Hand-Drawn Sketches of Iconic 20th-Century Homes

Diego Inzunza, a young architect and illustrator from Chile, has created a series entitled “Architectural Classics” that beautifully depicts iconic pieces of residential architecture from the 20th century. These axonometric sketches reveal the architects’ overriding vision for each project in an understated and understandable way. From Frank Lloyd Wright and Philip Johnson to Mies van der Rohe and Le Corbusier, Inzunza’s drawings bring a fresh perspective to these classic and beloved projects.

A Visitation

Last night, I fell asleep using my vampire tarot cards (I have a terrible habit of falling asleep during divination sessions when i’m tired - the deep state of meditation relaxes me a bit too much and drifts me off into the astral world of sleep).

I suddenly find myself in a twilight meadow, surrounded by Birch and the clouds above crowning a purple sky. In the distance I can see a small, dark graveyard with a tall figure waiting for me. I pass through the sleek blades of grass, the figure becoming clearer in the approaching moonlight. At last, I see a pale man standing between two shrubs of Wormwood, bearing a single goblet cup. His eyes glow a deep amber yellow, illuminating his silvery-black hair. He welcomes me, and gestures to follow him into a deep tomb below the earth. Inside are three rooms, a main hall with a stone table resting on black and white tiles with ceremonial torches on each corner of the ceiling. The vampire’s resting place lies to the right, where there is a coffin on a bed of moss and wine-red tapestries on the walls. Inside that room, there is a small hallway which leads to a secret passage, locked with a hidden key.

The vampire rests his cup on the stone table, biting his hand to drain his blood at a midpoint inside goblet. Then, he takes my hand and bites it too, filling the rest of the cup with human blood. Taking the cup, we drink from it together till the very last drop. What does this represent? Blood is symbolic for life-force, my blood being the human aspect, his blood being the spirit aspect. Or at least, that is what he told me. When these join together, the human can mediate between both worlds - the astral and the physical. Even though this is fairly obvious and we are all capable of doing this, often we are held back by the fear of death, or the fear of the unknown. Working with the vampire thus makes you work with these two aspects, destroying all prejudice of darkness and making you face the crossroads alone - which can be frightening at first but through undergoing this journey you become a fearless spirit, learning how to distinguish between sensible caution and needless anxiety

Upon this explanation he takes me to the locked passage, drawing out the hidden key out of midair. The wooden door opens, revealing total darkness. He takes my hands and leads me through the shadows until I can faintly see a black pond, with ripples distorting the reflection of the full moon. He explains to me that this is where he does his scrying sessions, as it is a place where the moon is always at its peak form, opening all channels of intuitive power with the waters of the pond conjuring psychic visions. We both kneel at the water’s edge and stare into our own reflections. At first my face takes the form of a vampire, causing my heart to beat with fright. Then my face shifts into worse monstrous forms until the images slowly start to cause me less fright. As I begin to lose this sensation of fear, I become more relaxed and immune to the negativity I induced myself and the faces begin to become more and more mellow, until the face becomes my own reflection again.

The vampire lets out a small laugh to comfort me, while helping me to stand up. His amber eyes is the only thing I can see before a flash hits me, and I find myself back again in the meadow. I lay down on the soft grass, ready to “sleep” so that I may return back to my own world.

“…Mr. Tesla was charmed to hear about the Vedantic Prâna and Âkâshâ and the Kalpas, which according to him are the only theories modern science can entertain. Now both Âkâshâ and Prâna again are produced from the cosmic Mahat, the Universal Mind, the Brahmâ or Ishvara. Mr. Tesla thinks he can demonstrate mathematically that force and matter are reducible to potential energy. I am to go and see him next week, to get this new mathematical demonstration.

“In that case, the Vedantic cosmology will be placed on the surest of foundations. I am working a good deal now upon the cosmology and eschatology (That is, doctrine of the last things — death, judgement, etc.) of the Vedanta. I clearly see their perfect unison with modern science, and the elucidation of the one will be followed by that of the other. I intend to write a book later on in the form of questions and answers. (This was never done. But from his lectures in London in 1896, it is easy to see that his mind was still working on these ideas. (See also Vol. VIII Sayings and Utterances& Letter to Mr. Sturdy .)). The first chapter will be on cosmology, showing the harmony between Vedantic theories and modern science.

