Deathly Hallows, Voldemort is defeated and a lot of the smaller loose ends (smaller-scale antagonists like Bellatrix LeStrange and Lucius Malfoy) are taken care of. Over the course of seven books, the long-term conflict – Voldemort trying to return to power and create a society that pampers purebloods and tramples poor wizards – has been resolved.

Basically, draw a circle on a piece of paper and put your main conflict in that circle. Then draw smaller circles stemming from that bigger circle and write your short-term conflicts in those. From there continue – subplots can be drawn stemming from your short-term conflicts. (If you don’t know how to create subplots, this post may help – in it I describe the same process of mapping out possible sub-conflicts to your main conflict, but probably describe a little better.)
If you don’t know what your short-term conflicts are yet, then think of your long-term conflict as a straight line of rope – then ask yourself how you can knot up that rope. What processes do your protagonists have to go through to get to a solution, and how can your antagonists gum up the works? For example, in the Harry Potter series, the long-term conflict is that Harry has to defeat Voldemort. What gets in the way of that? I can name a few things, from various places in the books: Minister Fudge refusing to believe him when Voldemort comes back after the events of Goblet of Fire, having so much difficulty finding and destroying all the Horcruxes in Deathly Hallows, Dolores Umbridge preaching that Voldemort is not alive when in fact he is, and is growing stronger.
(There are a million possibilities for your story’s short-term conflicts, because depending on your characters’ dispositions, they could cause a few themselves – for example, one of your characters could feel they have something to prove and end up getting themselves in trouble, and the plot of an entire book could be finding and saving that character before time runs out.)

I hope this helps! - @authors-haven

hermione granger eagerly entered hogwarts. she was curious to discover more about such a fascinating world.

she walked through the hallways for the first time, staring in awe at the moving paintings, when she hears someone call her a “filthy mudblood”, and how she didn’t belong.

it just got worse when the chamber was opened. she pretended she didn’t know about the slytherins talking about how they wanted her to be petrified, or even worse, killed (not just draco malfoy). she was upset, but above that enraged by the blood purity issue there was in the magical society.

she studied harder and harder until she would sometimes break down, because who knows, they might kick her out if she didn’t do good enough, she needed to prove herself worthy of a wand.

when she learns about what house elves are and how they (were) treated, she was furious. she hated how they were treated as slaves, as creatures that just existed solely for one’s service. she made a vow to herself to fix this. she thought the magical world was flawless, but as each year came and went, that was broken.

when she saw remus lupin, the most capable DADA professor, barely holding things together because of wizards’ stupid prejudices to werewolves, she swore to herself that she was going to get top marks, get a job at the ministry, and makes things right.

voldemort rose again. he threatened not only her friends, but people like her. instead of running away like her former self would’ve she stayed. everytime she felt like crying and giving up, she’d think “they need you. harry needs you. ron needs you. the world needs you. to fight voldemort, defeat evil, and restore justice in this world by eradicating blood status supremacy and unfair treatment to half breeds and other creatures.”

she passed the law that would make it illegal to abuse house elves and to pay them for labor. no one knew why (except for a few people) the emblem for SPEW, which became a well-respected part of the wizarding world, was a sock.

she passed the law that called for justice to werewolves. no more prejudice against them. it educated her fellow people that they were not harmful as they thought they were. she also experimented on potioneering to try to brew a potion that would completely block all symptoms when the full moon came, so no transformation at all.

she was honored to accept the position of Minister of Magic. her name will forever be in textbooks. as the first muggleborn minister. she was the person who made it possible for werewolves to pursue their dreams and maintain a steady life. for house elves to no longer be treated like slaves. for muggleborns not having to deal with what she had to when she attended hogwarts.

at that time, her dreams seemed impossible to achieve. but she proved the world wrong.

hermione granger.

if she can do that, so can you.

the fall

Sirius Black knew what stunning felt like. He had been stunned several times by the likes of Lily Evans, Remus Lupin and even James Potter when he didn’t behave as he should. He knew what it felt like ever since he was 9 years old because sometimes he just didn’t know when to shut up. So when Bellatrix’ spell hit him, he felt that familiar tingle all over his body, soon he’d fall to the marble floors of the Department of Mysteries, he would feel the cold of the marble all over his skin and Harry would continue duelling for him, he was as good as James was, he could handle that git Malfoy himself.

