08/10/13 Today I have been experimenting with maps. I have only used maps of places that are personal to me such has the map of the uk and maps of manchester. I started stitching the maps onto canvas material and then pulling some fragments of information away from it. I created two different pieces of work, but I like the back of my work as much as the front. I don’t know where to take this next…

these are all images of when we did an artists’ circuit, we did drawings with our wrists tied together, blindfolded drawings, sculpture, what we can see, what we felt on our back, a painting of what expression we see, our journey in tape, drawing using a craft knife, a motif/logo that represents us and a giant charcoal peice.

14/10/13 Today I completed my abstract map paintings and put them up on my wall in the studio. I am going to research Jasper Johns in relation to this work because he also has made an abstract painting of a map.

I dont know where to go from here, but I really like the maps that I had sewn on to canvas and ripped parts away from it to create negative space. I might try doing some more of these of different materials, until I get an idea of where I can take this further.

These are all pictures taken at fridays workshop, i had chosen a roll of masking tape as my blank object, i then found things i could put it on and attach to, took pictures from different angles and different things through it.I then moved on to just round things in general trying to find anything round and intersting and ended up with a light bulb and a binder of a sketchbook. i feel this workshop helped me to look at objects in a different way and use them for things they are not typically used for. Asking the question “What Happens When…?”