Brahmâ = The Absolute
Mahat Ishwara = Primal Creative Energy
Prâna and Âkâshâ = Force and Matter

“The eschatology will be explained from the Advaitic standpoint only. That is to say, the dualist claims that the soul after death passes on to the Solar sphere, thence to the Lunar sphere, thence to the Electric sphere. Thence he is accompanied by a Purusha to Brahmaloka. (Thence, says the Advaitist, he goes to Nirvâna.)

“Now on the Advaitic side, it is held that the soul neither comes nor goes, and that all these spheres or layers of the universe are only so many varying products of Âkâshâ and Prâna. That is to say, the lowest or most condensed is the Solar sphere, consisting of the visible universe, in which Prana appears as physical force, and Âkâshâ as sensible matter. The next is called the Lunar sphere, which surrounds the Solar sphere. This is not the moon at all, but the habitation of the gods, that is to say, Prâna appears in it as psychic forces, and Akasha as Tanmâtras or fine particles. Beyond this is the Electric sphere, that is to say, a condition in which the Prâna is almost inseparable from Âkâshâ, and you can hardly tell whether Electricity is force or matter. Next is the Brahmaloka. where there is neither Prâna nor Âkâshâ, but both are merged in the mind stuff, the primal energy. And here — there big neither Prâna nor Âkâshâ — the Jiva contemplates the whole universe as Samashti or the sum total of Mahat or mind. This appears as a Purusha, an abstract universal soul, yet not the Absolute, for still there is multiplicity. From this the Jiva finds at last that Unity which is the end. Advaitism says that these are the visions which rise in succession before the Jiva, who himself neither goes nor comes, and that in the same way this present vision has been projected. The projection (Srishti) and dissolution must take place in the same order, only one means going backward, and the other coming out.

“Now as each individual can only see his own universe, that universe is created with his bondage and goes away with his liberation, although it remains for others who are in bondage. Now name and form constitute the universe. A wave in the ocean is a wave, only in so far as it is bound by name and form. If the wave subsides, it is the ocean, but those name and form have immediately vanished for ever. So though the name and form of wave could never be without water that was fashioned into the wave by them, yet the name and form themselves were not the wave. They die as soon as ever it returns to water. But other names and forms live in relation to other waves. This name-and-form is called Mâyâ, and the water is Brahman. The wave was nothing but water all the time, yet as a wave it had the name and form. Again this name and form cannot remain for one moment separated from the wave, although the wave as water can remain eternally separate from name and form. But because the name and form can never he separated, they can never be said to exist. Yet they are not zero. This is called Maya.

“I want to work; all this out carefully, but you will see at a glance that I am on the right track. It will take more study in physiology, on the relations between the higher and lower centres, to fill out the psychology of mind Chitta (mind-stuff), and Buddhi (intellect), and so on. But I have clear light now, free of all hocus-pocus. I want to give them dry, hard reason, softened in the sweetest syrup of love and made spicy with intense work, and cooked in the kitchen of Yoga, so that even a baby can easily digest it.”

–Swami Vivekananda

(A Letter To Mr. E.T. Sturdy. 228 W. 39th Street, New York, February, 13, 1896.

All My Stuff and Things

I remember once in an interview, Harry quipped he would write a book one day about his stuff - titled:  All My Stuff and Things.  He hasn’t written the book yet, but he did show us many of his favorite things in his personally curated collection for Another Man.   For a very private young man, he revealed a lot about himself by giving us a glimpse of some treasured possessions.

I have no doubt that 16 year old Harry wanted to be famous.  Gemma’s contribution to the Another Man spread confirmed that Harry was almost universally loved as he grew up.  His charm and naturally flirtatious personality opened doors for him.  He was used to getting his way - charming his way out of trouble and into whatever he wanted.  He had no reason to believe that life as a famous singer would be very different from the “dream life” it’s portrayed to be.

Harry most likely wrote Don’t Let Me Go in the Summer of 2012 (please correct me if I’m wrong.)  Clearly, by this time, his perception of fame had drastically changed.  During the X-Factor he struggled with crippling stage fright - quite understandably, he lacked confidence as a singer.  I love Harry’s X-Factor singing, but he was very inexperienced - he had a lot to learn and he knew it.  When he ran out of breath at the Red and Black performance it shook him.  The poor kid couldn’t help but to Google, “Harry shit” and wallow in the cruelty of ugly comments and hate directed at him.  I think his crying on Twit-cam was the beginning of his realization that fame is not everything it’s cracked up to be.  I well remember the interview where Harry and Louis kept pressing the female interviewer who said she (and other young women and girls) quite liked the idea of two boys kissing, etc.  They didn’t understand why they should have to hide their love.  (And, to be fair, it would have been far better in the long run if they hadn’t been closeted.)  The fans loved “Larry” - they ate it up, but HQ insisted they must be perceived as straight to make it as pop stars.