When he lost his balance, he heard familiar voices that didn’t belong to anyone in the room with him, calling his name, telling him to be careful. They sounded like.. James?

Sirius felt his body become weightless as he fell backwards, the last thing he heard was Harry’s piercing scream and Bellatrix’ chanting.

I killed Sirius Black. I killed Sirius Black. I killed Sirius Black.

He was falling like you would fall in your nightmares and wake up suddenly from the pull but this time he didn’t wake up. He kept falling like he threw himself from a tall building, it was like the time stood still but he kept falling. When he finally reached the ground he didn’t crash as he should have but he landed gracefully, which didn’t sound very much like him. Sirius felt hard ground behind his back but it wasn’t cold like the marble would have been. He couldn’t really be dead, could he? Bella liked to exaggerate things and Harry could have screamed about something else. Sirius was almost completely sure Bella hit him with a stunning curse, was he weak enough to die from a stunning curse?

Sirius didn’t dare open his eyes as the reality settled in, he didn’t hear Harry or the others in the room, not Moody’s orders nor Tonks’ rapid duelling, he didn’t hear Remus’ strong curses either. For the first time in his life, or his existence was a better choice of words now, he wanted to hear Bella’s screeching voice.

Sirius felt like he was shot in the head. His eyes flew open as he heard the familiar voice of his little brother. Regulus was extending a hand for Sirius to take but Sirius ignored it and pushed himself up. Second shot, this time through his heart. James Potter was standing right there, in flesh and blood. Was this his heaven? As he was thinking about what was going on, Sirius saw the taller boy running to him as his wife slowly walked behind him.

James looked the same as Sirius had left him on the floor that October night, his hair perfectly messy and glasses still crooked. Lily glowed the way she did before the war, the beauty of her heart somehow always reached the surface. They were as Sirius had left them and they were not real. How could they be? When had Sirius been that lucky?

James threw himself at Sirius and Sirius felt himself melt because the way James hugged him hadn’t changed in all those years either and Sirius could feel the warmth radiating from him. If this was a dream, how did he feel that? James kept mumbling “I’m sorry” quietly as he held Sirius tighter. He had replayed James’ hugs millions of times in his head when he was locked up, they always made him feel safe and of all the things that could have happened to him, he never expected this. When James finally pulled back, Sirius could see the warm honey eyes of his brother looking back at him glistening with the tears he was trying to hold back.

“I’m sorry,” whispered James once more. “I’m so sorry you had to live like that and it’s all because of us.”

Sirius didn’t know what to say, did it even matter if he was a part of his imagination? He then stared at Lily who had his hand on her mouth as she always did when she was about to cry, he could see her chin trembling as she tried to keep it in.

“You should see this,” she murmured and pulled Sirius by the hand and now Sirius was looking at Harry who was running after an ecstatic Bellatrix for revenge leaving Remus behind. “I don’t know how he will heal after this.”

“He will Lils, he has so much of you in him.”

Sirius had no idea what was going on, if this was real or not but seeing Harry like that was the second most hardest thing he had to endure. He was so broken, almost as broken as his Moony was, Sirius could feel it from wherever he was. He could hear the way is heart shattered into sand sized pieces but he knew, he knew Harry would get better. He knew his godson. In the two short years he got to share with him, he had seen him grow more and more like James with a heart of gold and he was sure, Harry was strong enough to get over him, too.

Sirius finally looked away from his godson, seeing that Dumbledore was there and he would be alright, he fixed his gaze on James who was standing right next to him.

“Are you real?” asked Sirius, he couldn’t help but touch James’ face and shoulders and all of them a proof that his brother was standing right in front of him after all these years.

It was Sirius’ time to hold on tight, it could be a lie but he didn’t care, he might be dead but he didn’t give a shit because he had his Prongs back. As stupid as it may sound, Sirius didn’t feel like he was dead, he even felt alive because he had already died on 31st of October fifteen years ago when he had seen James lying on the floor life drained from his eyes.

“I tried so hard to take him, Lils,” said Sirius as he was staring at Lily Evans’ green eyes and smiling at the thought of how they were the exact same of the boy downstairs. “I never wanted him to be taken to Petunia’s and I’m so–”

Lily hugged Sirius so genuinely, Sirius knew it was her way of telling him that it wasn’t his fault.

“We should be the ones apologising to you,” said Lily in between her hiccups.

