The next day, Steve, Sam and Bucky continued discussing the battle strategy while Violet went out to get some groceries.
When she came back, she was a little taken off guard that Bucky was the only one to help her with the groceries. He wanted to make it up to her for scaring her and yelling at her. Not only that, but Sam told him earlier that morning,
“Today’s lesson is: show her you care. If she likes something, talk to her about it. Show her you care about things she likes. Not only that, but show you care about her as a person too.”
Bucky had nodded and thought of ways he could apply the lesson that day. Helping out with groceries seemed like a good way to start.
After they finished bringing in the groceries, Bucky continued the battle plans with Steve and Sam and Violet went outside to read a book (not the winter soldier one). Eventually Bucky was getting tired of arguing about a certain part of the plan and went to get some fresh air. He spotted Violet sitting on a lawn chair reading some book. She seemed thoroughly invested in it. He heard light music, which was probably from the radio next to her. “Show her you care.” Bucky repeated the lesson in his head. “Okay. I can do that. I think.”
He walked down the steps and approached Violet sitting on the lawn chair in the grassy field. She had on a pair of sunglasses, which she probably bought while she was out, and had her long legs crossed while she flipped a page of the book every couple of seconds.
“Hey,” Bucky said. Violet looked up from her book and gave Bucky a small smile. She lifted her sunglasses up and propped them on her head.
“Hey, what’s up?” She asked him.
“Not much. I was getting bored of battle strategies so I decided to get some air. What are you reading?” Bucky told her.
“Oh, just some book I picked up at the bookstore. It’s really good. Kinda cheesy, like princesses and kingdoms and stuff,” Violet shrugged as she closed it.
“But it’s still pretty good.”
“Sounds interesting. Tell me more,” Bucky pulled up a lawn chair and sat next to her. Violet put the book against Bucky’s chest.
“You can read it yourself if you wanna find out more,” she smirked at him. Bucky took the book and inspected the cover. Book covers had definitely gotten much more elaborate since the 40s.
Suddenly the radio said something excitedly in German, and Violet turned her head toward as the DJ said “Ed Sheeran”. Then, ‘Thinking Out Loud’ began playing. It was a sweet melody and Violet smiled at the beautiful sound filling her ears.
“Mmm, I love this song,” she said. Bucky looked up from the book and looked at her.
“I’ve never heard music like this before. But…it’s pretty nice,” Bucky told her.
“Of course it is! It’s Ed Sheeran,” Violet smiled at him. He liked one of her favorite artists now. Bucky on the other hand, furrowed his eyebrows in confusion. “Is that like a new genre? Things are definitely weird in this century,” he thought.
“What’s Ed Sheeran?” He asked her. Violet let out a small laugh. It was music to Bucky’s ears, more than this new song he liked.
“Ed Sheeran is the person singing, silly. He’s the artist.” Violet giggled. Bucky sighed and a smile appeared on his face.
“Of course. That makes more sense,” he shook his head in embarrassment. Violet stood up and stuck her hand out for Bucky to grab.
“Care to dance?” She asked him. Sam and Steve had come on of the apartment to see what Violet was laughing about.
“Uh, I don’t know how,” Bucky hesitated.
“Come on I’ll show you!” Violet pulled him out of the chair and away from the chairs. The grass tickled Violet’s bare legs as she ran with Bucky. The sunlight fell perfectly on her hair, and the dandelion fluff was sprinkled around her. She looked like a princess. Bucky gaped at her. She grabbed his hands and set them up for a waltz.
Bucky looked back at the apartment, hoping Sam or Steve would help him out, but they just smiled at him and gave him an encouraging thumbs up.
“Ready?” She asked. But before Bucky could answer, she started leading him around the field. She laughed when Bucky would try to spin her but failed or when he misstepped. She told him not to worry, they were just having fun. But Bucky was determined to actually learn and dance correctly. He knew he used to go dancing before HYDRA, so he must remember how to do certain moves, but he hasn’t been able to tap into that part of his memory.
After a couple more songs, he finally figured out the pattern and decided to take the lead. Violet was surprised when she went to go one direction, but Bucky pulled her another way.
He lead her gracefully around the field area, spinning her occasionally. At one point, she put her head on his chest. Bucky looked up but then diverted his gaze to Steve and Sam and smiled. They gave him a “You’re doing great!” thumbs ups and smiled widely. After some time, the song started to come to an end, so Bucky slowed down the dancing. Bucky brought them to a stop as the song ended. Violet curtsied.
“That was fun,” she beamed at him.
“Yeah it was. It’s been so long since I’ve danced,” Bucky rubbed his arm.
“You’re good at it. You should do it more often,” Violet told him.
“Only if you’re my partner,” Bucky blurted out. Violet started blushing furiously and hid her face in her shoulder. She smiled at what he said. Meanwhile Bucky face palmed himself.
“I’m so sorry…” he started.
“No no it’s okay! I thought it was sweet,” Violet told him.
“Can I show you something?” He suddenly said. Violet quirked an eyebrow in confusion.
“Okay, sure,” she said.
“Close your eyes,” Bucky told her.
“Why?” She put her hands on her hips.
“Because it’s a surprise,” he told her. Violet rolled her eyes and closed them.
“Okay hold on,” Bucky said. He ran and got the red book from the condo and came back. Sam and Steve watched all of this confusion. What was Bucky planning?
Violet felt Bucky grab her hand and start walking. She followed him and followed him until he told her to stop.
“Can I open up my eyes now?” She asked him.