Harry went on to suffer some of the most brutal over-exposure of any pop star.  Whenever the other lads had a short break, Harry would have to be out doing fan service - often being seen with some girl who was supposed to be his latest fling.  Harry came to learn that he wasn’t really famous at all - almost no one knew him.  Harry Styles™ had a very familiar body and face, but otherwise was almost unrecognizable.  His discomfort with the womanizer image has been well documented in countless interviews and is, frankly, indisputable.  Gradually, Harry became more and more guarded.  Everything about  Harry Styles™ was an illusion and not even an image he would ever want to project.

I’ve been lucky enough to know a few deeply artistic people in my life.  One was a renown architect, another a wood carver.  (They were old men when I knew them and have since passed on.)  Both of them lived their passion.  They never sought out fame and fortune, but they did pour their souls into everything they made.  The architects buildings are unmistakable as are the carvers carvings.  They were both somewhat private men, but both had something deep within themselves that they freely showed to anyone willing to look.  There is a passion and honesty to their work that lives on beyond them.  I’ve come to see Harry in much the same way.  He keeps his private life strictly to himself, but also bares his soul.  Some similarities I see between Harry and my examples:  Collaborative, but with their own strong opinions, vision and purpose on projects; not given to small talk or frivolous conversation; generous and kind, weird and eccentric; passionate to share their visions.

Harry no longer desires to be famous, but to be known.  His photography, music, clothing, the artwork he loves.  The things he wants to share are his deepest loves and yearnings - his unique perspective - the things he finds beautiful in every day life.  He has no interest selling - projecting an image designed to garner popularity or sales.  Harry is driven to create honest and deep expressions of who he is and what he believes - even as he continues to discover that himself.  (At 23, he will doubtless discover more of himself.)  Harry’s artistic expressions are very distinctly and recognizably him - they bear his indelible mark.  For a young man just turning 23, that is a remarkable accomplishment.

Happy 23rd birthday Harry!

Summary:  Art student Castiel Novak is struggling to solidify an idea for his BFA senior project incorporating painting and photography. Enter Dean Winchester, current MFA student, tattoo artist apprentice, and now, nude model for the figure drawing class. Suddenly, Castiel’s vision for the perfect project springs to life in his mind. Full of wings, souls, and visible grace. Something he sees shining out of the outgoing tattoo artist like never before. All he needs to do now is convince Dean to let him paint on his body, and also somehow figure out what to do about the fledgling feelings he has for Dean that he didn’t even think he was capable of before now.

- - -

He doesn’t so much as glance up or slow down his sketching. “Hello, Dean Winchester, BFA, MFA.”

Dean grins. “Easy there, tiger. I haven’t graduated yet.”

“You will,” he says in a flat, serious monotone. “Your art is awe-inspiring.”

Dean chuckles. “Don’t sound so excited about it.”

Castiel finally looks up, staring at Dean. “It is, though. It’s why…” he breaks off, scratching his nose, embarrassed, leaving another streak of graphite behind. “It’s why I’m painting you like I am.”

“Huh.” Dean slides into the empty chair and loads a bunch of salsa and guacamole on top of his tacos. “What do you see in my art, Cas?”

Castiel squints at him. “Do you have any tattoos I’m not aware of?”

“Are you gonna answer my question?”

“You gonna answer mine?”

“I see your soul,” Castiel says. “Or the manifestation of it.”

“No tattoos” Dean says. “Not yet. I’m planning one, though.”

Carefully, Castiel closes his sketchbook and pushes it to the side, placing his pencil on top of it. “Dean… for my final project, I’d like to paint on you.”

Dean arches an eyebrow. “You are painting me. In class.”

“On you,” Castiel stresses.

Dean leans forward. “What do you mean by that?” He figures that a normal person would be embarrassed by what Castiel is saying, however the guy looks anything but. It’s too intriguing for Dean to brush off. Hell, most art students are weird in some way or another. And he’s digging the weird.

Castiel’s eyebrows tip up and he stares without blinking like he’s seeing Dean for the first time. “Are you serious?”

Dean leans back in his chair, grinning. “What?”