“For what exactly?” challenged Sirius because he really couldn’t see any reason for them to be sorry for. It was all his fault.

“You had to live in Azkaban for twelve years because of us Pads, you lived with those creatures and I watched you, how you lost your senses and your soul–” James began but Sirius raised his hand to shut him up.

“What are you on about?” asked Sirius angrily. “I am the reason you two are– are- are here.” He wouldn’t say the other word, it had been almost fifteen years and Sirius never used that word when it came to James.

“But you were-”

“Nothing makes up for the fact that I was a coward for backing out of being the Secret Keeper,” confessed Sirius as he took a deep breath, he had never said that out loud before. He was a coward and he got his brother and his wife killed because he couldn’t just step up for once. “It should have been me and I should have died for you after all the things you had done for me.”

“I didn’t do those things for you to die for me Pads, I did them because you deserved them. Just like you deserved a happy life, with or without us,” argued James as he pushed his glasses up to rub his eyes softly. James Potter didn’t like crying, Sirius remembered clearly.

“We can play the blame game forever Jamie, just for once in your life, let me take the fall for you because this time, I need to,” begged Sirius. “Also we forget who the real culprit is because we are like that, we never let another take the fall.”

James smiled warmly at him and Sirius tipped his head to the right to look at Regulus who was now hiding behind Lily, there was no point in avoiding him anymore.

“And may I ask what the hell you are doing here, Reggie?” demanded Sirius angrily. Regulus didn’t belong where James and Lily were, he didn’t deserve to be in the same place as them.

All three of them went silent, Lily and James were most possibly communicating telepathically and Regulus was just staring at his pale hands.

“He died so maybe someday someone might defeat Voldemort,” said Lily quietly and Sirius felt his world come crashing down around him, Lily wouldn’t have lied to make him better but how was that possible? The last time he checked Regulus was a Death Eater. He walked straight to Regulus to look into the identical grey eyes as his, it was almost like looking in a mirror.

“You did what?”

“I never planned it to be a suicide mission Siri but it was. He had-– I still can’t say his fucking name.” Regulus steadied his breathing and picked up from where he left off. “Voldemort had tortured Kreacher and left him to die. I just– I couldn’t find you anywhere so I took the matter in my own hands and ended up here.”

Sirius just gaped at his little brother. The boy he had blamed for being a pawn to his mother had died because of the small possibility that someday someone might defeat Voldemort and Sirius just assumed he died miserably.

“I am so proud of you, Reggie.”

Sirius saw the smile on Regulus’ face widen as he smiled back at him but he felt the weight of the world on his shoulders.

“I am sorry because I wasn’t there for you and because I didn’t protect you from them,” apologised Sirius. “I wasn’t a good brother to you because I was busy being a good brother to Jamie. It never occurred to me that I could do both and I am sorry for that.”

“You were what kept me here Siri, you were the reason I never moved on because I wanted you to know that I didn’t disappoint you,” babbled Regulus as he played with the loose strings of his clothes. “I did that to make you proud and to make up for all the things I did.”

“You are not leaving, are you?”

“No, I won’t leave before I see that man defeated,” replied Regulus with disgust in his voice.

Sirius pulled his brother in to bone crushing hug like he did when they were around 10 years old Walburga was having a particularly cruel day, Sirius hadn’t hugged Regulus like that since he was 12 and Merlin, it felt good.

Sirius could hear the panic in Lily’s voice, not a lot of people knew that but Sirius knew Lily like the back of his hand, okay maybe his left hand but he did nevertheless. Sirius walked with James and Regulus to where Lily was standing rigidly and he saw Harry was now in the Headmaster’s room. Sirius and James had spent considerable time in that place.

Sirius looked down at his godson, he was wreaking havoc in Dumbledore’s room and yelling at the Headmaster with so much anger that Sirius felt like Harry got his temper from him, Sirius had never been subtle about showing his anger however this was different. Harry was yelling because of him and how he had had enough because apparently Sirius’ absence was the last drop for him and Sirius felt his heart drop to his stomach, he still had his heart after all, albeit not beating.

“Can I, um, see Moony from here?”

One question was all it took and before others could reply, Sirius could see Remus, Merlin knows where, with a good supply of Firewhiskey by his side as he stared into oblivion. Sirius slowly realised he was in the room where he kept Buckbeak, why would he shut himself up in that miserable place? Remus was rocking back and forth, Sirius hadn’t seen him do that since he was thirteen, he did that when he couldn’t handle everything going on around him.