“Wait, wait…okay. You can open them,” Bucky told her. Violet opened her eyes and her jaw dropped. He had led her to a beautiful part of the country side near a stream, with flowers everywhere and trees surrounding them. It was beautiful.
“This is incredible!” Violet gasped. She turned around, taking in the gorgeous scenery. Bucky stood with the book behind his back and waited for her to face him. As she finished her 360, her eyes landed on Bucky.
“How did you find this?” She asked him.
“Couldn’t sleep last night. I came out here and wandered out to this place. I thought you’d like it,” he explained.
“I don’t like it…,” Violet told him. Bucky felt his heart drop.
“I LOVE it!” Violet continued. Bucky looked up at her and smiled.
“I also wanted to…ahem…give you this…” Bucky brought the book out from his back. The red one. Violet was sort of expecting flowers or food, but the book? She was pleasantly shocked.
“I thought–” she started.
“You seem genuinely interested in it. I trust you, so I want you to have it,” he handed it over to her.
“Uh…I don’t think I can read it since I don’t understand Russian,” she gave a nervous laugh as she flipped it open. Bucky got an idea.
“I can teach you,” he said before he actually thought about it. Violet looked at him with a “Really? Are you kidding me?” expression.
“If you want,” Bucky scratched the back of his head. Violet’s expression dissolved into a blank one.
“I would love to, but are you sure?” Violet asked.
“If I wasn’t then I wouldn’t have offered,” Bucky pointed out. Violet shrugged.
“Touché,” she said. She sat down on the rock they stood on and flipped to a certain page. Bucky sat down next to her.
“Okay, what’s this word?” She pointed a random word on the page.
“Mesyats,” he said simply. There was something about Bucky flawlessly speaking Russian that Violet just found very attractive.
“Mesi-ahts,” she repeated slowly. “Say it again,” she commanded.
“Mesyats,” he said it again.
“What does it mean?” Violet asked.
“Month,” Bucky replied.
“Mesyats,” she breathed out. She said it perfectly. Bucky chuckled as she looked so blown away by a simple word in Russian.
From behind them, Sam and Steve watched as the two sat and read the book together. Once in awhile Violet would burst out laughing, and Bucky would just smile at her.
“Show Her You Care? Check,” Sam nodded his head.
“I’ve never seen him smile like that before,” Steve folded his arms as a small smile lingered on his lips.
“It’s called love, buddy. Look it up,” Sam patted Steve’s back. Sam walked away and Steve followed him.
Bucky and Violet spent the whole afternoon in their little nook together, smiling and laughing without a care in the world.
A/n I literally did like 3 different spin-off scenes from BatB here, but EH it works! I really enjoyed writing this one! Sam is obviously like Lumiere and Steve is kinda like Cogsworth, but I sense some Mrs. Potts too. Thank you all for reading!! Stay tuned!
if she had let me stroke her auburn hair
weave flowers throughout the river of her auburn hair
and make a halo for her face in daisies,
tulips, daffodils, if her smile had been a daisy
if Ophelia laughed
and let the roses of her cheeks
outshine my heart’s bouquet,
if Ophelia and I lay by the river
on soft dewy grass, if I held her hand
and kissed her fingertips with more reverence
than man could ever give to god or king
then the river would hold no fear
and flowers would never wilt
the only thing to drown
would be me in the sound of her heart
through the soft silk of her gown
beating in my ear and overwhelming
my senses with the lushness of violet petals
the river would not rush around her
but the river in my veins would burst
and quicken for the two perfect petals of her lips
curved forever into an easy smile
if Ophelia loved a woman,
and if that woman had been me,
then I’d have loved Ophelia,
and our hearts would be at peace
Dandelion Honey Tea
Notions: ½ cup dried dandelion blossoms, 1 tablespoon dried rose petals, 1 tablespoon dried jasmine, 1 tablespoon dried wild violet, 1 tablespoon dried marigold blooms.
I was feeling floral today, so this is a flower shower! I based it in dried dandelion blooms, which smelled wonderfully like honey when I opened the jar. Then I added a tablespoon each of dried rose petals, jasmine petals, wild violet, and marigold blossoms.
This is so easy to blend, just throughly incorporate in a large non porous bowl and allow all those sweet flavors to meld together. The flavor has notes of honey from the dandelions and the other flowers add hints of sweetness and brightness.
This tea brews best at 208 degrees for 6 minutes.

Many flower blossoms are quite wonderful tasting. But before you start randomly eating flowers from your garden, be sure you know what you are doing-some are deadly poisonous. And of course, if you use pesticides or herbicides in your garden, you might want to avoid eating those blooms. Caveats aside, flowers do wonderfully in salads, as a garnish for chilled soup or serving platters, sprinkled on ice cream, atop spring cocktails, or to decorate cakes.
The following is a list of some of the edible beauties:

How to make candied flowers:
These delectable treats are easy to create; use them on top of ice cream or cakes. Pick the flowers fresh in the early morning.
A generous handful of violet blossoms, rose petals, or any flower from the edible flowers list 1 or 2 egg whites, depending on how many flowers you use Superfine sugar
1. Gently wash flowers and pat dry with a clean towel. 2. Beat the egg whites in a small bowl. Pour the sugar into another bowl. Carefully dip the flowers into the egg whites, then roll in sugar, being sure to cover all sides. 3. Set flowers on a cookie sheet and allow to dry in a warm place. Store in a flat container with waxed paper between the layers. These will last for several days.