He drags out a hum. “You actually want to know?”

Dean swipes a fry from Castiel’s plate. They’ve gone long cold and oily. He eats them anyway. “I asked you, didn’t I?”

“You’re not going to call me a freak?”

He shrugs. “Never said I wouldn’t. But not right now. Art’s weird, right? Most of us are freaks in one way or another. I’m just curious why I’ve become a part of your vision.”

Castiel considers this, nodding several times. “How honest am I allowed to be here?”

“Hundred percent,” Dean assures him, holding up his hand like Scout’s honor. “I can go first if it makes you feel better.”

A genuine smile spreads over Castiel’s face, deepening his dimples and making him look boyish. Something clenches in Dean’s chest and he really wants to see that smile about a million more times. “You’re pretty weird, too.”

Out of Feathers, Out of Bones [an elucien epistolary fic] part 1

Lady Elain,

I hope this letter finds you well. And I also hope it isn’t overly presumptuous of me to send this at all. I wrote to Feyre a month ago, telling her I’d be longer in the spring court than I planned; They need all the assistance they can get reorganizing after the war. Is it right to call it a war when it lasted less than a month? The extended skirmish. No, sorry, that makes it sound silly, and the death toll was

I’ve already restarted this letter four times, and Tamlin does not possess an unlimited supply of stationery, so I’m going to keep going. My apologies for that babbling and any in the rest.

Luke and Flint and Silver

There were many, many fascinating insights in the way Luke Arnold talked about Silver in the most recent Fathoms Deeps episode, but what stood out to me, and what I found really interesting, is that in 4.10, he thought that Silver found it most terrifying that Flint would forgive him just so they could go on with that war.

Because I’ve always seen that scene as Flint forgiving Silver because he relates to him, and because he loves him, but it’s really a good question if Silver ever really got to the point of realizing it. If Silver ever realized how much of an attachment Flint has formed to him, how much projection is going on there (with Flint projecting his vision for Miranda and Thomas on Madi and Silver), that the thing Flint feels for him goes beyond respect and loyalty and Silver’s usefulness.

That when Flint teaches him how to fight, it’s not to turn him into a more useful tool but because Flint wants him to give him the means to defend himself. That when Flint tells him, “I want you to learn how to fight and not die” what Flint is saying “I love you”; that when Flint tells him, “Again”, after Silver has asked whether there can still be trust between them, Flint is saying “I love you”; that when Flint says, “I believe that. I trust it. Do you?” he is saying “I love you”.

And now I wonder, did Silver really not know?

And if he didn’t know it, what would have changed if he’d realized?

Concept Art from filmmaker  Alejandro Jodorowsky’s abandoned adaptation of Frank Herbert’s political, mythological  science-fiction fantasy novel, “DUNE” in the early-mid 1970s.

A number of notable artist’s, each with their own unique, varyingly popular style, were assembled to work on the bizarre vision of the project, each assigned a different world or different technologies to design.

Primary artists attached to this first attempt at making “DUNE” include those responsible for the work featured above….

H.R. Giger - - the corrupt, gluttonous and sadistic Harkonnen corporate  family and their holdings as well as the monstrous sandworts of the titular desert planet

Ron Cobb - - the orni’thopters used for air transport as well as other highly  engineered sets and props

Chris Foss - - various spacecraft and architecture

Jean Giraud, or “Moebius” - - characters and costumes

(After the DUNE film folded, apparently  before a single shot was filmed, all 4 artists would work on Ridley Scott’s 1979 heavily designed science-fiction/ horror masterpiece, “A L I E N.”

my contribution to the New Music Genres:

  1. music for fistfighting in a parkade
  2. quarter-life-crisis ballads emanating from a nearby warehouse
  3. music for tunnel-visioning into a project so intensely you forget to eat or drink or blink
  4. they’re not sorrowful lyrics if you yell em real loud

Who do you think is more powerful, mob or saiki?

here is a quick tally of things mob and saiki have done.