He’s gone, he’s gone again. He’s gone.

It felt like all Sirius did was disappoint. The black sheep of the family, the coward that got James and Lily killed, the useless brother and constantly absent lover. Sirius hadn’t realised up until now that being with James meant that he would be without Remus. He had disappointed the man who loved him yet again, he never could do right by Remus and he had left him alone, again

Headcanon: The Slytherin Prefects having a rough batch of first years who are crying/upset about being in Slytherin when they reach the dungeons. So they go get Professor Potter, who is not much better with crying first years, until he's honest with them. "Look I didn't want to be in Slytherin at your age either, but I can tell you I'm proud of each of these Slytherins, and I know I'll be proud of you too." The Prefects being at first annoyed, then reluctantly enjoying his frankness.

Even now, so many years later, Harry remembers what it’s like to be eleven years old. With near painful clarity, he remembers standing in the entry way to the Great Hall, listening to the nervous shuffling and whispering from the other students around him. “What house do you think you’ll be in?” “Anything but slytherin. I’ll take hufflepuff before I take slytherin.” Harry only has a basic sense of what those words mean, but he recognizes all too well the tone they’d said “slytherin” in. The same tone Uncle Vernon used when he talked about “hippies”.

When the Sorting Hat was dropped over his ears and the Great Hall disappeared, the anxiety was enough to nearly choke him. He listened to the hat whisper in his ear, saying “slytherin” like some dark promise. He’d begged at the time, anything but slytherin, anything but slytherin

Now, sitting in front of eleven year old equally as, if not more, upset than he had been, he decided to be honest. He’d been honest with the Sorting Hat and they deserved that same level of honesty.

The Prefects had trusted him the least when he’d become their House Head. It hadn’t been easy for them to protect their younger housemates from the scorn of the other houses and even harder to fulfill their duties as Prefects when three fourths of the houses refused to listen to them half the time. What was Harry Potter, the boy who lived to defeat Voldemort, the heir to Slytherin, going to do for the young snakes crying in front of them? They’d seen no other option though, so they reluctantly marched the sniffling first years to Harry’s office and barged in the door without knocking.

“We’re just not sure what to do.”

Harry looked down at the six students in front of him, tears stained faces with red rimmed eyes. There was awe in some of them, fear in others. Harry swallowed past the nervous ball in his throat.

“Uhm, ah, everyone sit down. Prefects, you may return to the dungeons, I’ll escort them back in a little while.” They were halfway to the door when he rushed to add a, “Thank you.” They looked at him with unfathomable eyes before shrugging and disappearing out the door.

“So,” he started after a beat of awkward silence, “Tell me what’s going on?”

They all rushed to explain, tripping over their words and speaking over each other. Harry held up a hand when he’d heard enough, effectively silencing them.

“I’m going to be honest with he,” he said seriously, “I didn’t want to be in slytherin either. The only reason I was in Gryffindor was because I asked the Sorting Hat not to put me in slytherin.

He rushed to keep speaking when they started to open their mouths again, undoubtedly about to ask him if they were allowed to go ask the Sorting Hat too, “I asked for that for the wrong reasons. I thought that slytherin house was bad. I thought that it was the house for dark wizards and witches. I thought that I wouldn’t be able to make any friends because how could I be like them?”

A sense of panic overtook the first years, as if he was confirming all their darkest thoughts. Harry smiled reassuringly.

“I was wrong, though. Some of the bravest, best people I’ve known have come from slytherin house. Some of the most cowardly of men have come from gryffindor. There is no right or wrong house to be in. If the Sorting Hat thinks that you’ll succeed in slytherin, it’s because you have all the potential and traits to do so. And I’m here to help you do that.”

The first years calmed, thinking this over and staring at him with calculating eyes. One by one, they slowly nodded and wiped away tear tracks from their cheeks. Harry grinned triumphantly and stood from his desk.

“Now, why don’t we return to the common room. I’ll introduce you to some of the mermaids that like to sit by the windows.”

The walk to the dungeon was filled with excited questions and bright eyes.