  • destroyed a school, pieced it back together
  • fought ~10 ultra strong claw espers at once
  • fought toichirou while levitating an entire skyscraper, won (sort of)
    • just remembered that he was able to pull up a lot of buildings from the city to try and crush toichirou with them, then lobbied the buildings down toward the ground like a giant meteor
    • for reference, your average skyscraper is about 222,500 tons, or 2.0 x 10^8 kg. and mob lifted up like 20 of those things at once. thats a lot of energy. if they were 1000 meters in the air, that would be about 2.0 x 10^12 joules per skyscraper, which is the amount of energy contained in the fuel of two boeing 747s at max fuel capacity. lifting 20 skyscrapers would be about half the energy yielded by the nuclear bomb at hiroshima
  • survived the explosion of toichirou’s 20yrs’ worth of energy, at point blank range. even if he did channel it through the broccoli seeds, thats pretty impressive
  • wiped out mogami’s entire host of evil spirits in one go (well, it was ???%’s power, but let’s consider ???% as the extent of mob’s power here.)

  • has canonically “erased” a small nation with no apparent effort
  • destroyed a small island without even breaking a sweat
  • at around age 11 could lift a skyscraper with ease (specifically, could lift roppongi hills, which is 54 stories and very large). so yes: he can expend at least 2.0 x 10^12 joules without even trying. saiki’s 17 now. his powers have grown since then. so i mean. just by that standard, saiki is already more powerful than mob
  • with one limiter removed, he dispersed a giant typhoon in just a few minutes, and carried an entire airplane to its destination
  • also with one limiter removed (by accident – not on purpose): a gentle poke could launch a fully grown bear into the sky, taking a normal step literally shattered the ground under him, and leaning against a wall would make the wall crumble
    • his telepathy range increased from a radius of 200m to a radius of the entire earth’s diameter; therefore his effective area of telepathy increased by a factor of ( π * (6.3x10^6m)^2)/( π * (200)^2) = 1.01 x 10^9
    • his ability to turn back time on an object increased from 1 day to 7 years, meaning its strength increased by a factor of 2555
    • also: when saiki walks, he applies ~520N force to the ground just due to his weight. lets give one foot a generous area of 21cm x 11cm (roughly), which is .0231 m^2. so saiki applies a pressure of 2.25 x 10^4 Pa when he walks, approximately. it takes about 11,000,000 Pa to break a concrete pillar, so when saiki caused the ground under him to shatter, the pressure he applied would have had to increase by a factor of 489. the ground he was walking on might have been dirt though so this is just a rough estimate.
    • my point is, with one limiter removed, most of saiki’s powers grow by a factor between 400 and 1 billion. which is a lot, no matter how you look at it. if that’s saiki with one limiter removed, imagine how powerful he is with both limiters removed. he’s stupidly powerful.
  • and that’s not even getting into his claim that he could destroy the world in three days without too much effort. saiki has already turned back time on the entire world by a whole year, four times at least, so his claim isn’t… without basis. AND BASED OFF THE PANEL, i think saiki is saying that he could destroy humanity in three days…. with both his limiters on.
  • and in addition to just sheer strength: saiki has pyrokinesis, cryokinesis, x ray vision, astral projection, psychometry, shapeshifting… he has mind control. he changed the entire human population’s dna on accident. saiki is an actual power department store, it’s unfair

i love mob but this isn’t much of a contest, i think saiki would be able to destroy humanity much more quickly and easily than mob. it was even a viable option for him when he was two, apparently!

anyways, to conclude:

Hey. I like your scarletvision theories. Have you seen the theory (based on the new sv spoilers) of ComicBookCast2 on YouTube? What do you think of it?

I hadn’t seen it! I just watched it. Here’s the video for those curious.

The gist of what the YouTuber is saying is that he suspects Vision is fully human, and possibly this even occurs at the end of both movies, and some sort of wish was granted to turn him fully human.

I can understand why he thinks so, but I think the stronger evidence points to Vision simply projecting a disguise. It should be noted that Christopher Markus (writer of Infinity War and Civil War), says that Vision projects his clothing. He also says it’s made of his own skin, which seems a bit contradictory, but the point is–Vision can make himself look how he wants.

We also have footage of human Vision talking a walk with Wanda outside.

Wanda is wearing the same clothes and they’re right across the street from the bistro that she exits from when the battle we’ve seen with the mocap actors (assuredly Proxima Midnight and Corvus Glaive) fighting with Wanda and Vision, who is purple and has his Mind Stone.

I think all signs point to Vision donning a disguise. One thing, though, is that Wanda is wearing different clothes in the scene with the kiss, which implies that these are separate scenes (likely with the kiss occurring first).

My theory is the movie opens with them already together, either with Vision visiting her in Edinburgh or them living together, and the kiss is probably the first scene with them together, establishing this. The scene with the attack probably comes shortly after, and connects them with the action.