During the Eighth year, a lot of things changed for Harry.
The first thing was his relationship with Ginny. She was the Perfect Girlfriend, but not for him. They both figured it out when Luna came back and started hanging out with the red headed girl more and more. Harry and Ginny weren’t made for eachother. They decided that being just friends was good enough.
The second was his relationship with his friends. They treated him differently. He was a hero now, and his fame had increased after he defeated Voldemort; so everyone behaved like he was some sort of god. He kinda hated that. He was still Harry, just with a bunch of new scars. They all had new scars, they all lost friends and family that night. His losses weren’t any different.
The third and most important thing was with Draco. He made amends, then came back to Hogwarts and started a new life. With his father in Azkaban, Draco finally let himself free of the chains the man had imposed on him. He wasn’t the spoiled, poshy kid that treated everyone like shit. He was a sad man who had made very wrong choices to protect his family. Harry didn’t blame him, he understood why Draco did what he did.
So he started talking to him. At first it was casual chat when they met in the Eighth year’s dorm. Then it was a bunch of whispered words during class, that soon became bad jokes and genuine interest in what the other had to say.
They grew attached to one another. Draco didn’t treat Harry differently and Harry didn’t treat Draco like a criminal. They felt normal when they spent time together.
And Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived and later defeated the Dark Lord, discovered why his relationship with Ginny couldn’t work. Harry liked guys. Blond guys with grey eyes and chaos in their soul. But he couldn’t just tell his former arch-enemy he fancied him. He would lose him and he couldn’t allow that.
So they kept spending time together. Harry managed to bury his feelings for Draco and act like he didn’t feel the urge to grasp Draco’s perfectly ironed shirt and kiss him senseless every time they guy smiled at all.
Then the end of the year approached, and with it, Draco’s birthday. Harry could not for the love of himself find a present for the blond.
Draco had everything he needed; he was still rich, after all. What could Harry give him?
His last resort was to ask the only thing that could really know what Draco needed. So, on the 5th of June, he went to the Seventh Floor and walked three times in front of the tapestry depicting the attempt of Barnabas the Barmy to teach trolls ballet, asking the Room of Requirements what Draco wanted for his birthday; what he really felt the need for.
When the door appeared, he cautiously opened it and peeked inside. The Room was very small and in the middle of it stood a mirror. Harry at first didn’t understood what that meant. Draco had a mirror, it was on his side of the dorm’s room… why would the Room…? Oh.
He was what Draco wanted.
His feelings were requited.
He ran down the corridors, nearly tripping down the stairs and hitting Merlin knows how many students. He shouted apologies to everyone but didn’t stop. All this time Draco felt the same! So why did he not tell him? No one cared about this kind of things anymore. Dean and Seamus kissed and walked hand in hand all the time since the were reunited before the Battle. Was he stopped by the same fears as Harry?
Well, that didn’t matter anymore. When he barged in the common room of their arranged dorm, he found the man he was in love with sitted on one of the sofas, peacefully reading a book. He nearly jumped in front of him, startling the poor Draco.
“I thought about your present for days, and I couldn’t come up with anything except this so, I’ll make it quick: this is probably the most insane thing I’ll ever utter in my whole life but I think I’m love with you and I think you at least fancy me so…” he blurted out to a speechless Draco, and then kissed him. It was just lips pressing on lips, but for Harry it was the best thing that could happen to him. And when Draco parted his lips to deepen the kiss, smiling on the brunet’s mouth, he knew he had found the perfect gift.
“You’re out of your mind, Harry Potter. That’s probably why I love you.” Draco whispered when they parted and they both smiled at the other.

Many things changed for Harry Potter during Eighth year. He let the girl he thought he loved be free to love the weirdest and most adorable girl in the world. He was praised as an hero for the whole year. He found love in an enemy.
After all, going back to school wasn’t that bad of an idea.

There is a chacter in Harry Potter.

This character was abused as a child.

This character was bullied all through out his childhood, even at Hogwarts.

This character lashes out multiple times in the series. This can usually be linked back to the abuse they experienced.

This character was almost killed at Hogwarts.

This character probably needs serious mental help because of the abuse they went through.

This character put themselves in danger and was willing to die to defeat Voldemort.

Now I want you to picture the character you think this is about.

Almost all of you are picturing Harry Potter, and all of the above do apply to him.

But this is about Severus Snape.

alright but what if in sixth year when harry finds draco crying they don’t duel like dumbasses

harry walks in to see a disheveled, upset draco with his head over the sink crying into it. harry is shocked to see malfoy, of all people, so vulnerable, looking so weak. he’s at a loss for words, for what to do.

he walks up to his nemesis and says slowly, and gently, “hey are you alright?” he sees him jerk his head up fast as draco tries to conceal the tears and obvious emotion he just conveyed.

“get out,” draco says. he turns to harry with his head hung low. “get out,” the taller boy repeats.

draco goes to push past harry but he’s stopped by a hand on his chest. harry moves to be in front of draco, grabbing his wrists.

“hey,” says harry as gently as he can make his voice. “look at me.” when draco refuses the command, harry repeats the line.

draco lifts his head and looks at his rival. his eyes are puffy and bloodshot. he’s ashamed. he let harry see him like this, he never thought this would happen.

harry places his hands on the sides of draco’s face and kisses him briefly, resulting in a fluttering of blushes from draco.

“everything is gonna be okay.”

for the first time in his life draco believes this.

and then draco goes to tell harry about his plans and harry helps him to defeat voldemort and no one has to die and they’re all happy

Only seconds ago you were told Harry was dead. Your best friend had been murdered and you had failed to save your brother, Harry Potter. Regardless, you knew he might die, but it didn’t hit you. You didn’t know it would hurt so much.

You never knew how to cry in style. With pearl-like drops rolling from your luminous eyes. You wanted to look as if you were on a Romantic novel cover your mother read in Savannah before Harry was born. That trip to Savannah made you smile. Why did you have to go, mom… dad, I need you. You wished you had learned; you wouldn’t have to hide in the bathroom or a dark closet to cry. You cried ugly tears of sorrowful remembrance for those you lost; always. This time you wouldn’t cry. You cried long enough, you were tired of crying. You had dirt on your face, sadness in your eyes, and pain in your heart. You didn’t want to stay strong when everything around you was seemingly falling apart. It was too hard. However, you did it for Harry, those who died. Voldemort lifted his arms in the air.

“Join us or die!” Voldemort yelled. You felt defeated, the chosen one has died, and you were nothing like Harry.

Your face wasn’t the only one with pain. Minerva looked down at you with sorrow. You could only wish to be as strong as her. She was the only person you looked up to. She showed bravery and strength that you never could. Even through tough times, she was strong. Never broke.

Voldemort waited for people to come, but nobody went. You spotted Lucius. You knew you should’ve never gotten involved with Draco, but you did. He was a bad idea, with a good face. You never liked his parents either, he knew that. They used Draco. Lucius’ face was terrified, he kept his stare at something… someone. You followed his gaze to Draco. Draco.

His father looked at him “Draco,” It was a fast matter, amplified by the walls around you. His father called to him. He held his arms out. Struck with fear, you turned back and looked at your lover. You shook your head no. He didn’t see you. If it was anyone that would break you, it would be him.  He couldn’t side with them. The person you love, who you shared everything with was considering this. It shook you with fear, you forgot about him during this war. Where he was, what happened, it was too much for a kid. Nonetheless, you were proud of yourself.

Hermione held your shoulder, she knew you would go after him. She knew you loved him, and she accepted that.

“Draco,” His mother said, her voice was sweet like candy “Come.” Yet she was so deceiving, they both were. That’s why Draco believed them, that’s why he grew up ignorant.

You broke each time you heard his name. His parents taught him wrong. You watched him struggle with his identity. He never dealt with pressure like they put on him. He was so ignorant and oblivious, yet he wasn’t. Pressure built behind his eyes, that’s when knowledge came and devastated.

You leaned into Hermione. Your head burrowed itself in the crook of her neck. “He can’t go, he can’t go, he can’t go,” you muttered to Hermione, she stroked your hair.  “It’ll be okay, ” she said quietly. “It’ll be okay.” She too lost faith in Draco, she trusted him with your heart, even though he always did her wrong. He made you happy. He slowly walked forward. Hermione shuddered as he walked, a single tear escaped your eyes. You turned back to look at him and wiped your eyes. Hermione still had you wrapped in her arms.

As he walked slowly your breath hitched, a screamed clawed at the back of your throat; trapped. It tore through your lungs. It ripped through you, it scratched your mouth and bit at your throat. “DRACO!” Your chest burned, it was the kind of scream that made your blood run cold, it was pain. It sounded like fear. A scream of hysteria and disbelief, bordering on terror. You pushed against Hermione, trying to run as she held you back.

“Don’t,” Hermione said, you should’ve listened but she let go anyway. You stumbled towards Draco in a fast paced run. You heard Voldemort and his followers laugh at you.

“DRACO!” You yelled again. You never really feel anyone’s pain, but your scream was close. It put every thought on hold and made everyone feel your agony. There wasn’t a soul 100 miles away that wouldn’t hear it and stop. He turned around as you flew into his arms. He grabbed onto you, he was trying to find strength. He held you in his arms for a moment, you took his face in your hand and you wiped the single tear that fell from his eyes. “Draco?” He wouldn’t look you in the eyes, he never did when he did something wrong. He never wanted to disappoint you. But he always did in the end.“Draco?” you whispered once again. Every word hurt you both more. He looked at you. His eyes were gray pools of fear. He did this to you. He gave you happiness and life, but just as easily he could take it away.

“Y/N?” His voice cracked. You smiled softly. You leaned into him more. This could be your last moment. His mother cursed at you. She didn’t like you either.

“You know what you’ve done.” His eyes saddened as you uttered that to him. He now realized what he’s done during the years. “To me… Harry… all of us. And out of all that, I still love you.”

You saw something in Draco no one saw, he was hurt and abused. You moved his hair from his face and wiped the dirt from his chin. “You’re gentle and passionate.” His lips trembled as you talked. “Misunderstood.” He grabbed onto your arm, harder. He was too weak, just a little boy who couldn’t handle the world “You are nothing but what your parents made you be, but I know you’re better. I know because I’ve stuck with you all this time. Five years. This isn’t you.” Draco believed you, this wasn’t him.

Voldemort scoffed. He insulted you, telling lies, beckoning him over. “Oh Draco, she isn’t worth your time.” He insulted. You looked over at him. He’s more evil in person, the stories don’t do him justice. You wanted to yell at him, curse him into oblivion, but that would get you one step closer to death.Draco whimpered as you looked at him again. “your humanity is still here.” you placed your index finger on his chest “It’s here. You can make the right choice. After all, you’re the boy who made all the wrong choices.” You knew it was enough, you knew he wouldn’t go.

“I love you.” He whispered. “I love you so, so much.” He brushed your hair out of your face.

His lips found yours, they moved against yours fluently. It was different from any other kiss. It was needier, it was more emotional. You held onto to his collar as he kissed you harder. It wasn’t gentle. It was rough; passionate. You knew you had him. His hands held onto your waist pulling you more and more into him. Voldemort cackled.

“Love isn’t real, my friend.” You both ignored him.

His lips parted with yours. His touch lingered, “I love you,” He whispered again. You smiled against his lips.

“Make the right choice.”  You let go of each other. You stood there while moments of silence went by. You stared into his eyes, he wasn’t cold or mean. He was scared, but he could never admit it.

He looked upon what he had. He looked at the women he loved, at the people he betrayed. He knew you were right. Yet, he turned around and right in front of you hugged Voldemort. One foot in front of each other, he willingly walked to his parents. Right in front of you, he chose them, death eaters. He made you feel worthless. You were embarrassed by what he did to you. And yet again he made the wrong choice he would regret.

And for once Hermione was wrong it was not going to be okay. Harry was dead and your lover betrayed you. You cried.

Hermione tugged you back, you couldn’t believe it. You cried. “You son-of-bitch,” you whispered to yourself. “I loved you.” He locked eyes with you and looked down. He made his choice. Harry would’ve known what to do, but he was dead. Nothing worked out for the Potters. Ever.

Neville stood up to Voldemort. He is a far cry away from who he was in year one. But you zoned out what he said and kept your eyes on Harry, your brother. You wanted to believe Draco would come running back with Harry beside him, but it was never going to happen. “He’s not dead,” you whispered to yourself. Tears slipped from your eyes. You wiped them quickly and carelessly.“You’re not dead Harry. C’mon get up!” you whispered louder.

That moment was a blur. You looked over at Draco who had his eyes on you. And back at Harry. He was gone, out of Hagrid’s arms and on the ground. You looked over at Hermione and laughed. Draco threw him his wand. A smile lit up your face and you laughed. Tears flowed freely. You pointed your wand at one section of the crowd. They began to apparate.

“Sectumsempra!” you yelled.  Harry Potter is alive.

You ran back where Hermione with Ron was going.

“Y/N!” You whipped your head around. Draco?
